I played Skyhawks 1942 back in the ole DOS days when 8ghz was fast, and then played most of the air combat games since then. I really like the graphics and excitement of shooting down the enemy (Or getting shot down). The high learning curve sims like, Janes,
and now DCS Blackshark and the Warthog are great also and I enjoy them too.
The high learn curve games are OK if you want to spend all that time just learning to start the engine or get into the cockpit, but if you want to have real FUN and do it in a reasonable time then I highly recommend this game. After all, this is a computer game, not a military similator. If it weren't for the good ole arcade games, played mostly by a keyboard under a DOS OS, on an 8mghz machine..... All these high learning curve games wouldn't exist. Also, those who make real military similators do not make them available for civilian home use. (They wouldn't be cost effect either,... for the home user).
This game has very nice graphics, you do have instances to land & take off, and you can disable your site reticle if you might be inclined to do so, and you can make it almost impossible to complete a mission, if you would enjoy that. I am 62 years old and I sometimes like to get serious with DCS Blackshark, but I really enjoy Air Conflicts also. It's a good Fun Game that you will enjoy.
You can even choose what side you want to play on. I played a combat flight sim before there was even an internet!
Buy the game! Have some fun! If you are serious about flight games I also recommend DCS Blackshark.
I have seen a few interviewers that actually think they are going to end up at the Air Force Academy or in U.S. Naval flight school by sitting in front of their home computers playing Blackshark or A10 Warthog. WOW, what a world.

I have to say that it's a pretty OK game, at least for the price. Got it on bargain and wanted to use it to try out my PS3definitely worth it. I would say that because you're flying older aircraft the thrill is much higher, since that's when dog-fights were necessary. Controls are super easy to learn, and it lets you focus more on the gameplay than on mechanics. The campaign story is pretty solidalthough there are no cut scenesit's all still comic graphics. But hey, it's not an EA production. =D If you like to fly around without getting too technical, this is a good game to look at.I was excited to find a flight sim with both WWI & WWII planes for the PS3. I had hoped this would be a mix of Rise of Flight (PC) and IL-2 Sturmovik (PC or PS3) which allow you to customize the gameplay to make it as realistic or arcade like as you prefer. Unfortunately (for me), the customization is minimal and the gameplay is much like an arcade with some wonky flight dynamics and a story thrown in.The story is told in comic form and fully voiced. Not the best voice acting or story, but still a nice touch.
The graphics and audio are nothing special. There is constant screen tearing regardless if you use 3D mode or not.
It provides 3D gaming which is nice. The text (subtitles & alt/speed) is not done right in 3D and messes with your eyes during missions...otherwise, the 3D effect is pretty well done. I played 2 missions in 3D but preferred non-3D due to the text and comfort.
Online play ... it's in the game, but I tried to find someone to battle online for two nights and found ZERO people. Don't buy this game if you are mostly or even interested in online dogfights.
If you are looking for an arcade plane game with a story and planes from WWI & WWII, then give this a try for cheap. If you are looking for something more realistic or historical, then go with IL-2 Sturmovik or Rise of Flight.

bought this game for my husband, had been looking EVERYWHERE for it and found it readily here. The game itself is beautifuly done, but its quite tricky to master. love playing this and watching husband play it, but still alittle hard for me to enjoy, just not as great as i had hopped. still give it a shot though beautiful, well done game.I give it 5 starsi was just spoiled by IL2 on the xbox360. so ya, I basically picked it up while waiting for the sequial to IL2, "Birds of Steel".I understand games are subjective to the person playing, so I cant really fault the previous reviews that rated this game highly. Personally, I kind of found it to be a bit boring. I think the real issue I have with it is it just moves along too slowly. The planes fly slow, the story develops slowly...the whole thing just seems to crawl. Perhaps it is mindful of real planes from the era, but I am not a slow game fan. I cant play Assassins Creed for the same reason. Just paced too slowly for my tastes.
The graphics themselves are sufficient for the game, and the controls are reasonably responsive, but overall, I think this game falls dead center...not horrible, but nothing special. That being said, it is pretty inexpensive, so it might be worth trying it out just to see for yourself.
