..and some patience. 'Assassin's Creed 2' is one of my favorite all-time video games and buying this trilogy collection, which includes it's DLC and two sequels ('Brotherhood' and 'Revelations') was a no-brainer. Unfortunately the way the games are packaged onto the disc is a bit strange and the HD space required to run all three games may turn off some gamers.

The first thing that booted up when I popped in the 'Ezio Trilogy' disc.....was 'Assassin's Creed: Revelations' (the third game in the trilogy). There's no in-game menu, no automatic way to switch to playing the other two games. I had to quit 'Revelations' (after it's mandatory 4+GB install) and after selecting AC2 and Brotherhood from the dashboard menu the games install....I mean COMPLETELY install to your HD. By the time I had AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations ready to play I had taken up 17 GB on my hard drive. Even stranger you're still required to have the disc in your system to be able to play each game (unless you want to play Revelations you'd probably want your auto-run turned off). To be fair it DOES say what's required on the back of the box and you can always just install AC2 OR Brotherhood by themselves (each takes up about 6-7 GB's) but those hoping to have all three games play off one disc will find these features a nuisance.

I will say 'AC2' and 'AC:Brotherhood' play beautifully on the PS3 without any of the bugs I remembered from their initial launches (UBISOFT did a great job cleaning things up). Graphics are smooth as ever and being able to climb buildings around renaissance-era Italy and Ottoman-ruled Turkey is still incredibly fun. Story-wise I'll never warm to Desmond's present-day narrative but getting involved in Ezio's quest for revenge and discovery is just as compelling as I remembered.

I'm not against having the option to install games to your HD I just don't like it being a requirement. 'The Ezio Trilogy' comes with three great games and if you can deal with this package's quirks the $40 price is a steal (individually they're $20 each if you download them off the network w/o AC2's DLC). Just be aware this is NOT like PS3's platinum collections and if you don't have a bigger HD be ready to free up some space.

So I was looking forward to this product, than I got it. First off the games are on one disc, but you have to completely install 2 and as if you downloaded the game. To have all three games you will need 17 GB of hard drive space. What is worse you still need the disc to play, 2 and Brotherhood, even though the entire game is on your hard drive. It is ridiculous 17GB is way to much.

The set is still a good deal, you are getting the games much cheaper than if you bought them individually but it would be nicer if they came on three discs and did not require so much hard drive space, or at least let you play with out the disc.

When I saw this trilogy was coming out, I knew it would be a great way to catch up on the series as I just received the AC3 500GB PS3 bundle for my birthday in November. I waited until I saw the first price drop (down to $30 the other day = $10 per game!), and snagged this up.

This is a GREAT bundle for those who are either new PS3 owners (new PS3's have a lot of HDD space) or PS3 owners new to the Assassin's creed series. All of my friends who played the entire series told me I didn't need to play the first one, but to read up on the story online instead.

Yes, it takes 17GB of space to install ACII and AC:B on the PS3, and yes you need the disk to play any of the 3 games at all times. In no way are either of these things good reasons not to buy this bundle. There are so many resources showing how to add hard drive space, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The day I bought this for $30, ACII was $15, AC:B was $18, and AC:R was $25. Even at $40, this trilogy is still a good deal. If you would rather pay more to have 3 disks and use less HDD space more power to you!

This trilogy only comes with the ACII DLC, but for newcomers to the series, I would recommend reading reviews on DLC for the other 2 games before buying any of it, as many see the added content as not being worth the additional money.

As far as the 3 games included, refer to each individual game's product page for full review there.

I previously owned all the games in the bundle individually, I love the series. Things that need to be known is that the games Assassins Creed 2 and Brotherhood are downloaded to the system, and the disc game is Revelations. Also, THE DISC MUST BE IN SYSTEM to play the downloaded Assassins Creed 2 or Brotherhood. Also if you have previous saved data for the games from the individual disc versions, be expected if those saves do not work. I could only get the save for Brotherhood to work, my Assassins Creed 2 will NOT work with the game. It creates a new save file, and does not read older ones which apparently Ubisoft changed something in codecs to make this effect occur. So be prepared to have to start over a game, luckily I already have a platinum trophy for 2, but it was a pain to get that far to have to start over

I bought mine as a demo display model, so there were a few scratches here and there. Overall, the build quality was nice, and definitely a step up in weight over the plasticy Rockband guitar controller. The neck is made up of real wood too! I also like the overall design as it feels less like a toy. Weighting wise, it's a little lighter than a real electric guitar. Size wise, the neck is a tad smaller as well. However, besides the top fret buttons jamming underneath the neck (it happened once so far after 3 months, and all I did to fix it was press down and slide it back out), I'd say this is a great guitar controller to purchase. I would give it 5 stars if it didn't have the jamming issue. Even my apartment mates love the overall feel. The pick action feels more controlled in their opinion. Oh right, in Rockband, the starpower button is one of the lower ones under the strum button instead of being the whammy bar. Might be programmable, but I normally play Frets on Fire on PC using this controller instead of Rockband on PS3. The wireless dongle has a USB and PS2 controller plug, so this can be used on PS2 and PS3. I don't think it advertises that it can be used on PC, but it does work for me on Windows 7RC. I just plugged it in (connected online), and it automatically installed the driver for this guitar to work.

DOA... Dead on Arrival!!! The guitar doesn't work. The wireless connector doesn't even pick it up. Its just a dead useless guitar to me.

Overall the guitar is a good buy..only issue, which I previously looked up before I purchased the guitar,is the fact that the buttons stick every so often which can ideally be pretty irritating when playing on hard songs. Thus if you Hit the buttons on the lower part of them they do not stick so that is a plus, lubing them up helped also.

On the bright side the weight and feel of the guitar is great, it feels life-size and realistic, which is always a plus...

I recommend it to anyone who is looking for something not to expensive but also a decent non-plastic guitar controller. Well worth it considering the replicas of other guitars cost $150ish. Enjoy..

Basics: This is a controller, made by Splitfish, specifically for the PS3. It only works on the PS3. You can checkout their site, it is limited but adequate. The basic premise of this controller is to have the right analog stick replaced by a mouse. Obviously, this is to bring PC controls to the PS3. While the mouse could be used for anything, it is clearly an FPS device.

The Fragfx v.2 hooks to the PS3 by a 10 foot USB cord. No Bluetooth here, my friends. The PS3 powers the controller, so the Fragfx v.2 cannot turn on the PS3. The 10ft cord goes into the back of the left-handed "Fragchuck" (I did not invent this term). Also emerging from the back of the Fragchuck, is the cord going to the mouse. You also receive a pretty good mouse pad with your Fragfx V.2, although I ended preferring my lap desk. Anybody hardcore is going to end up on a desk or table.

The mouse is right-handed and optical. R1, R2, and R3 are represented by the left, right and center mouse buttons; with the "start" button behind the center R3 button. The triangle, square, circle, and X buttons are on the left side of the mouse, under your thumb.

The Fragchuck is left-handed. It has an analog stick on top, used most often to represent the left analog stick on the PS3 controller. Think Wii nunchuck with a bunch of extra controls. The D-pad is behind the stick. Also on top of the Fragchuck are the Select and PS buttons. The Fragchuck has 3 front "triggers". The uppermost trigger is the "Frag" button. Under that are L1 and L2. L3 is the top of the analog stick, same as a PS3 controller. On the right side is a sensitivity dial. Finally, the Fragchuck is your sixaxis controller in this setup.

Bells and Whistles: This controller comes with many extra options. The first is the "Frag" button. When you hold this, the sensitivity on the mouse drops and your sight moves only a little with large moves of the mouse. This is to allow you to make sniper shots more easily. The second extra control is the sensitivity dial on the side of the Fragchuck. This was my favorite feature. By adjusting game sensitivity and then the sensitivity dial, you can fine tune exactly how much action you get on the mouse. You can even change it on the fly.

Additionally, the controller will let you set buttons to rapid fire. You can adjust the sensitivity of the motion controls, and their calibration. You can "switch" the mouse to represent the left PS3 stick on the fly (the Fragchuck analog stick will represent the right PS3 stick in "switch" mode.) You can flip it to "mouse" mode and use it with the web browser. Finally, you can program the motion control to double as any button except, Frag, PS, Select, and Start.

Functionality: Plugging the Fragfx V.2 in for the first time, I immediately saw how easy it would be to drop the darn thing. Not quite as nice as flopping down on the couch and punching the PS button on a dualshock. The 10ft cord was just about right length, I have to sit pretty far from my sports-bar-obscenity-only-an-American-would-own TV. USB extension cords are cheap, so I do not see this as a problem regardless.

I am a freak because the PS3 is my first console. Mouse and keyboard is what most of you learned FPS on; I was coming at this backwards. It was a bit like learning to drive stick after automatic. Initially a mess, but ultimately a more responsive set up. I noodled around with the browser and a couple of other games, but Killzone 2 was the central game in testing. At first I had the sensitivity way too high and got nauseous when one large mouse move executed a 360. Within 30 minutes, my aim was better with the mouse than it had been with 30 hours on the dualshock. I could now weave about while keeping my sight on a moving target. My firing in general had less of a sweeping quality and stayed on enemy heads more of the time. My effectiveness with the starting assault rifles improved. Keep in mind that improvement for me is NOT Barry Bonds using steroids. This is much more like HIV patients using steroids to maintain muscle mass. I am moving from hopeless to decent, not good to Lazlo-quality sniper. During my initial "plug and go" sessions, it was hard to get the sensitivity to the point where I could turn quickly, yet maintain control of my aim. One or the other would suffer, yet it was still better than a dualshock.

What really made the difference for Killzone 2 was the firmware update from the Splitfish website. It really made the sight less jittery and gave me a smooth feel with the game sensitivity at max and the Fragchuck dial at about 4. I could turn like an F18 in the alleys, yet pull up the sight and plonk off a pretty good burst at somebody's favorite head.

Overall, Fragfx v.2 good. The Frag button works but did not magically make me a sniper god. I am not a General in the game, so sniping was limited to single player and skirmish modes. The dial was my favorite feature, allowing me to adjust to circumstances. I could turn it up when on a fixed gun and cover the area nicely. I could turn it down when engaging via the M82 rifle sight. When I tried going back to the dualshock, I went right back to captain-sweepy-shot. The Fragfx v.2 really let me stay on the target better.

Other Options: I tried the Fragfx V.2 on mouse mode, and it works OK. Honestly, I prefer the regular PS3 controller with a keyboard attached (I like the keyboard, but I do not use the touchpad "feature" on the keyboard, that "feature" is a Goddamned nightmare, I freaking well dare you to get the cursor down from the top of the screen, I freaking well dare you).

I do not really have a game to test "switch" mode. This swaps the mouse and joystick. It looks like it is geared for GTA4 and the like, allowing you to use the mouse for the steering wheel or the gun. I don't think switch mode can fully compensate for left-handed people. Even if you switch, the buttons remain the same. You can't use the mouse left handed, the "shape" buttons are no longer under your thumb.

Reassigning motion control is fun. You can make shaking the Fragchuck do almost anything. After programming, shaking the Fragchuck can throw a grenade, reload, swing a rifle butt, etc. It does not work well for any continuous function, like running. If you get the correct download off of their site, you can remap all buttons... except R3 and L3. I would love to remap L3 into oblivion, but c'est la vie.

More than a year later: This review has been edited now that I have had the thing more than a year. It has good durability, still works great. I managed to yank it accidentally once and L2 popped off, but it popped back in and works like it never happened. Two times I have fired up the system and the mouse has not registered. Restart and everything was kosher, so that it a mighty fine track record.

I still can't tell you if this device will move you from good to God. It moves me from bad to decent. I am old and 14 year-olds literally have 500 milliseconds on me at all times. What are you gonna do? I think some folks want a mouse to make them telepathic and able to aim bot anything they see. No product is going to do that.

The price has come down. My initial review said this was not worth it at 80 bucks but was worth it at 50 bucks. The time has come. The cost is similar to a dualshock and this makes a far more interesting backup controller. Give it a shot. Even if you splurge for a XIM and PC and fragenstein setup, if you suck you will still likely suck.

The Splitfish Fragfx v.2 allows you to play like a pc gamer on the PS3. However, the lack of quality of the product will only slightly improve your overall accuracy if you're already good with the dual shock 3 controller made by Sony.

The product works as advertised (no software necessary) and feels very close to using a mouse for FPS games on the PS3. The mouse and the left grip controller are very light weight and made of very cheap plastic. The mouse is optical, not laser. I cannot even compare this product to a real gaming mouse like the Logitech G5 or the Copperhead, they're in completely different leagues. However, the Fragfx will definitely feel more comfortable to use for gamers coming from the pc gaming platform over to the world of playstation.

Splitfish claims that you can have the DS3 controller and the Fragfx plugged in simultaneously. However, I found that if the original controller is connected, plugging in the Fragfx will not automatically work; it will only recognize the left grip controller and not the mouse. You must first turn off the Sony controller completely (not just unplug it) and then connect the Fragfx, and push the ps button on the Fragfx: THEN the mouse will be recognized and you're good to go.

The Fragfx v.2 can be programmed as advertised, and now has a rapid fire feature (usually called a turbo) that allows you to fire a single shot weapon as if it were a machine gun. However, please note that COD4 and COD5 have disabled this feature in the game, so don't be shocked if your G3 only fires one shot per second with the turbo/rapid fire turned on. Besides, we don't want to be cheating now do we?

Overall, I'm very pleased with the concept of combining a mouse with a controller. It's a brilliant idea! I just wish it was made better and used laser instead of optical technology in the mouse. If you're frustrated with the DS3 sony controller and hate using joysticks, this is a great alternative until something better comes out.

Update Aug 9th 2009: Disappointing

----------------------------------

They claim that the tweak utility works in Windows Vista...

I've been playing around with the "tweak utility" program available on the Splitfish website. Splitfish claims that this utility allows the user to remap the buttons and adjust the button pressure...

Well no matter what I did, I could not get it to save the new button arrangements to the fragfx. Not only that, but every time I click on the tab for the button pressure adjustment feature, my entire computer becomes unresponsive, and I have to force a reboot. I tested this on Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, and Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit: it just doesn't appear to work at all.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Splitfish has released any updates for this product since my first review: The tweak utility is still in beta, and the firmware hasn't changed either. I'm very disappointed as I desperately need to change the buttons for certain games.

I currently own the v1. and have used the v2. I noticed the same problem on both for a pc gamer like myself the mouse buttons are sometimes un responsive. Yes you can adjust the sensitivity and that will help. For the average user just looking to play easy this will most likely not be a problem. However if you are a hardcore gamer (i myself am in between.) you will need to fix this issue. However i have the solution. The basics of the mouse are simple all the buttons are pressure sensitive. This is where the issue lies. If you pull apart the mouse (5 screws) the board you see for the main mouse buttons (l-click r -click) have 3 terminals with a black band. this band is the pressure sensitive interface. To fix your problem you have 2 options the easy and the expert methods.

The easy method

use a fine screw driver and gently and slowely scrape the black substance from the terminals making sure not to remove the underlying contact. Re assemble and adjust your sensitivity to 5 10 for active. Now every time you hit the button your sensitivity is full and you wont have any issues however you loose pressure sensitivity on that button (i only preformed this on my left button because of some games utilizing pressure sensitivity and left is shoot)

The expert method (which i prefer because i like tacticle click of a mouse)

after removing the black band proceed to your electornic supply store (most likely not a radioshack) and purchase a surface mount momentary tac switch. (lowest ms recovery possible) all you need is a two terminal no need for a third ground. also make sure the base is non conductive. all you want is two conductive leads. This switch should match the general size of the rubber push button piece minus the little nub that goes in the button post. if you go too small you will need to rig up something to extend the post too big and you wont be able to re assemble the mouse. Solder this to the terminals (going from left of the buttons 3 terminals) 2 & 3 . Re assemble the mouse and now you have a clicking button where you put the switch. This will work on all buttons in the mouse however you will loose pressure sensitivity.

You will need to adjust the minimum pressure because now it will have residual conductivity and will show pressure. Just adjust for the 5 10 range and you will be set.

14 years of pc gaming experience and very meticulous when it comes to aiming.Near 1 year on the fragfx version 1 on ps3. I just recently got the version 2 this was the outcome on KILLZONE 2. I hope this is just bad luck or a firmware issue it is up to date by the way. It showed me jitters and lack of micro moving. Version 1 gets 5 stars but till I try another version 2 I cannot give it more than a 2 which is pushing it since it was very jittery while trying to move slow it would jump 10 pixels sporadically.

Version 2 special edition is much better.

Want PS3 FragFX v.2 Controller with Mouse Pad Discount?

I have been playing FPS games on the PC since the early days of Doom. The only Console FPS game that I was heavily addicted to was Goldeneye and since then I have never found any enjoyment from using a controller to try and aim on screen. That is not to say I cannot do it, I just do not enjoy it as much as feel like I am having to put up with horrible controls to enjoy console shooters.

I have been keeping an eye on the Frag FX since first hearing about it and all the issues with the V1. I held off on making the purchase simply because of all the negativity that I would hear about the controller.

Killzone 2:

When I got the Frag FX V2 I plugged it in and immediatly setup a skirmish in Killzone2. I played with the adjustements until I found a smooth setting that gave me fairly quick turning. I have found that killzone is a pretty bad game to test this controller because it appears that GG designed the game to make it difficult to use this type of controller.

This controler increased my ability to aim while on the run and to hit targets that were on the run. I noticed that if I had someone behind me I had trouble spinning fast enough due to the "weighted" design of the game.

Bioshock:

I then put in Bioshock and I can see how this controller is designed to work now. I had a lot of fun playing with this controller in Bioshock and I am finally decided that it would be enjoyable to work on the survivor difficulty.

Once I got everything adjusted and smoothed out, I felt like I was playing this game PC style. I tend to like my mouse controls loose and quick on the PC so this controller feels a tad bit sluggish and slow. It is 1000 times better than using a standard controller to aim with.

__________________

If you are a PC gamer and love FPS games... you will enjoy using this controller. For me it injected some fun into games that were getting a bit stale to me due to the hassle of the controls.

I was able to get my top 1% ribbon in Killzone 2 and 100% the trophies prior to getting the Frag FX and now with this new controller I have a reason to play the game again... FOR THE FUN OF IT!!!

Hope this reviews helps some of those PC gamers on the fence. I think 90% of the "HATE" reviews are based off on people whole play online and do not want an even playing field.

__________________

After a lot of time with the Frag FX I found that the controller was not able to achieve the speed and quickness that I wanted. I purchased the FragNstein to test out a different controller and found that the ability to adjust that controller was a thousand times greater than the options I had with the FragFX. I also had my FragFX mouse buttons stop working and had to mail the controller to Canada in order ot get it replaced. SplitFIsh did replace it no questions asked!

I am sure that now Splitfish has released products that are closer in quality to the Bannco FragNstein, but the build quality, customer service, and software flexibility (deadzone in particular) of the FragNstein makes it the better choice.

My next possible purchase will be the Eagle Eye to test out a converter rather than trying another controller.

The game is great, but of course the content such as the wallet sounded too good to be true. The game is worth the price alone but as in without the content, the mask was cool. The gloves I couldn't expect much because well its just blue surgical gloves. The cd was good, and well I was disappointed with the wallet because its very flimsy. It would be best to purchase the game alone. The product description says: "easily positioned, applied without air bubbles"

Product 3/5: It isn't bad and looks nice when it's in place. Not so easy to put this thing anyway.

For a deceptive description 1/5: This skin left bubbles, no matter what you do, it leaves bubbles all over the place and isn't "easily positioned". The only good thing is that effectively this skin doesn't create a mess when removed.

So, overall a 2/5 counting the very high price (18 bucks) for what it is. There are better options with a reasonable price out there.

Note, my opinion is based on the PS3 version while driving with Professional physics, ASM/TCS off, using a Sparco cockpit and Logitech G25 wheel.

PRICE nearly a no-brainer buy for fans; but a little high considering it's a prologue, limited number of events and cars.

GRAPHICS improved as expected given the possibilities of the PS3. In a way the sensation of speed has decreased, an ironic side effect of the smooth picture quality. It's easier to look further into the distance.

SOUND really stunning, accurate, raspy, and powerful. Enormous help to the gameplay to hear unique exhaust notes for each car. Huge improvement from GT4.

CARS there are plenty of great cars for everyone rather than recreating hundreds of nearly identical and/or boring, useless-for-racing cars, this game sticks to the cars that are meant to go fast, and does them well. The sound and handling of each is unique and seems to be accurate. And the Ferrari F2007, once you beat the S races and earn the required 2 million credits, is just so cool to drive (even though its quick tune options are limited you can't modify the power, weight, ride height, springs, or driving physics).

TRACKS the Daytona trioval is a lot more interesting to drive than a super speedway like Motegi. Daytona also comes with a road course, and even though I feel driving a road course in the infield of an oval feels a bit unnatural, it's still a fun course. There's also Fuji, Suzuka, London, and High Speed Ring. Not bad.

AI improved number and varied driving personalities, but they still defy the rules of clean racing and the laws of physics with impunity. They drive right through you as you serve your penalties (which they often cause). You'll see shortcutting, using runoff areas for acceleration, wallriding, refusing to back off even when their line is hopeless, and of course bumping and shoving you, leaving you to collect from the new array of infractions. It's getting a bit harsh, but the restart button is only a menu away.

HANDLING if you select "standard" the cars handle pretty much like they did in GT4; if you put it on "professional" then it takes on a more realistic (i.e. unforgiving) character. Default settings are a little mushy even with cars you'd expect to be nimble, and the professional physics render the supercars (Corvette, Ford GT, Ferrari) nearly uncontrollable. After unlocking the S group and quick tune, some cars can have their downforce cranked up to get some handling back, but cars that are more about beauty than function don't have this available. Many of them remain just a tiny mistake away from an unrecoverable slide. No wonder so many inexperienced drivers crack them up (especially if they turn off the driver aids). I completed all the races (except three of the S races) on "professional" but since the AI is not subject to the same realities, you may occasionally need to set it back to "standard" in order to be competitive.

So far the game has overall been enjoyable, and much of the struggle can be overcome by selecting the correct car for each race, just as it was in GT4.

Right up front, I'll point out the three most obvious things about GT5 Prologue.

1. It looks gorgeous

2. The AI is abominable.

3. There is still no car damage.

To use a lovely english expression : it's all mouth and no trousers. Look past the HD graphics and hype and you'll find Gran Turismo 1 lurking here.

The Gran Turismo games are known for their accurate car handling and fantastic graphics, and GT5 Prologue is no exception. The problem is that it is all absolutely ruined by the other driver AI. Previous Gran Turismo titles have never exactly shone when it comes to the AI, but in GT5 it's simply non-existent. It's not that the AI is dumb, it's just not there. The other cars all drive on rails, irrespective of where you are. For example, on the High Speed Ring circuit there's a challenge to get from the back of the pack to the front in a single lap. In the car they give you, it is 100% impossible to come any higher than 3rd, and that's a stretch. The driving-on-rails is so accurate and predictable that you can actually predict exactly where every car will be at any given point. You'll come up behind the Ford Focus at the end of the second turn, and don't even think about passing him on the outside because he will always jink to the left for no reason as he goes across the bridge. If you're in the way, then tough. The game will just force you off the track. At the next corner, the Mazda 6 will always follow the identical line inside the corner, again irrespective of whether you're there.

The same is true in the other types of race. Within minutes of playing this game, you will find yourself making a tidy corner only to have a much faster car come right up behind you and ram you off the track because you're in the way of it's pre-programmed line. To see how truly awful it is, start a race at the back and watch the 15 cars in front of you. They'll all cut the same corner in the same way, every lap, all with the identical puff of dirt as they do it.

It is simply abominable.

The problem is that this issue was solved long ago by the likes of well just about every other racing franchise out there. It's compounded by the fact that there is still no car damage or dirt in GT5. You can stuff any car into a concrete armco at 175mph and it will simply bounce off without so much as a scratch. To think that Polyphony could put out a game with no car damage and ruinous AI on a next-gen console in 2008 just boggles the mind given how accomplished the competition is (think: Project Gotham Racing).

So what about the eye-candy aspect? Well it runs at 1080p (full HD) and it looks absolutely spectacular. The textures are crisp and don't blur out at highly obtuse angles like they would on an X-Box. The car models are beautiful as are the various effects like the real-time reflections and the colour-flip paint jobs. There is some aliasing on high-contrast areas but detail popup is minimal. There are very noticable level-of-detail swaps on some of the cars where they swap from a low detail to a high detail version. It's most noticable on the Daytona circuit where you'll occasionally see the shading on the back of a car pop noticably as the model swaps to it's higher resolution version. In fact the eye-candy aspect is only marred slightly be the fact that the game clearly doesn't run at 60 frames per second. Well it does on sparsely populated tracks but in the thick of the action on some circuits, you'll see noticable slowdown which you just shouldn't have on a console as powerful as a PS3.

What other things to know about? Well the online aspect of the game has a lot of promise but it's buggy at best. If your PS3 isn't set up pefectly on a broadband network (NAT type 1) it just won't connect to the servers. If you're lucky enough to have a good setup, then even when it does connect, the racing is a bit dodgy. It's obvious that the sample rate for your system communicating with all the others is fairly slow as you'll often see your opponents cars jump across the circuit from one side to the other, or suddenly appear to brake or accelerate at light speed as the servers catch up.

When you come to use the game for the first time, be prepared for a long wait. It seems to copy the entire blu-ray disc on to the internal hard drive which takes a good 15 minutes, then as soon as you connect, it will download a huge update which will take 5 to 10 minutes to download and another 5 minutes to install. So out-of-the-box to first race is about 30 minutes. That seems a bit odd to me I was entirely expecting the game to run off the disc like many of the other PS3 titles.

So GT5 Prologue : it's great eye-candy, sure. But the two biggest, most long-standing problems with the GT franchise are still present. Awful AI and no car damage. The press previews and talk from Polyphony indicate that the full game will have car damage, but historically, they've never been known to change their underlying game engines between the 'Prologue' and the full versions of GT. They have always claimed that they've fixed the AI with each successive version of the game, but honestly GT5 Prologue has taken a massive step backwards. They say it's better than ever but it's actually worse than ever. So when they say there will be car damage in the full game, I say 'cry wolf' I'm afraid.

It's an ominous omen for GT5 later this year. Sure it'll have more cars and more tracks. But chances are it will have the same problems the GT franchise has always had, and that's simply not good enough. Couple that with the questionable frame rate and online problems and that could be disastrous.

I dearly love the GT franchise I've had every one of them and I've been hoping and praying that they would one day fix the AI problems and the lack of car damage. If they've not done it on the PS3, then it's just never going to happen, and that is a sad indictment of Polyphony's marketing strategy. I've played this game a lot, desperately wanting to like it but I always put the controller down and am left with an empty feeling. It's just not exciting.

I've been a fan of racing games for a long time, and actually race in various forms of SCCA racing myself. I've raced high and low powered front and rear wheel drived cars and have learned a lot through competing and the various schools and classes I've attended. I had never played a Gran Turismo game prior to Prologue, having always had XBox or other consoles previously. I had heard so much about it that I didn't even bother with demos and simply bought the game the day it was available. Now having played it for several months all I have to say is I don't think I'll even consider buying the full GT5 whenever it makes it here.

My major gripes are as follows:

1) Atrocious game play layout

2) Poor physics

3) AI and damage are absolutely laughable.

To start with the game play is ridiculous. It reminds me of the old days of games where you do routines over and over and over to gain points/experience/money to buy the next level. The success you have in the races and your carrer mean little in GT5, only if you have the right car or not. You can breeze through each of the various classes by simply buying the right car. Buy the Ford Focus for C class and you cruise through... buy the GT-R for B class and you cruise right through. Buy the Ford GT for the A class and you cruise right through. The only hitch is the little added difficulty of the car specific races. So then you have to repeat races over and over to get enough money to buy the random extra cars. Disappointing, tedious and overall abysmal game play layout.

The online gameplay is even worse... it degrades into bumper cars with idiots and no penalties of meaning, and the pairing system and time from game to game is horrible! It is a very nice touch though that you can actually earn money racing online for your offline activities. That I thought was well though out and appreciable.

On to the physics. I've spent years learning to drive the right way and how to execute proper control. There are tricks of the trade on how to guide a car through certain types of corners and how to achieve certain handling. It simply does not exist in this game. Trail braking and various power on scenarios are not met with the appropriate vehicle responses. Additionally, vehicles with wildly different characteristics will handle nearly identical in this game. It doesn't matter what aids are or not enabled, or what level of physics you choose. Throttle on response was one of the poorest aspects I though in general, but turn in effects weren't far behind! Amazingly pathetic for a game that bills itself as a "the real driving simulator". It also appalling that in some cases the fastest way to execute part of a track is to bounce yourself off a fence or wall. I started doing it out of humor and was horrified to see it actually help in certain situations.

The AI and damage are really in that same vane. They do nothing, they don't exist, and it's all just superfluous featuring. Everyone else has covered these in other reviews, so no need to rehash the well known here.

All griping aside. The graphics are beautiful. The tracks are well rendered. The overall effects and feel of the game are beautiful. But as far as a driving experience and something fun to play... it just doesn't hold any allure in any way for me. Really a true disappointment on many levels from a franchise that I had always heard to be the best out there. There are already much better other racing games out there on the PS3 that I feel have given a lot better game play experience as well and while their physics engines aren't anything great either, at least they don't try to claim "simulation" and get at least a few things down better than GT5 even does even if they are less complete packages for the physics.

The game is as good as the last GT game, graphics are better and the cars seem to respond more lifelike but and this is big, the tuning aspect is maybe 15% of what it was and WOW!!!!! the penalties in the class S races are EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING, for example you hit a car and get a penalty usually about 3 to 5 seconds depending on how hard you his the other car. But if a car hits you no penalty for the cpu car and if that car pushed you off track guess what 60% of the time you will get a short cut penalty for going off the track, when that car hit you, it will drive you MAD!!!!! Every car you want to play with you have to buy and if you don't like it you might get back 1/4 of it selling price when you sell it back and when money is hard to come by unless you play online it makes it tough not to be forced to play the same quick big money race over and over and over just to get the cash to buy the many cars you have to buy to complete the game, for example, you have to purchase a BMW M3 100,000, a Ferrari f430, 250,000, a Ferrari 599, 350,000 a Ferrari f40 450,000 and a few other cars to complete the game and with the prize money for the races around 20,000 for first and always having to start 16th rather that QUALIFY it makes it tough and like I said FRUSTRATING. I want to trade it in but I just can't because I am a fan of the game but its sometimes hard to play for more than 1 hour before your blood begins to boil.

Another great looking GT game with semi-simulation game play and some annoyingly unresolved core issues. Your opponents are still mindless cruise missiles who do not respond to your presence on the track at all and who never make mistakes. Plus damage modeling remains absent, though promised DLC sometime this summer is supposed to address that issue. Those of us who remember the "damage" system from GT2 (or Forza for that matter) where you hit a wall at 140 and then the car pulls a bit to the right may be a bit skeptical as to how this will be implemented. The usual GT combination of annoyingly flawless competitors and no damage makes using the other cars as bumpers to improve cornering as tempting as ever, especially in some of the more brutally difficult challenges. (See below.)

This specific implementation has some unique issues. Those of you who feel the GT-R is a bit over-hyped will quickly grow tired of all the added background content about that vehicle in the game. Much like the Acura NSX was the former over favorably modeled vehicle in prior GTs, the GT-R here seems a bit too perfect. A good third of the 75 cars in GT5) featured are useless and boring, a familiar problem from GT4 with its dozens of bland Japanese cars that those outside the Nipponese car buying market could care less about. (5 Skyline Models! 7 Suzuki and Daihatsu Micro-Cars!) However, most of the cars here are reasonably interesting and the graphics are beautiful. The handling model also appears to be as accurate and distinctive for each car as might be expected.

The mere six tracks in the game grow very tiring very quickly. The Daytona oval is as dull as could be imagined, and the London circuit, though gorgeous, is under-utilized in the actual in-game events due to the fact that it has no decent straights and too many sharp angled turns.

Besides bad opponent AI, no damage, GT-R propaganda, a few dull cars, and a teeny variety of tracks, are there any other problems? You betcha! The real problem here is the gameplay. There are about 40 races in the game total at this point, grouped into 4 tiers, each of which must be completed in order to advance. Some of the races, especially in the A tier, are vastly difficult especially A-8, the Ferrari pass them all in one lap. If you can't win that last race in the tier, you need to grind away over and over until you finish it in order to advance.

When you finally get to the last tier ("S"), you will be disappointed; though you can now finally tune your cars, your tuning options mainly amount to either minute changes in camber and brake balance a la NASCAR, or beefing hp up / weight down or vice versa in order to balance cars out in each race. The added "joy" of S class racing is the return of the GT4 5 second penalty for bumping other racers and / or the landscape. As was also the case in GT4, you are penalized even if the drone racers hit you, while they are not.

The game so ends with a whimper rather than a bang as you strap weights onto your car to trim it into the point category, and then grind your teeth in frustration as your cruise missile opponents hit you from behind and vanish into the horizon as you lose the race because of the penalty levied because of the unavoidable and unintentional collision. An actual damage system and opponents with more brains than a pigeon would be a much better solution to the bumper cars problem, but this is what the geniuses at Polyphony give us instead.

To add insult to injury, the GT crew in recent news have announced that the actual GT5 game may not be out till 2010 and the much hyped DLC upgrade may not be out in summer 08 as originally promised. Lovely! In the meantime, why buy this at all? I would suggest buying Grid instead, which is a fully realized game with functional damage, an actual campaign structure, challenging artificial opponents who also make mistakes and even crash at times, and more than twice as many tracks. Sure there is no trendy BGM, the handling is not as realistic, and there are less cars modeled than GT5P, but damage and human style opponent AI more than make up for those deficiencies.

Rent GT5P if you want to see the pretty graphics, play Grid during the loooong wait for the real GT5 and then see if the end Polyphony product is a worthy enough game to spend 60 clams on. Content and graphics in the GT games are fine, but the series needs to see damage modeling and more challenging competition in the single player game in order to remain a viable contender in the next-gen racing game market.

this is my first review, hope it's helpful (feel free to leave a comment and tell me what i did wrong/right). anyway, on with the amateur ramblings!

when i first saw the trailers for Borderlands a couple of months ago, i said to myself "that looks amazing (in both the graphical and gameplay departments), but it seems to be trying way too hard". i also thought it looked like what Fallout 3 would've been if it was a FPS with RPG elements as opposed to the RPG with FPS view that it is.

as a bit of side information, i got Killzone 2 a week ago and have been playing it nonstop. i've already beaten it twice and i've spent pretty much every waking moment (to my girlfriend's annoyance) playing the campaign or the multiplayer. when i woke up today there was a delivery on my stoop. i told myself i'd open up Borderlands first (i also bought Resistance 2 and a few old school PS1 games (FFIX!)) and play it til the first save or checkpoint. this was at 11am, i'm writing this review at 11:30pm and save for going to dinner with my friends and dropping my sister off at the dorms, i've played the entire time. this game is just that engrossing and sheer fun

i don't think i can explain exactly what makes Borderlands so fantastic... there's just something about it. reviews i had seen on a few sites said that it takes a while for the game to get going and that by the 10th hour or so it really starts to be fun. well, if the game gets much more fun than this, it will be close to my game of the year. everything about Borderlands oozes style and love (meaning you can just tell how much the developers cared about this project). the pacing of the game is fantastic, the difficulty is a little up there, but it works and is never frustrating. the controls are spot on as far as responsiveness, but some of the button mapping is a bit strange (who maps fire to L2? and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it). the AI is fantastic with weapon-based enemies finding anyplace they can to duck behind and fire for cover, while the dog like creatures just get right up in your face. this can be frustrating, but it really makes you feel good when you finally blast them away.

the RPG elements are just kinda... there. while i don't think they detract from the game, i also think that they could have been implemented differently without the overall game changing on a base level. that being said, Borderlands does a great job of Diablo style leveling-up. part of the reason i couldn't stop playing is cause you're ALWAYS building up your character in some small way. it's just incredibly addictive and fulfilling. the one minor nitpick that i can throw in here is having to press square every. single. time. you wanna pick up an item. you can hold it down to pick up multiple items that are very close to each other, but you'll be pressing square A LOT. i know tehre's some things you might not want, but you spend so much time in your inventory screen anyway, they may as well have made it so you just run over something to grab it.

Borderlands sells itself on the concept of it's "87 Bazillion Guns". i've heard real estimates that say there's at least a few hundred thousand and that sure seems to be true. you'll NEVER stumble on the same gun twice. it's both a good and bad thing. obviously it's fun to try out all sorts of different combinations, but a lot more often than you'd like, you'll wind up with a weapon that, while not useless, is just pretty lame and underpowered. when you do find that perfect sniper rifle that shoots lighting, has a 500-round clip and a 120x zoom (just as one of soooo many examples), it'll all be so very worthwhile.

the rest of my nitpicks, and by the way, that's all they are, cause i don't see a single legitimate big complaint with this game, would be as follows: while the game looks cool in it's own way, it think it's almost like a cop-out art style, maybe they didn't feel like doing textures or something. there's also severe framerate issues where you're in the middle of large battles. the vehicles, which make getting around so much easier, don't handle good at all and you get less Exp when you kill an enemy with your car as opposed to being on foot. i wish there were large online multiplayer deathmatches and CoF battles and the like. i'll have to check out the online "duels" at some point, see if they almost make up for that.

when you get right down to it though, this is just an amazing game all around. the graphics have a sheen and polish that not many games have (it's fun to see little HP numbers rolling off someone as you shoot them in the face). i still think Borderlands is trying a bit too hard to be "cool" in the way a Tarentino or Guy Ritchie movie would be, but it just works anyway (much like a Guy Ritchie movie haha). in the end there's just something about Borderlands, some intangible quality, that makes it such a worthwhile experience. i haven't played the online co-op yet, so i can't speak to that, but the single player is one hell of a ride. the areas might all look a tad samey, there's only four character classes to choose from. the driving physics are pretty bad and there's not much variety in your enemies. thing is, none of that matters, Borderlands is amazing in spite of all of it's very minor flaws.

if you've ever liked an FPS, if you've ever liked level-up-fests like Diablo, etc, hell, even if you wanted more action from Fallout 3, you owe it to yourself to at least give Borderlands a chance. this, along with Killzone 2, BlazBlue, Uncharted 2, Dirt 2 (and i can only assume the new Ratchet and Clank game) is one of the top 5 best games of 2009. there's a damn good chance that this game is considerably better than any other videogame you're looking to get on Amazon... pick Borderlands immediately. you won't be let down.

enjoy. hope this helped. =)

This game is very fun to play online! I think the single player option is nice but not the true way the game was meant to play. Its easy to pick this game up and run through a couple quests in half an hour or even join on someone else's game. the action is great and if you minimize travel time between action can be rather short. cars are fun and the addition of challenges make for a fun addition to the game. The four classes are a nice idea but the ability to develop their skill trees differently give these classes more variability.

The mods for the grenades and class skills are excellently done. Also the ability to level up in weapon skills prevents any class from being limited in weapon choice. This game has many layers to it that keep it more fresh than other MMO-type games.

i would recommend it to anyone that liked Diablo/Diablo II's action/RPG elements. The First person shooter element of this game is great!

Borderlands is a heck of a lot of fun. As a guy who has played a lot of post-apocalyptic games (yes, including Wasteland/Fallout -> Fallout 3), I have to admit that Borderlands hits that nice sweet spot between pure FPS and pure RPG. In Borderlands, you pick one of four characters and get to go for a romp in a fun quasi-post apocalyptic wasteland that is part Mad Max and part Pitch Black. Basically, you are on a different planet that is a rough and tumble outback world filled with nasty aliens, rogue humans, and lots of gunfights. It's a good time.

Borderlands is not as much an RPG as Fallout 3, for example -your character is more of a Diablo style with skill trees rather than fully customizable. Quests are also less elaborate, and a bit more on rails with areas unlocking for exploration only as you advance the plot. Borderlands also reminds one of Mass Effect for its combat heavy emphasis and shield technology, but let's get down to some specifics:

1) Guns, guns, guns. I knew Borderlands was hyping its "17 trillion guns" bit, but didn't realize quite how awesome this would be until I really got into it. It really is amazing how varied the weaponry is. With just a 20th level character, I've already found sniper rifles that launch explosive rounds, rocket launchers that set everything on fire in a 10 foot radius, scoped shotguns that put 8 slugs in a tight circle on target from 200 meters away, SMGs that fire 4 shots at a time and electrocute the target, and everything in between. A good gun can really make a difference in a fight, such as finding a strong sniper rifle early, or getting a machine gun with a +60 round magazine that lets you walk up to someone and put a hundred rounds into their face. Sometimes enemies drop guns, but more often you'll find yourself giddy as you open a sealed gun case and see a gleaming new rifle. Really addictive.

2) Weapon proficiencies. Instead of putting points into weapons skills as you level up, you gain bonuses for them the more you use them. This is more realistic and a lot more fun, since it gives you a way to reinforce your powers through use. Clearing a few caves with a shotgun will quickly net you added weapon bonuses that really pay off. Separately you can also (starting at level 5) put points into your skill trees, so you can get some nice cumulative overlap.

3) Second wind. One great concept is the "second wind" -when you get KO'd, you get a few seconds to kill one of your foes and get a "second wind" that pops you back onto your feet. This is particularly nice when you get overrun by mutant dogs or flying enemies without warning. In a number of fights, I killed nearly every foe only to have the last couple take me down at close range. With a second wind, you manage to survive -and it is extremely gratifying.

4) Level resets. One nice feature is that quitting and reloading the game resets all the areas, so you can farm areas repeatedly for EXP, different guns, and the like. This lets you level up if you are having problems, make money, and get those weapons you wanted.

Now, a few negatives:

1) No armor. Your character gets a wide array of selections between guns, grenades, and shield generators. However, there is no other armor in the game. This seems like a big oversight and cuts into the customizability of your character a fair amount. It would be nice to have slightly less guns in exchange for boots, gloves, helmets etc.

2) Level-specific foes. Enemies have a high respawn rate and scale somewhat based on your level. This usually works fine, although you will face a lot of dangerous and accurate enemies. One problem however is that you seem to do less damage against higher level enemies. In particular, if a foe is much stronger than you, your weapons do almost no damage, while theirs will destroy you. This might be an effort to keep your level growth under control, but you usually find out through trial and error. I had a character go up a level in the middle of a fight, and he went from doing 20 damage to some high level raiders to doing over 100. It was pretty strange.

3) The graphics in the game are interesting and appealing, but there are some unfortunate bug effects. Despite a nice strong jumping ability, it is possible to get stuck in the terrain, which can also effect enemies. NPC scripts can sometimes get broken if interrupted by fights or the like, usually requiring a reload (for example, I've had that little droid from the start of the game freeze up a few times, meaning you can't get through a gate and the game is basically broken).

4) There are vehicles you can drive around in, which is another nice feature. They also make good heavy weapons platforms if you are having problems with higher level monsters. However they are also a little buggy -I had one simply blow up for no reason (and with full shields), and another get stuck on some rocks that wouldn't let me exit and required a reload. And reloads take forever.

All in all, Borderlands is a fun game with much to recommend itself. Popping people with a sniper rifle and then cleaning up with a shotgun or assault rifle is a simple joy that is endlessly repeated. If you're looking for a FPS with character development, or an RPG with lots of fighting, this is your game.

If you could only describe a game in one word, that word would be "insane." I've just stayed up till 7:30am and it was all worth it. It's like Killzone2 frantic and the RPG elements of the first Baulder's Gate on PS2. I'm a level 28 soldier. Now the weapons are insane, I've had a shotgun that shot rockets, an SMG with explosive rounds, an SMG with a four spread shot so each round is four projectiles, a heavy machine gun with fire rounds, and a revolver with 303 damage and zoom scope (meaning it's my sniper rifle for medium range, HAND CANNON!). The only thing that sucks is if you have a rocket launcher it has no hit detection (if you think your going to hit a target aim at the ground at its feet, its the only way to cause damage, GEARBOX please send us all a patch!).

Other than that, see you on the Pandora on PS3.

When I first heard of the concept behind Borderlands I immediately got excited about the prospect of playing a cooperative Role-Playing-Game online with a good friend. In the gaming press more than one passing comparison was made between Borderlands and Diablo, "Diablo with guns!" was one term used. Being a huge fan of Diablo my anticipation for Borderlands only grew.

As soon as the game was released a good friend and I purchased our copies and jumped online for some co-op goodness. For the first 4-6 hours I loved Borderlands but after that the shortcomings started becoming more and more apparent.

I guess the most major issue I have with this game is that there is a paper-thin story. This is something that may not bother some but being a fan of RPGs it most definitely bothered me. You'll find yourself in the role of one of four selectable mercenaries on a remote planet called Pandora. Pandora in essence is a horrible place to live and was only colonized in order to mine mineral deposits. It's soon discovered that there's very little of value on the planet and most settlers with the means to do so simply leave the planet. Those that are left eek out a living Mad Max style. Bandits run amok in the Wasteland as do feral creatures known as Skaggs and a few more enemy types.

There are some alien ruins which rumor has it hold some sort of incredible power. That's why you find yourself on Pandora, investigating those alien ruins. Each of the four characters specializes in different things. Mordocai is a "hunter" class character who specializes in sniper rifles and best suited to engaging enemies from afar. Brick is a "berserker" and serves as the games tank character specializing in close range combat. Lilith is a "siren" and the games only female character. Her specialty is small arms and speed. Finally, Roland is the games "soldier" class specializing in machine guns. Each character also features a special ability Mordecai for example can use his pet eagle, Bloodwing to attack enemies. Roland can deploy a shielded sentry turret for taking down swarms of bad guys. Each character features their own skill trees and as you level up you can assign points in the skill tree to increase damage, accuracy, gain new abilities and inflict elemental damage. The upgrade system is pretty generic stuff that has been done in games before. The main problem with the characters and leveling system is that eventually every character feels exactly the same outside of their respective special attacks. So while you may start out playing Mordecai as a sniper, you'll eventually discover that he's just as good using a machine gun, rocket launcher or revolver.

That leads to other problems with the game. Because every class is a jack of all trades, playing online devolves into mindless shoot everything as fast as you can matches. Also because Borderlands doesn't feature much of a storyline and relies heavily on sidequests much of the game becomes a mindless shooting gallery. Go to town `X', speak with character `Y', go to location `Z' and retrieve `item q'. Rinse and repeat over and over and over again. It's mindless and while initially fun it gets old quick.

There are boss battles in the game which could've been so much more. The boss battles are ultimately mindless, run backward while blasting away affairs. It's funny that a gameplay mechanic perfected in Doom so many years ago is still being used in modern games like Borderlands.

The other much touted element of Borderlands that was much touted before release is the looting. Spread everywhere throughout the game is chests containing various types of guns and modifiers for your guns. The problem is that 99% of the stuff you find is garbage that's only purpose is to be sold in towns for money. Much of the game is simply spent running from chest to chest looting what you can carry, tossing less valuable items and moving to a town to sell those items. Occasionally you'll stumble on a rare item which is actually worth equipping. Again, the entire system is dull, monotonous and repetitive.

There are a few things about Borderlands that merits praise. The graphics art style is cell-shaded which I'm a fan of. The game is colorful and bright. The environments are significantly varies while maintaining a central theme. Gearbox did a fantastic job rendering the world of Pandora. If only they had made it an interesting place.

The online co-op is definitely the games saving grace. It's always fun to play online with a good friend, cracking jokes even if it is at the games expense.

Technically there are some glitches in the game. There are some well publicized trophy issues mainly the game not awarding trophies when it should. Additionally there are display glitches with the game where parts of the sky start to flash big blocky pixels of various colors. Another big issue was that that the game was resetting a characters stat level mid-way through after saving. So for example if I were playing as Mordecai and my sniper rifle level was mid-way through level 15 and I saved and quit the game. The next time I started a session my sniper rifle level would be reset to the beginning of level 15, wiping out a lot of progress. Problems like these are extremely frustrating particularly the leveling glitch.

All in all Borderlands will be loved by those that can overlook the games many, many problems and focus solely on the fun of the co-op element. To others I would strongly recommend buying Fallout 3 instead or getting a real RPG or just regular FPS. Borderlands is a rental at best.

I have been playing Madden since the genesis days and this is by far the worst disappointment i have ever felt with a football game period. I think that the game should have remained the same from the PS2 version just adding the motion sensitivity and better graphics.

Just to be fair lets start with the good,

1) Great graphics-

2) Smooth control

and now the bad-

1) NO MADDEN!!!!!!!!!

2) The play calling feature sucks and hard to see

3) cant make defensive formation changes

4) the commentary sucks

5) button configurations are horrible and when you try to change them it never comes out right.

6) no huddles have a video attached to them that kinda defeats the purpose of HURRY UP offense.

I think that i am so dissatisfied because i was so excited about the PS3 and the Madden, but EA put absolutely no thought into making this game. I think EA should stick to the formula of maddens of 'ol and if they dont at least put JOHN MADDEN commentary on it. REFUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are my biggest gripes:

What Disappoints me the most:

1. THERE ARE NO QUICK AUDIBLES ANYMORE! I thought that quick audibles (and the right stick individual player playmaker controls on defense) were the greatest...plus I loved being able to hold x and use the analog stick to change defensive player, now thats gone too ...and last, wheres the newly made slide protection that i love so much?

2. WHY DO THE CONTROLS KEEP CHANGING?! It took my a while to adapt to using X to sprint for both Defense and Offense..now its R2? Personally, after getting used to it, i loved being able to interchange sprint/pass with my QB just by pressing X...EA, please keep something constant for once!

3. THE PLAYBOOK LAYOUT I like that you can see more at once, but when playing offline vs. a real opponent, its a pain in the butt when they can see the play you're choosing

4. WHATS IS WITH THE NO HUDDLE MOVIE SCENE? Unless I'm wrong, the point of the no huddle is that your in a rush...someone please correct me if this isnt the case

5. IF I MISSED ANYTHING, OR YOU AGREE... Post after this, support the cause of Madden Gamers who have spent year after year playing basically the same game, and are now really ticked with the biggest overhaul EVER

I have never experienced such a betrayal by an individual title in all of my gaming experiences from back in the Atari days. I owned a PS2 and owned the Madden 07 title for that console, (5 stars by the way) but this has been most disappointing of all experiences.

Madden and the usual announcers are not there. Instead you get some crazy guy that sounds like a radio announcer. The game play is totally different, the franchise mode has lost over half of the cool functions of the game. Oh, did I mention that it has the same title as the PS2 version, but doesn't even come close to the quality of game play? The only thing that gives the game any credit is the graphics, and they look as if someone slapped it together in the 720 format hoping that the increase in definition would make up for the shortcomings. DO NOT purchase this title if you have owned previous Madden titles. I have owned them all for the series and this one is dead last in terms of game play and overall enjoyment.

I got this game the day it came out and I had to wait about 3 months to get a ps3 to play it and I got the 60GB. The first thing you are going to notice when you play the game is the shift from ps2 to ps3! Like the gameplay is slower than the lightning fast ps2 version and also the controls are different, like R2 is to sprint instead of X, but you'll get use to it. Also, the menus are hard to navigate and they sometimes freeze, like you'll be trying to view a teams roster and it won't let you go back to the menus. Second, the graphics are so cool but some of the players faces don't look like themselves and reggie bush's face, oh my gosh!, but he's fast with the cool highlight stick, also there are no referees or the chain people on the field and there is no net behind the field goal post and when you kick the ball and it is good it goes through like there is a net, now that is weird! But I recommend this game if you don't have this year's madden on a another platform or your new to video games and you like pro football. Well its just another year for us madden fans, but we are definitely hoping that madden 08 is going to way better.

I'll start by stating that I was a big fan of the Madden games until I played Sega's NFL 2K5 on the PS2. After EA bought the exclusive rights to the NFL games, I was rather peeved. Madden 2007 for the PS3 just enforces the reasons for my dismay.

Pros:

NFL foolball

Improved graphics from the previous generation of video game consoles (not by the leaps and bounds you'd expect though)

That's about it

Cons:

Graphics not up to the quality you'd expect from next gen technology.

Controls feel 'off', especially on defense.

change of the speed burst button from X to R2...this was very difficult to get used to.

create-a-player was ruined. Yeah, it was kind of cheap to be able to build the perfect player. Now you have to participate in drills to set your created player's attributes. While fine in theory, the drills (think scounting combine...bench press, 40yd dash, etc) weren't well executed. I really noticed the 'off' feel of the controls while running through a tackling drill with a LB. It was the same setup as the Mini-Camp drill from previous games (which I normally ruled at), but I could barely make a tackle. The players just didn't feel responsive.

Bottom line, this game felt rushed. I had a feeling EA would let the quality of their NFL game slip now that there's no competition. I can't even recommend renting this game, let alone buying it. It really seems that all of EA Sports titles are slipping greatly in terms of quality.
