The product description leaves out this important fact. I decided to buy the Rock Band 2 bundle and purchase the Beatles game separately. I paid $50 more, but now I have better equipment and two games instead of one.

The game itself is great (I rated it 5 stars). The Special Value Edition only gets 2 stars for trying to pawn off inferior equipment.

This package is great for a first time user of rock band, but it is not what I was hoping for. The instruments are from Rock Band I, not Rock Band II. This means that the drums are not wireless, the drums and guitar are not as well designed, and you are required to use a USB hub in order to use the drums, microphone and guitar at the same time. While this may be fine if its your first set, if you have used Rock Band II you will be disappointed. You can buy Rock Band II for $160, and in my opinion that's the much better deal. I purchased this set on sale for $100 and decided to return it and buy the $160 set.

Originally I was going to purchase just the Beatles Rock Band software...for a family member. No, originally I was going to purchase an extra guitar for his game. One thing led to another and I found the Special Value Edition that bundles guitar, Beatles game and drum set, without all the extra cost of the group's fancy guitars. Before I was done, I had purchased a PS3 (just in case I needed to "test" the game before turning it over).

The game is way fun and the songs can be extra challenging even on the easier settings but especially on the more advanced. Graphics are as cool as ever. I'm an older guy and found that I don't relate to(can you say never heard of?) a majority of Rock Band II songs, but virtually ALL of the songs on the Beatles game are familiar and fun to play.

Here's the only problem: I think they stuck the original Stratocaster guitars, the one with the irritating clicking fret buttons, in these Special Value Editions. I don't know how to confirm this, but I know the guitar that came with my family member's game looks and plays differently. Did they have some of the old, problematic guitars lying around? Are they getting even with me for not choosing the big, more expensive Beatles box?

So Special Value Edition purchasers beware. You may be better off getting component pieces separately, or just springing for the Rock Band II package and separate Beatles software. Meanwhile, I'll be going back to the reviews to see if I can find a better guitar.

UPDATE: I found a newer version of the Stratocaster and enjoy playing it much more. One comment on this review noted that the Beatles package included Rock Band 1 controllers...wired drumset with breakable kick pedal (and of course the clicky Stratocaster). So far I've had no problems with the drumset, in spite of the cable. I'm keeping fingers crossed with the kick pedal.

game is cool and well done. drum kit feels like good quality but the guitar is noisy and cheap compared to other rock band guitars i've used. i may contact them for replacement. good price on everything though...

Very fun game. I'm really not keen on video games as a rule, but I have fun playing this one. The graphics and synchronization are superb. I almost feel like the fifth Beatle!

Of course, the sound is outstanding. My children are young and have no clue about the Beatles and they LOVE the music, so I'm pretty happy about that! All in all, I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves music and video gaming. It is great fun!
