I just received the controller and so far it's amazing. Keep in mind that these are simple first impressions, but thus far, color me impressed. Right off the bat the controller itself feels solid. Build quality is easily a 7 or 8 out of 10. The auto-centering wheel is going to be great for oval races in GT5 and the new NASCAR game. For once I can hold a fairly steady racing line, which has definitely improved my laptimes a bit. So far I've only tested the controller with Burnout Paradise and F1 2010. Burnout I noticed the tighter analog stick helped out while on F1 2010 the steering wheel was smoother. The pressurized gas and brake pedals are phenominal, specially on F1. The great thing about this controller is the ability to change setups on-the-fly. There is a little switch on the back that is labeled "NFS/GT" which swaps the Square/X with L2/R2.

For fast maneuvers like in Burnout, the steering wheel doesn't respond *quite* as fast as I would like, but it still works very well. I think the best part about this controller is how versatile it is. With F1 2010 the steering wheel really helped in the middle of turns where I usually have to put a bit more wheel into it and often spin or get really loose requiring me to get off the throttle. Speaking of which, the throttle on the controller compared to R2 on the official PS3 controller is like night and day. Everyone knows how loose the analog sticks and triggers feel on the official PS3 controller. That is all tightened up quite nicely with the HKS controller. Much more control.

With Gran Turismo 5 now out, I have been putting this controller through it's paces and am happy to report it is holding up quite nicely. The steering wheel on the controller really shines through on the license tests where the difference between Gold and Silver can .001 of a second. With the steering wheel I can hold a steady line through the turns which allows me to keep as much speed as possible. What I'm finding I like most about this controller though is how I can use the analog stick for the hard turns but I can immediately switch to the steering wheel if I come up on a turn that requires just a little more finesse.

My only complaints would be the digital led readout...it's not so much a complaint, but rather that I find it useless as I'm paying attention to the screen, not the controller. This leads me to my second complaint; the controller is wired. While InterWorks has included more than enough length in the USB cord (which is gold-plated, MAJOR props for that, excellent connections!), I'm curious to see if they could have possible removed the led and put in a bluetooth chip and small battery...perhaps gen 2?

Overall, I'm really digging this new controller. There are a few racing games coming out in the future that I look forward to more now that I have this controller. NASCAR 2011 for instance should really benefit from this controller. For anyone who can't afford a racing wheel/seat, or who just don't have enough room for a racing wheel/seat, this is a near-perfect substitution. Definitely recommended!

*UPDATE* September 1, 2011 I've had the controller for almost a year now and I still use it every week on GT5. I'm almost always in the top 3 and that's racing against guys with actual wheels. We usually race 4-5 races during our racing night and Over the past 6 months or so, my average finish is 2nd ;) I have since expanded to NASCAR The Game 2011 and the HKS controller works great. I can hold a pretty smooth line through the turns at every track, but most importantly Daytona and Talladega. You can clearly tell the difference between people using a regular controller and a wheel and this HKS could easily pass for a wheel. I've had people complain that I must be using a wheel and I simply tell them to Google "HKS Controller for PS3" and it shuts them up :)

With F1 2011 coming out in less than 3 weeks (can't wait!) I'll have yet another game I'll be using this controller on an almost daily basis. Still "definitely recommended!" :D

Here is my small review for this racing controller.

Buy HKS Racing Controller Now

I've been playing Gran Turismo 5 with the HKS Racing Controller for 2 weeks. Here is a list of pro's and con's:

Pro:

Same size as a normal controller

Button layout feels natural

Well built and has a nice weight

Topside has a racecar design

Underside of controller is of a different material and doesnt get sweaty

MACRO button lets you program the controller how you want

Wheel is precise

Wheel snaps back to center

Takes hardly no time to get adjusted to the wheel

Gas and brake pedals improve throttle use through corners

Switches on the underside can easily be changed from GT to NFS

Con:

Gas pedal becomes uncomfortable during a long race (it would be nice if the pedals were made of rubber)

Center marking on wheel can become uncomfortable

LED display in middle sometimes goes crazy (displaying random h's and U's)

Triangle and Circle buttons feel like you have to reach for them (bad if you use handbrake)

These are things that I dont feel are either pro or con:

It is NOT cordless (which is fine with me)

I dont ever look at the LED display

USB plug-in is gold plated

Note: I have only used this controller for GT5, I can't comment on how it works in Need for Speed or other racing games.

I bought this controller for GT5 and have had it for 3 months. All in all I'd say this controller is not that great and I got tricked by positive reviews. What bothers me the most is that the professional reviews (Kotaku, Gameinformer, etc.) didn't address the main problem. The LED display shows the real problem with this controller, it's extremely inaccurate. I would attribute this to the lack of support from Sony, PD, and Eagle 3 (Controller Developer). Someone needs to develop better drivers for this. As is a value of 24 is full throttle. The pedals are also made out of a hard plastic that really dig into your thumb after a few races.

I attempted to drive a F1 car with this controller and found it didn't make things any easier, compared to a normal controller. I may not be the best driver but it's impossible to get the throttle response you need while exiting corners, and the brake isn't any better. I found that even when I was gentle I'd usually end up spinning out. Going back to my previous point, the error in the pedals is exponential, as you get closer to 24, each step is equal to a bigger chunk of acceleration. So while 24 is full throttle 21 is about 3/4 throttle.

The steering wheel was a nice departure from the analog, but after using for 2 months, it isn't much better. It helps with holding constant turns, but that's about it.

Since I bought this controller I tried to like it. I am even still using it now, but that's mostly attributed to my attempt to justify this purchase. I haven't heard anything about future driver support for this so this controller, the newest update to GT5 did nothing to improve this controller's performance. If Sony, Eagle 3, or PD develop drivers for this than the controller is worth it. As is I would not recommend this controller to anyone.

In my frustration I bought a Logitech G27 Wheel, I understand that something like this isn't for everyone, but if your in the market, it's 100 times better than this controller.

I also know that Fanatec offers their own PS3 racing controller, I can't comment on how good it is but it might be worth checking out.

Want HKS Racing Controller Discount?

Great product for racing car games at an affordable price compared to a steering wheel system. This allows you to be more precise with the turning, accelerating, and braking. Great for controlling higher power cars as you can easily control the pressure in acceleration and braking. You also have the ability to memorize different button choice options for different racing setups and change the upper buttons on the fly for different race styles.

However, there's 2 things I didn't like. This controller is not wireless so the cable can be somewhat annoying; but, its long enough to make it comfortable. Last the middle acceleration percentage meter is useless as you really can't be paying attention to that; it's just a cool little feature for cosmetic purposes.

Overall, I recommend this product if you're looking to get faster in the game and be more precise in racing and yet not spend $100s on a good steering wheel system.

Great addition to help our your overheating ps3, mine's been nice and cool since purchasing this and looks like it belongs on the unit!!! highly recommended!!!

I purchased this because the description says it will fit an 80 GB PS3. The fan itself is nice. It plugs into a front USB port and cools through the front of the system. Works great, but it has a little plastic piece that snaps onto the PS3, but mine will not fit anywhere. Regardless, the fan works even though it is a little loose. Great product for the price anyway!

The only thing about this product is the fact that you have to keep up with it, as in turn it off and on before you turn on or off the console. If it could just go with the PS3, would be the greatest fan ever.

I recently had a friend whose PS3 went out due to overheating so I decided to purchase a cooler before mine bit the bullet. This item seems to work but doesn't sit well on the PS3 system. So far i've knocked it loose multiple times just walking by. However, it does seem to keep the PS3's internal fans from kicking into overdrive so often.

Want Sony PS3 Cooling Fan for 20GB / 60GB Discount?

Let me start off by saying I have a first generation 20GB Playstation 3 and this unit fits it PERFECTLY. If you don't have a first generation PS3 (20/60GB), it will not fit snug. I also have overheat problems with my machine. The system fan will go on superblast mode and the machine probably won't turn on next time without me resetting the hard drive. Since I have installed this fan unit, the system fan does not ever go on superblast mode. My kids watched netflix on a stormy day for 4 hours and not once did the system fan kick on past the initial start up. I have Infamous installed on the hard drive and play that and the system does not have fan issues. The reason I say this is because games installed on the hard drive make the system work harder than when there is a disc used to pull data from. Overall, I give this extremely wallet friendly fan a high recommendation. I also got it in the mail 4 days after ordering, which is pretty good too!

I have to admit, I had a lot of fun. Playing in a group is fun, but so is playing solo. That, in and of itself, makes this game rather unique. It does become progressively harder to solo, but I would have gotten bored if it hadn't. The controls were fun as well, in that attacks were combos like triangle+square+triangle which lent an arcade feel, but there was lots of collecting and a progressive mission/storyline that was undeniably RPG.

If you want to play solo, buy the game and play away. If you want to group, get yourself a headset (the trick I learned is to have your bluetooth on before you log into the game). I also purchased a wireless keypad, but the game can sometimes be so quick, it shouldn't be your first choice for battles. It is almost required to have some kind of keyboard though, if you want to interact outside of the group/solo play.

Do I think this is the greatest game ever? No. But is it a great game? I feel it is.

I am a huge DC fan. I also really enjoy action RPGs as well as MMOs, but, very importantly, I also like to occasionally solo and not feel dependent on grouping. Finally, I like trying games that bring something new. While some may argue that each component of what DCUO brings isn't new, I would say back that its unique in the way its delivered.

Specifically, when I played the Beta I took one character to 20. I also sat with my son while he played to level 7. His mother used my account to play 2 characters: one good, one evil.

Just my two cents. Hope this helps a few.

After hearing so many people cry about launch day issues and having to "pay to play" the game I decided to write my first game review. I wont pretend that the process leading up to actually playing the game is not tedious and boring. I too rushed home in the middle of the day to install my copy during my lunch break from work. I knew that it would probably take a while to install (more a limitation of the PS3 than a problem with the game), so I decided to have some lunch and mess around on my Xbox 360. I after lunch I was pleasantly surprised to see that the installation of the game was nearly complete. Yay me! I would be able to at least create a character before returning to work! It was at this point that the patch began to download and would take at least 4o minutes to complete. I guess there were issues that needed to be addressed after the blurays had been pressed and i'd rather install a patch than have them push back the release date to repress blurays.

Saddened I left to return to work, I'd have to wait to crack heads in Gotham until after work.

When I returned from work I was greeted by the create a toon screen. Character creation is easy enough. The first choice is where to create your toon. I was torn between the PVP vs PVE worlds. I created toons for both PVP and PVE worlds. The PVP world seemed to be more populated however it was glitchy and I had problems seeing who was attacking me. Also I had chosen a villian and there were far more heroes. Figuring that I'd wait til they iron the kins out I then moved on to the PVE server.

Back to character creation. There are several options to choose from and some seem to have some effect on gameplay. After choosing your gender and morality you choose mentor. The mentor u choose determines the soucre of your power. Then you choose your powers. While there a limited number of powers, the ability to mix and match them with your weapon or combat focus gives a decent amount of creative choices. Next comes the fun part choosing your initial costume. The numbers of colors you get to use in your costume is limited to 3 however you can mix those 3 colors between the various pieces of your outfit and this isn't as limiting as it would seem. However, as you play the game u will find upgrades to your costume that will increase your character's power. These upgrades will change your charcters outfit, what I did not figure out until later is that you can lock your costume so that even though your power increases your costume looks the same. I found the tutorial to be pleasant and informative although it might have been shorter. I think that around my 15th character I will be tired of escaping that ship. Also it would have been helpful if I didn't have to figure out things (like how to zoom the camera in and out or how to lock my costume on my own).

The powers are all pretty cool and the combinations available make for some interesting combat. The movement powers are by far the best I've seen in any video game. Flying feels like flying, superspeed is very cool and the acrobat is a blast. All of them are upgradeable so i will have to experiment with them to see what else they can do.

Depending on whom you choose as a mentor, your starting zone after the tutorial and premise setup varies. The begining missions are simple enough, go to X place and do X I like the fact that X is not always as simple as "defeat 'y' numbers of ???". I haven't grouped with anyone yet due to not having my bluetooth ready but i will be trying that tonight. I have a lot left to see in the game but so far I am really enjoying it.

I normally don't review games but i saw that this was was getting a raw deal from people that have played even less than me.

I played in the beta which was fun except or the game crashing your PS3 for seemingly no reason. I bought the game on launch day and while I have had a lot of fun the game has a lot of problems. So if you are a MMO and Comic Book fan this game will be enjoyable but be advised:

a) voice chat rarely works

b) in game chat has an awful interface making it a pain to communicate

c) quest sharing is not present

d) game will crash your system once in a while

e) a lot of daily maintance by SOE do servers are down each morning

f) large 3gb download after u install 10+ gb from the disk (take me an hour others reported 2-5 hours)

g) game menus laggy, hard to use and sometime lock up

the good news is #e... SOE is trying to fix as much as they can as soon as they can. So in reality until March 2011 you are playing a paid beta.

Great Game!!! But, "DO NOT BUY"!!!!!!!!!!! It is NOW FREE to Download on PSN or PC Online.... Playing in a group is fun, but so is playing solo. That, in and of itself, makes this game rather unique. It does become progressively harder to solo, but I would have gotten bored if it wasn't.

Want DC Universe Online Discount?

I purchased DC Universe Online during the time period when the Playstation Network had just been hacked and was down. Needless to say, I was initially unable to play the game.

However, after redeeming my code online and after a lot of downloading and patching and updating, I was able to get into DC Universe Online.

DC Universe Online is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game), which is a bit of an outdated term because most multiplayer is "massive" and online now, but refers specifically in this case to a game like World of Warcraft.

You log on, you complete missions to earn exp and currency, you spend said currency on making your in-game characters more powerful. Most importantly, you join the rest of the world in doing this, thereby creating your only little digital niche. An MMO is unlike other video games in that its more of a location than an activity. Meeting my friends in Gotham, Metropolis, the Hall of Doom, or the Watchtower seems as natural as meeting them in McDonald's.

Inevitably, DC Universe must be compared to World of Warcraft. WoW is the most popular MMO that has ever existed and for good reason. Blizzard is an amazing video game publisher and their games are unique, engaging, and fun. I played World of Warcraft during it's first year or so and then stopped. I picked it up later, right before Cataclysm came out, to try it out again. Unfortunately, I had the same problem with WoW that I'd had before: no superhero class. (Really, I just got bored eventually with stale game play.)

In DC Universe Online you play as a superhero in the DC Universe, imbued with powers by a time-traveling Lex Luthor. You will play as your own customizable character, but can play as Batman, Robin, etc. for 20 minutes at a time matches in a mode called Legends PVP.

So how do they compare? DC Universe is obviously a game made in the wake of THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT. It was made in response to WoW and probably by people who have spent many hours playing Warcraft. As a result, they have addressed many issues that World of Warcraft has had since its release in 2004. For seven years, World of Warcraft has been a fun game and they've added all kinds of things to it. They made it much easier to level and you can fly around on mounts. All types of neat stuff. But at the core, the game is still the same as it always has been, little more than a point-and-click. DCUO seeks to rectify this:

COMBAT: DC Universe Online has a dynamic combat system. Almost any object can be picked up and hurled around. Bad guys will throw you across the room. If you dodge a big fireball coming your way, it doesn't hit you anyways. All of the combat in WoW is just: click a button, wait, click it again. It doesn't matter where your character stands or how you move. There isn't really any physics. Just clicking and stats. The combat in the game stays fresh and is exciting. Strategy can actually play a difference. Gear and level matters, but not as much as just being good at the game and playing wisely.

STYLE: Once you reach the level cap in any MMO, you generally switch to buying better pieces of armor and weapons instead of getting experience. This is a great way to continue high-level play, however due to the superiority of the best armors, generally upper-level players in games like Warcraft end up looking exactly the same. All the Warriors will be the same, all the Healers will be the same, etc. Not so in the DC Universe. Superheroes, however, are all about style. Any armor/clothes/hats you pick up, you can save the LOOK of, to wear on your character any time, even if you don't need the actual item. Say you want to wear Batman's cape because it looks cool, but the one you found isn't as good as the cape you already have, you can have the Batman cape look, but still retain the stats of the better equipment. My guy looks a beast. I just want you to know.

Intellectual Property: Yeah, DC Universe superheroes are better than Warcraft or any other IP really. Even Star Wars. Think about it. Everyone knows Superman. Could your friend name a single character from Warcraft? Does your mom know who Admiral Ackbar is? I don't think so. Not enough can be said about the thrill of flying around Gotham and Metropolis, free to roam, and enjoying the scenery. The programmers have hidden all sorts of little secrets and characters to meet randomly and rewards for exploring all through the game. I can spend hours just wandering around aimlessly completing collection quests like the Springtime event with Poison Ivy vs. the Swamp Thing.

DCUO is scrupulous about being authentic to the source material. None of the players can wear official costumes, like say, Superman's S crest, or the Green Lantern symbol, but they are available in the form of Iconic Armor. These are specials sets of armor that are inspired by DC heroes or villains and are available to them depending on faction.

Story: And IP leads to Story. Which is done by Geoff Johns with Jim Lee's art. If you don't know, then find out. Wikipedia. These guys are DC comics. The stories are entertaining, correctly themed, and have a lot of variety. There are cool 3d render cut scenes for the big stuff, but the DUOs (2-man dungeons), Alerts (4-man) and Raids (8-man) all have a cool little cartoon/animation that tells the story of your mission and of the boss you just defeated usually. They harken back to their comic book origins and are delightful.

Voice Work: Speaking of delightful. Mark Hamill is the Joker. 'Nuff Said. Even Stan Lee would be excited. The voice work is, in general, all excellent. A lot of the people from the Bruce Timm cartoons have come to reprise their rolls and really bring their characters to life. The game is filled with funny quotes.

And again I can't stress enough the combat system. 99% of my time in this game will be spent in combat and this game makes it fun and interesting. It is interactive and dynamic in ways I didn't think possible for an MMO, much less a console-based MMO.

A quick glance at any other review here will tell you that DC Universe has had some stability issues since launch. I think I got the worst of it. I bought the game and was IMMEDIATELY unable to play it and have been sitting through a month of patches and updates and down times and crash after crash after crash.

But you know what? It's getting better. Each time a patch or update comes out, there is a bunch of things fix. The developers regularly communicate with the fans via their official forums over at Sony Online Entertainment and have addressed SPECIFIC concerns with players.

I am blown away that the developers would actually communicate and listen to their fan base, creating a game environment that is continuously redefined as much by the player as by the developer. If something is really bothering folks, then the developers read the forums and see what they can do ASAP.

Too many times have I bought a product, games or movies or whatever, and felt cut off from its source. Our transaction finished, I am left to judge whether I've just wasted my money or whatever by myself. The product will be good or bad and exactly the same 5 years from now.

DC Universe has only been out a few months and its already much different than it was. This game updates regularly and they add news things all the time.

Some people are upset, and rightfully so, that the game has some issues to contend with. No one likes their game crashing right before the boss. However, this is a very technologically advanced game, with a ton of stuff going on, and only so many people available to work on it. I myself, have crashed several times during missions and had to redo them...

But I did. And I enjoyed it. Because it's a fun game. That's why everyone is mad when they can't play it.

The game is becoming more and more stable and they are fixing issues left and right (some of which were caused by the introduction of a bunch of new, awesome content). If you're reading this post more than a week after I wrote it, then it's already outdated. The game has become even better than it is right now.

In summary, DC Universe is a game with a lot of fun and a lot of potential for more fun. It is an evolution of the whole genre of MMORPGs. In the future, World of Warcraft 2 and any successor will play more like DC Universe Online.

My main complaint, my only one, what I want, is MORE. Just more of everything.

I want more open-world encounters with heroes/villains or Ambush Bug.

I want more power and weapons and Iconic Armors.

Green Lantern trinket! You know you have one already, SOE.

More raids! More costumes! More Exobyte data! More More More!

And SOE has promised more. They've teased new armor and powers. There is a big Fortress of Solitude Raid coming out soon with new armors and featuring Krypto the Superdog... I'm hyped.

So as a new player, having experienced what is sure to be the worst circumstances during which to play this game, I've been having a ton of fun. I convinced my friends to buy PS3s and the game. They're having fun. You could have fun too. This game is already far more engaging than WoW ever was for me.

Alright. I had to unhook internet from my PS3 to my PC to do this. I need to get on some duos. I'll be taking the fight to Brainiac. Enjoy the game.

Dance on Broadway for the PS3 is a dance game that uses the PS3 Move motion detectors to watch where your hands move. As the name indicates, it is full of Broadway songs.

I adore dancing games. I have tried probably most dancing games that exist on the Wii, PS3, and XBox 360 systems. So I'm familiar with how dance games tend to work, and the pros and cons of having them on the various systems.

Dance on Broadway certainly is better than many other PS3 dance games because of its dual controller mode. Yes, you can play with just one PS3 move controller, but it works far better if you have two of them. If you want to play two-player games, then you'll therefore want four move controllers I.e. four of the controllers with the ball tops. That way all of the moves can be properly seen.

The game has each song in its own environment, as if it was being performed on stage. You get a choice of two characters for a given song. The backdrops, supporting characters, and so on all match with the song. So when you're singing "Luck be a Lady" you've got men in suits on a large casino board, while when you're doing "Aquarius" you get hippy people with peace signs. It helps to draw you into each song more than a generic background would.

Where many games are now going towards realistic moves, which I vastly prefer, this one still has the robotic-cartoons which is far less immersive. It's harder to follow along with a robot, and the robot's moves tend to look jerky and unnatural.

Also, where most games give you a wealth of songs and you can choose your favorites to play with, here it's an extremely forced order. You have to play the first four songs whether you like them or not. And then you have to pass a test with the fifth song. That's the only way to progress. I'm not a fan of dance songs that force this type of order on you. Dancing is about fun and exercise, and we players should be able to do whichever ones we want.

But by far the worst part here is the versions of the songs they present. I know and adore many of these songs. But when I hear their version of "Luck be a Lady" or "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" they fall quite flat. It would be like getting a dance game that claimed to have all my favorite rock songs on it, but then they were played by a cover band that lacked the energy.

What they need to do is come out with a new version of this. Incorporate the real-body technology that most of my favorite dance games are using, so the moves feel natural and real. Most of all get the rights to the best versions of these songs. That will really be the key for me. The dance games I have that I play for hours a day are the ones with the songs I adore. If this one got their hands on those great song versions, I could see enjoying this.

Rating: 3/5

I purchased this game with my own funds in order to write this review.

I've had the pleasure of playing this at a friend's house a few times and I must say this is a great game if you're like me and love dancing and Broadway musicals. There's a decent selection of songs that range from easier to harder and most of the songs have two different parts you can dance to. This makes it a great game to play with friends.

I found it easy to learn the different moves for each song by mimicking the characters on the screen and a sidebar shows you which moves are coming up so you can get ready to switch.

The only downside is that you really need two move controllers per person so it can get a little pricey if you don't already have four controllers ready to go.

This is definitely one of the better Dance games so far out on the PS3 Move. It's a blast for the whole family. It's also a great workout. I recommend this to anyone that is a fan of the Just Dance games and of Broadway musicals. The soundtrack is Superb.

I really like this game, it's a pretty decent workout and good songs. I'm still getting the hang of using the controllers, but you really need two to fully get into the game. I hope that Sony puts out an expansion pack for this, it would be awesome to add to it in the future like Rock Band.

We bought this cord so we could move the PS3 from my son's room to the family room without having to disconnect the cord behind his TV stand and then our TV wall unit, where we use it to watch BluRay HD movies...now we have one at each location (with a HDMI cable as well). It fit the PS3 just fine and powers it perfectly...and all for about $5 or $6....much less expensive than a Sony brand cord.

Works great especially since the ps3 has wireless internet access. Cable is identical to the one on the ps3 ( mine is the older full size unit, not the newer small size-may work on it as well). *ANOTHER UPDATE AS OF: 14/4/11 : INFO ABOUT A NEW PATCH RELEASED AT THE BOTTOM*

(Disclaimer: There are people who like short reviews and dislike long reviews, and vice versa. So I'll just say something simple, and if you want to keep reading, read pass the line.)

After playing this for 2 days, I realized it was really quite a good game! The online play isn't laggy for the most part, and when it is, it's still kind of easy to keep up! It's fun and addictive, and it makes me feel like I'm really playing a Tennis match! And the AI is great, they don't just stand there and watch the ball go by (though, I do play on Hard). So this is actually worth the $60 to buy, I'm glad I bought it and will be playing for a while!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Tennis experience really has given me something new. After playing Virtua Tennis 2009 ( I know there really is no comparison, because they are 2 very different games ),and playing this, I feel so much better playing this. With the inability to hit Forced/Unforced errors on VT, it really made me upset. But on Top Spin 4, if you make it to a ball at a wrong time, then try to lob it as well, you'll end up getting some kind of error! I never played Top Spin 3, so I can't say what is or isn't better about this one, but I did play the demo. I didn't like the demo anymore after playing this... The controls were to light and it didn't feel like I was controlling my character. But on Top Spin 4, it's completely different.

The controls are nice, however, they are, at many times, clunky. I like how if you're running right and the ball is coming left, and you have to stop with the momentum and try to catch it, it's really nice. But even though they are nice, it kind of still feels like I'm not controlling my character. I really don't even know, because sometimes if I just push the left analog stick in the direction of the ball, it seems like the character will run to the ball and get in position all by their selves. And it really makes it seem like all you, as a player, are doing within this game is aiming a ball.

My problem is this, when I accept the fact that the character automatically runs to the ball, that's when he/she stops doing that. With serves, I just try to start aiming, but the ball goes right past you. It's not even Ace-quality, your character will simply just not move or get into position. It's really frustrating to see a ball go right passed you, and all you're doing is standing there.

That's my main annoyance with the game, but other than that it's great. There are 25 playable characters,

The players look like themselves for the most part. What ruins them is their expression. It seems 2k Sports just put random expressions on the character for no reason, they smile and laugh, but do they really do that in a real Tennis match? At least not as much as they do in the game! So it kind of messes the characters up, in terms of looks. I'm not too familiar with how all of their real-life counterparts play, but the few that I do know seem to be replicated well enough.

This game has a nice array of modes:

OFFLINE:

Career Mode Create a player and get to work. You start in the Professional circuit, not amateur, but you still won't be playing the top ranked seeds anytime soon. The best part about this is

that you can, at any time, change the gameplay format. (You can choose whether you want to play tie breaker matches in tournaments, 3 games/3 set matches, or Real Tennis:

Best 2 out of 3/ 3 out of 5. And you can change it at anytime through Options while you're in this mode.

Exhibition Choose your settings, player, and court, and start playing.

King of the Court Pick 4 players, 1 for you, and 3 computers (or 3 other players in your house) and each round, the first player to get 3 points wins. The winner moves on to the next player,

and the loser loses. Whoever wins 5 matches(3 points) wins the game

Top Spin Academy Learn how to play Top Spin 4, with instructions on how to hit certain types of balls, etc.

ONLINE:

Player Match Online version of Exhibition. Pick your character, create a match/join a match.

World Tour The online equivalent of the offline Career. Create a character and play against other people as you rise in the ranks.

2k Open Like World Tour, only you play with a Pro instead of a created character. The ranks go like this. You, the character, can be ranked #1/#2/#3 if a lot of people earn a lot of

points playing that character. So their ranks are totaled up with all the points people have gained by playing with them. And you also have a separate rank for the player (you)

themselves. If I have a total of 500 2k Points, and the next guy has 400, it means I'm the highest. You get points by playing matches. So you have 2 ranks, your Characters rank,

and your rank.

The customization is quite unique, it's pretty in-depth, even though you can't make someone look EXACTLY how you want, you can make them look nice. There's a wide array of clothing/accessories to choose from. Imagine my shock when I (in real life) just bought Adidas Barricade 6 tennis shoes, and then found them on this game! They have real clothes from Adidas, Nike, Fila, and more! And you can unlock more and more by participating in tournaments sponsored by that brand. (Not sure if this works for World Tour, but it does in Career).

You can hire coaches which give you special bonuses (Said coach might give you +4 Power/Forehand skills if you complete their objective / other might give you more XPs for hitting passing baseline strokes). XPs is like EXP, you get it after matches. And with it, you can upgrade your character through 3 fields: Serve and Volley, Offensive Baseline Play, and Defensive Baseline Play. Every time you upgrade one of the styles, the XPs cost to upgrade either style goes up. And also, your characters have levels. 20 being the max, all pros start from this level, and all created characters start at Lv.1

This is a really nice game, and though the movement is clunky n' chunky, it still has a nice and smooth gameplay, with no lag (screen or connection) as far as I've come across.

PROS:

*Smooth, Easy-to-learn Game play

*Rather nice Character Customization

*Online play isn't laggy at all (when it is laggy, the screen just pauses for a few seconds, and then starts back. So if it is laggy, you still have a chance at hitting the ball back)

*Pretty environments, and a great selection of Tennis courts. (I like how they have even the minor tournament courts, even one that's located near me!

*That there aren't many cons, and the few that are there aren't game-changing.

*Overall it's worth buying, and it's really fun and engaging

CONS:

*Clunky movements even though realistic, it's still annoying when a ball comes right passed you and your character doesn't respond to any button.

*Can't play Doubles matches online. (You can, but it's only 2 controllers from your house, 2 controllers from their house. You can't play with a partner that's located somewhere else, only with

a partner that's sitting right next to you!)

That's pretty much it.

I enjoy this game greatly and am glad I bought it. I hope you enjoy it as well!

*EDIT*

I also forgot to add, this is one of the CONS to me, but, it's the fact that being a Tennis game, the Tennis Players have so many different styles of play, yet during character creation, you can only choose 2 stances (2 or 3, I forgot). But being such a few amount of different styles, all the created characters will ultimately end up looking exactly the same when they hit. I thought this was a very bad thing for 2k to do, I would have loved a bigger variety in different character poses and postures. But it failed big time on that part.

*PATCH UPDATE*

They released a patch that...well, the description wasn't that easy to understand; something about they tweaked some of the Player Skills like Power Serves or, different skills I believe. But the main part of the update was that they incorporated the D-Pad (Directional pad:left side of controller) to be able to use to move with, instead of just the analog stick..

Also, something unannounced, but I seemed to notice, is that the controls don't seem AS clunky anymore. I was still unable to hit a few easy shots due to this, but it seemed to happen less frequently after the patch!

Here's the thing. You're going along with your created character playing in career mode, wondering why they made it so ridiculously easy. Seriously, you basically just have to suffer your way through a bunch of insanely easy matches, waiting to unlock the big tournaments so you can go and play in those. So, you enter a major tournament--let's say the Australian open. And again, the first few rounds are ridiculously easy. Rafael Nadal? He's got nothing on you. Federer? Feh. But then, you get to the semi-finals. And all of a sudden, whoever you're playing channels their inner Clark Kent. You hit a winner into the corner? Nope, they've managed to run about 40 feet in half a second, and somehow hit it cross-court at full power, with all their momentum carrying them away from the ball, and no energy left. You manage to get to the ball, time everything right and... your player hits the ball well past the baseline for really no reason whatsoever.

Basically, this game could be a good tennis sim, and instead it seems like it was programmed by someone who never bothered to play it. The difficulty goes from four year-old to Zeus with nothing in between, and it's just not fun. You're either destroying your opponent, feeling bored, or you're destroying your controller, feeling furious. A good game should be challenging, but beatable. This game is neither. I quite literally go from shutting out my opponent in the quarter-finals (sometimes without losing a single point) to getting shut out in the semis.

Also, a secondary point given how terrible the difficulty settings are, but the career mode has some ridiculous design flaws. Rather than develop individual skills (e.g. forehand, backhand, serve) as in most comparable games, you're forced to develop styles (offensive baseline, defensive baseline, or serve & volley), which require specific point allocations. I really like the style idea as an alternative if you don't want to deal with every single point, or for people who know less about the sport. But seriously, give me the option. Furthermore, the game gives you 20 opportunities to upgrade your created player, and that's it. You can't keep going until you have a super-player, as in most games, which I don't necessarily mind. But you can't even keep going until you're more than say the fifth or sixth best player (attributes-wise) in the game. So you very quickly reach a point where there's no incentive to keep playing--your player can't get any better and the computer is impossible to beat.

I almost never review products on Amazon, but I'm taking the time to review this one. Seriously, save your 30 bucks, or at least wait until they fix the difficulty settings. They defeat the purpose of the game.

First thing first, this game is not designed for move and if you play it only using move controllers you will be greatly disappointed. Lucky I am nowhere close to a casual player so I enjoyed playing this game almost like how I enjoy playing real tennis. I liked top spin 3 and this new installment just blew that one away with excellent graphics and gameplay controls. I am a 4.5 tennis player and spend averagely 6-10 hours every week playing outdoor tennis. Top spin 4 is the closest thing to the real tennis. The online world tour mode is a blast and you feel you are really playing the grand slam matches. Give it some time before you really master the game play and you will be happy about what you see. I noticed some sound glitches during the game (it happened a few times when the sound become broken and after I reset the game the problem fixed itself), but this does not hold back the fact that this is by far the most enjoyable tennis game I have played.

Though I don't consider myself a gamer, I do consider myself a tennis aficionado and was pleasantly surprised that Top Spin 4 was released. I have Top Spin 3 and this is probably the game I play(ed) the most on my PS3. I grew up on the original Nintendo and Atari games so too many controls freak me out and though it took a minute to get used to the buttons and timing in TS3, I feel the controls are mainly the same (a few noticeable differences noted below) for TS4 and didn't have any trouble at all getting right into it using the dual shock controller. This review will compare TS4 to TS3 when possible.

After playing a bit more than 30 hours of Normal mode in TS4, I find that it equates to the Easy mode in TS3. I have only played Normal in TS4 and mainly in Career mode though Exhibition mode is great and with a diverse set of characters much deeper than TS3.

Pros and Changes:

Environment: The graphics are amazing and I feel improved upon the already goodness that TS3 possessed. The characters have great movement and when the racket hits the ball, the sound is extremely realistic.

More Immediate Character Options: When first creating a character in career mode, there are now more immediate clothing options available. TS4 no longer uses money to purchase items so new characters have more clothing, shoe, and racket choices up front. The longer you play the more clothing options and brands you receive. Still not quite sure why you would want to dress your character in a jacket and long pants for a match though.

Leveling: In TS4, the goal is to get your character to level 20 by earning experience playing matches and doing special events. Your character will have several different rankings while you play: top spin ranking (real-life ratings), season rankings (ranking during the calendar year), and fan base ranking (how many fans you have). Each month, instead of only being able to play one tournament, as in TS3, you can now do two types of activities each month: one tournament and one special event. These events include corporate challenges (to gain more clothing), exhibition matches (experience and fans), and various other choices to gain experience and fans. For some reason, you still gain experience after level 20 not sure why. When leveling your character, you have 3 areas to spend your experience on: serve and volley, offense, and/or defense. These 3 will then upgrade the corresponding categories (forehand, backhand, serve, stamina, etc) you actually incremented yourself in TS3. I really like the new TS4 approach because it simplifies the leveling process. One tip if you level up while playing a tournament, wait until after the tournament is done versus right after your match. I've found that if you level up during the tournament, the next match is a bit more challenging.

Coaching: When playing characters in career mode, you are now able to hire bronze, silver, and gold coaches. I like this new type of feature because the coach will give goals that you have to meet during a match (tournament or exhibition). Once the goals are complete, bonuses will be applied to your character's skills. It definitely helps you get used to certain shots through repetition: do 20 drop shots or do 30 top spin serves or do 15 inside out winners. The coaches that are available are dependent upon the style of play you want your character to have.

Play: The game play is very realistic and I like this the most. The play alone deserves 5 out of 5 stars. It allows you to actually play tennis like a chess match by outwitting the opponent the way tennis is actually played (moving your opponent off the court, lobbing when they come to net, serving to their backhand, etc.). TS4 has also added timing for your shot. When you hit the ball, you will see 1 of 4 different messages: too late, too soon, good, or perfect. I thought this would be distracting, but actually felt it helpful to get the timing right for the power shot, control shot, or normal shot. Executing the drop shot (R2 and square button) and the lob (triangle button) are different than in TS3. In TS4, I haven't quite figured out the full serving functionality though I can serve top spin, flat, back spin, or a hard serve, but I haven't figured out how to serve a hard top spin, a hard flat, or a hard back spin as I could in TS3.

Cons:

Long load times: the long load times are sometimes frustrating, especially if all you want to do is keep playing matches.

Freeze: Probably the worst con I've only played about 30 hours and already the game has frozen on me twice. Both times I've had to turn the PS3 off to get it to restart. When I get it back on, my character in career mode has kept the level they had right before the crash, but all matches that I've played have been lost so I had to start all over from the last save. I'm taking 1/2 a star off for this because if I'm paying $60 for a game, it should not crash.

Rankings: When playing in career mode, I've noticed the Top Spin rankings from the other players don't always add up. I noticed this after playing in the Dublin Open (TS' version of Wimbledon). I was #5, Roger was #1, and Rafa was #2. I lost to Roger in the semi-finals (see below) and Roger beat Rafa in the finals. After the month was over and the new rankings came out, Roger fell 2 spots to #3 (even though he won) and Rafa went up to #1 (even though he lost). I'm not quite sure how this happened and though it's just a small part, I have to take 1/2 star because it's such a simple thing that should be fixed. This has happened with different characters that I've played so I know it wasn't a fluke and sort of removes the realism.

Grand slam hardness: I realize that in real life, Grand Slams are harder and that the players play with more dedication. So, in TS4 (as in TS3) I think it's fair that the Grand Slams do become harder, BUT this is a bit ridiculous. All is going well until the semifinals and then the game goes from Normal play to Impossible play. You know you're going to have a hard time when the opponent starts serving harder then it gets almost impossible to beat the player. No matter how good your shot is, the opponent will get to it and most likely hit a winner even when his stamina has been drained. I wouldn't mind if the game goes up to Hard from Normal, but going to Impossible (and unrealistic) makes for a frustrating first few outings in the Grand Slams. I have to take 1/2 star off for this to because of the severity of the jump in hardness. Especially since I can beat these players easily in the other tournaments.

In conclusion, I really enjoy this new version and love the versatility of the shots and the creation of your own character, including the face morphology, options, and new menus. I give the game play a 5 out of 5, but overall 3.5 out of 5 stars due to a few cons.

Want Top Spin 4 Discount?

As a descendant of the "Best tennis simulation game", Top Spin 4 is well made and it won't disappoint those who enjoyed the series. Here however I'll focus on sharing my experience on playing the game with PS Move, as there're already sufficient reviews about other aspects of the game, and the PS Move part is really starting pissing me off.

Playing this game with a Move controller and navigator is completely new so I went to the training sessions to get started. It felt interesting at first I swung my arm and I did hit the ball! And I began thinking that I can play it like in the really world. But soon I found out it was so NOT realistic especially when you serve the ball.

I don't know if other players have got the same frustrating problems as I do in the serve training session, but it was really miserable for me. Start with the "normal serve", well if you do this as you do in the real world, you may never pass this session you raise your arm and pong! you performed a power serve! And it kept telling you to do a normal serve! It took me a while to figure out that you can just shake your hands to pass this session. I passed the "power serve" session easily and ahhhh! the "top spin serve". Can you imagine spending more than an hour swinging the controller in almost every way you can think of and you still cannot perform a correct top spin serve? Yeah, that's what I did. What exactly is "prepare backward and downward, and swing forward and upward"?! One serious problem is that if you follow your moves as you do in the really world, the controller can easily be blocked by your own body or reach out of sight of the camera! And once it fails to keep track of your move controller, your moves afterwards will be automatically ignored, and you'll never perform a right move! While sometimes your move will be recognized as some kind of signal and it will do the serve before you do! Plus it is really frustrating when your trainer shouts out like "Really?" "Come on!" each time you fail. Somehow I got lucky and passed the serve training session with some awkward and ridiculous postures and I felt so exhausted it's only part of the "basic" training!

It really feels not so good that you have to act in a way that the machine have you to do instead of the way you want it, the natural way. Returning balls basically works with simple swings with the move controller, but it hardly works accurately. It feels like the machine is trying to recognize some kind of patterns from your moves and translate them into signals to make the move rather than tracking your real moves. Maybe that's because the game has a mature and well made system using buttons to control the moves and they intended to take advantage of it when they added the PS Move feature to the game, but unfortunately they screwed it up.

To sum up, basically you can play it with PS Move. It's kind of interesting, but you can't expect much of it. It will be really amazing if someone can master the game with PS Move. Don't take it seriously, take it for fun. If you want to play it in a hardcore way, go with the old fashioned controller. As for other parts of the game, as I said, you like the series and you'll like it.

I was very excited to see the NFL faceplates made for the PS3 but very disappointed in the way this fit over the controller. Installation is very easy as it just snaps on the pad. Once the faceplate is snapped on, it covers the spaces between the circle, square, triangle and X buttons as well as the D-pad leaving it very difficult to push the buttons down. Having this faceplate on the control pad makes it very uncomfortable and a hassle when playing a game. I have already sent mine back to Amazon.

Raises the surface of the controller slightly especailly the D-pad. After a short time I got use to it, although if you are playing games that require alot of use of the D-pad you will probably find some accuracy issues especailly with the diagonal direction's ie; selecting weapons etc. Price tag needs to come down a bit, enough said. I have had no problems with the plate popping off, now if you abuse your controller you might. I have had no other problems with this product, use it every day, if you have to have a face plate of your favorite team (which I did lol) I can recommend this. Hope this helps.

Overall great controller. The controller works well. I got this controller as a second controller for my ps3. It is comfortable to use and works well for the purpose. If you are looking for a good wired controller I would recomend this one.

My son and I inadvertently switch between this MadCatz PS3 Wired Gamepad Controller and the Sony wireless one that came with the PS3. To us they are exactly the same, except of course that one is wireless and the other isn't. But that is what I wanted, something less expensive but the next best thing. The USB cable on the controller is a couple of inches over 8 feet, but that is fine we sit within this distance anyway. If I wanted to sit further I would just use a standard USB extension cable. I also like this controller because it is a direct USB connection to the PS3. It also has good vibration.

I four star rating is very accurate.

The controller isn't cheap, or cheaper than the ps3 remote.

it works well but the home button has many issues,

1. can't turn on the console

2. when you press it to access the home screen you can't press it again to turn off the home-screen.

Its just as sturdy as the ps3 remote, and although it feels different, its still easy to just pick up.

The controller can be a little over sensitive though but I really do recommend it as a back up controller

for which I bought it.

I been playing Armored Core since sony gave birth to PS1. not a hardcore fan, just following my own tradition of games, same goes for ACE COMBAT and RE(Resident Evil) enough with that.

5 stars I was very stunned after playing this game for about an hour.

CUSTOMIZE Customization of your Mech is very detailed, every aspec of equipment you add to your mech required little though of making sure that its stable. which means if you carry a heavy right side shoulder weapon, it would be in your best interest to even the weight by adding a heavy left arm weapon, left shoulder weapon, or add a stabilizer would greatly improve the balance of your mech.

STORY at the begining of the game your a mercenary mech pilot. you need to pick one out of four companies that will determine which mech you will be using. NOTE*(you will be able to pick whatever mech suits your style later thru the game.)

MISSIONS depending on which mission you take and accomplished reveals your role thru the game either for "lets abandon the earth later" team or for "lets stop them from living in the sky" team.

BOSS BATTLE Monstrous bosses, most of the boss are 5,000 times larger than your mech. With that said, you mostly like need to detroy a certain area of the slow moving monster to accomplish the mission. some are not so easy to do, coz they can obliterate your mech in just 3 or 4 hits. strategy is a definite key to success.

RANKING Your not a super skilled pilot, so you start out as a nobody thru the story mode, Ranking battle is a ladder from ranked 30(lowest) to 1(best) and if you play the role of "lets stop them from living in the sky." you will be introduce to another ranking battle from 12 to 1. I can't quite remember. after beating each one of them you will be granted with money and scheme(blue prints) of their mech. dont get your hopes up yet because that only means that you can make mech out of the scheme if you have the right parts or if they are for sale in the shop. play the game some more to unlock parts.

ONLINE CO-OP/ MULTIPLAYER I haven't played online yet, but I heard you can exchange scheme(blue prints) play most of the story mission, or destroy your friend's hope that his mech is the best by slashing him three times.

ADDTIONAL INFO I suggest you customize your mech for different type mission, boss battle, or ranking battles and save your scheme so you won't spend 20 minutes customizing everytime. I hope this helps

Chances are that if you are reading this then you have played an Armored Core game sometime in your life and it is equally likely that Armored Core 4 was not your first experience with the series. Armored Core has always been easy to understand, frustrating to learn and difficult to master. But, above all, Armored Core has always been rewarding to play. The core concept of every Armored Core game is basictake missions, get paid, buy parts and repeat. As simplistic as this concept is it is truly the challenge, execution of concepts and mechanics of play that makes each game worth picking up. Armored Core: For Answer certainly delivers. AC: FA not only takes the world that was introduced in Armored Core 4 and expounds upon it but also introduces more fluid control response and many new features.

AC: 4A not only offers veterans of the series a bit of hope for the future and a good bit of challenge; it also offers new comers to the series a good place to start. The Vanguard Overboost adds a fun little mini-game-esque feature, and yet manages to avoid being trite by only being present in a few missions. The addition of Cooperative play makes for a whole new level of game play. In the past, the only multiplayer feature available for Armored Core was AC VS. AC arena matches. The only exception is AC2: Another Agebut even the very few co-op missions in that game were "co-opetition" normally ending with the best pilot standing. Having a true Co-Op feature in AC:FA means not only can two experienced friends play together for fun, but a less experienced person can enlist the help of someone else in order to complete a difficult mission. This obviously could help eliminate some of the frustration that newer players may experience when they get stuck on a level. One cannot, however, join a co-op mission that you have not unlocked. This prevents players from jumping ahead of the game.

AC:FA contains 45 mission40 of which are co-op enabled. The remaining five non co-op enable levels are decisive missions that directly affect the ending you will receive. In addition to the new co-op feature AC:FA also has the ever faithful versuswith up to 8 player support. Modes such as defeat all, defeat leader, and destroy objective breathe new life and grant added interest into the classic one on one AC matches of old. Also, the new Assault Armor makes multiplayer matches even more frantic than ever before.

As for the core game conceptsstory, graphics, controls, concept, and replay factor, AC:FA follows the tradition with most games of the Armored Core series. AC:4A presents a story that is patchy at best. However, the silent protagonist (or antagonist depending on the path you choose) that you play as is a mercenary and one has to think "would a mercenary really fully understand or care about what is going on around them"? You do missions for moneysimple enough. The game presents to you a general idea of what companies do and do not get along with one another as well as who some of the major players are and what part you play in the fate of the world when the resolution has been met. Graphically, FromSoftware follows tradition again by delivering unparalleled, stunning pre-rendered CGI movies. However, the in-game graphic rendering is just a slight mark above the industry's middle ground. Thankfully though, this is an improvement to AC4 where surroundings were very drab and borderline monochromatic. The sound in AC:FA is also an improvement from AC4especially the music. As aforementioned, the controls of AC:FA are a lot more responsive and fluid than AC4 which makes it much easier to play even without having to set a custom control scheme; a feature that is available if you would like to completely remap the controlleralways a plus. The concept of AC:FA is classic Armored Coretake missions, buy parts, make a better AC, repeat. The real joy and replay factor comes in the form of clearing the AI arena and achieving S rank on all missions on both difficulty levels. Doing so grants you more parts and other tuning adjustments to make your AC better. Playing with, or against, a friend always provides replay factor to a game. So, if you like Armored Core and your friend likes Armored Core you will both most likely be playing this game with each other quite a few times. Plus, for the very determined, there is the online arena ranking to conquer.

As for Playstation 3 specific enhancementsAC:FA fails to deliver for the most part. Playstation trophies are not supported (however, Xbox 360 Achievements are available in the Xbox 360 version) neither is custom music. These features were introduced to the PS3 after AC:FA was released in Japan so that most likely is the presiding factor for this. An improvement for the PS3 version of the game is the inclusion of voice chat. This feature was unavailable for the PS3 version of Armored Core 4.

Overall, Armored Core: For Answer is a very good game for those that enjoy the series or for those that are looking for a game that features tons of customization, a decent amount of on-line functionality, and a lot of large scale destruction.

First of all this is not going to be an in depth review. OK, I never liked any of the other armored core series. There were too many buttons to remember. However I loved this one. You can configure what each button does as well as what each thumb stick does with the key assign option. When you start the game you have 4 companies to choose from. The one you pick decides your starting NEXT(Mech). Within these 4 companies are 42 missions. When you start with your company you are presented 3 missions (after you complete the basic mission). From what I have seen sometimes when you finish a mission you lose the chance to play the other missions. Meaning you would have to go back and play through in order to beat those levels. NEXTs can be customized with paint jobs, weapons, stabilizers, etc. Basically there is a lot of customization options in here for the units. Almost everything in the game can be destroyed and the controls work really well, very fluid. AI can be very hard at times but that is in the later levels where they expect you to be better. Besides doing missions you can also climb the arena ladder to become the No. 1 NEXT pilot which grants you money/NEXT blueprints to make an exact copy of the opponent you defeated. I haven't tried the online matches yet, however, there is 2 player online co-op. To play certain levels in co-op either you or your buddy has to have completed it already. Also, there is at least one level that I know of that you can't play in co-op (I think its because its story related). In conclusion, this is a great game. When I first got it I played for 4 hours straight. Really fun and addicting.

Armored Core is a long running series by FROM Software, often criticized for its lack of change over the years. How accurate this criticism really is likely depends on who you're asking, but to be fair, it is true the basic premise of any AC game is the same: Build a giant robot, blow stuff up for money, use the money to further build your giant robot. Suffice to say if you're interested in an Armored Core title, you're probably interested in tinkering, and blowing things up with a giant robot, or in this case, an Armored Core NEXT.

For starters, lets talk about what's new here. Now, personally, the last Armored Core game I played was that of AC3, and I skipped over Silent Line and 4. Quite a bit is different in this incarnation of the series, but personally, I find almost every change to be a good thing. Gone are the Ravens of AC2 and 3, the mercenaries are now known as Lynx. The bizarre sci-fi plot-lines are toned down in favor of a greater emphasis on politics. Most of all, though, the slower pacing of the older AC titles has been completely altered thanks to a few select additions to how your Core controls, primarily, Quick Boosting.

Armored Core has always had a somewhat arcade feel to its missions, but it's also been a little slower in the past. With AC:FA, your Core can fly about with easy, rapidly boost across the field, and still have enough energy to launch a barrage of energy weapon fire. Your normal boosting will likely not even phase your energy bar, leaving most of your energy consumption to the newer Quick Boosting, which allows for an instant dash in a specified direction, or even a rapid turn, something which required a shoulder part in the past. Some, like myself, really like this heightened feel of speed and the depth of the system through what has come to be called "Quick Boost Chaining" or "Cancelling" allowing you to rapidly string together several boosts to avoid a lot of enemy fire, while closing in on a target. Still, there are some older fans of the series that dislike the shift, feeling that it's too action oriented and lost some of the tactical presentation of the past. It's a rather odd split, and one fans may wish to be aware of, but if you're new to the series, this likely wont bother you in the least.

What's also new here, is online Co-Op. Most missions in AC:FA allow you to co-op with others, be it friend, or complete stranger. You can set up a lobby for a select mission, invite others to join, or leave it open to whoever comes across it. Once in the mission, you'll be working together with your partner to clear the level. This does tend to make missions easier since you have two players working to clear the level, but it's also a lot of fun to team up with friends. It's a first in the AC series, but it's also a really solid addition. Though, if you're feeling more competitive, you can also take your AC into online versus to battle it out with other players. It should be noted that co-op is online only, but versus can be done locally, as well as online.

The story of the game, as with any AC title, is very fragmented. In order to get into the true depth of the plot, you'll have to explore almost every ending, and try to complete as many of the 42 missions as possible. This is one detail you may enjoy, or dislike. On the one hand, it would be nice to see a more explored plot-line, but on the other, you're a mercenary, and this style of storytelling is fitting of your role within the plot. There are plenty of missions, with a nice amount of diversity to go through, each giving a nice bit of briefing before hand, and there are several forks you can take to shift the direction of the story, or rather, the direction you take within the story adding to the replay value. If that's not quite enough for you, AC:FA does keep the classic Arena, or in this case, Order Matches, allowing you to battle against a single AC for money, and ranking. As you work up in the ranks, you'll be awarded more money, and possibly even parts from your defeated foes, allowing for further customization of your AC.

Speaking of customization, there is enough here to make you dizzy. In true AC tradition, you can fine tune almost every aspect of your Core. Legs, arms, body, head, arm weapons, shoulder weapons, back weapons, main boosters, side boosters, generators, FCS units, and even stabilizers. If there is a part of your Core that changes its performance, you can tweak it. There are some things in the older games that aren't present here, such as cooling devices as you'll no longer have to worry about overheating, but all in all there are a ton of options. You can make anything from a hover-tank with twin grenade launchers, to a lightweight, bipedal robot with dual arm blades, and everything in between. If that's not enough, the paint and decals are also heavily customizable. You can color your AC just about any way you please, create custom decals and slap them all over, and do just about anything to get a Core looking exactly how you want it too. If you're a fan of tweaking, you wont be disappointed here. If, however, you'd rather just get into the action, you can use any number of designs you'll acquire throughout the game to do the assembly for you. Still, if you're not into tweaking, there's a good chunk of this game you'll completely miss out on, because tweaking is one of the central elements of the AC series.

So what is wrong with this game? Well is carries the same flaws as most of the series. The visuals for the Cores, Arms Forts, and various mechs in the game are great, but the environments leave a lot to be desired. The various forms of destruction you can cause do look good, but when you're just blowing up a building in an otherwise empty sand field, there's certainly something missing. The difficulty is also very erratic, causing you to struggle with one mission, only to breeze through another, and this even carries over into the Arena matches. If you'd prefer a more traditional learning curve, this will definitely put a few dents in the experience. I wouldn't consider these faults to be a game breaking experience, but they are worth taking note of.

All in all this is probably my favorite out of all the Armored Core games I've played. A single play through the story will clock in around ten hours, but with multiple endings, Hard mode, and all the various parts to collect there is a lot of replay value. Not to mention the online mechanics adding to experience. Unfortunately, being such a niche title, it can sometimes be difficult to find other players online, but if you get a friend to pick it up as well, that should easily be resolved. It's not perfect, but if you're looking to cause some chaos with a giant robot that you've spent hours tweaking, and customizing to your designs, then you'll find plenty of fun with Armored Core: For Answer.

I'm definitely more of a casual gamer but love fighting robot games. And this is my first Armored Core title. The gameplay is fun but definitely a bit challenging for a newbie player. There are a lot of controls and options that you've got to learn about. The controls are a little bit overwhelming but grow on you. Not only that but you can completely customize them to your liking. Not to mention you can completely customize your mech. I found that I was spending a lot of time playing around with the mech and not shooting things.

Missions even on the basic levels I found a bit challenging. Partially because I'm new to the controls and the game. Partially because some things are coming at you really fast and if you don't jet boost to the sides a lot, you're going to take a shot from a huge cannon. Definitely fun but a challenge as I got to later levels. The robots are huge and you get to blow up some really huge weapons platforms. I'm not sure that this game is for everyone however. While it's fun, it's definitely for someone who wants to pilot a mech and dodge a whole lot of incoming fire blowing up stuff at the same time.

Don't listen to the haters, this is an amazing game. I ride dirtbikes in real life and have played every Mx game since ATV Offroad Fury on the PS2. People are bashing this game, saying that it is impossible to control when in reality, the Reflex system adds a whole new dimension. Think about it, if you threw your leg over a motorcycle in real life, would you be racing at a pro level in 5 minutes? NO. The learning curve is steeper than it has been in the past, but once you get the hang of the new controls, you will find that the motorcycle actually behaves alot more like it's real world counterpart. This challenge makes it feel that much better when you nail a long rhythm section in a supercross race, or rail a freshly dug berm in a national. There are fewer tracks and freeride areas than in previous games, but the thought and time that went into these aspects are mindblowing. The terrain deformation is AWESOME, its so much more realistic that as a race goes on, lines in the track change, it keeps you on your toes. My only real complaint is that there is a pretty heavy emphasis on winning truck and buggy races, which is an obvious attempt to bring in some of the Motorstorm / Dirt fans. Rainbow should lose this stuff for the next version and put all their focus onto perfecting MX/ATV racing. Overall, it is a game that I will playing and perfecting for a long time, and it will only get better when downloadable tracks become available. Don't buy into the people that hate this game, they just have short attention spans and need immediate gratification. If you guys like the last game so much, you should keep playing that while the rest of us move into the future of MX racing games.

When I first popped this game in, I was amazed and played for several hours at a stretch. I was happily carving around on my tricked-out KTM, enjoying the races and jumps, free-rides, and everything else.

After a couple of days, you begin to see there's not a lot there. There aren't many tracks. There's no semblance of an official racing series or a real "career" mode.

Only KTM bikes have been licensed for the game. There are other bikes bearing the distinctive color schemes of other manufacturers, but they have made-up names.

The customization and tuning of the bikes is very simplistic. You simply tune the bike on a sliding scale between hard/soft suspension, acceleration/top speed, soft/sticky tires. The custom parts you can buy mean little they all have the same values and do the same things, except for the look.

To complete the game you are forced to use buggies, sport trucks, etc. The choices for these vehicles are very limited and these events are uninteresting. Like most people I was only interested in the MX aspect of the game.

Another major annoyance is the frequency with which the computer riders will crash into you and knock you down. It happens far too often that you'll just be running your race and a computer rider comes from nowhere and crashes into you at speed that would cause very serious injury. Due to the lack of realism, you can still win the race often times even with a few crashes.

Next time: give us meaningful customization and tuning, make the rear tire look like it actually spins when you ride, and give us a meaningful career mode instead of the glorified string of single races.

I'd give this one 2 stars out of 5. If you play the demo, you've essentially played the whole game.

This was the greatest gift I gave this year! My husband has really enjoyed it. Loves the graphics and how realistic it is. Way better than the game before this one!

I ordered this game for PS3 and received an XBox copy. I had to call Amazon and send it back. I ordered it again hopping it was a mix up and the second time I got another Xbox copy of the game. It's very inconvenient as I live in Japan and it takes awhile to get here, even with Prime membership. I don't know who is to blame for this crap, Amazon or Isogamer, either way, save yourself the frustration if you're looking for the game on PS3

This is the official PS3 controller glove from SONY. You won't find this for sale that much longer here on Amazon.com and will have alot of difficulty buying it else where. IMO it is a good protector for the ps3 controller from your average usage. I was getting tired cleaning my controller every so often do to smudging the controller or oils or dry skin from your hands etc. I believe it is made of silicone so it is smooth but not slick. However not sure if it will improve your grip of the controller and thus improve gaming scores etc. This doesnt have molded gripping on it nor will it cushion your hands more. I am satisfied with the purchase as I didnt have to pay very much for it and it shipped fast with the seller I used. Be patient with applying it to your controller for the first time as it does have sensitive peices and you don't want to rip it. I suggest putting it on one side at a time. If your not satisfied with this product you can always remove it as it is non-stick/removable surface.

First off, I am by no means a racing game enthusiast, actually it's the complete opposite. Honestly the only racing game I've played and truly enjoyed as of late has been Mario Kart Wii, which is a blast by the way. I've purchased Split/Second after hearing the premise of the game, I thought it sounded really interesting and very unique. Looking back I'm very happy I took a chance on this title, I wasn't let down at all and have been really enjoying it.

Once you play this game and understand what it's trying to do you will come to the conclusion as I have that the "cons" are what makes this game different than most other racing game out there. "Rubber banding" is necessary to play the game as it was intended to be played. Consider this, if you were able to break out in first place and never have to look back it takes away from some of the main points of this game which is to cause destruction and to trigger traps on your opponets. Besides, if you can't pass the car in front of you do the next best thing, which is to drop a plane on him! Also, a lot of people complain about "drifting", which I must agree there is a lot of, however there are many other ways to fill up your power meter like "drafting" which in my opinion is the easier way to play. My final point is in regard to the lack of customization as far as the cars are concerned, again this is not what this game is about so if that is what you're looking for invest in a different title. This game is not about the cars (as strange as that is to say) it's about the havoc you can cause and to what extent you can cause it.

I hope my review has been helpful to you and thanks for reading, sorry for being long winded LOL. If you like to play games for fun, and not take things too seriously look me up, my PSN ID is MikeJMele.

Big Surprise from Disney! The last 2 reviewers compared it to Pure. I bought Pure after playing the demo, and actually didn't see what was special about Pure as compared to the demo. Pure was just the demo with similar environments, and not much added. I was expecting to see the same with Split Second, but saw that the developers weren't so lazy this time. The S/S demo features a car which is a lower end car, in which drifting is difficult, and not very fun. In the complete game, you are rewarded cars that are easier to handle through drifting, and makes more sense. The tracks (not in the demo) also make drifting more conducive.

There are 72 races in this game with 12 episodes and 6 races for each episode, some with new environments. There will be a couple of different challenges you have to complete to move onto the next episode. In one of the more fun challenges, you must pass semi-trucks while they are dumping barrels of oil, and avoid the oil barrels. The other main challenge featured is an elimination mode, in which the car in last place gets eliminated when the timer hits zero. Some of the other challenges require no drifting, and focus on avoiding hazards which actually brings a new type of racer to the game. The challenges are various, and much more fun than I expected.

(There is also a 2 player mode which offers a split screen, but I haven't played in this mode to comment on it.)

Buy Split/Second Now

Taking a page out of Burnouts books, Split Second serves as an arcade type racer that isnt concerned with simulating the aspect of the intricateness of the real life racing experience, but more of speed, daring close calls, explosions, and destruction. The game succeeds in taking this motive and making it last through the 12 or so episodes (features at least 4 different types of races and events in each one).

Similar to their previous game PURE, the game is a gorgeous experience through its many locales. The camera angles used emphasize the action well. For example, whenever an opponent or multiple opponents fall victim to a power play (you can trigger these to slow down opponents, leading them to crash), the camera will occasionally zoom in to their location and show an up close view of the wreckage; when a level 2 power play (usually also results in a course change, in which the track will change), the camera will zoom into that location and even allow the option of an instant replay view from like a camera cam to show the wreckage and devastation. These camera angles and sheer scale of some of the powerplays leads to numerous mouth dropping moments. The games story is told through amazing adrenaline filled sequences that are full of explosions as well. The music played through races is always quite on point for the high adrenaline and is there to pump the player up and make it more suspenseful, truly it all works.

Although there are a limited number of locations through the game, there are many opportunities in races for the use powerplays and shortcuts, the experience can really never get old. The game has opponents with high enough intelligence that they will always keep at the players rear and make each finish a nail-biting one. Enemies utilize shortcuts and powerplays extensively, so even though a player could be 5+ seconds ahead of a car, they are still within distance to be caught in a play and go all the way back to last place. The challenge in getting first place on all tracks is definitely there.

The game has numerous unlockable cars and modes. The player will experience all modes in the story mode and some are able to be played in the offline splitscreen multiplayer and online. Races are capped at 8 players as well.

The game will probably hold most players for the 40 hours if they aim for all the trophys for the game and is definitely worth the $60 buying price. The future of DLC possible is also there as there is a section called Downloadable Content on the games menu. The only con to the game is perhaps that drifting mechanisms, which takes awhile to get used to, but once done it can be used to keep up the speed in racers.

So definitely try this game if you liked Black Rock Studios previous high definition console racer PURE, and also if you are looking for an arcade racer to fill the void in your library of Playstation 3 games.

I have completed 8 out of 12 'episodes' in this game, and I am thoroughly impressed with the production value and challenge offered by this title. The AI is indeed challenging, sometimes to the point of 'cheating' as some might claim, but this game is meant to challenge your skills and ability to strategize accordingly and use the environment to your advantage to come out on top. Sure there will be frustrating moments when you lose a race by mere seconds (or even less at times), but this makes it even more satisfying when you trigger a powerplay that wrecks several opponents seconds before crossing the finish line to take first place!!

This game can best be described as a simple, no-holds-barred epic racing simulator that strips away all the fluff and gets you right to the action, every single time!!! This game is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who is remotely interested in racing games!!

EDIT 7-3-2010

Just completed 11 out of 12 episodes. I found that you do NOT necessarily have to finish the final race for each episode ('Elite' race) in 1st place in order to be first in the season competition. This gives the player some breathing room seeing as the AI is quite unforgiving in some races, so finishing first in all would probably have been a frustrating requirement.
