I bought this game after several months of going "I really want this!" watching my boyfriend play. I decided to one-up him by ordering the special edition and having it sent over to the states. It comes with some of the best features I've seen for a game like this, and is most definitely worth the money. The only downside is that the DLC voucher doesn't work on US consoles, but it's not enough to take away from the overall purchase.

newsflash:Theres no possible way this game could help you learn the guitar! I had high hopes that it would. I dont know what the point of using a real guitar with strings is, if they are just going to copy guitar hero play format. If you dont already know , heres the facts: this game doesnt teach you anything about chords or how to play a guitar. It is basically a clone of guitar here. All it does is convert a real string guitar into a 5 button guitar hero guitar controller. You press down on the string as if it were a button, e.g. a one inch wide section is for the "green button" and another one for the "red button" and etc. The game even tells you that if the strings break its ok cuz you only need one string to play this game! wow I was so surprised. I really dont care if its a real guitar, cuz if I cant play it as a real guitar INSIDE of THE GAME then its useless to me(since I cant play it anyway).

also the main deal breaker was the crummy drums. The sensors simply stink. I dont know if mine were defective but I doubt it, i think the design just stinks. THey can detect the drum sticks about 60% of the time!!! ! why would you want to play a drum game with intermittent detection abilitys! o and By the way the drum base AND the sticks all need batteries. you have to unscrew the battery door to put em in, kind of annoying. ANd theres no way to turn anything offi guess it turns itself off EVENTALLY, i think it takes about 15 minutes or so. Why would you want to let it drain power from the batteries all that time(they need on/off buttons on this stuff!) ANyway the main point is the sensors just stink and they dont know when you are drumming. Plus its really more fun to hit the drums anyway.its really just not fun to air drum. maybe if they made this have sensors on the drum pads TOO, so it could detect it both ways, and you could hit it to make it work as well, it might be good then. I dont know if they were trying to eliminate noise or what, but the fact is little kids are going to hit the dang drum ANYWAY. it doesnt matter if they need to or are supposed to or not, they will still do it. Since it doesnt know when its getting hit it seems to make it even less accurate if you do end up hitting it (physically).

yah anyway id stay away frmo this little prototype of a game design until they figure out what they are trying to do. if they want to use a string guitar then they need to write some software that can teach and recognize real guitar chords in the game! otherwise ill just stick with guitar hero and button controllers! if they want to use sensors for drumming they better put alot more of them so its 100% accurate! otherwise my rock band drums are much more fun.

stay away from getting this, and just pray that they can improve the design in the future.

*please programmers, design a way to play this game using real guitar chords and real playing motions, and let us actually be able to learn to play the guitar with this kit.*

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS AWESOME! THE PRICE,THE GUITAR,THE DRUMS,THE MIC,AND THE GAME! PEOPLE ARE GIVING SUCH HORRIBLE REVIEWS SO I THOUGHT I'D GIVE IT A GREAT ONE! I CAN USE THE GUITAR FOR ROCK BAND AND GUITAR HERO GAMES! AS WELL AS THE DRUMS AND MIC! I CAN PLAY THE GAME WITH GUITAR HERO OR ROCK BAND INSTRUMENTS! AND I ONLY PAID $33.74 FOR THE WHOLE BAND HERE ON AMAZON! SCORE FOR ME! MY COUSIN AND I BOTH PURCHASED ONE BECAUSE I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE AMAZING PRICE FOR ALL YOU'D GET! HE'S SAID HE DOESN'T REALLY CARE FOR THE WAY YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE DRUMS (BECAUSE THEY'RE AIR STRIKE DRUMS) AND THAT MAYBE HE JUST NEEDS TO GET USED TO IT BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT. BUT AS A OVERALL,HE LIKES THE WHOLE POWERGIG BAND BUNDLE! EVEN WITH THE WAY YOU HAVE TO PLAY THE DRUMS! NOW I'D SAY THAT'S A PRETTY GOOD REVIEW FOR SOMEONE TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT BUT STILL FEELS THE PRODUCT IS AWESOME ENOUGH TO NOT WRITE IT OFF AND BE WILLING TO GIVE IT A TRY!

I know: Power Gig has been out for months. It was skewered by critics. It was bought by no one (hilariously, on YourGamerCards, a site used to track trophies, only 260 people have played this game, and only 6 have platted it).

BUT, it is now forty bucks at Gamestop, for the full band set. "What the heck?", I thought, and picked it up yesterday. And in the end, it's not the worst game I've ever played, but it's definitely the worst music game I've played, and it's not really that fun in the end.

THE GOOD:

Well, all games have something good about them, but I struggle to find it here. If I had to pick, I would say that it is minutely fun to sing along to the songs.

THE BAD:

-PERIPHERALS

No, I'm not talking about the quality of the peripherals. Actually, I don't think they're that bad, for something that I picked up for forty bucks. The guitar isn't going to win a beauty contest, but it does play. The AirStrike drums are silly, but the sensors do work (despite reports to the contrary in fact, they work a little TOO well for my liking). The microphone is a microphone.

So, what's the problem? Let's start with the guitar. Look, I like that your game has a real guitar. How about really using the guitar? The fact is, you still play it, in the vast majority of the songs, like a GH/RB guitar. However, it's more problematic, as the frets are not very responsive to touch (unlike, e.g., the fret buttons on a GH guitar). It really busts your fingers, but you get no real reward from it.

The drums are a joke. It took me almost an hour to realize that I needed to put batteries into the drum sticks themselves (2 AA each, no less). The problem? You have to unscrew the back of the stick! Who thought of such a stupid idea? Moreover, when you put the batteries in, you can't put the back of the stick in place again it won't fit without a major struggle.

The gameplay with the drums consists of you swinging them over sensors (DON'T HIT THE PADS!, or so they say). Whose bright idea was this? You know what's fun when you play drums? Hitting the drum. You play air drums when...you don't have a drum to hit. Otherwise, you smack a desk, the wall, etc. Why in the sam hell would I want to just swing at air? Come on for a game that had a major campaign touting its realism (for a laugh, go and read some of the hilarious interviews with celebrity chumps that backed this game), this is just a joke.

Like I said, I find that the sensors work TOO well. Often, I will register two swings when I've only swung once. Occasionally, the note will drop as well, although most of this time, this was my fault. But it makes the drums almost unplayable. I would advise using the plastic guitar for GH for this game. I've even heard that the drums work as well, although the color coding will mess you up. The microphone seems to work fine.

-GAME AESTHETIC

The game looks and feels ugly. The graphics are just horrible. The deformed characters (there are only six total, and you can only choose from two on each instrument) look ridiculous. The story (involving some evil guy called Headliner who took all the mojo away from a world I kid thee not) is almost corny enough to be funny, except for the strange voiceover you'll hear 1000x as you play: "Headliner: I call him Captain Braindead!". Every time you load up, you'll hear this. It's not funny or clever, and after 3 times, you already want to turn the volume down.

For some reason, the single player modes are shoved to one side of the screen. The drums are on the left. The guitar is on the right. I can understand this for 3-player mode, but why no use the full screen for SP?

The structure of the game even manages to be confusing and awkward. You are supposed to choose certain songs based on a symbol next to them. The symbol changes over time, and as there are 4 symbols (and more are added later), this ensures that you are constantly searching for these silly rune-like marks. Was it really necessary? Is there any reason not to have standard gigs with set songs, or at the very least, gigs where you choose to play what you want from a given list?

The overall single player mode can be finished in a night if you exploit these symbols correctly (a long night it's about 60 songs or so).

-GAMEPLAY

What a mess. The game attempts to distinguish between two types of note hit. If you hit a note in perfect time (a "perfect" hit), you get a lot of points, and if you hit a note slightly off (a "good" hit), you get less points. In order to build your multiplier, you must hit consecutive "perfect" notes. Taken by itself, this isn't the worst idea ever. The problem is that it requires a herculean effort to calibrate your system. Even when you do, sometimes the game just...skips. A note will discretely move from above the strike zone to below it, because the game gets hung up. If this happens, it doesn't matter if you hit the note properly you always miss it. This is a fatal flaw in such a system.

Like I said, the drums are notorious for adding/dropping strikes. I find them nearly unplayable.

The microphone works pretty well, although I have never been able to calibrate it perfectly. I always find that I have to start a note a little early in order to get a perfect setting, which creates a strange echo between the TV and me (you will hear your voice prominently on the television.

-TROPHIES

They are a joke. While some of them require multiple players, none of them require even one iota of skill. Every trophy except for one can be obtained on the lowest difficulty. This is probably good, since hard trophies would be brutal, given the limitations of gameplay.

FINAL REVIEW:

I can't recommend this game to anyone. I gave it two stars in the fun category because I am a sucker for music games, but this game is really bad. I might say it's good for little kids, but the guitar is pretty heavy, and the drums will be broken in a week (kids like hitting drums, too). Some of the songs are catchy, but overall, the music selection is lackluster (you may know some of the bands, but you'll know few of the songs). The Black Sabbath song, in particular, is laughably bad. The lousy guitar might make it worthwhile (you can probably plug it into Rocksmith, although I don't know), but even for forth bucks, you'll be straining to believe you got your money's worth.

Game was terrible! But I mainly bought it for the horrible guitar, just cause it works for guitar hero and rock band and I wasn't going to pay 100 dollars for a guitar controller... And since I've been playing guitar for a few years now I will even review the guitar, guitar is really cheap, the mute untunes it so if you plan on using it with a amp that is a problem... And the frets on this are absolutely horrid I've seen better quality feet on toys! And the air strike drumset has tons of issues... 4 stars just cause the great service, I knew the game was garbage, that's why it's less then 1/4 of its price when it was released, not a bad price for something if you want a couple hours of entertainment but don't expect it to last long

I had the Playseat EVO and enjoyed it for several years. When I upgraded to the rSeat V3 I found the cushion to be quite unsubstantial. I tried using foam from my local fabric store but I felt it in "the end."

I compared the shape of the cushion in my old Playseat (which I was getting rid of) and the shape required for the rSeat, whatya know, it was a pretty good fit.

So I ordered a new Playseat cushion to use in my rSeat rig. Works like a charm!

Regardless of your application this is a nice seat as the foam is quite dense, probably close to automotive quality and the cover on my original held up very well.

As a DBZ fan, it hurts to be this honest, but someone has to do it. I loved this game when I was going through the training, but as I played the Dragonball story missions, I noticed glitches, lagging and if you're planning on completing all of the sagas, there are some things you must know because you WILL notice them.

Pros

~ crazy game detail

it's amazing how you can see the faces of the opponents as you deliver a heavy blow.

~ Added features!

Like instant teleportation (or vanishing) whenever you want. You can't teleport close to your opponent if your far away, thought.

~ moves don't cover the whole battlefield like the other games.

~ Newly added moves called "signature skills" that are the hallmarks of the characters.

Instant tagging with other teammates. The designers have also included a tagging interception ability among other

~ manga-like cut scenes. I enjoy watching them. Also the opening cut scenes can be skipped-there's nothing more annoying than unskippable cut scenes.

~ Never before seen characters

One word. Super Saiyan 3 Broly. Okay, maybe 3 words.

~ Amazing intricate customization system.

It's like a game in a game.

~ many game story scenarios-I think there's one for every DBZ episode where there was fighting.

~ awesome loading game-now you can get money while waiting for your game to load.

Cons

-VEXING GAMEPLAY

At least once every 3 games, the game camera will loose you and your opponent, leaving you to blindly fight yourself out of a corner.

the action is off--

- that is-there is a lag between combos. This is especially obvious when your trying to link combos together.

- Sometimes your melee attacks cause damage, but your opponents don't flinch. This sometimes happens when you're trying to link combos together.

-Online versus:

INSANE online competition that takes advantage of game flaws.

Game is not as universal as previous versions

limited amount of combos

not as many characters as the games before.

-laggiy moves

Some moves have a HUGE lag after you do them.

-Sometimes impossible mission goals.

The game sometimes requires you hit your opponent with moves within a 5 second time span. The problem is-the time to perform these actions, called "perfect actions", comes without warning. So, when the game tells you to use the ultimate attack, you have 5 seconds to power up to the max, find your opponent, and successfully use the attack.

-glitch automatic lock off

Sometimes, your moves don't hit your opponent. You fight right past them as though they sidestepped-but they didn't. This happens a lot when you start combos as your opponent gets up.

-Perfect Actions:

These are moves you must successfully hit your opponent with in a 5 second time span. The problem is, if you're opponent is in the middle of a combo, or dashing away from you, or you don't have enough energy to complete the action-you're screwed. I once had to repeat a mission 5 times.

-objective glitches

Sometimes you will complete an objective, but the game will not show it as completed.

The voice acting is SO synchronized with the actual mouth movement, it is ridiculous.

-Mission replay

If you want to complete any saga past the Saiyan Saga, you're going to have to repeat missions to earn "stars" which can help you buy missions to complete other sagas. This means you're going to have to complete each mission at least TWICE (assuming you never fail) Each bonus objective completed in addition to beat a mission has 3 stars

Trophies--

If you want that platinum-and we all do--

I run a DBZ News Channel on YouTube and for the last 5 months I've been mostly reporting and anticipating what I thought would be the best game ever.

I was VERY disappointed in this game. Now I played the Wii version of Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and after playing this. Wow. I'm disappointed.

PROS:

The graphics are great.

Option to switch to Japanese audio

Plenty to do (modes)

Stages are larger

Online World Tournament can be fun

Super Attack Customization

CONS (ESPECIALLY LACK OF DEPTH):

They took out way too many combos from BT3, it's ridiculous. YOU END UP DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN, USUALLY SUPER ATTACKS. There's just no depth to this game, (there was a bit more in BT3) and I just got bored spamming Super Attacks.

The camera in battle is just really awful, you're going to get horrible angles almost every fight that ruins the fun.

There are way less characters and stages, and some important characters like Ultimate Gohan are gone.

There is framerate problems and unresponsive control problems, doing Super Rising only works like 1/2 the time.

Everything is more stiff and much slower-paced than BT3.

The Story Mode combines the worst elements of BT2 and BT3. BT2's story mode was incredibly long, but well told. BT3's story mode was incredibly short, but poorly told (although it wasn't trying to, which was fine and enjoyable by me). Dragon Battle Collection IS LONG AND POORLY TOLD. To even get the story you have to read a paragraph recap.

Collecting stars by replaying each Story Mode battle 3 times just isn't worth it.

The controls are completely revamped, and in my opinion are not as good.

I have a great internet connection and there was many communication errors while playing Online Mode, although there wasn't lag it was just hard to actually get to a battle.

Playing Online may not be worth it because your opponent is most likely going to spam Super Attacks, which I can't blame since there's barely anything else you can do.

Super Battle Trial is incredibly tedious to complete.

Not enough new things added. Super Rising, Crashing into Walls, 2 new stage destructibility features and a really gimmicky weather change is it.

I'm disappointed in this game. Raging Blast 2 better be awesome, or its back to Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for me.

Buy Dragon Ball: Raging Blast Now

I wanted a DBZ game for my PS3 and after finding out it had a bit more sagas than Burst Limit, I got this.

The camera angles are beyond terrible. Good luck to anyone focusing on your opponent when you end up near a wall.

Buttons/commands won't work most of the time and that really sucks when you need them the most.

There is only ONE set of combos per character so 9 times out of 10 you'll end up using Super attacks just to finish the battle.

No screams when they power up. wtf it just looks hella weird.

Battles/playing with characters in the story mode idgaf about. (I really could have cared less about Yamcha/Tien/Chiaotzu fighting a dead Ginyu Force)

Not worth replaying the story mode over and over to get stars. (Goku's alternate outfits are not THAT important)

WAIT until this game is 19.99$ or less, or wait for the sequal which is hopefully 100x better

A great game with very few flaws. The combat is fun, and there's alot of content. The graphics are great if you like cell-shading. The camera isn't nearly as bad as some people claim, though it can be bothersome. The trophies are also quite difficult; don't be expecting a platinum anytime soon.

Overall, this was an awesome game. I definitely recommend it for DBZ fans.

The most noticeable change from Madden NFL 11 is the improved pregame presentation. Before each game begins, shaky camera close-ups give you an intimate look at your favorite players as they parade onto the field, and robotic cheerleaders who look as though they're sporting spray-on clothing dance to the delight of the frenzied crowd. The same exaggerated hoopla that an ordinary NFL contest uses to spike interest is used to ratchet up the excitement of this virtual offering, but it's ultimately a lot of frills without much payoff. The appeal fades away once you sit through the routine a handful of times, and the rest of the presentation still comes across as flat. Commentary does little to engender much enthusiasm. The duo of Gus Johnson and Cris Collinsworth returns, and they dole out the same tired cliches so often that they quickly overstay their welcome. Calls are frequently made so late that Johnson continues to hoot and holler long after a tackle occurs, which tears down the wall of believability the various pregame tricks tried to develop.

No one can resist the urge to keep playing Resistance: Fall of Man once the game is started. Chapter after chapter of exhilarating battles against a plethora of creatures that you use a plethora of weapons to defeat (and they'll use them against you too).

To really put the plot of the game in context (if you care about the plot), it's well worth the visit to the official Resistance: Fall of Man web site; there's a ton of story there that I'd bet 90% of the people who start the game are unaware of. For me, the story helped me "get into character" for the game. If you just want to start wasting some nasty beasts, "Get to it, soldier!" Rest assured, the story won't help you beat the enemies or evade the barrage of defenses that will be fired at you by them.

As a relatively new gamer, I'm glad that I played Call of Duty 3 Call of Duty 3 before I cracked open Resistance: Fall of Man. It was good FPS training (set in approximately the same time period) for this much more difficult PS3 title.

Resistance has an M (mature gamers only) rating which miffs me a bit, but then I'm a bit more liberal when it comes to what I think might warp the little minds of kids these days. I've seen this classified as a Horror title, but I think that Sci-fi Action is much more fitting. Resistance deserved a T (teen) rating. My kids and I get hung up all too often on sunny days playing Resistance's Co-op Mode when we should be outside playing ball. And hopefully that alone speaks volumes as to how addictively fun this game is.

Co-op Mode is split screen of course because the game is FPS; it would be nice if some games could give the option of switching to a single screen, third person view for Co-op in order to negate the need for split screen, but that would distinctly change to look, range, feel and some of the weaponry...so I assume that's why it's never offered on Co-op mode.

Multi-player is very cool. Multi-player is not like Co-op where you play the Campaign Mode with a partner. In Multi-player you battle against your friends offline (4 player max/split screen) or online (40 player max/full screen). You get some areas of battle to play in that you encountered in Campaign Mode and some new map scematics.

But Resistance's real challenge is in single player Campaign Mode.

Your weapons are plentiful. You start with a pretty standard machine gun (M5A2) that includes a grenade launcher that will become your best "little friend" in the game. It's very useful on the enemies that you encounter most throughout the game. You also get several mean weapons that you pick up from your fallen comrades and defeated beasts including the enemy's main machine gun (The Bullseye...very handy), grenades, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, a radiation blaster (The Auger), a mine thrower, a rapid fire subsonic bolt dispenser (The Hailstorm) and a rocket launcher.

Grenades are key to survival...use them, but you'll want to keep in mind that you can run out real real fast...so use them pretty much exclusively to take down groups of enemies.

(And five other weapons aside from the ones that I mentioned above are unlocked only after beating/completing the game once on medium difficulty or higher.)

If you missed the countless gamer magazines' synopsises of the creature types and the power of the individual weapons, there are some great gamer help web sites that are worth taking a look at to help you strategize (just click on my profile above and email me if you'd like me to point you in the right direction).

And speaking of getting pointed in the right direction, part of the fun of this game is figuring out on your own how to get from chapter to chapter. There are no maps, which at times was frustrating. Let me tell you that if the phrase "the best route is not always the most obvious" ever applied to trying to get from here to there it applies in this game on more than one occasion.

You'll also need to at times navigate a jeep and a tank.

So what exactly are you fighting? Where exactly did they come from? If you're up to the challenge to find out....You're Sgt. Nathan Hale, and you're the only one with a Resistance to the Fall of Man. Prepare for some serious battle.

Resistance Fall of Man is a first person shooter that combines World War II era environments with Doom-like horrific enemies to fight. It also offers great online multiplayer gameplay.

The plot is that, around the time of World War II, enemies attacked the world, starting with Russia and moving westward through Europe and England. In the 50s, the US launched a counter-attack, landing in England. You're fighting, at least to start with, with WWII era weapons and outfits through the streets of England.

Let's start with the graphics. The game goes for a very Call of Duty style of look not quite realistic, more "cartooney" or stylized. Textures are smoothed out, some objects are simplified. That's not to say this is a Disney kiddie look. The monsters are grimey and nasty looking, the war-torn streets are very gritty. If anything, because this is set in a WWII type atmosphere, much of the game is brown, grimy and shell-shocked.

The HUD is reasonably well done and not intrusive. A small series of bars on the left indicates your health. An equally small but useful display on the right tracks your ammo, magazines and grenades.

The sound leans towards epic thundering scores, a la Gladiator or Conan. Players who love heavy rock music might not enjoy this, but I actually love this kind of music. I own both of the soundtracks I mentioned :). So to me, this really draws you into the atmosphere. The yells, gun noises and so on seem relatively realistic to help you feel you're really in the middle of a fight. I also like that, during gameplay, it's usually done without music. If I'm trying to sneak somewhere and listen for enemy movement, I don't want that objective made difficult by a soundtrack.

Gameplay itself is typical FPS fare. You can crouch, jump over things, zoom in on your enemy, throw grenades, strafe, and so on. Your friends and enemies are rather good about taking cover and not just rushing an enemy head-on. There are a few situations which seem quite scripted if your pals are meant to die, you could play perfectly and take out every enemy quickly and your friends will still be killed by mysterious off-screen snipers. Still, the game needs to keep you on course for the plot so this is to be expected.

Checkpointing is reasonably good, although sometimes it sends you further back then you might like to start again. Healing is done via canisters you find, but depending on your skill you might wish there were more canisters scattered around :). That's why they have 3 levels of difficulty here.

The interactivity with your environment is pretty impressive. Say your enemy is hiding behind a car. You can shoot out the car's windows and then shoot the enemy through the open space. Or you can shoot the car to damage it, and have it explode a la the infamous 'red exploding barrels' found in most shooting games. If you shoot at a window a few times, it will first crack, then pieces will fall out.

Not only is the game great in single player mode, but you can play co-op with a friend at your home, or online in larger groups with friends or strangers from around the world. This helps turn the game from a play-for-a-few-months-at-home style game to a play-eternally-with-friends-online game.

Well recommended!

I don't know how any one can get the real picture on this game with reviews from the fanboys and haters being so predominant. I hope my review is helpful to you.

This is the best first-person-shooter for a SONY platform. The gameplay is fun and solid. Controls are responsive and, as stated by another reviewer, hit detection is accurate. It's a must own launch title for the PS3.

The graphics are in a bit "flat". They don't have that multi-dimension feel that I expected from a next-gen title on such a powerful system. There's no depth to inanimate objects such as grass, boxes, chairs and so forth. Also, you can just run right through dead characters. You don't have the ability to push the bodies around. Also, when walking through grass you literally walk "through" it. It doesn't move you just pass through it. The environments also aren't very interactive. There's not much more you can do besides run, hide and shoot.

The smoothness of the gameplay is impressive. Even when there are loads of characters on screen everything still runs smoothly. This is a testament to the PS3's power. That being said, it also means that this game doesn't really stress the hardware. Resistance delivers and goods and does everything well.

We have to remember that the PS3 is still in its infancy and has a way to go before the software catches up to the hardware. We'll have to wait for the next round of high end games to find out just what the PS3 is capable of.

I am really, really picky about my FPS's. Over the years, only Halo, Halo 2, Half Life 2, Socom 2, and Counterstrike have been able to make me say "wow" and keep playing for months. My games have to have it all (story, gameplay, online, sound). This is another one to add to that list. Resistance is all around incredible. I would say this is one of my favorite games ever (and thats saying a ton for a launch title). The single player comes second only to Half Life 2 and the multiplayer is on par and may be even a little better than the rest of the titles I mentioned. I have been playing relentlessly since launch and plan to play for months to come. Throw in the coop op mode and all the unlockables and leveling up in the online game and you have an instant classic.

Probably the biggest stand out in the game are the weapons. This game has a weapon that shoots through walls for goodness sake. The sniper rifle slows down time. Even the rocket launcher can be stopped in midair, fire its own volley of rockets, and then be aimed again and launched in another direction. Its just amazing how much thought and innovation went into these weapons. The sound is great, the story in engaging, and the graphics are very good. They aren't Gears of War good, but then again, Resistance puts more than 4 creatures on the screen at ones and keeps a steady framerate.

And last but not least, the online play (20 vs 20) is LAG FREE. I have yet to see one instance of lag in my entire time playing the online game, and everyone else seems to have the same results.

All in all, this game is amazing, and the fact that it is a launch title makes it all the more impressive. BUY THIS NOW. If your waiting to buy your ps3, BUY IT THEN.

One thing you're sure to hear from 360 fanboys is how Gears of War blows away Resistance, etc etc. Since I own both systems, I went ahead and gave this game a shot a couple days ago, and I was _not_ disappointed. The game may not be as pretty, but it still looks great, and is a blast to play. I wished for a while that there was a cover feature like Gears, but really every other shooter I've played doesn't have it, and I was used to it within minutes.

Pros -

* Campaign plays like a story, feels like you're playing through history.

* Co-op campaign mode, I'm a big fan of this, for me it makes the game much more enjoyable.

* Great gameplay and graphics, not quite GoW quality, but looks awesome on an HDTV, controls and gameplay are standard, but pretty much flawless.

* Easy to launch into multiplayer play, I downloaded the patch and was playing (for free even) within a couple of minutes with 39 other people in the game, fun stuff.

* Atmospheric, great AI. Challenging for all skills levels, get a feeling of immersion playing through.

* Weapons! These can make or break a shooter...if the weapons aren't fun to shoot, then a shooter can lose it's appeal quickly. I enjoyed pretty much every gun you get, but I didn't really understand why you need to beat the game to get access to a few new weapons...not a good reason to replay a game in my opinion.

Cons -

* Not _quite_ the graphics I expected from PS3, but it's first gen, so very minute complaint. Only supports 720p I'm actually not sure if this going to be standard for PS3 games, or later games will be 1080p, (ala blu-ray)but it would have been that much nicer for it to look that much better. If you don't own an HDTV, don't worry about this, if you do, you might not even have 1080p resolution, so this "problem" really doesn't apply to most people.

* I'm noticing a trend here with games like this where the campaign is only around 10 hrs...it's a great 10, but it kinda sucks to be done in a couple of days, and I don't gain much satisfaction from beating it on a harder difficulty. (I beat it on medium)That being said, the free multiplayer option is nice. (Also, it's about 10hrs not including restarts, moving at a fairly fast clip through the game, it could take novice players double that at medium difficulty)

Overall -

Very fun to play through the story, I honestly got as much of a kick out of it as I did GoW...very similar yet somehow not as mindless in presentation. If you want to play through the story once, and don't enjoy multiplayer, _RENT IT_. If you like playing through on different difficulties, or especially if you enjoy multiplayer shooters, _BUY IT_.

This review was created a few hours after I got Madden 11 for the sake of getting crucial info out to consumers as quickly as possible. It will be edited and maintained as the game changes and more information becomes clear as I increase my familiarity with the product.

****ORIGINAL REVIEW BEGINS HERE: As a professional software tester and avid (read: hardcore) Madden gamer, I feel that there are some things that Amazon customers should be aware of before making the purchase. This will focus only on gameplay (especially as pertains to online), not commentary or other add-ons that can enhance or take away from the experience.

This edition of Madden is great for new players, but it will leave the old-timers like myself somewhat confused and angry that our old controls are gone. The new Gameflow playcalling is utterly useless to experienced Madden players (it is optional, thankfully), but casual gamers will find the game immediately more accessible.

The biggest difference is the Strategy Pad. Hot routes, audibles, defensive assignments, etc are now accessed through a top level menu by hitting the cross pad. This is a huge problem for hardcore Maddenites because it means that we have to press more buttons to do the same amount of adjustments that we did in Madden 10. More time spent adjusting means less ability for preplay setup, and those precious fractions of a second mean the difference between running a complicated scheme and a vanilla defense.

The good news is that the old controls are being patched in, hopefully by September, to appease those of us carrying pitchforks and torches.

The turbo button has been taken away (default setting, can be changed) in favor of encouraging a two-stick control method for runners. The right stick controls the upper body, the left stick controls the lower body. It isn't as intuitive as EA would have you think, but it isn't terrible, either. The old button controls also exist. The runner is easier to control now and running is very smooth.

OFFENSE:

The offense has a lot of power in comparison to last year's installation. Defenses, due to less adjustment time and a few tweaks to offensive performance (that needed to be made -more on this in a second), are on their heels from the get-go. There is an exception to this, and that will be mentioned later as well in the DEFENSE section of this review. In any case, Wide Receiver performance is greatly improved. No longer does the wideout run uncontrollably in the wrong direction after catching a comeback or screen pass. Rocket Catches are also laughably easy (casual gamer note -Rocket Catches are when the receiver spins, jumps, and catches the ball in an earlier point of its trajectory than he would by default). The running game is also harder to defend, it seems, especially against "stud" backs like Peterson and Johnson.

DEFENSE:

Harder to play, softer coverages in every way than Madden 10 (especially zone), unless the following is taken advantage of. This is a glitch, and will almost certainly be patched because it is a gaping hole in the AI. The offensive line does not "see" spies. If the defense manually puts someone on QB spy and blitzes with them, interior linemen do not pick them up. Executed properly, QBs cannot get out of their auto-drop before being slammed to the ground. Even max-protect with RBs does not work to counter this if the defensive player knows a certain trick (that will remain unmentioned here -I don't want to contribute to more abuse of the glitch). This version of Madden is made to shift the balance of power to the offense, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it is comparatively harder to play great defense in 11 than it was in 10.

Overall: Once the game is patched, I think it will be good for everyone and may earn another star or even two. As-is, there are some severe issues that remove some of the depth that hardcore Madden fans enjoy. Madden 11 is checkers instead of chess, but I do hold out some hope that the desired depth will be added via patch.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm done. I've played enough after patch 1.03 to make me think that this will never be fixed or even equal M10. I strongly suggest you stay away from this game if you are interested in improved gameplay over M10. It ain't there, and probably never will be. Zones are busted and defense is just generally broken. I'm trading in to get $ toward Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Best of luck to those of you who decide to stick it out.

***9/23***

A quick note about 1.03. This patch seems to have increased the efficiency of the defense. In my first game after the patch playing the same defense (mainly 4-6 speed package cover 2 man as a base using a safety and both DE's in a variety of different ways) I forced 6 turnovers against someone with a .600 win pct online. The big difference was that interceptions weren't almost always dropped. Zone still seemed unplayable, though. I haven't seen any other differences yet, but I'll post back here when I do.

***9/9***

Patch 1.02 was released a couple of days ago, patching in Madden 10 preplay controls in addition to some unidentified gameplay "tweaks". The addition of the preplay controls is nice, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that defense in the game is broken. The hit stick is worse than useless -if you use it, you will miss the tackle at least 70% of the time (remember, I'm a hardcore Madden fan -it's not like I'm just bad at using it). Man coverage gets beaten badly by many routes, and zone gets beaten worse. Deep passes are a 50/50 prospect (far too offensively powered). Receivers often drop the easiest passes when wide open unless user-caught. Rocket Catching, which I originally reviewed as laughably easy, is only laughably easy with certain receivers on certain routes (outs and C-routes). Unlike Madden 10, lesser teams (like the Raiders) are not really playable unless the user is ready to have silly, uncontrollable things happen (like dropping multiple passes, having the QB inexplicably throw 20 yards off-target, etc). Maybe the second patch with fix things, but I hesitate to suggest that anyone buy this product due to the severe play imbalances that exist. I'm strongly considering trading in. I've given it a month, and I'm at the end of my rope. As someone with a better than .800 win pct online who is saying this, I implore you to consider the average Madden gamer. The frustration just simply is not worth it. In Madden 10, two people who knew what they were doing could adjust and stop the other person. There was an answer for everything. In M11, an excellent defender will always be beaten by a pretty good offense.

***8/26 Edit 3***

Run blocking, especially out of I, Strong, and Weak formations, needs to be patched but has not been addressed in any press release by EA. The lead blocker (a fullback, usually) will often get through the first level of defenders on interior running plays and simply stop without attempting to block anyone. As a note to players, interior runs are far more effective unless your opponent has no idea how to stop sweeps, and this is probably as it should be.

***Second Edit***

EA has released an announcement that they will be patching the QB spy glitch, tweaking pass defense to make it stronger, and improving Play Action blocking. If they do this, the game will be significantly improved (8/23/2010)

***FIRST EDIT***

Another major issue is the required auto-dropback for QB's in Shotgun formations. You cannot control the QB for about one second after he has the ball in his hands. I assume this is to discourage what may have been considered (by EA) "abuse of QB scrambling." It's very difficult to see how this adds to the gameplay, however, as it severely limits quick throws/WR screen effectiveness and causes the QB to be a sitting duck.

Against what appears to be the tide of public opinion among users (as opposed to yes-men reviewers) I paid full price for the new iteration.I am not a hard core gamer, so little glitches that irritate some do not bother me all that much, but I felt compelled to share some thoughts. I am playing exclusively Franchise vs. CPU, so I can't speak to online issues.

The appearance of the game is nicely done, although I don't see any significant improvement there from Madden 10.I do like the two-stick running. Once I got used to it, I did feel like I had more control, and the running is more realistic. Unlike one reviewer I read, once you get the hang of it I do find it to be somewhat intuitive. Overall, I think the running is much more lifelike and a big improvement from last year. The other thing I noticed about the game (and NCAA 11) which I kinda like is that when you are tackling you had better be in position or the guy is gone.I played several games where the RB just runs through the line and goes--once for 98 yards on 3rd down. That made me a little cranky. It seems like the RB's will break a lot more tackles than in the last version, which I found hugely frustrating as I am still getting used to play. I am a big Rams fan, and granted they suck, but I mean I played against Adrian Peterson and he was tossing would be tacklers aside like Superman. I get that he's Adrian Peterson, but I also got abused by some third string RB for Tampa in a pre-season game. I didn't bring anyone down until the third contact. It was as frustrating as it is to be a Rams fan in real life.

The "Strategy Pad" is abysmally stupid and inefficient. It makes me really wonder what the people at EA are thinking about when they make these totally unnecessary changes. This thing adds nothing to gameplay. It's kind of a huge FU to those of us who have been supporting the game over the years. I am not that great on the controls, but in my opinion it takes twice as long to make adjustments. I was playing Jets v. Pats the other day against the CPU and was getting torched by Wes Welker. I went to double team him and could literally not get it done before the ball was snapped, like, 8 plays in a row, and EVERY play was a pass to a wide open Welker--I kid you not, every play until they scored. I almost threw the six-axis thru the screen.Pretty infuriating. Which brings me to my next criticism. Gameflow, IMO, is useless for anyone who has played the game before. I was trying it out in this game, and it never occurred to my brilliant coaching staff to double team Welker. I couldnt tell who my personnel were, and on offense they call the same plays over and over again. At first I thought it was a cool idea to "be in the helmet" and have the coaches talking to you. But, oh my, the stupid things they say. "OK, lets run it up the middle and hopefully the blocking will be there...Ok, take a five-step drop and hit your receiver"--you know, stuff the coaches really say. Once, on defense the coach tells me to watch out that I don't get torched long down the sideline, and guess what happened? Anyway I played the Jets/Pats over without Gameflow, and found it to be pretty enjoyable. The other thing I noticed is that offense is way too easy and defense way to hard. I played all weekend and every game was 38-35, 42-30, etc. And I echo what someone else said about the CPU making superhuman comebacks in the third quarter.

And who the heck is Gus Johnson? I never heard of him, but what a dork. He sounds on some of the play by play like he's trying to be a cross between John Wayne and Rod Serling. And great commentary. My QB drops back, and Gus says (in this really excited voice) "IT's A PASS!!!". Like, no S#@% Sherlock. I dont know why something so simple as reasonably intelligent commentary just seems to elude EA.

Having said all that,I must admit I find these failings do not really significantly diminish my enjoyment of the game play. If you can get past some of this stuff, it is highly entertaining. It should come with a gift card for anger management class though.

EDIT-have played a number of games and I have discovered that with a little slider tweaking, you can make the gameplay not so heavily offense-oriented and much, much more enjoyable. Check out the forums at

Where to begin... This game has taken a MAJOR step backward AGAIN this year. The Franchise mode is terrible (scouting is weak, signing players is time consuming and irritating, less tracking of statistics, interface is cumbersome, etc.). The AI is incredibly dumb, Games are typically 40-50 points per team on All-Pro. All-Madden is just as rediculous, yet even more frustrating with AI doing anything to stay "competitive..."

I rarely write such a poor review, and can chalk up a poor purchase without complaining about it. However, it just infuriates me that as soon as EA got NFL exclusivity, the Madden games have consistently gotten more and more unrealistic and downright less enjoyable to play. As a long time Madden buyer, I've dedicated some significant time to the Madden franchise over the years. However, post NFL exclusivity I find myself playing less and less. This was the first time I've purchased the game in three years. After a week of playing it, I wish I had waited another three. I should note, I'm no "fanboy" of one particular game or developer. I just feel paying $60+ for a game should result in some sort of improvement and satisfaction. I doubt anyone would be willing to pay $60 for some graphic improvements, updated (sort of) rosters and the addition of useless "gameplay" (which can't be turned off in Online play, actually making it more frustrating).

I've heard rumors that EA may be completely overhauling Madden 12, and I sincerely hope they do. As a child I would have cost my parents $60 for this trash. As an adult, I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. I just want to play "Madden." It may be titled Madden, but this isn't "Madden." My recommendation is you save your money and play Madden 2002, as it's seriously better than this years joke...

Edit: After owning this game for a few months, it has proven quite effective in preventing dust from getting on a small sliver of space in my dvd rack. Now priced at $40 it is a much more affordable "dust guard." On a serious note, why I haven't traded this game in is beyond me. Actually, maybe its because of the ridiculously low values u get for used sports games... sigh. And I love (sarcasm) how EA found one more way of screwing their customers by assigning codes to force 2nd hand owners to purchase online play. Ugh...

Maybe if we all start refusing to pay $60 for updated rosters we can send a message. Needless to say I will be doing my part in 2011.

I decided to give Madden a shot this year, and it was a huge mistake. In short, EA knows they have a cash cow and do everything very sloppy. There is no reason that NCAA Football come out a month earlier and always offers a more polished in game and out of game experience. This game has a shocking 2.5 star on amazon, and more people need to get the word out to NOT BUY THIS GAME AND FORCE EZ TO FIX THE FRANCHISE!!

First the short positives. The graphics are gorgeous, EA keeps perfecting and perfecting the look of real football and has this game looking fantastic. Also, the updated engine (a modified version of the FIFA engine) has the physics of the game looking much more believable and simulation-worthy. Last but not least is the 'locomotion' running game. The two stick running game is very intuitive and offers fantastic control whilst carrying the football. Unfortunately, my praise ends there.

Overall, Madden is a poor offering, and here's why. First of all, the haven't done anything with the franchise or superstar modes, both have been the same since virtually the PS2 era. The price is horrific for a yearly release title, and then to beat more money out of used game sales, they charge ten bucks if the online pass has been used just to play online. And while the physics are great, they still managed to pile on the legacy issues and unrealistic gameplay by 'warping' receivers making impossible catches, players dropping easy catches, and seemingly telegraphed picks/completions/runs, etc. My Madden 09 has the same problems and nothing has been done to correct them. The sloppy presentation is broken and illogical. Everything is very broken up on the commentary, there are slight robotic pauses in nearly everything Gus Johnson says. (i.e. they weren't willing to say 'first down', 'second down', and 'third down', but 'first', 'second', 'third', and 'down and piece them together.) Also dumb comments like Kevin kolb being one of the NFL's primere passers when he's barely played had me laughing. All-in-all the presentation and commentary is horrible, unless you like to listen to overly emphatic pitches for Old Spice (Be a man...MAN!). And also EA botched Ultimate Team badly. The mode that is great in FIFA in NHL is miserably handled in Madden, which just further shows the developers of Madden's laziness and carelessness. (i.e. they have a cash cow, so why bother?)

But my biggest beef with Madden is now that each game is just a pile of advertisements. Having sponsors of the game or ads on the field are fine, but every play of the game seems to have a sponsor. You're littered with ads from the stats, to the reviews, to the commentator. You really cannot get away from it. And now once you hit the two minute warning, it will take forever to get to the end. You've got to hear all about Verizon, Old Spice, Doritoes, Gatorade, and others. Every. Single. Game. It really hampers the fact you're playing a game and it's more like a chore to sift through advertisements.

All-in-all this year's Madden is bad. Really bad. The additions, sans the running game and engine, are handled poorly. The legacy issues are still there, so you should just play '08 or '09 where they still are there, but the advertisements are running rampant.

But in all honesty, EA has no reason to fix this game. It will still be the best selling sports game in the US, so they'll remain complacent and not fix things that have needed to be fixed and continue adding in more ads year after year. The only way to get them to fix this heralded franchise is to hit them in the wallet and DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!

Most everyone has played a game in the Madden series. That's exactly the problem with Madden 11: If you've played Madden in the last 5 years, you've played this one.

Graphically and in terms of gameplay, very little has changed in several years. Of course, a new feature or two is introduced each time around, but it's essentially the same game with a roster update. It feels as though EA is pushing everyone to online play, and forsaking all else.

Franchise and Be A Superstar modes are very shallow. In fact, they are even more shallow than they once were. There's very little fun to be had in Be A Superstar when you can't choose your team, you're locked into multiple seasons with the team that drafts you, and there's zero depth beyond playing the games.

I don't think I will be purchasing Madden in the future I owned Madden 11 for 2-3 days before trading it in. That was all the time it took for me to be "done" with it.

F.E.A.R. is a good game and I don't know why people are fussing so much. Now I have to agree with everybody that, yes the graphics were shocking and lacked the proper fruit of what the PS3 can dish out. The story line is not too enticing either. But the gameplay is astounding. I think that people can look past the polish and glitter aspects of a game and appreciate this one for its action-shooting thrills. The blood effects were very well developed. The art of every weapon is very well detailed. It may not be creepy, but can drive the imagination. All in all I think if you like action and shooting games F.E.A.R. will serve you plenty of fun.

I've been playing this for about 3 hours now and i have to say this game is worth every penny. I'm a big FPS fan and this is up there with Resistance. The game runs smoothly, load times arent too bad, and its just overall fun. The AI is very good and the scenery looks really good. The game itself is kind of creepy. I give the game 4 1/2 stars, it loses 1/2 a star for the maps, they can get kind of confusing sometime with not much help as to letting you know where to go, but if you wanted for a while you will figure it out. I recommend this game to anyone who likes this type of game, its definately worth it.

Despite the bad reviews of this game for the PS3, I think that it is a really good FPS game. There is really no difference from the other versions of the game except for this version has a new level and gun. I think that it was a great buy, and I am looking forward to purchasing F.E.A.R. 2 for the PS3. Oh and the slow motion is siiiick!

I have to agree with the general concensus. The graphics overall are 'eh' ok. I thought the graphics did get better further on in the game and they are enhanced when in 'focus or slomo' mode. It's not what I hoped it would be but once you master the techniques it is very fun to play. I would recommend renting it first but give it a chance. I'd say 3-5 hours of gameplay should tell you if it is a game for you. I've beaten it once and am playing through a second time on a harder setting. The story is interesting and there are a few creepy spots in the game. Play it in the dark late at night.:)

I bought the PC version a year or so ago. Started to play this scary game and then a few days later my computer crashed (for other reasons). I gave away my copy to my brother, since I no longer had a PC. Next I bought a copy for the PS3. Indeed the graphics do appear crappy compared to other versions. I quickly forgot about this because the gameplay is quite unique and captivating. Definitely a scary game with a fun story. The slowMo feature is a lot of fun too, you end up using it to get out of tight situations and makes you feel like someone from the Matrix (bullet time).

By now, you are familiar with the infamous Ninja Gaiden double-dip. Released a little over a year ago on the XBOX360, Ninja Gaiden II comes to the PS3 as Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

After a lengthy 8 minute install, you begin the game. The wait is made a little better (or worse, depending on your perspective) by a series of comic book stills with cheesy voices and sound effects while it's copying. The improvements are vast and numerous, starting with the graphics. As good as the 360 version was, Sigma 2 is better. Enemies are lavishly detailed, moves are flashy and spectacular with terrific lighting effects, and bosses are absolutely HUGE. Some levels, gameplay mechanics and enemies received small tweaks, and some are completely revamped. I beat the 360 version and now having completed Sigma 2, I can say that playing the PS3 version is almost like a new experience, especially because of the introduction of several new bosses, online play, mission mode, and 3 new playable characters: Momiji, Rachael, and Ayane. There are a total of 17 levels, 2 or 3 of which are totally new (1 level each for the playable characters). There is none of the slowdown that plagued the 360 version, although I noticed that some bodies now vaporize in order to save processing power. Story is pretty much nonsense and a lot less focused than Ninja Gaiden/Sigma, having you jump around the world, so just ignore it.

First of the changes is the oft-mentioned easier difficulty. I played on "Path of the Warrior" ("Path of the Acolyte" is the other starting difficulty) and found it very easy to defeat many of the bosses. You can just brute-force attack many of them and spam with the same moves over and over. This is how I defeated most of the bosses, even the later ones in the game. The last 3 bosses are especially easy. Arrows and projectiles are on auto-aim. Often you can just jump up and shoot blindly while facing in the direction of opponents. Pushing L1 also snaps to targets, making it very easy to kill attackers from a distance, especially those annoying archers or rocket launcher soldiers. Arrows (and all projectile weapons, including Ayane's exploding shuriken and Rachel's sub-machine gun) are now unlimited, removing a lot of the tactical decision-making and conserving you need to do. You can also move now while aiming, which is a plus. Gone are Ryu's windmill shuriken and incendiary shuriken. I miss the windmill shuriken.

Powering up your Ultimate Technique now is a lot faster it seems. The controls are very forgiving and don't require precise timing as they did in the past. Many of the combos also seem easier to execute and often times, I wonder if I've been triggering combo fatalities by accident. Items and save points are much more numerous. This is the first game in the series where I've actually had a problem with too many items. You can only carry a max of 3 of each of the restore items (small health restore, big health restore, magic restore). Items don't increase in price each time you buy them from Muramasa like they did before. Also, a big change is that he now upgrades your weapons for free. There is usually one or two upgrade statue per level. You can upgrade one weapon once per shop. Previous versions allowed you to upgrade whenever you wanted, as long as you had the money (very expensive), forcing you to save up and strive for more ultimate technique kills because they rewarded you with more essence. The abundance of items and the free upgrades makes collecting essence now rather pointless, because you'll have all this money but nothing to buy. Lastly, load times after dying have been greatly reduced to a few seconds, removing a lot of frustration experienced by players in previous NG games. The downside is that menu load times are inordinately long. If you find a magic scroll or technique scroll, it can take several seconds for the demo video to load, and several seconds after pushing X to close the screen.

Next is the toned-down violence. The menu system is now painted blue instead of red blood splatters. Arms, legs and heads can get chopped off, but they disappear in a wisp of blue ether instead of rolling onto the floor. In the 360 version, heads rolled everywhere and buckets of blood sprayed out from severed limbs. It's all gone here.

New bosses include a giant Buddhist statue at the end of the first level, a pair of tengu, and even the Statue of Fricking Liberty! Some of the bosses have their special attacks removed and made a lot less aggressive about attacking and blocking. You no longer have to time attacks perfectly. Just button mash.

Thankfully, a lot of the "cheap" moments players complained about from Sigma are gone. The piranha ghost fish are still here though, but those extremely annoying exploding jellyfish are gone. Gone also is the ridiculous ability to swim in lava. "Invisible walls" are also a lot less apparent. In the previous game, areas that looked like you could walk around are unreachable, destroying the illusion of depth. In Sigma 2, it's not as noticeable.

Weapons are fun to use, with some being very flashy and cool to see in action, like the tonfa, which turns Ryu into a lethal whirlwind of skull and limb cracking goodness. I don't ever get tired of powering up Ryu and seeing him go berserk on a group of bad guys. Locales include a futuristic Tokyo, NYC, Venice, South America, Mt. Fuji, some non-descript sewers and tunnels of hell or some other demonic dimensional warp. Sky City Tokyo is beautiful and lovingly rendered. NYC is less so. Times Square, Brooklyn, and Liberty Island look bland and inauthentic (because I live here). Some of the levels feel recycled directlty from Sigma (Airship Daedalus = airship stage from previous, Draga Dai = Vigoor city, sewers, lava levels).

Verdict:

Are all the gameplay changes good? No. Is Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 fun? Yes, without a doubt. I enjoyed playing the new sexy female characters and the mission mode. It's a shame you can't play the entire game as one of the girls and you lose all your weapons when you begin a new game. One of the weirdest, most juvenile and sexist things you can do is jiggle the girls' goodies with the SIXAXIS.

Replaying on Path of the Mentor (unlocked by beating the game), I found it a lot harder and I got killed several times on level 1 by even minor enemies. They are a lot more lethal and harder to kill. Too bad this difficulty wasn't available at the very beginning to choose from. Chapter Mode also opens up, which lets you choose any chapter to replay.

All in all, a fun game with good replay value, and I'm glad I bought it. It's a stunning display of the PS3's capabilities and a blast to play as everyone's favorite ninja.

My rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I almost bought an Xbox 360 just to play Ninja Gaiden 2.

Luckily, if you only have a PS3 you can have this not-so-new, but improved game. I'm a huge fan of the series and this one bears the Ninja Gaiden name proudly. You can get an overview of the game in better places then my review, so I'll just get to the point:

Game looks and plays fantastic. No slowdown, which 360 owners were reporting, but just a minor occurence of screen-tearing, barely noticeable and does not affect the experience.

Difficulty. This is no easy game, but it's by far the easiest Ninja Gaiden I ever played. Veterans will find their challenge in difficulty settings that will get unlocked after you play through the game the first time. Newcomers to the series will enjoy the action without smashing their controllers when playing on Alcolyte and Warrior modes offered from the beginning. I think it was a smart decision on part of developers.

Blood and Gore. Many people have complained about the removal of over-the-top blood and gore that Ninja Gaiden 2 on Xbox was famous for. I'd say the level of depiction of violence in Sigma 2 is on par with Sigma 1 some blood, but nothing like the Xbox version. What I don't understand is why this game is still rated M.

New Characters. These are actually fun to play with, not just thrown in for the sake of putting them on the game cover.

In short, I recommend this to anyone who likes action games. Previous Ninja Gaiden games were not for everyone due to their crushing difficulty. The only exception to my recommendation: if you already played Ninja Gaiden 2 on Xbox, you may not find that this game is worth the full price. If not get it, it's one of the best games this year.

I have been looking forward to this release ever since I first heard it was coming out at this year's E3. I own an Xbox 360 and Ninja Gaiden II is still my favorite game for that system.

I still play the Xbox version like it was new, so when I heard an exclusive expanded version was coming out for the just reduced price PlayStation 3 120 GB, I had to buy both the system

and the game the day it came out. Since I own both versions, I wanted to compare both and let owners of both consoles decide if this latest version is worth picking up.

First, the Xbox version has better graphics for the most part. Some character models on the PS3 version have been improved, which is nice, but the backgrounds which were highly detailed on the Xbox 360

version are slightly downgraded here. For most, this wont be an issue, but I wanted to point it out. There were slowdown issues on the Xbox 360 version and the only time my PS3 game slowed down, was when

I was awarded a trophy during in game play, otherwise, the PS3 version is clean and fast paced. Sigma in many ways has improved the game over it's original Xbox 360 version. Some of the levels have been

redesigned and have better layouts than in the Xbox version. Also, lame bosses from the Xbox version have been replaced with all new enemies that are a million times more fun to fight than the previous bosses.

For example, the two gold dragons at the end of Chapter 9 have been replaced with one awesome looking black dragon. The double armadillo fight from Chapter 12 has been replaced with a new fiend, awesome!

Enough has been changed from the Xbox 360 version to keep veteran players like myself on our toes. Enemies you're use to facing in one section of the game, have been replaced with others, that kind of thing.

Plus, the ability to play important side missions as Rachel, Ayane and Momiji really add to the game. For example, in Ayane's segment you get to play as her and discover how she obtained the jewel she gives

Ryu to create the true dragon sword, cool stuff! Playing as the female characters makes me wonder why Tecmo has never released an action game staring the female characters from DOA, it would

be great to see that someday.

There have also been several surprising subtractions from the original Xbox 360 game, the biggest is the reduction in blood and gore. All blood and gore have been removed from the cut scenes

and while there is still a little bit of blood present during battles, most of it has been replaced with what I can only describe as a magic purple mist. Basically, the game went from reminding me of Kill Bill Vol. 1, to

an episode of Inuyasha. The game has a more anime feel to it now because of it, while the original was more visceral and pulled the player in. Also missing are: Incendiary Shurikens for Ryu (Ayane has them), the Tests

of Valor (one of my favorite things about the original game) and the ability to save your Spirit of the Devils, Lives of the Gods and Lives of the Thousand Gods items. They are now used as soon as you find them instead of

being able to save them and use them at will. Also, one of the original game's coolest moments has been watered down. Remember the massive fight against a seemingly never ending horde of ninjas up the steps to the temple

in Chapter 10? Well, it's not quite such a horde now, it's more like just a few dozen guys. Now, I'm hoping the number of ninjas increases as the difficulty goes up, but who knows?

I've beaten the game on Acolyte and I've gotta tell you, it's a million times easier now. Maybe it will get harder as I defeat the other difficulties, but I'm shocked at how much easier this game is. When I saw the credits,

I understood why. Tomonobu Itagaki was absent from the credits. Itagaki quit or was fired from Tecmo, depending on who you believe, last year and he was responsible for designing the DOA & Ninja Gaiden games, along with

Team Ninja, for Tecmo. He was very adamant about how difficult his games should be, some say he took it too far, and I guess Tecmo agreed because it's a cake walk now. I proudly defeated Master Ninja mode on Ninja Gaiden

2 on the Xbox, so to see the game become so easy now is a little bit of a let down, but hopefully it will get more challenging. With the Sigma version, the playing field has been leveled out. For example, you can now hit Genshin

with magic, the drawback is that now he uses it on you as well. The designers must have thought the Eclipse Scythe was too powerful because now it takes more than one ultimate attack to bring down characters that previously

only took one. And characters that could come close to killing you with one of their combos, now only take away a small amount of health. So, this is radically different from Itagaki's original vision, for better or worse. If you're

like me and enjoyed the challenge of the original, you may be disappointed. If you played the original 360 version and was frustrated beyond belief with it, here's your chance to simply enjoy the game without wanting to smash

your controller.

With all that said, let's pretend for a moment that there was never an Xbox 360 version. So, is this a great game? Absolutely! PS3 owners craving some hardcore ninja action should pick this one up asap. It's one of the most action

packed and addictive games I've ever played and wont disappoint! The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the subtractions that were made from the Xbox version. Otherwise it would've been perfect!

However, if you also own an Xbox 360 and have this game, the addition of the 3 new playable characters, new game modes and overall changes may not justify your purchase, but I was very pleased overall with the game.

As far as action games go, I consider Ninja Gaiden games to be definately the best as far as not only have the controls responsive but delivering an actually fun combat system that, to coin a really old cliche, is easy to learn but hard to master. Well, I wouldn't say easy to learn because one thing people fully well know about Ninja Gaiden is that these games are tough, maddeningly and frustratingly tough at times and more than once you will yell and you will want to throw your controller. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was basically a more HD version of the original and Black from the original Xbox and Sigma 2 is the same thing only it deals with Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360. The game hasn't gotten a huge overhaul so much as the occasional re-tooling as far as difficulty, enemy encounters and even certain mechanics but like Ninja Gaiden 2, Team Ninja has a habit of sneaking in things that sour the experience. Not enough to fully ruin the game of course but it does make it a release that's still not as fully perfect as it should despite the second try with Sigma 2.

Story: Ninja Gaiden games aren't that well known for their stories and we have a tale concerning the Archfield, a really powerful demon from way back when, Ryu and the Dragon Lineage's ties to it, the Black Spider Clan and the 4 Greater Fiends as well as Sonia, a CIA agent Ryu works with. Unlike the original, Sigma 2 allows 3 new characters to play as in addition to new missions for them: Momiji from Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for the Nintendo DS, Ayane from the Dead or Alive series and Rachel from Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Graphics: The original wasn't really a graphically stunning game but there were certain sections that did stand out but the main draw is the character animation for all the characters from their move lists, special abilities and the Ultimate Techniques where they completely go off on an enemy or 2 (or 3). They're smooth and fluid and just look cool. As for the backgrounds, they're just okay. They're really barren and it's only in certain stages does it really get shown off. As far as slowdown was concerned or framerate dips, I barely saw any though the "now loading" screen did pop up quite a bit. One last thing: the gore is still present but it's not as obvious. Meaning when you decapitate an enemy, you will cut off their head but it's not going to be as obvious as it was on the Xbox 360, instead the blood is replaced by purple mist.

Sound/Music: Not exactly the most stellar soundtrack but it does its job well though I doubt anyone would wanna buy the OST for it. The voice acting is workable but in games like this or Valkyria Chronicles which add the option to use either English dub or Japanese with subtitles well, I always picked the subs. The sound effects are also quite visceral and the sound the Tonfas make when smacking against the enemies is just awesome but thanks to the changed gore, slices and dices don't have the satisfying kick when you know your moves are really doing damage on people but oh well.

Gameplay: Gameplay remains largely unchanged: you get weak and strong attacks with various combos to use (I highly recommend learning the Izuna Drop for each weapon, it'll come in handy a lot), Obliteration techniques where you permanently kill a de-limbed enemy and Ultimate Techniques where you charge up and you can unleash a really powerful attack on an enemy or a group. The on-landings are back (thank god) but the bow UT's are not (boo). One thing that has been changed though is enemy encounters so for example in one level instead of fighting those weird steel fish things they'll be...nothing but then what should've been a simple fight against normal werewolves will have a different fight altogether against something new so it keeps you on your toes since you can't go "okay this is where those guys show up and....wait, where'd they go?" and when you least expect, boom, enemies.

Certain other things have been altered as well: essence, which is basically your money, is strictly for items like potions, magic-refilling mushrooms and revival scrolls. Your weapon upgrades instead of being tied into essence is free, the change being you can only upgrade one at a time. So no longer can you upgrade 2 handy weapons, you have to choose: upgrade this guy...or that guy? Arrows are now infinite and some boss fights have been altered a bit and there's even some new ones. It was strange fighting a boss and wondering "why was he so easy?" and suddenly I get attacked by the Statue of Liberty (and no I'm not kidding) which turned out to be surprisingly hard and I went "ah, that's why". Unfortunately, Team Ninja didn't want to completely nerf the game so we have certain bosses that still feel cheap like Momiji going up against 2 guys at once with incredibly powerful attacks and while I thought this game was supposed to fix the move spamming from NG2, 2 bosses in a row literally did their most powerful attacks back to back without any pause.

Another big new addition is Team Missions, the co-op aspect of the game where you and computer-controlled AI or an online buddy take on enemies for high scores. It's quite fun and with the ability to play as any of the 4 characters, it's a blast but not really revolutionary for the series and probably won't have big lasting appeal unless you're a high-score seeker. However there's one flaw in this is that you can't filter incoming fight requests by region so you can literally be fighting with a guy from halfway around the world and you're going to have lag like you've never been lagged before. I do have 2 complaints aside from the aforementioned cheapness of some bosses. One is that the camera is still not that dependable and more than once I almost lost because I couldn't see whoever jumped on me because he was offscreen and 2 is that the game for some reason wants you to be on PSN the whole time and if you sign out or your connection briefly goes, it literally cuts you off and brings you back to the title screen so you could be playing on Master Ninja, about to get to a save point and BZZT, your internet connection decides to screw with you and you're sent back to the menu. Unbelievably frustrating this is and a really stupid move on Team Ninja's part.

I still consider Ninja Gaiden Sigma to be the most balanced of all the games. If I was terrible at that game it wasn't because of cheap AI or BS attacks or glitchy programming but it's because I needed to improve. Sigma 2 on the other hand is waaaaay more balanced than the original Ninja Gaiden 2 but there's still a couple of moments that stand out as being strangely difficult despite the toned-down difficulty. But if you want that visceral satisfying action, arguably nobody does it better than Team Ninja.

I consider myself a pretty decent FIFA 09 player and immediately bought FIFA 10 when it came out, hoping that improvements made to a top-notch game would make the new game flat out amazing. After playing a few games against my real life friends and online strangers, I am not sure if I like "10" or "9" better. My biggest disappointment in the new game is that IMO, the graphics did not improve at all or maybe even gotten worse. Maybe I am imagining it but the width of the goal looks smaller. Of course, this shouldn't affect gameplay at all but it just feels like I am looking at a smaller target. The improvements in the gameplay is subtle but nevertheless clearly different with defenders having a chance against the supermen (eg. Ronaldo) of the game, making the game more defense-oriented and somewhat harder to score. Some of the differences I noticed so far:

1. Throughball doesn't work automatically unless there is a developing play where a throughball is the best play. In `09', you could just randomly throughball and somehow the offensive player would end up with the ball with a near breakaway too often.

2. Defenders are positioned much better so defense is easier to play. Also, because stars like Ronaldo can't just run away from the pack when they have the ball, defenders will have a better chance as long as they are in a good position. But the improvement in defensive positioning also resulted in heavy traffic near the goal where the play seemed a little bit clustered. At times, the phrase pinball action came to mind when it became clustered like that.

3. The view when the GK has a goal kick or instances where you have a corner, the view has changed to a more zoomed view and less overhead perspective. I personally didn't like this change due to the change in depth perception, making it harder for me to judge the players' positioning.

4. The collision physics is much more realistic and players actually bounce off each other in more realistic fashion.

5. It is much easier to bend the ball, maybe too much. On several corner kicks, I had kicks bend too much that the ball was no where near the goal almost half way between the penalty box and the half line.

6. Overall, the offensive player is forced to put together a well constructed attack and rely on crisp passing and play development more than relying on the speed and power of players like Ronaldos and the Etos.

7. The online play is smoother and when playing ranked games, the skill points is calculated after each game and displayed for you to see, showing you how the points were calculate. This was a very nice feature for someone who plays online as much as I do.

One thing that didn't change:

My number one pet peeve for '09: The number of shots hitting the goal post per game is way too much. I was hoping that this would change, but so far, the occurrence of shots hitting the goal post is still way too frequent and unrealistic.

Overall, I would say '10 is more realistic but not necessarily more fun to this veteran of '09. I definitely think '10 is a great game but I will not be getting rid of my `09' right away because they play different enough for me to consider it two different games

UPDATE: 11/5/09

So after playing for a few more weeks, I will say that I am appreciating the subtle differences between '09 and '10. I really like the new collision mechanism. It is realistic enough so that I often thwarted the other players attack by just getting in the way of the opposing team's players who don't have the ball to deny their space when there is a pass directed toward them. I have also experienced the advantage of 360 degree control as I manuever my player with the ball. Definitely a solid improvement over '09.

UPDATE: 11/23/09

A huge negative has popped up for with this game. Goalie AI. Maybe it's not even AI. Glitch is more like it. The goalie in '10 is worse than in '09. I suppose goalies making errors should be expected since a real life goalie would make can make mistakes too. But goalies have a much harder time handling shots that are directed right at them if it's low. Goalies are allowing shots that are literally next to their legs. (The animation in replay suggests that the goalie, instead of stopping the shot by moving a little to the left or the right, instead tries to squat down and tries a mini dive save on a shot. That allows the shots to go under them.

What is infuriating is that given the number of great opportunities that end in a shot off the goal post if you try to aim for one of the corners of the goal, the way the goalie allows this cheap score, it's a huge imbalance. Goalies that leap like panthers to save shots 10 feet away or sure goals that somehow the computer directs right at the goal post yet the goalie can't save balls hit next to them. What's up with that?

UPDATE: 11/30/09

I don't know what I was thinking by not mentioning this. In FIFA '09, (and I call this just plain stupid on EA's part),they didn't include a practice mode. Sure, you could pratice your skill moves 1on1 with the goalie, but that too was not that helpful because no one would play an actual match in that perspective, thus making you learn the skill moves one way but then have to make adjustments to the stick work. In FIFA '10, there actuall is a practice mode and a pretty darned good one at that. You can set the practice match to have as many offensive and defensive players as you want. You want to practice breakaways? 1 offensive player vs. goalie only. 5 vs. 4, 5 vs. 3. Any combination you want to hone your offensive skills. Also, you can actually practice set-pieces (FK and corners) the way it would be in the game with real defenders. By practice in this mode, I can score on about a 1/3 of my FKs inside 30 yards because I know what kick with how much power to execute. (The other 2/3 of my FKs bounce off the goal post, LOL.) If you are serious about being a good FIFA player, this practice mode will let you maximize your chances.

This review is mostly aimed towards the PES crowd, because I myself was a PES fanboy. The Winning Eleven/Pro Evo series is probably my most played series of video games ever. When I was little, me and my friends were all huge fans of the Pro Evo series. I was a hardcore follower of the series and I always regard it as the most realistic soccer game series ever made. The FIFA series, on the other hand, was completely out of the radar. I did play some of the older FIFA games and it just reminds myself how great the PES series are. It is just beyond my imagination that any other soccer game would surpass the magnificent PES series as an overall package.

After being disappointed by the franchise's recent offerings, I decided to give FIFA 10 a shot. It was a desperate move that I had been considering for some time. I was just looking for something to recover from the terrible disaster that is PES 2008. Thanks to PSN, I was able to get an impression of the game before I dig into my pockets. I jumped into the demo with little expectations and played an exhibition match. The first word that came to mind was 'brilliant'. I didn't think twice and purchased the game soon after. I was amazed by how much the series has evolved. The fluidity of movements and animations were very pleasing to the eyes. The controls were rather confusing at first, but I guess it's just something that I'm not used to. The jump from PES was rather difficult because the gameplay in FIFA is more complex. If you play like PES and expect a star player to dribble your way to goal, you'll lose the ball quickly. You are expected to pass a lot and play like a team. Scoring a goal in FIFA gives me a greater feeling of satisfaction. If you're willing to dedicate time to learn FIFA, it would be a rewarding experience.

Now that I played FIFA, I really can't look at the PES series the same way again. I downloaded the demo of PES 10 a couple of days ago and I'm really sad to admit that PES is definitely inferior in terms of realism. Although it is a major over PES'08, it's still the same game with better graphics. I'd still consider buying it because the majority of my friends still play it. I couldn't really say that I'm a FIFA/PES fanboy. I'm sure that competition is good and I look forward to the next installment of FIFA/PES. Moral of the story is, don't be a fanboy.

I'm the guy that watched a few World Cup games, got the bug for some soccer and picked up FIFA 10. I'm about 30 games in and find the game to be brilliant and an excellent change of pace from the usual sports games.

Coming into the game I literally knew nothing about "real football". So some homework was in order. Online guides and several Wiki searches on the leagues, the players and how everything works were in order. From transfers to salaries to tactics to the actual on the field rules, I started from scratch. After that, you have to learn the controls of the actual game, which are like most EA sports games in that you can increase or decrease the level of control & difficulty to your liking. The controls CAN BE very complex, but the default controls and use of the practice modes make the game pretty quick to learn. The controls are also spot on, so you always feel like you're in control (unlike playing as a lineman in Madden). It also has awesome collision detection. You can run into a player and the AI reactions are amazing. Once you actually learn the nuiances of the passing and shooting game (which I'm admittedly not close to) FIFA 10 plays like a dream.

Overall, I've found the game to be much easier than Madden or MLB:The Show. Once I got a grip on how the attacking formations worked and switching strategies on the fly, it was pretty simple. You are only allowed 3 subs per game (versus 22 on a football field that come and go or pitching rotations and line up switches), so the game as a whole is much easier to manage. It also requires a lot more patience than a Madden or NBA Live. You have to let the action unfold, make smart passes and really set up your goal chances to have success. When playing with a powerhouse, like Manchester United, goals can come easy, but playing as the MLS' Houston Dynamo is an entirely different story.

I have very few complaints. The graphics animate well, but the players look like plastic a common complaint of EA games. The menus react slow and the load times are long. There is also very little in the way of explanations for transfers and the managing system just seems a little sloppy. If there are "money" plays or exploits in the game itself, I'm not aware of them, but that has more to do with my general lack of knowledge in the sport. I do think that the controls on the cross passes are little crazy and often find myself controlling the wrong player in scrums around the goalie box.

Being that the season is over and FIFA 11 is not too far off, you may want to wait to pick it up. I didn't pay full retail for the copy I got but honestly, the global rosters being updated means very little to me. I got it for the game itself and have to say I am really pleased. FIFA 10 is wonderful and I find myself becoming a genuine "footie" fan.

I didn't know what to expect at first as far as improvements but the control upgrades have changed the game. We still sneak a few games of '09 at work in when we have a break and you can really feel how clunky the controls were and how dynamic they are now.

I love it

Only warning is be prepared to practice. This isn't a simple sprint and breakaway game. Learning the new moves is what makes the experience

This is the best soccer game I've ever played. It is very realistic and offers a lot of possibilities. The previous soccer game I played was Fifa 09 in the Wii, then switched to Fifa 10 in ps3. I must say it was a gigantic change, but it was for good in the end. When I started playing it I felt like I was trapped and was never going to master the game, it was just too hard for me. But if you really try and take time to master the game you will feel how it's just awesome in almost every aspect. It offers hours and hours of fun, even more when playing with friends. I've passed a lot of time playing it and hasn't gotten old.

Graphically it is very well polished. I must say that it can look better when you have a closer look of the players, ball, field, etc, than when you have a wide view. Some things might be too colorful in my opinion, but they still look good.

I think the best thing the game has is the playability. Being able to make tricks, various shots & passes gives the game a lot of depth. Something I like is that there is nothing scripted, like certain movement you do will always work. You can always be stopped or miss, it's not like the old soccer games where you could have certain formulas for scoring or getting the ball.

The things I don't like is that sometimes the responsiveness when making a second player run is not too fast. Also the 1 on 1 online multiplayer is very difficult to connect with other player, even when trying to play with friends. That's not the case of the team multiplayer though, that is very easy to access. Also sometimes the passes don't go where you want 'em, but you get the aim of it with practice, though it still happens even when you have experience but not very often.

Overall an excellent game. So if you want a realistic soccer game this must be it.
