OK, I really want to like this remote. I have wanted a PS3 remote for a year and have occasionally read reviews to pick the right remote.

The Sony branded PS3 remote is waaay too big, no backlight, and poorly placed buttons (Too easy to push the wrong button).

The Good:

Small, just the right size. Minimal well-placed buttons. Inexpensive.

The Bad:

No backlight (However the buttons are outlined in white and the button count is small enough that they are easy to remember). The biggest problem is that the remote MUST BE POINTED EXACTLY at the receiver for it to work. Even pointed exactly the receiver part will light up with a red flash and still not work---so you have to push it a couple times.

If something changes I will update this review, like maybe new batteries will make a difference, but I doubt it because it does light up red, so I know it received the signal.

I will continue to use it because it still seems to the the best PS3 remote available. Just make sure your PS3 is straight ahead and you point the remote directly at it.

The key thing to remember about this remote is this: it's very, very inexpensive.

I have been using this remote for something like 3 and a half years now (I don't recall exactly when I got it). It has always worked, albeit not as well as a much more expensive remote. It has a small selection of buttons, which is enough for 99% of users and use cases. It has sufficient range, but I will agree with some other reviewers that the "sweet spot" for wireless signal transmission is pretty small. You really do need a clear line between this remote and the receiver, and you need the remote to be aimed fairly precisely. Even then the response time is, again, less than that of a much more expensive remote.

Bottom line, this is NOT the best remote out there, but it is great for the price, and most people will live very happily with this remote even with its limitations.

I did not have either of the problems the other reviewers described (lag & having to point the remote directly at the receiver.) Its always worked exactly as I would expect a remote to.

This remote works great as an inexpensive, basic PS3 remote. Highly recommended, especially with how low the price is.

This is a lot easier to use than the PS3 controller when watching a blu ray. It is cheap too.
