The other reviewers tell you everything you need to know about the game. It's a lot of fun. I couldn't find a clear answer before buying it to whether or not my rock band guitar and drums would work with it. Thus, the point of this review is to let you know that YES they will work. You don't have to buy a whole new set of equipment. This isn't meant to discourage you from buying them if that's what you want. I'm just letting you know you don't have to if you own the first generation or Rock Band equipment. I, personally, just don't have the space to house two drums sets. I wouldn't have bought the game if the controllers weren't compatible for that reason. My only small complaint is that some of the songs on Rockband 2 and GH WT overlap but there's enough songs that don't (Hotel California and Purple Haze) that it's worth buying both.

This is a good enough game for even those who can not pony up the dough for full kit or a new guitar, just get the game and play just bass and guitar, and let your inner rock fury go!

I myself purchased this band kit as soon as I could this morning the day of release, and it is well worth it. Here is what comes it the kit: Drum kit(3 pads, 2 cymbal risers, kick pedal) with midi in and expansion port, drumsticks, usb microphone, guitar with connector/usb splitter, stickers for guitar. All you need to connect in one box, no need for extra usb hub if you do not want it.

A bit about the drum kit, very playable, durable upper, kick pedal is a bit flimsy, but alright for my purposes.

A bit about the new guitar. This features detachable faceplate, extended neck, larger strum bar, longer whammy bar, and the tap/touch pad. this guitar is not necessary for any features in the game, but for advanced gamers, they may find it a new fun way to bend the sounds on long notes, or get through hammer-ons and pull offs faster. I'm pleased I can get through this on the old Les Paul.

Now, about the game itself, see song listing above, it's amazing. Just a ton more songs available in the game, only a few to "purchase" in the game, the rest unlock. The venues and graphics are all sharp and fantastic to look at. The animation of the Guests who come in are spot on, such as Ted Nugent riding in on a Bison, or Zach Wilde's attitude behind the 6 string. There are many other guest such as Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumkins, the Lead Singer of Paramore, and the drummer from Blink 182. Overall the game play will keep you busy for many hours (took me almost 4 hours to get 50% through, minimal breaks). The head to head battle's with guitar legends is now replace by guitar challenges with masters like Ted Nugent And Zach Wilde where you don't try to cut strings and stuff, you just try to keep up with them and make yourself and them look good. If you do, you play an encore with them.

Also, there is a recording studio that allows users to make and play their own music, a first like this for this genre (though rock revolution tried). And much like legends of rock, there is online team play, head to head battling.

If you do not have another "Band Kit" and are looking to have one, this is an excellent choice, and having played Rock band and Rock Band Two, this is at or above both of those, especially since they are all "Master Recordings", no covers, and it has plenty of great songs fulfill my need to thrash, rock, or pop my way about stage.

This is a good game but it falls short in a couple of areas:

Pros (always good to stay positive at first):

Music that just isn't available anywhere else

Death Magnetic Album (tight)

Recording Studio is kinda cool I like how you can pick scales and effects with your axe (more on that in Cons)

Create Rock Star is really in depth

Compatibility with RB instruments (biggest plus)

Cons

DLC Content is practically non existent (yes it is new but at least support all of GH:3's content would have made up for it)

Graphics are not as good as they could/should be

Recording Studio is like a create your own ringtone studio......vocals should be in there in some medium......maybe they just can't publish vocals on the net

The instruments don't sync that well with the TV and Calibration does little to fix this

Overall GH:WT is a fun game and its worth it if you just love this genre of games to own as it gives you more songs to play. I just think Activision should have stuck to what they were doing before. People love the GH games and with the Artists that they always get they will sell games. I think GH: Aerosmith is cool and I am sure GH: Metallica will sell a lot of games.

This one i can qualify it as essential, and in my oppinion, it has the best playlist on all GH games, even of the most recent ones. The playlist is incredibly varied, so i can say that anyone will like it.

You have Metal, Hard rock, pop, grunge, Gothic rock, Country and Dance music, there are other genders but i don't know how they are called.

So anyway, if you're a Guitar Hero fan or collector, this one will be an essential one, and if you're about to start in Guitar Hero world, this is the best edition to start with.

First off, love the songs. Out of the box, GH has the best songs period. The download content is also great if you want more.

However the gameplay was either too hard or too easy. Even with the 5 skill level, the game just seemed to be too large a jump in skill levels. The speed the notes come and the notice you get before they were even on medium makes the game very hard unless you learn and memorize the songs.

Also unlike Rockband, you can not simply add older games songs into the library of music. That was a huge selling point for me since we want as many songs as possible.

The slider was pretty cool for the guitar but does not get much use. Its kind of a gimmick IMO and not really needed.

The graphics were not as good as Rockband either nor is setting up to play. It felt like it took a lot longer to select songs and play. Though the graphics do not matter much for a game like this, being able to get into a game quick with friends is critical.

Overall not a bad game but just not as good as I had hoped. Not sure if I would by another GH game after this one, as when people come over we all play Rockband.
