This dance pad is of good quality with a nice 1-inch foam insert so you can use it without wearing shoes and hurting your legs. Pad is very responsive and works for hours without problems.

Giving it 4out5 stars because the pad does skid on carpet so it has to be readjusted every couple of songs. Its abit pricey so I wouldn't recommend this as a first dance pad. Try the cheaper ones first and upgrade to this if you like the DDR game genre.

A couple of things to know:

1. This pad is NOT Bluetooth or wireless. Sony prevents third-party manufacturers from using the PS3 native-Bluetooth technology. It is USB with a 6' cord and will use up one of the PS3 USB ports.

2. Pad will NOT work with PS3 80GB systems! This is listed in the item description but can be easily missed.

3. Pad does have the PS3 "PS" button (actually a tap-area on the pad). If you have a PS3 then I'm sure you know how important that is. Also has the "Select" and "Start" tap-area on front of the pad.

4. Instructions are really poor...as in "why even include them" poor. Nothing really to know except assemble the foam pad insert (comes in 3 interlocking puzzle-like pieces which fit very well into the pad cover), plug it in (has a red-light which comes on to let you know it is plugged in) and ready for use.

The arrows feel just about the same as any pad I've used before. I use it on the PC and Stepmania works fine with it. I don't need to make any adjustments for lag. The raised inserts feel fine, and aren't too thin like some pads, and they haven't moved one inch in 2 total hours of heavy play.

Moving onto the USB connection, it works perfectly. Windows 7 picks it up as a gamepad instantly, and pressing the directional arrows results only in buttons being pressed. In other words, it doesn't send any directional (POV hat or X/Y axis) information. No special buttons need to be held. It just works.

There's a bright red LED that stays on while it's connected (doesn't blink or anything). No clue what it's significance is other than determining that the pad is working and not DOA.

For long-term DDR players, and even newbies, the same lies present in all third party pads are still here: The bottom isn't really "non-slip" by anyone's definition (is a thin rubber layer on the bottom really that expensive?). The "hard foam" is the same 5-layer crap everyone makes now. Incidentally, that latter lie is where the 1-star price came from in the review. If you're not going to actually include hard, dense foam, don't list it. First thing I did was throw that nonsense out and insert my old Ignition pad's foam. If anyone knows of any manufacturers that don't outright lie about this feature, please drop me a line.

In case you're wondering if it's worth spending twice as much on Amazon than it is on eBay, I'm only gonna say this: 1. Amazon's return policy is VERY friendly (they send you a shipping label to print and stick). 2. Due to that friendly policy, Amazon is probably a LOT less likely to ship you a bad pad.

All in all, this is a great pad. Keep in mind, I have no delusions about lastability. 150-180 pound user playing 9/10-foot songs daily for 1 hour will kill a pad in about 3 months. You WILL see a follow-up from me when this pad finally bites it. If it's in 1 month, the stars WILL drop. If it makes it more than 3, I might re-consider that foam penalty.

Our dorm bought 2 of these pads to replace our old Red Octane pads. We put the high density foam inserts from the old Red Octane pads in these new pads. They are NOT as sensitive as the red octane pads and the buttons are different sized, but you can get used to this over time. The only downside is all of us have problems with hitting/getting the back button to respond. This could just be chance on our part or a flaw in the design. These pads also slip more than the old Red Octane pads, so we ended up putting an exercise mat underneath them to keep them from sliding. In terms of wear, the pads have held up 3 months so far and are still going strong. For comparison, Red Octane pads seemed to last about a year at our dorm.

UPDATE:

So, the back arrow on one of the pads finally broke. The pads lasted 9 months with 6 people playing 3 times a week at 9-10-11 feet for approximately 2 hours each session. The other pad is still working.

UPDATE 2:

The other pad broke about 2 months later. We bought two new pads. One pad is still working great months later. The other pad's hardware (not sensors, which normally break after wear and tear) stopped working about 2 months in. Since a bunch of us are electrical engineers, we are looking into taking the hardware from one of the old pads and attaching it to this new pad.

UPDATE 3:

The second round of pads died after about 6 months heavy use. We have now changed over to

PS2 USB Energy HD 1" Foam Deluxe Dance Pad 3 in 1

First of all, the Foam Deluxe pad comes with the one inch foam if you don't already have it.

Second, the arcade buttons are way better on the Foam Deluxe pads!

The Foam Deluxe pads also seem to be more responsive than these ps3 ones.

Bottom line...these pads are okay, but as heavy users we have moved on to different pads.

This mat is indeed compatible with all ps3 systems but only the one with 4 USB ports. Those that have been discontinued basically. The newer ones with only 2 USB ports will not be able to use this mat. I went to the DDR site linked on Amazon to find that out. I have a backwards compatible 80GB system that has 4 USB ports so it will work with mine.

I was surprised to see that there is no Bluetooth connection for this pad. The picture shows no wire and other pads are wireless.

The instructions were laughably horrible. Here is an actual quote:

"Please not will dancemat to put the place which expose to the sun in the solar storm."

The pad itself seems to be high quality, and no skid. But for the price I expected it to be wireless as well.

I gave this to my nephew as an early Christmas present and he loves it. The color is really nice, it has almost an iridescent sheen, but its opaque. Better than in the pictures. I mainly picked it out for the color, blue is his favorite, so I didn't really care what the game was. He tried Invizimals a few times, but was more interested in some other games he received. He is only 9, but almost seemed a little too mature for the game, but maybe that is just his taste. The camera is a great edition to this pack, he really enjoyed taking pictures and making short videos. He takes his PSP almost everywhere, and receives tons of compliments on it. I would highly recommend it, its a great value, the camera is really fun, and the limited edition color really makes it stand out. One downside is that the game and umd movie come in a soft case only, he had some travel umd cases, so it wasn't that much of an issue, but still not as nice as the real boxes.

This was a super hit for christmas! My daughter loves it. As for me, the parent.. It shipped quickly, it is an awesome color blue and works perfectly so far. The price is a bit much, but worth it seing that it comes with a movie, game and camera. Meatballs was a strange choice for the package but you can always trade it in toward something else.

Can I start off by saying, I LOVE THIS SYSTEM AND THE GAME. This brings back memories as a kid because years ago I would play games forever and I'm a FINAL FANTASY FANATIC but back to why you should get this. Originally this color along with the other CARNIVAL COLORS is sold in JAPAN,EUROPE,ASIA AND THE UK but not in America (PERIOD!!) unless you purchase it from the internet but there is one sold in stores that comes with one of the METAL GEAR SOLID GAMES and its the SPIRIT GREEN PSP,otherwise you will be getting the standard black,white or silver bundles. The system is region 1 locked, meaning you cannot and I repeat CANNOT watch UMD MOVIES from other countries but the games aren't for instance only movies in the USA are able to watch but you can purchase games and play them from anywhere because there isnt a restriction on them but this goes for any psp model you buy in America unless you downgrade your firmware but I WOULDNT RECOMMEND IT because you will void the warranty. So do not FRET as long as you just enjoy what you have instead of trying to manipulate this system in anyway.This VIBRANT BLUE BUNDLE PACK is a steal with the INVIZIMALS UMD, which is a lot of fun. Groups of all ages would enjoy this game. Cool, cool, cool. If you want a PSP you'll love it. If you like pokemon, you'll like it. If you think it's stupid, you're wrong. i have this and got Little Big Planet for it. I use it everyday. These skins look cool, but after a week, one had to completely be removed for it didn't stick anymore.

The others are pealing around the edges, and they seem to "get in the way" of playing the game. Not very impressed at all with these. It's a great idea, but sure is not what I had in mind when ordering. They were very expensive temporary stickers.

Just got these. They look fine but there is no packaging at all. These were intended as a Christams gift. What you get is simply the sheet of decals in a Priority Mail envelope. While it may make environmental sense, it's makes it diffictult to wrap and give as a gift. Wish there would have been more info about this in the description as I now have to eat $7 on return shipping.

UPDATE: decided to keep them afterall, but after 3 days of VERY moderate use, the edges curled up making them useless. Wish I could give it no stars.....

I've been looking for a PS3 controller that had a similar layout to the XBOX360 one for awhile. My hands are just too big for the PS3 and it makes it hard to play sometimes. I researched a lot of different controllers and all of them had very lousy reviews. I saw this one and was skeptical, but decided to buy it since it was only $30. Best purchase I've made in a long time. The controller actually has weight and feels durable, the fans are an awesome touch, not too loud even on the highest setting, and the lights are definitely cool for night time gaming. The sticks are gonna feel a bit stiff compared to the PS3's, so if your used to the fluid motion of the PS3 thumbsticks, this one might take some getting used to. The only gripe I have with this controller are the L2 and R2 triggers. There more of a pull trigger like the XBOX360, but its feels very odd, as if you almost can't tell how hard you're pressing it. Other than that, it is a GREAT controller and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who is either looking for a bigger controller for the PS3, or something just cool and new.

Being a long time Xbox 360 owner (until about 6 months ago) it was difficult to adjust to the smaller size PS3 controller and the analog sticks placement, so it was imperative I found a controller that not only worked well at a decent price BUT was designed to look and feel like a 360 controller. For months I had been researching and comparing third party PS3 controllers and it seemed like I would never find a 2nd controller suitable to fit my needs, well alas I am happy to say I finally found one. This controller works as advertised, in fact the sticks feel even better than my dual-shock 3. I've had this controller for about five weeks now and the buttons, triggers and analog sticks feel just as they did when I first took it out of the packaging, and that's playing roughly 10+ hours a week. The blue LED lights although not necessary to use the controller gives it added pizzazz, the two speed fan is really an ingenious idea your hands actually stay dry and comfortable during long gaming sessions, and I love the rubberized grips. The only cons (if you can call it that) are...1) It's not wireless 2) No six-axis 3) You cannot turn PS3 on with the home button (you can however turn it off). These three issues aren't a problem for me because I don't think I've played a game yet in which I absolutely had to use the six-axis feature, and the cable for the controller is about 10 feet long and there is no battery to recharge. There is only one MAJOR problem I did have with purchasing this controller, and it's that I didn't buy it through Amazon...I went off and bought it at Bust Buy paying nearly $10 dollars more. In conclusion, if you are looking for an affordable replacement or 2nd controller for your PS3 that actually works extremely well and don't care about it being wired trust me, this is the controller you want, and Amazon does have the best deal.

UPDATE: My son loved this thing from the moment we received it but alas, it is no more. It has been 10 months from the original purchase date and I am sad and dissapointed to say, the controller has been thrown away. This controller was fun while it lasted but despite the six months or so of usage it just couldn't compare to the official controllers from Sony. It just stopped working one day for no reason. If you need a quick fix and cannot shell out $55+ on an official Sony remote, you can try this one out, after all it is now under twenty dollars so for 6 months or so it isn't too bad of a deal. But if your looking for a long term relationship go with the best.

edit: 11/24,this controller is selling for $19.99. a definite must buy (only if money is short) considering the Sixaxis is still above $45.00. a better deal than the PDP controller without the fans. the fans are awesome!

edit: analog sticks click when pushed (L3, R3), and not the D pad as I mentioned in my video. hard to explain, but if you were playing BFBC2 or BF3 and you needed to crouch you'd notice a major difference when comparing this with a standard PS3 Sixaxis controller. it's harder to push, stiff, and makes a loud clicking noise.

pros:

overall feels great, perfect size, fans work well and keep hands cool while playing, D pad works extremely well, accurate (no deadzone, as noted in last year's model) analog sticks feel great except when pushing down is necessary.

cons:

pushing analog sticks (L3, R3)click and feel clumsy to use, start button on my controller doesn't function, can't turn on PS3 with controller.

I have a lot of confidence that this company will work out the issue with L3, R3. I have a lot of confidence in this company. I would even go so far that PowerA can make a better controller for next year that can compete or outshine the standard PS3 controller.

First off, I only play FIFA 12, but I'm sure this relates to any game that requires constant motion of the character or object. The PS3 stock controller, because of its placement of the left stick (lower), would cause pain in my left hand, to the point I had to stop playing! I looked around extensively searching for a better solution, read that xbox 360 users didn't suffer the same pain when playing the 360 version of the FIFA game for hours and hours. This led me to some of the Power A controllers, and I opted for this one for a few reasons over the wireless version. Some issues I've read about on the wireless version (Power A) was dead zones, and non-bluetooth wireless. I also noticed that this air-flo version is about a year newer than the wireless version, and there are slight design differences that appealed to me. The left stick if you look closely on the air flo version is slightly closer to the left edge, meaning it would bring the thumb even closer to the rest of the hand, meaning more comfort and less strain. I honestly at first thought the lights and fan thing was tacky, but I got the box, plugged it in, and this thing is comfortable, no strain on the left hand (or right), the fan works a charm!!! Well worth the money, just get it. The only thing I noticed is that sometimes (very rarely) the stick is a little over sensitive, but I think it's just something I have to get used to. This review is for all those PS3 gamers out there with a sore left hand...try this one out!

This PS3 controller was just everything I expect it would be. The ergonomic of the controller is very good. The fans keep your hands fresh and cool (it has 2 levels of power). The LED lights looks pretty good, specially for night-time gaming. The controller is wired but the cable is very-long... I mean for a wired controller, so for me it's not a con. I had read in others reviews about the L3 & R3 buttons clicking when you press them and it's true but who cares. It's like you complaint by the clicking that your PC's mouse do... again no point for complaining about it. The home button doesn't turn on your PS3 system, so this may be the only con I could mark on it (however, I don't feel this is a con neither...). Overall this is a great controller that feel just as good as an original one.

I only have two problems with this game; the graphics could have been just a bit cleaner considering it's on a next gen console, and the environments are a little strange looking. Other than that, Physics on drifting and driving are not too toyish and not too sim, good balance. And I'm so glad I get to mod an S14 with name brands like JIC Magic, Tomei and C-West.

I love it, and I can't wait for NFS:Pro Street to come out so I can go even crazier, and eventually have no life. :)

I've had the game for just about 24 hours now, I bought this because Im an avid racing GAME fan (not so much in real life zz). I was feigning for something good on PS3. Most racers I've shopped for look like they suck or are not my type, So to compensate I'd been back on the Playstation2 playing INDYCARseries (I STRONGLY recommend to everybody reading this) and Nascar Chase For The Cup 05 (the absolute best one before they started wwatering their game down and eventually stopped making it). SuperBike 09 IS the Perfect Game. SBK 10 and 11, don't even waste your time, they watered those down too with arcade racing all the way around. Its sickening

SBK 09 (Super Bike World Championships), is Phenomenal for those who understand they are going to bust their ass a few times and they will need to (OF COURSE) learn the tracks and do the training. After I bought this game, I saw people complain about the "Training Mode" saying it won't "HELP" you do anything. Training Mode is exactly what its supposed to be, You go out the By Yourself, and practice turning laps, learning the track and getting used to the dynamics of riding the bike. I've only had this game for 24 HOURS, I've NEVER RIDDEN A BIKE even on a Simulation, and I can say if you go into this with a decent sense of what racing is about, you will go from spilling out, to turning laps and continuously learning lessons of racing and riding these bikes on a road course. Training mode, is A+.

If you need the training wheels just go on to the lower settings and work from there and try the SIM or EXTREME (highest level) settings later.

TO THOSE WHO THINK THIS GAME IS ONLY A PAINFUL MOTORBIKE RACING SIM

{I am a SBK newbie, but Im racing on ALL the extreme settings, so don't bypass this game. Racing here will be fantastic, they have fantastic settings and you should easily be able to find what works for you and still find challenges all over the place that will make you love this game,}

The gameplay is Phenomenal, and I have yet to race , but these racing graphics (and physics) blow any GAME PERIOD out of the way, including racers. But i think you get the picture by now as to how i feel about the game, what I'll do now is list to you impressive features, then a wishlist for future versions of this series.

*riders fall off bikes just like you would if you got your *** out there making newbie mistakes (lol)

*bikes get damaged when they flip and roll all over the pavement

*riders get injured when they bail from there collapsing bikes and tumble twist and cartwheel all over the track (If U Fall, Try to fall in the Sanddd!)

*track conditions actually matter, not just in weather, Sand can be tracked onto the track (watch out!)

*Weather conditions, Sunny, Cloudy/Overcast, Wet (not raining but slick with various wet spots), Raining (breathtaking raining Sim graphics and physics)

also, Watch Those Rubber Stripps, (the red&white road course lines). Theyre much more slippery than in Stock Cars and F1, If your not ready to hit them You Will Bust Your Ass)

*Large Variety Of Teams Bikes And Riders (im a newbie but there is alot of them)

*Pit Garages

(this is more technical info, ignore if u need to)

But I Love The Pit Garage and What You Can Do In It. The telemetry is my absolute favorite part so far, that you can track what you did right or wrong on any given lap you need to look evaluate. It helps me visualize what gears to be in at certain parts, and learn how to be confident on the track. The advice the engineers give is useful as well, those nuggets can help me learn something I never even thought about, especially as a newbie. BIKE SETTINGS, i want to salivate at learning and Loooking at all the mechanics of these bikes. Its not very hard to pick up though if you have any experience real or simulated with race cars.)

*HIGHLY impressive presention, even from the Main Menu on throughout everything else. These presentations take the Cake.

*Settings

(I just turned 22, I play on extreme settings, etc. My brother is 10 or (11 :o), he could enjoy the **** out of this game with just a simple change of settings. But for any others interested, it doesnt even have to be That simplistic, You can make this game whatever you want it to be. Even if your a absolute RACING newBie)

*Race Weekend is fantastic. Im A SBK newbie, but the 60 Min Practices, the Spectacular 2 Rds Of Qualifying, SuperPOLE, And the TWO RACES. OMG. Race WKND just Basically PLAY NOW functions, you can go to any track and pull a Race Weekend,. They also have a direct Play Now mode which just lets you go ahead pick your starting position and race

*Championship Mode, is what i mentioned above just in the form of a Season and Point Earning

You can skip any of these functions by the way, You may be Forced to skip them If you busted your ass and are Injured lol.

*REPLAY I havent raced yet, But after races, You can watch Either A TV BROADCAST OF HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR RACE or more selectively a replay in the eyes of a particular Rider or Event.

*The Camera Angles (last but not least) They have about 10, including 3 that put you right into the Eyes of the Rider, You will definately find one that you love.

WISHLIST

*GO Back To the SBK 09 Model. Start from there and Scrap the SBK 10 and 11 bulls****

*ALL Racing Leagues, I know they have already done it, but make sure you do bring that along. This would mean incredibly More TEAMS, and More TRACKS and COURSES

*Custom Soundtrack (every game needs to have it), though the SBK 09 Music IS Goood.

*NightTime Racing (how ******* cool would that be with THESE graphics.. ... ). Even if leagues dont do it in real-life, I want it

*Custom Team (in the vision of OWNER Mode, I want to be responsible for Bikes, Good/Poor Riders and everything else

*Don't Forget JORDAN 23RACE. Be sure to bring that league along tooo

I took time out to right my review, this game makes me want to save up for a motorbike and Im not even a real-life car or bike Fanatic. But this game makes me appreciate racing and race weekends Even more. I will be posting gameplay videos of this and even other games, Im just waiting on my HDTV money to arrive. Game is the better of all that I have tried when it comes to motorcycle sport bike racing. I ride a motorcycle and will be hitting the track for the first time in the very near future. I would say this game is a good visual simulator. Helps you somewhat in choosing lines, thinking about entry speeds, braking, drafting, etc....

Video game companies need to step it up as do the consumers in order to have more and better motorcycle racing video games to be put out on the shelves......demand is the mother of creation...LOL

I would buy and enjoy this game if I were you and demand a bigger variety and choice in this gaming area.

it's 2012 and there isn't many options out there when it comes to bike games. I bought this game because of the reviews here and I'm satisfy with it, I had my doubts if I was going to get the right game because all bike games are name similar, so if your buying this game make sure it's from VALCON Games.

at gamestop they also told me there's not a lot of options and Moto has gotten bad reviews from everyone I decided not even to try it.

there's actually only 13 tracks, unless I haven't unlocked them yet.

there's like no bridges or tunnels, it's rare that you go uphill or downhill.

the mountain scenery tracks are awsome.

the music doesn't put you to sleep like GT5

don't expect a 2012 game, it's 09. It's cool and I give it 5 stars because it's fun to play, again don't expect 2012 graphics.

This game just blew my mind! I used to play moto gp 07 but after getting moto gp 08 and realizing how bad it was I sold that game. The I downloaded the demo of moto gp 09/10 and it was the worse motorcycle game ever. The handling of the bike, physics and the way the bike feels all was wrong. Then I got the chance to try this game. This game is awesome and it is worth buying. Try simulation mode, it may be difficult at first but once you get it it will be very fun. Whatever you do, do NOT get moto gp 'cause it suuuucks. just read the review here at amazon.

Until THQ makes moto gp game, I suggest you don't buy it. The developers that make it right now don't know crap about motorcycles and they don't know what they are doing.

I looked at all the reviews for motorcycle racing games and chose this one.

What I like is the difference between using different bikes. Ducati is smooth and predicatable while Aprilia's is fast but harder to control. The engine noises and power bands are right on also. As a novice gamer who doesn't spend a lot of time playing this game will last a long time. I probably won't buy another motorcycle game to compare it to but the fact this game from 2009 is still around and selling says something about it. The only improvement would be to put this years riders and bikes into the game.

If you are a Tim Schafer fan, this game is everything you hoped it would be... except for one nasty little surprise. The single-player campaign is a measly 6 hours (and that's being generous). I'm not a multiplayer kind of person and if you share that sentiment, wait until this one drops in price. Once it's under $30 or so, it'll be worth every penny. Right now though, I felt a little cheated paying full price for half of a game.

Outside of that though, this game is all-around hardcore awesome! If you like multiplayer or don't mind the SHORT singleplayer campaign, then buy this now! Otherwise, you may want to wait a bit for a price drop.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am not a huge fan of metal music nor of Jack Black. I listened to some Ozzy when I was growing up, and I think Jack Black is OK, but those weren't the reasons I bought this game. In fact, the first time I heard about this game, I had zero interest in it. However, playing the demo, reading some interviews with Tim Schafer, and seeing some of the art behind this game completely changed my mind.

The Pros:

The art in this game is fantastic the world, the character design, the "legends" you uncover, even the user interface are all a joy to encounter. I never got tired of finding a new viewpoint and watching the camera pan across some fantastic heavy metal landmark. And the various heavy metal demons they've thought up are brilliant.

The story is top notch. The plot of the main quest, and especially the "legend" back story are really well done.

The voice work is truly excellent. It really brings the characters to life.

The humor maybe I have the mind of a 13 year old, but the game made me laugh out loud several times and kept me with a constant mental grin.

The music even though I'm not a huge fan of the genre, it really fits the game world.

The world continues once you beat the game you can keep exploring or finish side missions you haven't yet completed. And there seems to be a bridge to nowhere maybe a possible DLC single player continuation? I sure hope so.

The Cons:

The single player campaign is short. I don't think you are really enjoying it if you finish it in 6 hours like some are claiming, but I had about 3 really in-depth sittings before I finished it.

The time you spend on the ground with your axe is even shorter. I enjoyed the first couple missions the most, where the game had you dungeon crawling a bit and defeating a boss enemy at the end. Gameplay shifts quickly to the troop directed stage battle mechanic, which I wasn't really expecting.

The side missions are repetitive, and actually not all that numerous. I finished them all shortly after beating the game. Make sure you seek out the uniquely named side missions though some of them are real gems.

Other Thoughts:

You will be doing a lot of driving around. Several of the missions involve racing your car or driving around and blasting things. I actually enjoyed this part of the game, but it does seem like you are constantly in the Deuce.

The world is kind of small it's not as expansive as say Fallout 3 or Oblivion. But I think it suits the game pretty well.

You can shock just about any four legged creature and ride it I don't think I really realized this until after I beat the game. I don't think it will particularly help you much during the game, but it's kinda fun =D

After completing the game and exploring what I thought was pretty thoroughly, I've only completed about 40% Of the game according to my trophy score. I only discovered a little more than half of the bound serpents, and I find myself lacking the motivation to "complete" the scavenger hunting and the rest of the single player trophies. (How in the world can there possibly be that many things still left to find??)

I'm not a huge fan of the RTS style stage battles (I know Tim Schafer claims it is NOT an RTS, but..) I haven't yet played a multiplayer stage battle and I'm not real enthusiastic about doing so, and that is a BIG part of the replay value. You'll probably enjoy the game a lot more if you like the stage battles, but I'm not sure what type of player they are aimed at. For hardcore RTS players I'm sure it's really simplistic, and for those of us who just prefer to hack and slash, it starts to become a chore. You may enjoy them, but it didn't float my boat.

Overall this is still one of the best games I've played all year.

Brutal Legend is everything it was hyped to be, which is an extreme rarity in the world of video games. It's fun, it's clever, it's well written, it's pretty, it sounds great. What it is not, however, is long. While every element of the game ranges from enjoyable to fantastic, reaching the end in fewer than six hours was more than a little anti-climactic, and detracted fairly seriously from my overall opinion of the title.

There are numerous side quests scattered throughout the world (and the world IS open--roam all you like to kill time), and the six hour timer doesn't include those--fair is fair; I could've gotten more time out of the game. The problem there, though, is that most of the side quests are carbon copies of other side quests--to such an extent that if you take a look at them, they're using the exact same name and objectives.

I would sincerely recommend the game to anyone prepared to pay full price for a game they can finish in two sittings (or one marathon). Anyone else, though, I'm afraid ought to wait for a price reduction, or rent. It pains me to say it--I really wanted to love Brutal Legend--but it's true. I'll be trading it in (which I virtually never do), and repurchasing when it hits bargain bins.

"Oh man...I hope I haven't been slaying hot chicks this whole time!"

Damn you Tim Schafer. You've been gifted with the ability to turn the most outlandishly wacky ideas (and not to mention potentially unmarketable) into some of the most funny and original games ever created. This makes you a godsend since most games these days are neither original nor funny (even when they try their hardest I'm looking at you Halo and Grand Theft Auto clones). While I speak from a lesser-exposed point of view (I haven't yet had the pleasure of playing The Secret Of Monkey Island or Grim Fandango), I have played Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and Psychonauts and I know a special game when I see it. While Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle were fun, Psychonauts is Schafer's first grand work, and one of the best games of the sixth generation. Psychonauts was full of all kinds of wacky characters, über-creative levels, subtle dark humor, innovative gameplay mechanics, responsive controls, and mature themes under all those bright colors (the Memory Reels are quite tragic and sad, mirroring the losses and hardships we've all faced). I consider Psychonauts to be one of the finest games ever made, and I guarantee that no matter what type of gamer you are, there's something for you in Psychonauts. And y'know what? This was Schafer's first game to be released on a console. Talk about starting with a bang! But with the video game market shunning innovation and constantly reproducing the same drivel over and over (I can't wait for another futuristic first person shooter that blatantly rips off Halo or Madden: The Same Game As Last Year), would Schafer be able to continue his tradition of creating something original in a sea of unoriginality?

Thankfully yes! Enter Brütal Legend, a game about heavy metal, made by a metalhead, for metalheads. While this will most likely turn off some people, it is insanely fun for me and will be for anyone who gets the slightest enjoyment out of listening to heavy metal. Pretty much everything about the game is great, save for a few minor things. The level design, characters, controls, gameplay, and especially, the soundtrack are all top-notch.

On the surface, the game is a basic hack-n-slash with free roam that turns onto a real time strategy (RTS) game at certain points. The hack-n-slash part is fun; you have an upgradeable battle axe and guitar that serve as your weapons, as well as a customizable hot rod, dubbed "The Deuce", armed with weapons and nitro. You can also perform solos with the guitar, similar to playing the the ocarina in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They range from summoning The Deuce, playing a literally face-melting solo against enemies, and my personal favorite, calling in an air strike from a giant Zeppelin. While I don't care for RTS's, with the exception of Command & Conquer, it works here and is integrated nicely in the heavy metal universe. Instead of using gold or harvesting some other resource for funds to buy and build units, your "currency" is fans. You construct "merch booths" that spawn fans, which allows you to create new units for your army. The more merch booths you construct, the more fans you're allowed. Your home base is a stage which you must protect. You have all the usual units, but with a wonderful heavy metal spin: infantry are headbangers, ranged weapons are groupies with guns, tanks are skull covered ballistas, stealth guys are roadies carrying speakers, etc. The imagination and design of these things is amazing and heartfelt, showing Schafer and the design team really have a love for the source material. That being said, the RTS element is my least favorite part of the game. While the victory is indeed "brütal" when you win, the controls are a bit lacking in this regard. Issuing attack/defend commands can be a pain, and controlling an individual unit is nearly impossible. The cool part is that you can jump right into the battle and start dealing out death personally along side your troops.

The strategy element isn't really there, but that's OK for me. My "strategy" was to spawn as many units as possible, while upgrading my stage to produce more powerful units, and go gung-ho and destroy everything. This worked well until I realized you could spawn The Deuce and use it IN battle. This made things ridiculously fun and much easier since I upgraded it to maximum kickass-ness with missile launchers, flame jets, and one heck of a battering ram. I was shooting the bad guys, setting them on fire and running them over while simultaneously spawning more and more troops to help me kick butt.

The other missions are standard (and a tad repetitive) as far as most games go: recruit these people for your army, escort your caravan to the next area, stage battle, repeat. This isn't really a complaint because the repeated missions are always done in new and beautifully designed areas, so it still manages to stay somewhat fresh. There are side missions to earn you "fire tributes", which serve as the game's currency and let you upgrade your inventory. The game also has tons of things to unlock, collect and discover. I get an immense satisfaction from collecting stuff, so this made the game even more fun for me. Brütal Legend has upgrades, concept art, new solos, and new songs you can unlock by finding certain things. You can also free "bound serpents" to give you health and armor upgrades and find legends that tell the history of the metal land. And the game looks absolutely stunning. The entire game world is designed in the style of heavy metal album covers, conveying epicness in every sense of the word. Google Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo to get a sense of the game's style.

The soundtrack is the best part of the game. A good deal of my time was just spent driving around listening to The Deuce's radio, dubbed "The Mouth Of Metal". All different genres of metal are present here in the game's 108 songs, including the originators of heavy metal Black Sabbath, the thrash metal of Motörhead and Megadeth, the 80's hair/glam metal of Mötley Crüe, the modern power metal of DragonForce, and tons of tracks by lesser known but utterly awesome artists (Brocas Helm, Omen, Riot, etc.) that perfectly compliment the game. I think this is why I found the game to be so damn good compared to other reviewers because I truly love music, especially heavy metal, and because of this I was able to have more fun with the game than the average "radio listener". The original score by Tim Schafer's long time collaborator Peter McConnell is also superbly done.

And mark my words: Brütal Legend will suffer "Psychonauts Syndrome", receiving a decent critical reception but not becoming highly regarded until later.

So the bottom line? Brütal Legend rocks! While it's not without its flaws, it is lovingly crafted by true fans of metal and will be much more enjoyable to those that like metal. It may turn off the casual, but I say definitely check this one out.

This game is artistically and stylistically beautiful. And because it comes on bluray disc the HD sequence in the beginning looks fantastic. The game is more than decent. What is annoying is from time to time the camera's do odd things that make it difficult to do some moves.

Its apparent that from the very beginning that you will have to remember a bunch of special moves. They do a good job building this training into the narrative of the story. What really doesn't work for me is the overall game play.

Yes, it looks awesome, and is fantastic to go into the album covers of my youth. However, when it gets to the game play and doing moves with others that are supposed to assist you, it is often hard to pull off, not in a you suck and cant do it hard, but in the WHY WONT THIS WORK sort of way. I can abide some minor frustration game play, sometimes this game has more than tolerable issues with movement or fighting. This level of frustration ruins all of the fantastic artwork, open world, and even the excellent narration.

About the narration:

Jack Black is really funny with the context specific comments. He comes at this from the viewpoint of a monster roadie that has been stuck doing a boy band for some time. He is set free when he is killed by the massive stage set. Kind of weird; when did New Kids on the Block ever have a metal god as their stage set. Anyway, from this beginning Jack Black takes you on a journey that is both interesting and funny.

It is a very well made game, just needs some help with the controls. This may be patched at some point so keep tuned, seems like it is fixable. As it stands its a pain in the buttocks.

[EXTENDED CUT UPDATE; ACTUAL REVIEW FOLLOWS]

(There are no spoilers in this entire, way too long, review)

Short, short version: Does the Extended Cut "fix" the ending? Kind of, but still not quite. Despite how it lacks and how we still have the same endings, the overall conclusion has been improved. So if you are on the fence about buying the game just because of the ending, don't worry about it. Just buy the game already and download the completely free DLC.

There were many problems with the ending of Mass Effect 3. In my original review, which is below this section, I talked about 5 issues I had with it. This excluded some problems that involved spoilers. On a larger level, one problem I had with ME3's ending which I didn't talk about was it killed my interest in Mass Effect's story. It was not only disappointing, but I had absolutely no interest in exploring the game's alternative events and dialogue exchanges. With such a straight forward, forced, and limited number of endings, which pretty much didn't matter how you played, or if you played, the other games with certain decisions, what's the point in experimentation? No matter what you did with different Shepards, you're still going to get that ending. I haven't touched the game since I wrote this review over 3 months ago. In comparison, I beat Mass Effect 2 twice in one month. There was zero motivation and reason to go back to the game, which is otherwise a really good game, just because of that ending.

So now we have the Extended Cut, and it's exactly what it sounds like. It is an expansion not a revision. However, some of that expansion feels like BioWare putting band-aids on plot holes. Again, I won't say what happens in the ending, but it should be noted that the game does have plot holes. It also has some confusing moments. Not everyone will notice or think about it, but others, myself included, thought, "Wait, when did this happen?" or "Wait, why is doing this?" Well some of those issues have been fixed. One of the fixes is still confusing, but it's confusing for a different reason.

Another wound that BioWare patched included the ending cinematic. I haven't seen every possible ending in the Extended Cut, but for mine, the ending my Shepard originally received at launch, BioWare changed the cinematic. Partially because of the lack of closure, partially because of what happens, the ending cinematic basically let a lot of people (like me) run wild with worst case scenarios which destroyed the ending even further. It was just one more crippling aspect of the ending. Well, BioWare changed it, so nobody has to worry about that. And with the actual ending extended, nobody has to imagine those worst case scenarios, since we know what happens after the events of Mass Effect 3.

The last major change I noticed to already existing content involved the decision at the end of the game. When it came to making this decision, people were frustrated, because they believed it should have been something their Shepard should be able to do. Well, BioWare agreed. When I saw the option available, I took it just to do it. Right after I selected that option, I thought, "Wow...That was pretty awesome." Even if you know all of the endings to Mass Effect 3, I still wouldn't want to spoil what they added, but I will say it is smart in the context of the series and should have been included when the game originally launched.

So far I've only talked about what they altered. It took a little while for me, but I eventually got to the true extending ending. While this is going to sound really negative, it is the best way to summarize my thoughts: It's better than nothing. It is good to see the aftermath of the war and getting a glimpse at what lies ahead for this character or this alien race. Also, the extended ending talked about the impact you ultimately had in the final moments of Mass Effect 3. The reflection could have been longer, but when you factor in resources and pacing, it is a good way to add some closure to the series, while avoiding an ending (like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Return of the King) that goes on for way too long, for some people. (Again, for some people. Personally, I don't mind the never-ending ending if it is well done)

So, is everything alright in the universe? For me, not really. Don't get me wrong, it is an improvement over the original ending. To be honest, I don't know how I would have reacted if the Extended Cut was the original ending. Would I have liked it or would I be just as upset? My guess is I would still be disappointed, but not nearly as much.

I guess I'll end by looking over my five points in my original review and see if the Extended Cut fixes those issues:

#1) The game just...ended: Now it doesn't just end. So that's better.

#2) Nobody reacts to anything: It's more of a reflection now. You see some of the reactions, but it could have, and in some cases probably deserves to be more than what was offered. Eventually you get into an argument over delivery versus the amount of material. It's better, but it's still lacking for me.

#3) In the end, none of my relationships and conversation decisions mattered: The Extended Cut appears to change based on who survived all three Mass Effect games and it looks like the larger plot points in the series does play out. Now I want to see other Extended Cuts to see if huge changes are reflected. So this is a decent improvement when you consider I didn't want to touch let alone replay ME3.

#4) The ending made me feel like none of my preparations, side quests, and decisions in the game mattered: Still a problem, in my opinion. From my understanding, more options and possible endings open up when you have a higher readiness and more military resources. I still don't think this is the best way to end the series. For an individual game, it's fine. But if you played the other games, it's still disappointing.

#5) That stupid thing that appeared at the end: Yep! Still there!

Overall, it's a hit and miss for me. The hits have to do with the expansion and some of the revision BioWare did. It's the same ending(s), but BioWare did change the ending a little and for the better. The misses still deal with the problem with how the series ends. The experimentation aspect is invigorated a little by the Extended Cut, but it's not as high as it was for ME2. I still believe the ending to the Mass Effect trilogy should have been handled similarly to how Heavy Rain ended. That game had seventeen total endings, divided up between the four main characters. The variables and choices throughout the game and the climax made me wonder "What happens if I did this?" just so I could see how the last third of the game changes or in order to see all of the possible endings for a character.

That game had organic endings based on choice and gameplay. Mass Effect 3 had a limited number of directed endings, based on a few individuals choices at the last minute. It should have been done differently, but for what it's worth the Extended Cut is better and appears to actually change based on how you played the other games. I don't think BioWare should have completely revised the last 30 or so minutes of the game and rewrote an entirely, radically different ending. However, I still wish they had a more open and free approach to the ending.

[ORIGINAL, SLIGHTLY TRIMMED, REVIEW]

Mass Effect 3 is a great game, with some problems. There are graphical hiccups here and there, sometimes your squad mate's AI isn't the best, paragon and renegade interruptions take a back seat, the music isn't as noticeable and recycles about half the tracks from 2, and the cover system, with the new rolling and jumping from cover to cover mechanics, either works great or does some unintentional things at the worst possible time. In the end, these points aren't enough for me criticize Mass Effect 3 too much. The game would of course be better if these weren't issues, but it still has a lot of the elements that made ME2 a great game for me.

There isn't too much of an improvement graphics wise between 2 and 3 (on the PS3 at least), but the game runs smoothly and the occasional pre-rendered cut scenes look fantastic. Even though the AI and cover system isn't perfect, the fighting and squad mechanics are just as good as they were in ME2. In some respects, the shooting and abilities are better than what they were in 2. The missions and character interactions are great and the story has some more meat to it compared to ME2. Not that this makes 2 inferior and 3 superior. This aspect mainly compliments ME3's war torn setting.

So, while the game isn't perfect, Mass Effect 3 is exceptional, especially when it comes to cinematic gaming, writing, dialogue, character development and blah, blah, blah, blah.

And here comes the "But..."

But, there is a major problem with Mass Effect 3. It's not with the premise, the conflict, the missions or the climax. In fact, the problem I have with Mass Effect 3 is at the 99% mark. I'm talking about the very ending of the game. The last 15 minutes of game that took me about 40 hours to play through. Of course Mass Effect 3 has multiple endings, and I've only experienced two of them (after I finished the game, I immediately loaded a previous save and tried to get a different ending). I hated my ending. I hated my ending so much. I didn't hate it because it was a sad ending. I hated it because of how it was handled.

I'm not going to say exactly what happened, but I will try to outline all of the problems with it. And so I don't go on for the next three hours, I'll just make a list:

#1) The game just...ended: Putting aside whether that was a good or bad way to end the Mass Effect trilogy (side note: it was a bad way), I'm just going to focus on what happened after the end of the conflict. Almost nothing. Remember how Mass Effect 2 ended? That two or three minute cut scene after the suicide mission? That cliffhanger ending to an unfinished story had more closure than my ending to Mass Effect 3. It felt like the entire game and the last big struggle, the final showdown, had no importance. And this is partially because...

#2) Nobody reacts to anything: Of course there's no golden rule on how to write an ending to a video game, but typically it is a good idea to have an extended ending after the conflict is resolved to wrap up the characters. You can do this in a couple minutes (as with Portal 2) or an hour (as with Metal Gear Solid 4), it really depends on what type of game you have. With Mass Effect 3, there was no reaction. People didn't say anything, people didn't talk to each other, I didn't even get a montage or a slideshow or where are they now movie. So after spending about 35 hours recruiting everyone for the suicide mission in ME2, being introduced to characters from ME1, then expanding on those relationships for an additional 40 hours with ME3, and even taking the time to talk to people on the Citadel and catch up with people on board the Normandy after I finished an important mission, the resolution I got was absolutely nothing. I don't know how this planet is doing, how this alien race is adapting, if this race is even around anymore, if this side character, like a turian or quarian admiral, is still alive, and, perhaps most importantly, what my crew and friends think of what just happened. Regardless of what ending people got, whether nobody died or everything, everywhere died, there should be some reaction. Because of this, it feels as if nothing mattered. Not only that, the ending made me feel like...

#3) In the end, none of my relationships and conversation decisions mattered: This was perhaps my favorite thing about Mass Effect 2. If I had to summarize ME2 in one sentence, it would probably be something along the lines of "Saving the galaxy and having some really interesting conversations with really interesting people." By not wrapping up and providing closure to all of the characters, it feels kind of pointless. I wanted Garrus, Tali, Legion, Grunt, Mordin, Thane, Kasumi, Samara, Jack and everyone else to survive Mass Effect 2. Their presence in ME3 enhances the experience, but it is incredibly disappointing every single story, character, and subplot just ends. This strips away the consequences and the dynamic and interactive story elements which made Mass Effect famous, and I bet people care a lot more about this than combat. This leads on to the next number.

#4) The ending made me feel like none of my preparations, side quests, and decisions in the game mattered: When the credits rolled, I sat down and looked at my TV thinking about the impact I had. Doing this deal with someone, or saving this person's life, or deciding not to kill this person, or running off to this star cluster, to fetch this book, and bring it back to somebody on the Citadel didn't feel like it mattered. This goes a little farther back than the game's last 15 minutes, but it undoubtedly still applies to the game's ending. When I was doing the last set of missions, I didn't feel like everything I built up was having an impact. It was as if my readiness meter was there only for me to look at, but had no affect on the story. In comparison, with the suicide mission in ME2, people talked about the Normandy's status, characters talked to each other (like people didn't trust Miranda, or Miranda disagreed with Shepard if he picked someone she didn't like for a job), and the success of the mission depended on your decisions and getting people loyal. If you picked the wrong person to do something, somebody died. If a person wasn't loyal to you, they were likely to die. If you didn't follow someone's advice about the mission, the crew, or the ship, more people died. It felt like your actions mattered. Even if somebody simply says, "Good thing you did X" it still mattered. With 3, I didn't feel that at all when the game ended. Did doing X make the last set of missions any more or less successful? I have no idea and I shouldn't have to look at the game's programming, or read a strategy guide cover to cover, or play through the game 5 different times to realize how all of these variables work in the end. The decisions I made with the digital comic included with the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 which summarized ME1, the decisions I made in ME2, and most of my decisions I made in ME3 didn't matter. In ME2, I created a second character (Male Shep, renegade) who handled situations differently, who picked the opposite key decisions, and purposely killed certain people during the suicide mission to see how my story in ME3 will be different. So granted, I will see some of the differences when I play the game with that character. However, after playing through 3, my guess is all of those differences will likely appear in the first 90% of the game. And besides that, I shouldn't have to play the game 2 or 3 times to understand the impact I had on it the first time.

I know at this point I'm beating a dead horse, so I'm just going to move on. Unfortunately, there are still more problems with the ending, but some of the problems get into story details. So I'll just talk about one problem in extremely vague and unhelpful terms. So, finally...

#5) That stupid thing that appeared at the end: I don't want to say what that "stupid thing" actually is. Oh well. BioWare decided to include something in Mass Effect 3. Whenever this something appears, it is either unintentionally funny in how bad or stupid it is or it is painfully annoying. This something would not go away, and I started to hate this something, not only for how it was used, but how BioWare keeps forcing this something into the story. Ok, I'm going to stop here, since I can't actually talk about it unless I say what it is. So I'm just going to wrap this up.

SUMMARY/CONCLUSION:

Mass Effect 3 is an exceptional sequel to Mass Effect 2, but the game is ultimately undermined by it's horrible ending. When you include the mythos, the characters, and the dozens of plots and subplots, the ending goes from bad to devastatingly bad. Honestly, it is one of the worst endings I have encountered in a video game. (NOTE: I'm not saying ME3 has the worst ending in a video game ever. I'm just saying it has one of the worst endings I have played through and have seen with my own eyes).

It feels like BioWare abandoned what they established with the previous games to throw in an ending that seems rushed. Because I don't feel the impact I had before and after the last 15 minutes, the ending feels too simple and one size fits all. It also isn't well thought out, because there was some continuity and logistics issues. After I finished the game, I loaded a previous save, and made two different decisions to try and get a better ending (as in more satisfactory, not necessarily a happier/sadder ending). The only difference was literally a cosmetic one. And since the player doesn't see the impact of these endings, it doesn't matter.

What makes this so frustrating is that all of these game crippling problems happen right at the very end. We are talking about a span of 5-15 minutes. The other 2,385 minutes I invested in this game alone were really good or great (if you exclude that "stupid thing" I talked about in #5). If the other 99% of the game wasn't good to great, then I would have given this game 1 or 2 stars. Since I don't feel like writing off the overall experience, I feel like averaging my scores out.

I certainly did not give this game 5 stars the first time through because of how terrible the ending in the original version was executed but I have to say, after downloading and playing through it a second time with the extended cut ending, I confidently say this is the best trilogy I have ever played. I went in it the second time with extremely low expectations for what I thought they would address and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw how they fixed literally every major detailed/plot hole I, and the majority of other gamers had. The continuity of things is just there. Plus there is access to more information of certain events that wasn't there prior to the EC. I recommended this game beforehand even though I thought the way the endings panned out was deplorable the first time through but now I say, play this game with full confidence because it is one of the best ever made. Enjoy the story! That's what this game is about for me. Closure is there and if you're a diehard fan it may even bring a tear to your eyes.

This game seems to have generated a lot of controversy. I love Mass Effect, from the first game in 2007, up to the last ten or fifteen minutes of the third game. I rate it as my favorite video game series of all time (not my favorite individual game though...I still designate that title to either Breath of Fire 2 or Chrono Cross). Mass Effect completely immersed you into its world, with its compelling story line and its detailed character interactions. Of great interest was the fact that your choices in each game would affect occurrences in the subsequent releases. Why didn't I enjoy Mass Effect 3? Well, as I said before, I did enjoy it a lot until the very end. The three main pre-ending problems with the game that I had were:

(SPOILER ALERT)

1)not enough squad members: ME2 had you with 10 characters from which to choose (12 if you got DLC). Now I got...6 (7 with DLC)?! Jeez...it's the end of the universe (and the series)...one would think Shepard could recruit more personnel

2)New cover system: I applaud Bioware for trying to add new aspects to combat but it's very annoying to be running from cover to cover when I'm actually trying to move forward

3)Dialogue limited: Dialogue choices were fairly limited compared to previous games...sometimes only two options

My dislike of the ending is shared by many fans as is evidenced by current video game news. My concerns are:

1)Shaky plot ending: Synthetics will always rise up and kill their organic masters so in order to prevent that you're...gonna kill all organics? Save organics by killing organics...yeah, makes sense. I felt like I was listening to the Colonel Sanders guy in Matrix Reloaded. Ergo.

2)Choices didn't matter: All the choices that you made in the previous games and in this one didn't really matter. You got three "choices"...yet they all end up practically the same...Shepard dies, universe saved, mass relays destroyed, Normandy crashes. The only visible difference in the endings is what Shepard does (whether he controls or destroys the Reapers or chooses synthesis) and the color of the explosion. THE COLOR OF THE EXPLOSION!...THAT'S MY BIG FINAL CHOICE.

3)No proper epilogue: what happens after these events? What happens to the supporting characters you have come to cherish? Do they make it back to Earth? Do they colonize the new planet? What happens to all the races that were in Sol system...how do they get back home without the relays? What happens to Shepard's love interest?

4)Hero dies: Not many reviews on the internet say that fans are upset about the death of Shepard (only that they hate the lack of choice and the near identical endings). I am though. I am all for Bioware providing a bittersweet ending, but give us the opportunity to have a good ending too, based on our in-game choices. Quite a few games have ended with the loss of the protagonist...God of War (Kratos), Final Fantasy 10 (Tidus)...however, these games did not involve the player shaping how the hero's life progressed or have the level of social interaction that Shepard had with his supporting cast. The player develops an emotional bond with the characters (the same way our parents and grandparents feel about Young and Restless). I'm sure many players like myself think that Shepard deserved at least one ending where he could walk away and finally hang up his N7 armor and have a couple kids with Ashley or Miranda (or Tali...don't know how that's gonna work though...through another emergency induction port?)

In a nutshell, the ending spoiled Mass Effect for me. The only good thing about the end was the soundtrack which I think complemented what was happening. Some people have been saying " you wouldn't ask a writer to change a book ending or a director to change a movie ending so why ask Bioware to change their game ending?" Movies and books don't involve YOU deciding the path things take and therefore don't have the kind of effect on you that a game like Mass Effect does. I'm not going to say don't play the game, I'm just warning you that you may be upset by the ending if you are a die-hard fan of the game series. But hey, I'm no video game expert, just an average Joe who enjoys video games. I give the game a 3.5 out of 5.

If it wasn't for the ending, Mass Effect 3 would be one of my all time favorite games, and I would have given it 5 stars. Prior to reaching the end, I saw many comments and reviews stating that the ending was bad and ruined the series for them. I honestly believed it was just fans getting upset because the ending wasn't what they expected. But after seeing the endings for myself, I can personally vouch for all the complaints. It wasn't that the ending was difficult to understand, it made sense, but it was just awful.

The explanation as to why the Reapers terminate organic life every 50,000 years was absolutely ridiculous and represents circular logic at its finest. ***Spoiler!*** It was basically revealed that the Reapers eradicate organic life every 50,000 years to ensure organics don't create machines to destroy each other. That's circular reasoning. The Reapers wanted to stop organic life from killing each other with technology (machines), so the Reapers (machines) killed organic life to make sure they didn't kill each other. That's a ridiculous explanation for the Reapers. I would have preferred if the Reapers just killed organics for no reason at all. But to find out they did it to save organic life and give primitive life forms a chance to grow was incredibly idiotic. It was just a silly, dumb ending.

Its a shame that this ending completely ruined my Mass Effect experience, because this series is an amazing achievement. The rich world Bioware created is phenomenal. In my opinion the universe and mythology in Mass Effect rivals Star Wars, Star Trek and BSG. In some cases Mass Effect is better than all three. But the ending, completely undermined the extraordinary achievements of the series.

The gameplay, the characters and story for the most part is top notch. Sadly though, the ending is abysmal.

I think Bioware owes it to their fans to make a DLC to address the game's flawed ending.

ME3 was significantly inferior to the second game, in strategic dynamics and in the story, which is about as fun as season finale clumsily rehashing and tying up plot lines. Harbinger never showed up. The nostalgia was flat, and when the game was challenging, it was so flat out difficult it felt more like unproductive grinding.

First of all, this is my second PS3 console. I already own the original Sony 60GB PS3 version and for a long time, I have wanted a second one to have in my bedroom as a Blu-ray player and to play certain games I can't play with my newborn around the house (i.e. Metal Gear Solid 4).

I love this console so much. As a media center, it does almost everything. It is the only gaming console to be fully Divx certified. And obviously, it plays back Blu-ray movies. In fact, it is probably still the best Blu-ray player you can purchase today. The gaming library has improved quite a bit since the original launch of the console.

I've been looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4 for quite a long time. It was well worth the wait. I didn't think I would be a fan of the Dual Shock 3 controller as I usually could care less for rumble but it actually works well with Metal Gear Solid 4 and it weighs more than the original Sixaxis controller. For me, it is the perfect weight, better than the Sixaxis which I always though was too lite.

I would have hoped they would have fixed a couple of annoyances by now. First of all, the USB cable is too short. You won't be able to really play a game while charging your controller unless you don't mind standing right in front of the tv. They should really make the USB cable longer. Why in 2008 is Sony still shipping the PS3 with composite cables? They could have at least shipped it with component video cables. It could be my imagination but it seems as if my 80GB PS3 is slightler less noisier than the 60GB I own. I don't know if this means the 80GB uses the smaller cooler cell processor but it would be great if it did.

The 80GB hard drive can really fill up fast but fortunately, Sony was kind enough to allow a user to easily swap the hard drive out for any notebook sized SATA hard drive. I upgraded my Macbook Pro hard drive to a 320GB hard drive and transferred the old Macbook Pro hard drive to my 60GB Sony PS3. I may upgrade the hard drive on this 80GB PS3 soon as well.

Some people do not like the fact that the PS3 uses Bluetooth for it's remote contol. For me, this is better since it allows me to hide the PS3 out of sight where it doesn't clutter up space and also makes the console sound less audible while watching movies or playing games.

In summary, you can't go wrong with the Sony PS3, especially when you order from Amazon. I also own a Nintendo Wii (sold my Xbox 360 because of the RRoD). I think it really compliments the Nintendo Wii a lot and fills in where the Nintendo Wii lacks. Aside from the gripes I made earlier, I also would have preferred if Sony would have upgraded the wireless controller to N instead of G. This would allow me to stream HD content wirelessly. But it's not that big of deal because a lot of times, I just copy content to my PS3 hard drive. Oh yes, I have a large collection of PS2 games and so far, they seem to be working although I have not had a chance to try all of them.

I have never actually owned a Playstation of any kind before purchasing the MGS4 80GB bundle. I have owned an Xbox console since they first came out, but have never had the money or the interest to take the PS plunge. Now that I'm finally in Sony's boat, I can say I regret not making the move sooner. While I still don't think it's as user-friendly as the 360, this IS an amazing system. Everything looks and sounds great. I'd say this is well worth the $500. The console itself seriously puts the 360 to shame. It looks slick and futuristic while the 360 looks positively archaic next to it. As a lot of people have pointed out, it is inexcusable that Sony only includes composite cables. That really isn't a knock on this system, just a general failure by Sony. This package is well worth the price and is a great entertainment investment for anyone.

I've been backlogged with the 360 game library for a while and now that I have the entire PS3 game library to catch up on......ugh. I have so much gaming goodness ahead, I don't know what to do with myself.

Amazing bundle and a great way to get into Playstation 3. MGS4 is a must have game I just beat it yesterday and the story is simply phenomenal, and the gameplay is fantastic. I have since been playing the online component of the game Metal Gear Online. It is an excellent multiplayer game that is well developed and not just put in as an afterthought.

I just tried my library of 20 PS2 games (mostly final fantasy, gran turismo, metal gear, and god of war) and they all work fine. so backward compatibility is not an issue.

setting everything up was so easy connected to my wireless network with no problem and easily picked up my home media server so i can watch the videos on my computer hard drive on my TV. also connected via HDMI to my onkyo 605 surround receiver and it is confirmed to send 7.1 DTS-HD MA to my receiver with the newest PS3 update which took a few minutes to download.

all in all a fantastic system. if you can find this bundle somewhere GET IT. i was lucky and got in on the deal from amazon. you cannot go wrong with this bundle.

As the title suggests, I own a 360. I have read and studied graphic comparisons, reviews and more between the two systems as long as they have been out. Until this game came out (MGS4) I was not planning on getting a Ps3 anytime soon. As someone that uses every feature my 360 has, this is my views and my impression on the Ps3 system as well as the game itself.

::=:: THE PS3 SYSTEM::=::

First I want to start with the ps3. I always heard good things about the system itself but that was never enough to make me go out and get one. The game selection for the 360 always attracted me, but now, especially with the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, it's a great time to pick one up. I use my laptop's Windows Media Center with my 360 to stream a huge amount of videos I have to my TV, which I honestly never expected the ps3 to be able to do, but it does. This was an awesome surprise. Not only does it detect my laptop, but also it sees the 5 other computers on my network that are sharing content and I can access them all! Not only that, I can access them from my ps3 remotely with my PSP through any WIFI connection. It's a weird feeling to be able to stream videos from your Laptop that is wirelessly connected to your Ps3 at home, while you are miles away on a handheld. The HDMI connection displaying everything at 1080P is breathtaking and blue ray movies truly do look stunning. The game menu is actually rather simple as well, but in a good way. It lays out everything in front of you but though it does that, it doesn't clutter you with content. You don't feel overwhelmed at all with the menus.

The games on the system look stunning. I have read countless reviews for games that go cross platform and I will admit; games like Call of Duty 4, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and other cross platform titles do have better texture quality on the 360 but games that are literally designed for the Ps3 are amazing. I currently have Heavenly Sword and MGS4 (duh) and I have not seen graphics and draw distances like these on the 360. The power of this system seems limitless right now, and the games made specifically for it show it. The system also has Bluetooth built in, which lets me take my Bluetooth headset and merely hook it up to my system to use in games like Metal Gear Solid 4's online multiplayer. The backwards compatibility on the system works without a hitch, though I have had some lag with Metal Gear Solid 3. Apparently these new Ps3 systems merely emulate the Ps2 instead of how it worked with the old systems which actually had the real Ps2 emotion chip built in. This is why MGS3 lags on this system when it wouldn't lag on the original Ps3 systems.

Overall for the system this is an amazing deal. You get the 80 gig system which use to be $600 for $100 less but it also comes with a new release (and likely the best game the system has seen yet), and a duel shock 3 controller. That's nuts! I wouldn't suggest just buying the system by itself, but this deal is worth it. Now that I have the system I am finding more titles I wouldn't mind owning, so if you're a 360 fan, this system IS actually for you.

::=:: Metal Gear Solid 4 Son's of the Patriots::=::

To date, as a person that is actually heavily into game development, I have not seen nor played a game that looks better, is more polished, and more innovative as this one. This game shouldn't even be referred to as a game, as it should merely be addressed to the public as an "Experience." Anyone that grew up with Snake and his adventures will get an experience out of this game that cannot be missed and expressed in words.

What can I say about the graphics that hasn't already been said? The two words that come to mind are: ABSOLUTLY GORGEOUS. Every "cinema" isn't even a video it's merely in game play being shown through cameras set at different angles. The Environments, player models, weapons, lighting is all top notch!

Every inch of this story is great and it ties up every loose end the series has. The story is told so that every cinema is well worth watching and no matter what you think you know, there are always new events that change EVERYTHING even until the last credit rolls (and afterward so watch on past the credits). Each character is built up well and has a lot of back-story to them. Since the story is so serious, there are a ton of Easter eggs to look forward to that not only make you laugh but make you enjoy the experience even more.

As I sit here and write this, I am actually smirking because as someone who has beat the game and then has to describe the gameplay...well, there's no way to really do it without sounding like a gitty school girl. The polish and fine-tuning was immense. The stealth, camo, guns, customization, levels/environments, voice acting, story; everything involved in gameplay deserves more than a 10. You never get bored, and though the levels are a bit linier, you can beat through this game dozens of times and still have some extra to shoot for while having unique experiences each time.

The voice acting was done by some serious talent and it shows. David Hayter (Solid Snake) does a beautiful job. This was definitely a step up from the first Metal Gear Solid. You have Phil La Marr (Vamp) who does the voice of Hermes in Futurama. The list goes on. Anyhow, the music, sound FX and voices are just outstanding and really help the game flow.

I was happy when Sony lowered the price on their Playstation 3 40GB, but it took until they released this PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack for me to pull the trigger. Not only do you get the PS3 with all the cool stuff that's included with it and an 80 GB hard drive, but you also get latest in a great game franchise with Metal Gear Solid 4.

For starters, setup was pretty straight forward. If you look at the technical details and product details you will see plenty of inputs and outputs and built-in hardware features including wireless. It only took me just over an hour to get it all hooked up with my home entertainment center and home network.

Obviously, most people get the PS3 for pure gaming. Even though there are still not as many games as for the Xbox360, many of the games that are out there are awesome. For now, you don't have to worry about the cost of Xbox Live when it comes to online play. Most XBox Live people get yearly subscriptions that bring down that monthly cost, especially if you pick them up on sale. Still, I like Sony's model better, though I've heard they are thinking of going to a subscription model in the near future. I hope they don't, but we'll see.

It's also no secret you can play BluRay disks on this guy. With BluRay players like the Sony BDP-S301 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player BD/DVD/CD Playback with Bonus HDMI Cable going for just under what the PS3 will cost you, it's no wonder some people buy this as their BR player. The cost will hopefully come down eventually, but now that HD DVD is gone it probably won't come down fast enough.

Being able to use this guy as a media player and collect music and video files on it is also a nice plus. The XBox 360 does this too, and I personally like those functions on that guy better. But that's mainly because I am a heavy Windows Media Center user and like being able to integrate the 360. Still, the amount of stuff you can do with this guy is too much to count.

I can't comment on reliability first hand yet, since this bundle is pretty new to me. I have definitely heard more complaints about the 360 in terms of durability.

While the PS3 does cost a little more for the games and hardware than the 360 or Wii, it does give you more built-in hardware features out of the box. Once you buy the Xbox 360 Elite Bundle and all the extras you need to give it similar features, the cost is about the same or higher.

I'm definitely glad I got this. If you can get this bundle, it's probably a better value than the base unit.

See my recent review for the new Capcom MotoGP 10/11 game. The SBK game franchise is suffering from the same syndrome. Apparently, these game developers don't understand that new versions of their games should be better than the old versions.

The arcade portion of this new SBK X game is ludicrous and unplayable compared to previous versions. The movement of the bikes is totally wrong. Simulation mode is a bit better but not as good as the original SBK Superbike Championship game for PS3.

It is nice to have bikes, riders, and classes beyond just the Superbikes. But the graphic quality of the game is pretty disappointing compared to previous versions. The human body rider details are especially primitive and blocky. And the landscape details of the race tracks are not as well handled as previous.

The bike sounds are pretty accurate. But the music is annoying.

I hope that the Grand Turismo people will develop a new version of Tourist Trophy soon. The rest of the current motorcycle games are unimpressive.
