I heard this game was pretty bad, so out of curiosity I bought it and played through it once. I did enjoy it.

What I liked:

Combat system pretty simple, assign magic attacks to the buttons you want.

Environment is well done.

Concept. I liked the concept of a scantily clad female treasure hunter exploring a beautiful environment. (Sue me!) I am sure others agree with me. I am also a female who likes to play games with female main characters. This game features an Anime style female lead, with a pair of gunblades.

What I Disliked:

Almost no story. Silly predictable dialogue. A bit Corny. The characters are one dimensional.

A lot of people complain about the "graphics" in this game. For this day and age, the poly count of the characters are quite low. This was originally a PC game. This should be a PS2 or 1st Generation Xbox game, not PS3 or Xbox 360. I was also disappointed that the concept art was better than the actual 3d characters. In game Ayumi looks very different from the concept art. The game looks good but it could look better.

There are no in-game explanations of how to advance to the next level. The game for the most part is straight forward but a couple enemies require a specific order and type of attacks.

Controls for attacks are not stable. If you want to make a special maneuver like rolling, you most likely will have to do it more than once. When you earn special attacks though the game they do not work most of the time. You may find yourself sticking to the main attack button and single button spells.

Repetitive game play. At one point in the game you start back at the beginning and go through the SAME ruins all over again, occasionally fighting a different boss. This was the least enjoyable part of the game.

The constant repetitive music is okay, but after the third hour of playing it got on my nerves. I liked the in game music, but there was not enough variety.

Health items and spells. You can purchase items and spells by using souls. You get souls by defeating enemies. You can purchase these at anytime as long as you have enough souls. What I disliked was when you advance to the next level, the price of the health items increased. I would not complain about this if you could buy all your restorative items at once, but unfortunately you use these items as soon as you buy them.

Other Thoughts:

If I had to buy this game again, I would pay no more than $15. Buy it used, or rent. This game took me about 12 hours to complete.

I would very much like to see an improved sequel to this game. Not a great game but not terrible either.

Premise

*You play a young treasure hunter who discovers a special artifact that appears to consume her.

The Good Things

*With the exception of the cutscenes, which were made to look like cell-animated anime clips, the game has great graphics. Sound quality seems good.

*Gameplay is like a combination between "Tomb Raider" and "Conan." You spend your time exploring ruins and chopping up evil creatures with swords, guns, and magic. On top of all that, I love the way the character runs really fast.

*Controls are easy to use, and some of the buttons are customizeable.

*Level design is good. Each environment is split into levels that you can move back and forth through.

*The story is good.

*Characters are alright. The main character has quite an attitude that you will either love or hate. She looks great though, and much like "BloodRayne," she is...uhh...quite jiggly.

*Awesome music.

*Has trophies.

The Bad Things

*No multiplayer.

*Not for kids; rated M for bloody violence (although you can turn the blood off in the options).

*Even though it is easy enough to kill the hoards of monsters that come out at you, it can be a bit annoying when they gain up on you while you're trying to attack the boss monster.

*I think the cutscenes look kind-of gaudy. I am glad that the rest of the game is not rendered the same way.

I was initially worried about the wierd cell-animated cutscenes and the main character's attitude, but the gameplay itself turned out to be quite fun, and the graphics are good. If you're looking for a fantasy adventure with lots of intesne fighting, this should satisfy you.

I will start by saying this: If you buy this game at the price it is right now (around $12-15 as of March 31st 2012) you're not getting too bad of a deal. I wish I had bought it cheap, but I paid a lot more. This came up on a clearance sale which is why I am now writing a review on it.

This game was a big let-down for me, but then again I also enjoy a good storyline and a combat system that at least takes some effort. This was NOT it. The graphics were way too cartoony for me, a lot like the cut-scenes in Mirror's Edge, if you've played that. Yes, everyone has mentioned that the main character is hot, and she is, if you're into cartoon chicks. Why is that what everyone mentions about the game? Because there's not much more it has going for it.

The bottom line is, you won't get that great of a playing experience, so if you think it'll be anything like Tomb Raider, God of War, Fable, etc. etc., forget it. The story line is really bad, the characters and voice acting is cheesy, and the combat system is way too simple and limited. And, as was mentioned in at least one of the other reviews, you actually start over and play through the exact same levels again with different (or just more) creatures. If there's anything that shows how very little effort was put into the game, that's a clear sign.

I liked the basic idea, but it just need so much more to make it more than a $10 game or a $2 rental.
