I was pretty excited to get this controller. It was a great value and there is a promising brief review of it on youtube. It is very large which I like, but is a bit heavy. Materials are top notch and it feels like what you would expect German engineering would. The dongle and PS2 to PS3 converter is pretty bulky, and it has a fake reset switch which doesn't move and isn't wired inside. The model I received had corroded rechargeable batteries and would not hold a charge. It is rated for 1.2v AA's, but I gave 1.5V AA's a try and was able to program it. It could also use a labeled PS3 button. I doubt the extra four buttons around the directional pad are programmable in ANY games.
HOWEVER, the PS3 did not recognize it no matter what I tried so I was unable to use it, and I had to return it.
I was considering ordering a full Fanatec 911 GT3 V2 kit but if they are not going to offer ANY support I certainly don't want to be left with a $300 paper weight.

First let me mention that the PS2 to PS3 controller adapter that came packaged with this does not work properly. I am using a PS2 to PS3 controller adapter (with vibration support, labeled "V2") that I bought off Ebay recently for $4 shipped and it works fine. The batteries that came with it do not take a charge, but that's probably because the product was first made available in Germany back in 2006batteries just don't last for that many years I guess. I used some spare AAs that I had laying around and I was good to go.So by now you are thinking that the controller is not worth getting, but I am going to tell you some things now which may change your mind. It's not only wireless and has vibration feedback, but enables you to adjust the analog sensitivity for your racing games in a couple of pretty important ways (steering adjustment and dead zone adjustment). It has programmability which can help in fighting games, and also has a lock-down feature which allows you to use the controller like you would a standard (albeit very large) Dual Shock controller. Though it's big, it's a whole lot more compact and easy to store than a steering wheel.
From what I've experienced, this controller (once you adapt to it's unique pendulum method of steering) has the long throw you need for more accurate control in your PS3 racing gameswhile at the same time giving you access to all the buttons and dpad on the controller with BOTH handsnot just one. I see this as innovative. It really has been a joy to play Gran Turismo 5 with the Speedster and I've also enjoyed playing some of my PS2 racing games with it as well. The way I grip it is unique but comfortable. I've been using the left trigger to brake and pressing the X button with my right thumb to accelerate. This is the best way to work the pendulum action without hand fatigue.
I believe that if you're open-minded about the learning curve of the steering mechanism, you'll improve your lap times in your racing games with this controller considerably more than you can using a short throw thumbstick Sony controller to steer. It's not going to be for everyone, but for racing game fans it's really a great investment. I recommend the Speedster.
