If you have never played a Tiger Woods game, you will enjoy 12. But if you have played other games in this series, you will be disappointed.

The addition of Augusta is worthy of a new release. However, EA has removed some of the more enjoyable features from previous versions of the game. For instance, why remove the camera flybys or change the thumbstick putting mechanism? EA could have left these features in as options at the very least.

The graphics are great, but they are no better than the previous installment. If you have played Tiger Woods 11, there is nothing to brag about here.

Using the Move controller is novel, but the accuracy is questionable at best. Unless you are playing "just for fun", you will be using the control pad.

The caddy feature is a nice addition, but it is unpolished. Shot advice from the caddy is either completely obvious or completely misguided. Leveling up your caddy's mastery of the different courses takes an eternity and provides no measurable benefit. If you are familiar with the controls, you will probably turn the caddy feature off after a couple rounds.

Putting in this game is more difficult than in real life. The controls are extremely fragile. You will soon build up a tolerance for missing 2-foot or 3-foot putts. There is nothing to practice or correct on your end it is a flip of the coin. You simply roll your eyes and move on to the next hole.

If playing at Augusta is your main concern, buy this game.

If not, get a copy of Tiger Woods 10 or 11 and save your money. You will still be dazzled by the graphics, and the gameplay will be as-good or superior.

So, EA Sports is back with yet another edition of their long running golf franchise. There are surely two things that fans have been asking for for years in the Tiger Woods franchise. First is to play as a virtual Phil Mickelson, and the second is to play at Augusta National.

Luckily, this year one of those dreams has been fulfilled. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 comes complete with the home of the Masters, and the entire game, from the introduction, to the menus, to the special features is decked out to display the beautiful course located in northern Georgia. From the second the game turns on, it sounds like a telecast of the Masters is starting.

Along with the new course, another new feature is called Masters Moments, where you re-live some of the greatest memories from Masters lore, from Tiger Woods' miracle chip-in in 2005 to Gene Sarazen's double eagle in 1935. If you can perfectly replicate all of these moments, you'll receive an automatic bid to the Masters tournament once you reach the PGA tour in career mode.

Speaking of Career mode, it has been fleshed out and expanded wonderfully. This year's edition now includes an Amateur Tour, the Nationwide Tour, Q-School, and finally, the PGA tour. This adds a wonderful layer of depth to the game, and it really makes it feel like you're working your way up from the bottom, as opposed to just starting and winning on the PGA tour right out of the gate. In addition to the events, there are also challenge and sponsor events each week. Challenge events consist of matching you against a PGA/LPGA Tour player in one of the game's various modes, such as Match Play, Skins, or Battle Golf. If you win, you earn an enormous amount of XP. Sponsor events have you play a few holes in order to accomplish certain goals, such as minimizing your amount of putts or hitting all the greens in regulation. Doing so will unlock certain items or gear from that sponsor that you can use without having to pay for them.

Your coach from the last two years, Hank Haney, is no longer present in this version, but he is replaced by a very helpful, nameless caddie who will provide you with some advice and at least two options for each shot before you take it. You can choose to take his advice, or you can create a custom shot of your own. If you liked things better the old way, the caddie option can be turned off entirely. For the most part, the advice and shot placements you get from the caddie are rather good, but at times he can lead you astray if you automatically choose his first choice each time. Luckily, your caddie levels up as well as you gain your own XP, so his choices gradually become more reliable and his putt reads improve significantly as your career progresses.

The PS3 version of the game can be played using the Playstation Move controller, and for the most part, the actual mechanics of the golf swing are duplicated beautifully. Slight turns and twists of the motion controller can impart a slight draw or fade on the ball, whereas a strong derivation from the swing plane can result in a very errant shot. Putting in particular can take quite a while to get accustomed to, especially when the tension starts to rise and your putt meter disappears very quickly. There are times when the Move controls don't work as well as they could. For one, there must always be a wireless controller on and functioning. The Navigation controller seems to serve no purpose at all, and the wireless controller only needs to be used for switching clubs if you want to create a custom shot. Unfortunately, you aren't able to slightly alter your caddie's suggestions, either. Instead of simply moving your caddie's suggestion a few feet to the left, you have to create your own custom shot from scratch. The controls for adjusting your shot or lining up your putt can be finicky at first, but after a few rounds they become very intuitive. Though the Move controller can also be used to navigate menus, it is pretty much a disaster, as many of the menu options scroll right/left as well as up/down. It can be gotten used to, but the controls are very sensitive and you're better off using the standard controller to navigate the menus.

Using the Move controls adds a new layer of depth, and it no longer makes the game too easy. It can be a challenge to craft a consistent swing to pull off good shots, and you'll struggle to keep your rounds below par. Once you get the hang of it, however, it's a great feeling of accomplishment when you nail that approach shot within 3 feet or sink that tournament winning putt on the 18th green. To make the game a little easier, the focus system introduced last year remains in effect, allowing you to power boost, improve your accuracy, or use putt preview.

There are other facets of the game that just aren't up to what they could be. Though the commentary team is improved greatly with the addition of Jim Nantz, it is still too bland, and the entire experience feels watered as you're coming down the stretch on a crucial Sunday round. The sense of urgency isn't there, and though the controller shakes a little more and your shot assist meters start vanishing as things tighten up, you end up feeling somewhat diluted when the crowd, celebrations, and commentators all feel uninteresting. Also, for some reason EA chose not to include the Ryder cup again this year, substituting it for the President's Cup. Since the events alternate every two years in real life, it seems that EA may attempt to do the same thing, so perhaps we'll see the Ryder Cup appear again in next year's version.

Despite some disappointing presentation and omission of features from last year's game, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2012 is still the definitive golf simulation on the major consoles. This year, the addition of Augusta National, a new, expanded career mode, and highly improved motion controls are certainly enough to warrant a purchase if you own last year's edition.

Maybe next year the game will be titled: EA Sports PGA Tour 2013: Tiger vs. Phil.

First of all this review mostly addresses the move implementation in the PS3 version, particularly in comparison to TW2011.

After a frustrating experience with TW2011, specifically the poor move implementation (documented in my review of that title), I finally decided to get rid of the game and take one more chance on tiger woods 2012. I'm very glad I did.

First of all, I'll echo the general positives about the game that others have mentioned. The new approach to building xp by playing your way up through the amateur and then nationwide tour is MUCH more fun than the approach in 2011 where you screw around with "challenges." You get right into playing real golf against reasonable competition immediately. Also, the addition of Augusta is worth the purchase price alone, and IMHO the most beautiful golf course in the world is well represented in the game. Another update that I enjoy is the ability quit and save during the middle of a round so you can pick back up where you left off. The caddie is also a nice addition, especially when I introduce friends to the game. I find that friends on their first evening (with the move controls) can play competitively against me, with them using a pro golfer, using nearly all of the caddie shots with no adjustments, and me using my (low XP) profile doing custom shots where necessary and generally being better at the game. Only general negative I have is the cheesy intro that you cannot skip until you've created a profile. I made the mistake of not creating a profile the first time I played (wanted to go straight to augusta) and then had to repeat the whole thing the next time I put the disc in.

On to the move updates. The implementation is SIGNIFICANTLY improved over 2011. The move controller doesn't tend to loose calibration during play, and if it does there is an in game calibration option. The controls are simple enough that someone unfamiliar with the game, and even unfamiliar with the move controller, can play the game relatively smoothly after only a few holes (the caddie helps as mentioned earlier). The move controller seems a little less sensitive in the normal difficulty setting than in 2011, so you aren't shanking every other shot into the woods, although a smooth and somewhat hard swing is still required to put the ball in the fairway at 100% power. Putting remains very difficult, especially until you build your grean reading skill up, but is not overly frustrating. The best way to describe it is that the move works like I expected it to in 2011, which makes this a very fun game. It works on several levels playing through the career mode on my own, or playing a casual game with some friends while working through a 12 pack, which is EXACTLY what move games should be like.

HOWEVER, I still have two major gripes with the move implementation, which knocked a star off. First of all, there are very few instructions for using the move. Even the "software" manual that is available from within the game only gives instructions for the dual shock, not the move controller. Most of the more basic controls are showed on screen during the game, but there are certain controls that simply are impossible to figure out on your own. For example, to switch clubs during a custom shot, you have to hit the trigger and x or sqaure buttons at the same time. The only way I was able to find this out was to search through the forums on ea.com, eventually finding a "sticky" post to a non-ea website where someone had taken the time to write up instructions for the move. Not even on EA's website could I find any "official" documentation. This is absolutely inexcusable.

Second, you still need a dual shock, or perhaps a navigation controller, to navigate through the game. This seems to be the norm with PS3 Move games, but it sure would be nice if, a la wii, you could play a game without having to put down the motion controller and pick up the dual shock.

Summary vastly improved game from both a general content perspective and a motion control implementation perspective from TW2011. However, the success is slightly hampered by poor documentation of the move controller functionality.

What a scam job EA SPORTS has pulled in producing this game. The game itself seemed relatively cheap to buy. But, the caviat is that you also have to purchase golf courses individually. They have a wide assortment of 19 courses to purchase. They aren't cheap. $4 and up. You could spend well over $200 for this game. SUCKER?? Not me!

Let me start off by saying this game is loads of fun, the graphics are impressive and the sound quality is great running PCM. However, these are all things customers expect from modern day titles. Where games can really shine is through the user interface, online modes and simplicity. Unfortunately EA falls flat.

It is not possible to play online with another friend who has T Woods 12 Master...Yes, I said that correctly, you can try to add a friend who owns the same game to the queue but once started the game does not allow you to play with a specific person. I don't understand how product mgmt can release a title with a flaw as outrageous as this one but hey I don't work there. It's even simpler than that, small things like creating a character. When you create a custom character the game automatically puts a hat on the player... accessories aren't until the end of the setup and hair style is step 3... I don't know what EA's quality testing and usability studies look like but I think it's time they took another approach because these grievances have us all asking one question. When will another company surface and provide us sports titles that work so we no longer have to trade our hard earned cash for titles that aren't ready.

You can get the SAME EXACT PRODUCT besides the top panel art & different colored buttons/joystick lever if you buy the Tekken 6 fight stick package. Lowest I've seen it on here is around sixty-dollars shipped & you get a free game (Tekken 6)! Or you can get it on newegg DOT com for roughly the same price (just search for Tekken 6 stick). For another ~thirty dollars, you're much better off getting a quality joystick made by Hori (real arcade pro 3 series) or Madcatz (Tournament edition series) since they both use arcade parts (Sanwa/Seimitsu) as well as having a bigger top panel to lay your hands on in addition to being much heavier (5.5+ pounds). You can get the same quality (which isn't saying much) joystick for fifty-dollars if you don't mind it not being wireless by getting the Madcatz fightstick (easily replaceable for Sanwa/Seimitsu parts). This wireless joystick's horrible b/c there's way too much of a dead-zone (too much movement before it knows & triggers the direction you want to go) for the joystick lever & the buttons aren't very responsive (have to push down even more so when compared to Sanwa/Seimitsu parts to get the button to react finally). Now, if you've never used a quality joystick with Sanwa or Seimitsu arcade buttons/lever then this joystick's decent at best. This joystick's way too light (1100 grams = 2.43 pounds) regardless if you use it in your lap or on a table (it'll move around too much). It's only saving grace is that it's wireless (battery last a long time; up to 400 hours supposedly). Also, pretty lame to use a USB dongle (receiver connected to USB port on front of PS3) instead of bluetooth technology like Sony controllers although you can blame Sony for this. The only reason it's not getting a lower score is b/c it's the only wireless stick on the market that I know of.

I would like to start off by saying that I am, in no way, a professional reviewer for arcade sticks. This was the first one that I bought and I was iffy about it to begin with. That being said I must say that I am very satisfied with this product.

First off, shipping and delivery was excellent. No problems and nothing really else to say.

Onto the stick. It is extremely light and has a plastic build, though for some reason it does not feel cheap. Though I do not suggest dropping it, I suspect even if you were to it would still hold up very well.

I've had it for 4 days and the stick and buttons still work fine. I've never had a problem with buttons sticking. Something weird, however, is that sometimes the game will not register my stick movements. My character will freeze up. Though this has only happened like 3 times and is very short in duration. It might be a small wireless problem.

Overall, this stick is nice and well worth the price. I've had virtually no problems when playing my friends in SSFIV and Arcana Heart 3. The battery life is good (I suggest getting rechargable batteries) but you have to keep up with the wireless transmitter or else this stick is useless.

Well I'm back, and pissed. The stick malfunctioned in not even two weeks out of having it. I was not rough with it as all the buttons and stick directions still read, though that's not the problem. The problem lies in the wireless usb item. It's acting like a controller where it is read as holding the analog stick down. That is to say the system only reads down, down-foward, and down-back. I can only get it to read neutral position if I push the stick up. There is no forward, back, up, up-forward, or up-back. As I said before, the buttons still work but this is no way to play a fighting game.

I am greatly dissapointed as now I will have to look into getting another stick. The wireless dongle does not conncect to my computer so I cannot check the properties on there or the actual ps3 as that is no help as well. Maybe I'm the only unfortunate soul that had to deal with this but I now stand on the platform of just going out and getting a much better WIRED one to save yourself from the trouble.

I got this stick and used it for a couple of hours until I noticed the circle button was broken/defective. I ended up returning it and just splurging on a PS3 Street Fighter IV Round 2 Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition. I wasn't going to leave a review, but now since I used the PS3 Wireless Fighting Stick 3 and now own arguably the best arcade stick I can now give some insight.

Stick:

The stick itself isn't as tight as the TE2, but it is just as responsive. Since it was looser I was able to do half circles easier from the start. From what I remember the FS3 stick is a little taller.

Buttons:

The buttons are laid out slightly curved so that it more natural for your fingers, which is a little different then the TE2. The buttons once again are not as "tight", though responsive.

Other:

The big question is the wireless, it was just as responsive for me as the TE2 is plugged in, even at 15'. The base is smaller and lighter then the TE2. I read that this stick can be modded with sanwa stick and buttons which are the same parts used in the TE2 and Japanese arcades. You do need to used a soldering iron, though. This stick needs 2 AA batteries(thought I would mention that).

Summary:

Alright, so if you are a beginner, on a budget, or wanted to mod a good wireless stick I would recommend this stick. Please dont think since I got a defective one it should be rated lower. I really hate when people give 1 star because electronics arrive defective/dead it happens, get over it. I would have only given this stick 3 stars if it wasn't able to be modded and the price was higher. TE2 is $180 and the FS3 $60 + mod parts is around $50-60 is still cheaper then the TE2.

This Item Is Great! Its Good For Beginners and people who started. I Got Another One Because my friend got one and i got to say the stick is nice. The Buttons aren't so loud and it came in the mail in good condition. Bad thing is it will Take approximately 3 or 4 Days for it to sync up well. i think this fight stick has gotten way too many bad reviews. it is a great stick and the people who think it is terrible just don't know the proper way to use it. the buttons are very responsive and work perfectly, i would have liked it if hori would have put sanwa or seimitsu parts in it but they work just fine. the joystick is good but i would like it better if it wasn't so stiff. the joystick features a square gate rather than a octagonal gate like me and most people would prefer, however you can mod this by replacing it with a sanwa jlf octagonal gate for around 5 to 15 dollars. doing this mod though ,i believe, will recquire drilling new holes in the gate which is easy as long as you know what your doing. if you dislike the buttons you are sort of out of luck because they are saudered in place. most people say this fight stick lags a lot online which is true if you are over 6 feet away from the tv, as long as you move in around 5 feet away you should not experience any lag. over all this stick's wireless functionality works well as long as you are ok with moving closer to the tv if you plan on playing online. one thing that is misleading about the stick is that when you first get it, it disconnects a ton when you first start using it but after a few matches this clears up and works perfectly so don't worry. overall i give this stick a 8/10 and highly recommend buying it if you are purchasing your first fight stick but you should eventually move up to a hori real arcade pro or a madcatz se or te

This cable is as cheap as it's price. First time I tried to remove the cables from the port on my TV the red and yellow end popped off the cable. Now it is worthless. Spend a few more bucks and get a decent cable or better yet, connect via HDMI.

Gameplay 4/5

As any DW fan will notice, dw6 replaced the old combo system with the new Renbu system. You can essentially mash square and attack forever. They changed it a little from DW6, since now Renbu doesn;'t decrease overtime, and is dependant on weapon level. Also, the numerous Imbueings and Special Attacks you can stick onto a weapon add another level of depth entirely, and I perfer this to random drops any day. The combat styles range from narrow, low-body count motions to wide area base-clearing sweeps, allowing custom officers to be made as anything from a duelist to a master of one against many.

Graphics 3/5

I noticed right off that the quality of peons had decreased from DW6. The officer quality remains the same. I noticed later that this was to cram more characters into every level. For instance, I struggled to get 500KO in DW5E before any battle ended, but here I average 1200 or so.

Sound 3/5

I enjoy the empires feature to select your own BGM from almost any song from a previous DW game. However, the horrible Enlgish voices return yet again, making you wish for the Japanese voice option, or making you glad to set voice volume to 0.

Replayability 3/5

Replayability is the highest of any DW to date for me. Largely due to the initially frustrating fact that officer stats do NOT carry over from one play through to the next. Instead, you get clear points, which can be used to allow carry over of weapons, horses, and starting off with bonus gold or items. Once I played through twice, I found this enhances the raplayability for me. Also, there are numerous pieces of edit officer clothes to unlock by completing missions and playthroughs.

Overall 4/5

My favorite DW title to date. Best edit officer feature in my opinion. Love it!

All in all, I am pleased with the latest installment of DW:Empires. In fact, I enjoy playing it more than the original DW6. I would like to see some more innovation, but all in all, it's a fun title that should have had better bells and whistles.

The Good:

The combat system. I love the renbu system. I can't imagine why someone wouldn't like it. I still can pull off the combos from previous games, but now I can continually attack. What's not to like?

Some of the power attacks are positively hilarious as well. I really like Meng Huo pulling up trees and giant mushrooms(???) to attack his enemies with.I'm also happy that Liu Bei has finally become such a power house.

The music is awesome. Not only are you treated to the tracks from DW6, but you get a HUGE selection of tracks from the previous games. All of them have the chinese ancient wailing guitars you have become familiar with, and I love it. Moreover, you can choose to listen to any piece of music at any time. Great nostalgia, and fun grooves as well.

This game fixes many of the problems from previous "Empires" games. One of the biggest problems with the previous games was that it was too easy to form alliances. Strategies are now based solely on the officers you currently have, and if you lose the officer, you lose the strategy. More could (and should) have been done here, but overall, the game is more fun to play, with both an "officer" and a "ruler" mode.

The Bad:

Unfortunately, "Empires" fixes NONE of the problems from "DW6". The graphics are still lame, the map is way too small to explain some of the intricate passageways and whatnot, and Jiang Wei, Pang De, Zhu Rong, Da Qiao and Zuo Ci are still missing (among others, possibly). I hate KOEI's insistence of cutting things back in titles (look at the "evolution" of the RTK series). But the worst offender has to be the camera. It is just awful in this one, which is a shame, since the game itself moves at an incredible pace. It's a shame to lose sight of an enemy because the camera suddenly gives you a sky view, for whatever reason.

Moreover, while this rendition of "Empires" fixes some of the previous problems, it introduces a lot of new ones as well. Some strategies are grossly overpowered (Sun Quan can play a strategy which insures that he is never, ever attacked).

The uninspired:

The trophies are a joke. You can get all of them in a matter of hours. I don't care much trophies, but you should have to work for something.

The box didn't come in good condition but the game did, but I really don't care for that as long as the disc didn't come messed up. It has great graphics especially if you have an HD tv. I love making my own characters, I love games like this. I Been a DW fan for along time, waiting on DW7 empires! coming in feb 2013.

The skin fit like a glove. Looks great, although, it's a very smooth surface which feels very slick to the touch. After using it for a few hours the sweat from the hand along with the heat did create a better grip. At the same time I purchased this grip I also ordered from the same brand the red grips. For some reason the red grips actually have a grippy rubber feel. They are very nice and I actually use the red grips on both controllers and this black skin just sits in my drawer.

I probably wouldn't buy again due to lack of grip and feel.

I bought these because I was going to use my PS3 outside in my cabana that has a concrete floor. They protect the controllers and improve my grip on them at the same time.

I did not receive the item pictured. What I got was a flimsy, thin, poorly fitted skin without the ridges on the hand grips. The initial fit was at least tight, but after a couple of weeks, it stretched out. It is now in the trash because it wasn't worth the cost of shipping to return it.

Understand when I give it two stars it only because i my feelings. The step is only a few inches high and even with the Wii fit step on top the height is not sufficiant. It seems to throw my step aerobics games on Wii Fit off a little. I'm not sure if it's me or the board. For the most part it makes you workout a little bit more, and I care about burning calories more than scoring points, so I was good with that.

This game is not to be confused with the PSN release of Wheel of Fortune. It's a sequel to the Wii game. They really should have titled this Wheel of Fortune 2. Some people may think it's just the Wii game in a shinier coat of paint. They would be wrong. There are apparently 2,000 brand new puzzles, some may be from the Wii game I am not sure. One of the cool things about the Wii game was you could go to different looking sets to play, such as Hawaii, New York, Washington D.C., etc. if you won them in the bonus round. On top of all of those, there are 5 new sets: The Great Outdooors (looks like a log cabin), Cruise Week (looks like a cruise ship), New Orleans, Halloween (some may find the slight wailing of ghosts and howling of werewolves scary, not sure), and Happy Holidays. Now you can also purchase these sets if you've won a certain amount of money, which is a great addition and speeds up the unlocking considerably.

The biggest addition to this game though is online play! In fact, you can even have another person locally play online with you on the same system, so you're guaranteed a 3 player match! You need 2 controllers to do this, no controller passing. I thought this was a great feature. The online runs fine, with slight button press lag. I did run into an odd glitch though were someone apparently picked a vowel and Pat Sajak said there were 2 of them. However they were not put on the board because in reality it was not true. Strange, but not game breaking. However my wife and I ran into a jerk who didn't even try to play the game and instead used his gestures to assure us he was there, but not playing. Thankfully, the game this time has a timer implemented into everything just for such an occasion.

The presentation is much better than the last game. Characters look a bit more realistic, but still cartoony. For the first time Jim Thornton lends his voice to the experience. Pat Sajak and Vanna White's dialogue are mostly recycled from the last game. Pat and Jim will make a remark about the set if you let the intro to a match play out. The animations are improved and some of the presentation looks as if you were watching the show. There is some screen tearing, but nothing too horrible. It mostly happens between rounds.

Some descriptions of this game would have you believe there is a new mini game compared to the Wii game. This is actually not true. Every mini game from the Wii game returns but this time playing them doesn't unlock anything. You can purchase these items with money you've won after a full game if you choose. You can also purchase set props, videos (these seem to just be cartoony Wheel of Fortune openings), etc. I think this is a much better way to unlock things as it's much faster.

Since there are no avatars or Miis or the PS3, you have to use a contestant editor that's similar to the Nintendo DS version. Don't go expecting serious customization options, but they're good enough. Overall if you enjoy Wheel of Fortune at all I highly recommend this game to you. Especially if you enjoyed the Wii or DS game. Hope to see some of you online! Feel free to ask me anything in the comments and I'll answer.

EDIT: Since playing the game further I have run into a couple more glitches. One is the game at times freezes up while trying to find an online connection with someone else. The other is the very beginning of the intro to each game is a black screen but then gameplay resumes.

I've been as loyal of a Madden fan as any. I've purchased the game every year since the early 90's on Sega Genesis. And I've always enjoyed playing the games themselves, but it was the introduction of the franchise mode (1998?) that got me truly hooked. Every year, as more and more features were added to the franchise mode, I found the game to be more and more addicting. Nothing could add to the games replay value more than a detailed franchise mode where I felt like a real GM, developing my team and molding them into a perennial contender by taking over every detail of the organization and calling all the shots.

I believe Madden hit its peak during the final year on the PS2/XBOX console when every detail of your franchise could be controlled, right down to the price of refreshments in your team's stadium. Admittedly, the game has been a bit of a disappointment since its transition to the latest generation of consoles (PS3 & XBOX 360). The franchise mode was essentially stripped down to the very basics...just a shell of its old form. I understood, at least for a year or two, that the game would have to make a few sacrifices in order to get the game fully functional for the new consoles. The graphics had vastly improved, and I felt I could deal with a lighter version of the franchise mode if it meant playing such a good looking football game. But EA has done very little to bring its franchise mode anywhere close to its old form. There was a glimmer of hope for us franchise enthusiasts in Madden '12 when the game made a number of improvements, publicly acknowledging that Madden had put its franchise loyalists on hold for too long, and the feature was in some great need of improvement. Then Madden '13 was released...

Madden 13 is a slap in the face to any fan of the franchise mode that has stayed true despite the repeated disappointments over the past 5 years. The franchise mode has been completely removed from the game. EA will tell you that the "Connected Careers" (CCM) mode serves as the game's franchise mode now. I beg to differ. The CCM is a sad, sad attempt to contemplate those of us who enjoy the franchise aspect of the game. Anyone with a little awareness can see that EA's attempt to make everything "XP" based is a move to eventually monetize every aspect of the game... (Example: your players no longer progress based on their performance throughout the season. They earn "XP" for reaching certain goals which can be used to purchase upgrades to their attributes.) Everything is about earning "XP". You can't even scout future prospects unless, you guessed it, you've accumulated some precious "XP". This 'subtle' addition may be the scariest aspect of the latest edition of Madden.

To those of you who have been told that CCM replaces franchise mode in the game, here is just a short list of features that are completely gone:

Offline franchise mode multi-player (seriously?? I've played a league with my best friend every year since 2001.)

Fantasy draft (that's right, if you like drafting a team to control from scratch....forget about it.)

Option to upload NCAA 13 rosters for your drafts (the only reason I buy NCAA...)

Ability to edit player appearance/ratings

Ability to create a team/logo

Ability to move your team to another city

I won't even list all of the features that still exist but have had their functionality severely reduced. (Example: you can still trade and sign free agents but the trade logic has been tweaked such that unless you're trading a superstar for a draft pick or two, it's not going to happen. Free agents can be signed but the length and size of the contract can't be adjusted) This would end up being a review too long for anyone to read if I included all the reasons why the features that remain are lacking.

According to EA, the series has approximately 5-7 million dedicated fans, and they'll likely sell over 3 million copies of the game by October. Apparently they've decided that the franchise fans make up too small a minority to worry about. A calculated risk I assume. I'll be returning my copy though, and they can exclude me from their list of dedicated fans going forward.

Okay, so if you play this game by yourself online, and that's ALL you do, then you might not agree with this review...

...however, if you are like me, I primarily play offline franchise mode, so drastically changing this feature is a risky gamble for EA when it comes to gamers like myself. The only two words that I can use to describe 'franchise mode' this year is: EPIC FAIL. Madden 13 has something called connected careers, which serves as its only vehicle to play what past Madden's have called 'franchise mode'. This works well for online play, but if you are like me, I like to play franchise mode offline with a friend (you know, in the same room). We create our own guys, do a fantasy draft, and play as many seasons as we can until the next Madden comes out.

Not this year. EA has chosen to abandon this group of gamers. Most of the features for offline franchise play have been removed. Create a player, and have him play in your franchise? Nope. Fantasy draft? Gone. You are stuck playing with the current roster of whatever team you chose. ANY roster customization? Virtually all roster customization is gone. Again, you are stuck with the real-life team rosters. You can't even edit player attributes, names, or positions.

Finally, and this was the deal breaker for myself, and I will be returning the game I have bought every year for the last 10 years if there isn't an update issued. Multiplayer offline franchise. That HAS to be included, right? RIGHT? Unbelievably, no. I have no idea why they would take this out. It seems like a no-brainer, and quite frankly, I am a little pissed about it. Being able to have friends over and play Madden on franchise mode can't even be done in this years Madden. This literally makes this years Madden worthless to myself.

If EA included last years offline franchise mode with Madden 13, and nothing else in Madden 13 changed, my review could very well be 5 stars, so don't infer that my 1 star rating is for everyone. It's not. But, I know a lot of people who play offline franchise, and wanted to warn everyone else in this group that EA decided to ignore us this year.

UPDATE: 10/28/2012

I patiently held onto my copy of Madden 13 for a while to see if any updates by EA would be issued to correct some of the complaints I had above. I am happy to say that EA issued an update in mid-October which added some of the left out features. The update included the following:

1. Multiplayer offline franchise mode (up to 6 players)

2. Ability to import and edit rosters into offline franchise mode, this includes being able to bringing in created players, so it is now possible to play as yourself

3. A handful of tweaks to gameplay

As far as I can tell offline fantasy draft was not included. I personally love the ability to perform a fantasy draft, however, adding multiplayer and roster editing is still HUGE. Overall, I increased my rating by 1 star, so it is now 2 stars overall. The gameplay compared to Madden 12 is improved, and I think the overall experience is quite a bit of fun, so if you like previous Madden games, you will be happy with the purchase. If all of the features would have been included in the original release date (including the still left out offline fantasy draft), I think this version could have been worth a 4 star rating. So call it sour grapes, but having to wait nearly 2 months for the features that I consider a staple of Madden, I can't bring myself to give it over 2 stars.

Unless you like playing single games do not get this crap. If you are a longtime Franchise mode player do not get this....there is NO Franchise mode and what we have in it's place...Crappy Careers...is not Franchise mode and it's crap. The new game engine is a nice idea but it's far from ready and therefore it's crap. Maybe if EA had concentrated on the game play engine and left the rest of what they had in M12 alone they would have had a game but what they gave us is crap and I refuse to call it a game because it's just crap. I hope I'm getting my point across with my continuous use of the word crap...M13 truly is a POS.

09/01/12: Now that I have time to play more I just want to add this to my previous comments. At first glance I thought that the new onfield game play was better but after playing 2 seasons worth of games I have to say that the "physics" EA has hyped so much isn't there either. The physics of player on player impact is far superior in Madden 12 and so is the AI. I will give this one example from the dozens per game that I see. Playing with the 49ers I watched Aldon Smith make 3 sacks in one game that were totally "instant replay" versions of each other and they were total BS when it comes to the physics of game play. Smith was coming at the QB who was looking at the opposite side of the field on all 3 plays so what would you expect from a hard hitting linebacker coming in full speed on a QB totally unaware that he's about to be hit? A monster driving hit chest to chest to try to cause a fumble? That's what I expected to see and what I saw time and time again in Madden 12 but in Madden 13 when Smith impacted the QB it was like he hit a brick wall and stopped dead from full speed and instead had to grab the QB and twist him to the ground. Huh? Really? And this is suppose to be a physics engine? After playing enough games the real problems with the new engine are huge and glaring and go way beyond players flopping and flailing on the ground after the play is over.

I decided to try playing a game online to see if any of the online adjustments made so far have made the game better and no it has not. Every 2 or 3 plays I watch one of my defensive backs just take off toward the opposite sideline at a 90 angle (sometimes he goes behind the QB and sometimes he goes behind the MLB) with no regard what so ever for the play called and what is taking place on the field. I didn't even finish the first quarter before I turned it off and put Madden 12 back in. There is no sense in playing such a piece of garbage and there is no sense in such an obvious AI error still being there after more than a month. I'm guessing that the safeties still become statues in the middle of the field too when the other team is way behind allowing receivers to just run free behind them but I didn't play long enough to find out.

This is my last update because this was my last attempt at playing this crap. Update #3 from EA...losts of promises from EA but I guess it was just an attempt to keep sales up as word got out about how bad this crap is because if anything the game is worse than before. Do your self a favor and save your money. I wouldn't even buy this crap out of the $5 used game bin.

LOL more like $20-$30. First of all NO FRANCHISE MODE. Second, NO CREATE A PLAYER. Third, ALL THE DRILLS AND STUFF LIKE THAT ARE GONE. Fourth, THE DRAFT IMPORT HAS BEEN REMOVED. Fifth, the music is literally crap. SMH why they had to remove these features from the game that made it fun to play. I cannot believe that franchise mode is, essentially, gone. No creating a player (generally yourself so that you can pretend you are on your favorite team), no draft each year to fill your roster, and no traning camp exercises/drills to improve your players. It works as advertised. But it's also about the most cheaply built piece of PAINTED plastic I've ever seen. Mine had dust and a HAIR painted in to the finish. The slide works, the LEDs look ok. It does NOT look like the picture, the finish is not glossy, more of an orange peel. Has to have line-of-sight with IR base. Sony's Bluetooth remote works much better, has tons more functions, and costs $10 less. This one is a waste due to extremely poor quality construction and a sub-par feature set.

I bought this remote in the hopes that the sleek, modern design would make this a welcome addition to my PS3. It turned out to be a complete waste of money. This product is cheaply made out of flimsy plastic. I could actually feel the plastic warp as I slid the top down to access the other buttons. The charging stand was also a complete disappointment. my remote would never actually make a connection to the charging stand unless you held the remote down firmly with you hand. This was due to the fact that the stand was made just as flimsily and cheaply as the remote itself. Along with a price that is more than the standard Sony remote, I would tell you that you are better off using your PS3 remote than this product.

This remote does its job and has the potential of being great, however, it feels very cheaply made and the slide down feature on it is loud and not smooth at all. It actually snaps when you slide it down. Right out of the package i noticed it looks like they used oil to help it slide better but once that wears out then what? Do i have to re-oil it myself? And oil on a remote seemed rather odd to me. I also dont like the fact that you have to keep the base connected to one of the usb ports on ur PS3. It reads it as a controller. So lets say you want to keep it connected at all times and still pop in your fav game to play? When you boot up your actual gaming controller, it will come up as (2nd player) instead of 1st, so you have to disconnect the base of this remote in order to play games and use your controller. A definite inconvenience and hassle in my opinion.

I dont mind that it was made using cheap plastic and that it feels hollow when you're using it but had this manufacturer used bluetooth technology, it would have made a world of difference. You have to aim the remote at the base for it to work.

**IMPORTANT NOTE**

This remote does NOT work well with all Blu-ray movies. You cannot get the menus to pop up on some and are only able to use the play/stop/fwd feature.

This product is a nice idea and it works pretty good. Unfortunately the finish quality is not as good as the online images imply. One would think of a nice high gloss black piano finish as we know it from the PS3 or the Apple Ipods to match the Playstation. In fact the remote is simply painted in high gloss black with an orange peel to it, which makes it look cheap. The remote has a nice weight to it and the functionality is very good. The charger is a little hard to use sometimes, as the remote doesn't always sit right on the contacts. It needs to be mentioned that unlike the actual PS3 controllers this remote is IR(Infra-Red) based, not bluetooth connect, and therefore needs to be pointed at the charging base which doubles as the IR receiver unit and connects via a USB cable to the PS3 to charge the nested remote and control the PS3.

After paying the money that I have payed for this seat, I have to say that I expected more.

The seat itself is ok. I find it comfortable, it holds the wheel firmly, and you can adjust the distance of the pedals and the wheel. The integrated sound is fine as well, although to me it doesn't bring an awful lot. You could play with your earphones and you would be alright. But then, all the other components have, in a higher or lower degree, some sort of issue.

The main thing for me is the vibration. It is so disappointing that, if I had known beforehand how it was going to be, I would have not bought this seat. I decided to go for the SV seat after getting my Logitech G27 and experiencing for the first time the great immersion feeling that its force-feedback provides. I thought that extending that feeling to the seat would be the closest you can be to a real driving experience. Unfortunately, this is not the case, as when I was assembling the seat, I found out that the vibration is not syncronized to the game, but simply connected to the bass. Not only that, the seat has only one pattern of vibration. Overall, better forget about any kind of immersion into the game from this side.

Then, we can talk about the platform for the pedals. It looks very compatible with the G27, as it has the same size and the same holes that the pedals. However, if you assemble them in this way, the bar that holds the wheel falls exactly in front of the brake pedal, which means that you would be hitting the bar with your leg every time you want to press the brake. Fortunately, there is one additional hole in the platform, a little out of the center, and you can screw the pedals there in a way that the bar falls between the brake and the clutch and it doesn't bother. However, by doing so, you assemble the pedals with just one bolt, so you have to keep it tight to prevent them from moving when playing.

And finally, another big issue is the "compatible" gearshift holder. My God, I can't believe that the seat and the gearshift are made by the same company! It is a complete disaster! You have to unscrew one bolt of the seat to stick the gearshift and then screw it back, but it becomes so unaccessible once you have put the gearshift that screwing it back took me hours, trying to setup adaptors from my home tools to my Allen to reach it. Not only that, once I finished with this piece, I proceeded to insert what would be the actual support of the gear, only to find out that the subwoofer under the sit acts as a barrier and does not allow it to go to the end, what means that I can't reach the gears keeping my back in the seat!

After all, I kind of sorted the issues (except the vibration; there is nothing to do there) and I am having good fun, but the bottom line is that the extra money I paid for this seat, compared with the other standard ones in the market without sound or vibration, is not worth at all.

I was looking at this seat asking myself are the built in speakers worth it? I mean, I have a fantastic Denon/Polk sound system already. But what I was really interested in was a self contained system that could be placed anywhere without depending on a separate sound system. I first connected it to my home theater system, using my 55" TV as the monitor. This bypassed the seat's sound system, so I could make an honest comparison with the seat's self contained sound versus home theater sound. After hearing the two setups, I preferred the Playseat SV sound experience to the HT setup. It definitely was more immersive, as advertised. Close proximity to the speakers allows you to experience all the subtle sounds along with well, more immersion.

I like the wheel platform coming from the chair the SV model uses I had no obstacle problem of moving my foot from accelerator to brake some have complained about when the platform is attached from the pedal side of the Playseat. The chair is comfortable, but I would appreciate building this chair with thicker foam, or even memory foam (why not, the chair is top class priced).

The tubular steel supports fit together easily, and the locking mechanism holding the paired tubes together is effective. The tolerances are not exactly tight though, and I am considering tightening them slightly using the material half of Velcro. The spec for weight tolerance in this seat is another selling point (300 lbs max).

If you really want another notch of game immersion, I recommend pairing this with the Playseat Pro Kit TV stand with its own monitor. It really puts that cockpit feel right into the game. This also allows you to place it anywhere you would like, as long as an electrical outlet is nearby.

The Playseat SV has given me a top rate simulator gaming experience. I was willing to pay the additional money for it, and I am glad I did.

The gear shift mount does not work with this model without modifications(metal work). You would think that the manufacturer might test this out, but nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Because the subwoofer is mounted under the seat the metal plate that attaches to the seat does not fit. Ok, so i fixed that only to find out that you can not adjust the position of the gearshift because it hits the subwoofer. The seat is great, but after paying good money for a product I do not want to waste my time fixing it so it works properly.

The quality of construction and the materials used are up to the task of family fun. This is a solid seat with a solid deck for both the wheel and the foot pedals. It adjusts very easily, however, the cables and the chase for the cables may leave you with less adjustments than the seat itself allows. The sound quality is better than I expected but the vibration is pointless (it does not sync with the action, only the bass). The sound coming from the headrest offers excellent stereo separation and the sub will emphasize the deep game sounds very well. I have a second seat without sound, I had to install a set of PC speakers to duplicate the fun that the SV seat offers. I recommend the Playseat, I recommend the Playseat SV if you want to enjoy an immersion experience without a home theater. (I use mine with the home theater on too)

When I first saw this title, I was skeptical "Isn't this basically a Sega version of Mario Tennis?" While it doesn't exceed that expectation or comparison, Sega Superstars Tennis is still a better game by itself than I expected.

Unlike Mario Tennis, which only uses characters from the Mario franchise, Sega Superstars Tennis is more like "Super Smash Brothers" with tennis. Characters from almost all of Sega's series are here, with 8 in the beginning and 8 more that can be unlocked by playing the game. The series represented are Sonic the Hedgehog, Jet Set Radio, Samba de Amigo, NiGHTS, Space Channel 5, Super Monkey Ball, and even classics like Alex Kidd and Golden Axe. There are characters from each series (5 characters from Sonic, while most of the other series have 1 or 2 characters each) as well as a themed stage. Furthermore, some series that didn't get characters in the game still have stages, such as House of the Dead, Puyo Pop, and Virtua Cop. Basically, if you've ever owned a Sega Dreamcast, there will be at least one series in this game that you will enjoy.

The gameplay feels a little more realistic than Mario Tennis; the only "gimmick" is the Superstar Mode that each character charges up by hitting the ball back and forth and getting points. Once the Superstar Mode gauge is filled (represented by a star underneath the character going completely golden) the character can activate Superstar Mode. The main effect of Superstar Mode is to change the pattern that the ball is launched in. It's different for each characters some characters cause the ball to spiral around, some cause the ball to zig-zag, and some cause the ball to make sharp, sudden turns. There's usually another effect as well, some sort of obstacle launched at the enemy to make it more difficult to hit the ball. For example, Dr. Eggman's SS Mode launches waves of electric mines with each hit, and the opponent has to dodge those in addition to hitting the ball. Using Superstar Mode makes it more difficult for the enemy to return the serve, but it's by no means impossible once you get the patterns down, which is nice.

Other than that, the game is pretty simple tennis. There's no "charge levels" like in Mario, and there's no items or anything on the field either. The characters handle noticeably different from each other; characters like Beat from Jet Set Radio move really fast but don't hit hard, and when you switch to a heavy character like Dr. Eggman, it's easy to notice the difference in power and speed. However, the game also feels sort of empty because of this simplicity, as well; it's just tennis that happens to have Sega characters playing it.

To offset this, there are some thematic minigames (involving tennis) that can be played on some stages. The House of the Dead stage has a minigame where you need to avoid zombies and knock them down with the tennis balls that a machine is launching at you. Jet Set Radio's stage has you collecting spray cans lying around the court. These minigames use the same controls as the main tennis game and provide a reasonably interesting diversion from the main game.

The graphics and sound are both pretty good; there's a diverse selection of music for each stage, and both the stages and characters are rendered reasonably well. There's some voice acting in the game, but it's limited to grunts and post-game taunts. Neither is worth getting the game for by itself, but it helps make the package more solid.

Probably the main problem with this game is that despite the array of characters, stages, and minigames, it doesn't feel "Sega" enough. There's a good array of games represented, but the gameplay itself is basically Tennis with a single charge-up gimmick. Whether or not that's good or bad is up to you, but to me personally it didn't feel like there was enough character in each match. However, as a whole the game is pretty good, and worth it for a fan of any of Sega's series.

It's really a great game. Kind of like mario tennis with way more mini games and online play. If you like mario tennis, you'll love this.

This video game is okay overall. It plays tennis pretty well, and you can play with two players. The bad thing is that's all you can pretty much do. The adventure mode has a few other variations of play, but the basic game of tennis is basically all you are going to get out of this game. Also, the later adventure levels are pretty hard to beat! Maybe a good game to rent, but not to buy.
