The product came in a reasonable amount of time and was exactly as pictured. Total improvement to the feel of the stock dual shock. I saw complaints about customers who ordered similar items from another vendor getting thin, low quality silicone covers but the covers I received from this one are thick and pleasant to touch. The only complaint I have is that the per item shipping came to more than the cost of the actual product. Other than that, highly satisfied.

The component cables experience for the PS2. High-Quality games like Resident Evil 4 with progressive scan look visibly sharper and more vibrant and you can make out more detail especially in distant objects and text. Unfortuantely, it has an issue where I lose video for a moment every now and then. I cannot comment on the supplied HDMI cable. However, it does seem like an added-value having one.

Even without progressive, it the component cable makes a difference. I put in Fantastic 4 and looked at the bonus content comic-book covers have readable text now. It is interesting they put the detail in the game but the standard cables can't take advantage of it. I also fund the motion to be significantly improved (even without progressive). Some of the Chopping or frame-loss I thought was a result of the PS2's hardware limitations was resolved with the upgraded cables!

The trouble came with losing video occasionally. I lose the signal (resulting in a completely black screen) about once every 1/2 hour to hour for about 3 seconds with the cable. Truthfully, it is not that bad. I just look at it like one more enemy in the game. But when my friends come over to play, one of them really complains about it. He says it is terrible and ruins his chance to play his best. He says I should just use the stock composite cables and not look back.

So I love the cables, but my friend crabs at me :p

Can't really say much about a cable, but honestly for the price, I expected a minimal to non-existent improvement, but holy cow was I wrong. The difference between using this cable and the supplied AV cable is literally out of this world. AND it comes with a free HDMI cable, which, between it and my other HDMIs, some of which are "high quality name brands", I can tell no difference.

Ok.. I realize it was cheap and didn't expect it to be thick gauge or super high quality but... did expect it to work. Have tried playing with the wires to check if its just a simple short and did get a very distorted, off color image for a second but then nothing again.

Sure these cables worked for my ps3, and they allowed me to go up to 1080i, my tv doesnt have 1080p.

However these cables will give off very bright tones of colors, making it seem like your tv's contrast is too high when it is not, no matter how much I tried to adjust every setting of my tv/ps3 nothing worked. No matter what you do details will be lossed, and they are bright enough to hurt my eyes. They even made some of my text unreadable. Thus I had to return back to my composite RCA cables which gave me accurate colors, and much better picture when I was only at 480i. I will be looking for other high quality cables.

The HDMI cables I cannot review as my tv's insert for hdmi is broken.

Bought these cables only to find out that the red wire of the component cable doesn't display at all. I tried multiple tv's and a variety of other solutions, all of which failed.

I would suggest going to a different manufacturer for a PS3 component cable.

My husband and I love this game. It is great if you like to play the campaigns together. What I like is that you can start the game alone but if you have a friend that wants to join in you start at the same level, you do not have to reset the game! It is a must buy if you love to play with a friend at home. Right up there will Resistance (the first one). In addition, it is a fairly long game so you get your money's worth. The only thing is that this game is a little scary for the little ones so I would not recommend it for anyone under 13. Other than that enjoy!

Ok, let me get this out of the way, I have played both the 360 and PS3 version through the first couple of chapters. I don't see a difference, both versions look fantastic!! This is an absolutely beautiful game on either system, I purchased the PS 3 version because I am still, and always be a fan of the Dualshock controller, I guess you could call me a dualshock fanboy.

Ok some reviewers hammered home the comparisons to RE 4, and that's fair, apparently Capcom didn't want to stray from what worked for them and RE 4 was a runaway hit. I like that the game "feels" familiar but different at the same time. I played the demo a lot to get a handle on the controls, because we can all agree that they take a bit of adjustment from other 3rd person games. I know for the purity of the game Capcom decided to leave the run and gun aspect out of it, but I can't tell you how many times I wish I could pull a Gears of War tactic out of my a$$ during some of the more intense encounters, but after adjusting to the RE frame of mind I adapted quickly.

The story has enough cheese in it to keep me happy, I am perfectly happy with the story, my level of escapism with the game was just right, I don't need a life altering story to make me love a game.

I can't recommend this game enough, it is perfect for me in many ways. In my opinion it deserves my 5 Star rating.

PSN IdKmann_Rocks

add me for some co-op! I am trying to get more friends on PSN!

*EDIT*

I am adding that the inventory/cash system is ridiculous lol. You can literally farm levels for cash, ammo, weapons and treasures over and over and over...

I still love the game though, online co-op is amazing.

FOR THE FANS OF RESIDENT EVIL 4: This is about the best sequel to RE4 that you could hope for. The graphics are excellent. It has a lot of big guns and intense action, and it adds co-op play to the mix. The controls have been slightly enhanced, as this new installment mirrors some of the tweaks that games such as Gears of War and Dead Space have added to the template RE4 created back in 2005. However, you cannot move and shoot, and you may be a tinge disappointed with the fact that neither Leon or the Merchant return. If that's what you wanted to find out, you can stop reading now.

Are they gone? Good. Now it's just us in the room.

You guys remember Resident Evil. You remember the exploration, the emphasis on limited ammo and weaponry, the 3D characters against static backgrounds with jarring camera angles to heighten tension. You remember the scares, the jumps... the "Survival Horror". And if you remember RE4, then you remember that you've already had to kiss all that goodbye.

You also remember the storyline. You remember the evil, faceless Umbrella corporation. You remember battling with all of their insane Bio-Organic Weapons, monsters and zombies. You remember how each subsequent installment in the series was crescendoing to a final showdown with Umbrella, all while revealing more and more mysteries about the elusive company. You remember the ending of Code Veronica, which was set up as a lead-in to that aforementioned final confrontation with the next sequel. And you also remember that sequel was RE4, which flushed that whole entire plotline down the toilet in the very opening cut sequence. Let's recap.

RE:CV Ending/Chris Redfield: "It's payback time. We've got to destroy Umbrella. Now, let's finish this once and for all!" The jet shoots off into the sunset, the credits roll.

RE4 opening: Umbrella went bankrupt and was destroyed, here's something else.

Well, gee. That was pretty anti-climactic. So the whole climax you guys (I'm looking at you, Capcom) have been building towards this whole entire time has already happened? And it all happened off-screen? There seems to be a HUGE gap here. Pretty sloppy. I would go so far as to say that this opening cutscene is the biggest anti-climatic turdbomb in the history of gaming. And what's the deal with this cult and the mind-controlling parasites thing? Why is Leon being chased by a moving statue? WTF? The whole plot of this game doesn't seem to fit in with the overall flow of the storyline that's been established up until this point. So how's the game? Well, the game is good. Very good in fact. It's a great action game (emphasis on ACTION), but I'm still scratching my head as to why this game is entitled Resident Evil in the first place.

And so, then we were given "The Umbrella Chronicles" for the Wii, which was basically the half-baked answer we got to the gap between RE:CV and RE4, and it's not even part of the numbered series. And now, after four long years, we finally have RE5. So how is it?

Well guys, it's basically RE4 all over again with a fresh lick of paint and co-op. Even the Plaga-infected villagers, which return as the main enemies here, have the exact same animations that they did in RE4. Now, I have been following this game's development for a long time, and I don't think it should take four years just to make another linear, Go-from-Point(A)-to-Point(B)-and-kill-everything-in-sight, RE4-style game, but I guess I'm wrong. Remember when they said that there would be new enemies in this game? Not Plagas or zombies, but a whole new breed of the dead? What happened to that? What happened to their talk of that heat meter beside your health, that if not lowered with water, your character would start to hallucinate? It just feels like this game is too scared to try anything different from RE4, and I think that it is worse off for it. It just doesn't have an identity of its own, and as much as I've dogged on RE4 in this review, it was much more effective in its execution than RE5 here. There is the co-op, which is definitely how this game is meant to be played. Playing it with a buddy definitely enhances the experience, and will have the two of you strategizing over tactics. As far as the A.I. goes, I've seen a lot of people complaining about it, but I didn't really have any problems with it at all. Sheva DOES combine herbs and things, but yes, you will have to do most of the item management for both characters, which can prove to be quite the pain since the item management is in real-time, and you're often surrounded by enemies. You can also quick-select your weapons with the directional pad; a control mechanic lifted straight from Gears of War. Speaking of which...

The standard controls are going to be very confusing for newcomers. You'd think they'd add the ability to move while aiming and shooting. It's kind of awkward that the left analog just sticks and does nothing when you aim, and you have to switch over to the right analog to control your laser sight. It just feels awkward, like something's missing there. Because, well, something IS missing there. I find it baffling that Capcom has emulated the controls/enhancements from the action-heavy Gears of War, yet chose to leave out the most practical use of those controls. The reason that there is no run & gun, according to Capcom themselves, is because it racks up the tension that the series is known for, and that by adding run & gun, RE5 would be straying from its roots. Um... follow along with us, Capcom. This game isn't true to its roots at all. This game is not Survival Horror at all. There's no creepy atmosphere or anything. The whole game takes place outdoors in broad daylight. I didn't even see one door opening sequence. Instead there are a brief trivia lessons in the load times between doorways to the next segment of the level. This is an action game. It's even more action-oriented than RE4. So, Capcom, if Resident Evil is going to be an action game now, then it should BE an action game.

As for the storyline, right off the bat, it's better than RE4's. But that's not saying much. Chris Redfield is now with a new anti-Bioterrorism organization known as the B.S.A.A., which sends him to Africa to bust a bioweapons deal that's going down in the Kijuju region. It is here that he meets up with his partner for this assignment, Sheva Alamor. From there on, there are a lot of twists and blatantly obvious turns. A couple characters from the series past return, a few new ones are introduced, and most all of the original plot threads are brought to a close, culminating with the death of a certain prominent antagonist. The story was kind of up and down for me. In a lot of ways, it felt like a true sequel, notwithstanding all of the dumb crap from RE4 tacked on. I was thrilled when Umbrella was briefly re-introduced and explored, as well as the section where Chris and Sheva stumble upon an underground laboratory containing a familiar old B.O.W., which was great to see, and had me pining for the good ol' days of the series' past. As a hardcore fan, that section alone was worth the price tag for me. But a lot of the big reveals -such as Wesker and Spencer's true motives -felt very contrived and cliche. The ending also felt strangely anti-climactic, and by the time it was all over, I was still left with many unanswered questions. What did Wesker ever do with Sherry and Steve? What ever happened to Barry? Last I knew, according to the RE3 Epilogue, he was heading to Europe with Jill and Chris. I'd rather Capcom brought back more of those past characters as opposed to introducing more and more new ones. They just dropped all those plot threads. They could have at least given us something to wrap up those character arcs, like an Epilogue file or something like that.

Overall, I found Resident Evil 5 to be pretty mediocre. Sure, there's a lot of great features and tons of unlockables that give it a lot of replay value, but at the end of the day, this game is pretty forgettable. The gameplay was solid four years ago, but it's 2009 now. The things that were exciting about RE4 then aren't so exciting now. Action games like this have evolved with stuff like Gears of War and Dead Space, leaving RE5's dated gameplay in the dust. It just feels stale. I never got bored like this with the classic Resident Evil games. I still don't understand why people dogged on its controls so much. It takes you, like, ten minutes tops to get accustomed to the "tank"-style controls, and then they're a breeze. They become second nature to you. They never should have changed the formula. However, I also realize that there's a new fanbase now; a new generation of gamers that don't have any patience for the classic titles. The thing is, with a lot of these kids now... the PS2 was, like, their first system. And these PS3s and 360s are like their Super Nintendos. Capcom is taking the series into a new direction for a new fanbase, and for the oldschool RE fans, you can consider RE5 here to be the last hurrah. In other words, this is the de facto ending of the series that wraps up the original storyline before even more fundamental changes are made. Well, it's been fun.

R.I.P.

RESIDENT EVIL

(1996-2009)

UPDATE (2/28/10)

LOST IN NIGHTMARES DLC PACK: Does Capcom read Amazon.com reviews...? It seems as though every cry from the oldschool fans has been addressed in some manner with this tasty new (though very short) little downloadable scenario, which covers a scene that was depicted as a flashback in the original game. It features Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine infiltrating the estate of the infamous Ozwell E. Spencer the Umbrella Corporation's founder. To me, this feels like the game that RE5 should have been. To start things off, this scenario features a nighttime setting, and actually has some atmosphere going for it that captures that classic Resident Evil feel. In fact, it's almost identical to the original mansion from RE1 and you will have to solve some similar puzzles (if you wanna call them that -the puzzles are all pretty much mindless fodder). Also, none of that purchasing or upgrading weapons business is to be found here. You start off with a handgun, and just use what little else you happen to find on-site. Ammo is very limited on the higher difficulties. There's also another section further in when you lose ALL of your weapons, and have to resort to using traps instead. This particular section can get pretty tense. The only minor gripes I have are that it's too short, and I could have used some more enemy variety (like Hunters). You really only fight one particular type of enemy, and he's basically the Executioner with a new paint job. But for five bucks, it doesn't lose too much points for this, and it's really a love letter to the long-time fans. This scenario is such a throwback to the original that it even goes to the point of being nonsensical. For instance, you will find the 'Keeper's Diary' from RE1 here, even though that document should have been destroyed long ago along with the original mansion, AND the rest of Raccoon City for that matter. I remember reading another review here on Amazon entitled, "4 / / Itchy Tasty... is gone". It's like they threw that thing in there just for that guy. I mentioned missing the fixed backgrounds, and there's an easter egg that allows you to play with fixed backgrounds in the mansion section (though trying to battle enemies in this mode is nearly impossible now with the RE4/5 precision-aiming setup). I mentioned the absence of Barry in my original review, and while they didn't tie up his character arch or anything, they did throw him into the new "Mercenaries Reunion" mode, along with Rebecca Chambers. I would have liked to have seen them in the actual game, but either way, it's nice to see them again. Speaking of the Merc Reunion mode, though, it's pretty lame that you can't pair the new Reunion characters up with the characters from the original Mercenaries mode. It's its own secluded thing. Anyway, I probably won't be reviewing the "Desperate Escape" DLC, but I felt compelled to speak on this new Lost in Nightmares chapter, which I rate

4 STARS out of 5.

Why couldn't the rest of RE5 have been more like this?

Read Best Reviews of Resident Evil 5 Here

RE5 feels very much like RE4 with a new backdrop and forced co-op. In fact, that is almost exactly what it is, however it is about half as long as its predecessor. There is more stuff to unlock and the realtime inventory system is both nice and infuriating at the same time. The fact that an egg now takes up as much space as rocket launcher is annoying and the fact that melee/bullet proof vest take up inventory slots is also befuddling.

That said, it is fun to actually play and the game is easy enough for most people to get into right away (after readjusting themselves to the control scheme that now feels outdated). I give it a 4 out of 5.

Want Resident Evil 5 Discount?

This game had a lot of potential but it fell way short of what i could have been.

First of let me say that the AI is Terrible! At Least in regards to Sheva. She is the stupidest AI character i have ever had to deal with. There was a part in the game when her commander says to Chris that she is a very skilled soldier and I laughed so hard when he said that. She always shoots first and removes the element of supprise you could sometimes have. Also When she shoots she doesn't stop until until she's totally out of ammo. She uses herbs and health spray as soon as i give it to her too.

I want to comment about how you can't mix herbs in her inventory either. You have to move them into your inventory to do it. And given the lack of inventory space(9 slots each) it's really a problem. Did i mention that the body armor you can buy takes up an inventory slot? No? Well it does.

The set up of the levels is in chapters like the last one only you can go back to any one at any given time which mean you can farm the levels for ammo and treasures. I found myself doing this every few chapters because I was low on ammo( Thanks Sheva!). Theres no combining treasure like in 4 WTF???

There one more thing that really pissed me off about this and thats the fact that you can't us a herb or health spray when its on the ground. Like if your about to pick it up but want to use it right away you need to have a free slot open in your inventory to do so. In Resident evil 4 you could just use it without having to pick it up.

The ending also wasn't very exciting, at least in my opinion but i'm not going to spoil it for you.

The reason i gave it 4 stars for fun is becasue of the mercenaries mini game which is awsome. This is probably the only "fun" i had with this game and you know why? No stupid Sheva using all my ammo! Too bad you have to BEAT the game to get it! The no pausing to switch weapons in the inventry adds a level of urgency to it too. If you really have to have this game I would suggest rushing through the story to get to the MERCENARIES!!!

And for you people that are going to say I should play it with a friend or "why don't you get some friends" I didn't want to play it with a friend because it's a survival horror game if i play it with a friend it kind of of ruins that. Not that Capcom didn't do most of that for me already.

Things to know about this collection:

The digital download code is a bundle package SSF2TurboHDRemix, SF3:3rdSOE, SFA1-3, and all DLC are one code to redeem. So, if you already have, say, SF2 downloaded, and were planning to maybe give the one included in this box to a friend, no bueno.

The light-up Ryu statue is plastic. The detailing is awesome, but the entire thing is super light and has a plastick-y feel to it not a problem if it's staying in the box or going on a shelf. Also includes batteries, so (Shirley voice) that's nice.

The belt is high-grade, seriously, this thing is thick enough to whip someone with. And the embroidery is nicely stitched.

Art book nice, hard-bound, but pretty thin; Certificate of Authenticity attached to the inside of the lid, must be removed to get to the art book; soundtrack CD's nicely presented, individual slip-in plastic sleeves, going right back into the box after getting ripped to the computer; game discs, natch; and finally, the Blu-ray discs of the Animated Series (awful), the Street Fighter 2 Animated Movie (excellent), and other visual goodies.

The box itself comes in a slip-sleeve, black with the kanji in white on front. Silver hinges and corners, a nice pseudo-suede feel to the box, again the kanji in the lid. Feels solidly built, good construction. This box won't fall apart anytime soon.

Hope this helps.

I just purchased this yesterday and im very happy with it. I already have Street Fighter 4 and SF X Tekken, So I did not purchase this set because of these games, For the PS3 version you do also gett SF Alph 1,2,3 and Alpha 3 Max for the PSP download. The Box is nice, it has the Japanese Kanji Character "Heaven" with some sort of leather and metalic corners. I would value the empty Box at least $25 itself. The Ryu statue is pretty cool, it lights up, I just wish it were bigger. If sold alone that would be worth at least $20. The Ryu Black Belt has the embroidered Japanese Characters "Furinkazan" Meaning Wind, Forest, Fire, and Mountain. That thing is worth about $20 also. Then we got 11 CD Soundtracks, worth about $ 7 each. 2 Blue Ray Video Discs including a Documentary, Street Fighter 2 the Movie(which is the Renegade Censored version), the 2 Street Fighter 4 Anime videos, and the complete Street Fighterr Animmated series which has 26 episodes. Alone these videos would be valued at about $35. The Tribute Art Book , with submission from people all over the world is really amazing. Many of these pieces are professional quality works that are on or above quality of official Capcom Artwork, it could be work $ 25 if sold alone. If all these items were sold separately this is already over $200. Given the Limitted Number, this set could go for more, than that, Christmas is only 3 months away too. Im really happy I got this set.

Am I the ONLY one a bit disappointed that this collection does NOT come with the original Street Fighter game?!

Want Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set Discount?

Being a Street Fighter fan since the SNES, I've never been more excited for an anniversary set. That being said, I really can't believe they didn't include some form of the very first title, since this set IS celebrating the release of that game and not the release of the seminal SF2.

That doesn't mean this set isn't completely worth it though. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD is a glorious resprite of the game that helped put fighters on the map. 3rd Strike Online Edition runs smooth as butter. And the addition of the SSF4 Arcade Edition was great as I already bought SSF4 and didn't want to spend on the AE dlc or disc. Street Fighter X Tekken is a wonderfully executed experiment for the series, bringing a Marvel vs. Capcom style tag team playstyle and some of the crazier Tekken characters into the fold.

The soundtrack discs are a fantastic addition, especially the fan remix discs, spanning the sounds of the entire series (SF1 soundtrack IS included but again no game, curious). I'm a big fan of art books and the one included in this set is great, including some great art of your favorite characters and a solid construction. There's also a Ryu statue and black belt which are both well made little touches. The box itself is a nicely constructed felt chest with a storage spot in the top for the art book and certificate of authenticity (another funny little addition to all of these collectors boxes but nice to have none the less). The ONLY complaint I really have is how the soundtracks are packaged. The concept is right, as each disc has a small sliver in the box that they should fit nicely into, but the plastic they put the discs in is too flimsy and gets bent easily. No damage to the discs, just looks a bit janky in this otherwise beautiful collection.

The set also comes with a download voucher that, at least for the PS3, makes the price tag COMPLETELY worth it. All 3 Alpha games, Alpha 3 for PSP, hundreds of Avatars (if that's your thing), and every bit of costume dlc for both SSF4 AE and Street Fighter x Tekken. That's a ton of money saved.

I also cannot recommend the beautifully produced Area 5 documentary "I Am Street Fighter" enough. The doc features interviews with some of the most important players in the original rise of the series and the great return it's had since SF4 launched a few years back. It's especially great seeing Seth Killian talk geek about his love of the series. The discs also include the Street Fighter Animated Movie, SF4: The Ties that Bind (which was included with the original SF4 collectors edition), a SSF4 original animation, and the animated series that you should remember if you were a Saturday morning cartoon fan.

This is nearly the perfect box set. If you already own all of the games that this set presents, I'd still recommend checking it out almost based on the documentary and the box itself. Again, the only complaints I could possibly have, and the only reason this isn't a perfect 5 star review, are that the soundtracks could've been better packaged and there is no SF1 included anywhere in the set. Enjoy this great set if you do happen to catch it, and get online and enjoy the flash kicks!

I've read a lot about the problems this game has been having on the PS3... talks of slow-down in the game play, reviews coming mostly from Europe, particulary the UK. I'm not sure what is different here in the US, but I've had absolutely no slow-down problem of any sort. I've played it on my Standard-TV (non-HD) and my HD set, and everything is running smooth.

As far as I can tell, that's been the only thing dragging down other reviews, because this game is close to perfect. Yes, it does the lack of licencing is an issue(doesn't have all real team names, player names, etc.), but that can be easily fixed using the editing tools, or you can download optionfiles with everything fixed and updated. Just google "Pro Evo 2008 ps3 option file" and you should be able to find it along with instructions.

The soccer in this game is brilliant, and is much more realistic than FIFA!!

This game as all the Pro Evolution Soccer series, formerly known as Winning Eleven, is about enjoying the game of soccer as closely as the real game.

When you score you really fight for it and it's not about doing the same play over and over to score multiple times you might try the same play and results won't be always the same.

I dodn't give the game 5 stars just because the graphics in the background specially when you score are like the original Play Station, but you can live with that when your fingers and mind are itching to play this game, because as games in the past it is adictive and when you get to score you enjoy it because it's exciting you put effort into it.

Also if you are into WE and now PES you know you don't get all licensed teams but that doesn't take anything away of the fun factor and gameplay, maybe on the over all experience.

And in case you are wondering I have played the FIFA 2008 demo sure it was impressive graphic wise, and the licensed teams but after 2 games I didn't want to know anythig else about it. In the end what are you looking for a nice game to watch or an adictive game to play? If you want licenses and stunning presentatio go with Fifa if you are craving for an addictive game then go with Pro Evolution.

I've been a PES/Winning 11 enthusiast since 1998, and this is the best iteration by far. Although the network play mode is major novelty, expect to have a poor experience when playing an opponent on the network just when you think your D cleared a ball in the goal area, the ball all of a sudden goes in the net.

It is certainly not perfect, and my expectations were a bit higher for the PS3 version. However, I will say it is still a good game for previous Winning Eleven (now PES 08) fans. The gap between FIFA and Winning Eleven is clearly narrowing, but I still give Winning Eleven the edge for sheer gameplay. One annoying thing is that replays suffer tremendously from slowdown. If you are the type to get bothered or angered by this, then don't bother with this game. Framerate drops are barely noticeable during gameplay as to affect my review.

Some things I hope Konami will update. Graphics. They are still behind EA in this department with respect to framerate and overall quality. Online connectivity. It sucks. I expect better from this console generation.

First of all, I have PS3 but I bought a PS2 version of the game. The online mode is lagging so bad. the player move around without your control. also, PS3 have less Stadium then PS2. If I not remember wrong. PS3 only have 10 stadium vs PS 2 35 Stadium. PS2 get the World Tour Mode, which PS3 doesn't have. Xbox 360 and PS3 has so many bug. go Google search PES 2008 bug. you will know what I am talking about here. Very Disappointed fans of WE series.

Some background on me: I am a very active fan of video games, purchasing probably at least two titles a month over the last two years, on average. I am also very familiar with Warhammer 40,000 universe. Some of you may be able to figure out from my 'real name' title, that I have some 'street cred' among the Warhammer 40,000 enthusiasts.

I have so far given Space Marine 4 stars, because I don't think it will fall below that. It is only release date + 2, and I have not fully experienced every aspect that Space Marine has to offer. I will update this over the next week or two as I complete it and venture into the online section.

Regarding game play, people are most likely going to compare this to Gears of War. In fact, despite the fact that Warhammer 40,000 has been around for 30 years, I have heard the term 'ripped-off' when describing this already. There are some similarities, to be sure. For one, you are in third person. You also have a combined use of gun-play and traditional hack'n'slash mechanics. You also tend to be vastly outnumbered.

Where Gears of War is a decidedly different game is the cover system (a la Kill.Switch, et al). I would have liked to see a cover system. In fact, playing a third person shooter without this mechanic today seems odd. My feelings are they did not include it because it would seem like too much of a direct 'rip-off' of Gears of War, there would probably be a lot of interesting clipping errors considering how bulky they are, or mostly like it just seems 'unheroic' for a marine to take cover. I would put my money on the last bit, given the early footage of the game, and the at one point even more idealized stance of marines laying down fire at distant enemies. The curious byproduct of this decision, though, is that you spend a lot of the game heroically shooting while you walk backwards. We will abstain from using the word retreat, if only for prideful reasons.

Curiously, this doesn't really hurt the game. You are fighting Orks, and they do not have a lot of guns that do a lot of damage or are threatening at range. For the most part, you can outgun them through most of the game. They most potent in hand-to-hand combat where they are individually 'not-so-bad' and can collectively destroy you in a hurry. I still kind of wish the cover system was there, as you will often find yourself walking/running to a big piece of cover to allow your regenerating armor to replenish itself.

The regenerating armor system works in an interesting way. You have basically 100% Armor and 100% health. Your armor will always regenerate to 100% if you have a period where you take no damage. Your health is only vulnerable (to most attacks) after the armor is depleted, so you could run around with 1 health the whole time, and as long as they never undid your regenerating armor, you would be fine. Hand to hand combat is important for regenerating life. Stunned enemies can be executed in epic-ly bloody manners, and this generates your health to some degree or fully, depending on the enemy. There is no real sensible way to justify this, but it is rather fun, and fitting to do these executions.

Gun play in the game is fun. I prefer to try to kill the Orks before they get to me, which is often quite challenging. I haven't run into any crazy or annoying stuff, or any enemies that are of the dumb, fun-killing persuasion.

Hack'n'slash mechanics are of a passable grade. There is nothing very special here. You basically can stun or you can attack. A little extra depth here would have been nice. We are living in an era post Batman Arkham Asylum, so you won't be playing this game purely for this sort of fun. The finishing moves are really what will probably entertain you the most.

The graphics are good. I would put them in the B+ range for today's games. There are shadows, dynamic lighting, a good draw distance, and no real slow-downs in game. If I were to nit pick, the blood textures could use some more definition. The character models are good. Basically, it seems pretty well polished, just nothing spectacular.

The sound is good for the game. Sound, basically, shouldn't distract you, and should help push you into the game a little further. Most of the Ork battle cries are predictable if not repetitive. I don't think that they have only 5 or 6 voice tracks. I think it has more to do with they simply don't have a lot of really profound things to add. There are nice things that show an attention to detail beyond just lets get it done from the occasional automated message meant for imperial citizens (ie: "Serve the Emperor by joining designated corpse removal crews. . .") or the way your bolter sounds different when you have 30 bolts in it versus when there are only 5 left like a real gun often will. The voice acting is pretty good too.

For those of you wondering how this fits into 40k in, I would say this game is not unfaithful to the universe. People may nitpick about the premise or the idea that an Ultramarine Captain would deviate from the Index Astartes, but looking at the marines, I think they are pretty well represented here. They come off as faithful, humble servants to the Imperium rather than a bunch of egomaniacs in iron man suits. The dialog is appropriate, just stilted/archaic enough to pass for the setting without being obnoxious. If I were to have made any changes, I'd probably have wanted it to be darker with a little less color, but even when the game is bright, it is still grim.

All in all, if you're a fan of this genre of video game this isn't a bad buy. It is fun, and I hope it has a lasting campaign. Like I said, I will update this review at least a one or two more times, but so far the critics seem to be right, its definitely not bad, and it may be the best Warhammer 40,000 game to date.

Other closing thoughts:

The Chainsword has never been so cool.

I still wish they'd make a game about someone other than the Ultramarines or the Blood Ravens.

-----------------------------------

Update: 9/12

I have beaten the game. The 8-12 hours is about correct probably. It is suitably challenging on normal, but not brutally difficult. I would say that I liked the writing, through-and-through. I can't say this about many games, and with regard to Warhammer, specifically, I have some strong opinions. I think they did a very good job getting this element right. That said, the ending isn't what a lot of people will love, but if you are familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 universe, it makes sense, even though its unlikely that it would happen to the Ultramarines. Most of the assertions I make above are still my opinion through the end of the game, though as you progress, the need for a cover system grows continuously as encounters become much more dangerous at range.

The multiplayer is kind of an interesting, but touchy suspect. I am not going to adjust this down from 4 stars, but if you are very much into multiplayer, there are some bugs that you will probably want worked out before you try--and I should emphasize try--to play Space Marine online. It is often very difficult to get into games. They tend to be short when you're in them. Maps are not very expansive, but there are smaller maps out there. The customization available seems amazingly and awesome. For the most part, only you will get to marvel at your creation because everything is happening so quickly, and I think a lot of people are going to wish they would enforce a color scheme on all players on the same side since you end up with a grab bag and sometimes its tough to tell who is on your team. This could also be rectified by always placing a red indicator over identified enemies or a menu option so that the computer would color the guys the same as your own guy locally and it would not need to effect the other players in game.

Being low level is very unforgiving as you get used to multiplayer. The ability to use the load-out and perks of the marine that killed you is an interesting balancing feature. I will predict this will not have great wide-stream lasting appeal on account of general dominance of assault marines, connection issues, the very limited number of maps, and the number of A-list games that are coming out in the next few months which will provide significant competition. This said, there are no other games where you can run around as a marine, so there will probably be someone online if they ever figure out the connection issues, and I am looking forward to see how 'Exterminatus,' the multiplayer coop horde mode, works out.

-----------------------------------

Update: 9/22

The recent patch has made finding a game much easier if you're interested to play this online. My previous statements about the multiplayer experience aside from this remain largely true. I still find this game to be fun to play online. I think a lot of that is just because I am a Warhammer 40,000 fan and there's no substitute for this game if you want to play as a Space Marine. This game's multiplayer is a peer-to-peer (P2P) system with no dedicated servers from THQ. Playing 8 on 8 on a P2P system is something that is generally not done on consoles or computers very often for a reason. There are inherent flaws that will hold back the multiplayer experience because of this. Lag is often that issue and when the host leaves the game, migrating everyone to a new host seems to work only 50% of the time at best. They do have future patch plans, so I will continue to update this as more information becomes available and the online experience changes.

To start off this game is just plain fun. It is a mix of close combat, and shooting. Anyone can pick it up and have a blast. It is perfect though for anybody that is a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe. I know being a hardcore fan I have always wanted to be an Astrates and just wreak havoc. You can definitely do this. The main campaign does a good job of doing this. There is plenty of action and the story could easily be from one of the 40k novels. The online modes are also a fresh of breath air in an industry that is being swamped with your typical first person shooters. I recommend this game to anyone and everyone that wants to be an unstoppable killing machine.

This happens to be the first game I've owned of the Warhammer 40k franchise, so when it comes to the lore, I am pretty much in the dark. I know War40k is an RTS game and Table-Top game, but it seems that Warhammer40k has come a long way, now spreading out into the action/shooter genre. Does this Space Marine have what it takes to survive the battle? Well let's find out!

GAMEPLAY

Warhammer40k: Space Marines (War40k from this point on), is a game that hits you with action the moment you start it up. There is very little in the way of downtime besides occasional dialog segments, or transitions into new areas. Right off the bat you will be fighting through masses of Orks to reach your object, picking up a variety of weapons along the way(gun and melee) as well as upgrades for these weapons.

The gameplay is very simplistic in War40k, almost too simple at times. You have the ability for ranged attacks using guns, and up close melee attacks with a variety of weapons that you can find throughout the campaign. When enemies get to close you can switch on the fly to your melee weapon of choice and start hacking away. Mix in your "stun" attack occasionally to initiate a variety of stun moves(single target, or AoE). When an enemy is stunned you can initiate a fatality move which produces plenty of blood, a nice death kill animation, as well as granting you health. An interesting, and refreshing way to regenerate your health I think.

Not all is good with this setup though. While the gameplay is fun, there is little variety to it. Within 3-4 hours you will begin to notice that despite a change of melee weapon or switching between guns; you really don't have as much freedom as one might think. Combat is repetitive, though satisfying. Another problem is the lack of a cover system. Taking heavy fire? Only thing you can do is walk behind cover and stand there until it is clear to strafe out. If anything the lack of a cover system hurts the shooting element of the game since intense firefights turn into scrambles to walk behind a box that is as tall as you. Overall the gameplay is enjoyable yet repetitive, but not repetitive enough to turn you off to the game.

GRAPHICS

Graphically this game looks alright. There isn't much in the way of impressive visuals, other than those nice gory fatality moves, but it doesn't really impact the game at all. No frame rate problems or oddities, though it was funny seeing mobs occasionally explode and instantly vanish upon death, rather than a corpse dropping to the ground for a second or two. I'm sure this was done because of the vast # of orks that show up on the screen sometimes. Overall the game is not all that graphically impressive but it does enough to make the trip enjoyable.

SOUND/STORY

Voice acting I found to be pretty good. There was clearly some good effort put into the voices of the characters and logs you find, plus the Orks sound really awesome I think. They remind me a little of the Lord of the Rings Uruk Hai sometimes. Weapon effects sound satisfying and have a good punch to them. As for the storyline, it is honestly hard for me to truly comment on. Being my first Warhammer40k title, it feels like being tossed into season 5 of a 10 season Drama on TV. After a while you pick up the gist of things yet still feel a bit confused. The story flushes out well, and deals with your character, Captain Titus, leading an assault to prevent an Ork invasion from stealing a Battle Titan.

REPLAY/LENGTH

War40k will be at least a good 8-10 hour adventure. The game is broken up into 17 chapters spread out amongst 5 parts. Throw in hidden logs, multiplayer and Co-Op(see below) fans of the genre and gameplay style will have plenty to keep themselves occupied with.

** CO-OP will be added about a month after launch and will be free to those who purchase the game (activate their MP pass). From the looks of it, the Co-Op being given out is going to be similar to a horde mode for up to 5 players.

OVERALL 82% (8.2 / B-)

War40k is a good game. It isn't a great game, nor does it try to be a great game. It does exactly what it was intending to do, and that is bring the Warhammer40k universe into a new genre of game. For a first crack at a shooter/hack and slash action game; Relic did a pretty good job I think. While all the elements included in War40k are not 5 star material, they come together nicely making for an enjoyable game that even a noob to the Warhammer franchise (like myself) will have no major problems figuring out what is going on.

Despite some repetitive gameplay; a simple yet fun Multi-player element and the addition of some form of Co-Op, free of charge, help boost War40k into being a game that is worth the purchase if you are a fan of the genre or gameplay style. Repetitive gameplay aside, it can be a lot of fun tearing up waves of orks! 4 stars!

**NOTE: Co-Op will be included in an update slated for October 25th. It will contain 2 maps.. 4 player Co-Op... where you will battle against Ork's or Chaos.

**NOTE: 9/22 Patch released to resolve MP problems for PS3 users. Matchmaking and lag problems have been resolved (finally!)

This game is really a lot of fun. The mix of melee plus ranged combat stands out from the crowd of shooter games. It has the intensity of a zombie game where you hear / see a horde of enemies headed your way, but also gives you some unique challenges. At times you have a horde of orks bearing down on you plus some orks firing ranged weapons at you. This game may well be a sleeper hit, especially amongst a sea of same old, same old shooters that are all about the same.

I enjoy games like Dawn of War, the older Age of ... games, Warcraft, etc. I couldn't pass this game up knowing that it is part of the Warhammer universe. While there is nothing new here, it is a fun diversion while waiting for something bigger to come along.

The game feels similar to the Gear of War layout. You play with an over-the-shoulder view and charge down linear paths obliterating everything in your way. Unlike Gears, SpaceMarine has no duck-and-cover system. You are constantly in the open and vulnerable to attack increasing the challenge of the game. While I have heard of some people not agreeing with this system, it seems appropriate to me. SpaceMarines are proud, honorable machines. They charge in and annihilate, not hide and wait.

The game is decent in length probably lasting around 6-8 hours. Considering the game style this is average. There really is little to no replay value.

If you're a fan of hack and slack, run and gun, fast paced games I would recommend checking this out. As said before, there's nothing new here but it is a cheap and fun game while you wait for something else to come along.

The bag isn't very sturdy and it doesnt have much padding. I didnt want to take a chance traveling with my PS3 in this cheaply made bag. I had a feeling that the price for this bag was too good to be true. The PS3 Backpack isnt much of an alternative either because it is overpriced and it doesnt offer much better quality. I returned the bag to Amazon for a refund. I finally bought a nice sturdy military style messenger laptop bag to transport my PS3 with sturdy handles and a strong shoulder strap. This worked out perfectly for my trip. It was nice to not have to worry about whether the handles or strap would tear off or break.

Purchase the back pack for PS3 instead of the Multi Function Carry Bag. This bag is not sturdy enough for the weight of the PS3 game maachine. We are on our second bag, but only because we didn't see the backpack before purchasing this one.

I would not recommend this bag. One star is too much for the bag.

Would like to return this one.

No peeling. No fading. No wearing of the decal. Even on the controllers. At all. I'm serious. Just got up and looked at it to make sure I wasn't full of crap. Was pretty easy to install, just have to take special care not to allow air bubbles. If you get one that is kind of stubborn, get a needle and poke a really small hole in the middle of the air bubble and press the air out. PS3 was a used one and had a scratch across the top. Not any more. Still looks brand new. It says that the sticker will come off without damaging the skin of the console but I find that hard to believe, just simply because of how well it has stuck all these years, although I cannot speak to that since I will never take the decal off. I love it that much. If you want a skin for your console, these are the guys to get it from.

Our ps3 has a lot of dings and scratches so getting a skin seemed like the best idea. These applicators I have used before and they are a great quality and thickness to prevent further injury to the device. I loved that it came with decals for the controllers too so we put them on our two most reliable controllers. On that note, it would be nice to see maybe just controller decal replacements if the controllers die and the adhesives don't transfer, but the main decal on the ps3 unit doesn't peel, crack, or bubble. Good enough for me!

A confession from me, first. I rather enjoyed F1 2010, and liked the experience despite some very sizable flaws and a borderline sense of being underwhelmed. That said, F1 2011 improves upon it in every measurable way. As a 'sequel', it far surpasses. Still 12 teams, 19 tracks, same top speeds of nearly 220mph, but the impact on the senses is much more enjoyable.

Some of this has to do with the sport itself-The rules in F1 itself have changed significantly this year, with 2 particular elements that a new player might well think was added just for the video game and could never really exist on the cars! Whereas the previous iteration was mostly "point and drive", this year we welcome 2 odd acronyms... names aren't important, but what is noteworthy is that they're both used as enhancements to the car that the player has control over. "KERS" is a small power boost allowed a certain amount per lap, and "DRS" allows higher speeds in a straight line. Sneaky, yes? Well, they've made the races of the real sport much more exciting, and it's great to see it reflected in the game.

The in-car HUD has gone through a total overhaul and is now very slick . Split times are always up and they've been color coded the same way the official F1 timing system uses them so that they're visually distinct. The pop-up info screen for tyres and damage has an awesome new tab-a short list giving you vitals such as when you expect to pit next, and expected exit position back on the track if you were to stop now. Since the sport requires players to change tyres in all races at least once, it saves a whole ton of thinking and lets anyone understand what the "big picture" for the race is. In the real sport, entire crews on the pit wall try to think this out to best help their position, so this is a godsend to have handed to you.

Sound like a bit much? You'll be glad to know that in the game's career mode, players are slowly shown more and more features so it's easy to learn each bit of the car. For example... didn't know that you have 4 types adding up to 17 sets of tyres for each race weekend? At career start on lower difficulty it's left out. AI seems to have an overhaul from last year-the drivers are smarter (less likely to run into you), difficulty is much more linear, career objectives are completely reasonable and are fulfilling to accomplish.

Graphics and sound are quite unchanged, but this isn't all bad. The Ego graphics engine is starting to show its age yet gets the job done. For unknown reasons, rain effects look less realistic, but I'll call it even for the import of each car's very unique exhaust note.

The main thing that holds back F1 2011 and I guess the series on the whole now is a lack of explanation to the player about all the specific (and often unconventional) rules the sport has and all the mechanical bits one can adjust. At the same time, it's not a high enough level of detail to please true simulator fans. The "quick tune" feature is abysmal even for racing against low difficulty AI, and unless you know the ins and outs of tuning from other racing games, you'll be looking up some terms. Actually, a "complaint" I had from last year is back-it's a game where reading the instruction manual is practically required, and without it even some of the basic game vocabulary will sound like gibberish.

In summary, there's a thrilling driving experience to be had which makes the game a totally different (and better) play from last year, and a lot of issues have been ironed out. Although there are no real glaring weaknesses, one still gets the feeling that the game doesn't quite feel complete... that there's just a little more in every area that a truly great game would have. It's a rare instance where an "annual installment" is a truly different (and better) experience... and is bendable enough for people who plan to put a few dozen or few hundred hours into it.

Note to renters and used purchases-The multiplayer features have a DRM feature, where the game is shipped with one code to unlock those features. Assuming it's been used already, accessing it will cost $9.99 via PSN. It does not have any effect on single player modes. This doesn't matter much to me personally, but I figure it worth mentioning so that no one ends up surprised.

UPDATE: After playing through 3 full seasons, I'm left very impressed with the AI difficulty scale. On "Professional" (one from the setting for hardcore players) the AI cranks out qualifying times and fastest laps within about a second of what the actual cars have managed on-track during this season. Better still, cars from each team have strengths and weaknesses that their non-virtual counterparts tend to have. Still could use a tutorial on DRS and KERS, though, and a terminology seminar. Something so that the phrase "I'm purple in sectors 2 and 3 after ricking a change to scrub options early from inters while on mix 3 to try to close the gap before the first activation zone" makes sense to you and can float around in your head at least a little. A few other minor gripes, but I stick with my bottom line from the original review.

F1 2011 is here and it is a great step forward in the codemasters handling of a much beloved and intricate sport, but there are some caveats. Outside of the actual races, career mode is still a tad dull, it has been streamlined a little so answering reporters questions has a far more noticeable effect on you and your team, but overall it's nothing special...until you get to a race. Here things really start to shine, physics HAS been improved, there is a sense of weight and mass to cars that was a little off in 2010, cars feel less like friction less rockets and more like the grippy super cars they are. Your car will bounce and bob and is overall a better driving experience over last year. More surprisingly the AI is improved, it's hard this early to say where it's better, except that now AI opponents defend position, look for advantages when attacking yours, and basically are a real threat. On hardest difficulty it's a real nightmare, so much so that I don't think it can be played without a wheel setup if you're playing with no assists.

To me F1 is all about strategy, and what's so great about this game is that you feel like that the only way to win is to have a competent strategy for each track and any of it's given weather conditions, and of course a fuel and tire strategy that will have you staying in the race, oh and the the new addition of the pace car only adds a layer. KERS is here and it's something I'm learning to use, but I like it and DRS is also added. KERS is a one lap use while DRS is useable anytime, with some exceptions.

Praises for the game aside not everything is perfect, the graphics are better but only ever so slightly and only on specific things, your car looks awesome, and when you race in cockpit view you actually see yourself hitting buttons and twisting knobs on your steering wheel while racing, this is all done on each teams custom wheel, no more generic cockpits! Weather effects look better too and really scare the $&@% out of you when racing. Tracks look ok, but they could be a little sharper, and why do we still get those rearview mirrors that display things in SNES graphics quality? It something that I was hoping would be fixed, but it's still here...

Multiplayer is more or less unchanged but the real highlight is the team racing, now you play with a buddy on the same team, and it's as fun as you can imagine, both working together to best everyone one else while simultaneously trying to beat each other, it's so good and so integral and basic to f1 racing I'm surprised it wasn't in last years game. In the end F1 is a niche game, if you are unfamiliar with the sport or think it's like Dirt or even Forza and GT5 this game will destroy any silly ideas you think you have of racing, it will humble you and make you adapt. Overall 8.5/10, it's a great game, most likely the best racing game on any console, (before I get flamed, while gt5 and Forza are great they are more car game then racing game).

In closing if you own f1 2010 then you owe it to yourself to pick up this game, if your interested in racing or the sport itself, buy the game, turn on all the assists and have fun, the start slowly ratcheting up the difficulty, you won't be disappointed. To everyone else, come check out the most exhilarating racing game around!

im not the worlds biggest f1 fan but i do like auto racing and follow most... so anyways... i will judge this game based on NASCAR 2011 the game and from f1 2010

this game BLOWS AWAY NASCAR the game 2011 in every possible way... at first this game got me so mad because i picked the second hardest difficulty and limited assists and i couldn't complete a turn, unlike nascar i can put it on very hard and go from worst to first in about 2 corners... but then i thought hey its is actually fun, i actually have a challenge in a racing video game!

career

really havent got into the f1 career but if its anything like last year its 10xxx better than NASCAR... in nascar i put it on hard and won all the pole and races... not a challenge at all

multiplayer

this is the biggest for me... on nascar you pick a driver and go racing with no season or anything... but in f1 they finally have split screen, which is a blast! Me and my brother were teammates and had a great battle in the points. its such a positive to have split screen in racing games but the season makes it worth something...

once again f1 has beautiful graphics and realistic car handling and damage... not the case in nascar where the graphics are ok and the damage looks so fake and the cars drive like they are on ice... at first on f1 i could not turn the car, because they actually were driving like a real f1 race car and not like a car on ice... also KERS and DRS are in the game and only on the teams that really have it.

i don't do online racing games because i feel that everyone is a poor sport and is only out there to wreck you so i have no comment on the online part of the game...

overall if you are somebody that is a nascar fan and wants to play a racing game that is not a glitch filled disaster... this game is for you... its miles ahead of nascar and has so much more to offer and is just about perfect in replicating f1 racing in all aspects... (hopefully codemasters gets a nascar license because if this is what nascar would be like i would pay double for it, im not kidding either nascar 2011 the game is that bad)

also if you are on the fence about this game trust me get it, it is worth it a great racing game

The graphics and the frame rate on the PS3 version are BAD--much worse than the 360 version. The frame rate clearly drops to 20fps or possibly less at points, and the entire game runs at barely 30fps, if that. The official forums are full of angry PS3 users, with many saying that the game gives them eye fatigue and/or headaches. I can personally say that trying to see what's happening on the screen at 150mph as frames flash by at such a low rate hurts my eyes as well, and I have no desire to play the game now. If you want this game (and it IS very good otherwise), either buy it for another platform or wait to see IF they decide to fix the PS3 version.

It's a major racing game, like the other racing series (dirt, grid) developed by codemasters. Excelent simulation of the tracks, the cars and the F1 race physics. I recomend 100% for gamers wich enjoy grandprix style races.

I'd first like to say that I have played through the whole game, unlike the reviewers before me. I'd also like to mention that this is very much a JRPG (linear-style, turn based role-playing game), so if that's not your cup of tea, you might want to give this title a pass.

That aside, Enchanted Arms is a worthy opening act for traditional RPGs on the PS3. The graphics are pretty good, though hardly ambitious. The quality of the cinematic sequences are likely to give Square-Enix a run for their money. Thankfully, the game gives the user a choice between the English voice acting and the original Japanese (most English redubs are fairly poor, and this game is no exception). But what people really care about in a JRPG is characters, plot, and combat.

The characters start off as nothing special. In fact, they are stereotypes through and through. A few past reviews were exceptionally turned off by a lesser character during the opening and tutorials; that character quickly leaves the plot, but I happened to find his antics amusing (and opening the game with a homosexual character is quite progressive in my opinion). The story is fairly generic to start off, but develops a subtle complexity that is actually quite refreshing when compared to the epic plots of the Final Fantasy series. This, I think, helps the character development some, as any development (particularly in the case of Atsuma, the protagonist) is surprising. Even without Atsuma's torturous inner struggles/demons, the other characters still play an active role and are far more three-dimensional than the game would have you initially believe. Combat has been built from the ground up, and the result is a unique experience. It combines the elements of strategy RPGs in the vein of Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics, with the simple turn-based elements of traditional JRPGs. In addition to your natural party, you can build a team of golems (monsters, essentially) to assist in combat. The mix of strategy and action helps this game stand on its own amongst the competition.

I for one think that this title doesn't get nearly the amount of respect it deserves. If you enjoy a classic RPG, check this game out. If you can't be patient for an hour and let the game develop, it's certainly not for you.

This game is no work of art. It looks like a PS2 title.

That said, the game is a lot of fun. The dialogue is awful, which the english voice cast obviously recognized because the whole thing is tongue-in-cheek. The game constantly parodies itself and its genre (other JRPGs). It's not just the dub cast the "great martial arts master" that the group eventually seeks out is... a hippy. The "mysterious stranger" character is just another character wearing sunglasses, yet no one recognizes him.

The entire game is stupid-funny. It's a wonderful romp through silliness that offers the player little but... fun.

As far as complaints and game mechanics, well, the programers did screw up in a few places (hence the four stars). Combat is WAY too slow the "fast forward" button speeds the attacks up to what should have been the standard speed. Also, with such a small "game board" in which combat takes place, it sometimes makes it difficult to move.

That said, I'm not sure why people had such a problem with the rest of it. The strategy element is very well done, with attacks demonstrating their area of effect to the play when chosen. The golem-collecting sidequests are mildly pointless, but mostly serve to fill in for absent party members during plot moments, since anyone not using the four PCs for every single battle is wasting resources.

Oh, and the "dancing" to refill your super moves yes, it is absoutely awful. That's why it's so much fun. In any given dungeon, you can unload your most powerful super moves effectively cost-free if you don't mind doing some awful 70s disco dancing between battles. It is one of the funniest parts of the game, and is worth it just for the hallarious stupidity of disco-dancing in the middle of a dungeon. Also, for the record, attacking an enemy and taking damage also fills the meter, so if you just fight random battles and never dance you will eventually end up walking around with a full meter anyway. But why wouldn't you want to dance?

I think that addressed most of the criticisms I've read. If you want a serious FF style title, this probably isn't the game for you. If you want an uproariously funny PARODY of a FF game, full of stupidly funny game-play elements, characters, and plot, then you could do worse than Enchanted Arms.

As soon as I put the game in my PS3 I thought, "Oh God, all the reviews I read about this game are right..." and I kept playing the game and I was right. What surprised me was how much fun I had playing this game despite its many flaws. I definitely wouldn't have paid full price, but believe it or not this IS a surprisingly fun game if you are a JRPG fan, and at 20 bucks you really can't go wrong.

The main thing that Enchanted Arms is guilty of is having a slow intro and an obnoxious character. I found myself frowning for the first 1-2 hours of this game, but then enjoyed it greatly after that. The majority of the poor ratings this game has gotten come from people who played it 15-30 minutes. Don't trust those reviews.

Graphics Graphics are mediocre for next-gen, but look good if you are coming from a PS2.

Sound Decent voice acting for the most part, typical RPG music fare.

Gameplay Deep battle system requires much thought and planning, each individual battle feels like a fast paced Tactics battle. I recommend this game based on gameplay and battle systme alone.

Is this game great? Probably not. But for 20$ it fills the gap of RPG's that the next-gen systems are currently feeling.

I actually enjoyed this game. The storyline was pretty deep and interesting. The battle system had a lot of faults but what game in the rpg world has been perfect. There is a lot to do in this game and although many people are complaining about the back tracking, I remember the days when we had no choice but to backtrack. I think the back tracking is sometimes really good for building up your characters levels. I will say some of the bosses are extremely difficult, but if you train your characters to a level above what it is suppose to be, you will be fine. If anyone is a fan of rpg's, then I believe you will appreciate this one. It's not the best, but it is certainly not the worse.
