Today's Bonus:
Rather than spend time reviewing the HD Collection as a game knowing full well that there are dozens of reviews which will most likely be far more helpful and complete than my own I'll instead just cover this limited edition and the contents within.
The set is quite similar to the US release: Contains the game and very large artbook that also came with the US release, although it is only half as expansive and thick as the Japanese artbook (that was a massive 400-pager!). This set also includes a t-shirt with the same design as the artbook cover, and a steelbook case featuring CG art of the protagonists from all three present games. The game already has its bases covered as a worthwhile purchase alone, the artbook itself is in credibly high quality, the t-shirt is...well, just a t-shirt really, and the bonus steelbook case is also quite nice (if a bit too uncharacteristically colorful for the series)! However, that are a few downsides to this set:
1-Unlike the US or Japanese release, this limited edition is packaged in a very, very flimsy paper box. Once it is opened, it's quite a pain in the ass to keep everything inside and tidy. Meaning, the t-shirt and artbook especially just sort of become loose items. Which...isn't exactly awesome.
2-It's becoming some sort of trend in Europe, but the steelbook case is included completely seperately from the game itself. Meaning, you get the original game case and manual PLUS a separate steelbook. While it is nice that they give you a choice in the matter (one stop above reversible covers, I guess), it WILL make one of the items loose. And considering the state of the flimsy box (you can hold everything inside), this will most likely end up driving some hardcore collectors CRAZY.
3-Whoever is pricing it here on Amazon is ripping you off. MASSIVELY. This set is an exclusive gift set from Zavvi.com, a UK online retailer. As of this review, the set is still in stock with a reduced price of £49.95 which equals to about $80. Figure in international shipping, and the set will most likely run you an even $100. That is FORTY DOLLARS cheaper than the current USED price on here. ONE HUNDRED cheaper than NEW. As it stands, it will actually cost you LESS to import than UK Limited Edition than trying to get your hands on a US Limited Edition. But keep in mind, while you DO get more goodies with the set, you won't get the rather necessary chipboard box to store the game and artbook.
This is an all-around very decent set with some downsides, just like the US decision. Make sure that you know for certain which one you are planning on getting. In any case, several Marketplace sellers will hate me for this (and probably epically downrate this review), but I'll do everyone a favor here:
