Its difficult to wax poetic about a cable if it works well you should never even notice that its there.

And I want to be careful here not to wade into a discussion of how much a cable is worth, especially when talking about digital signals that are either there, or not.

I pondered the question of $3 or $300 cables for a long while, and chose to hedge my bets by buying this one for the following reasons:

a) Its pricing places it right in the middle of the pack.

b) you can see just by looking at it why it might merit this price.

c) It would be madness for SCEA to sell a product as graphically intense as the PS3 and hobble it with poor quality cables. (These cables are made by SCEA too.)

So what do I get? I get extremely high cable construction quality, and a set of extra long cables. The 10-foot USB cable length is a boon since it lets me position myself comfortably away from the monitor.

The cable jacket is a very flexible cloth like material that makes it look like this cable will last forever, no matter how tightly I squeeze it through the openings in my entertainment center. The ends fit well into my HDMI connectors and are supposed to be gold plated.

All I care about now, is that the images are wonderfully clear ... and I can safely go back to ignoring cables.

Yes yes, I know, as long as you're getting a decent quality HDMI 1.3a cable it doesn't make any difference what you get. Still, this is far from the most overpriced cable around, and it is nice.

What I really love about it is the USB cable it includes. As others have mentioned, the material it's made out of is great (the HDMI cable is the same way, but that's less relevant since it's behind your TV and you'd hardly ever move it). It's almost like a cloth or something-I've never seen a cable built like this before. It doesn't seem to "curl" up like most cables do.

I'd prefer the PS3 just use wired controllers, but that cable is a decent compromise. Frankly I wish it had been included with the PS3... It's also 10 feet long which is great.

I actually found a use for the short USB cable included with the PS3-I have my PS2/PS1 memory card adapter hooked to it, since that only needs to sit next to the system itself.

Note that these nifty USB cables are also sold in a separate 2 pack for slightly less. I ended up buying those too so I can hook up multiple controllers.

I work for no companies, sponsored by no companies, and bound by no companies, therefore I am going to give every reader the cold hard truth with no bias.

Hello everyone, I'm a pro DJ residing in Japan. Furthermore being such, I am a pretty big audiophile. I personally tested and researched my fare share of audio equipment such as turntables, CD players, mixers, receivers, amplifiers speakers, and cables etc. to try to find that optimal sound quality. As a hobbyist I am also a videophile that likes more than his fare share of movies and video games. With a library of about 500 DVDs (which I now would like to sell to replace with the same movies on Blu-Ray) and a video game count you wouldn't believe me if I told you. I really do love my electronics and want the best quality of presentation I can get. I'm sorry to give such a long background presentation about me, I just want everyone to know how serious and passionate I am about this stuff.

Now an analogy dealing with HDMI / Gold vs. Silver

There is no racial undertones in this analogy but I felt human beings are the best comparison I could make. If my mother sent me a letter in the mail, when the postman is en-route to deliver it, it doesn't matter what color skin is wrapped around the mailman or what gender he/she is. It doesn't matter if they were sick the day of my delivery and replaced by another worker of a different race. The letter will be delivered inevitably and regardless anything. HDMI is a delivery medium like a mailman to deliver integrated audio/video to its destination. As long as it gets there is all that matters. Question, what does gold and silver have to do with the delivery of the binary 1s and 0s? Answer, absolutely nothing. Digital is digital. My absolute shortest possible answer for all your questions is, either it works or it doesn't. With A/V cables it mattered because it was analog (and yes I used Monster then), with digital nothing changes.

Do I need 120 Hertz HDMI cables?

No you don't, another gimmick just to take your money. "There is no such thing." I don't know if Amazon accepts external weblinks so I will tell you what to Google search to find the complete end all article on this topic. The website name is Audioholics dot com and the article name is "Do I Need 120 Hertz HDMI Cables?"

Prices

Even though the Sony cables are reasonably priced in the HDMI cable market, they are still overpriced. My cables I bought in Japan were in a bargain bin and I paid ¥400 (US $4.00) for approximately a 15 inch cable. The packaging was plastic wrap and the only thing written on it was the length of the cable and a UPC code. No brand/company name, address, anything else printed on the package or the cables. I had no qualms about buying it because I knew 100% it would perform exactly the same as the top end cables. The price only changed due to cable length, the shorter and longer cables being $2.00 and $8.00 respectively.

Driving in a straight line / Cable Length

You're a celebrity driving in your McLaren F1 supercar. Top speed 240mph (386kph). You drag race it in a straight line and redline it, you are still pretty safe. You try to turn a corner at top speed though and you're dead. The only thing that could "potentially" affect an HDMI cable's quality is the cable length. The shorter the cable the better. When a cable is short and straight the path that the data travels down is more direct and safer. When it is longer and starts to curl and curve it gets more dangerous and there is the possibility that the signal could break up a little bit at times. But really even it doesn't matter so much because those chances for data loss are slim, which is why I used the words "potentially" and "possibility".

Final answer

The cheapest cable is the same, buy it. I took the guess work out of everything for you guys, hope you appreciate it. Remember shop smarter, not harder.

I can honestly tell you that as long as the HDMI wire you buy is properly shielded, 1080p certified,ect.. it doesnt make a difference if it costs 5 bucks or 100(Im not saying go by the cheapest possible wire,Im stating that labeling "for use with PS3" is a sales ploy in the sense that any decent HDMI wire can b successfully used with a PS3. If you read the reviews for some of the cheaper wires & make sure that they certify them to do what u need them to(whether it be bluray or video game console ANY GOOD HDMI WIRE WILL SUFFICE AS LONG AS ITS SHIELDED & 1080p CERTIFIED!), u will save a bundle.. I have a monster wire that normally runs 100 bucks & I have bought several different cheaper brands commonly found on amazon in the 5 to 7 dollar range, there was no difference in picture or sound(and I have a high end receiver so if there was any benefit to paying more for HDMI wires I would, being that I am willing to overspend when theres a benefit to it.( I tried all combinations of wires from Verizon HD box, Bluray player, PS3 ect...All to my receiver then to my 50" Samsung LCD, so any difference to discern would be noted) Bottom line, shop around read the reviews, and never believe anything that comes out of a salesmans mouth!

I'm not one for boring colours. I have an Electrolyte Green car, wear crazy shoes and like to accessorize my electronics with colourful cases. So, it's only natural that I would want to cover up our boring black PS3 controllers with something a bit more interesting. This silicone skin is the perfect solution. Tasteful and fun while also adding to the functionality of the device. The silicone has a nice feel to it and makes gripping the controller easier and more comfortable. This skin doesn't get in the way of plugging our controller into our off-brand charging station and maintains a snug fit. It does collect dust and fur over time, but any silicone will do that. Just pop it off, rinse and let dry. This is the perfect silicone skin, and it's cheap too!

Picked this bundle up the other day as its a great deal for what you get in the box. New console, Uncharted 3, free year of PS Plus. Then with the Plus membership you get a bunch of free games from the PS Store. Battlefield 3, Saints Row 3 to name a few. The PS Plus is $50 by itself and its bundled here for free. If 250GB is not enough you can always upgrade the hard drive to a 500GB drive later on. 250GB is plenty for me and this will suffice until the PS4 comes out.

The console was heavier and sturdier than I expected with the size. It also fits perfectly underneath the nightstand with plenty of breathing room so it stays cool all the time. Not much noise even after playing for hours & netflix. The PS3 have such absolutely stunning HD visuals so no complaints about video quality. People keep mistaking my games with movies. No lag on start-up/shut down or when switching between games.

A year of PS+ is a damn steal. I downloaded such excellent free games and demos that introduced me to even more games I otherwise would have skipped out on. The discounts are unbelievable. Now I have too many games lined up.

I didn't expect much from Uncharted 3 but now I can't put it down. A+ addition to the bundle. Such engaging story and gameplay that just zaps your attention away from everything else...so now I'm looking forward to getting the rest of this great series. I thought it was exactly like Indiana Jones but damn I was wrong.

I thought buying a PS3 now months before the PS4 would be a mistake but nope...absolutely worth it. Too many fun games I haven't yet played that would occupy me for a long time. Other people in the house that aren't gamers also use it often to play youtube videos & watch on netflix. 250GB is plenty for me so yep this bundle is just what I was looking for.

I'd suggest downloading/updating stuff when you're about to sleep since there's a setting that automatically turns the system off when it finish installing.

I needed a new PS3 to replace my old 60GB launch model which finally gave out after The Last of Us.

All things considered, this package gave me the most for my money.

It came with a 250GB Super Slim PS3, a boxed copy of Uncharted 3, and the voucher for 1-Year of Playstation Plus.

As someone who'd been living off the original launch model all these years, I was both surprised and pleased at how light this one was. The upgrade to 250GB feels incredibly roomy after being squeezed for space on my 60GB model. I've already played Uncharted 3 but I didn't own it, and it's a lot of fun so it's a really good title to include for new owners. Finally, the year of Playstation Plus is really nice because honestly, the free games and discounts themselves already make it a much better service than Xbox Live (and I say this as someone who owns and regularly uses a 360).

If I had to list a couple things that might be considered cons, the first would be that the new top loader for the PS3 game discs is noticeably louder than my previous PS3. However, the PS3 itself runs incredibly quiet and you're not likely to hear anything at all when actually playing a game with the volume up (also, it's basically mute in comparison to my 60GB model, which sounded like a freight train when the fan kicked in). Another "complaint" would be that in this day and age, Sony should really just include an HDMI cable. They aren't nearly as expensive as they were back when I bought my launch model, and they're pretty much mandatory if you want to play games in a resolution at 720p or higher. The last thing isn't REALLY an issue with the PS3 itself, it's just that I'm going to miss the backwards compatibility with PS2 games.

All in all, I've been quite pleased with my new PS3. The lack of backwards compatibility in the new PS4 was one of the main reasons I decided to buy a new one this late in the game. I hope it lasts me long into the future, even after I inevitably buy a PS4. If anyone else is in need of a PS3 at this point in time, this package has got enough to warrant a purchase.

Thanks to Disney Sing It I am once again the favorite aunt! Seriously, I don't know what the complaint about this game is. The song list for my neices, ages 5 and 4 are perfect. They knew all of the songs and loved singing all of them for the crowd at their party. My oldest neice had the time of her life singing these songs and she was more than happy to let her little sister in on the fun as well. Not every song is a song that we as older Disney fans love, but the younger kids watch the Disney station alot and hear these songs over and over again and really, who is this game for? The kids loved it, well made and well done!

To those who enjoy Disney movies, this is a must own. Singing the songs here will bring you great nostalgia. Its fun for any age(there is EXPERT mode for grownups). I wont say much more cuz most other reviewers here said it already. And like them, my problem is the song selection. Beauty and the Beast got one of the best song catalog, yet only one is used.

Hoping for an announcement/release of Disney Sing-It: Family Hits 2 soon! Or else... Nerdrage!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy Disney Sing It: Family Hits Bundle Now

The song selection is a really bad! They put song from Lilo & Stitch 2!? C'mon, what is that?!

There are NO songs from Pocahontas!? Not even one!?

There is only one song from the Little Mermaid (Under the sea) and one from Beauty and the Beast (Be our guest). Where are "Part of your world", "Beauty and the Beast", "Whistle while you work" and "Something There"?! Instead, they included songs from Toy Story, Cars and stuff?! I don't see this game is called Pixar: Family Hits... shame, shame... and also, there's even 4 songs from Cinderella, and they're all pretty boring, let's be honest... :)

The big party breaker was also the fact that the songs are exact songs as ripped from movies, so over half of "Can you feel the love tonight" and "I just can't wait to be king" is Pumbaa, Timon, Simba and Zazu talking?!

The game is incredibly easy, which is understandable as it's probably aimed at little kids; but still, it's funny how Anika Noni Rose is always saying you sang something awesomely, even when your score is really bad?! :)

I just hope they'll add more songs, somehow...

Im a long time metal listener, and I have a wide range of metal tastes, but it seems like someone who doesn't know much about metal put this together. Theres a few bands on here that aren't even considered metal bands(Queens of the Stone Age, I Mother Earth, Hawkwind) and they managed to leave out a few major genres of metal, like Black Metal. For those that dont know Black Metal and Death Metal were pretty much the predominant metal genres of the 90's. So apparently it made sense to them to include some non-metal bands at the expense of including ANY black metal at all. Lame.

So lets go through some fundamental metal genres and see if any of the widely recognized major acts were included:

The "big 4" of Thrash Metal:

Anthrax? Nope

Megadeth? Nope

Metallica? Nope

Slayer? Nope

Major Death Metal Bands:

Morbid Angel? Nope

Death? Nope

Cannibal Corpse? Nope

Obituary? Nope

Major Melodic Death Metal Bands:

At the Gates? Hey! theres one!

Dark Tranquility? Nope

In Flames? Nope

Children of Bodom? Ok! thats two! But why this song?

Major Black Metal Bands:

Emperor? Nope

Mayhem? Nope

Burzum? Nope

Immortal? Nope

Major Original Heavy Metal Bands:

Black Sabbath? Nope

Judas Priest? Hey! thats 3!

Iron Maiden? Nope

Motorhead? Ok! thats 4!

Major 80's Glam Metal Bands:

Motley Crue? Nope

Ratt? Nope

Skid Row? Nope

Europe? Nope

Major Power Metal Bands:

Iced Earth? Nope

Blind Guardian? Nope

Stratovarius? Nope

Helloween? Nope

Major Progressive Metal Bands:

Dream Theater? Nope

Opeth? Nope

Symphony X? Nope

Nevermore? Nope

Major Doom Metal Bands:

My Dying Bride? Nope

Katatonia? Nope

Paradise Lost? Nope

Anathema? Nope

I could go on and on with other metal genres but you get the point. I understand that they cant include everything on this disk, but what is shocking is what they chose to put in INSTEAD of what I listed above. Some big genres aren't even represented on the disk. With such a wide selection of metal to choose from in this world they only decided to include a few, threw in some stuff that wasn't even metal in order to fill up a disk, and ignored a whole bunch of metal. This gets 2 stars because they at least got a few right, but for the most part this disk is way off. Metal is my favorite music genre and I dont even want this track pack! That says something!

Godsmack--I Stand Alone

RATM--Bulls on Parade

BFMV--Waking the Demon

Lacuna Coil--Closer

Nazareth--Hair of the Dog

For the record, I typically just drum (Pro Hard/Expert) or play Blitz so thats how Im reviewing them.

I am several hours into the game and I am enjoying it as much as the others. There are a couple of gameplay improvements I wanted to mention because they will be of interest to people who have played the prior titles:

How time/quests are handled:

Like Totori there is one main quest goal you need to meet by a mid-point in the game or the game ends. Esentially you gain population points by achieving main "development" quests and you must reach a certain population count by a certain number of years.

Side quests now have no due dates. You can just accomplish them at your leisure for money. Often they tie into development quests so it all flows more naturally. Due to how they handled quests and time in this game you also feel that there is a better combat/synth/gather balance.

-Town development

Completing main quests allow you to build your town up. This has a multitude of in game effects, population increases etc. Areas that were once just fields will suddenly have people and houses. It makes the game world feel more alive.

You have resources right outside your front door.

There is a well and tree outside your workshop that allow you to gather a couple of common ingredience easily. This was kind of nice.

I'll update when I finish the game, but overall I am satisfied with the changes they made.

This was a fantastic game. The style of the game is stealth, though if you are on easy difficulty you could just kill whoever the heck you wanted. The online is good you pretty much chose a setting from the game and play through it to create the rules for a high score. you can mark up to 3 targets. In each level (Beat it in two days) there are TONS of ways to do things. There is hidden weapons among the world, hidden outfits, DLC, and random objects you can draw peoples attention by sabotaging things. Its just a massive environment were you can do a lot of different things. At the end of each map it gives you and overall score from collecting items, who you killed, what objectives you fulfilled, etc. If your looking for a game where you kill everyone you can do that but you will more than likely get a negative score on that level. The less causalities (besides your target the better) bought this game when it came out and no regrets.

Like many people, I wanted this game to be like Team Fortress 2 but to the next level. Unfortunately, you cannot have as much fun in Brink like TF2. Obviously the game is new and not as many people own it but there should be more servers with different mods or methods of playing. For example, games like Uncharted 2, Black Ops, Killzone 3, Socom4, and others have many different ways to play. Brink has a number of mission types but it does get repetitive. As far as I know, I have not seen a Team Deathmatch type game even though you are technically in one due to the mission.

PROS

-Very good Graphics

-Cool Customizations

-Maps are large and lots to do

-The movements of the game

CONS

-Not enough weapons

-Some glitches

-Not Enough maps

A DLC will be coming out in early July (was supposed to be June) that will include 2 new maps (only)and some new content. The DLC is free for people the first 2 weeks it (the DLC) becomes available.

This game is not horrible, but it is not great. It was hyped up no doubt and should have way more content. The content in this game is about 10% of what it should be. Solutions

1. Adding at least 5 more maps

2. Adding new weapons somewhat similar to Team Fortress 2 but more modern looking. We all know the huntsman of TF2 for the sniper. Brink should have Crossbows, flamethrowers, harpoon guns, whips, chinese stars, swords, and many other items.

Cannons would be cool instead of the stupid mg nests. This game has a lot of potential but needs a serious upgrade for the weapons. Like many have pointed out the weapons are very similar even with some of the changes you make. The sniper rifles are pretty good but need more additions.

3. Needs more gamers playing on PC and others to create new servers with new mods

Just look at Team Fortress 2. They have new additions every so often with weapons and maps. Yes it has been out for a long time, but Brink runs the risk of not getting more sales and losing current gamers. This new DLC better be very good and they need to have another update about a month or two later because Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 will surely make Brink forgettable. I know they are not the same style, but people can only play so many games at once.

Team Fortress 2 is favored over Black Ops and many other newer games by many gamers. It does not have the greatest graphics but it makes that up by having a huge amount of maps and upgrades. Brink needs to follow this lead and bring more maps and weapons. Currently there are only 8 maps (2 more with DLC) and weapons are horrible before you customize them.

To people who hate this game, it may be that they really don't like it. I hated this game the first couple days I had it until I learned how to quickly upgrade the weapons. Common sense: You must go to Challenges and complete each one. When you go to the weapons selections it tells you what challenges you must complete to get the weapons. Once I upgraded my weapons I went from a one star rating to a 3 star rating.

Bottom line: This game is not as bad as people say. However there should be more interacting when playing as a team via typing or mic and more mods and other upgrades via Bethesda as I pointed out.

Thankfully I got this game for under $30 and play on PC. As for Xbox360 and PS3 I don't think you would be disappointed spending about $30 on this game. I think the price needs to drop to $30 or less for all platforms not just PC.This game would be excellent for $20 which could happens soon if the DLC is not good. People should rent the game or buy it used if you are unsure. Also keep in mind that the DLC update coming soon will be free for 2 weeks. So you need to get the game sometime during the 2 weeks that the DLC is available.

I went on very long and was a bit repetitive cuz I hope Bethesda improves this game. I also wish more people owned this game and played it like Team Fortress 2.

***** UPDATE***** 8/11/2011

I have been playing the game mainly on PC ( I also own the PS3 version but PC version is far better, especially the graphics) Nevertheless, it is still pretty fun on PS3.

So the DLC has two new maps and a few other items added for the classes. However, Splash(Bethesda) has failed to incorporate different modes in the game such as team deathmatch, capture the flag, or other modes of play. This game will probably be next to free very soon especially since the big hits (B3 and MW3) are coming out pretty soon. Nevertheless, I would still recommend this game for PC due to the better graphics and the long and fun matches between teams on a full server. When the servers are filled with human players (not bots) the game is very fun even on PS3. The matches last a lot longer and you can see what the developers wanted this game to be like. However they failed on a number of things. I will list the following recommendations that can make this game a huge hit like TF2.

1.****************** NEEDS MORE MODES OF PLAY.*******************************

2. Addition of different items every so often such as TF2 that can be purchased and some would be free.

3. Game should be made free or for $10 maximum to attract lots of gamers.

4. More maps and weapons as stated

5 A Reason to play. ( TF2 has people playing since its fun and free. But more importantly, there is something to play for. People have new items being acquired and people can dominate others in the game) Brink needs this type of stuff to make the game REWARDING if you know what I mean.

Like I said, if this is implemented this game will be one of the biggest hits on steam and the company will make lots of money selling items and just giving the game for free and building a very strong and active Brink community.

I have completed this game now on my main class engineer as well as taking another to 15 as medic, and after figuring out the point distribution I have high hopes for this game once it is online for my platform (ps3).The point system lets you max out only one character class, but does not totally punish you for changing jobs on the fly if needed. Not to reiterate the previous reviews I want to touch on what they did not.

I play Call of duty, Killzone 3 and many FPS since the early 90's. Many of my favorite FPS are what I would refer to as frag tag. Fast kills in an almost arena like atmosphere. This game is not of that model.

This is a splash damage game as they have always produced, taking a Wolfenstien / quake: Enemy territory approach to a comic like post apocalyptic universe.

I have scored it high because what it does it does well. I feel the low reviews are based on expectation. Expectation that does it no justice as it is being compared to games that are FPS but not of the same style.

The choke points that people complain about can be flanked or massed against. They are meant to cause a strategic showdown between two opposing teams and they deliver.

I am not a "fanboy" of this title, but I am a bit disappointed with the low reviews. To me many of them mirror a fictitious popular mechanics article trashing a car because it did not do well when they tried to take it out on the lake. Most of the anger is frag taggers beckoning to know why it took more than 2 shots to drop a foe, frustration due to overcoming a obstacle they expected to glide through. I understand, it's not the fast smash and grab/ Run and gun they are used to. It is like the difference in action RPG, and a Menu based RPG.

Here is the honest ending statement if you like a challenging first person shooter blending a similar play style to Unreal tournament/ Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Then you will enjoy this game. People wanting a bad company 3/ COD 5 should wait for those titles. This is not meant to be offensive to fans of these type games I am as well but hopefully this will make people more aware of what type of title this is. Some people would love a game of this style and have been dissuaded due to "It's not COD!" type reviews. My opinion is thats all the more reason to love it, it adds to my library without adding to an army of clones.

What do you get when you try to cross MAG or Team Fortress 2 gameplay with the look and feel of Borderlands and a futuristic Mad Max? Bethesda Softworks (Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) and Splash Damage (Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars) hope its the next big franchise to hit consoles. The impressive art direction in the advertising campaign originally drew me to this game, but does it translate to tengaging gameplay? Now that it has dropped in price almost universally, is it something you should pick up now? Is it even worthy of it's all CAPS moniker?

The premise in BRINK is not anything we really haven't seen before, but it centers around a man-made, eco-friendly, floating city, designated The Ark, that is on the brink (get it) of Civil War. Since the oceans of the world have begun to rise to unsafe levels, The Ark has become a sort of haven for people affiliated with its original inhabitants, as well as other displaced people looking for a better life, who have to live on the outskirts. It's basically a bunch of Haves versus Have Nots. One group wants to break free of the overpopulation and desecrating conditions for the outcasts on The Ark (called The Resistance) and leave the floating city to see what the world is like beyond its walls, while the other group wants to keep the refugees in control and living in continued squalor, while they continue to benefit in The Ark (called The Security).

Upon starting the game, you have to first select and customize a character. While the customization options are ample, they aren't exactly endless. The character design is similar to Gears of War, with overexaggerated features and bulging muscles. There are four different classes of characters: Soldier, Engineer, Medic, and Operative. Obviously each has their own strengths and weaknesses and in this game you will be switching classes a lot during each level or mission, to complete objectives.

To move around, BRINK also uses whats been classified as SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain). In this, a button can be assigned to to quickly traverse across different environmental obstacles. Think of it as parkour influenced climbing, jumping, and sliding, reminiscent of Mirror's Edge. Unfortunately, much of the time, I kind of forgot about SMART and did the regular old climbing and jumping, except for the occasional slide.

I've spent quite a bit of time with this game, beating both campaigns (a total of 16 missions, but they are long missions, which turns out to be a blessing and a curse), and utilizing both solo play, as well as completing levels online with human counterparts. I get that the online component was designed to be a major selling point for BRINK, but the online community is pretty stagnant at the moment. When starting a level online, I would say that only about 25% of the time did I have another human joining me.

Gameplay

This game is quite frenetic when you first jump in. There is a lot of action going on around you and quite a bit of chatter from your teammates (which I liked initially, but then grew to hate). Initially, only one or two classes will have an objective that are pretty basic (hack this, defend this, escort this person, etc.), but the objectives increase (both primary and secondary), as you progress through the game. Just find a (or take over an opponent controlled one) command post, and you can switch classes. There is an objective wheel that is easily accessed at any time, that highlights the objectives and classes needed, so it's not too confusing. Select an objective and it'll point you in the right direction to complete it.

That's not to say that BRINK isn't fun because at times it really is. Shooting people and is almost always fun... for a while. Having the missions broken up by each side seemed like a really interesting idea, but they basically turn out to be the same levels, but just opposite objectives of each other. If the Resistance was trying to destroy something, when you play the mission as the Security, you're trying to defend the same thing you were previously asked to destroy. This doesn't flesh out the story as much as I would have hoped for, and really didn't make me pick a side I was rooting for, as if they had added totally different levels for each side.

There is a major problem with your teammates AI in the game. They are basically worthless (but every now and then surprise you with a well-placed turret), and you constantly feel like you are the only one that is able to do anything. For instance if you have to repair something and are playing solo, without human teammates, it seems like you are the only one of the class you selected that can get anything done. You have usually around 10 minutes to complete the objective, but it usually takes all 10 minutes because your teammates don't help at all. When they do decide to help, it's like a mad rush in the final minute or two. The opponents know where to congregate to protect what's needed, but it seems as if your team gets bored rather easily and leaves their mark.

Which leads me to my next problem with the game. If you die, or I should say when you die, because your opponent's ammo tends to be much more powerful than your own, you have to respawn

There are a few "what if" missions tacked on at the end, but they seem as more of an afterthought, than a critical part of the story, and are some of the shorter missions of the whole game. I recommend playing through some of the Challenge levels early on, as by completing them, you earn some upgrades for your weapons. There are 3 different types of challenges: fulfilling objectives, moving around with SMART to certain areas in a time limit, and defending, each with three levels of progressively harder levels.

Graphics

There are two distinct setting for the missions in BRINK. One is the futuristic Ark, which kind of reminded me of something out of Mass Effect. Lot's of plexiglass, neon, etc. Once the action moved away from The Ark, to Container City, I became re-interested in the game again. It's a totally different kind of look that really made me push through to finish my first half of the Campaign. There are lots of little crevices and creative shortcuts to find.

I didn't really experience any lag, when playing online, but only really connected with one other person at a time when playing the campaign. The multiplayer was solid and much more fun than playing with bots, but by the time I tried multiplayer, I was kind of burned out by the game. Sometimes when enemies died, parts of their body would be underground, or if they were standing on something and killed, seemed to be floating in mid-air.

Sound

Throughout the game you have a Commander basically talking in your ear the whole time. He gets very frustrated when things aren't going the planned way. Considering that you feel like you are a one man show on many of the levels, it get very annoying quickly.

I did find the chatter between teammates amusing. When you give supplies to another teammate, they always respond with some form of thanks. Additionally, when you have some supplies and they are needed by someone nearby, they will let you know.

Replay Value

There is a planned DLC coming soon (free for the first two weeks), which may increase the number of people playing online. Currently, there are 8 maps available for multiplayer skirmishes. I fear, however, that most players originally interested in the game have either moved on to something else or sold/traded in their copy.

Once the campaigns are completed, there is not much incentive to return to those missions. Especially the ones where your teammates seem clueless. There are some audio logs to collect, which supposedly add more to the story (or unlock a trophy/achievement when all are collected) but I didn't have an interest to find more.

There is a cap at level 20. When I finished both campaigns, I was at level 16, so I played multiplayer and replayed missions to reach the cap. There are bonuses for completing missions online (which I didn't know until about halfway through the game)

Honestly, I really wanted to like BRINK. Blending solo, co-op, and multiplayer into one somewhat seamless experience seemed innovative and intriguing. However, in the end, it wasn't done well enough to grab my interest for extended periods. Each mission is quite long, and if you don't succeed, feels arduous instead of energizing at the challenge, that you have to relive 15-20 minutes all over again.

another new IP, another disappointment [read: homefront].

first of all, if you plan on getting this for the single-player campaign, don't. there is no single player campaign.

brink's 'campaign' is simply offline multiplayer with bots [think about Killzone's 'skirmish' mode and you get the idea]. there are eight 'missions' in all and each mission can played from either the resistance or security persepctive.

unfortunately, these missions are convoluted, difficult to navigate, and even more difficut to complete because your wonky AI squad mates are essentially useless. most of the maps contain narrow corridors that result in chokepoints with 16 guys in a fifteen foot radius all doing the hokey pokey or break dancing. i was half expecting pop 'n taco to show up with a broken down cardboard box and do the electric bugaloo. and if you should die, well, you may have to wait as long as twenty seconds to respawn and then spend another 30 seconds running back to the action. in and of itself, it's not a bad thing, but since all the 'campaign' missions are timed, it's problematic.

another big complaint: weapon damage. sure, i can understand wanting to eliminate one-shot kills, but it literally takes an entire magazine to put someone down. so most of the time you're trying to find ammo or hoping one of your squad mates buffs you some. good luck with that.

sure, you have four quadrillion customization options, but if you're playing from a first-person perspective, who even cares? you can't see all your fancy face paint, head gear, and outfits [unless you're in the menus], so why bother?

instead of a great new shooter, you've got a great new $60 digital costume closet. congratulations.

if splash damage had spent as much time with the gameplay as they did with the customizations, they might have had something. unfortunately, as is the case with so many shooters these days, the game ships with skimpy content and we undoubtedly await the first $15 "map pack" in about a week or two.

it's getting downright insulting.

Want Brink Discount?

I avoided Brink at first due to poor reviews, but as the price got a lot cheaper, I decided to give it a try. Since I've only started playing it, and am nowhere near an expert on it I'm just going to comment on what I've experienced with the game. As a first person shooter, I didn't find it very satisfying. First of all, I'm amazed at how difficult it is to actually kill the enemy. Even at point blank range, it takes what seems as too many bullets to take someone down. Then, your downed enemy often isn't dead, but will rise right back up to kill you if you don't go and finish him off. Meanwhile, the action, which is pretty much non-stop, sometimes makes it difficult to even do this. Also, the actual aiming and shooting process just isn't as much fun as many other 1st person shooters that I have played. I want to like this and have played the first few missions on it, but I just can't see myself sticking with it. However, If you like non-stop, fast paced action, it certainly does deliver on that. It's frenetic pace does sometimes lead to confusion as what to do next, or exactly what is going on at the moment. I was hoping for a little more stealth and discovery, rather than the constant run and gun action. I could deal with the run and gun action if the actual shooting was a little more rewarding. I'm just glad I didn't pay $60 for it when it came out.

I picked up my pre-order at GameStop this morning alongside my four disk soundtrack. I can't review this game without mentioning kof xii, I did not hate the twelfth installment in the franchise but if you played it, then you'll know what I mean when I say it felt like an expensive demo. King of Fighters XIII knocks out its' predecessor in everyway!

Content (5/5)

This game has so much more content than the previous one. Several game modes to choose from: Tutorial, arcade, story, versus, practice, network, replay, gallery, mission, and customize. Most of these features were missing from the previous installment, including arcade mode which is a strange exclusion from a fighting game. This also has more than fifteen stages, which was a much needed improvement. The four disk soundtrack with music from kof 94'kof xiii was just the cherry on top.

Story (4/5)

In my opinion this is the least important part of a fighting game. From what I gather this takes place after kof xi.

Graphics (5/5)

Starting with the epic opening scene and displayed in up to 1080p it looks simply beautiful! Over 30 hand drawn characters, all of them look very unique and are very detailed, with only slight pixilation in some of the sprites motions. I'm not sure if the backgrounds are hand drawn but they look amazing, off the top of my head... I couldn't stop staring at the stage with all the elephants in the background must see to appreciate.

Sound Effects and BGM (5/5)

High quality original music, can't say much here kof has never disappointed in this department. You can choose from two setting in the music section, from what I gather one is kof xiii music and the other is randomized music from various kof games.

Game play (5/5)

The game play is solid as always, this is the strength of the kof series. I'm going to focus on "Arcade mode" which is the one I spent most my time on so far. My opponents never felt overly cheap, the A.I. was challenging but satisfying to compete against. Difficulty is well balanced on all five settings.

Controls (5/5)

I had no problem pulling off some special moves and short combos without looking at a move list. Overall most of the moves are instantly familiar if you played kof in the past or even fighting games in general. If you have a choice I do recommend the use of a decent arcade stick for extended play sessions.

Replay value (5/5)

The extensive game modes will keep you busy for a while. I can't stop customizing characters; it's a fun little feature. You can customize every character up to five separate times, not to mention the custom colors that are already pre-made. The online experience will ultimately extend the life of the game. I spent about 2 hours getting by behind handed to me over the network, the connection with other players was a lot better than I expected, I only had two or three sluggish connections in a 2 hour period. The improvements of this feature are like night and day over kof xii.

Minor Imperfections:

Three small things I do want to mention: Vibration on the duel shock 3 is poorly utilized so far, it would have been nice if this feature was better supported during game play. Also there is beautiful animation and cut scenes during the arcade mode which lack voice acting. The other small complaint I have is the omission of "Dynamic" zoom in and out of camera perspective, its still there but not during actual game play. This makes some of the sprites seem thin. All of these are just small things I noticed, not a big deal.

General View (5/5)

I know I'm going to spend endless hours playing online and trying to achieve gold and platinum trophies. I'm glad SNK did proper justice to this installment, the arcade port out does the previous one in every way. My pre-order choice was very wise and I encourage others to pick up this game, it is worth every penny to own even without the soundtrack, it's a great alternative to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and it's an awesome game for your library. King of Fighters is back baby!!!

I'm a long time KoF fan, and after I played this in the arcade and felt how much better than KOF XII this was, I just had to preorder it, and after 6 hours of playtime today, I'm totally hooked. This game REALLY did keep its promise by going back to the CORE of KoF, and bring back the classic gameplay that KoF fans like me fell in love with to begin with. The game includes a tutorial to teach you the basics and how-to of the game, so you won't be scratching your head on how to do all the super-cool, extremely damaging combos or moves.

1)GAMEPLAY

There isn't much to say here, because gameplay for me is flawless. This is definitely the selling factor for KoF games (except for XII) for me, I've really liked the different feel these games had to their much more popular rival, Street Fighter. KOF XIII definitely delivered, with silky smooth controls with no tackiness to them whatsoever. I really like the new EX-moves, Cancel system, and the new deadly NeoMax Desperation moves. The flow of the gameplay is quick and swift, no sluggishness anywhere at all. **5/5**

2)GAME MODES

For the game modes, you have the typical Arcade Mode, which plays you through the game exactly as if you came into the arcade and hit up the machine for a round of play. No story is involved other than your participation in the King of Fighters tournament, and you can make any team you want, consisting of 3 members of not the same "Team" Very good if you're looking just to get straight to the action, no questions. Its not many rounds, and I wish it'd be a little longer, however being 3 vs 3, the battles can be quite long, so there's nothing to complain about there. Next you have Story Mode. In this mode, you select a team that has a set (not changeable) 3 members, and you play through the story of who is hosting the new KoF tournament, and what is the evil that is unfolding behind the scenes as usual. The story is significantly longer than the Arcade, especially if you choose to watch the cutscenes, which honestly I just had to, because I adored the art style implemented in them. The boss suffers somewhat from the usual "SNK Boss Syndrome", but don't worry, it's not even near being another Goenitz ('96) or Igniz ('01) ;) Then you've got the Online mode. While I never play online, I decided to do about 10 games online for the sake of the review, and the gameplay remains unaffected for me (my PS3 is connected via Ethernet, mind you.) I felt no lag at all, it was as if the person playing against me was right next to me with their controller. You've also got a practice mode as well as a Versus Overall, I'm happy with it **4.5/5**

3)GRAPHICS

Gorgeous, that's the word I'd use to describe it. I truly appreciate the fact that the game has been completely hand drawn, and it shows. The sprites of the characters are very pretty, as well as their animations for their special moves and their supers. The backgrounds are beautiful, some even more impressive than others. I was getting mauled sometimes in the game because I had been staring and distracted by the attractive backgrounds. Being hand drawn, don't expect it to be computerized-perfect, because that is, in essence, the beauty of hand drawing. Overall **5/5**

4)SOUNDTRACK

Here KOF has never, ever failed to deliver. Each and every game has a fantastic soundtrack accompanying it, and KOF XIII does not disappoint a single bit. The music for each stage fits perfectly to what you're seeing, or (in the story especially) what is going on in the particular battle you're about to undertake. Sounds for the characters is excellent. I like how there are several different "tone" of voices for the same move for almost every, if not every character. I can't tell you how much it annoys and irritates me to hear the same sound bit over and over again, so by doing this it doesn't let it get as irritating, in my opinion. For those of you (like me) that preordered, you get "The King of Soundtracks" pack, with 4CDs, spanning across ALL KOF games. ('94, '95, '96, '97, '98, '99, '00, '01, '02, '03, XI, XII, and XIII) Except for XIII, you are not given the ENTIRE soundtrack or the arranged soundtrack, but rather the most notable tracks from each game. (Boss themes, particular stages) Can't really complain, and the packet it comes in is very nice. Overall **5/5**

5)CHARACTER ROSTER

KOF XIII has a roster of 30 characters, which you may find using google. The characters ALL have several different preset costumes to choose from, as well as the ability to customize and create your own color set. NOT that big of a deal for me, but I think there are others that will find this very pleasing. I was very pleased with the return of Yuri Sakazaki (she's my favorite SNK character), Billy Kane, and Kula Diamond. Overall the roster is quite solid, and I believe that most KOF fans will find no disappointment. I do wish that Vanessa had been brought back, as well as good old Rugal Bernstein (understandable that he's gone, due to his multiple "deaths" in the series), but it really is not that big of a deal, I'm very satisfied with the roster, and overall I give it a **4/5**

CONCLUSION

The game has exceeded my expectations as a picky, die-hard KoF fan, and I have almost zero things to whine about, and those that I do are mostly opinion-based. I say that if you're looking for a great, fun fighting game to pick up, and you've never tried a KoF game before, BUY THIS, you will not be disappointed. I may update my review after I rack in more hours. Hope this review was helpful!

I just picked up my copy from Gamestop and I have to say this is what KOF 12 should have been and it's even better! The background is very beautifully presented and the characters look vivid and beautiful in a retro 2D presentation. In KOF 13 the story mode has been added back along with other modes such as endless and mission challenge, AND some popular characters that were RIDICULOUSLY missing in KOF 12 such as Mai. The characters are fully customizable from head to toe. Guys if you are a KOF fan or if you are into fighting genre in general this is the one to got for!

For the online play part it is definitely much better! If you ever played Super Street Fighter IV online you can expect the same level of smoothness, which is great because you probably wouldn't be able to notice the tiny lag that exists in the physics of Internet.

If you read the IGN review the reviewer complained about the bosses being cheap. That is just bull$h!# it's a fighting game and the boss has the same life meter as your characters do how do you expect the bosses being more challenging than regular opponents if they are not using full screen damaging supers?

Actually my little complain is that the main theme sounds really like cheesy rock music, but the team theme absolutely can make up for it.

[UPDATE]

So I have played about 10 online matches, there were definitely good and bad network conditions. More than half of the matches I could say they were completely lag free, for some others I could notice that there were very tiny noticeable lag between your input and your characters' moves, but I was still able to do all the combos I trained in practice mode. There was one match that was totally unplayable but I could confidently say that the reason is the other person has really crappy Internet connection (Good luck with any game!) I have the same experience with Super Street Fighter 4 and I guess it's a regional factor.

[UPDATE 2]

When you are playing online, you will encounter players with four different levels of network latency. LV.3 and LV.4 are recommended as you will not be able to notice any lags. LV.2 is playable, you will notice a tiny lag which will make you feel awkward and some combos you practiced for hours are harder to do. LV.1 needs to be avoided at all time. it will make you throw your controller away.

I have no personal opinion of this item. It was purchased as a gift to my grandson and he doesn't use a lot of words. Just says Rocks !!

Want The King of Fighters XIII Discount?

King of Fighters has always been one of, if not the, best 2-D fighters in production. Possessing lush backgrounds, brilliant character art design and catchy tunes the human senses are well pleased. As well, it maintains unique styles and moves for the vast array of characters while keeping them well balanced to one another; a very difficult task when there is so much differentiation. With this simple summary of the game's aspects, there is no need to provide further description on the brilliance of this fighter.

The only problem in a funny way is that it is not a problem at all, however it needs to be aware to many potential buyers. If you are new to or a casual player of 2-d fighter titles expect a rude awakening. Like games such as (Demon's Soul which is coincidentally another Atlus title) this is a very difficult title. If you take your time and practice for quite some time, you may be able to reach the upper echelon needed to your own online let alone get all the unlocks in the regular game modes.

In conclusion, this is a brilliant title with lightning fast entertainment but it is also one that is not for the faint of heart
