Hello! First off I want you to know that I have been playing guitar and bass for nearly forty years and I am a pretty good guitar player. I have over twenty guitars and five basses, and all of these instruments are of high quality.

The first and most important thing I want to inform the reader is that the guitar included in this package is very poor quality. A friend of mine bought this Rocksmith Guitar Bundle for their twelve year old son, and called me over to help them with the guitar because they could not keep it in tune. Well I worked on it and changed the strings and the guitar just would not stay in tune no matter what I did. I talked with a few other people who have bought the same item and they are having the same issues with the guitar. So the very first lesson any person needs to learn about playing the guitar is buying a good guitar, one that will stay in tune so you can start to learn to play. The guitar included in this bundle would not stay in tune for more then thirty seconds of playing before it went out of tune. Now I am not saying you need to go out and drop $3000 on a Gibson Les Paul, but plan on spending $500 to $600 on your first guitar. With that money you will be able to buy a good Epiphone or Fender guitar, that will stay in tune for you. Of course if you can afford to buy a really good guitar, please do, because you will find it easier to play and it will sound very nice.

As for the my review of the Rocksmith guitar game, I would give this a million stars if I could. It is by far one of the finest teaching tools for the guitar that I have ever seen. Like I said before above, I have been playing for forty years, and I was able to learn and improve my playing from this wonderful game. The game adjusts to your skill level and allows you to work on your weak areas. The only thing that I did not personally like about the game was the selection of songs and this is probably because of my age, but there are a few classic gems included.

So, I say do not buy the bundle with the guitar included because it will just frustrate you and hinder your learning. I do say buy buy buy this wonderful game and go buy a good guitar and enjoy!!!! Most important of all, learning to play the guitar or any instrument takes a lot of time and practice. Nothing good ever comes easy!

The game is good but the guitar is bad. The guitar may look all nice but it's really a cheaply made guitar mass produced for the game. After just 2 usage, less than 10 hours of playing, the nut supporting the output jack on this Epiphone Jr. came off as I unplugged the tone cable. What good is an electric guitar when the output jack is jacked up? Had I known the guitar would fail, I would have never purchase the guitar bundle and would have got the game with tone cable bundle instead. I would have saved about $100 by saying no to this guitar bundle. 5 stars for the game; 1 star for the guitar.

I have played the game three times since it arrived, and I dont ever want to put it down. Like all guys, I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar and now I am! I love how it adapts to how well I play and allows me to learn at my pace. Bottom line, get this game. Totally worth every penny!

My bro got me this game for Christmas. I didn't get the bundle that came with the guitar though because I didn't want him to spend too much money on me, so I decided to purchase a cheap guitar. Based on Amazon reviews, I decided to go with the Dean Vendetta XM Solid Body Electric Guitar, Mahogany Finish. It was less than $117 when I bought it, but I think it's even cheaper now.

The finish is more of a dark brown colored than a natural wood color, but it still looks, sounds, and feels, pretty good. I guess just purchasing the game does give you some options as to what guitar you want to pick up, so if you are deciding on the bundle, but don't like the guitar, just buy the game and shop around.

As for the game, it's pretty fun and addicting. I'm just a beginner, so I'm having a hard time figuring out if I have to use certain fingers for the string or fret. Since I just started, it seems that I can sort of do everything with one finger and move it around. This is probably not the best thing to do, but I'm sure there will be more lessons and tips to help me properly position my fingers. I'll update this review again as I get further into the game, but I have to say that playing a game with a real guitar is pretty awesome. I had an old electric guitar that I never played because I didn't even have a good foundation or lessons. At least now I feel that I'm getting some where. It's even better that it's a game because it just seems more fun to play with music and it feels that I'm actually learning something along the way.

*THIS IS A REVIEW FOR THE GAME, NOT THE GUITAR. I ALREADY HAVE A GUITAR, SO I HAVEN'T TRIED THE BUNDLED ONE.*

Before getting into my review, here is an important tip:

AUDIO LAG!!! If you are experiencing audio lag, the problem is the HDMI cable. You need to run the audio from the RCA (red and white) cables through the tv, headphones, or an external stereo/surround sound system. Doing so will fix the annoying audio lag problem I'm sure most people will experience. So if you buy the game, don't forget about this tip!

Here is a little background about myself to support my experience playing the game:

I am a musician and I've played guitar for a number of years. However, I've always played basic rhythm guitar. I never got around to learning scales, solos, power chords, ect... only regular chords for rhythm.

Now for the game. I have only played it for about 2 hours so far, and I am really enjoying the experience. I'm a pretty busy person, and I often feel guilty when playing video games because even though I do enjoy playing, I feel like it eats up time I could use for more productive activities. Finally, I have a game that I don't have to feel bad about playing for hours on end! I am a worship leader at a church, so guitar is part of my job. Not only is this game fun to play, but I can see how it is going to help my abilities on guitar grow tremendously! The interface is similar to Rockband or Guitar Hero, but the developers did a superb job at modifying the familier interface to work well with a real guitar. It may feel awkward at first, but stick with it, and you will get it. After a few songs, I felt like I was playing Guitar Hero, and it was mind boggling to think I was playing a real guitar. Considering I already have experience playing, the game felt oversimplified starting out, but it was still worth playing to get a feel for the interface. It didn't take long for the game to start getting a little challenging. The game adjusts on the fly to how well you are playing, so don't worry what level player you are. If you have never played guitar before, it will keep things simple for you. If you are an expert on guitar, it may take a little longer, but it will adjust to your skill level. There is so much to say about the game, but I'm limited on time. I just wanted to get a quick review out for anyone considering the game so that you can know this is a game worth buying. If you have any desire to learn or improve on guitar, BUY THIS GAME!! If you have a hard time getting motivated to practice your guitar, BUY THIS GAME!!! If you loved the Rockband and Guitar Hero games, then BUY THIS GAME and quit waisting your time on a plastic toy!!!

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time is a great conclusion to the series, but the beautiful part about it is that you can play it without having played any of the other games before it. When you first pop in the disc you're greeted with a short movie that explains all of the events leading up to this game. Once that's over, you're up to speed and ready to roll.

The story is quite interesting, it's loaded with laugh-out-loud humor, and the characters are voiced to perfection. This rivals any of the Hollywood CGI movies that have come out in recent memory in terms of animation, story, humor, and the acting performances.

The game is loaded with variety. As Ratchet, you'll be flying around in your spaceship, in kind of an open-world setting, where you can visit various planets and moons in each space sector and accomplish side-tasks. The moons are spherical and come in two really fun varieties: platforming segments which will you remind you of Super Mario Galaxy, and shooting segments which will you remind you of Super Stardust HD. The planets are where the story actually takes place and you will explore much larger environments and meet new characters. In space, you can get into dog-fights with Dr. Nefarious' minion space-ship fighters, or you can meet up with various other space-travelers and help them with their requests. Your ship is upgradable, you just have to find little creatures called Zoni. There are 40 of them hidden throughout the game's universe, many of them are found by completing the optional moons. While roving around in your ship, there are also 4 fictitious radio stations to choose from. They all feature wonderful music of different varieties for different tastes, and DJs that will make you laugh out loud with their banter.

The weapons are ingeniously conceived, and you'll find yourself laughing when you see what some of them do. Humor is a big part of this game. But it's not all about humor. There is some serious gameplay here, too. Fun platforming, creative puzzles, RPG-like systems where your character levels up as he gains experience, granting him more hit points, and all of your weapons level-up with use, as well. Also, the weapons can be upgraded with parts that you find hidden around the universe, and some of the weapons can even be custom-painted.

Some of the best gameplay in this package comes from Clank and the new time-based puzzles. There will time-pads placed around the Clock at the Center of the Universe (the area that Clank traverses throughout the game), and you can record yourself doing things on these time-pads, then play back the action simultaneously while doing something else with your present self. In other words, you can set up recordings of past-selves to help your present-self accomplish tasks that would otherwise be impossible alone. The mechanics may remind you of a game called Braid. It's all very-well implements and often ingenious, always fun.

The game itself is rather easy to get through on the lower difficulties, it will be appropriate for children and adults alike who may not have much experience gaming. You'll get to see the whole game without much difficulty. But there are also Normal and Hard difficulties, which amp up the challenge, and seasoned gamers will find them more than sufficient to give them a fun time that's not too easy or too frustrating. This game is perfect for all-ages, it's appropriate for kids as well as adults, and I recommend it highly!

First let me start off by saying if you liked Tools of Destruction (I loved it), stop reading and buy this game, it's quite a bit better, really the same game with a bunch of noticeable improvements! The story is great and the writing is quite clever as usual. This is definitely the funniest Ratchet game yet, getting to play with Quark is worth it on its own! They have a lot of cool new puzzles (During Clank's play time) and some great action with Ratchet. The weapons are brilliant again, you get some of your old favorites (with minor alterations) and some great new additions. Not to mention the voice acting is great yet again.

Now in the interest of keeping this spoiler free, I won't go into Clank's story/gameplay because it will give away some of the fun, but just know that his new abilities and his new responsibilities are tied to the game title and they are very cool!

Ratchet plays the same as usual except for a few new gadgets (hover boots being my favorite) and some awesome new tools! They've also added a bit of a space shooter into the game which is a blast and introduces many "side quests"(Not to mention a great little Quark mini-game). Lots to do in this one guys, tons to collect, it's quite long and the replay is immense as usual!

My advice, add this one to your collection if you've played Tools of Destruction, if you haven't you may not get the story right off the bat and you'll really miss out on a lot, although the gameplay will still be fun as usual. I do suggest playing Tools of Destruction first.

Well that's about it, this game is just what you would expect from the Insomniac team, a very polished, fun, pixar-like experience that will excite and compel you to play forward.

As someone who has played every Ratchet & Clank game (except for the PSP games) and loved them all, I was quite disappointed by this latest game.

-Is it bad? Definitely not! The voice crew, plot, and dialogue are all, as usual, top notch.

-Is it not fun to play? Again, definitely not! The game is short, but is thoroughly enjoyable throughout.

-Is it ugly? Nope, absolutely beautiful in 1080P.

-Are the controls difficult? As usual, they're amazing.

-Are you confused, unless you bought Quest for Booty? Nope, the important parts are described at the opening then.

So, what IS the problem then?

-Gameplay is short. Clank's time puzzles with multiple selves are interesting little brain teasers. Other mini games for clank are dull. Ratchet is in full force again. The hoverboots are fun, it feels like Deadlocked again without Clank on your back for a good part of the game.

-The plot is way too obvious from the start. About a quarter into the game I immediately guessed who the "surprise" final boss would beand I was right. There are some small, minor twists I didn't see coming, but overall, it was easy to discern most of the plot.

-Without spoiling anything, the ending feels half baked. A big question/issue isn't resolved.

-The game feels unfinished. Ratchet was practically amphibious in previous games, he can't swim at all in this one. Where are the Leviathan souls? This game never mentions them. There are numerous aspects of this game that feel unfinished. And the worst part is they created a planet (the Insomniac Museum) to show you all of the amazing stuff they cut out. Pretty much every description is followed by "But we had to rush to get the game out, so we cut it out".

Overall?

If you're a die hard fan and you haven't bought it already, you're going to crack anyways. Just buy it. You'll enjoy it.

If you can wait, I would wait for the price to go downfor the length of the game, it's hard to recommend.

If you've never played Ratchet & Clank before, buy Tools of Destruction first (if you own a PS3) or Going Commando/Up Your Arsenal for the PS2. All of them are greatest hits games and should retail for under $30.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time is a phenomenal game which is leaps and bounds above Tools Of Destruction...which is quite impressive because the first in the "Future" trilogy of Ratchet & Clank was no slouch of a game.

The controls are easy, the camera (although sometimes having a mind of its own)complements and follows play smoothly, and the sound (my biggest gripe with ToD and QfB) is fantastic.

The graphics are much improved (may sound odd...seeing as the graphics are purposely cartoony) to the point you can see individual Lombax hairs and subtle changes in the shape of faces for expression. So far (two stages in) I'm missing the comedy bad guys that were present (yet still effectively tyrannical) in the prior two episodes. I will, however, admit to one giggle-worthy moment from Dr. Nefarious.

The weapons and gadgets (still have a TON to get) are truly original all over again and massively fun to use in the creation of explosions and wanton destruction around Ratchet. What is there not to love about a genetically enhanced belching reptile with a hair trigger?

Side missions with Clank still feel a little...meh...but it's good to follow his side of the story and is a welcome break after joining Ratchet in narrowly avoiding death 62 and 1/3 times. Clank has his own brand of humor that works...but works better when combined with a certain wrench-wielding, sarcastic Lombax.

There has been an element of...almost non-linear gameplay added which I have fallen absolutely in love with. I can get to the story when I want and have fun things to do on the side (with very pleasurable rewards) to build me up for story missions.

The radio is a rather creative addition. I keep going back to the techno-trance station while cracking heads and cooking threads with 'ol Mr. Zircon and his smack-talking self while jetting around moons and asteroids in search of bonuses on my jet boots.

I'm rambling now so I will end here by saying that Insomniac has, once again, produced a real gem. Hilarious, action-packed, and a welcome addition to any gamer's library. I wouldn't rent this one or wait for it used, folks...there's fun to be had RIGHT NOW and you shouldn't be missing out.

I'm already hoping for the next R&C game that will have to work to make it above an even higher bar set by Crack In Time.

I wasn't honestly excited about this game when I picked it up. How many Ratchet and Clank experiences can a person be expected to take in, after all? While I love the series, the last thing I wanted was more of the same. Luckily this entry introduces some ingenious elements into the gameplay. If you played any earlier R&C games, you probably loathe the idea of playing as Clank, with no Ratchet. And it looks as though the developers have grown wise to that bit of truth. Clank may be a great addition to Ratchet's back, but he's just a bore on his own. At least he was before this game. Here you have a Clank who can use bombs to slow time and use recorded clones of himself to progress through challenges. This gives the title a great amount of real puzzle action. Clank also has some great shooter-type challenges here as well. You will look forward to playing with him in this game. The ability to travel through open space and take on side challenges was a great addition too. Even Ratchet has been given new abilities that make this a truly original platforming experience. The numerous ways in which you can customize weapons almost makes this game too good to be true. The series has always been focused on great platforming, wicked weapons, and the best stories you'll find in the gaming world. A Crack In Time is no exception. My only real complaint here is that a few of the weapons aren't as memorable and don't control as well as they did in Up Your Arsenal. But Insomniac doesn't seem interested in making carbon copies of its older games, so we may never see weapon control capabilities that strong again. Regardless, it's a very minor complaint. The combat still controls ages better than other platforming games I've played. There's lots of replay value here, the game is enjoyable for people of all ages, and the platinum trophy wasn't that difficult to obtain. This is one of the best games available on any system.

this is the first of the soul calibur games that i own...i only got this version because you can play as DARTH VADER..How cool is that ! the graphics/enviroments are stunning to say the least and shine on the ps3..the gameplay is fast and intense.. sure the storyline might be weak but this is a fighting game..so ill let that slide...

i know some people that have the xbox360 version with yoda..which is great and all but for some reason the ps3 version is a bit superior.. sure people might gripe because you can kick everybodys butt as vader..sure its true but there are moves you can master as well ..also there is another little surprise you can also unlock vader's secret apprentice from the force unleashed games also.. nice bonus.. but going up against him in arcade mode is a pain..

soul calibur 4 is a great addition to your ps3 library..i found this on sale for 10 bucks brand new..not a bad deal..

I tend to hear people call this particular Soul Calibur the worst, that the combat is poor or lacking, that the additions from III are negligible or worsen the experience. I'm not a particularly hardcore fighting game player so perhaps I don't know as well as others, but for the most part, I find this the second best title in the series gameplay wise after II. So... well, I'd recommend this title before Soulcalibur V to anyone who isn't just interested in the Create a Soul mode. Even then, while not as robust as V's, IV's is serviceable enough to create some very interesting characters.

Is a good game to play, it is similar to the soul calibur 2 game i owned. A lot of the old characters still have the same moves with a couple of new ones. If you like this kind of fighting style then this game if for you. Don't buy this if u are into mortal kombat, marvel vs capcom kind of fighting. This is a little more confusing on the move list and not a lot of chain combos.

I always get really bored of fighting games, but I love the detail that goes into the Soul Calibur series. I like the character customization and all of the unlockables. Another good story mode and bonus characters. I just personally get bored of these games after a while and pick it up a month later or so. I'm more of a FPS/Platformer/Racing gamer.

I bought the product because it was VERY cheap, when I got the controller I was expecting something that slightly resembled the feel and look of the playstation 3 controller I already owned. When I unboxed it I was slightly disappointed but I decided to try it out. I started up a game and immediately noticed the friction on the sticks. I thought that it may be an ok thing then I tried to sprint using L3 and it didn't work. I tried 20 more times and I only got it to work 4 times. Overall I am disappointed even for 16 dollars this was seriously a piece of s***.

I got my controller today and I knew it wasn't named brand which didn't bother me. It synced flawlessly and played well for 20 minutes then froze. I wouldn't recommend this To anyone. I hope anyone who wants to make this purchase first reads the reviews. I'm not sure which is worst, the product or the sub par service from"Seller1on1". I immediately returned this product once it arrived. What bothers me the most is, the seller asked that I remove my negative feedback! If you research the seller, they seem to have 5 stars. Apparently they are bribing consumers with $5 credits to remove their feedback.

I realize that this isn't a true product review and belongs on the shippers page, but I'd like anyone who,is thinking if buying this to be aware.

the biggest selling points for me were: tracklisting, instrument quality, and downloadable content. I would normally just go and buy the new guitar hero game, but how can i do that when rock band 2 has songs like "Aqualung" by jethro tull and "Spirit in the Sky" by norman greenbaum along with hundreds of other downloadable songs. I've already bought the metallica, oasis, and classic rock track packs!

Instrument quality was the second selling point. Although it's cool looking to have the cymbals ala GH:WT drums, you get the more STABLE bass pedal with Rock Band 2 drums because of how it sits on a horizontal bar. The GH:WT pedal has reportedly slid on uncarpeted floors, or flipped sideways. The RB2 drums, are as SILENT as it can get and they are VERY sturdy.

The last deciding factor for me was the downloadable content. By years end, there will be about 500 downloadable songs on the playstation network. If you like Rush, oasis, megadeth, metallica, blondie, lynyrd skynyrd, etc. then Rock Band 2 is for you. Also, the software itself is just PLAIN FUN! to play through. You unlock songs by earning cash, fans, and hiring staff. The customizability of the characters is also tremendous, to the point where you can change eye colors! I hope this review helps, and don't pass up a fantastic game!

In case it was still in doubt, your RB1 instruments will all work with RB2 and they work well! Not to mention my GH:WT instruments all work with RB2 and work well!

I own both GH:WT and RB2 and RockBand 2 wins round 1 and here is why:

amount of songs I can play is double on RB2: I usually play when friends come over and time and time again we choose RB2 simply b/c you can play and pick from soo many more songs with the inclusion of all my RB1 songs and downloadable content as well. GH:WT makes you re-insert any old GH disc if you want to play songs from previous discs.

song search criteria in RB2 is way better: not only can you search for songs by title, artist or difficulty but now RB2 also allows you to search for songs by decade(70s, 80s, etc) and genre(alternative, classic rock, etc.) Very polished and easy to find any song from the 100s you might have. GH:WT only has one option and that is by song title.

ability to save band members: since i usually play when friends are over the ability to "save" my beginner band members is crucial since a lot of times they are just learning how to play and want to have fun with it. GH:WT will automatically fail the whole band out if one band member fails...there is no option to change this. This is not very good when friend or family are over and want to just have fun playing with you.

RB2 has drum solo sections and song ending solos which are fun: to achieve starpower on drums in RB2 you simply hit the last note of randomly inserted drum solo sections...which i enjoy!! You can go wild during the solo sections and do whatever you want as long as you hit the last note. GH:WT has no designated drum solo sections or song ending band solo sections. In addition GH:WT makes you hit the two symbals(two center drum pads) to trigger starpower. It might be me but it is nearly impossible to pull this off in the middle of a fast paced song.

RB2 has ps3 trophies and GW:WT does not! Rock Band 2 offers about 40 ps3 trophies to unlock via challenges and GH:WT offers none =/

When it comes down to it both RB2 and GH:WT are very similar and both work as advertised however after months of owning both the winner goes to the one I play almost exclusively now for the reasons i have listed above. Cheers for RB2 continuing to add to my music collection.

We bought this game and Rock Band (1) after buying GH: World Tour basically to have more/different songs. The songs are a lot of fun to play. I like the note layout, especially on the drums. It's a bit more intuitive than GH4. I didn't care as much for the gig structure of the game. There are single-song gigs, and those unlock multi-song gigs where you select the songs. But because you can only select unlocked (already played) songs for these sets, you sometimes have to play some songs twice in order to proceed and unlock new venues or songs. That's how a band has to do it in real life, so I can't argue with it, but I'd rather replay some of the songs at my own pace.

I play this game with the GH4 hardware, and on the PS3, it *does* work.

Note to thise who own both RB2 and Rock Band (1):

If you have the GH4 hardware on the PS3, you've no doubt noticed that the GH4 drums won't work with the original Rock Band. To resolve this, all you have to do is go to the playstation store and purchase the song export key for $5. Export the songs from Rock Band to your HD, and then they are all unlocked and playable (on the drums!) in Rock Band 2. This was a great help for those sets I mentioned earlier, because now instead of only being able to choose unlocked songs from RB2, I also had the RB1 library to choose from to compile a set. What fun!

I LOVE this game! I am a 44 YO SAHM and I totally love this game. The music is fun and brings back good memories! I like that I can sing with the artists. I especially like that most of the songs are originals. Some aren't and they are real close, but some are WAY off. No worries there is maybe 2-3 of those. I don't care at all for the guitar. I am not a player, but my DH is and even he has trouble. We have had this game on a Wii Platform and the PS3 Platform and the guitar is no different on either. The drums are wonderful, I think they are better on the new version. We sold our Wii version and bought the PS3 RB2. Much better graphics this time around. When I wanna rock, this is where I get to do it and all of my family is happy with that. My 5 YO daughter loves it when mama says "I wanna rock". She will ask me if I am ready to rock...lol! The good thing about this too is that she gets to learn some of my music that I grew up on. My DH is even learning some rock too! Check it out! You will be happy!!!

ModNation Racers seeks to do what no other kart racer has done; allow unlimited customization and involve a community to be creative and share their ideas. While it's similar to LittleBigPlanet because of the "Race, Create, Share" tag that Sony and United Front Games have put onto this title, I feel that it expands on this idea even further than Media Molecule's hit. The controls and interface a simple to navigate and the developer went to great lengths to personalize the experience with ModNation Racers.

Everything you do within the game occurs in the ModSpot. A central hub where about 5 other players (when you're online) will congregate and you can see them drive around. There are all kinds of things to do in the ModSpot. Here you have access to the races, including Online, Online Split-Screen (up to 2 players split-screen), Offline Split-Screen (up to 4 players split-screen) and the Career Mode.

The Online racing experience is pretty smooth. Players can join a random match, or they can host matches with their friends, or just for other players to join. You can choose to race with "XP Mode" where your online profile will gain XP to rank up among other players. The competition is pretty intense though, so make sure you're familiar with how to handle the karts before heading to this mode. If you're not in the "XP" mood, you can just race casually for fun. All of your stats from races are tracked to your profile, and you can see the stats for each track that you've raced on as well.

Driving karts is a breeze. I equate this something slightly more complicated than Mario Kart 64. You accelerate and brake, fire weapons after picking up the powerups, and you *absolutely* must learn how to drift. Pressing and holding the 'X' button allows you to perform a drift around corners which fills a boost meter on the side of the screen. The boost meter is used for sideswiping opponents, boosting your speed, or using the shield equipped to your kart. It will take a lot of practice to get the timing down on your shield as it only lasts a few seconds with a full meter of boost, but it can make the difference between placing 1st and getting blown away at the last second of the final lap. Weapons come in 3 different styles: Missiles, Lightning and Sonic attacks. Each powerup can be upgraded up to 3 times. Stage 1 attacks are pretty light and can only hit 1 car (the Sonic level 1 weapon has a pulse discharged from around the car so it could potentially hit multiple enemies), Stage 2 attacks will hit 2 to 3 racers in front of you, and level 3 attacks can knock everyone out (think 'Blue Shell' from Mario Kart) if you manage to fire it from last place. It can be difficult to do this though, as if you are hit with a weapon, you will lose your current weapon and have to pick up a new powerup. Weapons appear to be random too, just like other kart racers.

So far, it sounds like a pretty good game right? Well, it is; the only catch is that with each thing that you do in this game, you might as well take a bathroom break or go fix a sandwich, because you will literally be waiting over a minute for some of the tracks to load. Not that this is a game-breaking deal for me though, the developer has stated that they will be patching the game to reduce load times which will be a well-liked feature when it is finally released.

The Career mode pits you the player against 25 different courses with challenges and shortcuts littered throughout the courses. It will probably take you a few tries to beat each track, especially since there are "achievements" within each track to unlock new items used in the Creation Studios. You will likely want to collect all of these, as the creation tools expand exponentially every time you add a new item to your creative pallet. Some of these challenges are "Grudge Matches", where after defeating an opponent on the track AND finishing 1st place, that opponent will challenge you 1-on-1 for the right to use their mod in the game. These matches are TOUGH, and you will need to be an expert at the course and handling your kart if you even are going to stand a fighting chance at beating these. Also littered on each course are tokens that can be used to purchase new items in the Shop, which is located in the ModSpot and the Creation Studio.

Now for the cream of the crop: the Creation Studio. Everyone has likely been comparing this game to Little Big Planet because of the customization you can do. In my opinion, this allows way more customization of your character than LittleBigPlanet. Through the use of unlocked accessories, hair pieces, clothing, shoes, gloves, hats, eyes, ears, noses, mouths, etc. you have the option to make your character as strange or awesome as you see fit! After putting the body together, you can change the color of anything you place on your mod, including different styles (which can be tweaked with a full color wheel) that can be unlocked. The color system is something that I tremendously applaud for this game. Anytime you place an object on your mod, or use something of a certain color, that color is added to either of the "Mod Colors", or "Kart Colors", so you can easily match colors and set things up just the way you want quickly and easily. It's so easy I was able to create look-alike characters from TV shows and movies within just a few minutes. There also is an aspect of stickers for the creation studios where you can layer and tweak each and every sticker that you want to put on your mod. From shapes, letters, numbers and other decals like flames, etc. you can dream up your imagination and put it on your mod or kart. Then you can resize, rotate, skew, cut, copy, layer and repaste your sticker designs on other parts of your mod or kart and even save them as sticker sets to use again later.

Each portion of the Creation Studio is divided into sub-menus which are not too complicated, but you will need more than just the game's instruction manual to become a master. UFG really did an excellent job with the creators, allowing simple creation, or really advanced creation. Each part you put on your mod or kart can be left as is when it first goes on, or you can dive into the deep customization abilities to create something so genuine that only you could create it. The L2 and R2 buttons are used to move to the next "area" of that specific menu, and the L1 button is usually reserved for advanced / basic edit toggling. The triangle button is typically the color option, whereby a color wheel can be viewed by pressing triangle again. Once you get the system under your belt you'll be amazed at the creations that you can come up with in ModNation Racers.

To top it off, you can then select your mods and karts that you have created, OR downloaded to race with friends and online/offline. That's right. Upload your creations to the PlayStation Network, and let other people download them. You can also allow players to "remix" your creation, where they will edit your creation and then re-upload it to the PSN. You still get the "creator" credit, and they get the remix credit. This system is absolutely solid, and it works extremely well. The Share spot of ModNation Racers is really easy to use and the developers took care to make sure that the karts, mods and tracks people create would be easy to find and download. There's an area for "Most Downloaded", "Most Raced", "Newest", or you can search by keywords which are used to describe your creation when you publish it.

The Track Studio is the only creator I haven't talked about. It's massive, and incredibly deep. Choose from 1 of 4 themes for your track and you drive a steam-roller to pave your track. You can create a simple loop, or you can go back and add monster jumps, bridges, tunnels, bank the road, make it narrow, add road hazards like construction barrels, crates, even rotating platforms. I could literally write a whole review on just this editor. It is that deep. You can change the elements and the direction that the sun shines, level of the water, and the type of road you will drive on. You can also create shortcuts, forks in the road, and add boost pads and weapons. Just like in LittleBigPlanet, all of the tracks in the career mode were made using the Track Studio. It's just incredible.

I played this game for literally 7 hours straight and I could not stop playing. It is FUN to play, and the community's imagination will blow you away. I saw downright amazing mods that looked like Mario, Iron Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, and even the Master Chief from Halo. Over the coming months players will upload unlimited content to choose from, and race from. If you don't like what other players do, create your own! It's that easy. Oh, and if you're worried about creating a super-looking track that people would actually want to play, you can just Auto-Populate your track in the editor which automatically adds scenery and gameplay items to the track so it looks like it took hours to make, when in reality it was only mere minutes.

I've waited a long time for a game like this to surface. Finally we have something on the PS3 which rivals the greatest kart racers of all time. Long load times will be fixed down the road, but the next generation of kart racing is here. If you're skeptical about your purchase, download the demo off the PSN. Trust me though when I say, if you buy this game, you will NOT be disappointed.

Modnation Racers is the newest Kart Racing game in the Genre, and in my opinion, it is way ahead of the competition. Of course, this game is being compared to Mario Kart. Having never played the newest Mario Kart for Wii, I can't really compare the two much. I have, although played the older Mario Kart, and if the Wii version is nearly the same, I believe Modnation Racers tops it.

The Good: Modnation Racers is the kind of game that anybody can enjoy. The Track, Mod, and Kart creator are super simple and it has loads of different hairstyles, clothes, shoes, stickers, accessories, etc. I can easily see this having a huge library of user created content just like LittleBigPlanet. When you start the game, you automatically are entered into the MRC Qualifiers race and after a brief introduction you are taken to the ModSpot. Here is where everything happens on Modnation Racers, such as entering Online races, Split Screen, and Career races. There is also an area where Top Mods and Karts are displayed. I've seen mods of Mario, Spider-Man, Iron-Man, Joker, and many more. With this many mods in just a few days, I'm positive there will be a TON of amazing mods in weeks. Other players connected to the PSN are also in the same ModSpot as you and can just ride around drifting or just simply enter one of the areas in the ModSpot.

The controls are also great. Drifting is easy and insanely addicting. When racing an Action Race, collect pods and you receive weapons. If you're tired of getting blown up, select Pure Race. Before you enter a race in the Career Mode, there is a little cinematic, sometimes with these two Hosts, or with you and your mechanic. These cinematics are filled with humor to give you a laugh or two before a race.

The Bad: The load and install times on this game can get ridiculously long. Though it's not something to keep you away from the game, sometimes you'll just want to jump into a race but have to wait almost an entire minute to begin. Mic support is a good feature, but I wish there wasn't so many people cursing and talking crap through their headsets, but there isn't really a way to fix that. Other than those two things listed, there really isn't much I've run into that is degrading to the game. *One more bad I ran into recently is that it takes forever to start up an XP race, which is what gives you the chance to progress on the Multiplayer side of Modnation. I'm not sure if people just don't know their way around the menus, or they all want to just race casually. Although it's a little disappointing as of now, I'm positive that in a short amount of time there will be much more people on the XP races*

Overall, in just a few days that people have had the game, there has been some really neat creations coming from the community. Hopefully in the future, there will be an update to help the load times.

All PS3 owners, GET THIS... or at least try it. :)

Lets make one thing clear right off: if you liked LittleBigPlanet and you like Mario Kart and other cart racers... stop reading and buy this game now!

Especially at the current price listed on Amazon (plus 10$ credit) which leads me to beleive its not selling well becasue people are hesitant, I can understadn that, so was I but a little preorder premotion and I thought "what the heck?" and I'm glad I made the plunge even at full fair (I got my Ratchet and Clank Mods for it so I'm happy)

That said, this game really surprised me, as I said before this was somethign of an impulse for me, I enjoyed the demo well enough for waht it was, but what really pushed me over the top was the preorder R+C mods, they get me every time :)

The first thing that I was surprised by was the imediate plunge into a rather enjoyable story including cutscenes which for some reason I did not expect at all. The story is somethign of a remix between Pixar's Cars, Days of Thudner, and Talldega Nights, and althoug the influence is storng, it has its own twist and flavor coupled with fantastic voice acting, the results are gold. The two announcers really steal the show, which is good becasue you'll be listening to alot of them, they have yet to get repetitive for me but its only been a day.

The racing, which i enjoyed in the demo, was not done justice by said demo. its great, drifting is much easier to pull off than Mario Kart, even the wii iteration which is incredibly drift friendly. But thats part-in-parcell with the MNR attitude, drifting is easiy and FUN, boosts are plentiful, jumps are abundant and weapons are thouroughly satisfying (you might remember soem of them from Mario Kart, adn the rest from wipeout ;) )

Right away I was amazed with the user creations in Character Mods, Kart Mods, and Courses. I'll save discusion of coruses for one paragraph. The Mods peopel have made are AMAZING considering its day one. It's definately a diparture from the LBP attitude where Sackboy retained his likness no mattter what making certain customues something of a technical feat. In MRC the tools are much more robust, and the result is (among other's) and Iron MAn that you'd swear was designed in Maya as opposed to in-game. KArts are the same thing, I'm currently racing around on a perfect replica of the A-team van, how awesome?

Course creation is ABSURDLY easy, another departure from LBP. I made two courses in barely 20 minutes total which I'm sure would impress my friends, but when you sample soem of the things created by a truely dedicated player, well the results speak for themselves.

Unfortunately this leads me into the only bad... they did a great job which this hub world where other onlien palyers race around with you, very reminiscant of Home, but its pretty hard to get into an online game as it stands. I wasn't feling very patient so I din't bother wating around for peopel to join me, especailly as they would enevitably be strangers. Unfortuantely none of my freinds have purchased this game which might make a difference but if you liek me, most likly alone in your friend group on you interest in this game, you might find getting into an actual online race a bit of a pain. this combined with soem rather cumbersome loading times is a bit of a stumblign block on what is otherwise non-stop fun. But on the other hand the ability to access other peoples content on you own time is incredibly easiy, with fantastic AI on nonplayer opponents, adn a time trail mode which allows you to feel like your part of a larger comunnity without hte hassle of finding any of them to race with you.

And the single palyer circuit is fantastic! That alone will keep me happy for hours I'm sure.

All in all, this game is a great Kart racer, with very robust user creation tools and a well thoughout and setup infastructure for sahring them, clearly United Front Games learned from LBP in this regard. But for a game which is so clearly ment for online play its a bit difficult to get into a gme and more importantly share a game with others. To be fair, some of this is equation has to do with the ammount of user's, but it felt like I only had access to one game option when I tried to join, whcih was empty, an no one joined my hosted games, its hard to say why, it jsut was. I will edit if this experience drmatically changes. But also the laod times are a bit logner then we have coem to expect, I've heard a patch is comming but this game was day one patched as well...

But I don't want to end on hat note because this game really blew my mind in all the right ways and if you have an interest in the genre then its a steal at full price let alone what its listed on Amazon. You will not be sorry you picked up this little gem. Obviously thsoe who dislike Kart Racing games need not aply.

P.S. for the record I own and LOVE Mario Kart Wii, this game is not a MK killer, but its worthy to be right up there with it.

To start off with, the game play of this title is Fun with a capital F. Think Mario Kart on steroids. The user created content that you can download is unbelievable. I am amazed by the artistic ability of people. But by now, you've read the other reviews about the game play , etc etc, so I will not go into the details just to beat a dead horse.

For me, as much fun and original as this game is, I find myself thinking about returning it to Game Stop or simply selling it on eBay.

One of the features that was in Mario Kart which I absolutely loved and would be game-breaking without, was the different "cup" series. Each MK cup series had its own difficulties based on tracks and opponents. MNR does not have a single player version. There is a multi player mini-series (if can really call it that), where you can play 5 tracks in succession. That's fine and dandy except I don't think I've finished a singles series. Maybe got through two or three races before the other players dropped.

The career mode was very hard and I'm not knocking it at all, but I would have liked it a lot better had they included a true championship mode (even if you need to unlock it somehow) where you can race some/all the tracks in a series against the elite CPU drivers that you faced in the career mode storyline; a series that would tally points for you and the computer, based on your finishing position of each race and let you race all the tracks and give a 'Champion' at the end. What you are given instead, is a career mode angled toward the user created content. Most of your unlocks during the play through are for cosmetic tools and graphics for your track/mod/kart creations down the line. Also, once you go through the career mode and go back and run a previous race in it...it still splashes the same cut scenes you already encountered at the same points. In fact, if you re-race a track in career mode, you actually unlock the same items you've already unlocked. I'm not sure why they even called it a "Career Mode", it should have been titled "Story Mode". Even though they do include some rudimentary stats for your 'offline' play, there really is no offline career to be had. All career-"centric" play time is centered on the online-multi player scene.

And currently the online multiplayer piece of this game is lacking. Most of the time, you enter an online race and you are the first one in the lobby. It could easily take 5-10 minutes to get enough players (4) to start a race. If you are lucky, those players will stick around for another race afterwards. If not, it starts from square one, with you waiting for other players to join.

I am sure, without a doubt, that the load times for the races and the multi player aspect of the game will be fixed with future patches and I don't have a problem waiting for it; my main beef is not having the single player option to run a series as it completely ruins the re-playability of MNR for me. So all in all, if you are into creativity and multi-player racing is your thing, then this game is for you. As I said, with the glaring problems the game has in the online world, I have no doubt they are working on a fix and you should definitely go out and buy this title.

I've only owned ModNation Racers for a couple days, but I'm already absolutely certain this is the best kart racer ever made (sorry Mario Kart). This is, simply put, the LittleBigPlanet of racing games.

The base game and tracks are fun in themselves, but the real beauty here lies with all of the customization. Everything from your racer, your kart, to every little detail of the track you're making is fully customizable. You can choose to make your racer into somebody famous, or choose to make them into something totally outlandish. All the options and how to utilize them are easily learned, so much so that my kids were creating some pretty impressive things in almost no time at all. Even the track creator is amazingly simple to use, much more so than LittleBigPlanet's level creator.

The load times can get a bit tedious, but with how smooth the frame rates and overall gameplay are, it's well worth the wait. Replay value is tremendous, and the community is already loaded with user-created content to check out. This game is definitely kid friendly in almost all aspects, but if you let your kids play online I wouldn't recommend letting them wear a headset, as foul language is rampant and not moderated. That's not the game's fault though, it's pretty much the same with any other online-enabled game out there.

Overall, ModNation Racers is a great game, and I would highly recommend it for young and old alike.

I am a big fan of WWE games, not so much the show ever since I found out it was fake years ago in grade school. Anyways, the multiplayer was fun and so were some of the other modes. But road to wrestlemania was VERY CONFUSING at times. It should have arrows or something. For example it would say beat up the other player on the stage and then press the notification button. Not a problem, however by stage I thought they meant the ring because the actual stage part didn't even look like a stage really and many other people thought the same as well. So I spent the longest time trying until I decided to go online to look for a video walk through, and that helped me get through many moments where even more confusing than that. Otherwise this game was great and very fun!

I know most people out there have always wondered what would happen if Mario Kart and Need for Speed met and had a baby? Well folks, "Blur" would be the result. Imagine you are in a ZR1 (Corvette for the vehichluarly challenged) and first place is just out of reach. You probably tell yourself, "well...second place aint that bad". Now in Blur, second place is the least of your worries. At best, you got one car in front of you and 18 behind you. When I say MK, I don't mean Mortal Kombat, I mean Mario Kart, alright? You have shields (MK equivallent..Ghost which ironically, there is a perk that lets you convert attacks that hit you with your shield active to power-ups, but they dont steal them), mines (MK version of Green Turtle Shell...both forward and backwards firing), shunts (MK version of Red Turtle Shell)nitro (MK version of Mushrooms) The beauty about the nitro, if your team racing and you got some jackass behind you, fire the nitro backwards and airbrake (yes....AIRBRAKE) and have him slam into you, while your team flies past him to the finish, then it boosts you back up to speed. Gotta love it. Shock (MK version of Lightning...duh. Only thing is it doensn't shrink your opponents. It's more like the EMP you saw on "2Fast 2Furious". Then there is the Barge (NOTHING LIKE IT ON MARIO KART). If there are a couple jerks in front of you, hit the barge and kindly give them a nudge out of your way. I mean sure your running at 150+ MPH, but if they weren't driving so slow, they wouldn't be wrecked now would they? Unfortunately, there is no Blur version of the infamous Spikey Shell that owns everything until it reaches the unsavory victim who happens to be in 1st. Another thing about Blur, is the ranking system. Those that are familiar with the "challenges" from the last few COD games, will feel right at home. THERE IS NO PRESTIGING, so don't think you are gonna talk crap to ppl telling them to "get your gold cross, noob". Blur has various game types such as Team Racing, Hardcore Racing (with radar and HUD), Extreme Racing (No powerups to save those that cant drive) and my fav, Motor Mash. If you remember that game many MANY moons ago for Playstation called "Destruction Derby"? If you liked it, you will go Ape TIHS over this game. BOTTOM LINE, get the game and play. Its worth it

the campain is easy but i have it on easy. in the campain you have to get fan points to get new cars.

in diffrent levels you can do diffrent things for ex, level 3 you do mostly distructoidshoot,when you shoot light purple power and you try to hit other cars and get the most points you can. A HIT = CERTAIN MOUNT OF SECONDS AND POINTS.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to mix pokemon, yu-gi-oh, marbles, Mario Party mini-games and, ummm, jumping in rain puddles? No? Well, neither had anyone else until Bakugan came along.

Here's the basic premise: two monsters fight it out on a board, and the one with the higher HP wins. That's it. However, the process by which you get to this point is almost utterly incomprehensible, requiring you to build decks of cards, use sixaxis motion control, exploit certain field advantages, and even use a modicum of strategy. You see, before this battle even starts, you have to lay out certain cards on the field (called "gate cards"), and, by using a variety of motions on the sixaxis controller, you have to throw and steer your bakugan onto these cards. During this process, you can collect a number of power ups, depending on the battlefield, and can also be hit with certain status effects, etc. Once you land on a card, you can claim it in one of three ways...blah blah blah.

Here's the weird thing: despite the huge number of things you need to do to set up a battle, battles are remarkably repetitive. I mean, no matter the field element, no matter the rules, everything feels...pretty much the same. And ultimately, this is the downfall of Bakugan there isn't enough other stuff going on to break the monotony of these battles. I mean, no one will deny that pokemon is incredibly repetitive, battle-wise. Yet, you still have the ability to explore a world. In Bakugan, you are pretty much limited to four environments, two of which offer nothing but battles, one of which is a store, and the last one is your room. You don't actually move your character the environments are static, and you are offered choices (in your room, e.g., you can "change clothes," "check personal stats," "check rankings" and "save".).

Another problem with this game is that it is very, very easy. I have no problem making a game accessible to a younger audience (and since this game arises from a television cartoon series, it's clear that this is the target audience). But there is little to nothing even approaching strategy in this one. If you aren't strong enough, you just fight in the park against opponents until you can power up your creatures or deck. Even a poorly made deck can win a lot of battles (and since there are only 9 cards in a deck, three of which are the creatures you fight with, it's not so hard to figure out what's going on). You are already two tourneys into the game before the enemies even become normal difficulty.

There is a story in the game. It is completely forgettable.

There is one big plus: the cel-shaded graphics look quite nice. Pokemon should take a cue for its next outing on the Wii.

There is a kernel of a good idea here: this is one of the very, VERY few titles that the sixaxis controls actually improve (although I don't know if that's merely because everything is so repetitive). The weird mix of things to do is oddly charming, but it just never comes together. Sure, you can roll your bakugan around the arena collecting powerups, but why would you? Most battles can be won without them (particularly since the minigames power up your character incredibly, and you will ALWAYS beat the computer). As a multiplayer game, this might be OK. But I don't play multiplayer, and since it lacks an online component, most others won't, either.

I would say give this game a rental before you purchase it. That's probably all you'll need, anyway.

I bought this game knowing nothing about the series, other than the general idea of little toys with creatures in them. The game starts off with a tutorial which teaches you everything you need to know.

If you know nothing about Bakugan, like I did, and you are slightly interested in this, I would get it. The game is fun in many different ways. In a way I can see how people may think it's a tad repetitive, but there's so many different combinations of Bakugan and ability cards and gate cards that it makes it so easy to change it up and seem like new again.

If you are a fan of this Bakugan, like my brother, you should definitely buy this game. My little brother (15) loves the show and now loves the game since I bought it. He and I battle in the game all the time.

This game is very fun and addictive, and for such a low price it's almost a must buy. I bought it for $6-7 dollars, and that was money well spent. My only issue with the game was the way the graphics are designed. They do stay true to the tv show anime, but my seem a little childish at times. Nonetheless, an amazing game and I do not regret buying this game one bit!

I did not look closely enough before I bought because these are off brand products. They feel cheap and not as sturdy as the Sony products and you can feel stuff moving around inside when you are using them. The navigation controller only works when plugged directly into the PlayStation. Which defeats the purpose of it being wireless and makes it difficult to move around. Also makes it impossible to use in the Move Sharpshooter, which is the main reason I got it. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the motion controller actually works.

My son and I inadvertently switch between this MadCatz PS3 Wired Gamepad Controller and the Sony wireless one that came with the PS3. To us they are exactly the same, except of course that one is wireless and the other isn't. But that is what I wanted, something less expensive but the next best thing. The USB cable on the controller is a couple of inches over 8 feet, but that is fine we sit within this distance anyway. If I wanted to sit further I would just use a standard USB extension cable. I also like this controller because it is a direct USB connection to the PS3. It also has good vibration.

I four star rating is very accurate.

The controller isn't cheap, or cheaper than the ps3 remote.

it works well but the home button has many issues,

1. can't turn on the console

2. when you press it to access the home screen you can't press it again to turn off the home-screen.

Its just as sturdy as the ps3 remote, and although it feels different, its still easy to just pick up.

The controller can be a little over sensitive though but I really do recommend it as a back up controller

for which I bought it.

this is my first review, hope it's helpful (feel free to leave a comment and tell me what i did wrong/right). anyway, on with the amateur ramblings!

when i first saw the trailers for Borderlands a couple of months ago, i said to myself "that looks amazing (in both the graphical and gameplay departments), but it seems to be trying way too hard". i also thought it looked like what Fallout 3 would've been if it was a FPS with RPG elements as opposed to the RPG with FPS view that it is.

as a bit of side information, i got Killzone 2 a week ago and have been playing it nonstop. i've already beaten it twice and i've spent pretty much every waking moment (to my girlfriend's annoyance) playing the campaign or the multiplayer. when i woke up today there was a delivery on my stoop. i told myself i'd open up Borderlands first (i also bought Resistance 2 and a few old school PS1 games (FFIX!)) and play it til the first save or checkpoint. this was at 11am, i'm writing this review at 11:30pm and save for going to dinner with my friends and dropping my sister off at the dorms, i've played the entire time. this game is just that engrossing and sheer fun

i don't think i can explain exactly what makes Borderlands so fantastic... there's just something about it. reviews i had seen on a few sites said that it takes a while for the game to get going and that by the 10th hour or so it really starts to be fun. well, if the game gets much more fun than this, it will be close to my game of the year. everything about Borderlands oozes style and love (meaning you can just tell how much the developers cared about this project). the pacing of the game is fantastic, the difficulty is a little up there, but it works and is never frustrating. the controls are spot on as far as responsiveness, but some of the button mapping is a bit strange (who maps fire to L2? and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it). the AI is fantastic with weapon-based enemies finding anyplace they can to duck behind and fire for cover, while the dog like creatures just get right up in your face. this can be frustrating, but it really makes you feel good when you finally blast them away.

the RPG elements are just kinda... there. while i don't think they detract from the game, i also think that they could have been implemented differently without the overall game changing on a base level. that being said, Borderlands does a great job of Diablo style leveling-up. part of the reason i couldn't stop playing is cause you're ALWAYS building up your character in some small way. it's just incredibly addictive and fulfilling. the one minor nitpick that i can throw in here is having to press square every. single. time. you wanna pick up an item. you can hold it down to pick up multiple items that are very close to each other, but you'll be pressing square A LOT. i know tehre's some things you might not want, but you spend so much time in your inventory screen anyway, they may as well have made it so you just run over something to grab it.

Borderlands sells itself on the concept of it's "87 Bazillion Guns". i've heard real estimates that say there's at least a few hundred thousand and that sure seems to be true. you'll NEVER stumble on the same gun twice. it's both a good and bad thing. obviously it's fun to try out all sorts of different combinations, but a lot more often than you'd like, you'll wind up with a weapon that, while not useless, is just pretty lame and underpowered. when you do find that perfect sniper rifle that shoots lighting, has a 500-round clip and a 120x zoom (just as one of soooo many examples), it'll all be so very worthwhile.

the rest of my nitpicks, and by the way, that's all they are, cause i don't see a single legitimate big complaint with this game, would be as follows: while the game looks cool in it's own way, it think it's almost like a cop-out art style, maybe they didn't feel like doing textures or something. there's also severe framerate issues where you're in the middle of large battles. the vehicles, which make getting around so much easier,don't handle good at all and you get less Exp when you kill an enemy with your car as opposed to being on foot. i wish there were large online multiplayer deathmatches and CoF battles and the like. i'll have to check out the online "duels" at some point, see if they almost make up for that.

when you get right down to it though, this is just an amazing game all around. the graphics have a sheen and polish that not many games have (it's fun to see little HP numbers rolling off someone as you shoot them in the face). i still think Borderlands is trying a bit too hard to be "cool" in the way a Tarentino or Guy Ritchie movie would be, but it just works anyway (much like a Guy Ritchie movie haha). in the end there's just something about Borderlands, some intangible quality, that makes it such a worthwhile experience. i haven't played the online co-op yet, so i can't speak to that, but the single player is one hell of a ride. the areas might all look a tad samey, there's only four character classes to choose from. the driving physics are pretty bad and there's not much variety in your enemies. thing is, none of that matters, Borderlands is amazing in spite of all of it's very minor flaws.

if you've ever liked an FPS, if you've ever liked level-up-fests like Diablo, etc, hell, even if you wanted more action from Fallout 3, you owe it to yourself to at least give Borderlands a chance. this, along with Killzone 2, BlazBlue, Uncharted 2, Dirt 2 (and i can only assume the new Ratchet and Clank game) is one of the top 5 best games of 2009. there's a damn good chance that this game is considerably better than any other videogame you're looking to get on Amazon... pick Borderlands immediately. you won't be let down.

This game is very fun to play online! I think the single player option is nice but not the true way the game was meant to play. Its easy to pick this game up and run through a couple quests in half an hour or even join on someone else's game. the action is great and if you minimize travel time between action can be rather short. cars are fun and the addition of challenges make for a fun addition to the game. The four classes are a nice idea but the ability to develop their skill trees differently give these classes more variability.

The mods for the grenades and class skills are excellently done. Also the ability to level up in weapon skills prevents any class from being limited in weapon choice. This game has many layers to it that keep it more fresh than other MMO-type games.

i would recommend it to anyone that liked Diablo/Diablo II's action/RPG elements. The First person shooter element of this game is great!

Borderlands is a heck of a lot of fun. As a guy who has played a lot of post-apocalyptic games (yes, including Wasteland/Fallout -> Fallout 3), I have to admit that Borderlands hits that nice sweet spot between pure FPS and pure RPG. In Borderlands, you pick one of four characters and get to go for a romp in a fun quasi-post apocalyptic wasteland that is part Mad Max and part Pitch Black. Basically, you are on a different planet that is a rough and tumble outback world filled with nasty aliens, rogue humans, and lots of gunfights. It's a good time.

Borderlands is not as much an RPG as Fallout 3, for example -your character is more of a Diablo style with skill trees rather than fully customizable. Quests are also less elaborate, and a bit more on rails with areas unlocking for exploration only as you advance the plot. Borderlands also reminds one of Mass Effect for its combat heavy emphasis and shield technology, but let's get down to some specifics:

1) Guns, guns, guns. I knew Borderlands was hyping its "17 trillion guns" bit, but didn't realize quite how awesome this would be until I really got into it. It really is amazing how varied the weaponry is. With just a 20th level character, I've already found sniper rifles that launch explosive rounds, rocket launchers that set everything on fire in a 10 foot radius, scoped shotguns that put 8 slugs in a tight circle on target from 200 meters away, SMGs that fire 4 shots at a time and electrocute the target, and everything in between. A good gun can really make a difference in a fight, such as finding a strong sniper rifle early, or getting a machine gun with a +60 round magazine that lets you walk up to someone and put a hundred rounds into their face. Sometimes enemies drop guns, but more often you'll find yourself giddy as you open a sealed gun case and see a gleaming new rifle. Really addictive.

2) Weapon proficiencies. Instead of putting points into weapons skills as you level up, you gain bonuses for them the more you use them. This is more realistic and a lot more fun, since it gives you a way to reinforce your powers through use. Clearing a few caves with a shotgun will quickly net you added weapon bonuses that really pay off. Separately you can also (starting at level 5) put points into your skill trees, so you can get some nice cumulative overlap.

3) Second wind. One great concept is the "second wind" -when you get KO'd, you get a few seconds to kill one of your foes and get a "second wind" that pops you back onto your feet. This is particularly nice when you get overrun by mutant dogs or flying enemies without warning. In a number of fights, I killed nearly every foe only to have the last couple take me down at close range. With a second wind, you manage to survive -and it is extremely gratifying.

4) Level resets. One nice feature is that quitting and reloading the game resets all the areas, so you can farm areas repeatedly for EXP, different guns, and the like. This lets you level up if you are having problems, make money, and get those weapons you wanted.

Now, a few negatives:

1) No armor. Your character gets a wide array of selections between guns, grenades, and shield generators. However, there is no other armor in the game. This seems like a big oversight and cuts into the customizability of your character a fair amount. It would be nice to have slightly less guns in exchange for boots, gloves, helmets etc.

2) Level-specific foes. Enemies have a high respawn rate and scale somewhat based on your level. This usually works fine, although you will face a lot of dangerous and accurate enemies. One problem however is that you seem to do less damage against higher level enemies. In particular, if a foe is much stronger than you, your weapons do almost no damage, while theirs will destroy you. This might be an effort to keep your level growth under control, but you usually find out through trial and error. I had a character go up a level in the middle of a fight, and he went from doing 20 damage to some high level raiders to doing over 100. It was pretty strange.

3) The graphics in the game are interesting and appealing, but there are some unfortunate bug effects. Despite a nice strong jumping ability, it is possible to get stuck in the terrain, which can also effect enemies. NPC scripts can sometimes get broken if interrupted by fights or the like, usually requiring a reload (for example, I've had that little droid from the start of the game freeze up a few times, meaning you can't get through a gate and the game is basically broken).

4) There are vehicles you can drive around in, which is another nice feature. They also make good heavy weapons platforms if you are having problems with higher level monsters. However they are also a little buggy -I had one simply blow up for no reason (and with full shields), and another get stuck on some rocks that wouldn't let me exit and required a reload. And reloads take forever.

All in all, Borderlands is a fun game with much to recommend itself. Popping people with a sniper rifle and then cleaning up with a shotgun or assault rifle is a simple joy that is endlessly repeated. If you're looking for a FPS with character development, or an RPG with lots of fighting, this is your game.

If you could only describe a game in one word, that word would be "insane." I've just stayed up till 7:30am and it was all worth it. It's like Killzone2 frantic and the RPG elements of the first Baulder's Gate on PS2. I'm a level 28 soldier. Now the weapons are insane, I've had a shotgun that shot rockets, an SMG with explosive rounds, an SMG with a four spread shot so each round is four projectiles, a heavy machine gun with fire rounds, and a revolver with 303 damage and zoom scope (meaning it's my sniper rifle for medium range, HAND CANNON!). The only thing that sucks is if you have a rocket launcher it has no hit detection (if you think your going to hit a target aim at the ground at its feet, its the only way to cause damage, GEARBOX please send us all a patch!).

Other than that, see you on the Pandora on PS3.

When I first heard of the concept behind Borderlands I immediately got excited about the prospect of playing a cooperative Role-Playing-Game online with a good friend. In the gaming press more than one passing comparison was made between Borderlands and Diablo, "Diablo with guns!" was one term used. Being a huge fan of Diablo my anticipation for Borderlands only grew.

As soon as the game was released a good friend and I purchased our copies and jumped online for some co-op goodness. For the first 4-6 hours I loved Borderlands but after that the shortcomings started becoming more and more apparent.

I guess the most major issue I have with this game is that there is a paper-thin story. This is something that may not bother some but being a fan of RPGs it most definitely bothered me. You'll find yourself in the role of one of four selectable mercenaries on a remote planet called Pandora. Pandora in essence is a horrible place to live and was only colonized in order to mine mineral deposits. It's soon discovered that there's very little of value on the planet and most settlers with the means to do so simply leave the planet. Those that are left eek out a living Mad Max style. Bandits run amok in the Wasteland as do feral creatures known as Skaggs and a few more enemy types.

There are some alien ruins which rumor has it hold some sort of incredible power. That's why you find yourself on Pandora, investigating those alien ruins. Each of the four characters specializes in different things. Mordocai is a "hunter" class character who specializes in sniper rifles and best suited to engaging enemies from afar. Brick is a "berserker" and serves as the games tank character specializing in close range combat. Lilith is a "siren" and the games only female character. Her specialty is small arms and speed. Finally, Roland is the games "soldier" class specializing in machine guns. Each character also features a special ability Mordecai for example can use his pet eagle, Bloodwing to attack enemies. Roland can deploy a shielded sentry turret for taking down swarms of bad guys. Each character features their own skill trees and as you level up you can assign points in the skill tree to increase damage, accuracy, gain new abilities and inflict elemental damage. The upgrade system is pretty generic stuff that has been done in games before. The main problem with the characters and leveling system is that eventually every character feels exactly the same outside of their respective special attacks. So while you may start out playing Mordecai as a sniper, you'll eventually discover that he's just as good using a machine gun, rocket launcher or revolver.

That leads to other problems with the game. Because every class is a jack of all trades, playing online devolves into mindless shoot everything as fast as you can matches. Also because Borderlands doesn't feature much of a storyline and relies heavily on sidequests much of the game becomes a mindless shooting gallery. Go to town `X', speak with character `Y', go to location `Z' and retrieve `item q'. Rinse and repeat over and over and over again. It's mindless and while initially fun it gets old quick.

There are boss battles in the game which could've been so much more. The boss battles are ultimately mindless, run backward while blasting away affairs. It's funny that a gameplay mechanic perfected in Doom so many years ago is still being used in modern games like Borderlands.

The other much touted element of Borderlands that was much touted before release is the looting. Spread everywhere throughout the game is chests containing various types of guns and modifiers for your guns. The problem is that 99% of the stuff you find is garbage that's only purpose is to be sold in towns for money. Much of the game is simply spent running from chest to chest looting what you can carry, tossing less valuable items and moving to a town to sell those items. Occasionally you'll stumble on a rare item which is actually worth equipping. Again, the entire system is dull, monotonous and repetitive.

There are a few things about Borderlands that merits praise. The graphics art style is cell-shaded which I'm a fan of. The game is colorful and bright. The environments are significantly varies while maintaining a central theme. Gearbox did a fantastic job rendering the world of Pandora. If only they had made it an interesting place.

The online co-op is definitely the games saving grace. It's always fun to play online with a good friend, cracking jokes even if it is at the games expense.

Technically there are some glitches in the game. There are some well publicized trophy issues mainly the game not awarding trophies when it should. Additionally there are display glitches with the game where parts of the sky start to flash big blocky pixels of various colors. Another big issue was that that the game was resetting a characters stat level mid-way through after saving. So for example if I were playing as Mordecai and my sniper rifle level was mid-way through level 15 and I saved and quit the game. The next time I started a session my sniper rifle level would be reset to the beginning of level 15, wiping out a lot of progress. Problems like these are extremely frustrating particularly the leveling glitch.

All in all Borderlands will be loved by those that can overlook the games many, many problems and focus solely on the fun of the co-op element. To others I would strongly recommend buying Fallout 3 instead or getting a real RPG or just regular FPS. Borderlands is a rental at best.
