This is Mortal Kombat at its best. Better than what I was expecting and I was expecting a lot after playing the Demo.
The kontent of the Kollector Edition is awesome. For the extra 30$ or so, you get a t-shirt, a key chain, the original model skin of ERMAC, (I got the original skin of SCORPION and his original fatality from EBgames), you get the online Kombat pass and 3 avatar and 2 themes for your console. You also get Scorpion and Sub Zero statues and they can be used to hold books or games together. Just like a library book holder. But, the gem of the content is without a doubt the Art Book. This alone is worth 50$ to me. You get all the original Art and sketches from the characters and arenas of the game. They explain their vision of how they went from original arena to the new ones. They even have clues in the text. Like the one about the ''ONI'' that is locked in Goro's Lair that sometimes gets out!!!! Does it mean the ''ONI'' is a hidden kombatant? Who knows......
The Game itself is very entertaining. I think the MK team hit a homerun with this one. The presentation is very well done. The menus are easy to navigate and the tone is very dark. I especially like the Neckropolis menu where you can go and see the entire character model and let me tell you some of the characters are very ehhhhh sexy. The females of courses. You have the option of seeing the damage version of them as well on top of the Bio's.
There seems to be a lot of replay value. There is a lot of ways you can play a match and that is excluding online. I mean there is a lot to do by yourself without playing online if that is what you want to do. I did not really like to hear we have to pay 10$ to play online, but I don't really play online, so it does not really affect me.
The gameplay itself is well balanced in my opinion. Although I sometime have difficulties pulling out combos, I just think I need more practice. The characters are really really really cool looking and I find it really awesome to see the cyborgs being real cyborgs. You hear metal sounds when you hit them. The entrances of the characters are really well done. I mean seeing Sub Zero making his entrance on a 50'' TV with HD.....there's nothing like it. The controls respond very well and I did not think the AI was too easy or too hard. It is really well balanced.
Overall, the Kollector Edition was worth every penny to me. I was happy to get all the extra stuff, but as I mentioned, the gem of this Kollection was the Art Book. Bravo Zulu to Ed Boon and his MK Team. There is a picture at the end of the Art Book showing all the team together and there's a least 60 peoples. You guys deserve to be recognized for the extraordinary work in putting together what I believe to be the best MK game ever.

Mortal Kombat is back... When I first heard about this game I kind of paid no mind. Because of how crappy MK became over all the years, so I was just thinking another MK with the same boring stiff style. Then I saw some videos and I LIKED it, then I played the demo and LOVED it, now I have the game and I'M IN LOVE with it. This is the best MK by far, for the longest I said MK3 was the best but this here outdid it all, finally they returned to 3D graphics on a 2D plane. MK now have 2-on-2 matches like Marvel vs. Capcom, Challenge Tower and Fatality Training (so no more excuses for not finishing your opponent). MK has even slim down their roster from that crazy 63 fighters in MK: Armageddon to about 30 fighters now and if you got PS3 like me you get Kratos and I can't think of anyone more suited for MK than the God of War himself and what make it even better they didn't dull down Kratos' style... They even have sequences from the GoW games for him in matches but you can only use him in versus mode. MK went back to their roots, one of my favorite things are: as you're taking and dealing damage the blood don't just squirt out onto the ground the fighters become bloody and disfigured. Now my absolute favorite thing is the super combo gauge as you take and deal damage your combo gauge fills level 1-enhanced special attack, level 2-combo breaker and level 3 the best of all X-RAY attack: the camera goes in and will show an inside view of the fighter who is being attacked while bones and organs are broken and shattered. The fatalities are all back to what they should be not that crap you got from MKvDC they brought the M-Rated worthy they introduced us to 18years ago. Now for my review: GAMEPLAY 5stars: there is four attack buttons, 2D fighting style and finally the fighters are more loose and flexible not stiff like previous MK, that's why I like this so much, GRAPHICS 5stars: this game looks great the stages are so well designed and so are the fighters and by the way this is 3D compatible which really sets the graphics off, STORY MODE 4stars: it becomes harder as the chapters progress and you get a chance to play with different fighters but no fatalities. ONLINE 5stars: take your skills online and compete against others and even watch fights as if you`re at the movies (you can even cheer and boo the fight)in King of the Hill, FIGHTERS 5stars: MK dramatically improved their roster by cutting it down. If you ever liked MK get this game, if you thought about MK get this game, if you're looking for an M-Rated fighter get this game. I wouldn't be surprised if this won Best Fighting Game... This is the best MK ever made. MORTAL KOMBAT 5STARS... FLAWLESS VICTORY!!!Buy Mortal Kombat: Kollector's Edition Now
The actual game is really fun. If you liked the first three games you will feel right at home. The only downside I can see in this new game is the X-ray attacks. After a while they might start to get repetitive. I have beat the story mode and played a couple of online matches. The online was a little bit laggy sometimes so it might suck when trying to land your hardly practiced combos. One of the best additions is the tag team mode. I haven't played it much because I am still trying to get better in 1v1 mode but it allows you to make even badder combos than before. Your second character can also attack while he is out of the tag. You can even beat the ladder mode with a buddy on tag team mode! It has a lot of content to unlock such as character kostumes and music and concept art. One thing that has me down is that the PSN has been down for a couple of days now and I can't play people online :(Moving on. The sculptures of SubZero and Scorpion look great and very detailed. You might find a lack of detail on something if you really try and look close. They hold whatever you put in between and look great anywhere if you have the space to showcase it :P
The concept art booklet is not as great. It has some info on how the characters and arenas are created but it is not very long. It is very nicely done though. One nice little feature is that they show a small picture of the classic levels from back in the original games and how they made them to look like now but with a twist.
You also get a reptile classic kostume and I got an ermac one from amazon. You also get a couple of themes for your PS3 and about 5 avatars for your PSN profile. The only thing lacking in this Kollector's edition is a soundtrack CD. For a game with such amazing music as Mortal Kombat they SHOULD had included an OST.
Now in my opinion, this is probably worth less than what I paid for it ($98.99) but if you're a fan of mortal kombat and want to own a piece of the series, then buy it.
If you liked Mortal Kombat, the game won't let you down.

As of this review (4/20/11), you need to know that this game is great but has a problem with freezing. This is a direct result of Update 1.01 which is supposed to enable online play. My advise is NOT to update to version 1.01 until a better version is released. I still recommend buying this game though.Want Mortal Kombat: Kollector's Edition Discount?
