I'm not ordinarily a big fan of first-person shooters. I generally find them a bit tedious and splatter-oriented. I also have shied away from survival horror games like Left 4 Dead or Resident Evil. I'm fond of real-time strategy games like Command and Conquer and more puzzle-oriented shooters like Metroid or Ratchet & Clank. I'm also a big fan of old-school adventures like Myst, Obsidian, Syberia.

So, it was with some trepidation that I popped Bioshock into my Mac, after all these years of waiting for it to be ported to this platform.

Bottom line: Bioshock isn't the usual tired FPS/survival horror retread. It is atmospheric, exhilarating, creepy, and deserves all of its accolades as a ground-breaking gaming landmark. I would recommend this to anyone wishing to experience one of the most enthralling games of the last decade.

In terms of performance, by the way, this game runs exceptionally-well on my 27" iMac (3 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4670+256 MB VRAM) on Snow Leopard in the game's default modes. Cranking up the resolution to the maximum screen resolution (2560x1440) and graphics details maxed out on all possible settings (shadows, water, etc) does result in a some choppiness. It's playable in that mode, but things get hairy in melee encounters with multiple splicers attacking simultaneously. For the best performance on a display this size, dropping the resolution and graphical options down a tick or two will improve display smoothness.

All in all, I'd give this game the highest rating I've ever given a game. Now, on to Bioshock 2!

Many people have already extensively discussed BioShock's story, features, and gameplay in reviews of the console versions of the game, so I'm just going to talk about a few things I've noticed as a long-time fan of first-person shooters.

*BioShock is one of the most well-written games ever. Even if you aren't familiar with Ayn Rand, the story is rich, moving, and deeply satisfying. The voice acting, character development, and cutscenes are all of very high quality.

*The underwater setting is unique (finally, a game not set on a distant planet, a tropical island, a military base, or some combination of those) and beautifully realized. The music, environmental sounds and Art Deco graphics are all well done and add a lot to the playing experience.

*Each level is designed well and contains a fair amount of territory to explore. You are on rails more or less, as in all FPS games, but there is enough freedom to avoid making the game feel oppressively linear.

*Overall, the game is not terribly difficult. Boss battles are only slightly harder than fights with generic enemies, for the most part, and there aren't any ridiculously difficult puzzles to solve. The developers focused more on the story and on making all aspects of the game fit together holistically, rather than on trying to come up with mega-challenges for diehard gamers.

*Replayability is high, due to the way weapons and powers are earned as well as to the ability to follow different strategies throughout the game. Having said that, BioShock isn't as chock full of hidden features, secret abilities, and obscure actions as Japanese games (the Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil series all come to mind here. And yes, I know SH and RE are survival horror games, not FPS's).

-----

Bottom line: despite being a port to the Mac, BioShock is still one of the best games currently available. Anybody who enjoys FPS and action games will dig BioShock. Judged on gameplay mechanics alone, BioShock is a four star game but the stunning graphics, high production values, and outstanding storyline push it to five stars.

I bought this game direct from Feral Interactive. Love the game and they have great customer support. They are fast and courteous. If you needed 'em, feel free to contact them. They are friendly like Amazon.com.

PROs: Great game play. Nice port for the MAC (exception for the driver NVIDIA driver issue). The XBOX 360 Wireless Controller is fully supported. I have the PC version of this game and the MAC version looks almost exactly like the PC version. The water rendering is different on the MAC side. Overall this game is a must have.

Only problem that I have is Apple has some NVIDA graphic card driver issues. This interferes with this game's performance, see below.

CONs: NVIDIA graphic card driver issues! NVIDIA graphic card driver issues! NVIDIA graphic card driver issues! I stated this three times because this game only plays for about 5-7 minutes till the game freezes. This is not Feral's problem. Apple needs to get their act together with NVIDIA and create a patch to update the existing driver.

I contacted Feral Technical Support (fast and courteous) and they acknowledged the NVIDIA driver issue immediately. Snow Leopard broke something within the NVIDIA graphic card driver. They've stated that they can't do much until Apple and NVIDIA corrects the Snow Leopard NVIDIA driver. I have Snow Leopard (disappointed in it) and Feral Interactive stated that they hope OS 10.6.2 update will resolve the freezing issue. Let's hope Apple gets it together. Also, Feral has issued an interim patch to help with the stuttering issue.

I have utilized BootCamp for the PC version of this game. This game plays beautifully on my Windows XP partition. I use the same graphic card (NVIDIA 8800) on both Operating Systems. So I know it's not a RAM and Graphic card issue.

It's difficult to put into words in any sort of new way the accolades of compliments this game received from professional publications whereas I wouldn't come across as sophomoric. I'll begin, then, with something small that sets me apart from those publications; personal computer specs!

MacPro (Early 2009 Edition)

Mac OS X 10.6.2/Quad-Core Xeon W3520 2.66GHz

3GB RAM/640GB HDD/2 SuperDrives (DVD-RW)/ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB

My intention is not to gloat I hope, I get a new computer every few years and this is the latestI had an MDD G4 1GHz/1GB RAM/Radeon 9800Pro for years.

If you've played the console editions as I have the one noticeable lower quality is in the introduction where your character is on the planeon the console versions, if I am not mistaken, this is rendered in real time using Bioshock's [Unreal 3] engine... here, it is videountil you crash, which is quite a short amount of time from when you click New Game anyway, and here's where the computer version shines (read; outshines).

The graphics are amazingyou have to *see* the water effects to really appreciate it. Almost every little detail of the game's locales has a very deliberately unique feel to it and the storyline will suck you in as it is tightly wound up in your actions. For a really good, visual review of this game I'd hunt down the Bioshock review on the GameTrailers com website.

As an extra note: This game takes advantage of multiple core CPUs and hunting down the INI located at "~/Library/Preferences/Feral Interactive/Bioshock/MacInit/Bioshock.ini" look for "HavokNumThreads=2" and change the "2" to the number of CPU cores you have. In my case this is "4". The game will not recognize a number higher than the amount of PHYSICAL CORES you have so forget about the hypothetical Hyperthreading number, FYI. The fluidity of the game was immediately noticeable after changing this value. For more on tweaking check out TweakGuides com's Bioshock pagejust about anything applicable to the PC version is applicable to the Mac version.

My Dell monitor's maximum resolution is 1680x1050 and Bioshock runs quite well at this resolution with all settings at maximum... the consoles max out at 1080p with the optimum set-up and can't compare to the computer version's resolution or textures/graphics.

Now, utilizing flip-flop politics, I digress to the storyline. Again I can't go into much detail because I won't regurgitate what's already been said, but as was the aphorism of Reading Rainbow(tm); "...but don't just take my word for it!" Even if you don't like first person shootersand I've read a handful of people comment agreeably from that campyou will very likely enjoy this game.

Get it.

WOW! What am amazing game! After hearing about this game for the longest time and seeing what a monster hit Bioshock 2 became, I had to try this out. I'm the to say that I am NOT a first person shooter person, I suck at it and I just don't get very involved in most of the FPS stories. But Bioshock changed the way I look at FPS, the story is complex and involving, it grabs you. And the way the stories are told is extremely creative and different from all the other games.

In conclusion, if you haven't played it, I highly recommend!!

Like many others out there I needed a solution to charge my controllers without having to plug them into the Playstation 3, so I purchased this little guy. Initially, it feels pretty cheap, the flip down prongs felt loose, and sure enough, the thing is very finicky at accepting power. I first plugged it directly into my power strip, and I kept finding that the controllers weren't charging, and that I had to move the charger slightly till it showed it had power, and then not breath. I thought maybe the shape of my power strip was contributing, so I put in a little 6" extension cable which allowed me to get the best possible contact, and still it was finicky. (Most likely the joint used for the flip out prongs).

I can't be sure of this, but after fussing with this for a month or so, one of my controllers just completely stopped working. Did the flaky connection fry the batteries?

I replaced the controller, and the charger (Pelican charge station is working great so far), and things seem to be happy.

Design: It's a plug that looks like a PS3, which is a pleasant surprise actually.

Effectiveness: Gets the job done. Takes about one or two hours to charge an empty controller.

Convenience: It charges up to two controllers simultaneously and comes with two free USB charger cables.

Quality: The charger was badly scratched up.

I'm satisfied. No need to look elswhere for me.

This is one of those rare items which I have had to return twice. The first one did not work at all--not even the red LED lit up. The second one turned on the LED but only one of the two ports worked.

It's on sale because it does not work.

On the bright side, it's one of the only USB power supplies that will activate the PS3 controller's charging circuit. I'm not sure what it is about the PS3 controller but it will not charge unless it's plugged into a USB port that is capable of initializing it such as this item or a USB port on a PS3 that is turned on (or a Wii that is sleeping).

I'll keep looking for a stand-alone PS3 controller charger. I'm afraid if I get another replacement it might set my house on fire.

Great little charger that does the job. Nothing fancy, but is effective at charging the controlers. It is kind of cool that it resembles a playstation 3.

Two words...BULLET CAM. Makes for an awesome gaming experience. This really is the best sniper game on the market. If you want a game where emphasis is placed on stealth and discreetness rather than a simple bang bang shoot 'em up, this is the game for you. You will not be disappointed.

Before I bought this game I was skeptical of the creator and of it being a let down of expectations being a sniper focused style of game. I could not be more wrong after playing it for only about 10 minutes. At first the controls and game play were new to me but once I got the concept it became very intuitive and smooth for my playing style. The campaign was a lot of fun and had some fairly challenging missions that, at times, needed a little of that tactical out of the box creative thinking to get passed certain parts or even survive.

After the campaign I was very excited to dip into the multiplayer and see if it would be as good as single player and hopefully better, and it was that and more. It keeps the same aspect of survival and tactical creativity as the campaign and is influenced more so by the opponents being real players. At first I found myself being overwhelmed and taken out easily but after a week my experience of gaming kicked in and I really took off.

All in all this is definitely worth $30 hands down...the Silver Star Edition is a must have as it includes a lot of cool stuff and extra weapons/side missions.

This game is a refreshing change of pace from other first-person shooters such as BF and COD (BF is more awesome :D) and the patience it takes to be great on the online battlefield is something that makes you feel more...idk how to describe it but...fulfilled, as a gamer.

I don't regret this purchase one bit...in fact this may be one of my favorite games of the past few years!

A great game for the PS3. The additional content makes the Silver Star Edition stand out even more than the regular version. Only thing about this I find unfair is I cannot give it 6 stars.

This game is an amazing effort. the graphics and sound are tight. The slow motion bullet cam of the bullet iinfliction massive wounds on the Germans is verceral fun ( I think they are Nazis) the Bonus DLC tucked away on this is nice too. Its unfortunate that the developers had to wash out all Nazi symbols. Its censored, Which does distance you from ;being there;

I'm still playing the game as of this writing meaning I have yet to finish it. Of what I played of the game so far, I can say that I like it more than Sniper Ghost Warrior part I, I never bought SGW P2 because it got too many bad reviews. (why do people come to the library & just blabber soo much about nothing, people using computers behind me are all talking about their kids & whatever who cares, go to Starbucks). So anyway, back to Sniper Elite. So the story, for those of you who don't know, is your an American Sniper during one of the World War's infiltrating Nazi Germany I think. Your job is to infiltrate areas & take out strategic targets, the common mission of the sniper. This requires lots of patience & waiting. Just like in real life, your not gonna go in & kill everyone & complete an objective right away, shots have to be timed & precise. It's a pretty good challenge. My only complaint of this game is the difficulty in killing some of the enemy's, for instance if you fire & your shot isn't exactly on target, it's almost like the enemy knows you've shot at him & ducks. Your mid sized weapon which if either the M1 or M40 is only effective at close range when by comparison, when enemy's are shooting at you with similar weapons, they hit even when your in the prone position at a distanced elevation they still get solid hits that can take you out. Your starting handgun, a Weld silenced sidearm, is only effective at point blank range almost. True to realism, your sniper rifle is without a doubt your best friend. Furthermore, I dont know how much vision soldiers had in those old World War tanks, but on this game, the tanks can see you & fire on you in varous locations, even when there's smoke & barely any light, it's almost like your wearing bright reflective gear & bells. Enemy snipers are able to locate you as soon as you enter an area, even if your sneak walking or crawling on your belly. When your looking back during bullet travel I know I'm like now how did that guy see me at this location? Key to staying alive is movement after shots, if you fire a shot & there's no background noise suppression like bells or whatever, then move right away because even if bad guys aren't in the immediate area, they will know where the shot came from. Overall, though i think the developer did a good job & if they're thinking of doing another then IMO I think the next sniper game should be of the Vietnam era, I dunno why one hasn't been made yet...

When I bought this item I was a little nervous because I was getting images of bubbles every in my head When I applied it to my ps3.But I was wrong, very very very easy to get rid of bubbles just takes a little time to escort the air bubbles to the side of the sticker's edge. But still very pleased with the outcome of it.The color and clearness of the image is crystal clear and covers your ps3 fully. The controller man it just gets better. Applying the sticker for the controller is also very very simple and bubble less.It took me seconds to get it on with only a little problem with the bottom stickers(because i wanted it to be perfect and look great like my new system skin XD ).all around great buy....I recommend this product to any ps3 owner

Demon's Souls is hands down my favorite game of all time. The art book/soundtrack CD are both very nice and well done. The strategy guide is very nice but it is NOT hardcover like the picture shows. The picture clearly shows a hardcover on the strategy guide and even shows the 2 edges of the cover extending slightly beyond the end of the pages but again this is very misleading. Infact the strategy guide is softcover and the 2 edges of the cover are FLUSH with all of the pages. I'm pointing this out so someone does not purchase this game based upon the picture and think that they are getting a hardcover strategy guide because this is not the case because the picture is wrong. Despite the fact that the strategy guide is softcover it is extremely well done and contains very useful information that helped me out greatly while playing this game.

Only buy this game if the price is right. Please do not pay 4 times the retail price that I paid for a new sealed copy when it was released in Europe last year (I live in the U.S. and imported it on the release date). Everything in the strategy guide PLUS much more can be found by simply visiting the demons souls wikidot website (google it).

If you are a collector and want this strategy guide then I think you should definitely buy this game at a reasonable price only. My only complaint against the strategy guide is that it provides the address to their demon's souls wikidot website on a few topics because they ran out of room (presumably they needed to keep the number of pages low enough so it can fit in the Black Phantom Edition box which includes the game case, artbook/soundtrack cd, and strategy guide).

If you can live without the hardcopy strategy guide then I recommend that you buy the normal U.S. release of Demons Souls (it is more than 1 year old now and pretty cheap) and just use the demons souls wikidot website (google it) as your strategy guide! You will thank me later when you realize how much money you saved by doing this.

Twisted Metal (2012) is based on a great franchise with excellent core gameplay. However, this newest release tries to apply an assortment of mode variations (taken from FPS and racing games) with questionable results.

Instead of being able to choose from a macabre cast of characters (as in past titles) you find yourself tied to (3) players: Sweettooth, Mr.Grimm, and Dollface (which are unlocked in that order). Each character has (3) 2-3 min movies that blend live-action and CGI to great effect, even though the middle cinematic is partially relegated to flashbacks from the original video.

Combat and vehicle handling are tight. Weapons are varied and mostly balanced, and the helicopter Talon is actually pretty fun to use. As a result, online play can be enjoyable if you select the right matches and modes. However, in an attempt to add variety, the modes too often stray from what is fun.

Once vehicles have been unlocked by a character's gang they can be used during other matches. It seems kind of odd to use Sweettooth on Mr.Grimm's motorcycle, or to drive Shadow with Dollface but that's what you'll find. (Axel is only playable as DLC). The good part is that you can use your favorite car in almost every level. However, the PROBLEM is that the new level designs almost force you to select certain cars to proceed in single player or be competitive online.

Ultimately, you end up choosing what works best for certain scenarios and less of who you would LIKE to play as. Twisted Metal was always a car combat game built around single elimination death matches. The new game changes that, and not necessarily for the better. On the rooftops there will be an inordinate number of people using the helicopter Talon.

Likewise, in checkpoint races everyone will choose Kamikaze or Crimson Fury (paint variations of the fastest vehicle). Here you must beat your opponents to certain destinations without missing too many gates. The problem is that this is NOT Mario Kart, or Blur where weapons will knock people off the track. In those games, any vehicle has a CHANCE to win. In this game Crimson Fury or Kamikaze will ALWAYS win. Unless you choose one or the other, you have absolutely no chance of winning. Missles and even special moves (with the exception of the magnet) will never knock the cars off of their path. In addition, going through checkpoints replenishes health.

Cage Matches force you to do battle in certain sections of a level surrounded by lighted green grids. If you stay outside the grid for too long, you take damage. The problem is that vehicles with less health/shields will usually die if you are not concentrating on making your way back into the "cage" at EVERY given moment. Less shields = more damage = death if you get lost enroute. I finally beat these levels with Mr. Grimm, but only because his special move does an insane amount of damage once you charge it up (160) and I killed each car with two direct hits and no misses. This does NOT work online with skilled players. Most people end up selecting the same tougher vehicles.

Other levels have Juggernaut trucks that endlessly respawn enemies. You must either destroy them and all the other vehicles on the map, or continue killing cars until you have reached a quota. This is more frustrating than fun, since it offers little opportunity to search levels for new weapons or ammo. Instead, you must destroy everything as quickly as possible and hope your vehicle spawns in a good location.

Throughout the 18 levels or so of single player there are only 2-3 REAL deathmatch battles. Ultimately this is where I feel most disappointed. Twisted Metal is NOT a FPS. Capture the flag (with gang leaders you return to a missle launcher), races, and cage matches really do not do the game mechanics justice. Combine that with a limited number of characters and cinematics, and I feel somewhat let down.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OVERALL:

So, all in all the core mechanics are still great. Graphics have low textures, but are still manageable. The 9 cinematics are well done (although more would have been welcome), and the helicopter is a decent addition to gameplay.

Yet aside from VERY SPECIFIC online modes, a lot of this game just isn't as fun as previous entries. The bottom line is that most of the new modes do not work in context. I wish this had been a game that played to the strengths of the series without trying to revolutionize the core gameplay.

Twisted Metal is probably still a game worth buying, but I ABSOLUTELY recommend waiting until the price goes below $30.

7.5/10

Mmkay, how to start... First off, don't hate the messenger! o_o This review is purely opinionated and should be taken as such. I'm the kind of gamer that's in it for the story and single player experience, thus I'm most likely not going to touch upon Online play. Sorry peeps. :( Plus, I'm doing this for the casual gamers out there, the ones who play for mindless fun, want a new game, and aren't hardcore 50+ hour gamers. If you're on the fence, I'm writing this for you! :) With that said, lets roll!

I really liked the game as a whole. Why? I'm glad you asked! :3 The graphics are were very nice! Very few levels to play, but they were huge! The cars are well made. The graphics don't go as far as KZ 2 or 3, but there is vast improvement since the release of TM: Black!

My moment of disappointment... Yes, it is true as other reviewers mentioned. There are only 3 characters who have a story in the campaign. The way it works is the cars that have different abilities, not the driver. So much for character individuality :(

I could go on about what other reviewers mentioned, but what I really want to put emphasis on is gameplay! I'm surprised people mention so little of it. If you wanna hear about characters and story, many others have written such. >_>

Ok, let me say that I'm am an avid gamer and I enjoy various genres and challenges! I can comfortably say I'm not the best gamer ever, but I'm pretty good (I'm not boasting, I swear!). o_o So now let me place the warning here:

CASUAL GAMERS BEWARE!!! lol

Having played the campaign mode on Normal difficulty, I'll admit, it was tough! O_O There are 3 difficulty levels, (Normal, Hard, Twisted). That's 3 difficulties of kicking player butt! D:

On top of a tricky button configuration, there is a LOT going on... When you play this game, you'll be dodging bullets and missiles, trying to aim a chargeable weapon, AND trying to maneuver important obstacles! This isn't a simple game, by no means! This game WILL in fact test your dexterity!

Something else to consider is your patience as a gamer! Personally, I can put up with a lot, but there were times where I became VERY frustrated! In the campaign, it will feel as if you (the player) are public enemy #1 at all times. The AI rarely fights each other, keep this in mind! ._. This is especially apparent when you fight a mini boss called the Juggernaut. It's a semi that has increased armor, has potent firepower, and spits out a new opponent to fight every so often if you don't beat him fast enough. When this mini boss gets a twin to help, and other enemy drivers are trying to kill you, it becomes one Hell of a fight... Then they make you fight 2 of them with badass upgrades further into the campaign... I nearly cried when I got to that stage... T-T

The races (yes, TM has races, crazy, I know :P...) can be tricky to maneuver when people are tossing your vehicle around with various explosions and ramming. They were fun, don't get me wrong, but in those moments of cheap shots, I was ready to use words that would stupefy an entire nunnery for generations to come! o_O

Oh I must absolutely mention the Electric Cage matches -.-

In a level, there will be a barrier that changes positions. Think of "capture the zone" type of gameplay. You have to fight in this barrier. If you stay outside the barrier for too long, health depletes. Now the challenge is trying to race to the next location, and often the AI would cheap shot me by freezing my vehicle (a special move that can be done) in place.

At the end of it all, I will say that this game made me work for that victory, lol! I personally appreciate that, but I also understand some gamers out there don't want an uphill battle, but in contrast seek mindless, casual fun. Just know that playing the campaign will be a challenge! :3

To conclude, my recommendation on buying this game, especially if you're the casual type, is to wait. I don't confidently think it's worth a $60 experience. BUT I will say I'm so happy I pre-ordered this, because Amazon had an offer to upgrade to the Limited Edition version, which came with a Redeem code that gives you a downloadable version of the PS2's Twisted Metal Black for free! I loved Black, so that was quite a bonus! The more skillful gamers out there will have a lot of fun with this game, but everyone else should know that there will be a struggle. I'd almost say you'll want to have the attitude of, "This is meant to be more challenge than entertainment". Definitely rent or borrow from a friend first, because the only way to know for sure how you'll like it is to play it personally! Other than that, I wish all of you happy gaming, good luck, and thank you so much for taking the time to read my review! :D

P.S. I'm so freaking sorry it's a long review, I was caught up in being informative! D:

PROS

The visual of this game is better than I expected. Environments and cars look pretty good.

Insane multiplayer mode, this game has probably one of the most exciting multiplayer modes.

I really could give this game 4.5 just because of the greatness of the multiplayer mode.

Sound effect and Soundtracks are just great, fits really well to the game(and i love More human than human by Rob Zombie)

Pretty dope campaign mode cutscenes

Huge maps and variety of weapons and vehicles.(which proly makes up for the lack of characters)

MP server is fixed!!!!

.

.

CONS

To be honest, Campaign story does not really live up to my expectations. I was expecting something close to TM Black.

Balance issues, especially Mr. Grimm's bike, it seems that there is really no point of choosing Mr. Grimm's bike, because you will die so quickly.

Little bit of Camera angle issues..

.

.

To be honest, i thought this game was going to be another overhyped disaster like the Brink

but Twisted Metal PS3 is actually a great game and it was definitely worth preordering.

I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5

Twisted Metal does it again. I'm not gonna go ahead and spoil the good stuff, but this game is crazy. And of course twisted... Graphics are good, storyline and gameplay is awesome. If you've played the previous TMs, you'll see what I'm talking about ;].

Like many others, I've been a long time fan since 1995. This is without a doubt the best Twisted Metal game ever made, but there are alot of issues that slightly disappointed me.

After already finishing story mode, I can say it is probably the most disappointing thing of all. The live action cut scenes are done very well, but the stories just aren't as interesting as I hoped they would be. Twisted Metal Black remains the highlight of the series as far as story telling goes. In Black we witnessed the depressing tale of Dollface, a terrifying realistic look at Mr. Grimm, and found out why Sweet Tooth's head remains in flames at all times. I was hoping for a story line with only 3 drivers to at least give an in depth look at these characters and see what really makes them tick. It doesn't even try to explain why Sweet Tooth has a flaming head. In one scene he's a normal guy, the next his head is on fire when he puts the mask on. What? Having such a quick shift with no explanation is no better than Twisted Metal 4's opening movie. Come on guys.

It's just disappointing in general not having all the unique drivers the series is known for. It was so much fun to go through with different characters to see their motivations and fate after winning the tournament. It added alot of replay value to the games, and I really do miss that aspect. Even though we have many familiar vehicles and special weapons making a return, there's just something strange about Mr. Grimm driving the iconic clown's ice cream truck or seeing Dollface fitted into Axel's killing machine. Another thing I really don't care for are the races. You race through checkpoints around large maps while blasting each other and trying not to fall off cliffs or rooftops. This can become very irritating, especially due to the fact that if you miss a certain amount of checkpoints you self destruct. Also, some of the boss fights are a little cheap, but they are epic encounters to say the least. These are gripes from a long time fan, but I just felt I had to address them.

In the long run, it's all about the gameplay and amazing multiplayer. Offline or online this game is so much fun. Fluid controls, dozens of levels, and tons of awesome vehicles make this game the best in the series by far. Co-op is as fun as ever, and being able to hop online with a friend in split screen is a blast. Custom paint jobs for all the cars is a nice little addition as well, plus a nice selection of different side arms like shotguns, semi-autos, and even magnums. I don't regret buying this game at all, and I'm so happy it's finally made a comeback. If you have never played a game in the series before, this is the place to start.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I didn't know what to expect from a lower-priced racing wheel for the PS3 (I've played with one of the wheels that cost in the triple figures at a friend's house and must say that they're really cool and add a lot to racing gameplay). What I was happy about was that this is officially licensed through SCEA as an Official accessory for the PS3. That alone let me know this wouldn't be a disastrous product. Perhaps Sony's involvement in officially licensing this product for their system had some effect on putting a reasonable pricetag on this product because, honestly, the dropoff from higher-priced wheels is not terribly noticeable and certainly should NOT be a dealbreaker.

The one qualm is you really need to make sure you've got the suction cups stuck down as tight as they will go. I've heard complaints that the steering and braking (the unit comes with a separate pedal for that by the way, along with an accelerator pedal) can be a little sensitive but that's essentially due to the game-play designs of the various games which are compatible with this. They are trying to accurately replicate high-speed car handling and driving conditions, hence it will require skill to master your driving techniques. Overall, I have no major complaints and couldn't be happier with owning this product. I can honestly say I do not feel the need to upgrade to a higher-priced racing wheel. Probably only the most hardened racing game enthusiast would pass on this product in favor of one that costs twice as much.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I play Grand Turismo 5 on occasion as well as other racing games. I am not a die hard fan of these games so I never considered dropping $100+ on a steering wheel controller. I had used my friends Logitech wheel once and found it fun but the cost was just too hgh. After seeing this less expensive wheel, I decided to give it a try with just modest expectations. I was very surprised when I received it and saw how sturdy it is. I hooked it up to my PS3 and it was immediatley found. Within minutes I was in my first GT5 race and realizing how much harder it is using a wheel vs. a normal controller!

After several races, I was able to settle in and learn the sensitivity. The wheel does have turn limits unlike the Logitech wheel I had used before so that took a bit to get used to. Obviously if you are racing online all the time and want a more accurate representation of driving, you would have to spend more for a different wheel. However, this alternative is perfect for people like me.

It doesn't require any type of permanent placement (screws, nails etc...) as it has suction cups that hold very well to the wooden TV stand I had it on. the paddle shifters are nice and match a lot of cars these days. The pedals hold well to the carpet. With all of this, I am very happy that I got this controller!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I'm not a fan of 3rd Party accessories, never was. Call it OCD or brand loyalty but I like seeing "Sony" or "Playstation" on all the accessories for my PS3. You also get quality consistency with 1st party accessories. Now, this isn't made by Sony but it does bear the official brand logo and is licensed by them. For me that says that this passess all of Sony's expectations and they allowed HORI to put their logo on it.

The wheel is fantastic. It feels good in the hands, the button layout is great and the response is good. And for the price of a game it won't break the bank too hard. You could go with the higher priced Logitech set if you wanted. Yes, that set has a stick shift, yes that set has a smoother look and yes that set has the button layout to mirror the DualShock 3. It also costs almost double this one. Since I'm not a hardcore race fan or own a lot of racing games I'm not willing to blow $110 on a wheel. The HORI one is all I need.

Obviously this is an affordable wheel and you can't expect what you are going to get with a more expensive wheel like the G27 or the G25 in terms of size and pedals, but in terms of being able to have fun with it making your expectations realistic about a gaming wheel, this product meets all the expectations.

I bought it for a couple things. At the time I never had tried a gaming wheel before and i wanted to know what a wheel feels like for gaming, so i was looking for something not to expensive in case it wasn't all that.

Another reason why I got it is because it was licenced by Sony and I trusted it was going to work well with GT5, I had been playing with my regular control and I wanted to amp up my experience since the game is realistic on its own.

I was very skeptical and with very low expectations because before buying anything I look for video reviews on YouTube, I saw a guy reviewing it with GT5 and I noticed that when the guy on the game moved the arms, it was delayed from when the actual player moved the wheel.

This was going to really dissapoint me because you want the wheel to move at the same time as the graphs do, but even then I still wanted to have it, the price felt right and I went ahead and get it.

The delivery was very fast and better than I thought, I opened it immediately as I was very excited waiting for it. I was surprised that the quality of the material of the wheel was very good. The size was small, but I was expecting worse, it actually came a lot better than I thought. It's a very good looking wheel, it even has the PlayStation logo on it making it look official..

The pedals are plastic, very gaming like pedals, just enough to have fun with them, but for the price I was happy that it even came with pedals at all. It's a nice thing to have.

I put it on right away and to my surprise the wheel is very accurate, I don't know what weird settings had the guy on YouTube but the wheel responds perfectly and very realistic with GT5, it has the exact same timing as the driver on the graphs do, and that alone made me completely satisfied.

I can even go further and say that driving GT5 with this thing is way easier than with the controller, as soon as I started playing it I already had better results than with the regular PS3 controller. In fact I got gold in international licences that with the regular control I was not able to get.

Another great thing about it is that it comes with vibration just like the PS3 controller has, in some reviews it said that it didn't have this feature, but it does and it works well because it follows the same timing as the PS3 one gives you. It's a nice thing to have on the wheel.

The setting are easy to set up on the game, in fact they come already automatically set up for GT5, and you can still change them as this works just like the regular controller.

It comes with paddle shifters, so you can have fun playing manual driving with this as well, many of the nice cars on GT5 use paddle shifters in real life, so having a stick it's not necessary for those, but paddle shifters are, and this wheel has them, they feel good enough.

It comes with succion cups to keep it still on a glass coffee table, it is the only thing that provides to keep it still, so if you want to keep it still on something other than glass you will have to come up with your own solution. I do have a glass coffee table so this was not a problem for me, if I wet the cups it keeps it firm enough.

What I do is I lift my coffee table with two tall chairs one on each side, plus milk cans and it stays on the perfect height of a real car, then I put the pedals against the TV stand so they don't move forward and the gaming experience is very good, quite realistic if you ask me, considering what I'm working with. I have a big HDTV Bravia so it looks nice.

The pedals are very small so you will have to play with your socks, because with shoes you won't be able to respond well to the driving, but they came already programmed well for the brake and the gas so you don't have to worry about that.

In order for the wheel to be recognized you have to plug it to the PS3 before your turn on the console, otherwise it won't read it, also it doesn't come with connections for the PS2 which has a lot of good car games, and I think that's the only downside of it.

But overall with all the good things about it I mentioned this wheel meets the expectations of fun good playing and very accurate. With a fair price this wheel does deserve 5 stars and I recommend it to all those that want to start to enjoy your car games already, specially GT5, while you save to upgrade to something like the PlaySeat and the G27. Why wait when you can already start having fun with it?

Pro's

1) Racing wheel by Hori justifies the price..

2) Ease of use.

Con's

1) The wheels and pedals are small.

2) I know that there was no force feedback in this one, but even the vibrations are less.

3) I lose 3-5 sec per lap in GT5 which is bad as compared to a controller.

4) Not very comfortable if u use straps or hook in onto a table.

However make sure you pay attention to the flight videos for the plane it is not for rookies unless you want to destroy it really fast.

I ordered this edition mostly because of the plane since it looks really amazing and the graphic novel is also nice, as far as the game goes i was hooked from the first mission is just a really amazing game, the only thing that bothers me is the fact of being unable to jump unless I'm commanded to but besides that is great. My only problem is that both amazon and the box itself says that it comes with a Sam Fisher poster but it doesn't, this a realle awesome edition and worth the money but if they wanted to put the cherry on top would've been that poster.

These are exactly what they look like. They peel off and then you put them on your pads to give them some decoration. One big hint don't press down when you first put them on. Start pressing from the center and move out to get rid of air bubbles. Other than that, they work fine.

It works as expected. You put in the batteries, plug in the USB receiver, cut the controller on, and... ouila! You've got an extra controller for your PS3. Too bad there's no rumble and no six-axis support.

Also, though the HOME button being out-of-the-way (a couple cm under the D-pad) is okay, as I wouldn't want to hit it accidentally, the start and select buttons are a royal pain to deal with (as you have to curl your right thumb back to hit them, usually with a fingernail).

The Rams logo is pretty cool, though.

This has a good grip and its comfortable to use. The things to consider when purchasing this item is the lack of vibration capability and the little small start and select buttons located beside the right joystick. I would instead recommend purchasing the ps3 remote covers for your favorite team which keeps your ps3 remote working with all the features it was meant to have.

Then some psycho person threw it out the door and it broke into pieces. =( i want to buy another one but the psycho also broke the ps3 modem too. *FML* but with all that drama aside, it worked just great! i would recommend it if you are a big fan of NFL football teams...

I was very excited about the Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang Pro-Guitar when it was first announced.

I received mine yesterday (11/29) and was eager to try it out of the box. Straight out of the box, I noted that the overall body was still plastic but its heft and build are quite solid. The guitar comes in 3 pieces and snap together quite easily. I plugged it in along with the USB dongle into the PS3...and the game crashed. Tried it again, same result. So, I thought that maybe I had too many USB dongles in at once so I tried just plugging in the Mustang dongle by itself. At that point, the game launched fine. So here are a couple of warnings up front for you:

1. This guitar is not like you other guitar controllers. It actually functions as an alternate PS3 controller, so be sure that you are actually synced up with the dongle.

2. This guitar is a little bit finicky straight off the bat. I would suggest that you sync this guitar up prior to syncing up with other instruments. I haven't found the right combination yet as to what WON'T make it crash, but plugging in 1 at a time appears to work so far.

So, with the unpleasantness out of the way, how does it play? Wonderfully!! All 6 strings are nylon coated steel (which disconcertingly sound like plastic, but they hold up) and all 102 buttons along the 17 frets respond accurately and with no visible delay. If you're a real guitar player, you'll marvel at the realistic response; however, you may complain (and justifiably) that the fret buttons are all the same width and you won't be able to tell which "string" is which. If you're hung up on this, wait until the Squier (which doubles as a real, fully-stringed guitar AND a controller) comes out in the Spring for a rumored value of $280 +/-. The only other complaint that purists may have is that the "notes" on the guitar highway are a combination of numbers placed over strings. No, they aren't notes they just tell you which fret/string you have to hit. If you're used to reading sheet music, you may not be familiar about the 16th fret on the 2nd string...you may know it only as a note and a place to put your finger without consciously thinking how many frets down it is. If you're looking for actual notes, you're out of luck there.

The video game tutorials on RB3 were also fairly helpful in getting a beginner guitar player up to speed, but don't expect these lessons alone to make you a bona fide guitar player on their own steam. Still, they WILL teach you about the numbering and string schematics and also instruct you which fingers are appropriate for which chords. It's not a bad primer.

Overall, it's a fun guitar and the gameplay is phenomenal. Why they can support over 102 different possible fret/string combinations and yet be unable to support drums/keyboard/guitar/bass/vocalists without entering you into All Instrument Mode (as I explain in my review of Rock Band 3) is quite beyond me. My only other complaint is that for a guitar which costs so much, it would have been nice if they had opted for something other than a plastic body; I do feel entitled to something better for that kind of cash. Beyond that, it does work as advertised.

When I got my MadCatz Fender Mustang Guitar Controller, I felt kind of sorry for it because for some reason someone felt it was necessary to put this message on the front of its packaging: "Not A Real Guitar". No, I guess not. A "real guitar" is like my Fender Strat which sat in the closet unplayed for 20 years due to a disheartening lack of real guitar playing talent. To me, that's a real guitar.

I've had my MFMGC for only a week now and I'm sure I've played it more than I played my Strat in 20 years. The disheartening lack of real guitar playing talent is not a problem on an instrument that is not a real guitar! With some computer help, playing this thing is a ton of actual fun and I actually feel like I'm gaining some real guitar playing talent as a bonus.

I'm not a great judge of whether a guitar-like object is big or small, so I'll provide some useful dimensions for you to decide for yourself.

Neck length (nut to 17th fret): 405mm

Width head (E to E centers at nut): 34mm

Width tail (E to E centers at 17th fret): 45mm

Width strings (E to E centers on strings): 47mm

Some things about playing this are a lot easier than a "real guitar" and some things are harder. Obviously I don't have wires slicing into my finger tips. However, I think that if you play with this thing for hours a day (which is easy to do), you'll go far in preparing your fingertips for real guitar strings. The button action is definitely not real strings, but it's not a terrible substitute if you're not fussy. The button action seems pretty capable of doing what needs to be done. I have had a button get stuck pressed in, but it's very rare and the RockBand feedback points it out right away. Tapping that button cures the problem.

I'm no expert but playing RockBand3 with this seems to foster good habits. The weird one is that you never look at the thing. Never. Harmonix made a fuss about how cool their fret fingering feedback is and that's true, however, they intentionally kept quiet about string feedback because, of course, there is none. I find myself resting the pick on a string just so I can know where it or its neighbor is when I need it. On a "real guitar" that would mute that string.

Some RockBand specific features are good, some not so good. For example, this device can automatically calibrate your audio and video latency for optimal game play. The menu in RockBand to use this feature was kind of confusing, but eventually it seemed to work. I do not like the overdrive feature being tied to the "Select" button. It would have been better had they put it on the down pad or maybe the X. Overdrive still works fine if you tip the neck up to some steep angle, but with complex playing that can be tricky if you're sitting down.

I've played this probably over 50 hours now and I'm still on the original 3 AA batteries. Could be worse for a wireless device. I should note that the battery compartment doesn't have a stupid retaining screw so you don't have to find a small screwdriver just to change the batteries like you did on other RockBand guitar controllers.

Now we come to the coolest part about this unreal guitar. I had thought that if I were going to design such a thing I wouldn't reinvent the wheel but instead I'd use a standard music instrument digital interface. And indeed, they did and they even put a standard MIDI output port on this. This feature makes the price suddenly pretty interesting just for a MIDI controller. After some fussing, I was finally able to hook the Mustang up to a MIDI to USB converter and get Ubuntu on my laptop to see the MIDI events. Then I used the awesome and free music editor Rosegarden to redirect the MIDI events back out to Fluidsynth, a free software synthesizer. This allowed me to play the guitar controller and have the sound come out my laptop. There's a bit of latency with such a setup, but it proves the controller is serious about standard MIDI output. It's not going to be the best guitar-like MIDI controller in the world, but for educational purposes and simple guitar track recording, I think it's great. One odd thing is that if you hit an open string, it tends not to ever decay depending on the patch. However, when you hit a fretted note, the note decays after you let up on the fret button. The way to cancel an open string note is to press a button on that string. It's workable. There's even a mode (press "Start") to send note events by pressing the fret buttons and ignoring strumming (think fretboard tapping). I also confirmed that the strings were velocity sensitive I don't think it's extremely fine, but there are at least two levels of intensity for hitting a string. I should also mention the mysterious headphone jack which disables the MIDI output. I don't know what it's for, but I didn't hear anything with headphones.

So there you have it. This is not a "real guitar". But it is a real musical instrument (technically a part of one) and a pretty fancy one at that. I'm having a great time with it and for me it's a better way to improve "real guitar" playing skills than playing a real guitar.

Unable to find a Logitech G27 racing wheel last night I ended up buying the pro guitar for RB3. So far I have found it just as hard as learning to play a real guitar except my fingers don't hurt from holding down strings. I think this guitar is a good aid in helping one learn to play because it keeps your interest longer than say a real guitar and book or lesson. However if you are expecting to pick this up and be a pro playing medium or even hard in a months time than you might not have much fun. It will take time patience and dedication. I'm sure it will be months before I get past easy, even if I find the time to practice\play everyday. On a real guitar I know about 5 chords barely. On the normal guitar controllers I was able to complete all songs in Guitar Hero 1-3 on hard with all stars (except for one song on GH 3) but anyway... Right now I'm having trouble playing songs with the PRO Guitar for RB3 that use two strings and 3 buttons. I certainly don't feel like a rockstar when I'm struggling with only 2 strings and 3 fret buttons. I find RB3 overly challenging using this guitar(games are fun right?), but at the same time I feel like I'm going to be able to apply what I am trying to do with the RB3 pro guitar to my real acoustic guitar. And after all it would be pretty awesome if I'm ever able to play Free Bird on Pro Medium. I mean much much cooler and rockstar-esque than using that 5 button regular guitar controller.

Please try this product before you buy, if you are a real guitar player, it at first, doesn't quite feel like a real guitar. Although, after about an hour of an adjustment period (and a pick is necessary), it starts feeling better and works quite well. I have also tried out the more expensive Squire Pro Guitar model, which has a much better feel, but is slightly less accurate than this one. If you don't already own an electric, the Squire one would be ideal, and if you have one, the Mustang Pro should be fine. The Pros on this guitar are the realistic strumming mechanism, close to the size and scale of a Mustang Guitar, wireless functionality and the amazing accuracy of hitting complex chords and strums. The only downside is getting used to the buttons vs real strings, but after the adjustment period, its not so frustrating.

I just got my guitar controller today,

I have been a semi pro guitar player for 35 years (meaning I have been paid to play, but never made a living at it) I have turned my nose up at the guitar hero and rock band franchises because of the unrealistic guitars but I have been having a great time with the pro drumset and had the mustang guitar on pre order for more than a month before it arrived.

Well it arrived in the mail today and I rushed to put it together and start playing.

I am pleasantly surprised that there doesn't seem to be any notable latency at all. The fret buttons don't feel very much like guitar strings, but they do not take long to get used to at all. This could be a big plus for those who do not play guitar regularly and are not prepared to deal with the pain of getting your fingers accustomed to guitar strings.

I don't like that RB3 docks points for hitting extra notes, but I can't imagine how they would score otherwise. I am not used to reading music or playing songs "note for note" I usually do a great deal of improvisation when playing actual guitar, so this game is teaching me discipline I have never had before. Over all its a great accessory and I am enjoying it quite a bit. My biggest disappointment is the lack of pro guitar tracks in the DLC.

I love the sports theme, but this controller has uncomfortable joysticks and the L1,R1 and L1,L2 buttons are hard to use compared to PS3 sixaxis controller.
