As rally fans know, quality pure rally games have been missing for awhile. I felt disappointed with where Codies went with their Dirt series, though fun and pretty, the pure rally was lacking.
With such negative reviews on WRC and WRC 2 from Milestone, I never bothered to import the game. Then came WRC 3. Reviews were very mixed but from the reviews that made sense to me, this was the game I was looking for and you know what, it was. Sure WRC 3 is not perfect, but the intensity and feeling of being on edge is just right. The sensation of speed, the difficulty, the co-drivers instructions, and the non flashy: sit down, strap in, shut up, and drive style of this game is great.
Though I have never raced a rally car, I have raced dirt oval and road raced in real cars. The way the cars react in WRC 3 to the road surface, to correct driving, and to incorrect driving, seems more real than the competitor's. When I make a mistake and the car goes of course, I never question why. I can always feel where I went wrong and it honestly makes sense. FYI I use the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel.
Big plus to the distro company for making the discs region free so I could play this on my USA PS3 without changing anything.
There are so many event locations with so many stages, and so many cars.. I am going to enjoy this for many many hours.

A critical issue for me with all driving games is, does it control well with my Fanatec GT2 wheel. WRC3 does. With a wheel sensitivity setting of 300 I feel the cars respond to my every command. That doesn't mean that I don't drive off course quite often but it's my fault and not the game's response to my controller. While I like driving games I'm not particularly skilled with them. I always turn off assists and choose the default AI difficulty then scale back as necessary. To be competitive in WRC3 I had to swallow my pride and accept the beginner settings. But, to the game's credit, that setting is sufficient to allow me to feel like I actually know how to drive a rally car and progress through the career mode.
I have all of the Forza series, including Horizon, as well as GT5, F1 2010 and Dirt 2. There is something about pure rally games that appeals to me and WRC3 hits the mark perfectly. Lots of stages (83) over 13 regions. Enough livery options to tickle that itch without overwhelming me with choices, as Forza does. And, if you just want to drive you can skip the career mode and just pick any stage or rally group you want and go for it. I like games that don't lock content behind some sort of leveling system. You won't have all the different cars outside of career mode but you will have the cars driven by all the current teams, and that's fine with me.
I have no experience driving a rally car so I can't speak to the realism of this representation. What I can say is that I'm having a lot of fun and it meets my imagined expectation of what driving a rally car feels like.
Graphically it's a notch behind Forza and GT5 but I'm only aware of it when I'm watching a replay (something I do a lot simply because it's so much fun). When I'm racing I'm too focused on what I have to do to notice that the leaves on the trees or the fans who line the course are rendered in less than cutting edge graphics. Trust me, it won't detract from the experience.
Sound is acceptable. Again, I'm focused on driving and listening to the navigator, not the sound of the engine.
I'm a long way from completing this game and I may eventually find the career mode becomes too difficult to finish but that still leaves the free play open to enjoy all the stages.
Bottom line: this is a solid game that works very well with a wheel controller and should provide countless hours of entertainment. I understand that the developers, Milestone, don't plan to release it in North America because they don't feel there is a market here. They may be right but fortunately PS3 games are not region locked so get your hands on a copy, if you like pure rally games without the gymkhana, and have some fun.

This looks outstanding on my 46" TV. My only complaint is that it won't connect to my Logitech Momo on the PS3. It's still excellent on the PS3 controller, though.Read Best Reviews of WRC 3 World Rally Championship PS3 Here
My husband loves the game. It is more like rally racing than Dirt and completely different than the Torismo franchise (which he loves as well). The cars handle more like real cars on rough terrain which takes some getting used to. Overall, a good game and great Amazon service and delivery.perfect condition for used! game is fun, don't buy for looks, if you want that buy dirt 3, this is more about the physics.
