I keep hearing how the PS3 is largely void of role-playing games and that the genre is ignored in favor of more popular shooters. While the latter might be somewhat true, games like Eternal Sonata prove that quality RPGs are on the PS3.

For a longtime RPG fan Eternal Sonata is a bit of a strange game at least in the sense that I've never quite played a game like it before. First, the setting takes place in Europe in the 1800's and revolves around the pianist Frederic Chopin. The game is part tribute to Chopin and part fantasy. In the game Chopin has fallen ill and in his unconscious state creates a dream world. This is where the player will spend the majority of their time.

In the dream world people who can use magic are all terminally ill non magic users are rightfully terrified of those with magical abilities. Set in a land called Forte with a ruler named Count Waltz the game introduces a rag tag group of characters each with their own motivations for change. Eventually the characters will form an alliance and rise against the forces threatening their world. Periodically the game will shift back to "reality" where Chopin lies ill and introduce brief historical highlights of Chopin's life.

Because the obvious musical influence music plays a large part in the game. Each of the characters in named after various musical influences, additionally the player will collect pieces of "set pieces" of musical scores that combined with NPCs can net the player special items. The soundtrack to the game itself is brilliant and one of the best musical scores I've ever heard in a video game.

Combat is an interesting mix of action and turn-based. The player is given an action gauge in which you have a set amount of time to perform your attacks. Attacks are broken down to physical attacks, item based attacks or special attacks. Each successful hit builds a combo meter that when unleashed with a special attack causes more damage. Build up the combo meter enough and you can unleash a special animation with your attack.

An interesting twist to the combat is that as you progress in the game the combat mechanics level up too. This serves to both increase the difficulty and your party's abilities. For example when you start the game the action meter only counts down when you're moving on the combat map and executing attacks. Stand still and the meter will stop. This allows for a new player to take time and think actions out beforehand without pressure. Later the time meter will not only give you less time to act but also start counting down from the moment you take your first step and won't stop until the timer runs out. On the other hand your "item bag" where you store items to use in combat will upgrade from the initial 10 points (each item has a point value) to 20 points and eventually more. I found this a very refreshing take on combat!

The graphics themselves are amazing. Eternal Sonata is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. Some might be disappointed at the 720p resolution of the game. But let me put those fears aside this game is gorgeous from the get-go.

If I had to pick a few things I don't like about the game it would easily have to be the voice overs and very linear gameplay. Not all the voice overs are bad, some are actually quite good. However, certain characters Polka have such childish voices and mannerisms that it's near unbearable. The good news is that the game does feature the ability to turn on the Japanese voice overs and play the game with English subtitles.

The linear gameplay, well love it or hate, it's different for everyone. Personally I've love the ability to explore the amazing world of Eternal Sonata on my own terms rather than follow and linear path. But I understand not every game is about massive exploration.

File Eternal Sonata under "overlooked gem". Don't be one of those players that passes up on the game because it's a port of the X360 original or is turned of by the look. Eternal Sonata is worthy of any RPG-lovers time.

3.5/5 (Rounded up, It's a story thing) Imagine a fantasy fan-fic of Chopin's dying days. You might imagine something along the lines of Eternal Sonata...but it's not likely. Its seems to me like what might come of a less successful collaboration between Tri-Ace and Level 5. It's an action-y JRPG. It has a Level 5 look and sound to it. I'll try and be concise.

I enjoyed the game. The world and characters are colorful and beautifully cell-shaded. The cast is also cute and mostly kid-friendly even by conservative standards just the occasional "damn" in there, some sparkly violence, and your run of the mill maniacal bad guy wanting to rule the world. You'll solve a few puzzles and the battle system has a fun, beat 'em up combo, timed, turn-based style. Your attacks and spells also change, as assigned by you, according to whether you are standing in shade or light. As the game progresses, your "Party Level" will increase making battle slightly more difficult. A couple of fun little anomalies in this style. The game is broken up into chapters and each one comes with a song and a bit of Chopin's story. I was glad to see a game try to encourage musical enrichment. It offers secret dungeons later in the game and a New Game + feature after you've beaten it to replay the game with your party level (not character levels) in tact and a couple of secrets inaccessible the first play through. These features see an increase in difficulty of combat and a few more puzzles.

On the other hand, coming from someone who doesn't blink at, sometimes laughs at, the more mature content of many/most games, gamers who don't enjoy anything with mega-blok (it is spelled that way) edges may want to avoid this game. I meant the bit about being kid-friendly. The characters speak rather slowly and everything is overly dramatic. In the world of JRPG's that's just something that comes with the territory. You might enjoy it at times but roll your eyes at others. It is a very linear game. If you want something sandbox-like, this is not your game. Although I wouldn't call the game hard, the battles can sometimes prove a little challenging for experienced gamers, especially some of the bosses and more so in Encore mode (though nothing like the shock of Star Ocean's Gabriel Celeste or Ethereal Queen).

Now, story-wise I must say it's not so great. It's convoluted and kind of confusing. The characters are your basic cookie-cutter archetypes. You probably won't play for story unless the words "save the world" still do it for you or you are one of our younger or younger-hearted gamers (Which is fine, of course. Along with a lot of other users, I guess I'm just a little too jaded to be able to enjoy it as much).

If you've played Dark Cloud 1 or 2, the Star Ocean series, or Rogue Galaxy a few things might resonate with your memories of them (Though I honestly think I enjoyed all of those titles a little more than this.)

Ultimately, I enjoyed the game. It has a nice, innocent energy about it. The world and characters are pretty and colorful. The music is Chopin or Chopin inspired and sounds great with the option to listen from the camp menu. You get to learn a little bit about him. You can skip cut-scenes if you don't care about the story. It has replay value with Encore mode and extra little goodies. It lacks trophies on PS3 (though it also comes with a couple of characters not on the Xbox 360 version). It's not expensive. It's a cute JRPG. I didn't love it, but I did like it. If you've made it far enough to read this, try it. You've not got much to lose and you might enjoy it.

If you're looking for a game that will keep you playing just for the story look no further. The strongest feature in this game is the plot, featuring a small but well developed cast of characters and story that will keep you interested from start to finish. The gameplay follows a standard "button masher" formula similar the Kingdom Hearts or God of War series.

Despite the lack of ingenuity in how this interactive story is played, I have found it to still be an incredibly immersive experience due to the richness of both story and graphics. On that note, the graphics deserve a special mention as this is an incredibly beautiful game (google screenshots to see for yourself).

Is this game worth buying? Definitely. Is this game worth $60, well that depends on if you are more interesting in the storytelling portion of the interactive storytelling experience games provide. If you've enjoyed titles such as Heavy Rain, Psychonauts, and/or the Mass Effect trilogy where the plot is the selling point of the game, then I would recommend buying this game as soon as possible. If not, then I would recommend waiting until the price drops down to something more reasonable before purchasing it.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is an action adventure game from developer Team Ninja that attempts to re-imagine the ancient Chinese story Journey to the West with a bit of future apocalyptica flare.

You follow the story of a young tech girl named Trip and a battle-hardened vagabond named Monkey. After escaping from a slave ship, Monkey must escort Trip safely back to the village she was kidnapped from, whether he wants to or not. Set in a time where free men struggle to survive in a world dominated by the homicidal mechanical ruins of a long ended war, you must run, jump, and smash your way through crumbling cities and clockwork goliaths to reach your goal.

I had a lot of fun playing Enslaved and can honestly say that I fully enjoyed the experience. That experience, however, has to be taken with a grain of salt. Do not purchase this game expecting a deep gameplay experience. It is very straight forward. Run and hit things. That's pretty much it. The battle system mainly boils down to pressing the attack button repeatedly while intermittently tapping a dodge button. There are some more aspects involved but nothing really game changing. Outside of combat, the game has a heavy focus on parkour-style exploration. However, this feature is noticeably shallow. Rather than preforming any button combinations that may require mental and reflexive dexterity, you simply run toward the object in front of you and tap jump, and your character takes care of the rest. Hell, you don't even have to guess at where to go next, because that area will be lit up brightly just in case you stopped to wonder if you had to go anywhere but straight for once. Level designs are straightforward, with exploration only ever really extending as far as 'there is a path that veers slightly to the right, lemme check there for something new'. This isn't going to scratch your adventure game explorer itch the way say, Ocarina of Time may have.

That being said, this game is enjoyable so long as you don't go into it expecting more than it is capable of offering. It is beautiful. The graphics are fantastic, and the world Monkey and Trip travel through is at times breath-taking. Sapphire blue skies that reach out to the horizon, as well as lovingly detailed urban environments with the lush greens of invasive nature are the staple of this game. I often found myself stopping and playing with the camera angles just to get a look at the world the developers had crated. The level design is also fantastic. Yes, they usually are straightforward, but the complexity of the scenery and architecture around you will quickly help you forget that you are essentially traveling down a convoluted corridor the whole time.

Another winning point for this game is the characters. At first they seem rather cookie-cutter at first: the strong hero tasked with protecting the weak, but support-effective girl, and the third wheel comedic relief. While they do fill these roles rather typically, their personalities, dialogue, and voice acting truly set them apart and above other video game casts to date. Also, the game has a very subtle sense of humor that took me completely by surprise. I found myself at several moments bursting with laughter at dialogue and cutscenes that were delivered with such perfectly unexpected comedic timing. The motion capture is phenomenal, and by the end of the relatively short campaign you will feel a true sense of humanity from each of the heroes. Speaking of the end, I was pleasantly surprised by that as well. Without spoiling anything for you, be prepared for the game to end with a twist that is both unexpected and slightly unsettling.

All in all, if you're a fan of adventure games and can appreciate a title for its good points without it being some ground-breaking achievement, get this game. However, don't you dare pay full price for it. Nothing more than $30 is acceptable. If you do find it for cheap though, jump on it. So long as you dive into the game without expecting it to give you things it can't promise you should be able to garner a sense of appreciation for it, as I have.

Ok, so everybody, even most of the negative reviews, rave about the story, graphics, and voice acting. I also agree with all of these points. Where I differ with most is about the gameplay.

I am a trophy hunter. Once I start a game, I cannot move on to another without seeing that platinum trophy pop up in the upper right hand corner of my TV. There have been few exceptions to that rule. Even those exceptions get completed to platinum with time. Taking that into mind, I delve as deep into each game as I possibly can.

There is no way you can button mash through this game if you are trying to get the platinum. There are a lot of trophies (49 of which 17 are completed by beating the game on hard) that require you to actually use cunning and skill. Sure, if all you want to do is beat the game, throw it on easy and enjoy some button mashing. However, I started my first play through on hard. You will quickly find out that button mashing will not get you through the hard difficulty without making you go bald. Wait until you are button mashing on some robot while three others are running in to pummel you for your horrible tactics. Or you say, "Hey look! There are a few robots just sitting there. Oh, wait, wait! Oh GOD DAMNIT!!!" You just got owned by three machine gun robots in the distance because you weren't cautious.

As far as you needing to or not needing to think of where to go next, try finding 100% of those tech orbs without thinking of every possible way the developers could have hidden those tiny red dots. They exploit every camera angle and every millimeter of playing area they can to make sure you don't have an easy time finding them. They even throw a few wrenches into the whole operation that will make you say, "WTF! I haven't had to do anything like that up to this point to find an orb."

Those are just two prime examples of how I differ from the rest of these opinions. There are more than a couple more dozen reason I could point out that the gameplay is spectacular.

Maybe there aren't that many trophy hunters out there who might appreciate what I am talking about but, I figured I'd put in my two cents anyways.

Highly recommended!

Bought it on a whim, played it straight through in two nights (which I never do). Scenic graphics, immersive story, great characters, smooth action (minimal button mashing), fun high speed platforming (impossible to fall off), rewards exploring by finding items to boost character (rpg-like tweaking), epic ending with a very memorable ending. Very minor glitches (when compared to over hyped games like Skyrim).

Have no idea why this game never got the notoriety, but it is a sleeper hit in my book.

Enslaved odyssey to the west is an action adventure game. As the main protagonist of the game, you are a person enslaved by the slavers with an unknown name. You call your self "monkey" not much of the story is unveiled until you reach close to the end of the game. Your first task it to break free from a slaver ship, team up with a girl name Trip and start on your grueling adventure to discover the past and find out just why the slavers have enslaving your world and why the world has been transformed into nothing but machines and mechanized monsters. Though the premise of the story sounds interesting, i felt as though it could of added alot more depth, instead the over all story ends up being to simple and not as engaging as I would of hoped.

This game has certain levels, separated by "chapters" in the game that you must complete. There are 14 chapters in all. The game it self is a pretty short game. Roughly 5-10 hrs depending upon how fast you rush through the game. The mechanics of the game is your ordinary action game where you use different attack combinations to unleash devastating assaults against your enemy. What sets this game apart from other action adventure titles is there is a degree of strategy involved. You can't just accept to go rushing into battle and hack and slash your way through. If you do you will die very fast. You must use trips many abilities such as her hacking skills to get past doorways or her ability to see bombs if your to get through the game unscathed. Together you and trip are like one and should always use her assistance to get through most scenario's in the game.

The battle mechanics are kind of interesting but do end being repetitive after a while. The combinations and attack pasterns really don't change that much and your access of abilities is very limited. You only have about 3 or 4 special attacks you can really do in this game. Though the many perks you take through out the combat system does increase your proficiency to damage and also your range, among other things. Still regardless of that, when you do get into fights with the enemies, it just feels as though your mashing the same buttons over again. There really is no dynamic system here. That being said, the game it self is kind of interesting, the story is ok and the cut scenes are some times humerus and fit into the over all story line. How ever i did find the over all plot to be kind of cliche at the end. The story just didn't really didn't work for me in my opinion.

Perhaps for me one of the most bothersome parts of this game, is its very streamlined. You have a set of predetermined paths to take through the course of the level, there really is no outside exploration, this game is not a plat-former, so don't think it is. Every action you take, jumping from vine to building structure, even though it looks cool watching "monkey" jump all over the place and reaching great heights with ease, its all pre scripted and its impossible to actually miss a jump and die. I found this to really take the over all challenge away from the game and also you don't really feel as immersed into the game play. I found this to be kind of aggravating in the game and it became boring after a while, certainty trying to get the platinum in this game and having to redo each level over and over again was one of the hardest things ive had to endure, not for the challenge but for having to endure the same scenario's over and over again. There are different difficulty levels that to change the the enemy AI and there a little bit more challenging where you have to rely on blocking more efficiently and counter attack to get through.

The graphics and scenery are pretty well done though for the game, each hand crafted level has been designed pretty well. The facial expressions on the characters during some of the scenes come off as being more realistic like your in a movie experience. Not quite as great as uncharted, but still ok none the less.

I would have to say the greatest aspect of this game is the DLC "Pigsy perfect 10" if you have the chance and own this game, do your self a favor and dl that DLC. Its very different to enslaved and the degree of challenge is very satisfying. Consider you really can't get into melee action with pigsy, he has to rely mostly on tactical stealth and getting enemies to fight for him. Some of the cool skills he uses is "alley" which allows you to alley other mechs to damage them self's or other mechs in the game. You can use distraction bombs that send a signal off so the mechs are distracted so you can get by, or the stun bomb which stuns enimes. He is also a ranged fighter and focuses mostly on his guns for damage output. Over all I found how the levels were structured in this way and the many events that you encounter where satisfying to see how you can take down those pesky mechs with out the use of hack and slash melee combat. This game is completely separate to enslaved, you won't see trip or monkey. You will be replaying as pigsy in his own world with new levels and a completly new story line. It is quite short of course but still satisfying.

Overall this game can be fun for people that play it the first time, but subsequent play through's can really become repetitive over time and its best to move onto something better. If you plan on buying it, don't spend no more then 15 dollars at the most.

Wasn't going to leave a review, but seeing as how the first guy to review it doesn't even own one and gave it 1 star for the most retarded reason ever (because people are paying 400 on ebay?), I thought I should give some balance as someone who does actually own one.

I have to sayI was not expecting this stick to be as nice as all the hype built it up to be, but I have to eat my words and admit I was wrong. I got the lucky opportunity to pick one of these up for not much more than retail even though I never pre-ordered it, so I did because I wanted to see what the fuss was about and get a good comparison to the HRAP 3 SA. So far, it's been a great playing experience. It's got some really good weight to it, and obviously the sanwa components are top quality. Feels good on your lap, and very easy to play with in general. I'm not a huge fan of the start/select buttons all the way on the back of the stick...maybe on the right side would have been more convenient IMO, but that's the only complaint I can come up with...

I originally said that I didn't think this stick would be better than the HRAP3 SA, and I still stand by that though. I don't think it's better, BUT I don't think it's worse either. Both sticks have a solid arcade feel to them, and both use genuine sanwa parts. The color scheme of this one is growing on me more, but I might end up doing some kind of art mod later...

AnywayI'm eating my words, Mad Catz actually made a good controller for once, haha. The fact that Mad Catz made something on par with what I consider the best arcade stick hori has to offer is absolutely crazy to me, but it seems to be true. Don't know how this stick came out so well and the SE version is so full of issues....

This fightstick is amazing, but certainly not worth anything over the original price. It's made with quality japanese parts, making it far superior to the Standard Edition stick.

Mad Catz promised to make more of these fightsticks and they also stated that their goal is for everyone who wants one to have one. Don't be dumb, and don't get ripped off. Be patient, these sticks are not limited edition. More are coming in stock as time goes by.

This is my first fighting stick, and so far I haven't had any problems whatsoever. The fight stick should be used for fighting games, such as, MK vs DC Universe, Soul Calibur 4, and of course with any Street Fighter game. I feel relieved that I don't have to use PS3 controllers anymore, because it's easier to do combos and my thumb doesn't hurt anymore.

FYI, when you insert the Street Fighter 4 disc into your PS3 make sure you go to -> "Options" -> "System Settings" -> "Install. This will improve load times and online play.

I was fortunate to get this FightStick at retail price($149), because I pre-order this product in early December. However, it's unfortunate when third party sellers are trying to sell the Street Fighter IV tournament FightStick at triple or quadruple from the original price. If MadCatz decide not to make anymore I recommend to look elsewhere. For example, I believe Hori came out with the Playstation 3 Real Arcade Pro. 3 Fighting Stick, or a company called, Arcade-in-a-box. I heard both of these company's fight sticks are well made--do a Google search.

Having said that, this is a top quality stick and you won't be disappointed.

I'm not going to try to "reinvent the wheel" per say, but rather reinforce the positive reviews already out there. If you haven't already read IGN's review (note: it's for the 360, but the product is 99% similar so you'll get the idea) there is plenty of reading material out there. All you have to do is search for "Tournament Fightstick Review."

Anyways I just had the chance to sit down and finally see what all the hype was all about for this joystick. Please keep in mind this is my first joystick so while I may not have the experience of others in knowing what's good or bad I have the common sense to tell what's quality and what's not. Here's what you need to know: the buttons and stick ooze quality. They feel and sound great. This is arcade perfect of the Viewlix cabinet so quality parts are a given. Since it has Sanwa parts you don't have to worry about modification. The plastic shell case doesn't have a real high end feel to it, but does the job just fine. My biggest gripe in terms of quality has to do with USB cable storage door. Granted I only opened the door 2 times but I was nervous both times to not break anything off. I would advise owners to handle the storage door with care.

For PSX/PS2/PC compatibility I haven't tried it with PSX/PS2 games so I can't say, though I think I remember people saying it doesn't work with PS2 games. PSX might be okay, but don't quote me on that. As for PC I plugged it in (Vista 64-bit on an Intel-based system) and after a short driver installation period I was good to go. This is great for MAME or Mugen or whatever else fits in those gaming categories.

If you're looking for a quality joystick and if you can get your hands on one I recommend you get one of these.

--

Update June 11, 2009:

I've used this joystick for 2 weeks now and I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoy playing games with it. There is an intial learning curve for people who have strictly used console controllers all their lives, but it is most certainly worth it.

A little warning about this joystick: expect scratches on the clear plastic that sits on the art! From one angle the joystick looks clean, glossy, and smooth. From another angle you can spot hundreds of micro-scratches running across the face. Also I have found the black ring at the base of the stick rubs against the clear plastic the wrong way and will leave a circle of scratches surrounding it. All these cosmetic issues do not affect gameplay in any way. If you want you can always apply something smooth underneath the black ring to prevent this from happening before you start using the stick. Avoid using rubber or anything that would restrict the stick from moving freely.

I'm still not a big fan of the cable storage door, but I have gotten used to opening and closing it so hopefully it doesn't snap on me right after my 90-day warranty is up.

--

Update August 14, 2009:

I decided to void the warranty a little more than a week away from its expiration for the sake of testing how easy it would be to install new buttons and a new ball top especially since I just got them from Japan (yes I'm bragging a little). Some of the quick disconnects can be difficult to remove with your fingers so I recommend you use a flathead to loosen the connector at the base and gently tug on the metal portion to remove it or use pliers, again on the metal portion. DO NOT pull on the wires! I ended up replacing the white buttons and white ball top with red counterparts (same Sanwa models: OSBF buttons and LB-35 ball top) and replaced the two black buttons with white ones All in all it was purely for aesthetics. Hopefully I'll get around to posting a picture. I did happen to buy another JLF joystick, but it's only for backup.

Modification isn't bad at all, but as I said before it's not necessary since you have top quality parts. If you are looking to modify your fightstick make sure you do some searches on guides in case you've never done this type of thing before.

With Amazon's new $130 price tag I don't see how you can turn this down.

Want Sony PS3 Street Fighter IV FightStick Tournament Edition Discount?

For the first time this decade, MadCatz teamed up with Capcom to bring us a HIGH-QUALITY product, with expensive imported parts from Japan for that "Authentic Arcade Feeling". First off, all parts are infact 100% authentic Sanwa Denshi products, from the joystick to the pushbuttons which round up about $70 by itself if you were to purchase the parts. not to mention the PCboard which woudl cost your another $25~$30 normally is included with a beautifully constructed case with grade A Artwork encased in plexiglass or lexon, which would round up another $60 if you would have tried to contruct everything yourself. For the price of ONLY $100 as opposed to the new SSFIV Fight Stick for the original price of $150, BOTH which have exactly the same parts in a rehashed case and new art, this FightStick is a STEAL at this price. have fun and SRK.

Most of this will be about the much derided Gigolo Missions, but I'll give a general product review in bullet points first.

Pros:

-Combat is simple, but contains enough depth for experimentation, and the timing for some maneuvers is pretty strict

-Stylish visuals

-Very strong character designs

-Good soundtrack

-Hard mode is actually hard, and the easy mode is apparently easy enough that even modern game reviewers find it too easy, which amazes me

-Boss battles are all unique, with one of them being a sentient train that happens to be a very clever reference

-The setting is Suda51 all over, very bizarre

-The writing can be very clever

-The voices are all fitting and generally pretty good, aside from one main character

-The first print run is very meaty, containing a small hardback art book, a soundtrack CD clocking in at over an hour, and DLC in every copy

-There is a soft-boiled egg recipe on the back of the DLC slip, and it's a pretty good one

Cons:

-Lengthy install for the PS3 version, but that's really nothing new

-Some screen tearing

-Some of the missions are very slow

-The minigames all feel more like a hassle than a fun aside. I would have preferred odd jobs, like in No More Heroes

-While bizarre, it is definitely less so than Suda's previous similar efforts, about as far from NMH as NMH was from Killer 7

-The screen can get very busy later in the game, and the visuals can hamper you in certain situations

-While occasionally clever, the writing lacks the charm of the earlier "Assassin" games

-The Gigolo missions are good for a laugh, and give you game critical items, but at the end of the day it's just a simple minigame that isn't all that interesting

It's no secret that internet feminism has sunk its claws into the gaming industry in the last two years, creating problems where there are none and doing nothing to fix the problems that actually exist. They are largely irrelevant to this review, my beef is with the reviewers straining to please them, instantly and unanimously decrying the Gigolo missions as hateful, misogynistic garbage, with IGN's typewriter monkey going so far as to describe them as "gross". It's nothing of the sort, it was even thought up by a woman. They are intended as a parody of Bond girls, being called "Mondo Girls" after the main character Mondo Zappa. The two even sound the same when spoken in Japanese. That aside, Mondo is given the Travis Touchdown treatment, and comes across as a dork who has to stare at a girl's boobs when she isn't looking to work up the courage(or Guts, as the game calls it) to give her a present, anything from a stick of gum to a diamond ring, all given in a ridiculous generic wrapped box with an equally ridiculous pose. Should you "win," Mondo and the lady leave arm in arm, with Mondo giving the player a sly thumbs up. As for afterwards, a little bit more happens each time you do it, but nothing too racy, in fact it's normally pretty dumb and obviously being played for laughs. And, as if to illustrate the obvious stupidity of the minigame to anyone who somehow doesn't get it, once the screen fades to black you hear Mondo yell an exaggerated YEEEEAAAAAHH before the ranking screen appears. One more thing, if they catch you staring too many times, you get a cutscene where Mondo has his face six inches away from the girl's boobs, and he gets slapped, thus losing the challenge. In short, it's a joke minigame meant to play off of Mondo's Bond-cool image.

Final verdict: If you liked Suda51 games before, you'll like this one, and if you didn't, you still won't. It's not perfect, nowhere near it, but it doesn't deserve the hammering it's been getting and certainly not for the reasons they're giving.

If you're familiar with Suda51 you've probably already made up your mind on if you'd like this game or not. Dreamlike, sophisticated and cool as hell this is probably his best work to date.

It improves on one of the only real flaws with his previous games other than being incredibly polarizing, the gameplay. Instead of an extremely limited combat system in Suda51's previous action games Killer is Dead delivers a very satisfying gameplay experience. If you thought Metal Gear Rising was one of the best releases of 2013 and have a taste for the dark and strange then you can't go wrong with Killer Is Dead.

I love this game, being a fan of Suda51's previous games. That being said there have been many mediocre reviews I've seen so I'll point out the flaws in this game first:

The game is short, I beat it in 7-8 hours. I enjoyed it enough to play it some more after beating it but besides score chasing there isn't too much re-playability here.

The game is not for the people that like to see realistic graphics (obviously I would think) and environmental destruction. It has Suda's signature flair to the visuals and sounds/music, but if you haven't played any of his games you should watch a couple gameplay videos first.

Apparently the fact that you have to look at women's breasts is a downside to some critics, but I had absolutely no problem with it.

Now for the good stuff:

The combat seemed smoother and more polished than any other Suda game. Hacking apart enemies with the stylized blood spatter is very fun.

The story was pure Suda and was nice and dark.

The visual style is very different, and I found it very refreshing and reminiscent of some anime I've seen. I planned on getting this game eventually, but watching the trailers is what made me preorder.

So I guess to conclude:

Suda51 fans buy this game

People looking for something different visually and storywise watch some trailers, then buy this game

People that don't like quirky Japanese games You don't exist

As many have already said, a lot of "reviews" bashed this game solely because of a few optional missions where you ogle a female body. I read one where the review was basically about women's rights, and at the end he added something about all enemies being damage sponges and how to win all the player had to do was mash the attack button.

This may be true on easy or normal, but I can't say for sure, because my first play-through was on hard, and I found that this was the perfect setting for any seasoned veteran of action games (not just SUDA51 titles). What I quickly found that was this game punishes you for button mashing: strong enemies will actually parry your attacks, while others won't flinch once they've begun their attack animation, forcing you to guard or dodge. Furthermore, since the camera is completely manual, the player will have to be constantly aware of his/her surroundings either by moving the camera or Mondo himself; if one is button mashing, one will fail to see attacks coming from behind or even off-screen. The combat is deceptively simple, with a system that rivals the style and challenge offered in the infamous ps2 title "Shinobi." The player will even need to rack up combos through attacks and dodges in order to do more damage (those who have played shinobi will understand).

That being said, I know the reviewers who claimed the combat was too repetitive only played on an easier difficulty, therefore leading to a watered down game experience and overall unprofessional critique: it's near impossible to give an accurate report on a game after one quick play-through, but it's apparent this is what so many people have done.

***Spoiler free review***

I really liked Shadows of the damned and lollipop chainsaw but I felt that they were very mainstream compared to Killer 7 and No more heroes. That does not make them bad, but I really liked the style Suda used in his "stranger" games. Killer is dead takes a step back in that stranger direction.

Gameplay: Fairly straight forward. Hack and slash mixed with 3rd person shooting. Your hack and slash weapon gathers blood and the 3rd person weapons use blood. Some bosses and enemies can only be killed with special moves that use blood.

You have a variety of skills you can unlock and upgrade. By the end of the game I did not even get close to unlocking them all.

There are some side quests that vary greatly in quality and difficulty. You can unlock more by just moving forward in the story while others you can unlock by finding secrets within levels. There are also hidden goals in each level that you can see once you have beaten it once. For example finish the quest without killing an enemy.

Some people seem upset about the gigolo missions (missions where you seduce women) but to be honest they are kind of funny and very easy. Not only that, they are very few and not required to win the game. They are not for children because they allude to sex but they are also not explicit. You do see women in underwear. It's up to you if you think they are offensive. My wife watched them several times and thought they were funny. Your wife or parents may not agree though. I will say that I did not find them sexist, mainly just goofy and amusing.

Graphics: The graphics are cool if you like high contrast cel shading. At first it took a little getting used to. It is actually a little difficult to see details on some of the more complicated looking enemies. Overall I am fairly neutral on the graphics, but the art design is good.

Story: Since this is spoiler free I can't say much. I know that many people will be let down by the story while others will really like it. I think it really depends on how much you feel like analyzing it. You can take it at face value or look for some additional meaning. The most important parts of the story are not spoon fed to you which may leave you scratching your head if you do not want to put some thought in.

Overall: After all the bad press I was really happy to see suda 51 getting strange again. If you like this game it will largely be for style. The gameplay is well done but probably nothing you haven't seen. The controversy from the gigolo missions was far overblown in my opinion. Enjoyment of the narrative will hinge on how much you want to read into it and how much you like the characters. In the end I would recommend this to all Suda fans. It is very difficult to predict what the average player will think of it, but give it a try if you have never played a grasshopper game.

If you're an adult trying to grab an easy platinum for your PS3 rating, don't bother. There are two very good reasons why it's not worth it:

1) The horse racing game needs 4 controllers. If you already happen to have four, or can borrow a few, fine. Otherwise, you won't be able to get the Silver for it. Personally, I refused to ask any of my friends to take on the four player game (you just need the controllers to register with the game, you don't actually need to use them). I also didn't want anyone to know why I needed to borrow a controller, so I grabbed myself a wired controller, which I wanted to get for on-line play anyway (don't you hate when a battery dies out just before you get that final, winning kill?).

2) The bottle toss game. The angles are NOT set up for straight forward play. You also have to use the six axis controller to toss the bean bag. I swear, the bottle toss games in real life are not rigged nearly as bad as the one in this game.

And if you want a bonus third reason not to play the game, it really is made for tweens and kids. It's like playing a really bad Disney TV show or movie (anyone ever see a re-run of the original Mickey Mouse Club? The old black & whites from the 50's?).

There really are better games to boost your stats with. Less embarrassing ones as well. Try the Back To The Future: The Game series. You can play it on disc, then down load the chapters to double your awards (but not the Platinum. That's only on the disc). Even the Megamind game doesn't feel so childish in comparison. And yes, Megamind was my first Platinum.

This game is a lot of fun. It follows the story of the movie (for the most part) and is hours of fun. The songs are there, the humor is there, and the fashion is there. This is probably the best game based on a Disney movie or show out there.

This game is a huge improvement over the first one. They at least fixed alot of the problems that people complained about the first game. This limited edition is an exclusive to NIS's Rosen Queen Store, and was printed in limited quantities. (Not sure where the other review got the idea that this edition was available at gamestop, but that is completely false.) Worth picking up while you still can. Like all of Nis's games, once the LE is gone, it's gone for good.

Since the very first Red Alert came out so many years ago on the PC, I have been a fan. Red Alert was the first RTS (Real Time Strategy) game I had ever played and I absolutely loved it. Red Alert 2 was even better in gameplay and with the addition of Hollywood stars playing the character roles in the cut scenes, the game became even more fun.

When I first heard Red Alert 3 would be coming to the PS3, I was both excited and skeptical. Excited because of my love for the franchise, and yet skeptical because I had never played Command & Conquer on a console system. The mouse and keyboard interface was something I was not sure I could part with and I didn't know how playable the game would be without it.

With that said, I took a leap of faith and bought the game anyway. Although it is a different play experience on the console, I find that the new interface using the PS3 control pad is very manageable and after a game or two, it was no problem for me to know where to go and what to do. A radial menu has been added that allows you to select various construction options simply by pushing the stick in one direction or the other. Pretty soon you will find yourself knowing exactly what to click when, so don't let your familiarity with the keyboard dissuade you from buying and/or trying this game.

The graphics are crisp, although the tips and writing are a bit hard to read on a non HD television. The factions have a nice variety of weapons and styles and more has been promised via downloadable add-on content at a later date. The new Empire of the Rising Sun faction has some really cool new weaponry, including large mechs and transforming robots in the classic anime realm. There are a nice variety of included maps with more promised to come via download later.

Online play so far has been very smooth. I have played three online matches as of this review and have experienced no lag or connection issues when playing others. You also have the option to play the computer in skirmish/base building mode. Up to 4 players can play head to head online at a time.

The cinematics, although classically over the top, are great as always, with some great Hollywood talent playing key roles yet again. The soundtrack is awesome and keeps you immersed in the action. The soundtrack is included as a stand alone bonus feature on this addition as well, along with plenty of other nice bonus features and behind the scenes videos.

All in all, once you adapt to the interface changes, this game is good old Red Alert on steroids. You will have a blast and I think you will find that this is the first real console RTS to stay true to it's origins and keep the long time fan interested. It will also be easily adaptable to the new player who is making their first venture into the C&C universe.

If you still have any doubts, go online to the Playstation store and download the free demo. It lets you go through tutorials as well as two missions to get a feel for what the game is like.

I highly recommend this game to all fans of the PS3 and the Red Alert/C&C franchise.

This latest installment of the Command and Conquer franchise was clearly built around what made the previous Red Alert installments popular. The story is zany and often cheezy. Big name actors play the parts of generals and commanders and even do so with real live-action footage. The graphics are great and I have not experienced any glitches at all. Online plays smoothly as well. When playing online, you can even pause the mission to talk to your co-commander(if it's not a computer!)

Overall, there is lots of attention to detail and plenty of options. You can choose between the Red Alert classics(soviets, and the allies) as well as the new faction, the empire of the Rising Sun. It's great fun and I think it's a worthy successor in the Red Alert series.

Those who are worried about the lack of mouse and keyboard controlls shouldn't be. The command menu works well and only takes a game or two to get used to. So far, my only complaint about the game is the price. I know the Playstation version had a couple small exclusive goodies, but we shouldn't have had to pay the full retail price when the game had already been out(and selling for much less)on PC and Xbox for over 6 months.

There really seem to be only two true RTS franchises that made their way over to the consoles, so I thought it would be beneficial to compare and contrast the two.

After having played both games extensively, I don't understand the lack of press coverage this game is getting.

This game seriously superior to Halo Wars in Every Single Area.

The basic controls are pretty much identical, but there's a ton of advanced controls available as well that make this game a pleasure to play. I control the game faster with the PS3 version than the PC version using a mouse oddly enough.

The Graphics in this game are better than both Halo Wars and the 360 version of Red Alert 3. The extra time that EA spent polishing up the PS3 version of the game really shines through. The game has more depth and strategy than Halo Wars as well.

The game has three different factions that really play out very differently, and they're all a lot of fun to play. Reminds me of Starcraft. In Halo Wars, you're stuck with only one faction in singleplayer mode, and two in multiplayer that happen to play out almost identically.

And most importantly, the game has a lot more meat to it and is all around more fun than Halo Wars.

he basic controls were nice and easy to learn, but there's a lot of advanced controls (hold one button while pressing another, double tapping specific buttons, etc.) that will be picked up during the course of playing the game.

9.5 Presentation

The best cutscenes anywhere in any game, period! They really pull you into the story

9.0 Graphics

Better than the 360 version and most RTS games.

9.5 Sound

The Soundtrack Rules.

9.0 Gameplay

Great all around. But a split screen mode, mod support, and yes, KB+Mouse support would've been nice to have.

10.0 Lasting Appeal

There's tons of strategies to try out in single and multiplayer. I haven't been able to stop playing the game since I picked it up at launch.

I used to play the 1st C&C and Red Alert 1 on a PC back in college and it's great to see a version for PS3. I've spent hours playing this game on a slow week night.

This version is great fun, somewhat harder to micromanage units with a console control, and I have yet to beat all the soviet AI commanders in skirmish mode on Medium. My only complaint is that about 30% of the time, if you load a saved game, there is no sound. I am using stereo 5.1 surround, but it seems EA should provide a patch to fix this issue, I've seen none yet. It works after I re-load, but kind of a hassle.

When I purchased one last year, they had better reception, both for ps3, and for completely syncing up to a PC, now something was changed, the reception doesn't go far at all, and it's easily interrupted. If you're right by your PS3 or PC this is fine but being on the other side of a medium sized room makes the controls very laggy, if not even work at all. I'd recommend trying to find something different. The controls are built well, feel solid, the controllers fits in the hand very well, but the reception is terrible now.

Not to many people knew about this game and it did not really make headlines, but this is a great sleeper game that may have slipped through the cracks. I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters and there were funny comments made throughout the game. There were also serious points. (SPOILER ALERT)I recently got this game after seeing a video review. I was very impressed with it. There is some really beautiful artwork and cinematics in this game. It takes place in the near future I think that the game says that it's about 200 years from now and civilization has been destroyed in some kind of war. There have been a lot of post apocalyptic games in recent years and this game did something that to me was different and surprising instead of having things look toxic and burned out, the city in the first half of the game is lush and beautiful with exotic plants and blue skies. about half way through the game we meet a very strange new character who I thought was great. The game play was excellent. The game is sort of a platformer/ beat 'em up, kind of like Prince of Persia and the action and game controls were very good. It throws you right into the action at the start and keeps going from there. With a good variety of enemies and some memorable boss battles. The game isn't super long and there aren't really any side quests but I don't think more content would have made it better, just longer. The game has a tight focused narrative that kept me immersed in the story and the characters the whole way through. The game is not very difficult and has a forgiving auto-save feature. Cinematics are excellent and the voice acting and characters are really good. Andy Serkis from Lord of the rings does the main character. The best thing was the art design. It changes as the story goes along and the visuals tell the story as much as the dialog. The conflict is illustrated by the environments as the story progresses, and it really adds to the drama in a way that only a few other games have. great game.

while I agree with most folks that this is an excellent package including over 30 DLC packs including all three expansions (the trouble with clones, Genki bowl, and gangstas in space)

the Big Problem I have here is they did NOT INCLUDE:

The Bloodsucker Pack (so you have to rebuy it again 1.99) and the Unlockable Pack is another 1.99. while this is not a deal breaker for me, if you're including ALL DLC and stating that on the package I shouldn't have to download anything nor pay for new dlc. also the Online Pass is Different from SR3 so you will need to download it again (code is provided) however if you buy it used, you will need to buy this (9.99) otherwise I noticed a few performance issues right off the bat including the main screen lagging. again, not a deal breaker but I wish they had taken some time to polish it up a tad.

overall it's a fantastic game with loads of comedic writing

it just has a few minor flaws I felt you should know about.

I will not fully review the game since that has been done to death I

am mainly reviewing the new product and informing about the DLC issue.

A Definate Must Buy for all SR3 Fans especally those that want the dlc on disc.

Graphics: 5 stars

Sound: (funny one liners) good tunes 5 stars

Gameplay: easy to control and simple to learn 5 stars

Fun: one of the most fun silly games ever 5 stars easily

Overall: though there's a few flaws in this new package, it's a 5 star deal!

UPDATE: after playing for a few more hours I can now confirm

all other dlc packs Except the one with the Hoverbike (I have not found the bike yet) but as you progress into the game all the unlocks show up (especally at your 1st crib) just thought I'd add this update. only the two I listed at the beginning of this review must be re-bought for 1.99 each.

UPDATE #2 I can now Confirm the Hoverbike as well. you need a

Helipad before you can access this DLC so no worries it's really there.

I'm late to jump onto the Saints Row bandwagon but whatever. I will preface by saying that I played Saints Row 2 before I played this game and share some of the anomosity some gamers have sent its way. While Saints Row 2 was the story of the Saints trying to wrestle control of Stilwater from 3 very different rival gangs each with their own story, Saints Row 3 drops our crew into Steelport...I don't really know why since it's never really explained. The game has decided to become very over the top and I knew this going in which is probably why I enjoyed it more than some other people who wanted something more akin to SR2.

Gameplay and controls are much like GTA4 but felt like they operated smoother for me. The storyline is completely ridiculous and I have to say I did not feel the same level of accomplishment as I did when I finished SR2. All that said the game is still very fun. The ridiculous storyline kept me going until the end and the homage to some old school games was welcome.

Buy Saints Row the Third - The Full Package Now

Let's just get this out there right now: Saints Row the Third is an amazing game. The amount of insane, over the top, awesome, and sometimes downright brutal things that you can do is quite staggering. Streak through the city streets while invincible (provided the proper ability is picked of course), the police firing rockets harmlessly at you? Yup, can do it. Play as a TOILET in a virtual world? Yeah that's there too. Fall thousands of feet in the air and land safely (again, relates to some abilities) on the ground? How about firing a megaman cannon at a bunch of mascots? Using a mind-control octopus on luchadores? All of that and MUCH more can be done in the game.

Also; if memory serves right, this is the first Saints to offer choices in a way. During certain missions, you'll be able to pick what you want to do, and get a reward accordingly. A DLC not included in the "full" package (there are two) offers BOTH rewards for all choices in the game which sort of ruins the idea yes, BUT should one not download it, then the the aspect of there being a choice (as opposed to being handed two rewards) is still there.

As always, character and vehicle customization is rather diverse. You can go from buff blue Amazoness one minute to a small, meek orange man the next, and everything in between. The customization is rich enough that the online community at the saints row website has characters of all sorts, a fair number of which are based off of popular shows or movies. All that being said, the crib customization seems a bit lacking this time around. You can do some auto-upgrades that just make the buildings taller and dole out more respect or cash, whereas (again, provided my memory is correct) in SR 2 you could customize it a fair amount.

Graphics are pretty good, not necessarily "omg amazing HD tastic" but not bad either. They're like high-middle tier. Sound is great, you can hear pretty much anything and everyone in game including civilians near to you or your car. Music's a bit lacking in choice this time around, and there's no option this time around to go and buy more.

In relation to the previous note (the drawback about the music), there's another drawback this time around. There's no way to replay story missions. Yes, for the clones and gangsta's ones you can (though I believe you have to redo the entire DLC story, instead of picking or choosing levels), but the main storyline you can only redo the last mission. Which is a bit of an annoyance as there are two achievements/trophies relating to Act 1, which requires you to play it twice in order to get.

All in all though it's a great game. I'll go so far as to say it's better than GTA even, and this is coming from a person who loved GTA4. So if you liked that, or Saints Row 2, or just like having goofy awesome fun, then you'll like this game. Just know you might wind up leaving the radio off :P

Oh and P.S trailblazing seems like the only activity who's hard mode wasn't slightly made easier, so it's still annoying as hell

In most ways, this controller works just like a regular Sony controller, and for a far cheaper price. So if you don't mind a couple head-scratching issues with it, it's a worthwhile purchase. That said, I've noticed two problems with it:

1. If you have it plugged in to the PS3 when you turn the system off, it turns it right back on. That probably sounds ridiculous, but I have tried it dozens of times (not to mention hundreds of times with the other controllers I own, which NEVER do this) and every single time I turn off the PS3 with this controller plugged in, it turns the system back on. If you have a separate charger and/or charge this controller while the PS3 is on, then this won't affect you (and it could be that not all of them do this, but mine certainly does.

2. If you pause the game you are playing for more than a minute or so, the controller shuts off. You have to come back and double click it again before you can push start and continue the game. It's not as if that takes all day or anything, but it can be a bit annoying if you're the type that has to walk away from your game very often.

If these two things don't bother you (and if you're confident enough that the one you buy won't have additional problems) then hey, save yourself $25 or $30 and buy this controller. Who wants to spend $50 on one, after all?

I bought this for my husband as a second controller for his system. We definitely didn't want to spend the larger amount to get a Sony brand controller. This price was relatively very cheap. My husband noted that the controllers didn't work as smoothly as the standard Sony controller you receive with the gaming system, but the problem wasn't big enough to actually hinder game play. Overall, we are completely satisfied with the product. Considering it was four times cheaper than the name brand, this was a good deal. It was sent from China so it took a full week to arrive, but it did come all in one piece and was actually already charged to play.

I would recommend buying this controller and saving yourself the money.

The total I paid for this item was $13 and I can definitely tell I got my $'s worth. The response of the unit is slow and if you are wanting to use this for online gaming on C.O.D. for example get ready to have your stats JACKED up. The joystick controls are out of control and the buttons don't respond on first tap. This controller is now used for the unlucky sap that may come game w/ me. The only reason I bought this controller is because my other one met its demise at the bottom of my foot while I was walking in the dark, and instead of waiting patiently to save the $40 for an officially licensed Playstation controller I rushed and now have to wait for the wife to okay a second controller expense. Just chiming in to say that this looks and (mostly) feels like the real deal. You can tell if you are a regular gamer but this thing is as advertised. I bought this specifically to use with my android devices (nexus 7 and HTC Evo LTE). Rooting the devices and using the SixAxis pairing tool/app worked great and I am playing pretty much any game with a $16 controller. This thing feels much better than most any mobile device bluetooth game controller and has 4 triggers and thumbsticks with L3/R3 which many mobile game controllers are missing. Consider that this costs less than half as much as a playpad, icontrolpad, icade, etc. and its a no brainer.

Want HK Black Wireless Bluetooth Controller for sony PS3 Discount?

This controller does have a couple of "quirks," but they are not too much trouble. The first is that it has it's own power saver that will automatically turn it off if left alone for a (seemingly short) time. And, this cannot be adjusted at all, as far as I can tell. If this is a problem for you, you can eliminate this by plugging it in. But, this brings me to the other little quirk. If you turn your system off while this unit is plugged in, it will automatically turn your system back on. (With the USB cord unplugged it will behave like the original)

I have to emphasize though that I find this to be a good product overall, especially for the price. With the exception of the aforementioned "quirks" it looks, feels, and acts just like the Sony version. In fact, it is almost indistinguishable from the original.

If you are looking for an off-brand replacement for a wireless PS3 controller (that doesn't require batteries), I would say that this product is a good choice.

As a huge horror movie fan I really loved the concept of this game. I wanted nothing more than to absolutely fall in love with it. Unfortunately I did not. I do not regret the purchase because I did have $10 off, but it is definitely not a $50 title.

The general game play is a lot of fun. The special kills, especially are both violent and adorable. The levels are unfortunately rather repetitive. The graphics are kinda meh. I really wish they would have added more detail to the textures with it being 2010 and all. The AI is kind of hit or miss. I wish you could make use of stealth a little more, and walk fast without sprinting like most slashers.

I haven't tried the online yet, so I can't vouch either way for that aspect.

If it was a $30 game it would be worth it. It is fun to play while you have a little time to kill and don't want to get engrossed in an epic story.

I, for one, was looking forward to this game. However, as its release date drew near, there existed no gameplay videos or anything outside of some very cool looking execution trailers and a few video spoofs. The game sounded interesting this way but once I finally got my hands on it, I was insanely disappointed with what I saw.

This game is an absolute mess. The framerate begins hiccuping if there's more than 1 bear anywhere around you (so good luck if you've got a small crowd that you're wanting to sneak up on). The controls feel very broken as well as I found myself fighting to get the camera view the way I wanted it more often than not. The game forces you to play the side-missions to unlock the rest of the story missions (if you really even wanna get into it...and you probably won't). All in all, this game seems like more time was spent making the cool looking trailers for it than actually being worked on. Do not pay over 10 dollars for this game. This should have just been an Xbox Live Arcade/Playstation Network release. It's insanely mediocre and nothing special in any way.

When I first saw pictures of Naughty Bear, I was a little interested. A killer teddy bear? 'sounds like good dumb fun to me! Though at the same time, I noticed that very few details about gameplay were revealed, which was pretty smart on the developer's part, because it made more people buy the game without knowing about what they were getting into. After watching someone play Naughty Bear for 15 minutes, I knew this game sucked. Then, after playing it for a few hours myself, I can tell you that I haven't played a game this bad since Superman 64. Yeah, I used the S word there. Where Superman 64 was so bad that it was funny to watch, there's nothing redeeming about Naughty Bear unless you're that desperate for trophies.

What do I even say about the game's story? You're a gruff, tough bear who doesn't like anyone that lives around him. All his neighbors are these happy bears with high, squeaky voices that sound an awful lot like the Teletubbies, and for no real reason, it's up to you to beat the stuffing out of them. You'll use bats, machetes, and many other weapons [that all do the same thing] to terrorize the neighborhood while doing some forced stealth segments in an attempt to add some variety to the game. Level after level, you go around, beating up bears, raising your Naughty meter. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I know the most common comment for this game is that it should've been a downloadable game for 1/5 the price, but I have to agree with them. Whoever said that it was ok to release Naughty Bear as a full price, real game, is nuts.

So just how bad is the gameplay? Imagine a game where attack moves are unresponsive, the camera is constantly getting stuck behind walls and other objects, you just mash the attack button over and over, and you attack the same characters while the same grinding track plays in the background over and over. That's Naughty Bear. A game like this had a lot of potential, but after playing the final product, I can't even begin to think of how this could've been a good game. The bad-ness took out any good ideas in my head. There are some parts of the game that have some genuine thought put into them, like smashing a phone before a bear can call the cops, but it doesn't matter much because by the time you get to the phone, it's too late. You'll have fought the camera for at least 30 seconds, then positioned yourself just right so you can open a door or break open a window. That's rightyou have to be in just the right spot before the window asking if you want to open the door pops up. The weapons are all very basic, and while some kills did make me laugh a little, they could've been done better. I was too bothered by the over-use of 'Naughty' by the poorly voiced fake British narrator to be that into the game. Heck, I got sick of the word 'naughty' after 5 minutes.

The graphics aren't exactly pushing the ps3 to its limits. To tell you the truth, I could see this being done just fine on the ps2 or even the PSP. And yet, there's a lot of slowdown and frame issues with Naughty Bear. Why the heck does a game this basic have slowdown on the ps3? Character models and locations don't have much detail to begin with, so don't expect much from the visuals in any aspect. The audio's even worse, with that ungodly horrendous track that played over and over, the annoying bear voices and that narrator that should've ditched the accent.

I don't just hand out 1 star ratings for things. Usually, I can see some positive aspects in games, movies, or books that get nothing but bad reviews from others, and rate it appropriately. With Naughty Bear, there's no hope. I'll give it 2 stars for fun because it used the cool Deadly Creatures/X-Men Origins: Wolverine camera that would sometimes cut to the victim's point of view and show you popping up into view, taking them out mercilessly. That's always great, and I wish more [good] games would use it. As it is, there's no reason what so ever to buy this. Even if someone loans it to you, as is my case, I think you'll feel insulted more than anything.

I'm having sooo much fun with this game and here is why. I have heard so much negativity about this game and yet I have been playing it for months. I have heard that the narrator is annoying. I have heard that the game is repetitive. I have heard that this is the worst game of the year. I would like to provide feedback on all of the above and more. The entire game is divided into multiple episodes. Each episode has different chapters with different conditions that must be met to advance through the game. There is a narrator at the beginning of each episode that introduces the story of each episode. People have said he is annoying but, he has the same type of character flavor as the narrator in Little Big Planet. I kind of like him more. The premise of the game is you are a bear who has a bad attitude amongst a land of happy bears. Somehow, you feel bad for the bear because he is not invited to parties or gets tricked by the happy bears. So you must go around killing the bears or scaring them to the point that they kill themselves. You do this by hiding in places or breaking the bears appliances. Apparently, bears do not like to have appliances broken and when you do around breaking their turntables or breaking their bbq pits they must fix them immediately which gives you an open window for a Manhunt-style stealth kill. Some levels you have to hide and scare the bears to the point that they commit suicide. Some levels you have to stealth kill the bears. Some levels you have to kill the bears fast. The levels are diverse. Yes, they are log cabins in the woods. But, one level is Evil Dead themed where the Teddy Bears have a cooking party (they don't invite Naughty Bear) and they acciently start reading the book of the dead and zombie bears run amok. I honestly, have played games since 8-bit Nintendo and get bored with games very easily. But, I am having fun completing challenges and unlocking different outfits. There is this bear called the Unibear (which is a unicorned bear) that comes and smells a flower and then runs away before you can kill him. It is fun to try to kill him. I play games like Omikron, Manhunt, Dead Rising, GTA, Halo, Demon Souls to name a few. This game holds my attention. Yeah, this game is not as polished as those games or other top tier games. However, if you accept it for what it is then, it will make you laugh and it is fun to play with friends. Then, there is some downloadable content with a superhero, pirate, alien, vampire episode. Who knows what future downloadable content will come out next. The game challenges you to get high scores by changing up your methods in which you kill the bears and rewards you with diffent bear-themed outfits. Long story short I got my moneys worth on this one. I didn't trade it in at the game store like I often do. I am still playing it having fun with the downloadable content. Also, the game had a few technical glitches but, the PS3 downloadable patch helped correct many of them. This game effected my life in two ways. Whenever, I don't get invited to a party I wanted to go to. I just hear in my head "Poor Naughty Bear nobody wanted you to go to that party." and secondly, whenever my toaster breaks and I am too lazy to fix it; I just think about the excellent work ethic of those happy bears that whenever anything breaks they get right on it and fix it. This game is creative and hilarious. I read so many bad reviews from reliable sources I almost did not give this game a chance. I am sure glad that I gave this game a chance. I have practically fallen asleep or been playing games thinking "is this suppossed to be fun." Not this game I always have a blast. Now here is the flaw. The loading time reminds me of some racing titles where it takes forever to load like Modracers. Sometimes the framerate can be choppy too. The game did freeze on me a few times too. The patch fixes some of this. I'm just being honest. This game is no angel but, if you go into it with an open mind you might be surprised with how much fun you have. Last thing to mention, this game has a picture in a picture at the top of the screen that allows you to monitor bearing fixing stuff that you broke or bears calling the cops or bears trying to escape by car or boat or bears trying to free other bears from bear traps. You get the point some crazy stuff:)

I remember the original manhunt being fun and rather gripping at times. When I saw Naughty Bear, what I expected was a cartoonish, parodic Manhunt: Teddy Chainsaw Massacre. What comes out is a awful tripe that masquerades as being a point-based scare game.

You're the Naughty Bear, shunned by all the other bears. When you're birthday present is trashed, thats the last straw prior to your bear-induced rampage, and theres nothing to be done but de-bear the entire island. And thats the entirety of the plot pretty much.

An annoying English narrartor tries to give helpful overlays, but only serves as a counterpoint to this ridiculous setup. Graphics are repetitive and plain, with little to distinguish it from any contemporary. Gameplay is based on stealth, but the flows and pace is so off that the game is effectively a chase and trap before long in every stage. Gratuitous trophy challenges are added in as some sort of bait to keep people playing, but apart from being worth a few chuckles for some of the sights, you'll be through with this hunk of garbage in an hour.

This is a pretty nice controller, bigger than the standard controllers and better for your hands overall. Its functionality is nice and it plays smooth. The glow feature is nice and the 3 AAA batteries powering it last a long time (about three weeks). One problem is it's wireless but it doesn't use the system's Bluetooth, so one of your USB ports has to have a transmitter plugged into it when you use it. Also, the controller starts to wear after about two months mine being a bad connection with the R2 button because of how much it's used on PS3 games. Because it's not a Bluetooth controller, it does not have any SixAxis capability. It's a good controller while it lasts, but I've switched back to the DualShock after getting sick of having to hammer the R2 button with my finger every time.

This controller doesn't automatically connect to its USB receiver, so every time you want to use it, you have to go to the console and push a button on the receiver, then push another button on the controller to get them to pair. And it doesn't necessarily work the first time. Plus there's no way to attach the receiver to the controller, so it's easy for them to get separated / the receiver stick to get misplaced.

Once it's connected, it works fine, but it's not worth the trouble.

It stopped working after a few weeks. One of the buttons came loose. But it did work other wise. My sone took it apart and was able to fix it. The water is in it's own bubble so it did not spill. It works now, but if you don't have someone who can fix stuff you might have to send it away to be fixed.

This controller is great! The "glowing" lava inside is cool looking, and it can be turned off to save battery power. It works very well in games, and the turbo function has saved our poor fingers & thumbs from button-mashing madness. We use it exclusively for Dungeon Defenders and Dungeon Hunters. But! For games that require fine control, such as Call of Duty or similar 1st Person Shooters, the controllers are not as precise as the Sony controllers. For those games that require precision, these can be frustrating. For games that require button-mashing, they are a God-Send!
