I have been a big fan of doom since it's release for PC many years ago
now it's released for the ps3 and it's Fantastic I really was amazed at how well
they redid the graphics for Doom 3 and the controls on all three Dooms are
exactly like mainstream FPS games (like CoD and Battlefield) using R1 to shoot R2 to change weapons L1 for flashlight (Doom 3 only)
what's more amazing is they have all THREE games running at a silky smooth
60 Frames Per Second which makes the older games look much better then previous ports. the sound effects are exact as they should be and the option to play
FOUR player split screen on Doom 1, 2, and Online MP for Doom 3 just makes this a Must Have package for
doom lovers everywhere. they also included Online Multiplayer
for Doom 3 and while simple compared to todays mainstream shooters,
it's still a blast to play with multiple game modes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Tourney (one on one deathmatch) and Last Man (be the Sole Survivor). I am about 3 hours now into Doom, 5 hours into Doom 2 and about 6 hours into Doom 3 and if you're looking for a good
scare for Halloween this just might be what you're looking for.
Graphics: Doom 1 and 2 are smoother but mostly the same monster textures are smoother though (doom 1 and 2) Doom 3 looks Fantastic with it's HD makeover and is so creepy compared to most games from this gen. 5 stars
Sound: excellent and exact in D1 and 2 Doom 3 really shines here I am talking sound effects that will set you up to be scared and you will jump, trust me. easily 5 stars
Gameplay: thankfully they tuned all THREE games to run perfectly off the dualshock which makes the game control without effort, also lots of options for gamma, and sensitivity for the speed for turning etc. 5 stars!
Fun: after all these years Doom 3 still makes me jump and I love it. Doom 1 is as fun as I remember with all secrets right where they were in the original release. Doom 2 looks as good plus all hidden areas are still hidden well and the game plays perfectly Doom 3 is the perfect halloween scare game for me with it's Moody sounds and Creepy effects plus the Hd graphics. 5 stars!
Overall: some long load times and slightly intrusive Game Saves (autosave)(sometimes the autosave takes you out of the moment and is annoying fortunately it's mainly before a cutscene or at the end of a level. these are about the only mar on an otherwise perfect Doom release package. Multiplayer is a blast and the single player is just as fun if not more fun then I had remembered.
the graphical overhaul will have you on the edge of your seat since it really brought out the creepy atmosphere of this game. I'd recommend the Doom 3 BFG edition to anyone not just FPS fans. that's saying something. 5 stars for a perfect collection, possibly the best HD collection this year!
if you're question is "is it worth it?"
the answer is simple and easy "Yes it is!"
UPDATE: it seems Doom 1 and Doom 2 have Online MP as well as offline split screen.
I just found this out today as I began playing and got an invite from
a friend, I was shocked we were co-op (ing) the campaign together. just too bad they Removed this option from Doom 3 but still a superb package of games.

A QUICK NOTE: First off, before I begin this review, I want to lay my cards out on the table. Doom 3 is one of my favorite games of all time, but unlike other PC gamers, I never was able to play it on PC. I originally owned the Xbox version (and only that version), and I have never played the original at all on any other platform. Unfortunately, this review will not compare this edition to the original PC games, because I have never owned any of them. I also do not even have my copy of Doom 3 any more. So basically, this review is written by someone who doesn't even own Doom 3 any more. Before I got this, the only Doom game I owned was Ultimate Doom, which I got for PC during this summer's Steam sale.So readers, please, PLEASE, don't go into this review expecting a comparison to the original PC games. I just felt I needed to be honest because I understand that people who already own the games, will want a look between the original games and the BFG Edition.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eight years after it's initial release, Doom 3 is finally available for consoles in the form of the BFG Edition. I'll go out and state that this review will put the overall package over my personal opinions about the games themselves (although I will at least give my personal opinions on them throughout. After all, I love the Doom franchise). Besides, I suspect that if you are here, you are a Doom fan, right? Or at least have a great interest in the series! So let's break it down.
* Both Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil have been remastered with changes to the audio and visuals of Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil.
* HD Remastering and technical improvements are the main selling point id is pushing. This includes improved lighting, rendering, textures, and many more. Also, Doom 3: BFG Edition supports 3D TV.
* On the Audio side, Doom 3: BFG Edition includes 5.1 surround sound.
* The Doom: BFG Edition also includes Trophies/Achievements, as well as a new checkpoint save system for consoles. You can use a flashlight and your weapon gun at the same time.
* The Lost Missions, a totally new, seven mission campaign with a whole new story.
* Finally, Doom 3: BFG Edition includes the original Doom and Doom 2 as a bonus.
THE GAMES THEMSELVES
Doom 3 is one my all time favorite FPS games. Given it's game play model, it's overall consensus is a bit divided. Doom 3 is basically shooting a ton of enemies, only done with extremely amazing technology (At the time, any way), with lavish production values. It's easy to see how Doom 3 can be a tad simple for certain gamers. Those who prefer the likes of slower, more strategic FPS like Metro or Crysis may not enjoy Doom 3 as much as their games of choice. However, if you still find Doom to be as great of a game as it was when it first came out, Doom 3 is as good as you remember.
For me, Doom 3 is still one of my favorite First Person Shooters. Doom 3's combat is pretty straightforward, and it does resemble the original's game play in many ways. However, all the pieces come together for Doom 3, even today. As a result, Doom 3 is still an amazing FPS experience, and as amazing as I remember it. The enemies are oh so cool, the weapons are classic Doom mainstay (read: Awesome), the bosses are frigging awesome, and the experience is still totally compelling and immersive. Yeah, I don't think that this game has at all aged, as controls and all other technical mechanics are as smooth and playable as they were when the game was first released.
Resurrection of Evil follows suit, and aside from new enemies, a new story, and new weapons, it pretty much plays the same. It does, however, provides a fresh new experience for gamers, and simply adds more to the great game that is Doom 3. Rest assured, it's very simple. If you love Doom 3, you will love Doom: Resurrection of Evil.
Doom 1 and 2 are still playable classics, which is amazing considering how old they are. While id's earlier games (starting with Hovertank 3D, and ending with Wolfenstein 3D) feel very antiquated and boring, the original two Doom games are still simple, great fun. Rest assured, they are very old games, and their game play mechanics are very simple. Heck, Doom didn't even feature a "true" 3-D environment. However, despite the fact that the FPS genre has evolved dramatically since it's inception (don't listen to the people who say otherwise, they know nothing about the genre), Doom 1 and 2 are still great games worth playing today.
In addition, all games feature multi-player. The multi-player modes don't feature all of the standard features you expect in games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, but they provide for some classic FPS multi-player that predates the modern incarnations we know and love. The modes included are pretty standard, but fun. Deathmatch is primarly the mode available, but there are different flavors of deathmatch. Standard, team, one-on-one, and last man standing are all included.
THE LOST LEVELS
While not worth the price of the full package, The Lost Levels add for some more game play to the already long Doom 3 campaign, but they do not add anything radically new to the Doom 3 experience. However, they are still fun, action packed, and still atmospheric as the original games, so they are worth playing through.
REMASTERING AUDIO AND VISUAL
Here's the big one: the spruced up visuals. Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil have both been given the HD treatment; another set of games in the line of increased visual and sound fidelity. In the case of the visual end of the games, Doom 3 looks tons better than it did on the Xbox copy I had, which had visuals that looked similar to early current generation video games (heck, it looks better than, say Mindjack). In more technical terms, id Software built the game on improved lighting and textures. The result is as pretty you might expect. I wouldn't go so far as to compare the game to Crysis 2 on PS3, but from afar, it actually could pass for a next gen game (or at least an early one). Seeing Doom 3 in HD only makes the experience even better. If you have a 3D Tv, then you will benefit from the remaster even more.
As for 5.1 Surround Sound, I think it's mostly a somewhat trivial asset. 5.1 surround sound is nice, but it really didn't enhance the experience to previously unheard levels. Having said that, it definitely makes a difference and it sounds awesome on a surround system. If you have one, you already know that this makes a big difference. This edition takes advantage of sound in all directions, letting you hear sounds from.every angle, for better or for worse. Needless to say, this provides a high level of immersion, indeed. Hearing footsteps and unforeseen, near unexplainable ambient noises is scary in every form. Terrific sound design only makes this better. Guns sound extremely impressive, as do all the various sound effects that capably draw you into the experience. In short, not much to complain about here.
As far as sound design goes, Doom 3 sounds great. It's been so long since I owned the original, but as far as I can tell, more well placed sound effects only add to the horror. There was some stuff that I never even remember hearing when playing the original all the years back, and it makes the game all the more immersive.
MINOR GAME PLAY CHANGES
First, flashlight. In this edition, you can finally use a flashlight and your weapon at the same time. The flashlight needs to be recharged, so use it wisely. Thankfully, it doesn't hamper the game's difficulty. The original Doom 3 didn't let you carry both a flashlight and gun at the same time. Some people found it annoying. Other people thought it made the game more nerve-wrecking. Doom 3 changed that, but unfortunately, I can't find a way to switch it back to the original flashlight approach.
Lastly, the inclusion of auto-saving checkpoints. Despite the use of them, you can still save your game whenever you want. It's a good thing you can to, because I found the autosave points to be located very far away from each other, which may either be good or bad depending on where you stand. If you enjoy games that auto save, but not so much that you never feel the inclination to survive, than you will be pleased. If you prefer a more generous approach, you might want to save more often. Ultimately, it all comes down to where you stand. On a plus note, the auto save checkpoints are not as spread out like they were in Rage, so you will feel in less danger of losing all the progress you made within the levels.
TROPHIES/ACHIEVEMENTS
Alright, there's not too much to say about this one. The games come with Achievements/Trophies, and you will find some more replay value in completing certain objectives in order to show other games what you can do if a game company throws a certain task at you. Personally, I honestly find Trophies and Achievements trivial, but if you are a trophy/achievement collector, Doom 3: BFG Edition has many trophies that will keep you busy.
OVERALL:
Playing through all the content in the BFG Edition has definitely reminded me of how much I still love these games. If there is anybody who doesn't own Doom 3, now's your chance. This is one great deal for the price, and it's definitely one of the best HD remaster collections alongside the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus collection. Now, if you already own it, I'm not going to automatically say it's worth buying, so I would advise anybody who wants to know about the comparisons to check out other reviews. However, anyone with a fledgling interest in one of the best FPS franchises of all time should consider this a must buy. If you, like me, lost most of your Doom games as well, then this is also a must buy. At it's current price, it's a terrific budget package for a game series that still holds its own ever since its first inception.Doom was my introduction into the wonderful world of the 3D First Person Shooter. It was unlike any video game I have ever played before. Just three minutes and I was hooked. And I was playing it on a laptop computer that had a black & white LCD and weighed 13 pounds. Of course after Doom came other games like Quake, Half-Life, Medal of Honor, and so forth. The graphics got better, the mechanics more complex, and the action more intense. But Doom was always the one that started it all (for me). As time went on, my gaming went from PC to PS2 and later to the PS3. So when Doom 3 arrived for PC & X-Box only, I had to suck it up & wait.
Oh joy, Doom 3 BFG Edition is available on PS3! First off, it has all three Doom, Doom II, and Doom 3 on a single disc. Doom has been around for a while so I don't think I have to go into the merits of its plot and mechanics. It's still the old school, "See it, shoot it!". It may not be the perfect shooter I'm sure most followers are aware of the flashlight conundrum, I don't need to repeat old complaints. Doom 3's translation onto the PS3 does have some decent graphics. No real complaints there. Doom I & II, however, are still done up in the old pixelated textures no hi-def remastering here. And yet, I don't feel like I'm driving an old jalopy when I play them. They really feel great they really take me back. Overall, this edition is a great buy at around $20. I'm happy.

Dark hallways, beautiful graphics, and a class game come back to life what more can you ask for?I enjoyed this game many years ago when it first came out and I would highly suggest people looking for a fun FPS game to pick this up.
The story is very different to what I remember of Doom but it does well incorporating all the previous elements of the past games into this one!
4/5 Overall, very fun!

DOOM and DOOM 2 are icons. They look great in this package and play very well. Takes a minute or two to get used to a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse, but then it's smooth sailing.DOOM 3 was a game I've never played before now. As of this review DOOM 3 is a nine year old game, yet it still plays very well. The frame rate is super smooth, the lighting is excellent, and the game drips atmosphere. If it doesn't scare you at least once or twice then you have no feelings! DOOM 3 BFG is a great collection, buy with confidence.
