I've been playing since Beta and thus far it's the most fun I've ever had in an MMO. The action is fast-paced, the graphics are gorgeous, the music is beautiful (no surprise to any long-time Final Fantasy fan). The game itself is definitely a 5-star experience.

The only complaint I have is the egregious bait-and-switch Amazon pulled on me. Approximately 6 weeks before release, Amazon was offering PS3 and PC standard editions and said that PC collectors edition was sold out, with no mention of the PS3 collectors edition. A couple weeks later, they added the PS3 collectors edition. I preordered the PS3 collectors edition about a month before release and that was that. I received my preorder code for early access, Moogle Cap, and Cait Sith Doll in an email the same day. Release date rolls around, and at 7:33AM I get an email saying Amazon has cancelled my order due to lack of availability. They didn't charge my credit card, fortunately, but this definitely should have been caught before the release date. Like, for instance, when I ordered it. Or at worst, yesterday.

Seriously Amazon. This is just weak. A form letter email is not a good substitute for a game with art book and soundtrack. At the very least, you should be offering me a free download of the soundtrack as compensation for your oversight.

UPDATE August 30: Though it's not the same as an art book, soundtrack, etc., I have to give Amazon kudos today. I was checking my email today and saw a new message. Amazon has given me a $50 promotional certificate to make up for cancelling my order, even though they hadn't charged me for the game.

Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 was lacking many things: Gameplay, Crafting, Mobility, and many other things that makes an RPG fun and not seem like a huge chore. A Realm Reborn, the reboot, has fixed all of that. I was a beta tester for all the phases, and it was nothing like 1.0. It was a whole new game. The game babies you until you understand the whole concept of the game, so you don't have to worry like in 1.0 where there was absolutely no explaining. All the content that was released for beta testing was abnormal. There was so much content than any other beta testing phases for any game out there! I'm excited to see end game and the extra stuff they will be adding soon. Yoshi-P has definitely fixed this game and turned it into a beautiful experience that I truly wanted when I first played 1.0.

I am loving the game. I was a 1.0 player and I love what the new Dev team has done to the game for 2.0

I know there have been some issues with servers but I know they are working to resolve them quickly.

However, I paid for the PS3 CE back on May 27th with overnight shipping to guarantee my copy to get to me today....and Amazon dropped the ball. They still have not even shipped the game yet. I will never pre-order a game from this company and will stick with Best Buy and other local stores.

I just found out that I will in fact not be receiving my product on time like I was promised and will be contacting Square Enix to let them know that Amazon failed to do their part in making sure that SE's product was delivered in a timely manner to its customers.

As another lucky beta tester of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on PS3 version, I can say many great things about this and how excited I am for the upcoming open-beta and finally the release. At first I was very skeptical about this being another mmo introduced on a console after Final Fantasy XI. The biggest improvement I have seen is the battle system, very fast and responsive. The controller map is very friendly and easy to use. You will use L1 to flip between emotes and actions (such as /sit, /smile, /kneel) and you will use R1 to access your attacks and spells. From there you can map what would be the equivalent to a "Hot-Key" on a keyboard using the mappings of triangle, X, O, square, and directional d-pad buttons for a total of 8-hot-keys. All you have to do is press R1 and the respective button to cast. At first this seems very confusing, but becomes very very easy. Targeting at first was very cumbersome, but once I figured out through the system configuration > character > target, you can set which target you want to snap to. (my original issue was I was trying to target the mob attacking me, but it kept flipping to one idle yards away) Once you set the targeting systems focus, it will snap to the nearest, or one attacking you automatically making targeting very simple. If you have played any Ever Quest, World of Warcraft or similar, you will quickly notice the system to use this approach. Your quest journal works dynamically with the map, showing you exactly where to go. The only enhancement that can be made is to automatically display the map the quest is in if you are not in that area. You will have to flip between east, north, central, west, and south maps to find exactly where the quest is if you are not in that current area. But this isn't a deal breaker and "should" be enhanced before release. Duty finder works very well, if you are new to Final Fantasy games, Duty is pretty much words for Dungeon. Also the challenges are very nice allowing you to set the levels higher if you are in a party to gain more rewards.

I've been with FFXIV since the bitter beginning in 2011. This is the strangest MMO experience I've ever had. From an unplayable laggy turkey of a game to a passable experience in 2012 and now to something completely different in 2013. This game is not going to please everyone. But it does a lot to please most. It is extremely accessible yet can be quite difficult. It appeals to both those looking for battle classes and those looking to delve into crafting and gathering. Its class/job system makes fleshing out your character very uniquely fun as you can eventually train your avatar in every single job and class instantly switching seamlessly between them.

This game will only get miles better with subsequent planned patches by Director Yoshi-P. Content has been designed and is ready to go with a major content upgrade coming just a couple months after release. Its clear that Square Enix intends to stick with this game and grow it into something very special.
