The one pictured above was not the one I was sent. My model numbers match the description of this item. I was sent a PS3 slim drive. I bought this because my ps3 stopped reading discs. Once it arrived I knew fairly well how to take apart my ps3 and replace the drive and PCB board. So I figured Id just swap the boards and use my metal plate from my old ps3. Well once installed I plugged everything back just how it was before and nothing. The disc spins and stops every 2 seconds. I regret buying this. Ive tried everything and nothing happens. Definitely sending this back. If anything changes i will update.

I was so bummed out when my PS3 stopped reading/recognizing any sort of disc. I thought I'd have to suck it up and buy a new PS4 when it comes out. I tried ALL the fixes (hidden menu, resetting, file restore, etc.) and nothing worked. I took apart my PS3 myself and tried fiddling around with it to get it to work but to no avail. In a last ditch effort, I decided to spend the money on a replacement Blu-Ray drive, especially after I found out that the PS4 is not going to be backwards compatible!

One thing to note that I didn't realize when I purchased this replacement drive, you'll need to swap out the PCB from your old broken drive with the one from the replacement drive. Apparently, it's not just plug and play because the drive is "married" to the PS3. There was a piece of paper that was shipped with the replacement drive that directs you to a Youtube video tutorial. Although the video was for the disassembly and replacement of a Blu-Ray drive in a PS3 slim and mine is an old fat one, it was easy to follow and worked anyway! I am now looking at my Black Ops II playing on my TV!!! YAY!!!!

I received the Drive without any issues. In my opinion I believe that installing this in a PS3 is not for a novice person because you are voiding the warranty on the PS3 and you could cause more damage. However, being that this was my first time opening my PS3 and installing this drive I did not have issues, luckily. Furthermore, this is the third week that the drive has been installed and so far no issues. Im not sure if it plays blu-rays because I don't own any. The install was little rough especially because the video that they have on you tube for the install is for a different PS3 but with some common sense, patience, delicate hands, and a little know how you shouldn't have any problems, I hope. I have the Fat 40Gb PS3.

All i had to do was put in my fat ps3's PCB in with the new hardware piece. Connect it all back again and it was fixed.

Took me abut 10 minutes to take the ps3 apart, remove the blu ray drive, switch the PCB, and then put it all back together.

Shipping was pretty fast, I ordered it on a Friday July 5 and got it Monday July 8.
