I seriously enjoyed this game. I'm 2 gold rankings away from a Platinum and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The game is very silly, very fast, and throws a lot of Saints Row 1-3 knowledge at you that if you don't know, you may miss a reference here or there, but it definitely doesn't subtract from the gameplay.

There is a huge variety of weapons, vehicles (though you rarely drive), and of course the super powers are great.

The story does move along and while this is more of a tribute to the series, it does provide an adequate resolution to the story with a pretty fun final boss fight.

However, my game had freezing issues. I can't tell if it's my PS3 or the game anymore, but especially when I opened up the menu multiple times in a few seconds by accident it caused freezing. Luckily I never had a corrupted save game file or anything and the autosaves are frequently enough, but that alone subtracts a star.

I will also complain a little about the controls. I felt they could have utilized the controller better. You use your D pad to select a power and a single button to activate that power if it's a ground stop, aura, energy blast or telekinesis. This makes it very hard to use a variety of powers at once. I would have preferred that ground-stomp to be its own button or motion, At least, but also finding a unique way to active auras (let's say.. shaking the controller?) would have cleaned up the control scheme a bit. Instead of feeling overall super powered you simply feel like you're changing weapons.

That's it though.

In terms of the Game of the Generation edition The rotating case is awesome, the dubstep gun is a lot smaller than it looks but it makes for an awesome cat-toy (it shoots a red laser out), the Johnny Gatt statue is perfect (I actually keep it in side of the spinning case instead of the game), the bag to cover the spinning case is surprisingly high quality... and the Dubstep Button is a nifty addition. I definitely don't regret getting this version.

Saints Row IV is a silly over the top game that is a less serious version of grand theft auto. Once you start playing it is hard to put down.

Regardless what controversy you have heard surrounding this game, it is at its core, Saints Row. A phenomenal experience as you probably already know. Saints Row moved in to fill the open world gap left behind after GTA San Andreas revealed itself to be the last giant sandbox by R* that would reside in the irreverent, comical vein of the genre. Saints Row is an amazing experience. Four improves the formula and gives you pretty much everything you have ever wished for in open world game. Nearly limitless character customization. Great dialog and story (assuming you understand you are getting Saints Row). Best of all in this value driven age, a ton of replay value. There are always more things to discover in these games. As always, the soundtrack is diverse, enjoyable, and has something for everyone.

Really, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't get this game. If you know how to laugh and like to have fun, this could be your game of the generation as well.

What can I say....

played this game for hours!

I can't sleep....

Really absorbing.... lots of things to accomplish! Missions... mayhem, destruction.... haha Im so entertained!

I thought they had it with SR3 but SR4 takes the cake.

Better graphics, fluid controls.... freedom to do whatever you want.

Plus really appreciate the humor!

Still trembling as I type this.

The GoG edition has got to be the best collector edition for the year! The statue, display and wubwub gun are beautiful and a great conversation starter at dinner parties! If only they made the bendy dildo thing they featured in the game... haha

Get it!

This game delivers on all fronts I would compare mlb the show to the old mvp baseball games of ps2 fame and I would compare this to an old snes classic ken griffey jr. baseball with abit more of a simulation feel great game well worth the import.

This game is so good. The commentary obviously is in Japanese but it's almost like you know what they're saying. My only wish is that Konami would get the MLB license so I could play with my Phillies and have another option other than "THE SHOW". The gameplay is a mix between sim and arcade which makes a perfect blend for baseball. The animation and presentation are actually fun to watch. After every play if you hold down select you can watch replays on the fly. They're quick and awesome to watch when you turn two.. My Pro baseball Spirits 2013 arrives today and can't wait

I had previously bought an American Flag sticker kit for another controller and thought this would be a ice compliment for the 2nd player controller. I was disappointed a little because this one doesn't have crisp, clean graphics. It is a bit hazy looking an the flag looks more like a colored pencil drawing than a real image of a flag.

I purchased this to go with the Protective skins for FAT Playstation 3 System Console, PS3 Controller skin included REBEL that I purchased. After two years of heavy use, the skin is just now beginning to peel back around the "square" button. It matched the PS3 skin kit that I mentioned above perfectly, and hasn't faded at all over time. It looks great over my matte blue controller!

The stickers are forgiving enough to peel back off if placed poorly the first time, but somehow stick like they are part of the controller after you rub them down. If I remember correctly it was 5 individual stickers and they are pretty obvious where they belong.

The cutouts are precise and at first glance the skin looks like its how the controller is colored. Good product, impressive quality.. get one and you won't be disappointed.

I've always wanted to play, but didn't like the idea of paying and going to weekly classes. This game works like guitar hero/rock band. The best part is that as you are having fun with the game, you are learning how to play an actual guitar (not just a controller that looks like a guitar). Its much easier to pick up the guitar at home and turn on the game... especially if I have 15 minutes here and there. I am very satisfied!

Still learning how to play the guitar now, I'm a slow learner and haven't had much time to even get the basics. This has definitely taught me a lot about how to change your hand and finger placement while playing though.

Pro with this and a playstation console you have everything you need to start from ground zero.

Pro the game is amazing and a fantastic way to learn. The games force you to learn to feel the position of the frets and strings and this alone is worth the cost of the game

Pro The quality of the guitar is fine but not supercritical when starting from zero and you can begin your journey while you save up for a high quality instrument and become more familiar with the features you want in a guitar.

Con if you dont have a playstation console, the cost of learning this way jumps ...

but I took the plunge and bought a ps3 slim 250 GB just for this game and I feel that no other method of learning the guitar can compare to the ease of playing this game to learn.

I bought one of these sleeves a year or so ago at a local store. I can't find them anymore. Lucky to find them here and cheaper than before. This silicone sleeve has grips and gives the controller a whole new feel. No more slipping in your hands plus it is protected. I feel "naked" if I use a controller without one now. Well worth the price to me and I don't want to ever go back to a "bare" controller. Love it!!

I purchased two of these to protect my PS3 controllers. They are not as nice of a custom fit as I would have liked! There is a flap on the outside edge of the L2 and R2 buttons that is very annoying. Also, when I pulled these off to return them they ripped very easily. I do not recommend purchasing this product. If you want a controller sleeve get the ones officially licensed by Playstation. They are a much better product!

I really gave this a shot over weeks, and I really like the texture on this, but the silicone surrounding the sticks interferes with the complete range of motion, albeit slightly, but very annoying. Decided to chop off the grips area themselves, and permanently epoxy glue the textured area to the controller. Inelegant, but works better. I have found after using a variety of these products from different manufacturers that they all restrict full movement, and impede quick responses on the shoulder buttons. Last time I will invest in any of these, good idea, just cheap implementation.

I made the mistake of getting this one because I wanted a clear white one, and the set I bought before which are really awesome the Red Black & Blue Silicone Skin Case Combo

Copy and pastehttp://www.amazon.com/Black-Silicone-Combo-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B000RLXI1K/ref=pd_bxgy_vg_img_a

Don't come in white they are red 2 blacks and a blue, I know it says 3 but you get 4, and they are really cool they are much easier to put on... and they have a nice rubber feel...

This one, the white clear one, is one of the worst I have bought, it ripped while I was just trying to put it on, look at the pictures I uploaded in the product section, it also feels cheap compared to the other ones I bought, for $5.99 this is not worth your money it's a complete waste, get the 3 combo for like $6.99 which is an amazing deal, yes you pay some shipping but they are much better... trust me much, much better..

No need in thanking me, but I just saved you from being really disappointed, trust me this one is awful. you don't want this one.

I ordered this product at the same time I ordered a Red Silicone Skin also available on Amazon. Although this product is functional, I have no doubt that the red skin I ordered is a higher quality product and fits the controller better. When I placed my order, I ordered on of each because I was unsure which I would like better. If I could do it over I would order two of the red skins because I like it that much more.

This was a great deal when you consider the price for everything you get in the bundle. The game by itself is pretty cheap and I would consider it a solid buy for 20.00 or less if you don't need the Move Bundle. I have an 11 year old and a 16 year old and my wife and I had a blast playing this new years eve with them. My only wish would be for maybe 3 or 4 more mini games. The ones that it does have are very fun and you have the option to choose them individually to play or in a group of 5 or more where the game chooses which challenges you will face. There are separate difficulty settings for each player so it makes it very competitive regardless of skill. Also of note is hard as we tried the PS eye will not take a picture nearly as clear for your on screen avatar as you see on the box. Not a big deal though. Most the time we grabbed a stuffed animal or a picture or the dog and created a funny avatar. Yes it also records your voice and repeats whatever you call yourself when its your turn. Overall a great purchase!!

There hasn't been a game in quite some time that I thought was terrible, pretty much across the board, but 'Iron Man' managed to hit it.

From terribly repetitive levels with re-spawning enemies, to it unnatural flight controls and a bad targeting system; 'Iron Man' manages to fail at damn-near everything it tries to do. This is the best-example of every criticism of a "movie game" I've ever seen.

Sure, each level in the 'Iron Man' world is huge and gives a good impression of NOT being in a fish-bowl like some other games do. At the same time however, the graphics to that world are flat-out disgusting. In my opinion, for what is supposed to be a next-gen game, 'Iron Man' may be the worst-looking yet.

The ability to upgrade your armor is a nice new spin, but, unfortunately, just can't overcome the fact that everything else is going so completely wrong. Even the voice acting is lousy. Robert Downey Jr and Terrance Howard reprise their film roles and you can almost hear the indifference (or distain) in their voices. It's almost as if they realize how bad this is and want to get out as fast as possible.

To summarize ... the movie is absolutely terrific and gets my highest praise and recommendation. Take whatever you would have spent on the game and go see the movie again. For the REALLY curious, the (equally bad)demo is available on both xBox Live and The Playstation Network for free. Don't let this waste of a game ruin the film's experience for you by buying it ...

I rented Iron Man and gave it a test run, since the sticker price seemed a little steep. After playing for a few hours, I found myself wondering how a bug-ridden game like this ever got past beta testing.

I've listed the top offending errors below:

(1) Environmental errors: There was a section in the first level where I moved behind a fence. I came to the end of the fence but couldn't move past it, even though nothing was blocking my path. I had to loop all the way back and go around. This is a pretty basic error, and yet quality testing missed it not a good sign.

(2) Enemy detection errors: I was fighting a slew of enemies on the second level and before I could advance further, I had to eliminate all the ground troops. There was one left on my radar and I flew down to find he was....under the concrete. Yes, this enemy somehow fell UNDER THE CONCRETE. I had to reset and start the level all over again.

(3) Poor targeting system: The only way I could shoot a target is if the crosshairs were centered on an enemy at that specific moment. That means if Iron Man was running, flying, or dodging, it's pretty likely that my laser blasts or missiles would miss the target.

(4) Hyper-sensitive flight system: The flight controls operate on a hair trigger. If I pressed the hover button too hard, Iron Man shot straight up. If I pressed the hover button too lightly, he dropped like a stone. When I hit the flight button, Iron Man shot forward at Ludicrous Speed and I couldn't slow down. At all.

In a nutshell, I spent most of my game time flying around at breakneck speed with little control, trying not to slam into buildings, attempting to hit multiple enemies with a poor weapons system, while trying to break a time limit.

There's absolutely no justification to pay the asking price for this game. We, as video game consumers, deserve better.

Buy Iron Man Now

This game was beyond disapointment. Rather than a verbose explanation I'll just give you a numbered list to save some time for me and you:

1.) Graphics are pitiful and choppy

2.) Flight controls are not intuitive and difficult to master as best.

3.) Targeting and firing weapons is awkward.

4.) Controls are not very responsive at times and over sensitive at other times without even adjusting them.

5.) Levels drag on for ages when I just want to be done playing. This is mainly because their tends to be the same shock at the end of every level . . . "Oh no! Their using Stark Industries Tech against me . . . again"

I originally gave the game 2 stars and said "Perhaps the more I play I will find something I like, but so far the best thing about this game is the cover." Well, I've played more because there was one reviewer who claimed that it got better the more you played. I respectfully disagree with that review and have changed my review to 1 star after more play. This game is awful!

I have had it with this game. I bought it to have fun and just getting started is a pain in the neck. Every time I open the game and try to continue gameplay, it resets to the beginning. I know it's because I don't meet the time objectives, but give me a break. This was supposed to be fun. It's not. My copy will be on eBay later today.

Want Iron Man Discount?

First thing, this review and score is based on what I paid. The game is worth about $15. For that price, you'll have a good time! First thing I had to do once I started flying was set the motion detection all the way down in the options menu. That helped a bunch.

For the most part you fly all over the place shooting the crap out of everything. There is an auto lock on the firing, which makes the game easier. Flying is a tad difficult to get used to, so the auto lock makes it easier to concentrate on the flying.

I'd recommend it for a low price. Nothing over $17!

*I'd give it 4 stars, but the voice over with Stark while he has the mask on is almost unbearable. Dumb lines with a terrible voice.

Want PS3 Plug & Play Kit - Red Discount?

I own two of these plug & play kits and am ordering my third as I'm FINALLY getting a 3rd controller so my girlfriend and I can play with my nephew. Finding a good case/cover is card enough, this is a great cover...yes it changes colors, who cares...it grips well and comes with a lengthy USB cord. It's basically a gripping rubber type material that you stretch over the controller. I like that it's easy to take off/put on so I can take them off and put them in soapy water or what have you and let them dry for cleaning purposes. I have the red one (which does look more pinkish than red), the blue one (sky blue), and am now getting the orange. The colors aren't striking but they help you differentiate between controllers and keep them in excellent condition. I didn't get them to make my controllers look incredible, but they feel really nice, and that's what matters to me. Most of these covers are more expensive and don't even come with a cord...I love that I can sit on my couch and charge the controller, then when it's charged, just pull the cord out and game wirelessly. Both the cover and the cord for under $10? YES, buying my 3rd one NOW.

This review was written by my son, James Shea.

Koei is famous for games that take liberties with historical events (see also the Dynasty Warriors and Kessen games), and now they've turned their attention to the Hundred Years War. Despite the questionable accuracy of the history involved, Bladestorm is nonetheless a fun, solid game that introduces a lot of unique game mechanics different than any of Koei's other games.

As indicated by the name, Bladestorm takes place during the Hundred Years War, and features many of the personalities present at the time: Joan of Arc, Edward the Black Prince, Henry V, and so on. The historical accuracy is not especially important, however; there are a multitude of fictional characters added in to make things more interesting. Furthermore, the unit types encountered in this game are not exactly accurate: from simple soldiers like pikemen and swordsmen to the more exotic like camels and samurai to the outright fantastic like wizards. Really, the background just provides an excuse to have one side be the "red" side (England) and the other be the "blue" side (France), as other than specific personas there is really no difference between the two.

The player takes the role of a mercenary (whose gender, face, voice, and name can be customized) who fights for both sides. In addition, there are many other mercenaries with whom you work with or against, depending on the job. If you take a job with England, for example, your fellow mercenaries may take a job with you or choose to fight for France. In this way, your enemies are constantly shifting and changing. There are ten huge regions of France unlocked during the course of the game, each with at least thirty towns and settlements. These locations may belong to either England or France, and most of your missions revolve around capturing a town and/or defending a town. Taking a lot of missions for the same side in the same region can affect the balance of power in that region, at which point you can opt to fight for the other side and conquer it all back.

The gameplay is the most unique part of the game. The mercenary does not fight alone; rather, he takes command of a unit of soldiers (between 5 and 30). These soldiers can be regulars found on the battlefield, or mercenaries hired and summoned to fight for him. Regardless of which it is, the mercenary must have the proper instruction book for the unit to know how to use it. Furthermore, using a unit will level up that unit type. For example, the mercenary must have the book Swords to use any sword infantry, which includes one-handed, two-handed, sword-and-shield, and dual-sword. The specialties are unlocked through tomes, or sub-volumes to the larger books. Defeating enemies with a unit type gives them experience, which is used to buy upgrades to the unit. Depending on the type, this can be in attack power, defense power, troop number, or movement, as well as others. The unit types also have different strengths and weaknesses, as well. For example, pikemen are one of the best infantry against horse riders of any kind, but suffer against other infantry. In contrast, swordsmen are very good against infantry, but not so good against cavalry. A mix of units and proficiencies is required to succeed.

The unit itself is handled in the following manner: there are three special attacks, and a "fight at will" option. The special attacks include temporary strength or defense increases, raising shields to guard against enemy attacks, and even more exotic techniques like shooting blasts of energy. The "fight at will" option makes all the soldiers in your unit charge at the nearest enemy. Movement is controlled with the left analog stick; the soldiers do not have a formation, per se, but tend to stand in two boxes in front of the mercenary to guard him from the front and sides.

Unlike Dynasty Warriors, your allies are often fairly important in Bladestorm. Columns of troops, consisting of several types of squads, will set out from towns to attack nearby enemy towns (marked on the map as a large arrow going from one town to another). Players can join up with these columns to strengthen their own cause; while the mercenary may not get as much experience, he or she is covered by the diversity of units present. Capturing an enemy town requires the player to either slay a certain number of guard units or for an allied unit to enter the town (another advantage to traveling with allies). However, no allies can be commanded in the game; the player is a mercenary, not a general.

The graphics in this game are fantastic. Especially considering the wide variety of units and the number present on the screen, there is a huge amount of detail and effects on each soldier. The character designs range from feasibly accurate to ridiculous, but all are decently done. There is also a wide variety of armor for the player to buy, with many of the designs seeming reminiscent of games like "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess". The one complaint I have in this field is the large amount of effects that cover the game (thankfully, the damage numbers that pop up when anyone takes damage can be turned off). The sound is sweeping and epic, but doesn't distract from the game. The voices for the mercenary (three male, three female) quickly become familiar, though the ranges that can be picked are kind of wide considering how few there are.

As a whole, I was pleasantly surprised by this game. It's fun, it's well-done, it has good AI (not once has my unit ever become stuck on a wall, though allied units have done so once), and the only thing I can really say that's bad about it is the fact that it tried to be historically accurate at all. They should've just made it a fantasy game, so nobody would have to worry about the fact that there are ninjas and wizards present.

Rating: 9/10.

If you like the dynasty warriors series then you will probably like bladestorm too, if you stick with it long enough to get the controls. It is similar to a DW type game in many ways but is definitely not the same. In this one, you control and fight as a whole squad instead of one hero. You can change squads in the middle of a battle whenever you want. This game has a good leveling system and if you want to max all the different squads it is going to take a long time. I have played for over 50 hours and i still have a long way to go. The strategy isn't all that great but if you want to try something new and different in a DW/SW vein get this game.

Buy Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War Now

As of this writing, I have played about 30 hours of the game so far.

This game revolves around the 100 years war. These were a series of conflicts between the French and the English from the 14th-15th centuries. You play as a voiceless mercenary, male or female, as he/she attempts to carve a name for them self by taking contracts from either the English or French.

The game play is very similar to Kessen III, where you control one individual unit at a time. You can lead a variety of units, from Horses, archers, spearmen, swords, long spearmen (like pikes), among several others. They each have their own special attacks, which can greatly help in winning a battle.

However, you do not get to actually keep a unit for yourself in that you will mainly be taking a troop from whatever side you align yourself with in a given battle.

Instead of having one singular unit with its own skills, you get to build up your skills with whatever unit you choose based on the `books' you have. These books are named after the various units you get to control. You can assign skill points in each book based on how much experience you have with that unit. You can expend these experience points to upgrade various attributes such as attack, defense, etc. These skills are applied to a unit when you command them.

Unlike Kessen III, however, you play more as an individual than as a warlord. You do not get to issue orders to all the troops your side has on the field. You control only the unit your main character is in. Furthermore, you are allowed to separate yourself from your unit and fight (or runaway) as an individual. This can be very useful if you want to kill an enemy commander quickly or wish to abandon your men be slaughtered.

On the more technical side, the graphics are clearly superior to what you find on other KOEI games on the PS2. The music is very period-appropriate, with the voice-overs being mercifully more competent than you will find in any dynasty warriors (some of the French men need more work). The sounds come alive, such as the clanging of armor or the screams of dying soldiers. The troops are responsive to your commands, and the load times are not too bad. They are better if you choose the install option.

Most of the above is what I liked about this game. However, there are a few things that bother me about this game.

The text is one. I do not have an HDTV over 30 inches, just a regular 27 analog. Even so, the text should not be this small and hard to see (and am I the only one noticing this trend in recent video games)?

It can be argued that the game play can get repetitive at times, if crashing your troops into battle is considered repetitive. I personally like leading a group of troops to their victory/doom.

The 10 minute time limit for a battle is a little annoying. I would have preferred around 20 minutes, which would give you plenty of time to play through a battle. If you are using a slow unit like cannons or some sort of heavy foot soldiers, you will spend a good chunk of your time walking to your destination.

And while the mercenary experience can force one to fight for both countries in separate battles, I would have preferred the option of sticking to one country if given the chance. It hurt me (not as much as I hurt them) to have to turn my sword on my French compatriots to move the story along. This is a minor point, however, since you can quickly achieve your victory objective without doing too much harm to the French (or English, if that is your cup of tea).

All in all, this is a specific game for a specific type of gamer. If you enjoyed the Kessen series (not including the second one), the Three Kingdom series, or liked playing games such as Kingdom Under Fire; the Crusades, than I suggest picking this game up. If you do not like real-time strategy games or prefer more War Crafty-type ones, then ignore this title. Bladestorm is not for the average gamer.

***FOR A QUICK RECAP***

The Good: Fun military game play, good graphics, a variety of troop types to choose from, the option to fight as an individual, age-appropriate music, teaching those English or French the what-to.

The Bad: Small text, having to play both sides eventually, 10 minute time limit

The Ugly: The Black Prince looks exactly like Akechi Mitsuhide; Running into a wall of long spears with horses ; most of the French accents.

It's often been said that Koei does the same thing over and over, and that they need something new. Here Koei tried something very new: instead of the one-man-army of the Musou series, you play a mercenary commander who tips the scales of war in a tactical action game. Bladestorm received some bad press, but I think the reason was that people saw 'Koei' and thought 'Dynasty Warriors'. While there is solid action, this game is truly one of its own and an excellent addition to any action and strategy fan give it a chance, don't take it as a 'Musou knockoff' and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Like its title implies, Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War draws loosely from history. Though some liberties were taken, nothing felt amiss. The only problem was the fact that you as the player control a 'nameless mercenary' and rarely will you be directly credited with the victories that you participate in: instead, you'll get a brief blip about the historical progression, and that minor feeling of lack of impact is really the only thing I fault this game for. However, the game does a good job of showing that while you may be an intelligent and powerful person you are still just one in an army.

Story: 6.0/10

Having been watching graphics improve from the sidelines from the Nintendo Entertainment System to the Playstation 2, I knew that things were going to get better, but I had no idea how much better. Even without playing on a Hi-Def-capable screen I felt my jaw drop at the astounding quality. Action is smooth and I have never seen a second of slowdown even during fierce skirmishes including literally hundreds of soldiers from cavalry to archers. I've heard Xbox owners say that the game slows down sometimes, but I've never once seen it slow on the PS3 otherwise, I'd say the editions are pretty much identical. The only complaint that I have is that text can be too small and hard to read.

Graphics: 8.7/10

With all of the undeserved negative reception that this game received, I was leaning against enjoying it. Despite my initial expectations, Bladestorm proved that it holds its own and the sound works very will with the graphics to create an atmosphere that truly makes you feel like you're in the midst of a Middle-Age war, complete with blade clanging against shield and arrows flitting through the air. If you're still not satisfied with the high quality, you can independently alter the volumes of the voices, sound effects, and background music. Voice acting, while nothing that will make you jump out of your seat, is satisfyingly solid.

Sound: 8.8/10

I feared the score would contain bad techno/pop-rock like other Koei titles, but to my pleasant surprise Jamie Christopherson composed a wonderful soundtrack harkening to the Romantic Period of music, conveying the powerful scale and emotional intensity of a war tearing two nations apart. The only disappointment was that some of the music seemed relatively soft I liked it so much I had the volume maxed perpetually. Even if you're not a fan of Romantic Period music, you should find it appropriate, and you have the option of muting it alone while leaving other sounds at your preference.

Music: 9.6/10

My lack of experience with Koei games was probably a help here, as my only other sample was Warriors Orochi, so I felt free to let Bladestorm be its own game. Instead of playing one man who plows through an army, you play a mercenary commander who takes charge of British or French squads (depending on which contract you're playing at the moment). Aggressively attacking squads yours is effective against and knowing when to retreat when spotting squads strong against yours are key to victory, and the rock-paper-scissors lent the solidly action-packed game a unique flavor of strategy that I could only compare somewhat to Fire Emblem. The only thing I didn't like was the 'randomly generated' nature of some progression and acquisition meant it could be a while before that next story mission appears or that last shard of Aegis Shield falls in your hands.

Gameplay: 8.5/10

Randomly-generated contracts allow you to play essentially at your own pace from beginning and past the end of the story missions, but since there is no "New Game Plus" there really isn't a reason to start up a new game instead of just loading a completed one, except to see the in-game cinematics again or end with the opposite side. Still, you do get to keep playing past the end of the story.

Replayability: 4/10

I almost didn't purchase this game, but now that I have it to enjoy I'm glad that I did. The tactical squad-based action, ability to seize then scatter friendly troops, and the sense of satisfaction when your men finish dueling the enemy Base Commander and subsequent seizure of an entire fortified city are things I've never seen in another game. As solid as this game is and as beautiful the music, the inability to do things like review cinematics (most of which are well-rendered using the game engine), play as alternative characters (you're stuck as the mercenary), and the lack of any significant post-battle acknowledgement for my role in the victory (most of the talk is between nobles, which is true to the period) are easily forgiven.

Overall: 8.6/10

Want Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War Discount?

The game is, at its core, an able action-tactics piece set in a little-used (for games, anyway) historical period that nicely compliments the playstyle. The 'sensation' of combat in the Hundred Years' War--if not always the details--is spot on, and it gives a very good sense of leading troops of men into pitched melees, constantly ordering different types of soldiers to execute tactical maneuvers to counter the enemy's own.

An example of this in play would be charging into battle at the fore of a cavalry group to run down enemy infantry, only to have to fall back while being showered with arrows. Then you might bring in shield-bearing swordsmen in the blink of an eye to advance on the archers, only to have enemy cavalry plow through your shield wall after you reach them, forcing you to quickly muster a group of pikemen to form a hedge against them while your own archers pick them off. Then the enemy's light infantry circles around your pike wall to take them by surprise and slaughter your archers, and you have to bring in your own heavy infantry to run them off...

This, at least to me, seems like it captures the essence of the war very well. The only problem is there are a lot of non-historical 'fun' units--war elephants, chariots, chakram-wielding martial artists and 'magical' alchemists--which, unfortunately, while you can choose not to use yourself you really can't stop the enemy from using. A few of the 'historical' characters are a bit spotty, too, but they can be excused for the sake of adding some drama and color to what would otherwise be a pretty stale war simulation.

Another issue that arises is a somewhat weak story. The idea of making the player a mercenary that plays both sides might have had potential, but ultimately it pans out a lot weaker than simply having two dedicated storylines (one for each side) would have. There's honestly too much poorly-acted mercenary fluff, too, to such an extreme extent that the Hundred Years' War itself almost seems to take a backseat to random gibberish about characters who barely impact the game and didn't impact the real war much at all.

Speaking of which, the sometimes-decent cast is largely wasted. There are some interesting characters and scenes, but they're always little more than extra-large HP totals in practice, so you'll probably never develop any attachment to them. As with most areas, the game is competently executed in this regard but could have stood with serious improvement, such as some system for tracking and developing 'allegiances' or 'affinities' with other mercenaries and legendary soldiers of the war. As it is, you can kill them all day long or save their lives in a hundred battles, and it never seems to make a bit of difference.

I have not purchased this version yet because I have spent hours laboring in the original and was leary about losing my save files. Rest assured for anyone that is looking to procure the DLC on disk your original is supposed to be compatible with this. Below is the letter from Bethesda:

The DLC for Skyrim was released on the PSN in February. The Legendary Edition is compatible with your current saves, so you'll be able to enjoy the DLC either way you decide to purchase it!

Hope this helps out anyone who is on the fence about buying this terrific game!

As a game by itself, Skyrim is an epic Action RPG with one of the most richly details words on videogame history. But the key point of the Legendary Edition for the Playstation 3 is that PS3 users finally have access to all of the Downloadable Content that was only released for the X-Box360 Consuls. This are the Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn editions. All three are loaded into the game by 1, so you can add as much as you want when you want. Also, the latest "Patches" are also installed automatically (programming upgrades that fixed many of the bugs found in the original game) so things run a lot smoother.

Specific Information: Dawnguard is a new storyline about the reformation of a famous clan of Vampire Hunters and their struggle against a growing Vampire invasion and attempted conquest of the world. You can join either side and change the shape of the game. This gets you a host of new weapons (featuring the Crossbow) armor and Followers, including Armored Trolls, war Huskys and Hell Hounds as well as the chance to become an even more powerful form of vampire. (Even having access to perks for being a Vampire or Werewolf) Hearthfire is literally very close to home. You have the ability to Build your own properties literally from the ground up. The original game included locations you could purchase to live in, either by progressing in the Civil War Storyline or becoming a Thane in the five major Holds of Skyrim. Hearthfire allows you to buy and develop different plots of land form 3 of the four holds you could formerly not but property from (Only Winterhold has nothing to offer you but you still have a bed at the Mage's College). These new properties can be build upon using new materials designed just for building, you can mine for Clay and Quarried Stone and buy logs from Saw Mills, to build humble dwellings for 1 or giant halls each with three wings, an entranceway and a dug out cellar. If you have the materials; you can customize you mansions with a large selection of decorations, containers, furniture, crafting stations (The cellar can be turned into a Full Blackmith station, with Forge, Grindstone, Workbench, Tanning Rack and a Smelter). You can also hire Stewards to buy animals, hire a bard for your property, a horse, carriage and do other various tasks. Hearthfire also adds the ability to adopt children. You can adopt the kids from Honorhall Orphanage after assassinating Grelod the "Kind" or you can adopt some of the various orphans found wandering the streets of certain cities. Finally Dragonborn adds another impressive quest surrounding a Cult that worships another as the Dragonborn and believe your some sort of fluke and do everything in their power to exterminate you in preparation for the true coming of the Nordic Legend. Even travel back to the cursed island outside of Morrowind. All in all, if you have Skyrim for the Ps3 and yearn for all the bonuses the X-Box had, this is your chance to get them.

If you never played Skyrim before, please start right here with all the above extras plus all the amazing content in the original: Seek your true destiny as the Dragonborn, a legendary figure who can take the souls of vanquished Dragons and use their powers. Delve into the darkness of the assassin group, the Dark Brotherhood and try to survive their life or death contract killings and the power struggle between the followers of the Brootherhood's ancient ways and those following the power hungry Astrid, bent on ruling it with an iron fist rather then bothering with tradition. Join up with the Thieve's Guild and make coin the less-then honest way while uncovering a conspiracy that proves there is no honor among thieves. Enroll in the Mage's College of Winterhold and perfect your magical abilities and rid the school of a corrupt interloper. Or become one of the Companions, the greatest brotherhood of warriors throughout Tamriel and fight for honor glory and your Shield Brothers and Sisters. Choose to obey or refute the dark gods of the realm of Oblivion, earning the respect or ire of the Daedric Princes. And of course, save the world from the ongrowing threat of the most awesome forces to ever threaten the world of Tamriel; The Eater of Worlds, Alduin the Dragon lord. If your not already a fan of the game or the series, this is the perfect place to start, while longtime veterans would probably regret not getting the full experience. However, it IS very pricey for the DLC but most die hard Elder Scrolls Lovers will probably feel it's worth it, especially because you can't just download the updates from the internet. And those who have no ability to connect their PS3 to the internet (there seems to be a lot of people like that, including me) this physical disc is the only way to access these extras.

The game is very fascinating, especially when I didn't get the chance to play the original. This ones comes with all the DLC, which is a plus for anyone who didn't get them yet. I've played many other games by Bethesda, and this one doesn't disappoint. It is very well crafted and enjoyable. The quests are fun and vary in content. The enemies are memorable and the combat (though not the best) is still fun. You get all kinds of things to do and see. You could explore this land and not get bored once you finish. There are framerate issues but it doesn't drive the player away from the experience. I suggest this game to anyone who loves RPG games because it truly is a masterpiece in itself.

I have a lot to say about this game! I checked out reviews before I bought it, looked at the ratings people left for it and decided to get the legendary edition since it had the extra DLC included. I have played over 60 hours so far and have a lot of trouble quitting once I start playing. I wanted to write a review that goes over different aspects of the game for someone that is a hardcore gamer like me. I also wanted to note that I used to play World of Warcraft years ago and the things I like about Skyrim are that it reminds me of WOW in that I get lost in the game but I like that I don't have to deal with other players and I can also play it without having to log in every day.

-Graphics

When I first started playing the game, (I am not going to be giving away any spoilers) I was so distracted by how real the graphics looked that I almost missed part of the dialogue. Everything from the dragons to other characters and the cities looks real, so it's easy to become immersed in the game's world. I used to be able to play for 8 hours in a day and now I just get to play about 2-3 hours if I'm lucky since I'm married. I had a day off of work where I played for 6 hours (not straight) and I still wanted to play more. So basically, the graphics are awesome and you can interact with almost anything in the game, I will talk about that later when I get into the controls.

-Sound

One of my favorite things about the game is the music that changes when you encounter animals/people that want to kill you or a dragon flies overhead. That's another fun thing, the dragons will drop out of the sky out of nowhere to kill you, it's very distracting when you're on a quest but also fun. The characters all have voices that you have to listen to, even though you can change it so there are subtitles. One thing I am not crazy about is that all the guards seem to sound the same no matter where you go. You would think that guards on opposite sides of the map would have different accents just like people from different parts of the country in the U.S.

-Gameplay

I think I have talked about a lot of the gameplay stuff already but there are a few more things I want to mention. Quests are fun and the game has a system where you can mark which quests you want to do and display on the map where to go to do it. The game comes with a map in the case but I realized after I played a while that you don't need it and it only shows the major cities/towns on it. I also think it's fun when guards or people in towns will tell you about a monster they saw or someplace to investigate and your map will show the location. It's hard not to race off to check it out right away. Also, I play a mage and it's cool that you can either hire people to help you out or have someone become your housecarl (I call them my slave >=) ) and fight the enemies for you while you stand back and cast spells. I have already been through a horse and a lady named Lydia that becomes your housecarl when you become the Thane of whiterun (it's like an honorary title.)

-Controls

I like the controls in the game, how you can assign different spells or weapons to each hand and also the favorite menu. That is just something where you can use the old school directional pad to assign spells, weapons or scrolls for quick access during a fight. The game will pause while you pick out the right spell/weapon. It would be nice if there was a hot button option like on a keyboard but that's one of the limitations of playing on a PS3 compared to a PC. I am on a PC all day at my job so I don't like to be on one when I come home. I also want to mention that you can pick up food, plates/cups, loot a whole treasure chest or pick and choose your items, and sit on benches or chairs throughout the game. You can also steal which will get you a bounty if someone sees you I think. I try to be a good law-abiding citizen and avoid jail so I am not sure of what constitutes a higher bounty.

-Monsters/enemies

There are a whole range of bad guys/things in the game from wolves and bears to various undead, machines and of course humans that want to kill you. I like the variety of enemies in the game and think they did a good job of creating them. You will be randomly walking along and be attacked by a bear/saber cat and with myself being a mage, I will be killed in two hits. It helps to have a helper/tank along with you to focus the enemy's attention. And then there are the dragons, my heart always beats faster when one of them swoops out of the sky. You bascially fight it, absorb it's soul, then can use dragon souls to unlock shouts, which are special abilities that let you do things like freeze enemies solid or use a burst of speed. You have to find the walls with the dragon writing on them to learn a shout though, even though you might not be able to use it at the time. Ok, now I'm getting distracted, I also want to say that the AI in the game is pretty good, if you are using cover the enemies will come and get you, and the dragons will circle around until they find a good landing spot and try to fry/freeze you with their breath or lumber over to you to try to bite you.

-Crafting/collecting

One of things that I can do for hours in the game is crafting. There is smithing, alchemy, enchanting and cooking. I haven't gotten into cooking at all as it seems kind of pointless, but alchemy is good for creating potions that you can either sell or use, enchanting is a good way to make your weapons/armor stronger and smithing is a good way to make money or create better armor for yourself instead of waiting to find it in a treasure chest or buying it. I wanted to mention collecting too because you will spend a lot of time doing that if you take up alchemy. The shops have a limited inventory and there are plenty of ingredients to collect in the game. Also for smithing it's easier to go and mine ore instead of buying it at the shops. I am a cheapskate so I never want to spend any money, and the adventure of finding a mine or collecting ingredients is fun and you will often discover places you didn't know existed. Crafting will increase your level in the game too but I try to keep a balance between that and adventuring.

-Skills

There is something called skills in the game and they are basically things that you choose to level up every time you increase in level. There are a whole bunch and I'm not going to list them here, but they do everything from allowing you to cast versions of more powerful spells, to being able to create better armor, to being able to create better versions of potions/enchantments. You also get to choose to level up magicka(mana), health or stamina every time you level.

-Leveling system

Not much to say about this, except I think it's a neat idea that not just adventuring gets you experience, if you get a crafting skill or a magic/weapon skill to the next level, your experience bar will go up. Sometimes you can level up while you are smithing. Also, there are books that will increase your level in a particular magic/skill, like destruction magic or one-handed weapons. This is an interesting idea and it adds something else to the game since you want to find all the books you can and read them once you discover this.

-Glitches/saving issues

I had read a lot of people's reviews from when the game first came out and that's why I got the legendary edition, to make sure all the bugs had been worked out. I have logged over 60 hours and only noticed a couple things: one time I jumped and was floating but I fixed it when I jumped again, and another time a cow was glitching up and down really fast until I got close to it. Other than that, I haven't seen ONE THING WRONG with the game. I will come back and provide an update when I have more hours logged but on my PS3 it runs beautifully and it might be the game I got or the ps3 I have (I got the 120 GB one in 2009), but I have no problems. One thing I do want to mention that might have made a difference is I turned off the autosave feature because I read that this causes problems. The only problem I have now is sometimes I will get killed and lose the last half hour of play time so I make sure to save whenever I enter a town or before a big fight.

In conclusion, I could talk about this game forever as you have seen. I love it and have a lot of trouble with not wanting to play it all the time. I am 33 and have been playing games for over 20 years and haven't been so addicted to a game in a long time. If you are looking for a good game and you like fantasy or adventure games like me, I would highly recommend this one! I haven't even touched the add ons yet that come with the game but I will write an update once I have a lot more hours logged in the game to comment on the expansions and also if I see any glitches. I hope this review helped!

This is hands down the best RB/GH Guitar Controller my family has tried. And we have tried many on multiple systems for both Rock Band I and II as well as the various Guitar Hero versions.

The guitar is full sized with the look, weight and feel of a real guitar. Probably too large and heavy for smaller children, but not a problem for older children, teenagers and adults. The neck is full length, but the fret buttons are well placed for smaller players.

The included strap stays on, but is a little short for taller players or those who like to wear the guitar below the waist. So if that is you, then you might want to pick up a full sized strap.

The fret buttons do not detract from the "real guitar" look. The neck and body finish is beautiful and truly makes this controller stand out from the rest. The high gloss finish is a fingerprint magnet, but so is any guality, high gloss guitar finish.

Now how does it play? Wonderfully! First let me say that it does work on both the PS2 and PS3 for both game lines. You can connect it either wired or wireless and it comes with the necessary adapters and cable. A soft blue light by the strum bar lets you know you're connected.

Now, no one provides everything. So a quick word about connecting. When playing on a PS2, the controller uses a USB Port for full functionality with Rock Band I/II. But it uses a Controller Port if you're playing a flavor of Guitar Hero. So if you're out of controller or USB ports, you may want to pick up either a small USB hub or MultiTap (Multiport) adapter or both. If you're playing on the PS3, the controller uses the USB connection for all games.

The reslistic size and weight make controlling and using this guitar solid and in my opinion easier. Especially if you like to move around when you play. Just remember it's solid wood, not plastic. So be careful to watch out for family, friends, furniture and the family pet if you really like to jump around.

The action on all the buttons and controls is smooth and sure. The strum bar has that distinct click so you know you hit the note. It is also very accurate and did take a little getting used to. But once you do, you'll never want to go back. The whammy bar control is well placed and more sturdy than the others we've used.

Strummers sometimes complain the Overdrive button is difficult to hit. Now, I typically play bass and when strumming up with two fingers the button is placed perfectly. Except possibly during the most intense riffs. Still, in either case, you can always tip the guitar using the accurate internal tilt switch instead. And no contortions are necessary. Raising the neck about 45 degrees will do.

The Start and Select buttons are well placed, out of the way and recessed to eliminate accidental hits during even the most frenzied strumming. In addition, their design and placement adds to the "real guitar" look. The controller does lack a directional button, but this has not been an issue for me. You can always use a controller with this if you need to. So far I haven't. The 5 position switch is smooth while at the same time stiff enough to let you know the position has changed and it is in the correct place.

Due to the power save feature, you may find yourself "Out of control" on a regular basis while waiting on someone else to "get ready". But a quick light tap on the start button and you're instantly back in business (no delays with wireless reconnections) and as a result, battery life thus far is great. We've been using this several hours a day for a week and are still on the first set (3 AAA) of batteries.

Now, according to news reports, a certain retailer (Circuit City) recently filed for Bankruptcy protection. As a result, the Peak website states that Peak will not honor the warranty if you purchased your controller from that retailer. One must assume Peak is one of the creditors waiting on the outcome of the Bankruptcy filing to receive money owed them.

Regardless, I also purchased a defective controller from that retailer. So I called the good folks at Peak, and after returning the defective controller to the place of purchase for a full refund, Peak sold me the same controller for the same price and shipped it to me for free. They were wonderful to deal with and extremely understanding and responsive to my dilema.

Was it a hassle? Of course, but no more so than buying a defective product from anywhere else. That's never enjoyable, especially when it's something you're really looking forward to having/using. But as a result of their excellent customer service, Peak has earned my ongoing support and I will definately be purchasing their products in the future.

Well, I guess there's nothging left to say except, forget the others, buy this and "Rock On Dudes" or "Dudettes", whichever the case may be....

It's only been in the past 4 months that I've discovered Guitar Hero and Rock Band for myself... and have become completely enamoured (and obsessed) with the games.

My first "guitar" was the Gibson Les Paul mock-up that comes packaged with Guitar Hero III -and my second, the unnamed Guitar Hero World Tour guitar, which I found a major improvement in size and function over the Les Paul. I had since tried the Rock Band guitars, but dont own one. I didnt see the need to buy any more "toy guitars" as it was.

However, I stumbled upon this model online (and one by Logitech) both touting to be a more realistic experience, as both being a full-size solid-wood construction. And then I saw the price tags... $130-$180 for the Peak, and $225-$280 for the Logitech... I thought to myself "Nothing could be worth those prices for a video game controller". Despite what the reviews were saying. However, when I noticed an amazing deal on the Peak at a huge discount ($40 not on Amazon, so dont bother waiting for it) I took a gamble and ordered one. (you cant buy the Les Paul for that price)

WOW! What a HUGE difference this guitar makes over the plastic models. As other reviews (and Peak's own promotional material) have stated; it offers a more "realisitic feel" to playing guitar.

Now, to put my opinions to follow into perspective... Keep in mind that if you add up all the times I have ever held a "real" guitar in my entire life, it might add up to about 40 minutes. So by no means am I accustomed to holding an actual guitar. Some have, and they say the Peak is a more natural feel. Here's my take on "natural":

Based on my lack of "real guitar" experience, I can't say for sure, but I would have to agree that this somehow does feel more authentic. The neck is longer (full size) and the weight and balance of the instrument, as well as how it hangs and how you hold it, all adds up to a more 'natural' position and a more comfortable feel.

Granted if you are accustomed to the bundled plastic guitars, handling the Peak will take some getting used to (all of about of 20-40 minutes of play). Once you do get used to the feel of it, picking up the plastic guitars feels somewhat "wrong" at that point. PLaying with the Peak for any length of time that you appreciate it's posture and comfort, begins to spoil you.

Comfort and feel aside, the Peak functions perfectly as a "generic clone" to operate both Guitar Hero and Rock Band brands of games. It operates all the games' features including the effect selector and solo-buttons in Rock Band. The Star Power/Overdrive can be activated by tilt (of course) and the conveniently located Star Power/Overdrive button near the strum bar. The Peak does however lack the slider bar found on the recent GH:World Tour stock guitar... so it obviously cannot function there. (However, it's my experience that the slider bar is more trouble than it's worth... I just hammer-on the notes from the regular fret buttons even with the supplied guitar)

The quality of the craftsmanship is also evident here. The overall feel of the fret buttons are firm, but not stiff. The push easily but are not mushy or even "loose" fitting. They are quiet to push, and don't rattle when you release them or slide up and down the fret. As well, the strum bar has the perfect amount of spring in it. It's obviously been tuned to strum accurately and quickly. And I'd say the same thing about the wammy bar... just a perfect feel, location, and tension.

Granted I only paid $40 for my Peak, and in retrospect now, I should have bought two at that price. But not knowing at the time what I would think of it, I only ordered one. However, I would easily pay $130 to replace mine should something happen to it and thus can easily recommend it at this price.

To compare, I'm not so sure the Logitech offers much of a benefit over the Peak considering it's price point. Sure the Logitech is "Guitar Hero" branded and licensed. As such, it lacks the Rock Band added functions, but it does indeed have the slider-bar for use in Guitar Hero World Tour. However, as I mentioned the slider bar is more of a nuisance. Considering that the Logitech is twice the price of the Peak, and seeing how impressed I am with the Peak, I can't see how doubling the price can offer that much of a benefit.

That being said, I have no quams about recommendeding the Peak to anyone who is a moderate fan of these games. When you consider that the plastic guitars sell for $50-60 anyway... to get what is easily 5x the instrument/controller for twice the price is worth it in my books.

I would go so far as to suggest that anyone who has not bought the games, buy this guitar, and buy the games-only editions without the packaged plastic guitars -or better still, make your friends use the plastic guitar. This one is for you alone.

Solid recommondation.

For reference, I've used the stock RB 2 guitar, the Warbeast, and the Starpex Peak). I play on Expert, 5-starring all but the hardest songs. I'm a big guy, so the stock guitar was never comfortable for me, and I'll ignore it here. I'll compare and contrast the Peak and Warbeast both of which I've used for over a year.

Build Winner: Peak

* The wooden construction of the Peak is undeniably better than the plastic construction of the Warbeast. I have disassembled the Peak completely and rebuilt it. It's not an absolute marvel of engineering or anything, but it went back together just as solid as it was originally. Purely subjectively, I vastly prefer the classic styling of the Peak to the angular "metal" styling of the Warbeast; also, when I play sitting down, the Warbeast jabs me in the leg, and the Peak doesn't.

* In its column, the Warbeast easily disassembles for slightly more portability. In most cases this won't matter, but (for instance) the Warbeast could be carried in a suitcase, while the Peak can't be. The cap on the Warbeast's distortion-slider pops off too easily.

Strummer Winner: Warbeast

* While a good strummer with fine tactile feedback, the Peak's strummer occasionally bounces on me, blowing an ongoing combo. To be very fair, this is partially because I'm just not exceptionally coordinated when playing very fast notes. The same slightly higher "give" to the strummer does make alt-strumming easier on the Peak, however.

* It's difficult to describe, but the Warbeast's strummer has a slightly fatter triangular-prism design that feels better under finger or thumb than the Peak. It's also slightly stiffer. The stiffness is a good thing when it comes to not bouncing, but I've noticed that (especially when playing Bass) it does cause fatigue more quickly. Overall, though, I feel like I have more control with the Warbeast's strummer.

Frets Winner: Peak

* The frets on the Peak are wooden and raised, leaving small empty gaps between. The total length of the five frets is exactly the same as on the Warbeast, but because of the gaps, the frets are very slightly narrower. I immediately preferred the feel of the Peak, and while I can now switch between it and the Warbeast without missing a beat -ha! -some of the less experienced players at our Rock Band parties have said the gaps in the Peak's frets make them "lose their fingers" more easily. One bad thing: I've owned two Peaks, and the frets on both had a problem with sticking. It's a subtle problem, and actually took me a little while to figure out. Anyway, I used spray silicone a year ago on my current Peak and haven't had a sticky fret since.

* The Warbeast differentiates its frets by a slightly raised divider, rather than a gap. The frets are wider than the Peak. In our games, the most experienced players all like the way the Peak does its frets, while the less experienced players tend to prefer the Warbeast. The Warbeast's frets are "clickier," which I don't like. Also, after nearly two years of use, the Warbeast had its very sticky fret last week. I spray-siliconed it, and it hasn't been a problem since.

Overdrive Winner: Peak

* The Peak's tilt-sensor works perfectly. The button is, for my hand placement, in an inconvenient location, so I never use it. I actually prefer a stomp-pedal for Overdrive, which the Peak can accomodate, but the Warbeast cannot.

* The Warbeast's tilt-sensor is persnickety, and frankly drives me insane with its (from my perspective) random firing. Some other players actually have trouble getting it to fire, so I dunno what the deal is. The button, though, is well placed, triggerable with the heel of my hand as I play. (Honestly, if I could I'd disable the Warbeast's tilt-sensor and use the button.) The Warbeast has no port to take an Overdrive pedal.

Use as Controller Winner: Warbeast

* The Peak does not have a D-pad. This is occasionally inconvenient, but not a big deal.

* The Warbeast does have a D-pad and can function as a full controller in the game.

Battery Life Winner: Tie

* I haven't seen a noticeable difference. I replace the Peak's batteries more often, but it also gets used much, much more than the Warbeast.

Other Issues -

* Spring The Peak's whammy-bar comes with a very cheap spring. It's broken three times over two years of use. The latest time, I disassembled the guitar and used a much heavier spring. IMO, this improved the feel of the whammy-bar. (This is easy to do, BTW ... I'm not a Mr. Fix-It at *all*. You'll want a spring with an overall length of 0.5", though if need be you can use a slightly longer one and crimp the connector loops with a needle-nose.)

* Rust If you sweat while playing, the Peak's metals parts will lightly rust.

* Connection Issues -

The Peak times out quickly. This is great for battery life, and usually only an inconvenience, because it reconnects with the press of a button. But in Rock Band 2 that interrupts anything (like choosing songs) going on on-screen. Also, it can happen during songs, if the guitar doesn't have a part for a while. You can avoid the timeout in all cases by just tapping on a meaningless button, or sliding the distorter, or whatever. Timeouts still happen with Rock Band 3, but because of the new "Overshell," it's no longer interrupts anything.

The Warbeast occasionally has connection problems, fixable only by unplugging and replugging into the USB, sometimes multiple times. (You will think you have a low battery, but chances are you don't.) This only became an issue when the dongle was plugged in during Rock Band 2 software updates. We eventually began removing the dongle before running updates. An update once completely fried the dongle, but I contacted Dreamgear and they sent me a replacement immediately. (They indicated this was a known issue, BTW.) We also noticed that the Warbeast doesn't play well with larger-capacity USB hubs. (It became an issue when we upped to a 7-port hub.)

Awesome guitar. It's heavy and full size. Great for my hubby who has bigger hands than me. Also works with guitar Hero since it comes with adapters.

I really enjoyed using my Peak Starpex Obsidian controller for about 5 months or so. Aside from a poor up-strum, the guitar worked great. I always played with the solo buttons but I tried out the regular buttons and they seemed to work just fine. Then one day my ps3 dongle stopped working. It would power the guitar but it wouldn't recognize it as a controller. I felt sad and emailed to people at Peak about acquiring a replacement but the never got back to me. Then their website went down. I bought another ps2/ps3 adapter and it recognized the guitar as a controller, but not a guitar controller. I've searched out other ps2 guitar adapters and have read that firmware update 2.7 (or something like that) has rendered many adapters useless so I've been hesitant on buying more adapters as a collection of ps2/ps3 dongles really does me no good.
