I'm not going to waste my time with a long review. I just want to warn you not to waste your money on this boring, cliche, low grade game.

-Graphics: For a brand new game I expect up to date graphics and rendering. This game has chunky graphics and background and the lighting is terrible. They seem to of spent all of their development funds on rendering strippers and hookers. That's cool, boobs are great, but that's the only thing moderately entertaining about this game..

-Gameplay: I got bored with this game in about 10min. Terrible over-the-top voice acting "chingale ese, vato, homes!". Weapons are horribly rendered and this game is a shooting game, have no doubt. When you arn't just emptying your mag in the direction of bad guy the in between scenes involve just chasing a white dot waypoint. When you aim down your sight your target is obscured to the point that you can't see him unless he's right in front of you. It pretty much just came down to running up to the bad guy and empty a mag, they die, you're fine. Leveling up is dependant on your ability to thieve things without your partners seeing. That proved problematic as you pretty much have to be in a firefight to pull it off otherwise one of them will spawn next to you and catch you red handed. I just killed 20 bad guys for no experience, but I can't pickup a critical item to level up because I keep getting caught.

-Verdict: If you want to waste you money like I did, help yourself. This game is like a pimped out used car that falls apart as soon as it's driven off the lot.

clearly, most reviewers of COJ: The Cartel think its a total stinker; it ain't great, that's for sure. However, I'd like to offer a couple of objective thoughts on the game that are slightly to the contrary.

It's not worth $40, not worth half that...but for what you can pick it up for now, its probably a justifiable purchase. It's a cliche' FPS in almost every sense, but it doesnt do FPS poorly, it just doesnt compare to the amazing line up of perfected FPS's on the market today like COD, Battlefield, etc. I played through as the DEA agent, but I like that (like Bound in Blood), you have the option to play through as another of the three characters, seeing the storyline from a different perspective, with different goals and motives. Big gripe about this: inability to go back to chapters to replay, securing more secret bonus items and trying out different courses of action (including the ending). Simply put, I'm not gonna play through the entire thing again, as the same character, to see the alternate end, but I wouldve played the last level.

Graphically,, it looks like early-PS3 caliber, choppy, but not horrid. In-car mechanics are bad, but one might say realistic when driving a Suburban in a high speed situation. Gun play is ok, not ground breaking, but its always satisfying to dual-wield Uzis, is it not? Music is good, a couple of solid Southern-Cali East LA rap tunes. Dialogue is a combination of dark and pulpy to insanely annoying, especially the other NPCs reactions to your actions. You'll hear the same quips over, and over, and over....

I'm not going to try to change anyone's mind about the game, but if you generally liked Bound in Blood, and enjoy a bad-cop story, dropping $15 for a new copy of this isnt a bad investment (half that used). If I'd have bought it at full retail, I'd probably been mad as well.

While I was amazed at how great the effects and animation of the games were it was toned down by the poor generic concept of the three playable characters in the game too. You had the standard old time veteran who seeks vengeance against the cartel for the death of someone dear to him, the cocky young agent who while a charismatic playboy hides a dark secret that could destroy the life he's built and would do anything to keep it a secret, finally we have the young tough female federal agent wants to show her superiors as well as her team that she can be as tough as any man no matter what anyone says. The story itself is pretty generic as well the same thing we've seen in games like Rainbow Six to Modern Warfare. The levels and assignments are entertaining though and again the graphics and areas are very good making playing through the levels still enjoyable. The controls are also very easy to use if you've played previous games like BattleField or Call Of Duty games so if you have these controls shouldn't bother you so much, the A.I. is also pretty decent for the most part but there are some areas where it's a joke. Like onetime I'm taking cover trying to take out some enemies when all of a sudden they stop and start walking left to right(Seriously) at first I thought something big was coming like a tank or helicopter or something, but after taking care of all the enemies I move on to the next area which shocked me. Still for what the price of the game is going for and the overall enjoyment of the game I still say it's worth a look for FPS players though the storyline might leave you a little irritated...

A little update on the sound quality of the game. While the music and voice acting are very well done sadly the short pauses of sound in the game which happen frequently really lower the game enjoyment as you feel more of a headache coming on then anything else. Case in point there's a level in the city as you're in a firefight but every three seconds the sound pauses as it's loading up apparently which becomes truly annoying, I do know that the problem isn't with the speakers or headset as I tried them both with the game with the same situation though when playing a few other games this problem didn't come up showing that it is apparently the games sound program. So while the games visual and effects are very good the sound problem really detracts from the enjoyments as you have to force yourself almost to play through a level hearing the sound pausing continually throughout the game.

Having religiously played all previous GH games, this game was an absolute must have being a big Aerosmith fan. I already completed the game on expert, so here is a brief review:

Difficulty to actually beat a song is quite a bit easier than GH3. However, it seems that achieving 5 stars is much more difficult this time around. You need to play a song near perfect in order to snag 5 stars.

Song list is great, but they left out some of my favorites (Cryin', Jaded, Dude Looks Like a Lady, Janie's Got a Gun). I really hope these are offered as downloads in the near future. Other songs I love (Don't Want to Miss a Thing) didn't make it, but this makes sense since I don't think they would translate good into this type of game.

Timing to hit the notes seems to be less forgiving. You really need to nail the notes spot on, whereas the previous GH games seemed to be more forgiving. Hammer-ons and pull-offs do feel about the same as GH3, though.

Overall this was no disappointment and will prove to entertain for many more hours. Looking forward to seeing what type of downloadable content becomes available!

Buyer beware on guitar hero products. Even though the product is supposed to have a 60 day warranty the company is not providing any warranty support. I purchased this product and the guitar doesn't work (no surprise as I see this on a lot of reviews). When I attempted to contact support at Activision they say they only support Guitar Hero World Tour warranty and direct you to RedOctane for support (310-255-2050). RedOctane only has a recorded message telling you that they won't provide warranty on guitars that do not work and you need to contact Activision at 800-229-6306 or 800-205-4713. Activision doesn't provide support for the guitar and tells you to contact RedOctane. I managed to get a LiveChat going with RedOctane at their website but as soon as I told them my guitar didn't work they disconnected the chat and didn't answer my question. I would not purchase any old Guitar Hero products as there is no warranty support and the guitars are known to have lots of problems. The game itself is no where near as good as Rock Band and that equipment is better quality.

Disclaimers:

1. I love both Guitar Hero and Rock Band (so I'm not going to try to trash either game series).

2. I'm not great playing any of the guitar games, and can barely survive the last songs on Medium difficulty.

Since this review is for the bundle, I'll first concentrate on the bundle, then focus on the game later, which I'm sure you'll see lots of reviews for at Guitar Hero Aerosmith. In fact, I'll probably write a review myself there, concentrating on the game.

As a great fan of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series, getting GH-Aerosmith was a given. The question for me was the following:

Get the game, or get the bundle? Get it for the PS2, PS3, or Wii? (I only have an Xbox, not a 360, so at least that that option wasn't considered by me). With 6 possible choices, I had to go look at all the different versions. Here's my synopsis:

PS3 (and Xbox 360) bundle comes with the nifty Aerosmith faceplate and stickers and booklet.

PS2 only comes with the stickers and booklet.

Wii bundle comes with the nifty Aerosmith faceplate and stickers and booklet, and the Wii remote acts as an extra speaker for special Wii-only effects (not sure if it also vibrates on cue).

Hmm, so based on the bundle, for me, the Wii has an advantage in terms of abilities. However, I don't think I like taking my Wiimote out of its sleeve and sticking it in the controller. Therefore, it's about a tie between the PS3 and Wii versions, and the PS2 version is inferior, since you don't get the better guitar and it doesn't have the extra faceplate.

Now, the game itself.

PS3 and Xbox 360: You can buy and download extra tracks (not sure if they'll ever release any, but they have the potential).

PS2: Not available.

Wii: Oops, forgot to check out if that option's available!

Graphics are also better on the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, of course. And since there are full video clips of Aerosmith members interview style, seeing it on the better graphics machines are nice.

I considered getting a new guitar, since I have 3 PS2 GH guitars and 2 PS3 RB guitars, as well as the games GH, GH2, GH2-greatest hits, and GH3 on PS2, and RB on PS3. I did try using the PS3 RB guitar, just HOPING it may be compatible with GH-A, and I can confirm that it is NOT compatible. In fact, the guitar that comes with this bundle is identical to the one from the GH3 bundles, the Les Paul wireless guitar (which is a good thing).

Overall, definitely recommended. As a bundle, it's definitely worth it, especially if you need or want an extra guitar (and I did).

While trying not to be completely biased, as Aerosmith is my all time favorite band. Feeling that all the other Guitar Hero games could have been better, this one kills them all. The graphics are much, much, much better. The songs selection is better not only because it is Aerosmith but because it is actually them playing the songs, some live and some studio cuts. Also many of the songs from other bands are the originals not covers like on previous Guitar Hero games.

As a fan who has seen the band live several time I must say they are captured here really well. Perry, Whitford, and Hamiltons guitars are exact replicas which is killer.

The story line follows the bands rise, as well as your own. the wireless guitar is cool, as it the Aero face plate. What is also cool is when Aerosmith records their new album they will release each track as it is completed for download for the game. Way worth the money!

Over the last 10 years, the video gaming industry has tended toward releasing ever more gussied up versions of Doom. Typical selling points have been realistic gore and hardware pushing eye candy. Mini Ninjas is a great break from that world!

The back story in Mini Ninjas is a simple one. You are among the last of the ninjas left and you must find out what has happened to the others. It is a bit predictable, right down to an "evil master", but the simplicity actually helps. The world of Mini Ninjas is basically Kung Fu Panda meets Lord of the Rings. You travel through a fantasy land filled with forests, rivers, mountains and valleys, but also peasants, villages, dojos, and temples. There is a bit of mild humor as well as a tad bit of stereo typing ancient East Asian (Japanese) culture, but not so much as to offend. The graphics are well done and in a 3d animation style reminiscent of Pixar. The story and play evolve just enough to keep a general player interested without creating confusion. In a move of genius, the IO Interactive managed to temper any violence in the game with back story enemies a player defeats do not "die", but rather revert back to their innocent animal selves right in front of the player. This greatly broadens the age group the game is appropriate for and may also be appealing to the older gamer who is simply looking for some clean fun. There are trophies and optional side quests some rather difficult. The control configuration is easy to pick up and intuitive if you are playing on a console you are familiar with.

That said, there are a few blemishes. The MSRP for PS3 and Xbox is a tad higher than deserved, however, the street price (~10 USD less at the time of writing) is justified. This is also not a game for speed players. It's possible to race through the levels (mostly) and ignore the game play. If you are that kind of player, you will be bored inside of 15 minutes. Maybe most detrimental blemish is that this is a single player ONLY game. That's a shame really, since the game begs for two person play.

Last word is that Mini Ninjas is a great representation of its genre and can be enjoyed by everyone from ages 8 to 80 despite the ESRB 10+ rating. This is a solid 4 Star game.

Review is based on 5 hours of play (multiple sessions) on a PS3, but there is no reason for the Wii or Xbox to play differently. In fact, this game fits the Wii platform perfectly.

I admit I was at first turned-off by the somewhat childish cartoon graphic style this game employs, but thankfully I was interested enough to download the demo of this game, and after playing it only a few minutes, I knew I had to buy it. After having bought it and played it through, I can not find anything significantly wrong with this game, so I'm going to call it essentially perfect.

Pros:

It has a perfect control scheme, which I don't really see anyone else talk about, but which I consider very important, so let me describe it briefly:

Left stick controls your character, as in many other games

Right stick controls the camera, which I really like, and has option to invert, which is even better

Square is normal attack

Triangle is special attack

X is jump

Circle is sprint which consumes energy to run fast

L1 brings up a quick character selection menu

Holding L2 makes the character sneak

R1 brings up a quick item/spell menu, that selects which item/spell is activated by pressing...

R2 activates selected item/spell (can include shuriken, spells, potions, bombs)

R3 toggles the hat-boat item

I've been playing games since 1980 on the Commodore Vic-20, and my favorite games of the past have been Mario and Maximo games, but this game is easily as good as those games, in my opinion. It has a perfectly balanced play control scheme, well balanced difficulty that is fun, but not too hard to frustrate the player, with the default game difficulty being perfect for non-gamers, and the Hard mode preferred for players with more experience under their belts (though even that mode isn't too hard).

The most similar game this should be compared to is the Ninja Gaiden games, but this game has two significant differences with those games:

1) This game is much easier, so no experienced gamers banging their heads against the wall trying to kill frustratingly hard bosses.

2) This game is far more innocent in presentation, with no real killing involved, and defeating opponents merely "frees" animals, with no blood or guts or brutality or anything normally considered offensive to some. This makes the game much more enjoyable to children and those with an appreciation for good, clean fun.

One other game I'd like to compare this to is God of War, which has some very noticeable contrasts as well:

1) As with Ninja Gaiden, God of War games are a whole lot more violent and potentially offensive (with nudity and lots of brutality) content than Mini Ninjas.

2) God of War has a large number of complex moves available that make it hard to master, but you can't do some very basic things, like move your camera! Mini Ninjas has a very good control scheme (as described above) and most importantly, does not define itself by a near-endless supply of the same many-hits-to-kill enemies separated by a few head-bangingly hard hand-eye-coordination test puzzles, but rather distinguishes itself by brilliant level design and player experience [one mild exception to this is a rather annoying single level where you control a snowball going down a mountain, but it's not enough of a problem to take much away from the rest of the game]. I just enjoyed playing this game about 1000x more than playing God of War.

Cons:

No game is truly perfect, so, yes, there are a few minor gripes I have with this game, which I would change if I could:

1) I really dislike Quick-Time events (time-limited button-press prompts), and I wish the designers had stayed clear of them.

2) This game is so perfect for being family-friendly, that it would have been really, really nice to allow for a two-player co-op option like the Lego series of games are making popular now, which would let older gamers play with their own kids.

3) This game could have done just fine without the downhill snowball level...

Conclusion:

I have been waiting for a game like this to come out on the PS3 for years, and it is a delightful departure from the Assassin's Creed, Ninja Gaiden, and God of War type of game that is currently filling the landscape of A+ titles. Finally a perfectly balanced action game for players that don't necessarily want to be frustrated endlessly or to push the envelope of what is socially acceptable behavior.

But don't take my word for it, by any means, just download the demo and judge for yourself. But definitely don't pass by at least playing the demo on this game, it is a masterpiece and should not be missed!

Bought this game for the kids & hubby after they rented it for a few days. They are all enjoying it. My 5 yr old likes it so much he kept asking to play it but with limited screen time it took him a little while to work his way through the game. I don't personally play but I watch and I also think the way the Samari say Mini Nijas is funny. :) Enjoyable game. Not too complicated but hard enough to teach a lesson to the kids to keep trying something even if they aren't good at it.

Second in series from Aksys games, this is actually a prequel to 2010's Agarest War, though no knowledge of the first is needed. That game had a rather troubled existence and bungled release depending on which console you used or were willing to pay for imports. This time we're all on the same page at least, and it's good to see that Aksys pieced everything together properly. This 3-star review is from a feeling of being completely underwhelmed, and in no way do I mean to imply that as a fan of things in-genre that I regret my purchase or didn't like it/have fun.

The premise here is, for all intents and purposes, the same as the original-a rather epic (in length) adventuring campaign with a sizable cast of quirky characters and villains that spans generational gaps. This is achieved via the offspring of the original protagonist, and you get some ability to mold through your actions. Good versus evil, light versus dark, all that good stuff. Character offspring is the "hook" to the Agarest series, where decisions made in dialogue raise and lower virtual affection levels of heroines in a way akin to a stereotypical Japanese dating sim. Awkward for some players, certainly, but there are no 'right' or 'wrong' answers. The story progression is mostly the same regardless (see below), so just enjoy.

The other major selling point on the series, for better or worse, is a rather intricate battlefield system that will certainly cause some head-scratching amongst new players. The basic JRPG phase/turn system is mixed up with action points and varying action combinations. Team tactics play a large roll and using combined skills of all types add extra damage that's an absolute must as things get harder. There are ~150 skill combinations in total and over about a hundred abilities to learn, where every character can use a different set. It requires thought, forces the player to think ahead, and unless in a situation where facing very weak foes at high levels there's no one simple way to complete a fight... so no real slacking off allowed.

The learning curve isn't bad on standard difficulty, but that's partially because of the massively high number of total battles. There's the oft-inept "auto" battle mode, which is supposed to give the player a break on the easier stuff, but it's impossible to properly express the stupidity of the AI and it rarely saves any time and/or effort.

Here stands a large point of contention for me at least-even though the hope is for combat to never really be entirely the same and for players to use all sorts of fancy attacks, it all feels so, so familiar as you move ahead. Drone-like, in fact. As you'll be fighting hundreds of times against what are essentially the same 20 types of baddie, it can become very draining. The sensation of "can we get on with the story now?" can become overwhelming at times. For players of the first, the combat system is almost completely unchanged and has only a few minor tweaks. Nothing particularly needed a "fix", so in that regard everything still works fine.

A minor reward from all the combat is that story scenes are fairly lengthy, are all fully-voiced (though in Japanese only), the narrative at least somewhat compelling (by video game standards), and characters develop some actual personality. The overhead world view is a rather nostalgic 2D wandering, and the moving character models in 'cutscenes' are still a major throwback to the 16-bit days and I find it rather endearing, even if astonishingly outdated and limited by the studio's production budget.

Another now-heavily recycled piece of the game is the equipment and upgrade/synthesis type. It's tried and true over several games now, and though there's nothing wrong with the user-friendly upgrading system, some kind of innovation or variation would be desperately welcomed. The interface is bland, items are notoriously hard to find materials for, and names of weapons and armor are a near copy-paste from the past.

Add things up and the end result is almost exactly that of the first Agarest with zero fundamental changes, and only a handful of surface adjustments. The sheer length of the game exasperates this all, though it does make the game a pretty good value assuming at least one play of 40+ hours. I'm not per say disappointed, but I may have hoped for more. Zero is by no means a "bad" game for RPG or strategy buffs, but it lacks a spark of something that would help to call it truly "special".

For anyone that enjoyed the first, there's no specific reason why they should stay away from Zero, at least if they know to expect virtually the same game with new scripts and fonts. For new players, it's a strategy challenge and a game where one full run through the storyline could feel rewarding, but split up your sessions. Going back to the "dating" bit from before-though it's not like you can't finish the game if you choose certain options, just playing on normal mode without much extra thought gives, well, a really lousy ending, and the assumption is that you'll start a NewGame+ on "Extra" (difficult) for the more eventful stuff. This isn't new for JRPGs, but you're left flying blind here most of the time.

I basically love everything by this developer including any recycled mechanics and the implication that you will need to replay the game to get the true end. I prefer cross edge honestly, but overall this is a solid game. I am dissapointed that they did not add more from the first game, and the battle system gets repetitive if you overlevel. The review below goes into more detail, but it is a solid srpg that focuses on extending attacks by placing party members in certain poximate patterns. If you want, you can subtract a star for admitted fan effect.

This is a great and very long strategy RPG with turn based combat. The enemies are varied, well, at least their colors look different for the various levels of the same monster, and that is nice. Battles also use different types of enemies, making the battles a little different each time. In combat, the first phase is move and the second is battle. However, characters and monsters will move in the second phase to use their abilities.

POINT SYSTEMS

XP = Experience points needed to level up, fight battles to get them based on the monsters

AP = Action points for movement and skills, character specific and can be enhanced with items

EP = Enhancement points used to upgrade equipment, given from battles based on the monster

TP = Tech points needed to purchase items from the Adventurer's Guild, given from battles based on maximum hit count

PP = Party points may be used to train any character's stats, given mainly from events

S-slots = Special slots on armor and enhancement items, convert other items to get these bonuses, examples STR+12, AGI+17. These do not affect level up.

Learning how best to use Extended Areas is crucial as this allows many characters, up to six, to gang up on an enemy. Also important is getting Overkills in order to get the best drops from the enemies. The Tutorials do well to explain these things but it is up to the player to become proficient with them.

Character development is a big part of the game. I like performing character development. I usually train Vitality for about 10 levels on all characters to increase their Health per level. Using Party Points, PP, helps in this regard. I concentrate on about six characters. Eventually all characters need to be levelled, however.

Creating a character is somewhat confusing. You choose five soul cards with two souls per card and a class (Warrior, Battle Mage, Sorcerer). You also choose your attack types. For those, I always go with Power-Power Light-Extra. The last two skills will not become available until level 45 when characters make a class upgrade.

Some people create a really great 1st Generation character only to find their 2nd Generation character is cruddy. Here are some insights on how this works:

Choosing Soul Cards at the beginning of the game will give the character 10 souls. Class choice adds 15 more souls, and special Event choices during the game will add a few more souls. Then, choice of bride will mix things up and give a 2nd Generation character. However, you get what you get, there area no soul card choices for 2nd Generation (or 3rd). If you choose the following cards you will get a great 1st Generation Battle Mage: 5, 24, 2, 19, 8. This will give the following stats and rankings: STR 16-B, VIT 10-A, AGI 16-B, INT 16-A, LUK 20-A, AP 17, MOV 4, weapon Sword. This will create a great 1st Generation character HOWEVER it will make a HORRIBLE 2nd Generation character!!! That is because this character has too many Dagger, Spear, Knuckle and other junky weapons (unless you like knuckle or dagger) and will also give horrible stats and rankings in STR and VIT no matter who you marry for 2nd Generation.

Instead, go with this: Cards 1, 5, 12, 21, 23, stats and rankings = STR 13-A, VIT 13-A, AGI 13-C, INT 11-C, LUK 13-B, AP 17, MOV 3, weapon Sword, as well as lots of Sword souls. The lower AGI can be overcome just by training. If you marry a certain warrior in 1st Generation, your 2nd Generation character will have S-S in STR-VIT and use Sword! The other stat areas are not too bad, either. Picking up another Gun, Dagger or Spear helps AGI, as well. Having a 4 MOV on the main character is a luxury not often needed. The AP is still 17, and that is nice! Also, equipment upgrades make more of an impact on attack, magic attack, and defense. Characters also get AP from equipment upgrades.

Training your stat areas is important in the long run, but in the short run Item Upgrades are far more useful. A warrior should not be training INT, anyway! As for Sorcerer, I was not able to make a 1st Generation Sorcerer that can use Staff, you get Scythe, instead. However, marrying the Mage girl, as a Sorcerer, will give a Mage for 2nd Generation, either with Staff or even Sword & Staff.

The game dialogue is in Japanese, but there are English translation dialogue boxes to read for the events. Frankly, I did not mind the language, I don't know Japanese, but it was no big deal to me.

Record of Agarest War Zero is a lot of fun. The game is at least 80% battles. I really liked this game. Oh, and there are LOTS of Items to be had!!! This is a good game.

My son wanted this for his birthday this year so when he got an amazon gift card he used the money to purchase this game. As far as I know he enjoys it enough to keep playing it and it has been at least six months. I can not speak to how easy or interesting the game is myself because I have not watched him play it. He is 20 and so I do not have to monitor his games and movies any more like I would a child. Best I can do is say that he seems to like it a lot and he enjoys the RP type games that are very involved that take you many days/weeks to play out with a lot of details. I guess it was mostly my fault. I assumed that since it was for a DualShock control, I could use the controls on the wheel and the wheel would steer. I was very wrong. You still have to use the direction buttons on the controller which is inserted into the wheel. Not easy, but not out much money.

This is a pretty nice controller, bigger than the standard controllers and better for your hands overall. Its functionality is nice and it plays smooth. The glow feature is nice and the 3 AAA batteries powering it last a long time (about three weeks). One problem is it's wireless but it doesn't use the system's Bluetooth, so one of your USB ports has to have a transmitter plugged into it when you use it. Also, the controller starts to wear after about two months mine being a bad connection with the R2 button because of how much it's used on PS3 games. Because it's not a Bluetooth controller, it does not have any SixAxis capability. It's a good controller while it lasts, but I've switched back to the DualShock after getting sick of having to hammer the R2 button with my finger every time.

This controller doesn't automatically connect to its USB receiver, so every time you want to use it, you have to go to the console and push a button on the receiver, then push another button on the controller to get them to pair. And it doesn't necessarily work the first time. Plus there's no way to attach the receiver to the controller, so it's easy for them to get separated / the receiver stick to get misplaced.

Once it's connected, it works fine, but it's not worth the trouble.

It stopped working after a few weeks. One of the buttons came loose. But it did work other wise. My sone took it apart and was able to fix it. The water is in it's own bubble so it did not spill. It works now, but if you don't have someone who can fix stuff you might have to send it away to be fixed.

This controller is great! The "glowing" lava inside is cool looking, and it can be turned off to save battery power. It works very well in games, and the turbo function has saved our poor fingers & thumbs from button-mashing madness. We use it exclusively for Dungeon Defenders and Dungeon Hunters. But! For games that require fine control, such as Call of Duty or similar 1st Person Shooters, the controllers are not as precise as the Sony controllers. For those games that require precision, these can be frustrating. For games that require button-mashing, they are a God-Send!

I bought this game because I had played the previous versions of Ninja Gaiden in other old platforms, and, surprisingly, this was much less expensive than I expected.

This is a much better game than so many I have seen. It is not easy, the enemies attack in group, adapt the offensive and get tougher with time. Your character dies all the time and you have to try again countless times, but once you finish off a chapter boss you feel a real sensation of accomplishment.

What I like the most about this Ninja Gaiden version is that you can't expect the enemies to behave the same, even when you are trying again and encountering the same group of foes in the same situation you had before. The AI is very good. Depending on how you face them, your first strike, your character's position, etc, they will change the strategy. Also, as other reviewers mentioned, most enemies have some attacks that can't be blocked (you must try to evade them), if you block for too long or at the wrong time, they will break it and if you use the same attacks many times without varying, the enemies will adapt, blocking or evading them.

The graphics and sounds are good, but not too impressive, but I prefer challenging AI with good/average graphics to weak AI with mesmerizing graphics any day.

If you want real tough action, try this title (there is a demo at the Playstation store), but if you get frustrated easily, don't bother. There are easier titles around.

One criticism I have is that the saved game loading (when your character dies and you want to continue) and chapter loading (once you complete the previous one) are slow (at least, for me), even after installing the game in the hard drive (though it does improve it). But, it is a minor issue that doesn't affect the rest.

Advice: master the combo techniques. There are several of them and some require a sequence of 6 buttons to work. Your path will be smoother and the chapter bosses fall faster.

In the end, a great title.

This is a great game, nothing but a fun ride all the way through the MANY levels. It also has tons of extras to be unlocked, so this is a highly playable game over and over again. It just never gets tired. Sure if you have played Ninja Gaiden Black for the xbox it may seem a little recycled but that was for a different platform. The Sigma series is something you need to play for yourself. A great addition to the Ryu Hayabusa story line. The graphics and story line are amazing not to mention brutal gameplay with a wide array of weapons. You won't be disappointed and it's at a great price now that it's a greatest hit. Get this game.

I know I'm a bit late to the roller coaster ride known as Ninja Gaiden, but I finally made it. Ever since I played Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening I've used that game's difficulty as a benchmark to which I compare the difficulty of other games. I have several games that range from challenging to difficult, such as Jak II, Jak 3, The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Prototype, and of course the original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 4. However, none of those games came close to the extreme difficulty of DMC 3... but then along came Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I've never played the X-box version, so if you want comparisons between that one and the PS3 version, then look somewhere else. Anyway, this game is as hard as the legends say, a close cousin to DMC 3. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is all about relentless, brutal, fast paced, in your face action that will constantly demand players to be at the top of their game; the second you slow yourself down or relax... you're dead. You are Ryu Hayabusa, wielder of the legendary Dragon Sword and leader of the Hayabusa Ninja Clan, and after his village is decimated by evil forces, Ryu goes on his quest to retrieve the stolen Dark Dragon Blade and take his revenge on those who have royally pissed him off. The story is your basic cookie-cutter affair which was quite literally just tacked on to this game for necessity's sake. There's basically no character development and the plot is thinner than a reality t.v. modeling contestant. You'll find more story elements in the game manual than in the actual game itself, and Ryu literally has only about 10 to 15 lines of dialogue in the game... the ENTIRE game. But I knew going in that the focus of NGS was the gameplay, so I won't hold the lack of story against it. Ryu is a deadly, modern day ninja who is a master of weaponry and ninpo (ninja magic), but his enemies are just as deadly. He'll fight other ninjas, samurais, soldiers, cyborgs, and ugly monsters known as Fiends; and they're all a bunch of supreme jerks. Knowing when to stop attacking and then go to blocking and dodging are the keys to survival in this game, and it must be done with PRECISE timing. From the lowliest enemy soldier to the most powerful of Fiends, all the enemies in this game will beat the crap out of you repeatedly, until you pick up their patterns and learn when to slash and bash them to pieces. Ryu is certainly not short on weaponry with which to do terrible things to his enemies: he'll have a sword, twin swords, a staff, flails, shurikens, a bow and arrows (normal and explosive), and more. He'll also use his ninja magic to attack enemies with fire, ice, and lightning spells.

You also play a few missions as Rachel, a Fiend Hunter with a large hammer and a pair of honkers that are nearly just as large. Her attacks typically do more damage than Ryu's, but she's also comparatively slower, plus she can't wall run like Ryu can. Out of the 19 chapters in this game, you only play as Rachel for about 4 of them, which was enough. Even though Rachel's strong, her more limited mobility and the fact that she only has one main weapon makes it easier for enemies to adapt to her attacks and get around them. Ryu's many different weapons offer him numerous styles of attacks and certain weapons work better against certain enemies, making him a superior warrior all around. Aside from slaying enemies, NGS has many puzzles for players to tackle, most of them involving finding special items to activate machinery and open doors. Since several of the levels you go through are interconnected and the game isn't always very specific about what your next goal is or where your next destination lies, you may find yourself getting lost from time to time. As difficult as this game is, it probably wouldn't have been quite so infuriating if the camera wasn't out to get you just as much as your enemies. It can be adjusted most of the time, but other times it is fixed... unfavorably. Several times, especially during the boss battles, Ryu was knocked towards the camera, then he disappeared from sight and was ruthlessly pummeled offscreen. Even during a couple of the platforming sections of this game the camera annoyingly looks away from the next spot you need to jump or wall run to, usually leading to Ryu falling into a conveniently placed pool of liquid hot MAG-MA! Even learning how to properly make Ryu dodge and jump correctly takes time to get used to, but once you do it makes things easier (somewhat). Save points are frequent enough that even when you die, you normally won't have to replay too much before you get back to where you were killed. I was greatly annoyed however at how the game no longer gives you access to an upgrade statue in which to buy things like health items and arrows during the last two missions, even though you fight many enemies and bosses in a row. Also, the fact that Ryu is unable to absorb soul essences from fallen enemies while he is blocking and attacking is just plain stupid since you really need that stuff to gain health, magic, and currency. Those are just downright sadistic gameplay mechanics. Again, much like Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is brutally difficult and cheap, but it can be very rewarding when you're finally able to defeat the very tough enemies that are thrown at you. So all in all, this game is fun and has lots of cool looking characters and enemies, with plenty of fantastical ninja swordplay. NGS is not for casual gamers and is more fit for hardcore masochists; I fall somewhere between casual and hardcore, so if you're like me, it's probably better that you play this game only if you're a big fan of ninjas and action games in general. Either way, be wary.

I'm half way through the game. If it were one word I had to use to describe it, I'd say challenging. It's not your typical button mashing hack n slash. As stated by others, it takes technique. It also takes alot of patience. I could see some people breaking their controllers out of frustration. But that doesn't take away from the fun. Finding new weapons and upgrading them is a plus. The only negative I have is the camera angle. Sometimes it can be a little weird. Unlike alot of games these days the storyline is worth paying attention to. The graphics are also nice. 9.5 out of 10 in my book.

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is the continuation of the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series on the PS3. This game continues in the likeness of the first game bringing CyberConnect2's outstanding graphical engine for the series to the Shippuden storyline. Apart from the visuals, the game prides itself on going through the Naruto storyline up to and through the Pain Arc (that is through episodes 1-175 or through Naruto manga chapters 245-450 of the manga). This is a wise stopping point as the next game would be able to introduce the myriad of new ninjas that were shown at the next arc. I will not spoil the exact details of the storymode fights for that is to be discovered and enjoyed by the player spoilerfree.

The games story mode follows in similar fashion to the first game in which there are a mix of selected fights from the manga/anime that are on transforming battlefields with large scale attacks as well as a mixture of regular fights. Although not every scene from the manga and anime is covered in terms of fighting, those that are pretty good. The game does a good job of splitting it up between not just fighting fights with Naruto and what not. The village in the game has been completely redone from the first and looks gorgeous. You can also travel on foot through locations other than the Hidden Leaf Village. It actually looks like a recreation of how it appears in the anime.

The game has a cast of over 40 characters with the main team ninjas available in the beginning, along with Sasuke, and the ninjas from the Village Hidden in the Sand. You can unlock characters through the story or the use of satisfying conditions and gaining storm points (in game credit earned from everything, can be used to unlock titles and more). Characters can also have their attacks (ninjutsus) customized. The game has an online mode that is available right from the start. It is a great inclusion for one can show off their skills to friends through private matches or playing through public matches (ranked and unranked) with anyone.

The game has titles that can be unlocked (which seems to be over 150) as well as cards to deck out the players online profile, there are trophies included, voice chat is allowed online as well. Finally the game has Japanese Voice Acting as well as English Voice Acting so one can change it. The English voice acting is pretty interesting for several of the characters have yet to be dubbed so players will have a surprise (if they didnt look in advance) to hear their select characters talking. The music in the game is very fitting just like the first and I found carries emotion in like regard to the anime. Lastly there are close to 20 battlefields that can be unlocked and selected for online play. There is also offline multiplayer for two players.

All in all this is the Ultimate Naruto game that fans have been waiting for, and for people who may or may not have an interest in Naruto there is a demo available on the Playstation Network to download the game, and the game does the story mode well enough that people who had never seen or read Naruto before could get interested in it. This is one Naruto game that one would not want to miss.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 is a simple, fun and easy to play fighting game for those who are already fans of Naruto but new gamers should find it a fun to play game too.

This is the latest in the Ultimate Ninja chain and takes place in the Naruto Shippuden era of the show, beginning with Naruto's return to the village and ending a little after Pain destroys the village. The story may not appear to familiar to someone who has only seen the American version of the show because it is farther ahead of the show's timeline.

The story mode has you a lot more involved as character then the last game. You travel and speak to characters and agree to take missions instead of last game's method of simply accessing the menu and picking a mission. This makes the story mode of the game more interesting and more interactive but it also means that you end up having to run back and forth. The map is bigger compared to the last game and you can travel to other lands beyond the Hidden Leaf Village. Unfortunately if you were looking forward to jumping on rooftops and smash open lamps for money, it's not a viable strategy in this game. This game expects that you have to stay on the ground. Another improvement over the previous edition is that you can customize your battle items before you fight in story mode. And, of course, the graphics are also a lot better.

The fighting style and controls are generally similar to the first game. This game comes with a lot more characters than the other game. You unlock characters by getting storm points instead of through the story. You get storm points by winning battles and completing missions. When you get a certain amount of points, you unlock a new character. The Ultimate Jutsu doesn't have the mini game any more but it is more difficult to connect. In awaking mode you are powerful but you can't use Ultimate Jutsu or supports.

Online is a new feature where you can challenge real people with skill and experience, instead of the easy-to-beat computer. You also have an online ranking that is based of the fights you win. Something that is a con to me, but you might like it, is that your power is based on skill. You can't get more powerful as you rank up, just more experienced.

To summarize, the one major improvement over the previous version is, of course the online mode. This should keep the game interesting for a lot longer than than Ninja Storm 1. Other improvements include: more characters, larger map, more complex story and better graphics.

My rating is 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.

I'm new to the series so I never got to try the button option I've read so much about. The analog control system is smooth and intuitive and allows you to easily land high, mid and low jabs and other devastating blows with ease . In the heat of the battle you can really get to wailing on your opponent.

With my large hands it takes some practice to get used to pushing the blocking and leaning buttons up top. I tend to forget on occasion and hold my index fingers straight out, mainly because I'm about to fall off the edge of my seat trying to anticipate punches.

I'm a LONG time gamer, and I've got to say this is one of the most intense games I've ever played. It has beautiful graphics, outstanding sound effects and action that doesn't let up. I love when you take a serious hit and your heart starts thumping and your ears start ringing. It's so awesome!

Getting up from a K.O. is serious business as well. You've got to bring yourself up off the floor and maintain your balance while doing so, again in a totally intuitive manner using both analog sticks.

This is the first game which I feel I've got the value of what I paid out of it and I'm still fairly new to it! It's easy to justify owning a copy of Fight Night Round 4. Highly recommended!

Let me start by saying that I have always been a fan of the FN series and I fell in love with FNR3 even though it has its fair share of glitches. I have always used total control and never enjoyed button mashing but I agree that FNR4 got it backwards this time around. True the graphics look great, the game play is smoother, and there are more fighters, but this game feels like facebreaker. Did EA play this game or just release it. The new total control just makes it easier to throw 100 jabs. You don't need any strategy to play this game because half way through a fight you will find yourself just throwing jabs to keep up with the computer throwing 200 jabs (with no stamina loss). The only good thing this game is good for is watching the computer fight the computer. I never like to rip on a game just because of a new learning curve but this is ridiculous. To get the full control of your fighter you literally have to be pressing and holding all the L&R top buttons and manage to perform an unnatural thumb movement just to throw a weak hook. Everyone who says this game is great is either new to the franchise or just love no stop jabbing for 5 rounds. Come on people... that does not make a game intense and exciting to play unless your 5, but this is just my personal opinon.

We're slowing getting toward the ultimate boxing game. This is a big improvement in many ways over the last Fight Night game. However, although it is realistic in a lot of ways it seems as though you are able to throw way too many punches per round. I had an Ali vs Tyson match last night and the punch output was ridiculous. Ali threw everything at me but the kitchen sink including countless arcade-like power-punches! I landed a lot of good punches playing as Mike but they didn't seem like they were that effective. Everyone knows that if Mike hits you with a clean full impact punch, you're gonna get knocked down at the very least! But then again, I had played a few matches as Thomas Hearns and I was able to box just as he did.

The lighter weight matches seem more realistic in that there is a higher punch output which suits the game better. I'm happy that they included a great deal of legendary fighters like Chavez, Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Foreman and so on. But I cannot see why they couldn't include Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Larry Holmes and Bernard Hopkins. I'm hoping for that either in the next game or an expansion pack. Anyway, I highly recommend the game! It ranks alongside of Knockout Kings 2001, Punch Out! and Victorious Boxers 1 & 2 as one of the very best boxing games ever created!

I still don't like the new haymaker method although the old one was too easy to perform. On round 3 it was fun to counter and just knock guys heads off, but once you mastered the game it was way to easy to beat anyone. Now it is actually more satisfying when you land a haymaker because it is harder to do. My other gripe is that it is obvious in single player mode that the computer counters you way more than you counter it. I probably pull off 20 perfect counters per fight that go unrewarded. I have to figure that this is again because if you could counter whenever you wanted victories would come to easily. To the people who hate total punch control, i still rememder the first time i used it and hated it. Then a week later fight night was my favorite sports game of all time because OF IT. I promise you that if you give it a chance you will love it. It is the only way to really feel like you are the one throwing the punches. Just put the game on easy until you master it.

As far as graphics I dont have to say anything because they are as good as it has gotten on next gen. There could be more to the legacy mode to make it more of a realistic career experience. I would'nt mind to see real time results of other fights. Somtimes it feels like your fights are the only ones going on. The training games are a little too hard, and i consider myself to be good at the TPC. I simulated the training which of course gives you the minimum stat increase. This bothered me because one of my personal goals is always to be rated 99 in as many categories as possible.

The fighting, of course is the highlight of this game and once you play it enough that is all you care about. You will find yourself skipping through all the things that delay you getting into the ring as quickly as possible. In conclusion, this is simply the best boxing simulation of all time. It is a blast to play. I get into the fights in this game more than I have ever gotten into any game. It makes you feel like you are the one in the screen. I have to quickly remind myself that I actually didnt just knock Mike Tyson out! It is a truly origional gameplay experience that any gamer should experience. Go get it and work on the total punch control and you will love it!

I am a huge Fight Night, and Knockout Kings fan, have all of them, here is my review, take it for whats its worth...

I am a bit disappointed with the game play, they totally changed the "total punch" control buttons, and made the system quite hard to throw the punches you want. For example, when i am attempting a hook, i get a uppercut, when i want a jab, i get a hook. I couldnt believe how hard it was to throw body punches. Also it is impossible to counter a punch off a blocked punch. I got so frustrated with the new system I went to change the total punch stick to the old school and still there were problems (its not the same as FN3!!!)

The graphics are amazing. The sweat, blood, and reactions are a step up from FN3.

The boxers added to the game are a bit questionable, but since there is 48 boxers to choose from, you really cant complain about that. I do wish they had the De La Hoya and Holyfield in the game.

One area that i was pleased with is the create your own fighter option. It is a major step up in an area that was basically left abandoned for the past 5 years.

Overall i like the game, but they could have done better with the gameplay, which in my opinion is its only flaw.
