I ordered this game to see exactly why everyone says it can't hold MLB the Show's jockstrap, and, well, let's just say after a couple hours of playing, I was down at my local Best Buy picking up MLB the Show 11 (see my review of that game here on Amazon). 2K11 isn't a bad game, let's just say that right off the top. But, the graphics are dated. They look a few years old. The player models are average at best. Gameplay is pretty good, analog controls work nicely. However, the animations are incomplete, I guess, for lack of a better word. I can't stand how the fielders do some weird jump before they throw the ball. Takes away the realism if you ask me. Running animations are done poorly too. Running from first to second, the runner will most times take a perfect 90 degree turn because the animations aren't properly spliced, so if you don't hit it at the right time, it's not a realistic turn, looks dumb. 2K Sports is getting there, slowly, because it's not all bad.

The commentary puts the Show to shame. The sounds of the ballpark are completely immersive and the fielding view when you hit the ball is fantastic. If you have an X Box, then this game is a good enough game to keep you from lamenting not having the Show. However, if you have a PS3 like me, there is no choice, but to get the Show. And I am not a fan boy for the Show either. I didn't get 2010's version because I knew it would be a roster update and really wasn't even going to get this year's version until I saw all the add-on's. So, this is an unbiased view of 2K11. I can't stand people who bash this game just so they can think they are tough. The Show is clearly the better game, but 2K11 is more than enjoyable enough to play on it's own right.

MLB 11 THE SHOW and MLB 2k11

To start out, ill admit it i am a THE SHOW fan boy and have played every copy of the show ever made. Also i have NEVER played the 2k series on the ps3. (had on 360 when i had 1 and ps2) This year the show to me is broken, so i went ahead and purchased this game.

Here is my review for both games...

GRAPHICS

THE SHOWThe show in this category is the clear cut winner. The player models are PERFECT, they have all the players faces and it really looks like them. Stadiums are beautiful and the main menu is pleasing to the eye.

2k11Really lacking in this area. Player faces are for a 2011 game PATHETIC, for a lack of a better word the graphics are blurry (something is just not right) They only have the big stars faces and it barly looks like them like what i said very very bad. The stadiums are very detailed, fans actually move and the main menu is the quick game menu. Also the long hair in this game is so bad, you can see its short hair with strans of long hair on back they are not even the same color

WINNER by a landslideTHE SHOW

GAMEPLAY

TSVery smooth... but in many ways unrealistic. Any pitcher who has a 5.00 era will be Lincecum on this game. (my brother threw a perfect game with Kyle Davies...COME ON!) The AI is too perfect in this game, not many errors the ai pitching is very difficult to solve even on rookie. When your pitching to the cpu it is hard to fool and paint the corners. Analog controls are a bit off.

2knot much better. Analog is better but i still dont like it. The gameplay is weird, as fielders catch the ball really weird. The screen itself is a bit too busy, theres way too much going on. Also this game has better pitch movement you can tell the difference from a FB and a CUTTER.

CAREER

TSRTTS is the best career mode in any sport game. You can either enter draft or select a team. You get points per AB or batter faced and based on that you get 21 points for a great one or even more for a good play in clutch situations, and around 10 for ok moves. But, theres a glitch you will always be traded no matter what.

2khavent played it much but it seems good. I dont like how you cant enter the draft, but i guess that isnt too big of a deal to many. I just really dont like the helper he doesnt shut up!

WINNERTHE SHOW

FRANCHISE

TSSame old one for about 6 years now... Really needs some upgrading... Trading is broken on this game, you cant trade after two years, and even if you put on forced trades they still dont work. Also the budget system is broke. After 3 seasons the top players are all FA's because nobody has any money, so this option needs to be off... and there is no real contracts

2kNot much different than the show but hey at least you can trade. They have the real player contracts and the menus are better. In the fantasy draft tho, the AI only takes SP and the fake prospects that have 5 star potential.

2klike the real thing, they did a great job

The rosters (my big thing)

TSThe same every year, cant edit them much, the bar overalls are hard to judge how good the really are

2kFINALLY for pitchers you can edit if they are strong against lefties or righties. You can fix their potential (in the show you cant so Sam Fuld is a D so that means in franschise or RTTS he will not get better) I havent been able to check their mlb today or the roster updates due to the psn outage. Also number overalls thank you so much easier to edit the players my way

Winner -2k

Overall 2k is a good game but looks wise its very ugly. Players are so bad and it just seems like something is a miss when playing a full game. This year gameplay in both series is down and not very enjoyable. This game is on its way but still needs alot of work. If i had to choose one it would be the show because you can play multiple games without feeling like you actually just played a full 9 inning game. Yes the show is not very good this year but the bottom line is its 2011 an there is no excuse for bad graphics anymore. I guess ive been spoiled from the show graphics but the 07 verison of the show has better looking graphics than this game.

But i will keep 2k11 just because i love editing my own rosters and 2k11 has better ways of editing players, and i like frachise mode too and that is better on this game. So ill be playing both... Now its your turn decide...

this year its a wash, both series need to step their game up BIG time in 2012...

This year Major League Baseball 2k11 steps up to the plate and delivers. Gameplay is smooth. The pitching and batting analog mechanics top The Show. Player models are better in The Show, but stadium models are comparable. Does it matter if The Show's graphics are photorealistic if a game is too hard to be playable or the online play is unstable? Some of the complaints I have read about Major League Baseball 2k11 include the camera angle and hooked foul home-runs. You can change the camera angle to whatever angle you want, so you can experiment and choose the camera view right for you. If you practice, play more than two full games, and demonstrate patience, you should be able to hit more consistently. I play the game on Pro level and find there is a decent balance of hitting and outs depending on the pitcher. Consider this, as a player, you are not going to be able to outhit the elite pitchers in the game every time you face them. 2k11 also has realistic manager logic in the My Player mode. The Show's manager logic in Road to the Show has been severely flawed for years, and when you combine that with a high level of difficulty, it makes for a frustrating game. I know The Show has been making improvements every year, but the improvements were marginal.

Try the demos for both games and decide for yourself which one plays smoother. I played both demos multiple times and decided on 2k11. It was a hard decision, but for me the flashiness and the legacy of The Show could not overcome the playability of 2k11. Isn't that what we complain about the Madden franchise? It's the same game with an updated roster every year. I did notice, however, graphics in the demo version of Major League Baseball 2k11 did not appear as good for AT&T park than in the full version (the demo only allows for you to play in AT&T park in San Francisco). I don't know what that is all about, but it appears that the lighting has been improved from the demo to the full version. Also, commentary is missing from the demo of Major League Baseball 2k11. I don't know what that is about because the commentary in 2k11 is superior to The Show. I am still working on my base running skills in 2k11, and this has been a source of frustration for me. Xbox fans should not worry because this is a high quality baseball game. If PS3 fans are tired of The Show, you have a high quality substitute. Here is a summary of the advantages of 2k11: easier to read pitchers' arm motions and see pitch movement so you can make better plate decisions, tighter analog controls, better pitching mechanic, online stability, better commentary, tons of stat tracking information, excellent my player mode with excellent manager logic, and a deep franchise mode. This is the game my friends and I are playing this baseball season.

My son likes it but not much like the 2k games. He enjoys it a few times but not all the time.

This is an okay baseball game and is kind of difficulty if you haven't played any of 2K baseball games before. I still don't like the pitching part of the game, but once you get used to the game it might come along. I like the My Player feature, but if your going for trophies, let me warn you that it'll be time confusing. The graphics of the game was a step up from 2K10 game and for what I've played there isn't as much glitches as 2K10. As for the trophies, some of them are time confusing yet the game trophies are a little bit easier. Overall this is an okay game, but if your looking for a great baseball game then I would recommend The Show series.
