My son got these for Christmas and loves them. They were easy enough for him to put on his controller without help, and he really loves the way it looks. So far, the adhesive is still holding strong, even in places where he didn't get the sticker on quite perfectly.

***UPDATE***

Hello, my name is D-Day1944, and today I will be covering the Turtle Beach Sierra. With that said, let us get started.

Introduction:

Turtle Beach has a very interesting, but rough history in terms of their headsets. While sound wise being somewhat on par with the Astro Gaming brand, their versatility and longevity have been the talk of dislike, prompting many consumers to buy either Tritton or Astro products. However, Turtle Beach has done some good these past two years, offering more audio customization than either Tritton or Astro. The biggest surprise, however, is Turtle Beach became the official headset of Major League Gaming, or MLG for short. Now, armed with this new partnership, Turtle Beach decided to improve their quality of audio by making their new "Seven Series." While not out yet, the Call of Duty: Black Ops II Sierra is essentially the XP Seven, but built for Black Ops II. However, Tritton and Astro have already made their moves as well, the former having upgraded their successful headset to the 720+, and the latter upgrading their former MLG headset to the A40 2013. Other competitors, such as the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, Sennheiser PC 360, and Plantronics Commander, have also made this new chapter of the MLG Pro-Gaming headset's life difficult. Now, the question is, what innovations does the Sierra carry and has Turtle Beach finally have gotten the durability "monkey off its back?" These questions and more will be answered, so stay tuned.

Out of the Box/Looks:

We kickoff this review with what it looks like out of the box. To start off, we are greeted by a Turtle Beach Sierra Photo on the box, and on the sides and back are various descriptions of what the Sierra offers. When you open it, the headphone is wrapped in plastic and is within a cardboard molding. Within the contents, here are the components you will receive:

The Sierra Headset

A 2.5mm Male to 2.5mm Male cable for Xbox Live chat.

A detachable microphone.

A breakaway cable for the Sierra Headset.

A Control Unit.

A Control Interface.

A Turtle Beach Sticker.

A TOSlink cable.

A Instruction Manual.

A Congratulations paper upon purchasing the Sierra and other details.

These pieces are all for what need to hookup to either the Xbox 360, PS3, or PC.

For the looks of the headset, there is the Black Ops II color scheme on this headphone. When you remove the magnetic speaker plates from the sides of the headphone, you are greeted with a Black Ops II emblem. The Control Unit looks like a futuristic tool that would been worn on a soldier's wrist with its various numbers and symbols. On the very tip of the microphone, there is a Call of Duty engraving on the metal.

Overall though, I would have to say I am a bit disappointed with everything that turned out. For $280 dollars, the packaging is a bit of a letdown, considering this is supposed to be of what is to come of the XP Seven, Turtle Beach's MLG official headset. Aside from that though, everything else was fine, but I do stand by what I said.

Now, with that subject done, let us discuss the build quality.

Build Quality:

For the build quality, Turtle Beach may have finally solved its once plagued problem. The headphone is very solid and flexible, so it will not get broken easily. The microphone itself is a goose neck, which means you can bend it to any position you want. The headphone cables are braided, which alleviates you from tangling. The control unit's cords along with the others also were good. My only complaint is that the TOSlink Cable is flimsy and thin.

Overall though, the build quality was very good. No problems did occur during my two weeks of testing. The optical cable is not all that great, but it does do the job. Anyway though, back to the review. Our next topic, features.

Features:

The Sierra's features are quite massive audio wise, and it begins with the Control Unit itself. There are various options you have on this control unit, such as changing and customizing your surround sound angles, turning Dolby Digital on or off, to name a few. The most interesting, however, is the fact that you can change and customize the presets on the control unit. There are nine in total(8 if you do not account for the Main setting.) There is also a MP3 input should you have a ipod or MP3 player. You can also use a system called PGM to change your voice. None of this would matter if the signal to noise ratio was not good. Thankfully, in the Sierra's case, it was great, as there was little to no static or distortion.

In addition, there are some unique qualities that further empower focus on audio, such as Turtle Beach's trademark Sonic Lens, Ear Guard, Sonic Silencers and Dynamic Chat Boost. Last, but not least, you can customize your presets via a sound editor, in which you can tweak the headsets towards your liking, as well as the surround sound angles and voice. The control interface coordinates with the control unit for delivering such commands. Not only that, you could hook up speakers that use a 3.5mm male connection. In addition, the Control unit's main controls themselves are captive touch, meaning the graze of your finger will change any input command. Lastly, there is a 3.5mm output in middle of the Control unit, meaning any 3.5mm headphone or PC Gaming Headset (via adapter) will work. As for the headphone, due to the 3.5mm male input, you can you this with any device that supports this connectivity (or 1/4 adapter if you have it).

Overall, this is hands down the Sierra's greatest asset. The near limitless audio customization of the control unit and its versatility of both the unit and the headphone make the Sierra nearly unchallenged, as the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, Astro A40, Tritton 720+, Plantronics Commander, and Sennheiser PC 360 do not have anything that even comes close. My only major complaint of the control unit is that you have to independently control your chat volume, as it is not integrated with the master knob, which is kind of odd considering that the microphone logo is located on it and you press down on the master knob to mute your voice. Not only that, the control unit was supposed to surpass the Astro Mixamp in the regard of game/voice chat balancing, but to do that, you might need to buy the TM1 tournament mixer from Turtle Beach, which costs $230 dollars. Apart from that though, the potential the Sierra has as a whole is above and beyond any of its current competitors.

Now, here comes our next part, Comfort.

Comfort:

The Sierra uses a breathable faux leather padding for increased isolation. The Sierra itself was comfortable for a good 7 hours, which is great. The ear cups also swivel for breaks, but since the padding was surprisingly breathable, I really did not need to rest it much. There is also memory foam padding, which was great for contouring around my ears. Making a headset light never hurts, which adds to the Sierra's already good loquacious feel. Does it do better than velour? No, but the Sierra did much better than most other headsets that have tried to incorporate this material. Adding memory foam does not hurt either, which adds more credit to the Sierra's good usage of faux leather.

Now, the part of the review that you have been waiting for, the audio performance. But before we begin, I must first explain of the way Dolby Digital is achieved.

The Science behind the glorious sound:

In order to recreate Dolby 5.1, Dolby Digital is mixed with Dolby Headphone, which then takes an actual 5.1 speaker setup and then uses various DSP's to simulate 5.1 Channels of audio going through the headset. However, with the Sierra, Dolby Headphone is not incorporated. Instead, you can customize the DSP's towards anything imaginable within the parameters of the headphone. The only limitation is your imagination.

*** SIDE NOTE***

Although not stated, some companies might fool you with the whole "Full Dolby 7.1!" theory. However, this is only marketing, as the optical cable will only output 5.1 on consoles.

Now, with that done, it is time for the audio performance.

Audio Performance:

For the quality of the audio, the Sierra's sounded very good. The low end was thick, the mids were strong, and the highs were mostly clear. I will say this is on par with the A40 2013 Edition, but if you still want arguably the best, the MMX 300 still holds down the throne, but getting this and the 300's will set you back to almost $680 dollars. Moving swiftly along, in stereo, the Sierra's were very fun. Listening to Breaknoise's dub hit "Chicken Zinger," the Sierra handled the heavily expanded loops and intensive bass drops. Other songs, such as "We are the Reasons" by We came as Romans, the Sierra's handled the thematically screeching highs and distorted mids very well, and the low end came clear, although at few times the Sierra did blend too much in the overall audio, but it did not ruin the experience, so I did not worry.

When hooked up to the control unit, my sound has really gotten a boost to its already impressive cues. There are nine audio presets in total, and I will explain how each one performed.

First up, the main setting

Main:

For the main setting, the Sierra performed quite well. Using this setting did make the overall experience more expansive and realistic. In games like Black Ops II and Forza Horizon, the Sierra's did pretty well. Movies such as Avatar, Safe, and Grand Torino had a more spacious feeling to them. The low end was quite good, the mids were crunchy, and the high end turned out well. There really is not much to say on this setting since this was my favorite setting, tied only with the superhuman hearing setting.

With this setting out of the way, next comes the Flat setting.

Flat:

This is essentially Dolby Pro Logic IIx, which makes stereo sound more expansive. While movies did do well and games that really do not render themselves of precise audio performed good, competitive games such as Halo 4 can be hit or miss, since this setting will let you hear either your right or left. However, this was my preferred setting for music since the sound stage was spacious, and music such as Cursh 40's "I am all of me" was more live and expansive.

Now, onto the next setting, Bass Boost.

Bass Boost:

For this setting, I was very concerned to the amount of high and mid frequencies are lowered to increase the low end, but to my surprise the Sierra easily took on this setting well. The bass was more thick but did not drown out the mids and highs too much. Games such as Forza and Midnight Club gave a huge sense of immersion due to the roar of the engine. Others such as Fall of Cybertron had huge explosions and great rumble. Would I recommend it for music and movies? For movies, that is a yes, but for music, make sure to choose dubstep or 8-bit/genesis remakes, as while the Sierra did do well in the mids and highs, genres such as Metal, Alternative, Punk and Classical did not go out to well.

Moving swiftly along, it is time to go onto the next setting, Treble Boost.

Treble Boost:

While I was worried about the Bass Boost setting, the Treble Boost setting I did not worry about at all. As stated above, the Sierra does very well in handling low range frequencies, the mids are good, and the highs are mostly clear, but with the Treble Boost engaged, the high end was cystal clear and the low end to mid range frequencies did not suffer. Games such as Black Ops II turned out great with the Sierra, as gunshots were acute, footsteps were easier to listen, and the music turned out well. Other games such as Madden 12 had a more stadium feel to it since much of the games audio is primarily focused on the high end.

With this segment done, it is time for the Treble Boost + Bass Boost setting.

Treble Boost + Bass Boost:

As this setting implies, the low and high end are increased for better audio clarity. While this setting did help on the Sierra, the fact is that the mid range is cut down a bit. I am not going to say it was drowned out, because it was not, but dialogue was a bit more difficult to hear in games such as Mass Effect and Rachet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Movies did handle this surprisingly well, but still, dialogue was a bit harder to hear or it just was not apparent in certain scenes of movies like Transformers: Dark of the Moon or Toy Story 3. For music, I would say no, as the vocals do blend a bit too much in the overall audio mix.

Now, it is time for the next setting which is the speech amplifier setting.

Speech Amplifier:

For this setting, the mid range does get raised to have a higher input on dialogue. For me, this is really the oddball of the nine presets. While for movies this setting is great, music and gaming is a hit or miss. Mass Effect 3 did very well with this setting, but others such as Halo did not pan out so well. While the vocals on certain songs, such as "Reach for the Sky" by Social Distortion came out beautifully, other songs such as "We are the Reasons" by We Came as Romans, the sound can be blended in a bit too much or just sometimes overpowering. For the Sierra itself, it performed well upon usage, but in practice the importance on the mid range does account for a microcosm of excellent idea's but mediocre execution.

With this done, it is time for the next setting, balanced.

Balanced Setting:

This setting equalizes all three sound stages to make each sound more balanced. Initially, I was excited to see this. In practice, it preformed very well, but not as well as I hoped. Games like Black Ops II made balanced performed adequate, which is not bad, but not good either. Other games such as Prototype and Uncharted, this setting and the Sierra performed magnificently well, as these games may have a bigger focus on audio related to set piece moments, but are more inclined to the overall experience. Music usage is second only to the treble boost setting, as each sound stage performed great in many genre's of music. Listen to "The Imperial March" from the Star Wars' series, you have a blast. As for movies, balanced performed good as well. Since each of the audio spectrum's are balanced, with the Sierra, movies did become more lively as if I was on the set itself.

Clint Eastwood would be proud of this next setting, Action Enhancer.

Action Enhancer:

This setting focuses on the low end and high end, but does give the mid range breathing room. Essentially, specific audio cues are amplified, such as explosives, gunshots, car engines, etc. For movies, this was my preferred setting, as every climatic moment received that boost to make that scene more memorable, such as in Flags of our Fathers, Titanic, Transporter, and Star Wars. For music, avoid this at all costs. While the Sierra alone is phenomenal, this setting for music is abysmal. Even songs like Excision's "Existence" did not do well at all with this setting, as the loops usually got heavily distorted. For gaming, I greatly recommend only using this for single player experiences, such as Uncharted 2 or Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. For multiplayer experiences, again, do not use this setting, as this setting does not help you accurately gauge the distance and/or direction of your enemies at all.

Now, it is time for our final setting, Superhuman Hearing.

Superhuman Hearing:

This setting encompasses highly on distinctive low frequencies, such as footsteps in gaming. On paper and in practice, the Superhuman Hearing setting did very well. Games such as Halo 4 did a great job of audio separation and and gauging distances became more easier. Other games did not do so well, since this setting is primarily focused on intricate, precise audio cues. As for movies and music, I would not recommend it since the main focus is primarily on specific audio cues, not various audio mixes.

Well, everyone, there you have it. Each setting helps the Sierra in one specific way for a specific type of task that you would want to achieve in a headphone. While the Sierra is great overall, other headsets, such as the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, Plantronics Commander, and the Sennheiser PC 360, did do better when hooked up to the control unit via a PC adapter, but those headphones will drive your price up even higher, since the control unit itself is not for sale as a standalone at the moment. As for its most bitter rival in the Astro A40's, to my ears, the Sierra's edge ahead due to the various options it has and the overall spacial feeling it presented

As for the microphone itself, this may be one of the best microphones I have ever used, tied only with the Commander and MMX 300. It does have a windscreen, and easily blocks out ambient noise. My teammates said they could always hear me crystal clear with no problems.

Moving on with the surround sound angles, all of them performed well, but there really was not a major reason to use them. Sure, in games like Halo, Killzone, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, and Black Ops II, this feature is astounding, but, that is really much it. Unfortunately I also cannot say which is the best to use out of the angles, since much of them are similar. However, I will make a list on which preset was good for which area.

The ratings are as follows:

Competitive Gaming: Balanced, Main, and Superhuman Hearing.

Music: Treble Boost, Balanced, Main, Flat, Bass Boost(Only for dubstep/8-bit remixes)

Movies: Action Enhancer, Balanced, Main, and Speech Amplifier.

Casual Gaming: Bass Boost, Treble Boost, Bass Boost + Treble Boost, Balanced, Main, Action Enhancer, Flat.

There you have it guys, my recommendations should you buy the Sierra and use the presets. Now, with this segment done, here is my verdict.

Yoda: It is time, young one...

Verdict:

The Sierra did not revolutionize the gaming headset industry quite like the A40 did, and its sound quality is slightly less superior than older gaming headsets. However, what the Sierra does is build upon a battle tested method and incorporates new ingenious solutions to make it a very notable standout. While there are some inconveniences here and there, few can trade blows with it in terms of its near infinitesimal audio customization. Also, since durability is no longer a problem, this adds to the Sierra's already impressive sheet. However, $279.99 is a lot to ask for of a gaming headphone, but rest assured. The Sierra can handle almost any type of audio you need, and it is worth the money if you are willing to pay the Benjamen's for it.

Overall, I give the Sierra a 4/5 Stars Rating.

***UPDATE***

Hello, this is D-Day1944 here with an update. I did an couple of accidental mishaps in this review. While I was right about the presets, those were for speaker, not the headset. The correct ones were as follows:

Speech Amplifier should be 3D Stereo Expander.

Balanced should be Action Enhancer.

Action Enhancer should be Footstep Foucs.

For this, I will correct my thoughts on those two aforementioned presets, 3D and Footstep. First up, the 3D.

3D Stereo Expander:

This widens the Stereo effect for a more natural 3D feel. However, on paper and in practice, this setting is bad. This makes it so that you have to rely on your eyes rather than your ears, as the bass levels are way too overpowered. Avoid this setting on music and movies, period! I repeat, avoid this at all costs! Now, after that we go into footstep foucs.

Footstep Foucs:

This setting turns down the low end to give the mid and high range more breathing room. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Halo 4, and other shooting games will benefit from this, as footsteps became easier to detect, hence the name. However, moives and music depend solemnly on the type of headphone you are using. I personally would recommend a bass heavy headphone, since the low is cut by a staggering 75%. Using said headphone should cusion the bass reduction. Otherwise, if you are not interested, do not bother with this setting on either movies or music.

I did re-review the Action Enhancer setting since it was already incorperated into the review. Anyway, time for the final verdict update.

***UPDATE OF FINAL VERDICT (Thoughts Included)***

To wrap up this update of my final verdict, I have offically decided to give these a 3 instead of a 4. Why, some of you might ask? I did say back then that Turtle Beach had solved the longevity problem, so why the sudden change? Sadly, again I am late, as this is my 2nd and final pair of these. The one I reviewed went defective after its 3rd week of ownership, and the 2nd one I received was defective out of the box. Oddly enough, both had the left earcup defective, which is strange in this regard. For my next review, I am actually kinda of contemplating on whether or not I should pick up the XP Sevens or the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's. For the XP Seven's, I am very afraid to obtain these, as my experiences could haunt me as they did with the Sierra's, but so far, from other people are saying, that is not the case. Still, I will find that answer out myself. As for the Custom One Pro's, they are getting good reviews, but again, my ears will decide whether or not that is the case.

Again, this is D-Day1944. Thank you for reading my update. Hmmm..., I think I forgot something....., oh yeah!

**Bum-ba-da-dam!!!***

Sorry, but for those of you who read my Sharkoon S7 review, I stated that I would be doing the Skullcandy PLYR 2 review. Sadly, this will not be the case, as time has officially run out, and I need to move on with my gaming headphone reviews. One good thing, though, I will be doing regular headphone reviews soon. I cannot say as to when, but be on the lookout of my next update after my final desicion between the XP Seven's and the Custom One Pro's. The update will be added to this review, so do not worry. Anyway...back to what I was saying. Thank you all for reading, and join me in my next update. There will be big news, and it may interest you.

Build: Pretty decent build, I like how long the chords are from the headset to the xbox. The fact that it's not wireless means you're not going to get interference from your router. It has a sturdy build and the ear cups do a good job of blocking out sound. I had a mild issue with the mic, but the RMA service by TB was fast and I was up and running again in less then a week.

Comfort: The cups are tight at first but loosen with use. After they loosen up, they feel natural to wear. Make sure you take a break from that game once in a while anyways :p

Electronics: The effects are awesome to play with, but even cooler to use to mess with yours friends! I had come from Astro A40s and they were pretty great. So I was skeptical of a headset that said it could separate the footsteps from the rest of the game. Well, the Sierra headset did that perfectly. I'm impressed. Some effects aren't all that great, but for the most part they're pretty awesome and useful.

I don't know if I missed anything, but it's a pretty great headset. The biggest difference between the A-40 and the Sierra headsets was the company behind them. Astro took over a month to "fix" issues I had with their headset, if they even responded (a whole different story altogether, but for $250+ you need to treat your customer better). Turtle Beach fixed everything right away and I couldn't be happier.

Having been a longtime user of the X11s, I decided it was finally time to treat myself to a higher-quality headset. Because my X11s had been so good for so long, of course I wanted to stick with Turtle Beach, and the Sierras seemed the best option I don't like wireless headsets, but I want all the fancy bells and whistles that you seem to only be able to get with wireless products these days.

First impression upon putting them on was that the external sound dampening was fantastic I had them on and even without playing any game, couldn't hear a vacuum being run right outside my closed bedroom door. However, the headset is waaaay too tight on the head and doesn't seem to loosen up at all after an hour or two, I was fighting headaches.

The sound quality is mediocre the max levels are set way too low. Even with the volume at full, there were parts of the game I could barely hear. Trying out different presets gave me everything from a whisper of sound to blown-out distortion. It became less finding what best enhanced the game sound (MW3 and Black Ops, primarily) and instead became a chore in finding a preset that annoyed me the least.

When it came to voice chat, everything was awful. Friends sounded like robots, chat was either consistently too low or too high no matter where I had my volume set, and even with the mic right against my mouth, friends said I sounded like I was on a bad wireless connection words kept getting dropped, even whole sentences if I didn't practically shout.

On top of all that, I wanted to hold out until the preset community was opened up, thinking that with the mixing software, I'd be able to correct all these defects until I had the amazing sound I was going for. That was when, upon returning home from the midnight release of Black Ops II, I discovered that a wire had broken in my headset that rendered my left earcup completely dead unless I held my head at a certain, very uncomfortable angle. Less than two weeks after the purchase of the headset, I might add and I treat my headsets like GOLD.

That was the last straw, and after a brief and very unhelpful exchange with TB's tech support, I elected to return my headset and went back to my X11s, where I get good game and chat sound without all the hassle. Next headset will probably be Astros.

After 4 weeks the right side of the headset quit working. The problem must have been in the wiring because when my son shook the wire it intermittently cam back.

First this is ONLY available in Japan and Asian regions respectively. Second for those that live outside the region it may also be noted that X is O, which means you use O to confirm and X to cancel. Third DVD playback is restricted to the region from where the console is brought from, which means if you buy a Japanese model you have to use R2 DVD's for playback or R3 DVD's if you buy anywhere outside of Japan. Blu-ray however is the same as in the U.S. since its region A. (PAL users should opt for a HK model as PAL is used in the HK region.) Last but not least power usage and voltage: If you live in the U.S. buy the Japanese model since Japan use 100-110v, which will work with any American outlet. For European and Australian users, use should consider buying the Hong Kong or Korean version of the console since they are rated with 220-240v rating.

while I think this is one of the best FPS/RPG hybrids ever made,

this is a crime that they couldn't put the DLC ON THE DISC and instead included a lousy voucher for all four packs.

I bought this to get everything on the disc like most GOTY editions (I already owned the regular ed.) so I felt a bit jipped however it

comes with a great full map of pandora and that's nice. if you have the regular edition no need for this BUT

if you haven't bought Borderlands yet this is THE BEST DEAL!

and a heck of a game with 4 player online co-op, two player split screen

and single player as well as playthrough the full game with or without friends once and then access PLAYTHROUGH TWO WITH HARDER ENEMIES AND VASTLY SUPERIOR LOOT!

a must buy game without doubt. I'm just miffed they were too lazy to

do as dragon age or the like (fallout 3 anyone?) and put the DLC ON THE DISC ugh. oh well it's still some of the most fun to be had.

and as of this writing it's EASY still to this day to find online games and players. a FIVE STAR TITLE ALL THE WAY

I took one star off the GOTY ed. due to no DLC ON DISC...

it's not that tough to do. :(

EDIT: as of this edit 2/4/11 gamestop is confirmed carrying

the new version of the disc with the DLC ON THE DISC NOW!! and even Gearbox

confirmed this on their forums. I also bought another copy (yeah I love it that much!) and lo and behold you pop the disc in and highlight it and on the XMB you'll see another disc with the DLC!!! now a worthy Purchase!

still, they should have done this from the very beginning but to their credit, they could have ignored the issue entirely OR create an expansion disc such as the pc and xbox 360 versions are getting.

I'm treating this as a supplemental game description; others have adequately reviewed the gameplay elsewhere. For those wanting a one-sentence summary: the DLC does appear on newer discs, but as of Jan 2011 it is difficult to tell if you're getting a "new" DLC-on-disc version or the older version with just a voucher. (Maybe the content is on all GOTY editions and an update will unlock it one day?)

I was torn before ordering from Amazon, but pulled the trigger on a buy 2, get 1 free sale. I'm new to the ps3 as of this Christmas and am having fun buying up older, established games for cheap. Borderlands fits perfectly into this category, so if you're on the fence and want a quick push either way: BUY IT if this type of game is your thing.

The DLC is now on the disc. I was VERY skeptical that it would be, as the (almost) unanimous consensus online said otherwise. Only a few recent posters claimed it was on there, and I dismissed them as trolls or uninformed. I bought anyway. The front cover of my game says very clearly at the bottom "Voucher for All 4 Add-On Packs." On the back, in a yellow band? "Add-on game content requires a connection to Playstation Network and 4.41 GB of storage space to redeem SINGLE-USE VOUCHER."

I was bummed. I held out opening up the disc, on the chance that maybe a newer version had come out, and Amazon had sent me an older one. If some (newer) copies did have the DLC, I wanted that one! But I couldn't find anything online about a new cover, omitted text, or anything else pertaining to the voucher.

I opened up the game and popped it in and there it is. Below the Borderlands game icon in the XMB (Playstation menu, NOT the game menu.. where I first looked). There's a little disc icon that turns into an orange, one-wheeled robot labeled "BONUS CONTENT."

Sure enough, all 4 add-on packs appear here. The smallest is about 550MB, the largest is 1.6GB. No code needed... but a voucher code is still included. Mine was behind the map, before the instruction manual. I have not used it, but I did install the expansions to test they install with no code and appear in-game (the menu tells you they're available and you need to go to a fast travel station to get to them).

As of this writing, the "most helpful" one-star reviews bash the decision to not include the 4 expansion packs on disc. I can understand this, considering other games (Fallout 3 GOTY, which I purchased along with Borderlands GOTY) DID put the content on there. It made the game feel disposable once your voucher was used up, your resale is the same as the regular BL game. I am thankful for all those who complained. I can't help but think someone somewhere heard your logic and agreed.

Here's the problem as of now, there's no way to tell what version you're getting. I bought mine from Amazon so I can confirm that at least one batch of theirs has it but that's not to say everyone will get a "new" version. Same in-store. There was nothing physically on the outside that told me I was getting bonus content on disc. So until all of the old stock is purged, there are going to be some disappointed consumers. Even after that, there's sure to be fraudulent after-market sales of used GOTY editions.

Good luck in getting the version you want, and enjoy the game I'm pretty stoked about the hours in Pandora front of me.

-------------

Until it becomes established knowledge that there are in fact "on-disc" versions, check Gearbox & 2K's forums for official word. As of Jan 2011, I still feel things are speculative among the online community of BL players, even though I can personally confirm vouchers are not needed for the newest printings. This is what you get when game developers waffle, but I thank the powers that be for getting it right; sorry to those who "suffered" for the rest of our benefit. ;)

Buy Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition Now

The game itself is incredible, one little qualm though. I bought the GOTY edition because I wanted it all in one swoop, there was an issue. You need a coupon code that comes with the game. I got the coupon code, unfortunately it is only one time use. I guess I was second... This is only for the PS3 Borderlands GOTY edition. So, if you want to buy the GOTY edition; get it new.

Amazon needs to change the description of this product, or else the sellers need to be sure that they are selling the On-disc version. Like the two previous reviewers, the copy I purchased on 3/20/13 is the Voucher version. It's ridiculous, because the game description explicitly states TWICE that the Add-ons are on the disc, and the image clearly states it's the On-disc version. Absolutely the epitome of FALSE ADVERTISING.

Thanks to information on this page I now know that the UPC code I should be looking for is 7-10425-37983-3, so I at least did not open the game and will be returning it for a full refund.

Original (Vocher) UPC: 7-10425-37881-2

New (On-disc) UPC: 7-10425-37983-3

Amazon, considering all these negative reviews this excellent game has gotten, can't you folks get your act together?

EDIT 3/29/13: Sorry, should have edited this post earlier. This is also in response to the first responder to my post. After returning the game, I actively sought out vendors who were selling this to find out whether they were selling the voucher version or the on-disc version. The key is providing them with the UPC code -that makes it very easy for them to check. I got mine successfully from NYC Electronics. Most others didn't have the on-disc. The one I purchased from Shark Distributors was the voucher version.

Want Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition Discount?

I bought "Borderlands 2" a couple of months ago because of a friends recommendation. I like it enough that I wanted the "Borderlands: Game of the Year" Edition. I saw the negative comments about some people receiving the old version that requires the add-ons be downloaded with a voucher something I no longer do because of bugs and glitches I have experienced with DLC, in the past.

None-the-less, I ordered the game hoping to get lucky, and was thoroughly dissappointed when I received the voucher edition from "BIG GAME VENDOR". I double checked the listing and the package shown is clearly the new version because it does not mention a voucher on the front cover (the older version I received says "Voucher for All 4 Add-on Packs" on the front cover, while the new version says "Complete Collection: ...All 4 Add-on packs). Furthermore, the "Product Features" section exactly states "Includes all 4 add-on packs released to date (on disc)". I also noticed the manufacturers production ID number was covered by a seller sticker, which blocked it from view (I carefully peeled it up to confirm this is an old version).

I immediately returned the disc and spoke with customer service. I suggested, at the very least, that Amazon take down their advertisement, since it is misleading. I also recommended that Amazon dissolve its partnership with "BIG GAME VENDOR" to avoid the problem of "BIG GAME VENDOR" misleading buyers.

Since the old packaging included an obvious reference to the voucher edition, and many other people reported this same issue, I must conclude that "BIG GAME VENDOR" knew about the problem, but was more interested in moving the out dated product, than in taking care of their customers. It would be easy for them to ID the voucher version in their stock, and segregate it from the advertised product why didn't they?

I'm a 41 year old step-dad that doesn't play video games much. When I do play, it's typically a first person shooter game and the last gaming title that I played all the way through was "Half-Life." Feel free to start the "old guy" cracks/comments now. I bought the PS3 for two reasons: 1. Gaming entertainment for my step-son (15 yrs old) and for the huge group of nephews and neices that visit our home periodically. 2. My first Blu-ray player.

I bought "LittleBigPlanet recently to add to the home gaming collection and last night played for the first time with my step-son. After 2+ hours of excellent gaming and good times...we both came away with huge smiles on our faces. It's been quite awhile since I laughed so much doing an activity and sharing the moment with my step-son was very cool. So, what's entertaining about this game that looks on the surface to be for small children?

1. Funny look, funny sounds, oh yeah...a crapload of FUN! This game has the most unique, interesting look to it that I've ever seen for a game. Seeing what would be next really kept us guessing. Also, we were big fans of the "sounds of death," whenever our characters would perish. Whether by smoldering fire, cackling electricity, falling onto spikes, or getting squashed...my step-son and I laughed alot when one of us died in the gaming environment. The costume options are worthy of an entire paragraph by themselves, but I don't want to bore you.

2. Challenging games. I thought this game would be easy....WRONG. Even though the controls are easy to master (really easy!), the gaming situations cost us many lives to play and finally master.

3. Creativity of creating own gaming scenarios. I was blown away by what other players across the globe were creating and posting for folks to come and play. My step-son and I played a game created by someone from Japan, then another from someone that lived in London. Loved the experience and game play.

4. Allowing multiple players to play at the same time, on the same game board. Instead of the boring, play and then sit out, rotate, rotate rotate (Ugh)....this game allows 1-4 players to play the same game board at the same time. This makes for crazy, unorganized, hilarious game play. I blamed my step-son soooooo many times for killing me and vice versa. Whenever we completed a section successfully, we would high five each other and have huge grins of accomplishment on our faces. More games should allow for this kind of game play.

In summary...this game was a HUGE homerun, in regards to entertainment impact and fun times for 2 or more people. I strongly recommend this game to any family looking for a game that is family friendly, or for gamers that are just looking for something new, hilarious, and creative. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

To say that there has been some hype surrounding this title would be a bit of an understatement. I'm here to tell you that they Totally Pulled It Off. I was very nervous, concerned that the game could not possibly be as fun as it looked on the movies. Well, I needn't have worried. Here is my gleefully happy review:

The sheer sense of whimsy, of pure-no holds barred-cackle out loud-jump up and run around-find your old light saber and yell like you've just seen Star Wars for the first time (yea, really, like that!)-delight that permeates this game is everywhere. Everywhere are little touches that make this seem so new, even though the basic mechanics are those of a very strong platformer. By now, most people have already seen Sack Boy. Well, he's even cuter when you are playing with him. All the stickers, outfits, and silly movements that he has make him even more endearing as you play him.

Graphics are a real departure from what you are used to seeing, but in a very very good way. Textures are sharp and realistic, which is important in a game that draws on mundane objects to make a completely fantastic new world. Movement is rich, physics are very well designed. When you play this game, it just feels right.

The music is a blast--remember the first time you listened to Katamari Damacy and were just enchanted with the invention and fun of the music? Well, although there is not any J-pop to be found here, that same hum along and enjoy feeling is everywhere.

Story is basic, but fun. I've not yet completed the game, so I can't remark on how long it is. I'll update this review when I've finished.

The extra levels available online already range from the merely ok to the absolutely outstanding. Clearly, there are some folks who have Way Too Much Time On Their Hands. The level creation software is easy to understand, although very deep. You're going to have to work pretty hard to make levels as good as the game designers have made--but the amazing thing is that you really can do so if you want! This flexibility is perhaps the biggest strength of LBP, and is what will keep this game going for long after you have explored the levels that come with it.

Ultimately, this is a platformer--a very very good platformer. Do not think that you are going to get a game that re-invents gaming here. However, if you know that and are excited any way, you are going to get the most original, most charming, most delightful platformer to come your way in a long time, and you are going to get virtually inexhaustable user developed content, much of which will likely be great.

Buy LittleBigPlanet Now

Much like Mario 64 redifined platforming by bringing Mario into the third dimension, Little Big Planet has reinvented what a platformer should do by giving players the ability to create their own levels and share them worldwide. Super Mario Galaxy really pushed the third dimension aspect, and Ratchet & Clank is a graphic powerhouse. LBP does what no platformer has done this generation it lets the players take over for the designers and offers content long after the story mode is completed.

The story mode is georgeous. The music and art design are incredible. The puzzles are challenging, but far from impossible. You MUST have a freind to complete everything, and that can be trying when you are dealing with people online. The controls are floaty, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of handling sackboy.

The level creator is where LBP surpasses console platformers. There are already player created stages online that are as good as some of the designer's stages (albeit shorter). Although people online can be difficult to deal with, the creativity on display is amazing. Everything that you see in the desiner created levels can be done. And if you have the Eye Toy, there are no limits to the images that you can create and use in your own levels.

PC fans have been modding games and creating their own original content for years and for the first time, a console game has given players the tools to do the same thing with such ease. A must own for platforming fans and a must play for everyone else.

Before I start let me give a frame of reference concerning the reviewer: I'm a 26 year old male, and I speak on behalf of what I've thought and heard from my peers (both female and male).

Whether it has been explicitly said or not, LittleBigPlanet (LBP) is a creative masterpiece that revolutionizes what games can be while being appropriate for all ages.

First, the game does not derive its fun factor from massacring other humans, aliens, or god knows whats. In a time where it seems like most game developers have the deluded idea that a game must involve violence to be good (no thanks to Microsoft's firm 'killing is the best fun' policy), LBP stands out as one of a kind. How strange that we humans would want games to be 'realistic' when reality is realistic enough! Surely an imaginary world is better than copying our own imperfectly and with its imperfections.

Second, LBP's gameplay is excellent both in its single-player and multi-player modes. The multi-player modes are admittedly more fun, and they're accessible either online or on a single PS3. The game's replay value is high, both because the disc levels are full of things to collect, and because there are many creative user-designed levels online. The platforming is reminiscent of older game generations like the SNES and Genesis/Megadrive, while simultaneously being new both artistically and as far as the character interaction mechanics are involved.

Third, LBP delivers a good platforming experience, but where it really amazes is in the level of customization it allows. Your sackperson (the character) can be dressed up, can be made to wear different expressions, can have all its joints/limbs move (e.g. you can make him/her dance), can have stickers placed on itself and its environment, and finally can even have its own world created from the ground up (i.e. you can make your objects which eventually can go into your own level). I think this customization is really what makes LBP stand apart from all other games. An adult can enjoy and be truly challenged by this, it really does push the limits of creativity. Even more importantly, if one has children, I cannot stress how good LBP can be for a child's mind. It is creative, light-hearted, and accessible (with parental help), offering an experience that is on par with constructing a world out of Lego pieces. I really don't think any game offers that. The Wii, for all the hype its gotten, is yet to offer a game that is even in the same ballpark as LBP.

Finally, Sackboy/Sackgirl is an incredible character. Nothing so cute, personable or memorable has been introduced in years. I would surely think that 10 or 20 years down the line, Sackperson will still be with us, much like other gaming mascots like Mario. The fact is that sackboy/girl has been given such a range of animations, emotions and appearances that I find it hard to believe that any human will not be taken in by this fictional character.

Needless to say, I fully recommend this game. Not only because it's a worthy investment, but also because I feel we need to reward those who work on producing true art. It would be a shame if a game like this went unrewarded, perceived to be worse then the many first person shooters that crowd the market with their ideals of murder. We might one day end up with nothing but them, and that would be a real tragedy.

I've never written a review for a product on Amazon before, but this game compelled me to do so. It's the single most convincing argument for buying a video game console system that I've ever seen, going all the way back to Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System. If you have a PS3, you absolutely must get this game. If you don't, get one and then get this game.

It comes off as a great priced controller at ten bucks...but you get exactly what you pay for in this case: a cheap third party controller(if you can even call it that) that will work for a couple weeks if you have better luck than myself. This controller had quite a few problems, but a few big ones. First Off, this controller is a PS3 controller and it has no PS button, so you have no access to the main menu (XMB) while in-game, and sometimes you need to access the XMB for online games for inviting friends and etc. Then there is the buttons and analog sticks, the buttons require you to press way to hard down on them to process a button hit and they feel very poorly put into the controller almost as if they can just fall right out. Not to mention the controller is an exact replica of a PS2 controller and not a PS3 one. A few of the minor problems: the cord is way too short, likely the length of a standard USB cable. It is very light to the point that it literally feels as if there is nothing inside it. I took the cheap route to try and get a decent controller and I should have known better. Its only 10 bucks so its not exactly the end of the world, but most certainly dont look this way for a controller purchase. I dont even think PS3 knows of this controller. It's so cheap that is actually says "Compatible with P3 game system", yes P3. Sometimes you just have to pay a little more if you want decent hardware. That's the case here.

This is the single worst controller I have ever used. First off, it's so light and cheap in your hands that it feels like it will break. The cord is so painfully short that you nearly have to sit with the system in your lap (it's maybe 18 inches long; shorter than the recharge cable for the system). The buttons don't visibly appear to stick, but their functions inside do. When you press a button while playing a game, there's a fair chance that it will stick and your character will keep doing the pressed action, like jumping (for a face button) or turning (for one of the joysticks). If you press more than one button at a time, the controller barely seems capable of handling multiple functions and one of them just might not work. I was playing Trine and about 80% of the time I couldn't jump or move at the same time. I had to choose one or the other! Also, sometimes it would seemingly lose it's connection to the PS3 even with the cord plugged completely in; it would just lose the signal. I know it's not the PS3, because I just bought it brand new a week and a half ago and the Dualshock 3 that came with it and the second Dualshock 3 that I bought work like a dream.

I purchased this so I could have a third controller without shelling out $50 like I did for the second one, but no. No. This piece of junk isn't even worth $0.99. At least with $0.99 you could buy a burrito at Taco Bell and that would assuredly be the better value. Trust me when I say that you're better off with no controllers than with this one. It's a huge waste of money and will only serve to infuriate you. I am seriously going to look into some quality control issues on Amazon to see if you can get products banned, because this -should NOTbe on the market. It may as well be considered theft.

The one time I make a purchase without 1st reading reviews, and it really bit me in the ass. Can't remember the last I was so disappointed in an amazon purchase. Of course, the obvious complaint about the controller is the lack of the PS button, but it also plays stiff as hell!!! You practically fracture your thumbs trying to use the thing effectively. I'd love to have been able to send the thing right back, but I let my temper get the best of me and ended up shattering the thing in frustration...

I guess it's really my own fault for neglecting to read reviews, and being blinded by the cheap price. damn though, times are hard!!!

I guess the moral of the story is, if something looks to good to be true...well, you know the rest.

I preordered this stand because it seemed like the best option available for me. My issue is I've got two dualshocks, two move and two navigation controllers, plus an eye camera...but only two USB ports on my PS3 slim.

This powered stand (it has it's own AC adapter) allows me to charge all 6 controllers at the same time. The charging docks use colored LED lights to inform you of each controller's status. Red means charging, alternating red/blue indicates it's 95% done, and blue lets you know it's 100%. There are three pairs of docks, each specifically designed to fit one of the three types of controllers. This means you can't charge more than two dualshocks in the docks at the same time, for example, though. On the other hand, while two controllers charge in the docks, you could attach 5 more via USB.

Yep, this stand also adds a net 3 additional USB ports to a PS3 system. The stand has 4 USB ports on the bottom right side, and there's a short cable which comes out of the bottom front of the stand and plugs into one of the PS3 console's two USB ports. So, you end up with a total of 5 usable USB ports -4 on the stand, and one on the PS3.

I'll keep my eye camera plugged in all the time and still have 4 other ports free for use. For example, I can plug in all the Guitar Hero instruments when I want, and not have to unplug the eye and/or not be able to charge my controllers. One can also use these ports to charge other USB devices, like cell phones, MP3 players, and bluetooth headset. The instructions specifically state, however, the USB ports will NOT charge Apple products, like iPod and iPhone.

I'd knock this product down half a star, if I could, because the charging docks are not "smart;" you can't store controllers in the docks indefinitely. This is why I said "almost perfect" in the review's title. The user manual says you should remove controllers after they are fully charged. It also states you should power off the stand when not in use (there's an on/off buttom on the front of the stand, but the USB ports are always active). I have to assume the controllers' batteries will get damaged if you leave them in the charging docks too long. I sure would be happy if that weren't the case, though.

One other minor quibble is that controllers don't exactly slide right in to the docks -you usually have to wiggle 'em around a bit to get them to properly align with the mini-USB plug on the controller port.

Because the stand requires the PS3 console be vertical, I've opened up some room on the top shelf of my home theater component rack. Much of this extra room gets used up, though, because the fully charged controllers can't stay in the stand's docks all the time. If I were able to keep all the controllers docked up, and not have to bother powering down the stand when not charging, this product would indeed be perfect, IMHO.

Overall, though, the flexibility in charging lots of gear at the same time, plus adding three more USB ports to the console, make this stand a really handy upgrade for someone with a PS3 slim and new move controllers (the stand's not compatible with the old PS3 fat consoles, btw). I haven't found a better option, and, for what you get, the stand's a decent value.

When I received my Pre-Ordered PS3 MOVE Power Stand I was immediately impressed. The design and functionality is perfect for my needs.

My needs were to charge multiple DUALSHOCK controllers, 2 MOVE "Wands", and a MOVE Navigation controller... while also keeping the PS3 SLIMs USB slots free.

This device does all of this perfectly.

A few notible facts to consider:

1. The A/C adapter has a semi-large size at the plug (about 3"x2"x1"). This made life a bit painful when plugging it into the power strip.

2. This charges 2 MOVE "wands" & 2 MOVE Nav controllers. These items are not the same size so the charging slots are specific to the controller type.

3. You CAN charge the MOVE controllers with the lanyard attached but NOT with a silicon "skin".

4. This holds the SLIM loosely (nothing "snaps" into place) but there is NO way your PS3 falls over unless your house flips upside down.

When originally looking for a charging station, I read the reviews from other dreamGEAR products. I was a bit skeptical after reading of many issues with a lack of power supply charging ability and durability. And since dreamGEAR only offers a 120-day warranty, I am still skeptical but very hopeful. I will update if this fails.

I ordered this product from convenience point of view so keep this in mind when reading this review. The charger has everything that one could desire: single stand that houses PS3, charge plugs for two controllers of every type, USB port extension, and stand alone power operation. But I found the following inconveniences with almost all of these features that made me return it and not worth dealing with it:

The stand does not lay flat so one would have to do tinker with it to make it stay level;

The charger uses USB plugs for the move controllers and not the contacts. This can induce unnecessary wear and tear and you have to spend time aligning the controllers so that they fit into the charges. Sometimes this goes quickly and sometimes it does not. From convenience point of view, I don't want to deal with it when I can simply slide it in with other chargers;

My understanding is that the charger does not shut off automatically when the controller is fully charged but only provides an indication of. If that is true, this also can put unnecessary wear and tear onto your controller so one has to check on the charge progress.

These inconveniences combined with two bad units that I received made me give up on this products at this time and go with Sony's move charger which presents to me less problems than this one. I still believe that the idea behind it is great and if the improvements in the design are made, I will consider it in the future.

this product is perfect and there are no problems with it what so ever. it charges 2 controllers, 2 move controllers, and 2 navigation controllers! oh and did i forget to mention it includes 4 extra usb ports?! not to mention that it is a vertical stand!! this product is many things. of course it is a universal charger for all your ps3 accessories but it also makes your ps3 look amazing cool! aside from its charging abilities, this power stand is also a very nice storage!!! i dont have much room where my ps3 is located so i had to put my controllers on top of the console and as you know the rounded top of the ps3 would cause my controllers to slide right off the table. so, this product can hold and organize all your controllers in a very cool and convenient way.

Key things to be aware of:

1. this product only works for the ps3 slim and not the original model

2. unfortunately this product does not have smart chargers meaning that if you leave your controllers in it with the power still on, it will over charge your controllers and shorten the life of their batteries.(this can be solved by just hitting the power switch on the front and that will stop the charging)

3. the ports for the move controllers are not compatible with each other meaning that you cant charge 4 navigation controllers or 4 move controllers. the ports are different sizes only allowing 2 of each kind!

All in all this product is very satisfying. the price is unbelievable too. sony released its own 2 port charger that only charges 1 of each controller for 30 bucks. for the same price, buy this product with double that of sony's products, an extra 2 controller chargers, a usb hub(4 additional ports), and a vertical stand. why wouldnt you buy this? all of its features work perfectly. i give it a perfect score!!!

Well after reading a few reviews on here, all of them mostly good. I decided to take a chance and order it, and am so glad I did. First off the PS3 Slim fits pretty snug inside of it, and so far the stand seems well built. (will update this review if any ports stop charging etc). But so far I am completely happy with it. So in addition to the 6 built in charging ports, I can now keep my Sony BT headset, external HDD, and PS Eye cam hooked up all the time, and still have 2 ports free for Rock Band 2 peripherals. The addition of 4 USB ports on this thing is such a life saver. I don't normally like keeping the PS3 vertical, it just doesn't look right, but the one negative is offset by being able to charge my 2 controllers, 2 Move controllers, and one Nav controller, and keeping everything else plugged in.

The charge cable that I received was not even the one shown in the picture. If you look at the cable in the picture and the one that came with the PS3, you will notice they both have that bulb at the end. The cable I received did not have it. Thew reason I ordered it was because it looked like the one for the PS3. The cable I received was just a regular USB cable, and it wasn't even 6 ft. long. Could have gotten a USB cable cheaper than this.

I bought this controller for my dad he really likes the fact that it is a Cowboys controller. But

1) It does not have a ps button on it to turn consol on or off.

2) It also is not as sensitive as the sony controller. So it stalls sometimes in games where you need to move quick.

3) It is hard to call timeouts on sports games.

Also delivery was very very slow. Took about 2.5 weeks.

This controller is a must have for Cowboys fans that love to play PlayStation 3, and want to play an alternative controller instead of the Dualshock 3. The different layout takes a little getting used to but works well once adjusted to.

My only complaint would be the price which was a little too steep, but I'm happy with it overall.

I, like many of you, when first heard about this game, inmediately thought "Mash Bros", and so I had my doubts. And honestly speaking, the main reason I pre-ordered the game was the free Vita version...but all my doubts are now put to rest, this is a game that deserves a 5 star rating and well deserved.

For starters, the game comes with a great roster, which includes:

Kratos

Parappa

Fat Princess

Sweet Tooth

Radec

Sly Cooper

Nathan Drake

Heihachi

Dante

Big Daddy

Jak

Ratchet

Nariko

Cole

Evil Cole

Raiden

Sack Boy

Sir Daniel

Spike

Toro

The game comes with different modes that include, Solo Play, Tournament, Versus Match and character customization and extras. Stages are fully active, they come packed with hazards, items and explosions, some of which can really hurt you and your oponents. Each character has 3 stages of "special moves" which can be used, once the special move meter is full. Once full, you simply press the R2 button and the character will engage his/her special move. Each special move stage has its unique set of skills and will vary in power, 3 being the strongest of course.

Graphics:

Very sharp and bright with plenty of interactive arenas. Each stage/arena belongs to each of the characters game locations, for example, a flying cargo plane (Drake), God Of War, etc. Each level has been carefully detailed and playing is not only fun, but there's eye candy and plenty of it. Each character has also been done with great attention to detail, from sack boy to sly cooper to Raiden, all look well done. Explosions and other effects look great and will not disappoint.

Sound:

Again, each stage has sounds from each franchise. I personally like Uncharted's classic orchestra style and God Of War's dramatic score. Character voices are original and their sound effects, from weapons to special moves, sound great; even during heavy battles, you'll be able to hear each effect, music and other stage related sounds with detail and plenty of punch.

Performance:

I was afraid to run into frame rate issues, but thankfully, this isn't the case. Even with a full roster on screen at once, the game perfornmed impecably. There was no lag during online play or choppiness during local and single play. I tested the game with a full roster on a stage with plenty of action, such as background effects and incoming hazards; the game did not skip a beat.

Multiplayer:

Simply put. FUN with NO LAG. Both local and online, the MP section is flawless, connections are easily stablished and maintain a lag free performance. Up to 4 players at once, both off/on line. At first, each fight will seem a bit chaotic, but once you learn the basics, each fight will become more interesting, as you will be thinking of ways to fill up your special move meter or simply finding ways to hurt your oponents with style ;)

Cross Play Multiplayer:

I tested it and have not complaints. I was able to battle against PS Vita/PS3 opponents without any issues. Connections are smooth and easy to stablish. I noticed both systems were in perfect sync, each fighter's move translated into an accurate action on the screen, it was 100% real time action. More about cross play below****

Controls:

Easy to pick up and learn. You'll be given the option to play a "tutorial" the first time (one time only) you start the game and even though the game is extremely easy to play, I recommend playing the tutorial, so you can familiarize yourself with each button. Pulling combos will take some practice, but are easily done once you get the hang of it. I have no complaints about the controls and neither will you.

In conclusion, if you're still on the fence about this game, let me put your mind at ease and tell you that this game delivers, it is FUN to play, specially with other players, the more the better; you will probably spend a lot of time on this game off and online and its replay value is extremely high. A great party game that can acomodate those whom just want a quick, fun fighting game and those whom like more technical fighting, such as combos, etc. No matter what your aproach is, this game is without a doubt, a great start for the series.

VITA GAME DOWNLOAD:

PS Vita Code: THE FREE VITA GAME CAN ONLY BE LINKED TO ONE PS3 DISC ACCOUNT. THERE'S NOT CODE TO ENTER OR GIVE AWAY.

The game includes a free copy of the Vita version, but it doesn't come with a code nor will it give you one, here's what you do:

Insert disc into your PS3

Navigate to the game menu on your PS3 dashboard.

There you will see 3 disc icons for the game.

Select the second icon for "disc benefits"

You will be taken to the sub menu

Choose the cross buy option.

Once you've done that, you will be taken to the PSN store, where you will add the vita version into your cart. The price will be $0. Check out and it will be on your download list.

Log in to PS Store from your Vita, go to your download list.

You will see the game, plus its online pass.

Download and you're done.

If you don't have a PSN acount, you will need to create one in order to download the Vita game.

***************************************************************************************************************

CROSS-PLAY INSTRUCTIONS:

Please do not get confused with cross and remote play. Remote play connects YOUR vita to YOUR PS3 to be able to navigate and play game discs on your PS3 from your Vita (not all discs work). Anyway, Cross Play works by sending friends "game invitations", but there has to be a copy of the game on each system (PS3 & Vita), here's how:

From PS3:

Versus Mode

-Press R2, Invite Friends.

-Select the friend whom is playing on his Vita

-A message will pop up on your friend's Vita showing your gaming invite

-Once he accepts, he will then apear on as player 2.

-You're done! Battle and enjoy.

From PS Vita:

-Versus Mode

-WiFi

-Make sure you're connected to PSN by touching the upper right hand corner, you'll be taken to a sub menu, there you will either see "sign in" (connect if you do) or view invites/invite friends.

-Select "Invite" and your friends list will apear, select him/her

-PS3 player will get an invite message

-Once they accept, you can battle together.

FINAL NOTE ABOUT CROSS PLAY....

I'm sure you want to give this a try right away, with your own Vita, don't worry, it's actually quite simple, create another PSN account for yourself, but remember that you will need another email address....to avoid confusion and headaches when creating another PSN acount, simply add a number to your actual PSN account when creating the extra one...example, your current PSN account is "PLAYER" make the new account "PLAYER2"

Hope this helps.

I'm a huge fan of Smash, and I admit I was really unsure about this game. After playing the beta I walked away thinking this game was not for me. That was largely because I kept comparing it to Smash. However, I decided to keep playing it, and the more I played the more I realized how much fun could be derived. I had a blast with

friends. The strategy you have to employ here is totally different from Smash Bros., and in some ways the game is deeper too. So I per-ordered! (still waiting on my code from Amazon). I have NO regrets and this game is worth every penny. Added to that, we get two free DLC characters for 2 weeks sometime early next year.

I got this game around 2 PM yesterday and I played it till 5 AM this morning. It is very addictive. I suggest people to give it a chance. Pick one character and focus on that character and ease into it. It's one of those games you have to play for sometime to really appreciate it. It also helps to not compare this game to Smash since this is a totally different beast and it is NOT a clone. IT is true, it was inspired by Smash Bros. and on a superficial level there are similarities on the exterior, but they are worlds apart when you analyze the core.

Furthermore, this game was designed for hardcore fighters who want depth in their games and also for people who just want to pick up and play. Sony and Superbot are definitely going in the right direction with this and I cannot wait to see what they can do with the next installment. Now ... back to my tag team match with my buddies online. :)

If you are looking at this game and say to yourself that it is just a smash bros. clone then you are dead wrong. First and most obvious difference between all stars and smash bros is how you kill your opponents. Killing your enemies requires you to use specials, which you build up by attacking your opponents and building your AP meter. This makes the game extremely strategic sometimes, as a level 1 might be a better option than a level 2 depending on the level and how many players you are going against. It also makes defense important because you don't want another player to get his level 3. Another major difference between all stars and smash bros. is its combo system. Each character has unique combos that they can execute and you can also experiment and make your own custom combos. Some characters such as Heihachi and Kratos have their combos from their original games.

The Arcade mode is exactly what you expect from a fighting game, you fight your way up a ladder and then at the end you go against the boss. There are cut scenes when you fight your rival as well as some narration at the beginning and the end of the mode.

The online is extremely well down and has the standards for a fighting game; icons, titles, leaderboards, and etc. There is minimal lag in some matches(greatly improved on beta), but most of the games play very well.

In terms of balance there is no overwhelmingly powerful character and SuperBot will patch often to make sure that there aren't any.

Pros:

1.Characters are completely unique from each other.

2.Deep combat system with a lot of hidden depth.

3.Graphics (especially vita) look great and run at 60fps.

4.Deep online mode with minimal lag.

5.Four players at once is a blast especially 2 vs 2

6.Special system is new and fresh.

7.Cool character selection that is growing with dlc(some free!)

Cons

1. Presentation in menus are bland.

2. Some music tracks are great and some are kind of quiet.

3. Some moves are spammable specifically some of kratos' and sly coopers' moves.

All i can say is that this is a game where you'd want to drag your friends to come play with you and have fun with. Also this game is suitable for all ages, it covers a lot of different genres through the stages, you can literally tell that sony put a lot of effort into this. on the downside the character roster is a bit lacking compared to tekken tag tournament 2, but i can't complain because i heard dlc will be coming for this game. also i don't want to sound like a crash bandicoot fanboy, but where is he? sony is like pulling a megaman right here, and totally abandoning him. OK now back to the game, well you got many to do but you will be diving into the arcade and multiplayer instantly, as for the arcade Its just plain simple arcade to me, multiplayer is fun but my complaint for those two are that sometimes the game screen zoom out to see all 4 players and it sometimes confuses you as to where you are. anyway this game is great, deserves to be a day 1 purchase and is worth the 60 dollar price tag.

Ahh yes, PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale (PSABR), Sony's newest multiplayer exclusive. Signature characters from Sony's most iconic franchises unite to duke it out. The idea sounds quite entertaining on paper, and the final product results in nothing the the purest, most delightful beguilement.

If you've checked other reviews, commentaries, and previews for PSABR, you may have noticed that they all bring up the same exact subject matter. Chances are you're probably thinking it anyway, so I might as well address the elephant in the room right now Nintendo's own mascot fighter, Super Smash Brothers. If you're a gamer who has not been on a distant planet for the past 13 years, you've probably heard of Super Smash Brothers at some point in your life. Yes, even SuperBot, PSABR's developer, has admitted to drawing some inspiration from the successful Nintendo franchise, among other games; however, the similarities between the two series end at the concept (various characters from each company's franchises fighting one another), and the 2D-style of fighting. Gameplay between the two is completely contradistinctive, to the point that one can consider them polar opposites.

As a mascot fighter, the character roster has a massive impact on the game, and this roster truly does capture the legacy of PlayStation. Huge Sony names of today are present, including Kratos from God of War, Cole MacGrath in his good and evil forms from inFAMOUS, and Ratchet & Clank from their eponymously named series. Past Sony icons of the '90s, like Sir Daniel Fortesque from Medievil and Parappa the Rapper from his self-titled series, both make a triumphant return. Fat Princess, from the highest selling game on PSN for two years straight, joins the battle alongside Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper from the PS2 era, as well as Heavenly Sword's Nariko from the early days of the PS3. Sackboy, from Europe's critically acclaimed LittleBigPlanet, and Sony's Japanese mascot, Toro the Cat, join forces with American stars, Colonel Radec and Nathan Drake, from Killzone and Uncharted, respectively. The year 2008 marked a historical moment in PlayStation history, because Sony was able to acquire rights to the Bioshock franchise, a former XBox exclusive. That moment is signified here, as Bioshock's Big Daddy is proudly featured in PSABR, and he fits in seamlessly next to PlayStation veterans, Heihachi from Tekken, Spike from Ape Escape, and Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. Dante from the upcoming DmC: Devil May Cry evens out the roster with Metal Gear Solid's Raiden, both of whom remain true to their flashy sword swinging styles from their respective games. Overall, the 20 characters in this game do a fantastic job of capturing the 17+ year legacy of the PlayStation's history, and fans will be excited to see these iconic characters all unite for the first time.

*NOTE: While the current roster is amazing, I should mention that there ARE a few big-names missing most notably Metal Gear Solid's Solid Snake, Final Fantasy's Cloud Strife (from Final Fantasy VII), and the former PS1 mascots, Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot, from their self-titled franchises. Note that Sony does NOT own these four franchises. SuperBot has stated that they tried everything in their power to obtain these characters, but in the end, the final decision was left to the owners of each franchise (Konami for Snake, Square-Enix for Cloud, and Activision for Crash and Spyro.)

While the roster plays a major part, the gameplay is the most important. After all, what's a game without gameplay? As stated before, this game is completely unique from SSB and other traditional fighters. No health bars, damage meters, or knockouts exist. Instead, you must win by having the most kills via one of three special moves, referred to as "supers." Supers are obtained by building a certain amount of meter, known as "AP." To build AP, you must connect attacks to your opponents. In other words, you MUST attack to have access to a super, and you cannot win without supers. I was skeptical about this mechanic at first, but after trying it, I can confidently say that this method works 100% perfectly. It is simple, because the game revolves around supers, with no exceptions. This method is balanced, because there are no hidden exploits to rig the score. You don't attack, you don't have access to a super, meaning you don't win. This method is also skillful, because it requires meter management, paying attention to your surroundings, and converting attacks to kills. If you use a super without thinking, you will either miss, get hit before your super connects, or use too much meter for a low amount of kills. Most importantly, this method is FUN. Seriously, once you get the hang of it (which doesn't take long at all), you will want to play match after match, knocking everyone around the arena getting kills.

The controls in PSABR are as easy as possible. Everything is done with the press of one button. Each character has different attacks and supers, but they have the exact same controls. No fancy inputs that change between characters, no memorizing of button sequences, and no double/triple button pressing just one button and the analog stick. This fact means you spend less time learning the controls, and more time playing as the many different characters, unlike some of the more technical fighters such as Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom. Graphics wise, the game looks beautiful. The opening cinematic is gorgeous. Each character looks true to their established games, and the stages have so much attention to detail. Franchises that didnt get a playable character, like Resistance, LocoRoco, and Buzz! look great in the background and build upon the PlayStation legacy even more. The sound is great as well, with gunshots being distinctive from sword slashes, skateboard bashing, and electrical whipping. The stages have remastered renditions of iconic music, and even the game's menu theme sounds awesome in surround sound.

Although this is a multiplayer game, SuperBot did create a single player mode for PSABR. A traditional arcade mode exists, with hand drawn intros/endings for each character, complete with voice acting. The arcade mode is quite simple, but takes about 30 minutes to get through for each character. At 20 characters, that's 10 hours off the bat. No storyline or cutscenes exist, apart from a brief rivalry scene. A practice mode is available, along with tutorials and challenges for each character. The challenges range from laughingly easy to excruciatingly difficult. A single player VS. mode exists too, where a single player can fight up to three computer controlled opponents at once, at different difficulties. Finally, unlockables are available, from character intros to taunts to costumes, and more goodies. Overall, the single player is great for a fighting game, but may not be enough for those wanting a fully fledged out single player experience. If you are buying PSABR to play alone, you may want to consider looking elsewhere.

Multiplayer on the other hand, is where this game absolutely SHINES and just blows everything else out of the water with a nuclear missile. The local multiplayer has options between team battles and free for alls, for 2 to 4 players, in a timed match, stock limit, or kill limit match. Vita users can play with console users, with absolutely no lag or framerate issues. The online mode is one of the best. I have encountered no lag 95% of the time. Considering no game's online is 100% lag free, I'd say this is as close to 100% as we'll get. Local play and online play can be integrated, and it is so fluid that one cannot tell the difference. For instance, two local players can play with a friend via PSN, and another random online player who is using a Vita! With NO difference in the match! SuperBot deserves a standing ovation for this, because I know this must have been no easy feat to accomplish. The online modes are the same as local modes; however, no option exists to play 1 vs 1 with a random player online, which may deter some people. Don't get me wrong, FFA and team battles are still extremely fun, but for those players who want to show off their skills in 1 vs 1, you are limited to local play only and may be discouraged. Hopefully this gets patched in soon. Still, even without that feature, there are hundreds of hours of replay value in this multiplayer, and isn't a game you'll be putting down anytime soon.

Also, I should mention that buying a new PS3 copy of this game allows one access to a free Vita version of the game as well. Two games for the price of one.

Wow, this review was way longer than I expected. In summary:

+ Ease of controls

+ Unique, addicting gameplay and mechanics

+ Great graphics and sound

+ Great roster and stages

+ Outstanding multiplayer, and multiplayer compatibility

+ Exceptional online play

+ Free Vita copy

Missing some key characters (hopefully fixed via DLC one day)

Average single player mode

No 1 vs 1 online (hopefully fixed via a patch)

May not be as technical for the more hardened fighting game veterans

Overall, I'd say the negatives aren't TOO horrible. The only big one is the no 1 vs 1 online, which can be easily fixed. If it does, I'll update this review accordingly. Overall, this is a fantastic job by SuperBot, which is definitely worth checking out if you are even the slightest fan of PlayStation and want a great multiplayer experience. Well done SuperBot, I look forward to many great things from you in the future.
