I've been playing De Blob 2 for a couple weeks now, after buying it on release day. The first De Blob was one of my favorite games for the Wii. I bought this de Blob 2 for the PS3 because I wanted to play the game in HD.

I was slightly worried about the transition from using a Wii controller to using the PS3 controller. I was pleasantly surprised though. When playing on the Wii, my arms would start to hurt from flicking the remote. The PS3 version (when played with the regular controller, not the "Move") only requires minimal use of the controller's motion sensor. The controls are smooth and it was an easy transition from Wii to PS3.

As in the first de Blob, evil creatures have taken over the world and removed its color. Your job as De Blob is to add color to the world by painting yourself and then touching objects. Various enemies try to spray you with black gunk as you make your way through the levels.

Each level has a main goal such as liberating university professors and students from a black and white world. After completing the main objective, there are ancillary quests such as repainting billboards or bringing trees back to life. There are also various items to collect such as light bulbs that allow you to upgrade De Blob, purple swirls that make De Blob paint in patterns instead of just plain color, and pictures for the picture gallery.

This game is rather hypnotic and relaxing. I've only been frustrated once so far when I kept running out of time on one particular level. I've played about 14 hours now and think I have about halfway to go. The ancillary missions comprise about 25% of the play time, so if these missions don't interest you, the game will likely be quite short.

I love this game and hope the developers come out with a third iteration.

When seeing this game on the shelf i passed because i thought it was a stupid kids game. I borrowed it from a friend and played the first island and returned it to him. Why the 5 star review then you ask, well ill tell you its because after i returned it to him i went the store and bought it. I am in love with this game i love the concept the music and the graphics. This game is fantastic in almost every way you should really buy it. Its a platformer with a neat take on the genre. When i said fantastic in almost every way the almost is the camera it gets wonky at times but just push L2 and its fixed.

One of the first games I purchased when we bought our Wii was deBlob. It was a ver fun game with incredible jazz music but the exclusive use of the Wii remote was at times inconvenient and eventually became tedious especially in the later levels. It was family friendly but a challenging game for adults as well. De Blob 2 has taken all the good stuff in the first installment and made it better. More creative, challenging and entertaining.

One major improvement with the deBlob 2 is that the players have the option of using their PS3 controller or the Playstation Move. That in itself was a major upgrade, graphics aside. The 3 dimensional graphics in deBlob 2 are fun and even the use of a 2D platform for the "inside jobs" just seemed to enhance the Graydian world's 3 dimensional effects.

Basically the game goes like this:

The Inkt Commander has taken over and drained the world of color, music and art. Your job as deBlob is to restore freedom of those things and capture the leader, Comrade Black. Using the primary colors of red, blue and yellow there is a spectrum of possibilities that include purple, orange and brown. As you progress through the game you gain experience points used to improve your character. You always have the option to remix and change the way your character's strengths which is a nice flexibility.

There are two settings for difficulty:

Easy, which is not timed

Normal, which starts you off with 15 minutes of time to complete several different challenges after completed you can finish up more challenges and fully paint the world, find the hidden goodies and rescue the Graydians from their buildings by painting them. Completing the challenges within the 15 minute time period is possible but not easy by my standards (at the end in particular), but I have been having a blast. I am almost finished but wrote this review before completion because of Amazon's request for a review....

I have been having a blast with deBlob 2, my Wife loves the music and my Granddaughter while not playing deBlob 2 on her DS enjoys watching me play. In the PS3 version there is a second character named Pinky who can be played with another player but we haven't done this as yet. I imagine it will just add another dimension of fun to this creative and entertaining video game. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys something very different from the other games out there. It can be particularly satisfying to use your colors to defeat the totalitarian government that has drained the world of color and fun, replacing it with black and white silence.

De Blob 2 is a total blast. It's relaxing, funny, entertaining, colorful, and tons of other good adjectives. I usually play heavier games, and this was bought to really chill out on. The entire experience of the game was very well realized. I never played the first one, but always heard good things. Once I saw a video of the sequel, and the gorgeous graphics on ps3, I just couldn't help myself. Let me break it down like a real reviewer!

Gameplay:

Controls are usually spot on. There are a few difficult sections where the camera spazzes out. The only frustrating parts are when you're scaling a few skyscrapers and then accidentally slip off. Also, when your wife is pushing your hands to make you go in the ink and kill yourself, that isn't too cool either. As for other parts of the game, the missions do get a little old. They aren't as tedious as other games, like gta and infamous, because they are much shorter than the aforementioned games' missions.

Story:

Hilarious, well told, entertaining. There is no actual dialogue in the cut scenes, and it works so well. All the characters and story is wonderful.

Graphics:

Looooooove the graphics. Edges are sharp, colors are vibrant. The overall graphic design of the game is well executed and very enjoyable.

Sound:

Music is great. Upbeat and effortlessly conceived. It feels a lot like the Katamari soundtracks, but not as crazy. Nice, smooth, and jazzy. When you color things, there are little flourishes that are mirrored in the music. The sound design definitely stands out in the game. I've been playing the game with headphones recently, which I have to recommend.

Replay Value:

That might be a little tougher. Unlike Katamari, the levels can only be played one way, really. There are a lot of different little completion tasks on each level, but I'm planning on selling this when I'm done.

Overall:

Great game! If you're looking for something refreshing, give it a shot!!!

Fans of the rather-under-the-radar Wii title, de Blob, were probably as surprised as I was to see that de Blob 2 was coming out.

The first de Blob was great, featuring a rotund little guy taking after his namesake, abosorbing paint in order to literally paint the town, liberating Graydians from the evil Inkt corporation run by Commander Black. It featured funky little characters who gave you challenges and missions to complete in order to liberate one area utilizing a certain paint set (or by mixing paints to get various colors). It also featured a rather unique jazzy and yet almost 60s-lounge-like soundtrack which invigorated and energized the player with its curiously laid-back feel. The humor was cute and not over the top, and all voices were a series of unintelligible words translated in English captions, comic-book style. If you haven't grabbed the Wii title already, do yourself a favor and pick it up for the very low price that it's offered at nowadays.

de Blob 2 took that Wii-exclusive concept and expanded to all 3 consoles. As fond as I was of the Wii title, I had to get the PS3 title to see if HD would, indeed, make a difference. And WOW, does it ever. de Blob 2 looks BEAUTIFUL in HD on a 58" screen! The somewhat deceivingly simple world is actually bursting with details that are subtle, yet noticeable to a de Blob verteran like me.

Graphics aside, though, how does it play? Awesomely! Several new things to note:

1. Should you choose to play with 2 people during the Story, you can! Now you can play a character named Pinky along with de Blob to fight Commander Black who is wreaking havoc yet again after having been marooned on Paradise Island.

2. 2D levels are introduced into the game. While many might think that this is a step backward (I sure did when I first heard about it on IGN!), it's actually quite cleverly done, introducing a new set of gadgets and puzzles to get you blasting through obstacles, elevators, switches, locks, and traps. If anything, I think that the 2D levels have possibly upstaged the 3D environment at times.

3. de Blob now earns "Inspiration Points" which helps him to upgrade his health, number of lives, Pinky, armor, etc. Inspiration points are earned by collecting little idea-icons throughout a level that can also be earned by participating in bonus activities after completing primary objectives within an area.

4. I have played the game with the analog controller or, if you're a Wii veteran like me, the Move controller is also supported. It's quite responsive and functions well.

One minor con to note is that the camera is a little finicky at times but once you've played the game for about an hour, you will learn how to navigate its own particular set of idiosyncracies. It is merely indicative of the varying level of complexity shown in each and every level; every contingency REALLY can't be provided for and you will learn techniques quickly to go from A to B. The levels are NOT set up to be impossible. Every objective does have a logical way of being tackled.

de Blob 2's soundtrack makes another de Blobesque return, and, like its predecessor, starts off with perhaps a simple bass line that will gradually build up in layers of complexity via rhythyms, voices, guitars, saxophones, etc., as you paint more areas of a level. It's a welcome return and it sounds even better than before.

And, if you're obsessive-compulsive like me, you'll find a wealth of objectives and awards to obtain in each and every level. Every tree, rock face, building, Graydian, vehicle, and INKT logo is ready for you to plunder in various colors, schemes, and time frames. The first level alone took me well over an hour to complete in its entirety (even though you could conceivably finish it in about 20 minutes). Every level after that increases in complexity and difficulty. It's rewarding to those who are willing to challenge themselves.

Kudos to THQ for a phenomenal game. I'm hoping that it does well enough to earn justification for a 3rd.
