The stickers look great, but the ps3 sticker doesn't stick to the console. The edges lift and curl up. The controler stickers look and work great, its just the console sticker that's the problem.

TNA and Midway have ramped up the hype machine for "TNA Impact" for months. SpikeTV, in fact, devoted an entire episode of its "Game Trailers" show to the game. As a big TNA fan, I was already excited for my first shot at controlling Samoa Joe and AJ Styles and all on my PS3, and the Spike special put my excitement over the top. The graphics looked unbelievable, and I was encouraged by quotes from some of TNA's younger talent on the game's playability -the title of this review is an AJ Styles quote from the special.

Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out what AJ was talking about. I see that other reviewers like the gameplay here, but I cannot stand it. Kicking out of pins is absurdly difficult, there is no apparent rhyme or reason to how much damage is inflicted by different moves, and the number of moves available is extremely limited.

Because the game developers had AJ, Christopher Daniels, and Joe as the models for designing the gameplay, everybody in the game moves like them. Even giant sacks of worthless sludge like Scott Steiner can flip out of a fireman's carry for a counter, climb the Ultimate X cables with ease, and leap over the top rope to the arena floor. Where is the realism in that? Similarly, why does a punch from Steiner dole out the same amount of punishment as a punch from Alex Shelley and why is Sonjay Dutt as tough as Kurt Angle? Every character in this game is the same. There are no character ratings for traits like endurance, strength, speed, etc. It's all very bland.

Finally, the story mode is full of holes. You spend most of your early career wrestling jobbers created with the game's horrendous "create a wrestler" mode, and they get introductions such as "a man who lays his body on the line for you" and "a man who has left a trail of destruction in his wake." Give me a break. While some of the skits in the story mode are entertaining (Eric Young trying to hit on Christy Hemme is hilarious,) the whole Suicide story is awful. "I don't remember who I am, though I just told you the story of how I used to be TNA Champion before I got beat up by LAX. I guess I'm supposed to be a wrestler."

Oy.

Finally, Ultimate X is the only gimmick match in the entire game. There is a falls-count-anywhere mode, but since every single match in the game is no DQ and no countout, and since you can't go beyond the immediate ringside area, that barely counts as a different mode. You will find no "six sides of steel", no ladder (or King of the Mountain) matches, no hardcore or "Monsters' Ball" matches, nadda. That gets pretty boring afte ra while.

The game gets an A for graphics, a C+ for gameplay, a Bfor fun, and a Dfor features. Unfortunately, Midway only hit a single with this one, leaving TNA fans waiting for that home run.

I got this game, because I thought it would be cool to play. I watch TNA wrestling and I am a huge fan. It only seemed right for me to get the game and try that as well. However the game isn't that great. It has hardly know characters to choose from. The moves are almost impossible to do unless you play all day everyday Not to pleased with the game. In fact it just sits there and I don't play it. However none of this is the sellers fault. The game came quickly and it was nice and cheap. Just not a great game is all.

The graphics on this game are great, probably the best in all the wrestling games, the gameplay is repetetive but pretty fun. You need to go throught the story mode to unlock all the wrestlers & the story mode is extremely hard & can be very frustrating. I had to go to a website that gives you tips & hints on how to beat each opponent. If not for that I wouldn't make it very far in story mode cause opponents reverse near every single move & it's too hard to kick out of a pin, so if they cover you the match is basically over. Once you beat the story mode & unlock all the wrestlers the exhibition is pretty fun. The biggest problem with this game is it's almost impossible to kick out of a pin attempt. This game also didn't have any Championships & lacks gimmick matches. The main match available is the Ultimate X. I'm glad I bought this game used for $10 I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it.

I have played all the Lego Star Wars and Lego Batman and even the Indiana Jones. Out of all of them so far Lego Harry Potter is by far my favorite. The atmosphere of the game reminds me so much of the books and movies that the nostalgia it brings outshines all other Lego games. Like all Lego games they are always better played with someone. The ease of which you can drop in and out of the games is great making it easy for anyone to pickup and walk away from at any time. There is always a ton to do and being able to replay levels as any of the characters is great.

The game is pretty good, it leaves you with a good feeling, like after you eat a slice of cheesecake. There is a lot of room for improvement, however, for an old game as this, can't complain. The limited edition is pretty sweet, love the action figure.

I will admit that run and gun is fun for a while, but realism is what makes a tactical shooter game, especially a WWII-based game, more appealing to me. Each mission requires you to think tactically in order to complete each operation successfully. You can even reload the level and try a different tactical maneuver. I encourage everyone to try the game first on the easy level just to get use to the controls. They are slightly different from your traditional shooter setups. Second, after completing the easy setting, try it again on Normal difficulty, and if you are really adept, try the authentic mode where all assistance is turned off and requires a higher skill level to complete. The enemy AI on the Normal and Authentic difficulty settings will definitely challenge you. One shot can kill you so no heroes are made here. The game has a high replay value in my opinion, since the enemy AI does not behave the same each time.

I'm still playing and enjoying this game long after buying it. Although I wish the controls hadn't been changed from the first two (PS2) games and were more like most of the other games I play, I've gotten used to them. More importantly, the story of this game makes sense, and the opportunity to move 2 fire teams into a position that allows me to flank the enemy adds to the game's challenge, fun and satisfaction. Anyone who enjoys playing WWII games, great music, an engrossing story, and challenging game play should enjoy this game. At this point, my main disappointment is that the Battle of the Bulge sequel has not been released.

I'll start this review with some full disclosure: This review is long and gushing, but please, allow me to indulge my heartfelt desire to give this game the praise it deserves. Rayman Origins is, hands down, one of the biggest surprises in high quality gaming excellence I have seen in my life (much of which I have spent playing games), and definitely the biggest surprise this year. This game is special, and for so many reasons too. I've been a huge fan of Rayman for 15 years now, since his first outing on the original Playstation, to his stellar masterpiece Rayman 2 and beyond. For the past few years, however, Rayman has been on life support, barely eking out an existence through hideously lazy rereleases/ports of past glories, and as an afterthought inclusion with spotlight stealing Rabbids. Now though, the hero of light is back, this time with friends(!), by going way back to the beginning, and what a ride it is!

The story in Rayman Origin is as silly, perhaps even more, as we've ever seen from the series! You see, Rayman and his friends tend to make a lot of noise when they nap and laze around, to the point of creating snooze symphonies. This proves to be really bothersome to the old grannie who is boss of the land of the livid dead, a dark and dreary realm near the glade of dreams. Finally she has enough of her noisy neighbors and launches a full scale "darktoon" invasion of Rayman's homeland, and Rayman & co. are more than happy to oblige her desire to duke it out! Hence starts Rayman Origins' platforming euphoria.

First off, the art design in this game is outstanding. The environments are beautifully, fantastically dreamlike. Some places are majestic to the point of being downright breathtaking. Rayman has always been a series characterized by whimsy, goofiness, and imagination that is gorgeous and this game does not disappoint in the least. The character models and animation are equally charming. Watching it all reminded me so much of classical cartoon animation that feels fluid and spontaneously fun, playful, and adventurous. It also hearkens back to a time when animation followed a very important rule: the drawings must be funny. Yes, eyes pop out from the head, faces completely contort when characters are injured, enemies turn into big bubbles when defeated (and eventually pop like over-inflated whoopy cushions), the charm here is off the charts, and wholly appropriate for any age. This game is both beautiful and so very endearing, and the art design helps that immensely. I'll never get over seeing a tiny mosquito carrying the big, fat Globox who is the pellet shooter instead of the mosquito, or him flapping his arms like a chicken to stay afloat. Hilarious. Rayman and the teensies, as well as all of the supporting, non-playable characters (the nymph fairies especially, lol) are equally silly and joyous to behold.

The sound design cannot go unmentioned either. The music is both whimsical and eclectic, while still adding in that laugh-inducing humor. Little "Alvin and the chipmunk" voices lend their singing talent to the background music, and it is so very funny. You'll find little touches like these all over the game, and it's awesome. When characters speak, they speak in that immediately recognizable pig latinish "Rayman gibberish." As with the art design, humor is everywhere in the audio as well, be in it music or sound effects.

I'd say the most surprising thing about this game is how incredibly solid the platforming is. The original 2-D Rayman had a lot of charm, but the gameplay was definitely the aspect most lacking, but here? This is undoubtedly the best gameplay of any Rayman game. Rayman and his friends learn new abilities as you progress, at a perfect pace I might add, and each of these abilities adds so much dimension to the traditional run-n-jump 2-D platforming genre. The control mechanics are really tight, as good as any 2-D platformer starring a chubby Italian plumber or a famous hairy ape with a necktie, and that is high praise indeed. You'll also be breaking cages to free the poor electoons and nymphs from captivity to progress through the various worlds you visit. The level layouts are outstanding, and playing this game just feels really good. It's also deliciously challenging in parts, but not to the point where it angers or frustrates you beyond the limit. Check points are frequent and there is an unlimited amount of lives to burn through (or "bubbalize," to be more accurate), and that also alleviates a lot of frustration you feel from dying a lot. Plus, even when the game is very difficult, it's so smile-inducing you won't care about dying for the tenth time trying to get past a tough spot. It's one thing for a game to be entertaining, but at the end of the day, if the gameplay isn't good, the whimsy and imagination matters very little. Thankfully Rayman is worth its weight in gold, and then some.

I also have to add that the co-op in this game is exceptional. Its silly craziness definitely compliments everything else in the game. My wife and I have had an absolute blast playing this together, and any game that my wife and I bond over gets extra points in my book. I can't even imagine how fun and crazy 4-player co-op would be! The ability to choose who you want to play as is a nice touch too, as there are tons of unlockable skins and characters in this game as you progress.

One more thing I must touch on is the value. Most games like this get the condescending remark, "should've been a downloadable title." Well, I can honestly tell you that this game is HUGE. I played quite a bit and figured I was nearing the end of the game, fairly satisfied with the length. Then, I found out that I was only HALFWAY through the game, with much, much more challenging levels awaiting me in the second half. When you consider there are major incentives to come back and see it all for completionists, this game is well worth the money it costs.

As a series, the Rayman games have always been known for their whimsical imagination, beautiful art design, silly stories, lovely humor, and an overall saturation of pleasant FUN. Rayman Origins has all of these in spades and much, much more. I think I may have found my new favorite Rayman game here, and to take Rayman 2's place in that way is no small feat to me. I don't think there's anyone on earth with a working, functional heart that won't have it captivated in some capacity by this game. It is one of the best games of the year. In every way and at all times, this game always focuses on you having fun, and it succeeds in that endeavor. Rayman Origins isn't just the triumphant return of one of video gaming's most beloved characters, it is a celebration of the very spirit of gaming and as such, it is everything a video game should be. Buy this game, have fun, and get lost in the joyous experience Rayman Origins has to offer.

The art, the music, the core gameplay, and the level design in this game deserve recognition and applause! Me and my friends were playing this game together and we were always laughing! We enjoyed this game so much! I originally rented this game from Gamefly now I decided to own this game just to give my contribution to the studio. I feel like I haven't enjoyed a coop game like this for a long time! This is not those split screen coop experience you have in call of duty games, instead, this game provides the pure old school fun time when you have a friend over playing a game together and laughing.

Every year there are always good games that come out and that get swept under the rug for one reason or another. They go by being missed by gamers who will only hear about them later on down the line. Rayman Origins is one of those games. It is a game that executes everything well. It's a tightly put together package that's fun and rewarding based entirely on the merits of gameplay. For those who enjoyed the platforming games such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Brothers... Rayman Origins is a must play game. It is by far one of the most encompassing 2D side scrollers you'll ever play.

As you can imagine there's pretty much no plot to Rayman Origins. And beyond that, Origins isn't really about any origin whatsoever. Rather the "origin" refers to how Rayman used to be. A 2D Side Scrolling Platformer. In other words, Rayman gets back to its roots. There are no raving rabbids here. Just pure amazing level design. The game is incredibly simple in its mechanics and that's part of what really makes it work. Just about anyone can pick up the game and learn the basics of the mechanics. Mastering the game, however, is another story entirely.

The game begins simple. The first level is inviting. And when you first begin you'll soon earn the ability to punch before later on getting other abilities such as the ability to fly or shrink later on. The game paces itself well by holding back on most of your abilities. Only giving them to you when you rescue certain characters. And mostly making sure you utilize them well in the environment they introduce them in. The learning curve in Rayman is almost non-existent. You'll slip right into the game real easy and the game gives you ample time to practice your new abilities. There are four different characters to choose from, but choosing one over another doesn't really make much of a difference. Rather, there seem to be four mainly to bring out the multiplayer. You and three of your friends can hop on at the same time and it can be quite fun to do so... or frustrating depending on how you play. Like LittleBigPlanet and New Super Mario Bros., less is more when it comes to conquering the campaign. Your friends can easily mess you up or something, but it's actually not too menacing, given that it does allow for more risks when there are four instead of one. A character can make a sacrifice for rare items. Or you can tag in other characters when you need to.

It's a good thing that Rayman Origins doesn't punish the player when things are grim, however. The game is challenging. It begins quite simple enough, but before you know it the game ramps up in difficulty rather fast. You won't even be halfway through before you realize just what's being thrown at you in each level. And some are going to require some good pattern recognition or some trial and error to get down just right. Regardless of this, however, you rarely feel like the game is being unfair. Most enemies are easy to take out. It's not the enemies that'll be a problem, however, it'll mostly boil down to the environmental hazards mixed in with the well tuned level designs. Each failure doesn't really feel like failure either, because the game isn't out to punish you. There are a decent amount of checkpoints scattered throughout, and there isn't a limit to how many times you can fail.

This is also good because Rayman Origins has A LOT of levels to traverse. It's about as robust as a 2D platformer can get. Each level ends when you rescue a bunch critters (called Electoons) but the game demands replay because you'll be tallied up at the end of the level. Rescuing Electoons isn't just how you complete stages, it's how you unlock more. And if you manage to go through a level collecting all the "Lums" (basically coins) then you'll rescue more Electoons. There are also cages of captured Electoons hidden in every level. If you want to master Rayman Origins and explore everything it has to offer, you'll need to find them all. And this is going to require replaying some levels over and over again. Sometimes with a friend.

Perhaps the most rewarding thing about Rayman Origins is by far it's presentation. The game has an incredible sense of humor and some great tunes. The introduction is funny, and so are some of the levels (who would've thought using weenies as platforms wouldn't be such a bad idea?). But perhaps where the presentation shines most is in the graphical and aesthetic capacity. This is where Rayman truly comes alive. The graphics opt for style more so than anything. Certainly Rayman Origins fails to live up to the photorealistic quality of other games such as Uncharted 3 or Gears of War. But what makes this game so important is that it showcases that style is just as important as the actual graphical output. Rayman Origins doesn't have a lot of POWER behind it, but it has a visual flair that you just don't see too much in games these days. The aesthetics are what make Rayman Origins so easy on the eyes. The environments are just amazing looking. And this is because Rayman Origins has character. And art design that helps separate the game from everything else out there. A lot of games look pretty based on the actual power behind them, but it's nice to see a game that treats its visuals as though they were on a canvas for an artist to paint. It goes beyond being something shiny and something that actually exemplifies what gaming can do when developers try a stylistic approach rather than just an all out powerful one. Every frame of Rayman Origins is brimming with visual flair and style. It is easily one of the prettiest games I've ever seen. The fact that it plays well makes it that much more rewarding. At some point when playing through the levels the design just clicks and everything flows well.

This, of course, brings about the issue some gamers have with the game. Rayman Origins is a totally 2D side scroller. All the way down to the last pixel. The graphical power that the game DOESN'T have has caused some gamers to wonder if sixty dollars is really worth it. This is actually much more dependent on how much gameplay you want. Rayman Origins offers a surprisingly large amount of gameplay and depth. It'll take you a while to do everything the game asks of you. Primarily because in order to do it, you'll need to play through it a second time.

If anything, the quality of the game speaks volumes. The levels are incredible, it's a great looking game and it can be enjoyed with friends. It's a game that doesn't throw in too much and manages to hit a sweet spot because of how it is stylistically constructed. It's easy to think that EVERY game has to innovate in some ways, but gaming has come to a point where we no longer needs to try so hard to be good. Sometimes mastering the techniques we've learned through the years is better than coming up with a new thing that fails. It's the execution that makes the game work so well, not the standalone mechanics themselves. Rayman Origins will surely be an underplayed game... but it most certainly won't be under appreciated.

First off, I never write reviews. This game is so awesome and so under appreciated that I feel COMPELLED to write my thoughts on this game. It's a mixture of all the best elements of 2D Super Mario Bros (small part of Sonic), mixed in with stunning HD graphics.

GAMEPLAY

It's a pretty simple concept ... Jump, Hit, and run. The first few levels are warm ups and ease you into the movements. After that the difficulty starts to ramp up quickly and you find yourself replaying spots a few times. Whenever you die, though, you don't really feel like you lost because the level replay is really high. There's also a lot of level secrets which is really fun to find and discover.

MULTIPLAYER CO-OP

Incredibly fun experience!!! First thing that happens is all your friends say "what a weird game" soon to be followed up with "I think this is my favorite game of all time" ... Very hard to put down when you have 4 people jumping and bashing through levels.

SOUND AND MUSIC

Fun, quirky, energetic, well fitting, and at times stunning! The music score is incredibly well produced and a lot of the SFX match pitch and harmony to the score (I enjoy a lot since I'm a music producer)

GRAPHICS

All the animations are super fluid. Graphics are super HD quality (vibrant, beautiful, etc). Is the game 3D? Nope. I can assuredly say that this game would not be as cool looking if it was in 3D. The 2D sprite graphics have a certain appeal that can't be replicated in 3D because all the art is hand drawn! Don't hate on the 2D!

REPLAY VALUE

Very high. Replay with friends. Replay to find secrets. It's a blast.

THE BAD

We'll have to wait another 5 years or so for another Rayman because of the attention to detail!!! :(

MY BACKGROUND

I'm in my late 20s. I play most of the genres of games. I play COD:MW3, Mortal Kombat, Halo, Resistance, Uncharted, etc and I'll play coop Rayman just as much as COD or Resistance.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Get this game. You will not be disappointed.

Want Rayman Origins Discount?

What I've missed the most since the 16-bit era were enjoyable fun little games that didn't try too hard to be mature. Books and movies provide all the entertainment outlets I need for serious subjects, and they do it better as well. Video games should be pick-up-and-play and fun for all. Rayman Origins does an exemplary job in being all that's right about gaming. I won't rehash what other great reviews have already stated about this game, the bottom line is that it's a perfect platforming experience without any flaws, whatsoever. I would highly suggest this for PS3 and 360 owners who don't dabble in classic games or other downloadable games as there are very few full retail games like it on these 2 systems. I always thought that Nintendo continues to do well because they welcome the fun and whimsical themed games, but if the PS3/360 audience can likewise welcome these kinds of games, all the better.

The only note for people: This game is not easy at all, I got stuck for quite a while on just the third world, but for some reason I never felt bored on being stuck, it's a very addicting game that rewards good skills.

I was quite skeptical when I bought this, but it has proved useful and a lot of fun! I started out burning small bushes and shrubs. Unfortunately as I was chasing the neighbors cat out of my yard I set my house on fire. In a panic, I tried to put the fire out with the flame thrower like it was a fire extinguisher. My house went up like dry grass in a volcano. oh well. The street gangs have a whole new respect for me and I am unstoppable on a basketball court. Well i got this today in the mail and it was quite heavy (80lbs to be exact) and inside the box was a fully operational flamethrower!!!!

Works pretty well against house pests.... I'd say it shoots flaming napalm about 60 feet. The only bad thing though is that it might be a little tricky finding jellied gasoline depending on where you live. (I live in REDNECK country so it is very plentiful) BESIDES that, yeah its a must buy

This is a a good quality stick. I like the way it sits on the leg for use on the couch. Good adjustments to get it to fit to your hand size which is important. I have only been able to try it with one game and it worked well. The thing I am disappointed about, is the fact that it does not work with Battlefield 3 which is why I purchased it. I'd also like to note that I emailed the customer service department of the company before I purchased, asking if it supported BF3. I got no answer.

It has limited abilities and can only work properly with a few old and outdated PS3 flight games. When it does work the trigger does not respond on PS3 flight games. Instead other buttons do that job, and there are many other buttons to fumble around with.

It is not a universal flight stick and only works with a few select old outdated games.

I dont recommend it, but it does look cool.

Nier is amazing.

I've been eagerly awaiting this game since I heard about it. I thought it would either be a total flop, or it may be interesting. The trailers where cryptic, no information online, and mostly skeptical critics commenting on demos they played. I heard that it was too hack and slash, then I heard that it was a totally in depth RPG complete with gardening and fishing. Its both.

I know, that's really weird. It doesn't usually go. But it does here. The game play is rather difficult at first, at least for someone not accustomed to hack and slash action type fighting. The fact that it lacks a "lock on" function is a real draw back to me, honestly. But over all, it's enjoyable, and challenging. Some of the fights have reminded me of Zelda with their puzzles and problem solving aspects to it.

The game starts out with a bang, and within the first half an hour I'm certain you will be intrigued and must play more! It makes you want to know more, it sucks you in. The story, so far, is like nothing I have seen before. It reminds me, in looks, of Shadow of the Colossus, except about a million times better because now there are towns and many people and creatures to interact with. It's also beautiful, and the back drop is indeed haunting, while still keeping a hint of Whimsy for the Square Enix touch. I'm so pleased that Nier has come out, when I was tired of being disappointed by SE's Final Fantasy releases post FFIX, and I was recently disappointed with FXIII's lack of an open world, well Nier fills that in spades.

The world is vast and gigantic! and you will be sent into it for many reasons, to deliver fragile packages that will break if you are knocked down or jump, to kill sheep and harvest mutton to a fussy lady with tons of fat children, or to run off and save your Daughter. And no, I'm not at all feeling that I lost out on the Japanese story, I like it much more as a father. I think it is more unique, and it makes more sense.

The characters are outrageous, and will often be saying very filthy things that will have you laughing out loud. I would not advise playing this game around small children. :x but many times I will laugh so loud that people who are in the other room will ask me what happened, and I will recount the video games content. It's very funny, and very unexpected.

The game is an all around hit. I've been playing it non stop since I got it, and I only stopped because I got caught on a particularly hard boss and my fingers started to hurt, not because I wanted to stop.

There are multiple endings, and quests that effect your characters proficiency in many of his day to day things, like fishing or gardening. And of course, he has his daughter at home, he cannot ignore her, he has to go home and check on her too. All of these actions affect the outcome of the game. The world is completely open, you decide in what order you do things, and it is beautiful and wonderful. It reminds me of the open worlds in old Final Fantasy games. (I am a Final Fantasy loving geek, so you have to understand, that is a huge compliment in my mind! hehe)

My only complaints is with the camera angles... some of them are terrible in certain boss fights, and the camera control can be buggy in small spaces. I dont consider it a huge issue, or any debilitating issue of the game, though it can be frustrating in the grand scale multi-tier boss fights. Also, it appears that you can only play as Nier, and not as Kaine or any of the other supporting characters.

The story is wonderful, the game play is fun and the music is absolutely fantastic. I would buy the Soundtrack without a blink if I found it on sale anywhere yet! All around, the game is a total hit! Any RPG or action fan would love it! I can see the "God of War" and "Devil May Cry" fans going for this, just as much as the "Final Fantasy and other RPG" fans as well! (I'm in the later category, and I have no complaints!) I love it. I recommend Nier, and I'm excited to see more of this new Franchise of SE's. ^^

Edit: I just found the soundtrack on iTunes, all 44 some+ tracks. It's amazing! This game is really phenomenal on all the right levels :)

Edit: I've played through the story, and I have played the second ending. Oh... my god. No really, I can only ADD stars to my review.

I the game has 4 endings, all revealing more shocking and unexpected story twists... new cut scenes, and other FUN stuff. After you beat the game, you do not have to restart the whole game and get to keep your character info and weapons/items (to avoid spoilers I will leave it at that) I love this game.

I find myself thinking about it, months after buying and playing it, and still wanting to play it. And the music, wow phenomenal! I still want to, and plan to play through the other 2 available endings, I'm procrastinating because once I play them, there will be no more Nier, not until they release another, and that makes me sad. This game is really something wonderful!

As stated above, this is what this review will be.

First things first: Yes, for a PS3 game the quality of the graphics are... lacking. You can see giant pixelated horror everywhere, ragged edges like they're going out of style, etc. But the overall style is nice enough and it's not like we've never dealt with pixels and ragged edges before. And yes, there is side-questing, and yes the running back and forth is tedious, but it's not needed unless you want to be able to get everything to see the C and D endings, and even then it only needs done once. The hack and slash gameplay is also average. It's solid. Not omg spectacular, not horrible. It's solid.

ON TO THE GUSHING. Okay, despite the sub-par graphics, average gameplay, runrunrunrun everywhere sidequests... I love this game. Am completely in love with it. I finish maybe MAYBE! 5% of the games I start. I got through two of the endings of Nier in three days. That was about 35 hours I spent playing Nier in three days. And it was an absolutely wonderful trip. Have also bought the soundtrack on iTunes. Absolutely amazing soundtrack, every song.

Maybe nostalgia is working in the game's favor for me. Something about the overall feel of the world reminds me of a SNES or PS1 game. Facade and the Aerie in particular just SCREAM old school rpg setting, and I expected little white-bordered blue boxes to pop up over the huts in the Aerie whenever someone inside spoke. But irregardless, the setting just sucked me in. I have a soft-spot for post-appacalyptic worlds with the remnants of civilization showing up here and there, slowly revealing sinister secrets that make you shudder.

I also found each character outstanding, from Nier and his companions to quite a few of the NPCs, to several of the enemies in New Game+. Nier's devotion to his daughter is just the sweetest thing I've seen in years and he made for such a breath of fresh air. The other party memebers are equally wonderful, and the banter that goes between them all is great.

Also, I'm not the type to get emotional when playing, watching, or reading something, and maybe it's because I was emerging nerves raw from a tough semester, but wow. I went through half a box of tissues in the first playthrough, and then went through the rest in New Game+. Nier does not pull its emotional punches, and if the game wants you to feel like a monster for progressing... yeah. Ouch. Definitely a point on the game's favor since I think the last game to make me bawl was Shadow of the Collosus.

So yes. I think it's time to bring my deluge to a close. If you have a soft spot for the strange desolate rpgs from the SNES and PS1 eras go for it. I've looked at many of the professional reviews online and I wonder if we played the same game... everything they found cliche or bad I found sweet and charming. Eh, maybe they've just become too jaded.

A new approach from Square-Enix which is a combination of Hack/Slash with RPG elements. The question is, should you buy this game or is this game the type of game for you?

Graphics: 8/10

Overall the graphics are pretty good with the exception of the background and the building structures in the game being very bland and have no details at all. If you are looking for a God of War or Final Fantasy XIII graphics type of game, sorry this is not close to those two games.

Controls: 6/10

This is what really kills the game in my opinion. The controls are extremely clunky and non responsive, if the controls and movement were as fluid as Devil May Cry / Bayonetta I can say this game would be amazing. Not to mention at times you get the extreme awkward camera positions that blind / hinder you from moving or attacking mobs.

Sound: 9/10

The voice acting in this game is top notch; I can boldly say its as good if not better then Final Fantasy XIII. The composed score in the game is marvelous and Square-Enix fans would be able to fit in and appreciate it.

Gameplay: 9/10

As stated above, this game is a hack-slash type of game which shares RPG elements. For people who say this game is like Devil May Cry / God of War, they have no idea what they are talking about, because it is nothing like those two games. The basic structure of the game consist of your hero being able to equip different weapons, he also has a mysterious book which can cast magic. Upon leveling up your character you obtain more magic spells and able to buy/upgrade your weapons. The neat part is you can also customize your weapon and magic to enhance the effect with random enhancement items "Word Parts" This game has a decent open world, which a lot of side-quest attach to it. There is also a decent amount of humor between the hero and the talking book that keeps you excited and not bored out of your mind.

Overall: 8/10

The game was done beautifully and overall it's a great game with a pretty unique storyline. The game is not short compared to DMC / GOW, so you won't be paying $59.99 for 5-8 hours of play. Even with the controls and movement being clunky, I think the game deserves a rental at least. On the side note, the NA version of the game supports only the older Nier with a father and daughter relationship. As for the JP PS3 version it supports the younger Nier with a Brother and Sister relationship. There might be plans that the NA might get the younger Nier, since the start menu of the game has a section grayed out labeled "Download Content"

Playing this game was a rather different experience for me. When the first part of the game ended, I was praying that it was actually the end of the game, because quite frankly, I just wanted it to be over. I found the combat bland, the graphics average at best, the sidequests were ridiculously bad, and story was weak.

However, the second half of the game was much better. First, the story got MUCH better, even moving at some parts (Emil and Kaine were great characters). Perhaps more important for the overall enjoyment of the game, the combat got more fun once I was able to upgrade my weapons and my magic spells to satisfying levels. The sidequests were still horrible (well, the fishing was kind of cool), but the more enjoyable combat made them tolerable.

I had two main problems with the game. First, I love RPGs, but this game felt like an RPG that the developer went out of their way to make it less RPG-ish. Leveling up made you more powerful, but you didn't have the opportunity to tune your character by spending XP on specific stats or anything like that. You could use "words" to upgrade your weapons and spells, but it felt pretty generic. As a matter of fact, I played through the entire game with only the first two spells that we were granted. I tried the others, but never really found anything special about them in relation to the first two. So in general, it looks like an RPG, but it really didn't play like one, which was a disappointment to me.

The second problem was the save system. In some cases, it was downright sadistic. A couple of times I had to waste over an hour of progress because I had to quit, and there was no save point in sight. Just be sure to get comfortable and have a large block of time before you enter the Barren Temple for the first time!

Had the game ended when I initially wanted it to, I would have given it a 1-star rating. However, it got much better, and I ended up enjoying it. It's not great, but it's pretty good. If you get it, just be prepared to get through a very slow start.

This game is not a four star game. This game is not a fiver star game. This game is a three star game, but I love it like a five star game. This game combines many different styles of game play and unfortunately does all of them in a mediocre manner. Aside from the music and the story, Nier is simply a mediocre game. The fighting game play has little strategy to it, the side-scrolling platforming parts are entertaining but usually simplistic and short, the overhead shoot sequences are interesting, but get old after you do them a few times, the puzzles are usually fun and fresh, and I could go on and about the good ideas that only turned out semi-good. It almost feels like the creators of the game started something amazing but slacked off half-way through.

The main reason this drops to a three star game is that over all the game feels lacking. Everything seems to almost be awesome in the game. The combat is one of my main concerns. The magic is awesome, but the melee gets really really boring after awhile.

So why do I still love this game despite it's mediocrity? The most amazing part of the game is the music. The sound track for the game is around $50+. I attribute this to the fact that the music is amazing. I've spent more time listening to the music than I have playing the game. Truly one of the best game soundtracks I have ever seen. Secondly the story is very interesting and engaging. The game has four different endings and the overall story is quite good.

So in conclusion this game will be a hit or miss for you depending on what you are looking for in a game. If you want something different and can still appreciate a game that fails in whats commonly considered some of the most important areas of game, this game will most likely suit you well. Hope this helps with your decision. I'm going to go listen to the soundtrack on Youtube.

When I got the controller it turned out to be a PS2 controller. My brother can't even play on it, and it was supposed to be his Christmas present. He was happy until he saw that it was not the right controller, and everybody laughed at me because it wasn't the right one. /=
