When I first heard last year that F.E.A.R. 3 was on the making I couldn't wait for its release. I got the game the day it came out. That day I didn't do anything but play F.E.A.R. 3 the whole day (it was my day off from work). This game has non-stop action. The cover system is really cool, reminded me of Killzone 2's cover system and also how the guns on the floor shine so you can spot them. I had a lot of fun playing the campaign. But the one thing I felt it missed was the "horror" part. There were some parts of the game were I felt jumpy, but not scared like the first F.E.A.R. game made me feel. I wish the game would've been scarier to the point were I would have to sleep with the lights on. Other than that, awesome game.

I have to admit I'm a bit torn about the 3rd installment of FEAR, and I'm a big fan of the first two. I've just finished the single-player campaign as Point Man, but most of what I have to say will probably apply to co-op. I'll admit that I haven't played through as Fattel yet, so I concede that I have no idea what the game is like if you play as him.On one hand, they've polished the gameplay to perfection. Character movement is smooth and feels natural, and target assist helps you spray bullets a little less than the first two required. The armored suit parts are fun (if a little short) and as with FEAR 2, help break up the pace. Creeping around enclosed environments is fun, but a good old fashioned blow everything up mech segment is a nice way to give yourself the occasional reset.
On the other hand, it's just not that interesting. You end up back in the city that got the "physic nuke" from Alma in the last game, and it's crawling with crazed people who've been whacked in the head by the Alma bomb. Sadly, unlike the interesting and weird soldiers and warped entities from the first two, the people in this one basically act like rabid zombies. So, most of the game feels like a mix of gunfights against conventional soldiers and a rabid axe-wielding zombie hunt. The weapons are less interesting, too, although the duel-wield, full-auto pistols are way cool and better than similar guns in any other game.
The scare factor goes way down, although unlike some critics, the Alma-pops-up-outta-nowhere-then-vanishes moments are always fun to me. But that's it. This isn't really creepy the way the first two were. And the enemy AI is almost TOO good. The level of difficulty is ramped way up, and you get mobbed by soldiers a lot more than before. Whereas in the first two you might find yourself facing a dozen enemies, it was almost always in an enclosed space like a large office or cellar, with plenty of opportunity to pick them off. Now they throw a dozen soldiers at you within an open plaza or yard that, yes, has plenty of cover opportunities; but you get flanked so quickly and often that cover doesn't do much good. Or, along with a dozen soldiers coming from all directions, they throw an enemy mech at you along with them. A shame, really, because the new cover system is simple and works well. And this game badly suffers from "alternate universe grenade syndrome." Yours suck, yet the constant hailstorm of enemy grenades (and they throw a LOT of grenades in this) are near-fatal.
To sum up, FEAR 3 plays like a missed opportunity. They did polish what needed polishing, but the stuff that made you say out loud "oh, cool!", like the ash people in the street in FEAR 2 that puffed away when you touched them, is completely absent. FEAR has become a by-the-numbers shooter with a good story and controls, but nothing worthwhile to add for atmosphere or enemies. And, for a FPS junkie like myself who's played dozens, it's, well, kinda hard! And I'm playing on "recruit." Barely surviving an overly-frantic gunfight really isn't as fun or satisfying as more moderately paced action. You finish, the screen a red haze, and just feel relieved that you made it, not satisfied that you did a good job.
I knew FEAR 2 would be hard to follow up, and I'm sad to say they failed to live up to it.I have to admit it's not as scary as fear 2 but it will leave your heart pumping, one thing for sure is that this game has nonstop action.better graphics and more dynamic gameplay.the only thing I don't like is that its short.has like 8 chapters while fear 2 had like 15.but overall this game kicks ass

I have not played with on one player mode. I bought this because of the great reviews for split screen multiplayer. This game is so much fun. Highly recommended and AWESOME gameplay!!The F.E.A.R. series is just great. For an industry that is flooded with games and overused plots, this one really stands on its own as unique and well thought out. Each of the three installments are quite different in game play but continue the same great story.F.3.A.R. introduces many new aspects to the series. While the first installment, made by Sierra, was more horror driven and tasked with the need to introduce all of the characters that are built upon in the second and third titles, WB has changed the feel to more of a quick run-and-gun than slower horror-driven atmospheres. As the cover suggests, the two brothers are at the forefront of this game. The first time through single player you take control of Point Man. Upon successful completion of each interval the player unlocks the ability to replay as Fettel, the "evil" brother. This adds to the replay factor of the game. Also, along this line, the game introduces co-op multiplayer for the first time. While I have yet to try this it seems like a great way to extend the life of the game.
F.3.A.R. also introduces a slight bit of an RPG feel with the ability to level your character up. Throughout the game you will realize that different challenges will unlock points for your character. These points add up to new player levels and provide such benefits as extended slo-mo time, more life, the ability to carry more grenades, etc. This is nice, but really locks this game in as more of a FPS than a horror title.
This game is exceptionally gory. If you've played either of the first two games this should come as no surprise, but if you haven't be prepared. While there is an option to reduce the violence/gore, I haven't tried it and am unable to say how much is really censored.
In the end, this game is phenomenal. The story is well developed, the visuals are stunning, and the new features are worth checking out. Coupled with Amazon's great price this is a no-brainer for all dark FPS fans.
