I sincerely hope that game companies don't get into this trend of releasing code cards in place of an actual hard copy. This is completely ridiculous. Why would I want to pay $30 for a "collector's" game case when there isn't even a game inside?? I'm a game collector, not a case collector. I still have the 8-bit NES cartridge of Ducktales and it's the game that I value, not the black jacket sleeve that it's placed in!

As for the game itself, it's almost perfect. Voice acting, graphics, dialogue and the addition of collecting minor items to get to the boss. It makes for exploring every last place in a stage necessary, but with an in game map and hot point locaters, this is not a problem.

The soundtrack, which was excellent in the original version, has been updated with great style while still retaining it's classic origins. My only minor disappointment would be for the African Mines level. The 8-bit version had a saxophone blues style which I loved. The updated version has a similar melody but the sound has been replaced with a 70s disco funk. Not a good switch in my opinion.

Changes for the most part were made for the better; mine cart rides (which I hated in the NES version) are a lot more forgiving. There is no longer a number of lives that the player has to worry about running out of. You can die as much as you need to, and still start off at a generous checkpoint if you've made good progress.

The really ugly change made in this game was near the very end. If you've played the original,you know that after defeating the final boss you need to race Magica Dispell to the top of the level and retrieve Scrooge's number one dime. Well apparently Capcom and Disney decided to be sadistic and call it a challenge. Instant death boiling lava that's literally always on your tail, chains that break off, platform blocks that crumble into dust... I honestly didn't have that much trouble with this game at all until this part. I have died at least twenty times and have still not made it past this one part to achieve the ending. What really irks me about this is not just the insane difficulty jump (I'm playing this on easy level), it's the fact that beforehand I was truly enjoying this game. It felt more like going on an adventure with one of my favorite childhood cartoons. When I reached this point however, it completely took away that feel and replaced it with "a video game where I keep dying and dying and dying and etc."

Closing comments? 1.)When games are being sold at stores they need to be put on discs. 2.) Not everything has to be changed AKA harder difficulty. 3.) Ducktales will always be one of my favorite video games and cartoons.

This isn't even a physical copy of the game. Just a code, plastic case and a pin.

Current Gen Gamers, and Newbies, prepare to weep. This game will send you into a raging fit of Tourettes if you aren't polished in the art of old school gaming.

Take for example myself been playing games since the dawn of the NES. I've beaten Mega Man 2 at least a dozen times, sometimes in my sleep. As a girl gamer, I was a rare breed back in the day, and kicked ass at Mario Borthers all the way to Street Fighter 2 Now women comprise over 50% of the gaming population.

Fast Forward to today games have save points all over you can't even roam around for more than 20 or 30 seconds (slight exaggeration on my part) without seeing the "Autosave" feature pop up. It's a nice feature I might add, and takes away the redundancy of having to play a level all over again from the beginning... this of course brings me to my review of Ducktales.

BE PREPARED to play each level OVER and OVER again. Even this old school gamer with polished up skills had to play the Amazon level 4 times in order to complete it. For some reason or another, the Transylvania level was less challenging, and Magica was an easier boss IMO than the stomping Totem. I beat Transylvania on the 2nd try.

The Nicest part about this rendition is once you complete a level, it saves it for you. Had you played the NES copy, you would have to beat the game in one sitting oh yeah, and with only 3 lives for ALL levels. Sadistic... yes. Did this provide good replay value? Of course!

I will update my review once I get through all the levels and let you know what I thought of the entire game, but it's a VERY close remake to the original. Everything from the music, graphics, and level design, to the pogo stick which at times, doesn't work as well as you'd like it this game takes me back to the days of the NES, and my glee when popping in the cartridge, perhaps blowing off some of the dust before inserting it into that toaster oven of a NES system.

Thank you WayForward I love all your games, and you did this title justice and to the much beloved DuckTales series! :)

The remastered version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) classic, DuckTales, is fantastic! The remastered version has wonderful music, excellent voice acting, beautiful graphics, and an updated storyline which still retains the charm of the original. If you enjoy platform gaming, and love old-school-like graphics (in HD), I can not fathom how you would fail to love this gem!

Wait! If this game is so great, why am I giving this product such a low score? The answer is: while this may appear to be an actual game, you are basically paying TWICE what you should for a downloadable code! I will spell it out in large letters:

THIS PACKAGE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE GAME

What does it include? It includes:

1)a code (voucher) for downloading the game

2)a cheaply made pin with Scrooge's face

What about an instruction booklet? Nope. Nothing else. While it really looks like you're getting the game on disc, all you're getting is a package, a pin, and a voucher. So, if your PS3 is not connected to the web, this will be useless to you! If this package provided an instruction manual, OK that would at least be something, and the pin which would have made a nice "bonus" item. However, I feel that this package is deceiving. It really looks like you will receive a game, but instead it's a downloadable voucher for the EXACT same game you can purchase for $15. The retail price of this package is $19, so to be honest, a few dollars more for a collector's pin is OK if you really want it (although overall this still seems like a waste of plastic in my opinion). However, people are already trying to gouge the prices, and here on amazon it's hard to find it for less than $30 if not more (some sellers are asking $50 and at least one was asking around $70)!

Bottom Lines: you are getting a voucher and small pin, that is all. NO GAME! If you are happy with this, then go ahead. However, if you just want to play the game I strongly suggest just purchasing the game online which you can do for $15 if not less. Also, for those that actually like physical copies of their games, I would encourage you to send an email to Capcom and tell them you would like to see a real physical release for this game! Hopefully this review clarified questions you may have had. Great game, but disappointing package in my opinion.

As most people expected, an actual disc-based version of this game is coming in Nov 2013 for $20. No, not just a case with a code, but an actual disc. This was all just another Capcom cash grab.
