Genji Days of the Blade is probably most notorious for its silly E3 demonstration. The speaker talked about how it portrayed authentic feudal Japanese battles involving Giant Enemy Crabs :) He also talked about novel concepts such as "attacking its weak point for maximum damage" and how you could do (gasp) REAL TIME weapons change in the game. This last item actually looks very silly you could be swinging one sword, hit a button and MID SWING the sword changes into a new weapon.

In general, this is a fighting game set in PRE feudal Japan, i.e. 1187. I ran a Feudal Japan newsletter for many years, and feudal Japan was the 1500s, the days of Oda Nobunaga and the wars then. Back in 1187, there was a quite different government setup. If you're curious about this time period, read The Tale of Genji sometime by Lady Murasaki this is acclaimed by many as the first novel ever written. It was written back in the 11th century! It's a great read even today, which is quite an achievement.

So back to the gameplay. You play a young two-sword warrior and have as your pals an older warrior, a female warrior and a war-god turned spellcasting warrior :) You fight through various Japanese landscapes and settings, taking on the Bad Guys. You have your combat techniques and magical powers to help you triumph.

The graphics are very impressive. In the cut scenes, you can see the fabric weaves on the layers of kimono, the metallic sparkle in the lacquerware, the rippling heat waves by the fire. During gameplay the character movements were fluid and natural. Fabric pieces would sway and tiny, glistening sparks would float on the air. Some scenes were really quite lovely in a painting sort of way.

Gameplay itself involves slicing with swords, chaining up attacks and blocking. There are, a la the Giant Enemy Crab, situations where you have to Attack the Weak Point for Maximum Damage. I didn't like the HUD of the map in the top left it took up too much space and looked "silly" in almost a PacMan kind of way. The top left HUD of characters and health was much better done, less intrusive.

For sound, I love Japanese culture and really enjoyed the traditional music that played in the background in many scenes. For me it really helped immerse the game in an authentic setting. Many of the characters speaking are obviously Japanese and hearing that accent and proper pronunciation of historic names was great. Some have British accents ... odd.

There were a lot of little details that I really enjoyed. Obviously these guys had done their research. The little click as a sword was reset into its scabbard, the traditional sword holders on the ground, the way the swordsmen would set up a stance and move, it was all really enjoyable to watch. In many ways it was like being in a well done movie. That all being said, they took a few liberties about what the buildings looked like, and the characters dressed like, back in 1187. It was more like a time traveller from the feudal Japan period (i.e. the 1500s) went back to 1187 in some cases :) But that's sort of like the movie Excalibur, where King Arthur and his knights were wearing armor from the 1600s England. Historic King Arthur certainly wasn't alive in the 1600s :) But we accept that anachronism as part of the myth. It's not like the Japanese soldiers in 1187 had magic powers, either.

In general I really love this game. If I'm going to pick out a particular flaw, it's the camera. You can't control the camera at all, and there are situations where it becomes incredibly annoying. Still, that's something you can just resign yourself to while you enjoy the game!

Genji is set in ancient Japan that is supposed to be actually historical, However when you run into giant crabs and Ladies floating around with butterfly wings, you start to question that concept.

The graphics are awesome, obviously next generation quality and great sound to make you feel like you're in mythical Japan.

The problems with the game are obvious. You'll start playing the game and then when a battle is over, you'll have no idea where to go or what to do so you'll start wondering all over the map until a cut scene starts.

The camera doesn't help either. All too often your character will be fighting something off-screen or your character will disappear through a wall and you'll have no idea what or if you're hitting anything and you'll get frustrated when you die because you couldn't see what was happening.

The game play is hack and slash. All that happens is "kill this giant crab, wonder around, go through the door, activate cut scene, repeat." There's no variety in the game play that keeps the player interested.

If the game had fixed the weak points (which could have been very easy for some such as the camera) this could have been at least an average game. But these flaws are not acceptable for games anymore (if they ever were) and more should be expected for a next generation game.

PROS

Great graphics

Set in mythical ancient Japan

CONS

No idea where to go

Repetetive and straight forward gameplay

"Where am I?" camera

Genji Days of the Blade was a launch title for the PS3, I was reluctant to get it when it was $69 due to my previous negative encounter with Genji: Dawn of Samurai. Its safe to say at this point I'm glad I waited and picked this up for $5 at a pawnshop.

Genji Days of the Blade (Genji 2) takes place pretty much after the events of Genji 1, people who didn't play the first Genji need not worry, the events of the game are shown to you before you start playing Genji 2. Yoshitsune and Benkei both make a second appearance in this game, you also get to play as Shizuka who was previously unplayable in the first game. Also joining the cast is the god of war Buson who has decided to use the body of Genji 1's boss. Overall the characters all have some sort of negative trait to them except for Yoshitsune who can practically attack non-stop, Benkei is absolutely useless, hes much too slow to do anything except for when you have to use his special attack, he is really painfully slow, sure he has massive attack power, but what good is it when you can only get in 1-2 hits before taking a few hundred point of damage? Shizuka is a little faster at attacking the Yoshitsune, but can only string together 4 combos at a time and then slightly pauses, causing her to take lots of damage, and of course being a female character her defense is pitifully low, this wouldn't be bad if you didn't have to worry about her dying, but if even 1 character dies, its game over and you have to start from the beginning! Then there's Buson, sure he looks badass, but his move set stinks, you have to always strife to get his true move set, so he will sting together 4 attacks then you have to time his strife to do another 4 attacks, useless for some bosses as they move to fast for you to get any decent hits in. Basically what I'm getting at is even though you seem to have 4 characters, there is only 1 useful one, Yoshitsune. The other characters are just along for the ride.

Now there's the story, my god, its painfully dull, bland and useless. Space Invaders has a more moving story than this game. The voice acting tries to stay true to the Japanese theme and uses people with Japanese accents, Bleh hated it, the characters feel dull and lifeless, not enough character development going on. I couldn't care less if Yoshitsune's love interest died saving his life or if it was the other way around. To sum it up, boring story, never have I cared less about a story this much....

For the battle system, to some it up, You ever play Dynasty Warriors? Cause Genji 2 is a DW clone, you fight hordes of enemies and then have a boss battle, watch a few cut scenes in between the regular battles and the boss battles, rinse repeat. There is also a limited set of items adding a false difficulty to the game, then you have save points that can be within 10 minutes of each other or 1 hour within each other, that's just plain stupid, and really grinds my gears when I only want to play a 30min session, but have to go another 30-40min longer than planned because I have to find a save point. very frustrating! And now for the biggest complaint, Genji 2 employs the use of a fixed camera...a FIXED CAMERA this can make things much more harder than they need to be in this game (it seems Sony slapped on another layer of false difficulty) you might be running around like a headless chicken, only to discover your destination was just a few more feet forward, but you cant see the door because the fixed camera won't change the angle to let you see this door, also get used to being hit off screen almost all the time. Needless to say,the fixed camera should have had many more angles of the same area as it makes the bad camera angles in Devil May Cry look good. Then there's is that useless smudge on the screen known as the mini-map, it doesn't tell you where to go and doesn't display the location of an enemy very well, The game probably didn't even need the mini-map,its that useless.

The only redeeming factor of this game is the graphics....erm I mean character models, in all fairness they look really good (probably the best looking characters in the PS3's first year out),but what good is that if everything else in the game is bad? Overall I cannot recommend this game. Get Ninja Gaiden Sigma instead if you want to play as an asswhuping Ninja!

Pros:

+Great looking Characters (possibly some of the best looking for the PS3's first year)

+Good looking...box art? (probably conned a few people into thinking the game was good!)

Cons:

-Crappy Story

-Forgettable Characters

-Fixed Camera

-False difficulty with the fixed camera and set amount of items

-Tries to be a dynasty warriors clone

-And Fails

-Not worth the install on you PS3's HDD (I think its around 2GB)

-Yoshitsune is the only good character whats the point of the other 3 if they all border useless (esp. Benkei)

-Should have been boxed with the launch PS3's,for the outrageous $69.99 they were asking you should have got much more game, and a lot less crap.

One of the early PS3 games, this one really doesn't take full advantage of the PS3 capabilities. I played and solved the original Genji on PS2 which was fun to play. This game however seems to take a backward step in gameplay. The camera is horrible. The right control stick which for most games allow you to change the camera angle is used for a dodge move, so many times I had to walk the character around to see things including enemies which were noted on the mini map but out of my sight on the main screen. The game also suffers from repetition. Too many similar missions against the same enemy. The graphics are spruced up and decent for an early PS3 game and the music is nice. I can only recommend this game if you get it for 10 bucks or less.

Genji was this fist Game I bought, played, and traded in at my gaming store. What an honor for this "feudal japan" game. It's Pros are few and superficial and it's cons are many and tremendous. the first and biggest problem I had with it was the fixed non rotational camera, A beheading offense. It also left so much more to be desired, in level design, character design and all around cliche-isms.

You have you're plucky, young, crazy haired hero. Gruff, older, quiet side-kick, the "hot", yet untouchable love interest, and we can't forget the bad to his eyeliner foil. As another reveiwer said it best

"The game play is hack and slash. All that happens is "kill this giant crab, wonder around, go through the door, activate cut scene, repeat." There's no variety in the game play that keeps the player interested." -Kora

And I couldn't agree more. Long and short (with only a little ranting)this game was a MASSIVE waste of time, that I could have watch grass grow with, and be more entertained. This is NOT interesting or hard in any way unless you want to really be Zatoichi and fight blind. I would love to see it regain some honor and preform Seppuku.

This headset for under 20 bucks is great.

Here's a couple of points to some of the bad things I've seen here..

1. It's not small. My head is 7 1/2 hatsize and that's pretty fair size. It adjusts bigger than I need.

2. The mic does only reach your mid cheek, but that's the way you want it. The days of needing the mic to reach around in front of your mouth are over. How do you people think blue tooth phones pick up your voice from up by your ear? LoL at folks.. technology people.. keep up.

3. It is plenty sturdy. It's not made of metal though. I've had mine for 5 months or so now and it's in the same shape as I bought it and that's with me and my 2 kids using it.

4. I play Burnout Paradise every night and my setup on the Ps3 is constantly among the best sounding. Period.

5. The mic again.. it doesn't touch your cheek unless you adjust it too. It's got a flex rod and can easily be bent anyway you want it. Away from your cheek or on it. lol again at this complaint.

Overall, I'd say this headset right now is the best option for the PS3. I've tried some wireless headsets and just wasn't happy with the quality, so I bought this on to use till I found a better solution.. now though, I quit looking. I'm happy with this headset and don't see the need to look further.

Will it stand up to a temper tantrum trowing child, smashing it on the ground after getting pwn'd in MGS? Probably not. My kid broke my 250 dollar Sennheiser's when he couldn't beat "Raining Blood" on Guitar Hero/extreme. Now he's the lawnmower hero.

I'm sick and tired of people giving bad reviews on this headset.I own a PS3 and I've played COD4 for about 12 days. Many people have horrible mics that echo and make what I call "the devil screech." Bluetooth mics create that noice when they pick up background noice. I previously owned a blutooth not knowing about this one. The first problem was it echoed horribly, where as the this product has no echo what so ever. Also charging a blutooth can be a pain and turning it on and off for some can be trouble. When using this product it requires no charging and it is always paired and it is always on. The noise cancelation on this product is great. I usually always have a loud tv on in my house and my friends can't hear it any more since I've switched to the Logitech USB. Also the cord is very long so you don't have to play close to your tv if you don't want to. In short this headset is the most reliable product on the market today for its inexpensive price.

If you're looking for a utilitarian headset you can use on your PC as well as your PS2/PS3, this unit is a rockstar performer.

When I started playing World of Warcraft, I didn't want to spend yet ANOTHER $50 on a headset I could use with Ventrillo. On a lark, I plugged this baby into my PC and Voila! It was recognized immediately and works flawlessy.

I wouldn't want to use it to record a pop song, but for Skyping and like it's the perfect tool.

I'm very happy with this headset. Being a wired USB mic, it never runs out of power.

As for comfort and head-size...I'm an adult with a pretty big head...hat size 7 5/8 (or XXL)...and it's comfortable enough.

One problem, all of these devices can make your ear sore after a while from pressing against it. You can switch ears, but I have an even better solution...I make all the sound on my PS3 come out of my main speakers...including chat.

I hear better that way, and don't lose any stereo effect by having an ear blocked.

Which then means I don't need the ear part of this headset, so, for comfort, instead of actually wearing the headset, I loop it around my neck, and just angle the mic up to my mouth. Now I can play forever, in total comfort, and never run out of power.

I've read several reviews regarding this headset being a piece of crap. I've also read great reviews on the headset as well. I was a little nervous about ordering.

Well, let me tell you.....This headset is absoultely FANTASTIC! I've used the Sony wireless headset, Logitech Cordless Vantage and numerous earbud pices. This absolutely has the best sound ever!

The reviews regarding the mic only going to your cheek or the headset being small haven't applied. I guess if your head was the size of a watermelon, you might have an issue. The sound is crystal clear! My only slight complaint is the amount of pressure it puts on your head. After looking at the headset, it's just a matter of breaking in the headset to fit your head.

Though I've only had the headset a couple of days, construction looks rugged.

If you're looking for a PS3 headset and don't mind 10ft of cable (which was plenty to reach to my couch), I highly reccomend this headset.

2K and Live b-ball hasn't been a contest in the last few years, as 2K has always been the one to buy. I was really hyped up for this year's version, especially after the amazing trailers.

Unfortunately, 2K Sports released an unfinished game full of glitches to meet the deadline. I will only list some of the glitches I've had happen: player moving backwards 8-10 feet, like a teleportation; getting a traveling violation after a scored basket; the inbounder running backwards in place until you get a 5 second violation; made dunks not counting count and everyone keeps playing; the game clock freezing at the end of a quarter; graphics displays, like the current conference standings, taking up the screen so you can't see (while the ball is in play); delays in the crowd noise reactions to plays. A lot of the glitches will be fixed with downloadable patches, but I'm reviewing the game as it is now.

For the positives, the graphics are much improved over 2K9. Online, there is less lag than there was before. The pre-game rituals, such as Lebron's chalk clap and Sasha pumping up Kobe are nice, but I looked at those the first few games and always skip it now. What really matters is gameplay and I wish more time was spent on that. Some of the things that need attention: defenders standing like drones around the rim, while a PG blows by for an uncontested layup, even with help defense bar maxed out; players having their stamina drained 2 trips up the court and then having to sit for an entire quarter; the ridiculous low post game and automatic skyhooks; guys missing uncontested lay-ups too often; players going into automatic post up, for no reason.

The "My Player" feature is pretty fun building up your character. If you played team-up online, you are familiar with the grading system. There are major gripes here, as well. My teammates also play very stupid defense, constantly leaving everyone, including superstars, wide open. When you are playing as a team in the regular game, you can switch and "babysit" your defenders, but you will be frustrated with the stupid play in this mode. There are also frustrating glitches in this mode like the graphic blocking the screen so you can't see for about 15 seconds and the way too frequent backcourt and out of bounds violations, when there is no defensive pressure. I watch a lot of games and I see a backcourt violation maybe once every 10 games but it happens usually 3 or more times here, again, with no defensive pressure.

If you need your annual NBA fix, with updated rosters, this is still ahead of Live (and I have played Live 10 for a few hours). If you're only a casual player, and just want a fun game regardless of whether rosters are current, stick with 2K9, at least until they fix the major bugs.

UPDATE 11/9: I'm finished with this game until a patch comes out. Supposedly, one is coming out this week, but judging from the 360 patch feedback, it's severely lacking and causes more issues. It's been over a month since release and it's unacceptable.

Here is what pushed me over the edge: In My Player mode, I was in the first round of the playoffs as the #2 seed, with Golden State. The Mavs shot 70-80% EVERY game, the vast majority of which were perimeter shots with a defender in their face. I managed to take it to game 6 somehow, but in the last game, my teammates would take it up the court, dribble out the clock, and shoot a 3 with 1 second on the shot clock. I would set a screen, move around frantically, call for the ball, ANYTHING, but they just stood there dribbling (we were down on the scoreboard and this was infuriating). Still somehow, I made it close by working for high percentage shots. With 10 seconds it was tied, Dirk hit a contested 20 footer with 5 seconds left. I drove to the basket and was fouled making 2 free throws to tie it with 2 seconds. On the next inbound, Jason Terry tosses up another 20 footer with a defender in his face and of course makes it. I wasn't surprised because Dirk and Terry hit literally 90% for the series. That was it. 2K, fix your broken game. I've always bought 2K games on release day but I learned a lesson here. I will never do that again and after this experience, I may never even buy a 2K game again.

I played the heck out of NBA 2k9, so I was excited about NBA 2k10, especially because of the My Player mode.

However, the one thing that ruins sports games for me is the bread and butter play...you know, the play you can use to score every time? Well, NBA 2k10 suffers from the same thing (ironically) that's plagued the Live series for years, dominating point guards. Even on Hall of Fame difficultly, I can take Jason Kidd and score 60 against the Lakers. I've adjusted sliders, but to no avail in fixing the issue. What I usually do is start on the wing drive toward the top of the key, do a quick hesitation and then blow by the defender and down the lane for an easy lay-up...it works every time.

And when I get tired of that, it's really easy to exploit the AI defense. Just keep passing around the 3 pt line until a guy goes down low for an easy lay-up. It's that simple. I'm serious on this too, and I'll say it again, sliders don't fix anything. The AI defense is really poor. It's unplayable for me. It's not fun to dominate this easily.

There are some framerate issues, particularly in post play, but I haven't noticed it enough to piss me off or anything. Supposedly they're worse on the 360 version.

Outside of the poor defensive AI, the other big complaint I have is that the action is kinda choppy, not fluid at all. Passes are great, but ball-handling and driving the lane animations are unnatural. I played the demo for Live 10 and it's much more fluid, so I may try it, though I suspect it's not outstanding either.

The graphics remain good, but not great. The players don't really look much like themselves, especially Dirk. They're really shiny, and move awkwardly in the cutscenes. It's annoying.

Players miss the easiest lay-ups around the basket. Blocks from behind are uncanny. If the AI breaks free and heads down court for the easy lay-up, you can turbo your PG and catch him almost then attempt a block as the opponent is performing the lay-up and block it almost every time. It's unfair. I wish you could turn them off.

I'm really, really disappointed. I'm struggling to point out what's really good about this game. I can't think of any part I've really enjoyed. Hopefully a patch will address a number of these issues. It's just too easy.

I was an NBA Live fan up until 2k9. I've heard other 2k's before that were better than Live but I was too loyal, hoping maybe one day NBA Live would get it together. 2k9 was soo much better than live I felt deprived. Now 2k10 in some ways isn't better than 2k9 but the "My Player" mode is what NBA games have been lacking for a long time. Yes you could lock to a certain player but it really didn't do much since it wasn't really tracked as far as how well you were playing the position. My player brings that challenge to work day in and out. After playing a regular franchise you get bored but to make accomplishments as an individual has really got me playing this game allot more trying to get better. It's not perfect but I'm loving it so far.

Initially, I was taken back by the complete change in feel and gameplay in 2k10 compared to previous ones. I actually thought of posting a 3. Then, I went back and spent more time in the game. It has indeed changed, but for the better. It is much more REALISTIC. No more reach and steal your game to the easy finish as was the case in HOF mode in previous 2K games. The "Pro" mode (3 levels lower than HOF) is harder than HOF in previous ones.

Gameplay is much more difficult and realistic. It is lot harder to defend in this game. The controls do feel completely different but I got used to it. Graphics are incredible but I like the more realistic feel to the game. It definitely is not as easy as just put the ball in an allstar hand and just blow by everyone. Its much more offensive set oriented.

I think many people that posted negatively will change their opinion once they played more than one or two game. It takes some time to get used to this version. I have had played the 2K Bball series from the first to the tenth. This one is the most feature rich, robust, and realistic.

This game is not for players that like arcade-like feel games. It does make you think the game more like Madden does. Realistic gameplay for the real bball fans not the casual ones.

Excellent game vs cpu/opp. HORRIBLE ONLINE!!! Lag kills ur timing. I also keep hearing rumors that cheat codes can be transfered online to make players shoot 90% from the field. AI's defense is awful....just awful. NBA Today feature is awsome however. During ur normal gameplay i normally take gameplay and player quickness down to 37. it makes the pace more realistic. if not, players will run 75mph with turbo. ull feel like ur playing nba jam and might violently throw ur controller. overall good game. still a long way to go.

I've spent years searching and experimenting with different games to play with my "non-gamer" wife: Dr Muto, Jax and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, etc., and the Simpsons is the best by far.

While each of the above titles has something to offer, they all ended up with my wife getting frustrated by having to "grind out" a particular level over and over and over again from the beginning until we get it right. Aside from the time trials, the Simpsons is very forgiving in terms of character death, and lets you continue in the level from where where you died most often without any game interruption or restarting at all.

The "episodes" are challenging enough to hold your interest through the use of humor and standard puzzles, and short enough that you can play for an hour and actually feel like you've accomplished something. This has always been a key area in holding my wife's interest in a game, because if she walks away feeling like she wasted her time... forget it that game's a goner.

So, if you've been looking for a PS3 game that you get your non-gamer spouse to play with you I think you ought to give the Simpsons a go.

It's kind of odd, a few months before The Simpsons Game was released, I was reading previews all over the place about how everyone thought this was not only the best Simpsons game ever made, but also a contendor for game of the year. I guess that the demo versions they played, they must have assumed that the few problems it has would be fixed, because while the game is indeed great, it does have some glaring problems.

First and foremost is the camera angle. It wants to get in your way quite often, and it can really tick you off when you're doing some of the mor eprecise platforming parts of the game. Honestly, EA is a pretty respectable company with a lot of talent under their leadership, they could have come up with a better camera for the game... one that doesn't remind me of the crappy camera angles mosr 3D games had in the mid 90's. Some people have said this game has sloppy controls. Not really, it actually controls really well, it's just the buggy camera that makes it hard to make precise jumps or get yourself oriented in the 3D world. Another complaint I have is the animation during the cut scenes varies from horrible to amazing. Playing this on my HDTV makes the game look wonderful, especially during cut-scenes. BUT... from time to time the animation is horribly drawn. I don't know if they were trying to recapture how the characters looked during the Tracy Ullman days, if so, that is cool as hell, but they don't really look like the Tracy Ullman characters, so I'm left wondering if from time to time cheap animation was used to save moeny or something. Either way, no big deal as it doesn't occur often.

Does all of the above make this a bad game? Well, my rating for it should clue you in to an answer of "no". Camera issues aside, The Simpsons Game is pure, simple, mindless FUN! The game makes fun of itself, of other games and is full of innuendos that fans of the show will eat up. Oh, and the game is hilarious, much more so than a majority of the new episodes of the show even! If you're a fan of old video and arcade games, you'll love how some of the gameplay mimics games like Everquest, Frogger, Grand Theft Auto and more. There's just so much fun to be had here, that aside from the camera issues I'd consider the game nearly perfect and a must buyu for anyone a fan of the show. The humor and fun-factor is so great, I find myself playing just a bit more to listen to various character's comments, or to see just one more funny cut-scene.

I've heard rumors that you can unlock the old Simpsons arcade game during the course of playing this game. I'm really hoping so, that would be the icing an an already half-eaten-by-Homer cake.

I've been a huges Simpsons fans since a kid and have played most of the Simpsons games from NES Simpsons games to Hit & Run. This one may be the best from the sheer fact that the graphics are the best to date and the voices are the actual cast of the Simpsons. Graphics for the PS3 version are very good, but they could have pushed it a little further.

Animation scenes are also brilliant. Plays & looks well on my 61" 1080P TV. Also you can play 2 players for all the missions which is sort of fun. This game is a little too hard for little kids but ages seven and up should enjoy it.

I'm a busy 40 year old who was looking for a game that I could jump into for 20 minutes before bedtime for some relaxation. The Simpson's game fits the bill for the PS3.

The good:

-balanced gameplay-not too easy or hard

-good puzzles

-well written story with lots of 'inside' gags

-cell shaded graphics looks just right for the Simpson's world

The bad:

-Several of the cut scenes had some PG language that disqualifies it from being a kids game (can't turn them off).

-people under 30 probably won't get some of the gameplay gags. Not to ruin the surprises but there are some 80's arcade homage's to be found.

All in all i expected more from the Simpsons. Granted, they haven't had a real good video game since the old arcade ones, but i still though this would be the one to turn it around.

I read good reviews of it, but when i bought it and played about half way through i got tired of it, and haven't had the desire to put it back in.

The graphics seem like they're not using the PS3 to it's full potential, the controls are surprisingly sloppy, and the cell-shading can make the terrain trickier than it should be.

The stories and characters are funny, i'll say that much. It's a very well written game. But hours of sub-par gameplay can bring it down.

The shoddy controls and the semi-decent graphics make the simplest of things (Say jumping off the edge of something to get a secret item) impossibly hard. Seriously, there are a lot of packages you need to find for each character, the hard part should be finding them, not jumping a hundred times to make sure you land on it properly.

I got this thinking it would be something nice to have for my PS3 slim..well I was wrong, it does not lock on like it says it does, the moment you pick up your PS3 it falls right off, so unless you like your PS3 just sitting in the same spot forever without having to put this on over and over again, then this is for you, if you don't like it in the same spot for a long period of time, then this is not for you.

Looking at it right now, its working fine for the last year or so... It doesn't really add much to the surface area of the bottom of the PS3 but it does make it significantly harder to tip the thing over...

Other than the fact that the interlock switch does not actually lock the PS3, it is a good stand for the price. Very solid build and the material it has for preventing the PS3 from slipping is very good.

The Hori Fighting Stick 3 is a solid entry in Hori's line of joystick products. As the only arcade stick widely available for the Playstation 3 in the USA, it has some big shoes to fill. Fortunately, it comes through in most areas. It's the best in its class and with the new backwards-compatibility updates to the PS3, you can even use this with your favorite PS1 and PS2 games.

The HFS3 offers a Japanese style ball-top joystick with 8 Japanese style convex face buttons. The stick and buttons are all very responsive and perform extremely well in the most intense situations. The joystick has a very sturdy outer case and weighs a respectable 3lbs. It also comes with rubber feet allowing you to comfortably play on a hard surface or your lap. A minor gripe I have about this joystick is the button layout which forces your hand to be in a slightly awkward and uncomfortable position but is definitely not a deal-breaker.

I found this joystick to be terrific in 3D fighting games and have no gripes about it at all. However, when it comes to 2D fighting games, this joystick falls a little short. Most fighting game aficionados will know the importance of circular motions in order to keep your competitive edge. Sadly, this joystick comes with the Japanese standard square restrictor-plate. I find it very difficult to pull off complex combos requiring lots of circular rotations.

If you feel confident enough to do a little modification, you can easily fit a Sanwa JLF and an octagon restrictor-plate into this stick. This is a great option since it comes with such a low-price tag giving you some wiggle room for upgrades.

Overall, I think this is a solid purchase for anyone that wants to expand their fighting game experience. I thoroughly enjoy playing fighting games on the Playstation 3 more because of this stick and have a lot of fun playing some older PS1/PS2 games with it as well.

For this price, this kind of a joystick is truly a treat. I've always been one to obsess about how much gameplay at home resembles that of the arcade the endless abyss of accessories scattered across closets in my house proves it. Metal DDR pads, multiple steering wheels, etc. Being a fighting game addict I can tell you that this is much better than the SIXAXIS for Virtua Fighter 5, as I'm sure it will be for Tekken and Soul Calibur, and whatever other games from the fighting genre may pop up on the PS3 eventually.

You will find that the buttons are much more accessible than if you were to try using your SIXAXIS by putting it into a weird position so you can counter your opponents' moves with lightning quick reflexes. As much as I love this thing, there are some cons which I should let you know about.

CONS:

The turbo option is crucial for some combos, but it can ruin some as well. If you turn the turbo on for the D-Pad Down, you will sidestep instead of crouching.

There is only ONE fighting game for the Playstation 3 right now. This is DEFINITELY not the time to buy one of these if you don't plan on playing Virtua Fighter 5, or downloading Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection when it becomes available on the PS Store.

Though many people have been saying this works on their PC (and I'm sure it does... lucky them) there are also people who can't seem to get their PC to get it to work, me being one of them.

For those of you who wanted to buy this to play other games, the D-Pad does not work for games that use analog to move around. I was excited to try using this for NBA2K7 but was not able to. Therefore, this is a joystick made exclusively for fighting games... or other games that use the D-Pad instead of the analog stick on the SIXAXIS a rarity I'm sure, for PS3 games. I own 8 games, but currently Virtua Fighter 5 is the only one I'm able to use this for out of those 8.

In conclusion, this is definitely a great product especially for the price it's been put up for. However, I would save my $50 dollars and spend it to get 1 more PS3 game into my collection if I wasn't such a fighting genre addict and did not obsess about bringing the arcade experience into my house. Dish out the 50 dollars if you plan on purchasing Virtua Fighter 5 or Tekken 5: DR and you're a fighting genre fanatic. If you REALLY love your fighting games, I've been told the HORI Pro Fighting Stick 3 is better, and that's priced at 80 dollars. Otherwise, if those descriptions don't seem to be describing you, I'd wait a bit more for a better joystick to come along.

I've been playing my PS3 Fighting Stick 3 with BlazBlue online and against my friends, and buttons and controls are responsive. This is my first arcade stick since the original NES so I didn't know what to expect.

Pros: A good arcade stick, with square gate, and button alignment exactly like the japanese arcades. Switches for Turbo, up to 20x, and also works with PS2 games if you have a BC PS3. A lot of bang for your buck without breaking the bank.

Cons: Not using Sanwa/Seimitsu stick, or using Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons.

I've been playing this on BlazBlue for 20 hours a week for a few weeks, and it still works. I don't know anything about modding, so I can't help you there. I've been playing pad since the days of SF2, so adapting to stick took a few days, but pulling off your characters specials and supers are way easier, combos are easier to pull off, plus it won't sore my left thumb on the analog stick for the pad.

I bought this joystick because I wasn't happy with my competition stick. I thought by buying this stick, i wouldn't have any problems performing my moves in street fighter. Well, i was definitely wrong because doing forward-down to forward motion, aka drag punch rotation, is very difficult. Actually it is almost impossible. Especially when trying to combo into a cr mk to super fireball.

Street Fighter Alpha 2:

I like using rolento in this game. I thought this stick would improve my consistency in doing the throw dagger command. However i was extremely disappointed that you literally have to mash the joystick in order to get that rotation to come out.

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo:

I still had the same problem when using shodo characters. However when using sagat, i find his tigree knee to be exremely easy. So if you are a noob and just want to spam tiger knee, then this stick is perfect for you!

Street Fighter 4:

Amazingly this stick works pretty well for this game. I think it is because you only have to hit down-left or down-right twice to perform a dragon punch type move. Performing supers is also pretty easy but comboing into supers is another story. Doing a cr mk to super fireball is quite difficult. If you like to play online, this can be quite annoying. Especially when you get punished for it!

So overall, I give this stick a 4 out 5. After doing some research on youtube, i found out that it is extremely easy to mod!! All you have to do is buy a restrictor plate and you're set to go! I STRONGLY suggest that before you buy this stick, look up videos on square plates vs the 8 octagonal restrictor plate!!

Besides that, it's an ok stick for under 50 bucks. If you mod it, then you will definitely get your moneys worth! I Hope this review helps with your search in buying a new joystick!

This was product was really worth it compared to other generic sticks i have had in the past. Though there is a Square Gate, it shouldn't be problem after u play with it for a while, but if it really bothers you then changing out the gate is pretty simple. This stick has upped my game way more than i ever thought. this stick>dpad in my opinion.

Also for those who ask if this work for PC's, it does as many of my acquaintances have bought this as well, and this stick mostly plug and play on Vista 32 bits and on one Window 7 32 bit operating system.

Well, in my opinion this stick is truly a great stick for bargain hunters. And better buy quick the stick went up in price pretty quick(about 12 dollars more) in 5 days.

I'm very familiar with the Splinter Cell universe as found on the PC, having played all more than once (never played a console version).

Of these three, Chaos Theory is considered the best and I would mostly agree. The original, however, is what made the series what it is. Pandora is still quite good and worth finishing.

These ports ended up being FAR better than I expected based on reading the dismal reviews of performance before it was officially released. I kept on waiting for serious lag issues, long load times, poor graphics and optimization (and other 'issues') anything that detracted from the SC experience. Didn't find anything truly worthy of complaint and I was waiting to complain and put the disc away for a hopeful future patch.

I was preparing myself for utter disappointment again based solely on the multiple poor reviews before this PS3 trilogy was released and found myself very satisfied with the controls, graphics, and overall performance.

Are there issues that can be annoying? Sure. They are, truly, minor. The authentic gameplay of the Splinter Cell series can still be had with these three. I didn't think I'd be able to say that before I played them.

I do not care whatsoever for multiplayer. If the single-player experience is not what you're looking for, then this PS3 version of SC is not for you.

I've played more than a few so-called 'lazy ports'. This is not one of them. In the end, these three titles are absolutely worthy of playing on the PS3 (especially if you do not have the PC version).

This is my first review, I apologize if there are spelling and grammatical errors in the review. I wrote this review because of all the low stars that is has received undeservingly.

The trilogy comes with the first 3 games in the series. Since there are 3 games, I will divide this review into three sections. All 3 control very well and the controls are very fluid. The analog controls can not be inverted. According to Ubisoft the games are ported from the PC versions. The first 2 games the PC versions were the only ones where you could save at any point in the games and not have to get to a check point.

Splinter Cell:

Some of the cut scenes lag for about a second here and there, but you barely notice it. the lip sinking is a little of. Some of the textures are miss colored, part of Sam's hair is brown and black and you could see a square on his head, you only notice it if you look for it. When you get close to certain objects and wall you will notice some pixelation, but it is an older game. The game itself has more lighting than the original, occasionally you stand in an area that was bitch black in the original, but here is maybe visible, your meter will show that it is dark, you will go further in the level, turn around and come back and it will be dark like the original, again doesn't detract from the game. Even though there are some graphical deficiencies, there are also improvements, when I played it on PC I thought Sam's clothing was solid black, but here I can see a dark camo pattern. Visually the game is very crisp fps is at 60 or very close to it as far as I can see. There are several PC versions of this game, ones that have 2 extra levels that were exclusive to the PS2 version and the original release that didn't have them, this trilogy does not have those 2 extra levels as far as I can see.

Pandora Tomorrow:

Pretty much like the first, controls are good, has more lighting. The cut scenes do not have lag, or I did not notice it. Textures are better handled than the first game. Crisp graphics and fps is at or close to 60 as far as I could tell. Lip sinking is better in this one. Textures are better handled as well.

Chaos Theory:

Just like the first 2 games, controls are good and graphics are good. I never played this game on the PC, I played it on the PS2, so it is better than the PS2 version, but cannot compare it to the PC version since this version was ported from there. Overall game plays well.

I mostly reviewed the first game and didn't think it was necessary to repeat most of the information for the other 2 games. All games have there own trophy set, so there are 3 platinum trophies to get. Each game has its own save file, the saves are not locked, so you can copy them onto your flash drive. So far the game is relatively bug free. I prefer there version over the originals, they also brig back fond memories of when I played them originally. Hope you find this review useful, FYI I do not regret paying full price for this collection, I believe it was worth it.

Product: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD PS3

To begin, I never played these games when they were originally released, this High Definition re-release is my first encounter with these games, and therefore, I will not be comparing them to their original releases. Also, I want to be clear that I really enjoyed these games, they were a lot of fun to play and I found them extremely rewarding. That being said, this review will not focus on my personal opinion of the games as far as game play goes, I will be focusing on the presentation of the product as an entry into the High Definition format.

Splinter CellIn-game rendering was decently crisp and smooth, surfaces were nice and clear, the lighting effects presented a bold contrast in the environments, and overall, from a visual standpoint, I thought the game looked good.

The cut-scenes are a different story; these did not look like they were treated with tender loving care. Cut-scenes really make this game show its age. The news broadcasts that feature throughout the game have an almost cartoonish quality; the broadcaster's faces almost bringing to mind "the uncanny valley", stuff of nightmares. The cut-scenes that feature the primary cast in conjunction with the main story look especially bad, they seem stretched and over dark, and overall un-updated. The characters movements within the cut-scenes seem stilted and robotic, and surfaces and objects come to sharp triangular points. Lip synching is basically mouths opening and closing without rhythm while the dialogue plays.

While the game looks good (while playing), it suffers from occasional hiccups and freezing. From what I could observe it seems that whenever the player character passes over an in game scripted event point the game stutters dramatically: with NPC's dialogue becoming jilted and echoed and the frame rate taking a nose dive. Also, occasionally throughout the game I experienced a seemingly random freeze that would stop all visuals, allow no player control, yet, maintain the sound of the game. This happened to me two or three times and lasted for about seven to ten seconds. It was annoying but didn't directly affect game play.

Ultimately, though the games visuals are nothing to write home about and the cut-scenes are cringe worthy, none of theses things drastically impeded upon my playing of the game.

Pandora TomorrowThe opening cinematic sequence looked good, a lot better than any of the cut-scenes from Splinter Cell. It definitely gave me high hopes for the game, and overall (visually anyhow) the game looks pretty good, comparable or better than Splinter Cell. I thought that there were some environments that really looked spectacular with the lighting effects, to the point where I'd stop and just pan the camera around to take it all in.

HOWEVER! Unlike Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow had a host of in game freezes, stutters and frame rate slowing that was so bad it completely compromised the game for me. Right from the first level I was plagued with a half second visual and audio hiccup every couple of seconds that served to completely derail my enjoyment and emersion in the game. The only time throughout the entire game that this constant problem was not quite so constant was in levels that were predominantly indoors, and had only basic lighting effects. Which is a real shame, because the outdoor levels juxtaposed with the lighting used in them would really have been nice to enjoy without having the game stutter-stop every five seconds. The games issues hindered my playing at various points throughout; one issue was that when I'd equip a gun, aim and fire it there would be about a quarter to half a second before the action was translated on screen. In a similar vain controls overall were sluggish: if I had to equip a weapon, fire it and than un-equip it all very rapidly in order to avoid immediate detection or death, fifty percent of the time I was being forced to double press buttons and more than likely failing in whatever endeavor I was attempting. The freezing in Pandora Tomorrow was quite a bit worse than it was in Splinter Cell, while it was more frequent there was also a situation where I had to execute a complete system restart, re-load the game and find out that my last save had been compromised. I also encountered a strange issue where guards were stuck in a strange loop and would just jostle back and forth like a machine unable to complete a circuitous movement, and when they'd move they'd glide across the ground without moving their legs, it was very creepy, reminded me of a movie ghost or something. Dialogue in the game was at times almost indecipherable, dialogue would occasionally coincide with a stutter-stop and frame rate drop and the whole conversation would sound as though it was recorded in an echo chamber, every word of dialogue being repeated two or three times.

Although the opening cut-scene gave me high hopes for the in game cut-scenes, Pandora Tomorrow showcases cut-scenes which are not noticeably any better than those presented on Splinter cell.

Although I did play all the way through Pandora Tomorrow, there were a multitude of instances where I genuinely asked myself if playing through this game was worth the frustration all of its issues caused me. The one minor caveat to what I've written on the topic of Pandora Tomorrow in HD is that it is a stealth game, and therefore is a game of patience and slow stealth, which frame rate drops and freezing will hinder the playing of only so much. What I mean to say is that were this game a fast paced shooter I don't know that I would have been capable of finishing it; Pandora Tomorrow is (fortunately for itself) a slow paced, methodical game and can almost excuse the hiccups, as far as basic game play is concerned. Though that far from excuses it.

Chaos TheoryThis game looks a lot sharper than either Splinter Cell or Pandora Tomorrow, light glistens off of surfaces, textures have distinct dimension and there's a real beauty to the environments and the various colors permeating through the layered lighting. The cut-scenes look better as well, though I wouldn't particularly high-light them as any artistic gem: they're better than cut-scenes that I'd describe as bad, which doesn't make them good.

Similar to Pandora tomorrow I again experienced lag during various points throughout the game, glaring pauses in video while the sound still plays, disjointed dialogue that cuts in and out and, in some areas, repetitive looping stutters in the game. These looping stutters were especially irritating as they'd significantly distract from the action going on during the game.

Most of the major issues in Chaos Theory (and the other two as well, really) appeared to be connected in some way to the sound. For instance the first level in the game features an ocean beach front, and at various points throughout the mission the sound of the break of the waves would coincide with a dramatic lag and stutter in the game, both of video and audio. Other similar issues would occur while NPC dialogue was occurring, either enemies or the support team radio conversations. And in both instances it became an insistent skipping that not only was irritating but at times really pulled me out of the game and interrupted the story and flow of "need to know" information.

SummarySo to summarize, these games really could have been presented better, the host of consistent glitches serves only to deride the game play and can make a game that some have describe as a tedious dance of trial and error into a frustrating mess. Than again I was able to play all the games through to their conclusions, and though the issues mentioned were annoying I found the games rewarding enough to ignore the problems and trudge forward. Pandora Tomorrow is far and away (from my experience) the worst port of the three, Splinter Cell would come out in the middle and Chaos Theory would be the standout. If you were looking for the ultimate Splinter Cell collection brought to the High Definition format this product may disappoint. But if you could care less about presentation, only want to play the games and can ignore some glaring software issues, than for the price offered, you may give it a whirl.

(Also, there are no extras on these games. You get the three games with added trophy support. For whatever reason the multi-player component from Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory was excluded)

There is no doubt that the original xbox games of the splinter cells were amazing. If you're on a new system and haven't played them, don't. They are an old school type of game. They are entertaining for the puzzle or situational experiences. This game won't blow your mind in graphics or gameplay if you didn't play these game years before. The reasons I love this game follows:

-I loved these games and bought them on original xbox. This game didnt cut off the screen like the original titles and supports three games in one.

-The HD does look much better. It benefits majorly when it's dark...

-No onlineI didn't miss it much. Thought the original online was a C+

It does involve all three games in one disc with the screen consuming the entire screen this time with better graphics and slightly smooother gameplay. That's what it is. Nothing more unless you're concerned about ps3 network trophies, which it has.

Want Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD Discount?

there are a few tiny gripes...like quitting the game to ps3 main screen to choose between the 3 titles being an example but it is offset by things like being able to quick save in the self titled original and pandora tomorrow. chances are if you are looking at this you already liked the splinter cell series or the double agent title that came out on the ps3. in my opinion, these are by far superior games to that. the updated graphics don't look as good as the brand new titles that come out nowadays, but is a nice upgraded presentation to say the least. i played these games on original xbox when they first came out and it feels so good to be able to play them on the ps3, all 3 original titles on 1 disc, and play through the story line(s). if you're feeling nostalgic or just want to see where and how it all began, can't go wrong here.

I was expecting a lot from a DIRT game. To say the least i was disappointed. This game, in my opinion, was a quick money maker. My 5 year old likes it, and is the only one that plays it. It's not really a rally game. So i give it 2 stars for lack of enjoyment, lackluster excitement, and poor physics. 2 stars is a bonus considering i have DIRT 3, 3 stars.
