I will start this review by saying that I did indeed play the first Darksiders, but will not make this a comparison between the 2 in any way.

Story: The story for the game is more of a backdrop for the great level design and combat to playout in a meaningful way than it is a driving force for the game. Essentially, Death has to clear the name of his brother War (from DS1) and sets off to do so but before long is wrapped up in a larger story involving the Makers. Suffice it to say the story is there but nothing too great, though Death has some funny quips (like telling a crow to be quiet..) as he has a sarcastic tone throughout the game, and the game does allow you some dialogue choices as you interact with NPCs. These NPCs serve as trainers for your new combos, weapon and item dealers, and obviously they provide you your quests and sidequests that propel the game forward.

Graphics: The graphics in this game have a wide range. From beautiful to meh depending on your location. You will notice bland textures, and muddied walls in certain areas but will also see great dungeons and large bosses that push the consoles, but never quite to the edge. The game in motion is spectatcular though. Death has great animations, and every combo you unlock looks a little different as Death has realistic movements that keep you glued to your screen amidst the fighting chaos. I have heard of some slowdown in the game but truthfully have noticed hardly any, so don't let that dissuade you from picking up this gem.

Gameplay: OKAY, this is where Darksiders brings the metaphorical hammer down. Talk about infusing so many elements together in one game! Darksiders "borrows" ideas from many different games, including: Zelda (the dungeons, horse exploration, Z targeting), God of War (frantic combat based on combos and timing), Prince of Persia (smooth platforming that becomes second nature after a few hours), Diablo (tons of loot to collect and equip) and even a little Assasin's Creed (verticality) and Shadow of the Collossus (larger than life bosses). This game is like the ultimate dutch oven of video game ideas blended in a way that never feels like it rips any one game off, but rather pays homage to the brilliant ideas that have come before it. Like "Z" targeting from Zelda where you can lock on to one enemy and easily flick the right stick to shift your focus from one enemy to the next. Or wall-running from PoP that gives Death a fleet of foot feel versus his bulkier brother. But the game makes its milk in the combat. Thrashing multiple enemies just plain feels right on as a bringer of the Apocalypse. The combo timing takes a little bit to get used to, but once you do you can pull off so many different moves (on ground and in air) that you will be stomping through hordes of enemies in no time. And the BOSSES! Wow, the developers really love huge bosses, and won't hesitate to throw back to back mini bosses at you where most games have one, a cutscene, and then right on to the main boss. The main bosses are a marvel, and will rival the colossi from SotC in size and scope. Defeating them feels very "Zelda" like as you utilize a new item you gained to defeat them. No spoilers here, so sorry no examples are being given of these great battles, you should expereince them for yourself. Death also has branching skill trees which start with a few core skills (a teleport slash, summoning minions to help you fight, etc.) and expands into a very customizeable spectrum that begs experimentation (you can re-spec Death at any time to try out new skills you may not have originally chosen). The combat is so satisfying you will find yourself just itching for the next fight to show off that new combo or weapon. Speaking of weapons...

Customization: I believe this belongs in its own category as adding a true loot-based rpg system to the franchise was a genious move. Death is a totally Bada$$ character, and a beast of that magnitude deserves some bada$$ equipment. Not 5 minutes will go by in this game without you finding a new piece of armor, weapon, secondary weapon, or amulet to deck out Death how you see fit depending on the character you'd like to play. Want a Death built with pure speed? Equip a pair of lightning fast gauntlets as your second weapon to throw more punches in a second than Pacquiao throws in an entire fight. Want to do brutal amounts of damage in one swing? Equip a giant axe or hammer to demolish your foes while sacrificing some of that speed. The level of customization is great, and adds to the gameplay. An example: I picked up an "Axe of Rending," which restores your health partially but only when you execute enemies with it, so I immediately found myslef considering the situation before using it: Is my health low? Better beat those enemies close to death then bust out the axe to get that health boost before moving on. What's better is that every piece of equipment looks different and immediately affects the look of Death. Even better still is that THQ instituted a great system that allows you to pick up equipment, or even equip it immediately right in the field. The intensity of the battles is great, so in the midst of a battle I can be fighting 5 enemies, one drops a new weapon (that can immediately be compared to what I have equipped on screen), I roll over to it, hold select to equip it in game, then BAM right back into the battle with my new scythes equipped without missing a beat. More games need this type of system.

The Negatives: I'm not going to sit here and say DS2 is a "perfect" game, it has some hiccups, but they are diminutive in nature. Sometimes when scaling a wall, in order to climb up, you have to be in the middle of the rail, if you are off a little to the right or left, Death will jump straight up instead of climbing, basically the game thinks there is nothing above him to grab, even though there is. You move right a centimeter and then it kicks in and recognizes the ledge. It will happen a few times to everyone that plays, but again it's minor. For it being an "open-world" game, there isn't a ton do in said open-world. You will ride around on your horse to get from one location to the other, but aside from a few "hidden" chests (they show up on the map) or a random scalable building, the open world mostly serves as your mechanism for travel and little else. Also, they did not do a great job of showing what Death can and can't climb, meaning he can scurry 15ft up a wall, but can't jump up onto a 5 foot ledge. Once you realize this it does not affect you in anyway, but it's funny to see him wall run and acrobatically swing from post to post, but can't jump up a 5 foot block. Again, all these issues are minor and in no way detract from the overall experience, which is an absolute blast.

Closing: By now you probably want the "should I buy it or not" answer, and I will say YES absolutely everyone should experience this game. If you like adventure, puzzle solving, great dungeons and finely tuned combat wrapped in a replayable package, this game is for you. It even tracks tons of statistics for you (best combo, most damage, a TON of things) that get posted to leaderboards so you can compare against your friends. You can even gift items to your friends! I will say, please avoid the IGN review of this game as the clear bias of it baffles me. As of now, they are the only reviewer to give this game less than an 80, and as an avid gamer and review reader will openly say they got it wrong. Read or watch any other review and you will see nothing but admiration for this title. It was a long time coming, but THQ finally has a game that fits the hardcore mold, and Darksiders 2 is the perfect game to pick up now and dive into before the fall / year end bonanza of games come out. Go get it now!

Let me begin by saying I've never written a review for a game regardless of how strong I feel abou it. I would of written one for Batman Arkham City, but enough fans and critics gave the game the credit it deserved--Reviews are to help potential buyers make a choice after all. With the lack of user reviews so far about this game, I felt I should include one. I've only been playing now for about 3 hours, and I will say without a doubt, it is the best game of 2012....If Batman hadn't come out last year, I would say for the last 2 years! Most reviews are saying if you liked the first one, give this one a try--This obviously being true, even if you couldn't get into the first one, or didn't play it, this game will change your mind about the franchise. Its is much more fluid and responsive than its predecessor.

The "look and feel" of the game is taken straight from The Legend Of Zelda....Dare, I even say improves on it, as the combat is taken from God of War (which is a lot more exciting than Link's combat styles). That combined with the fact that the visuals are as though were taken from Lord of the RIngs coupled with the amazing score....'EPIC' is all I can take out of this game. One of the finest action/adventures I've played....and I'm just beginning.....

FOR BETTER:

---------------

Darksiders 2 is an impressive follow up to THQ and Vigil's apocaplyptic journey. Even if you never played the original, don't have any reservations about picking up the sequel. Death is an extraordinary character: well-acted, well-animated, enigmatic and engaging.

In this installment we take on the guise of War's brother Death, one of the four horsemen, who has undertaken a quest to absolve his brother from the punishment of the Charred Council for destroying humanity. Realizing that his brother had been framed, Death vows to do whatever is necessary to restore the balance between angels and demons.

Like its predecessor, Darksiders 2 does an EXTRAORDINARY job of pulling concepts from other licenses and making them feel original within a common theme (the battle between Heaven and Hell at the End of Days). This time around the primary draw is Ubisoft's 2008 Prince of Persia. Death will perform wall runs, extended climbs and other free-running tactics that are visually identical to the unnamed Prince. Yet despite references to other genres and titles (Portal, Shadows of the Damned, Legend of Zelda, God of War, Devil May Cry, etc.) Darksiders 2 manages to move beyond the driving concepts to deliver a wholly unique experience. From background art, puzzle implementation and narrative framework Darksiders 2 manages to mold its own identity by successfully working RPG elements into a visually striking hack-and-slash world.

This time around Death can choose between his primary weapon (scythes) set to the [] button, and a secondary weapon (armblades, gauntlets, hammers, axes, glaives, and claws) which is set to the /\ button. Attack combinations can be purchased by trainers, and are easy to execute during battle. Although most sequences are little more than a mix of both buttons with pauses between inputs, the simple commands belie Death's flashy and intense moveset. There are an extraordinary number of different weapons to find, each with their own perks (damage types, stat bonuses, exp. increases etc.) that can radically change your playing style. In addition, these weapons are found based upon your character's current level and come in increasing rarity: white common, green uncommon, blue rare, purple unique, and gold legendary. The most interesting addition are "possessed weapons" which can be upgraded by "feeding" other items to them. These weapons can be enhanced a set number of times before reaching their maximum potential by taking on the attributes of the weapons and armor that are fed to them. With each new progression you have the option to choose a perk that will subsequently improve with further item leveling. In most cases a fully upgraded possessed weapon will be better than a similar level unique or rare one. In all cases combat is visceral, fast paced and exciting.

Armor is likewise found in differing rarities, although there are no legendary or possessed pieces of armor. Based upon the attributes you use with your playing style, your version of Death may greatly vary from your friend's. Both weapons and armor can also drastically improve the effectiveness of skills chosen from the Harbinger and Necromancer skill trees. Although the diversity is not as great as in a game like Dragon Age it is still enough to keep your character evolving throughout the duration of your playthrough. The best part is that the demon merchant Vulgrim can respec your character for a very low fee, so you can try any other skill combinations at your leisure.

FOR WORSE:

--------------

Despite all of my praises, Darksiders 2 is not without faults. It pains me to list them, because I TRULY LOVE the direction of the game. The real problem that keeps it from becoming a masterpiece is overambition and not enough time to see it through. Darksiders 2 makes multiple trade-offs from the original and unfortunately not always for the better.

Graphically the sequel takes a hit in texturing and even character modeling. Things are not quite as smooth as the first time around, and you will notice some "near-polygonal" edges on some of the characters. When swimming or in confined areas walls look bland and occasionally dip to PS2 quality. Fortunately this is not the norm, and most vistas are gorgeous and stunning. Despite some pixellation when viewing further draw distances, the artistic design and bold coloration of the sequel TRULY save the day.

When I first started playing Darksiders 2 I was blown away by the sweeping orchestral movement and striking vista of a foreboding icy fortress. In retrospect, I feel this cathartic moment at the game's onset might have set the bar a little "too" high for the rest of the game. After 35 hours, I can safely say that both the narrative and bosses take a back-seat to those in Darksiders 1. All too often the story is revealed via comic book style cutscenes, rather than full out CGI. There are also not very many moments that ramp up emotionally or deliver sweeping orchestral keynotes like the first game. Although there is an attempt to tie in to War's tale, Death's episodic journey also seems to be much more flash and less substance. He has relatively clear motivations for why he is going somewhere, but the enemies and challenges he faces are more often typical RPG fare than the "ultimate battles" faced by his brother. Prepare for a lot of fetch quests set between largely open areas (Unlimited quick travel saves the day!). There are also more dungeons, but less differentiation between areas in a similar zone. Dungeons are also MUCH smaller, and require less coordination or logic when choosing between various tools. In addition, because of the revamped combat system the enemies and bosses are more like those found in God of War/Devil May Cry than Legend of Zelda. These are no longer "puzzle bosses," but more hack-and-slash.

Yet most of these issues are a matter of creative opinion, if not the results of time constraints. The real commonplace issues are the small bugs and technical flaws you will find along the way. I had to hard restart my PS3 8 times while playing Darksiders 2. Several of these were due to complete freezes during combat or platforming, but even worse were the several "almost" game-breaking glitches. Thank God the developers had the intelligence to insert fail-safes when a save was reloaded from initial start-up.

1.)I had a NPC who was supposed to carry a heartstone for me get stuck on a door, and I could not get him to pick it up until I restarted the system. Thankfully it reset the heartstone to a point where I only had to complete a small portion of the dungeon, and the character did not get stuck again.

2.)I had the audio completely cut out when speaking to the Lord of Bone. I had to do a hard restart and erase my dungeon waypoints to get it to trigger properly.

3.)I completed several Forge Land dungeons later in the game and was not able to recover a special item required for an earlier quest.

4.)A contextual button that was supposed to appear and allow me to place a lantern on a statue would not trigger. This was the first time said puzzle was used. Thankfully, I understood the level design and realized that something was supposed to happen here. The button prompt allowing me to progress through the dungeon only appeared after shutting down and restarting the PS3.

5.)One of the primary bosses known as "the Wailing Host" froze mid-strike for about 20 seconds with its health bar half depleted. During this time Death was still able to circle around the battle arena and attack as normal (further reducing the boss's health bar). However, the boss became invincible after the temporary freeze and would not die when its health reached zero. This is because the battle is actually punctuated by several button prompt actions that were not triggered after the glitch. This was the only major glitch that inexplicably resolved itself without having to fully restart the PS3, BUT I had to restart the boss battle from a checkpoint three times before it was fixed.

NO GAME MANUAL:

----------------------

THQ also decided to cut down on cost by NOT including a physical game manual. They didn't even include an in-game manual like the one in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Instead, they give you a web address for finding the contents online. This wouldn't be a terrible problem, but many of the finer details regarding collectables, locating/setting quests, and the HUD are not directly explained. Be prepared to do a few internet searches before fully understanding the game.

TIL DEATH DO US PART (Summary):

------------------------------------

I wish Darksiders 2 had more CGI, better music, a more focused narrative and more/bigger boss battles. Yet when all is said and done it is still an EXCELLENT addition to the franchise. I feel that the pressure to release the game by mid-August after an initial delay hampered the artistic and technical design of the game. THQ's president even released a statement saying two things:

1.)The game had to release this summer because he felt it could not compete with games like Assassin's Creed 3 and Call of Duty. Obviously this drove the decision to cut out the more difficult to develop aspects like full CGI.

2.)If Darksiders 2 fails to perform up to sales expectations, he will reallocate all of Vigil's staff to other games, effectively ending the series before it really had a chance to take off.

So, Death's journey may not be a perfect one. It might not even be quite as good as his brother's before him. HOWEVER, it is still a journey worth taking in every sense. Breathtaking landscapes, multitudes of loot, New Game +, hundreds of collectables, memorable characters and stellar voice acting await.

If you have any interest whatsoever in the material or genres that Darksiders 2 represents do yourself a favor and purchase both Darksiders 1 and 2. Keep the series alive and give Vigil the chance to craft a truly epic game in Darksiders 3. I spent 35 hours trying to find out what happens next, and I feel Vigil deserves the chance to tell me.

THQ, Let's see this war through to the end!

(8.5/10)

I have liked this game a lot!

It's similar to Darksiders 1 in terms of the history, characters, dungeons and enemies. But, it differs a lot to Darksiders 1 in:

* This game is a lot more RPG, there are other characters that give you missions, you collect gear like boots, gauntlets, and weapons, and you choose which to use to boost your abilities (magic, strength, health, wrath, etc).

* It's far less linear than DarkSiders 1, with a lot of optional dungeons that you choose to do only if you want to complete a side-quest, there are also optional-bosses that give you rewards for beating them but are not essential to the game history.

* The bosses are a lot harder (Apocalyptic mode), very much like Silitha in the first game

* You can create your own weapons by getting something called a "Possessed Weapon" and feeding it with lower-level weapons, those "sacrifices" make the possessed weapon stronger. You can choose to certain degree which qualities of the sacrificed weapons are inherited by the possessed, thus tailoring the weapon to your needs.

If you liked the first game I recommend playing this one, and if you like RPG that would be one more reason.

In total you'll need some 30-40 hours to finish this game, and 50 to platinum (it's not a difficult platinum but it's time consuming). If you buy the Limited Edition it comes with the "Crucible Pass" which is needed for 2 of the trophies, if you don't have it you can buy it from PSN Store.

The game features a DLC called "Argul's Tomb" that adds 2 more dungeons to the game, the dungeons are not difficult and the DLC can be beaten in 1 hour. This DLC is visually appealing and the final boss is ... great :) and hard even when you are at level 25.

After having worked directly with the customer service folks at THQ and having posted asking for help on their forums, and now having waited more than two weeks, I feel I should share a comment with the Amazon review community.

First off, this game is amazing. The graphics, gameplay, sound, acting...all of it...It's just awesome.

Unfortunately, there is a bug that causes some players (others have reported the same issue) to not receive a mission critical item (the Soul Splitter) and prevent the game from progressing.

THQ's response has been to restart and try again. Since they have opted for a save system that does not allow you to go back a short time in your progress, you are left with no option other than to simply start over and ___hope___ you don't get the same error. No fix, no help...just cross your fingers.

Well, after 25+ hours invested and no way to know if the exact same thing would happen again, I am now going to have to just eat the $60 I spent on the game. It's not like you can get your money back.

The truth is, I don't really want my money back. I want a solution so that I can pick up the action from where I got stuck and keep playing.

Anyway, if you are willing to roll the dice, then go ahead and play this otherwise amazing game. If, however you are like me and think that a company should not profit from selling _known defective goods and refusing to fix them_ then stay away from this and all THQ games (I was looking at Saints Row next...not anymore).

To start off, If you are not a fan of the TV Show that this game is based off of, you will most likely be a little put off with this game. This is a game that does what it was intended to do, Give fans of NCIS a way to interact with the feeling of the show.

This is not to say that this is a game that will give you a feeling of inclusion that one would hope for however.

Mechanics:

While it does focus on some pretty action oriented themes, NCIS: The Game is a point and click adventure only. I was somewhat surprised by this due to the fact that the show has some of the best car chase and dramatic action sequences of this genre of television.

The game moves pretty smoothly for the most part, You take the role of the NCIS agent needed for any given task Tony/Ziva while collecting clues/evidence, Abby for the forensic analysis, Ducky for the autopsy portion, McGee for the Hacking/Database searches, and of course Gibbs when taking on a subject in interrogation. No matter who you are, the game moves along with a series of minigames that get progressively more difficult as you progress in the game. None of these should prove too challenging and failure has very little consequence other then having to replay the scene in question until you get it right.

In my mind this makes sense since they are reaching out to a large demographic of fans, many of which may not even play video games. In this, the game feels very casual and pretty much any fan of the show can pick it up and play.

Audio:

This is the part of the game that made me wince the most. The reason for this is simply in the voice acting. Please note that the characters in this game ARE NOT voiced by the cast of the show other then Ducky (David McCallum) and Anthony DiNozzo SR. (Robert Wagner)It's hard for me to describe this in the fact that many of the voice actors that were chosen to play the roles did not do a bad job, in fact many of them do a fairly decent adaptation of the characters with slight inconsistencies to the character, others however seem so out of place that you just can't quite push it to the back of your mind. The voice actor that portrays Gibbs in the game is probably the worst out of them. His lines are delivered in such a way that fans of the show (Like myself) find themselves shaking their heads at some of the dialog. Overall, the voice acting is a disappointment for a game that was heavily advertized by the show itself. You just end up wondering why they couldn't get the entire cast instead of just letting ducky and SR go it alone.

The rest of the audio is pretty much up to what you would expect, from the signature "Thump" as a scene ends to the title music playing through a pixelated version of the show's opening theme. In the game itself it is pretty well done. At the NCIS office you can here phones ringing and keyboards typing the in the background, various muffled conversations and pretty much everything else you'd expect in an office setting. The crime scenes play up the scene a bit with some low tension building background music that never gets loud enough for you to truly take note.

The audio of NCIS is a mix of what you'd expect and voices that just don't add up.

Story:

This is by far one of the games highlights. The game is set into 4 "Episodes" that play out very much like what you would expect from the show. Each episode is written by the writers of the show and it really comes across well. Each episode adding a bit more to the depth of the game while not drowning you with complex variables. Since this is a point and click minigame collection for the most part the story really helps to tie it all together and make each segment seem significant.

I won't give away any spoilers but by the time you reach the fourth and final episode it will become clear that all of these cases have something in common and the climax of the game brings you climing your way up the side of a building as Gibbs. While I would have wished for a bit more action from this scenario, the story comes across as something that any NCIS fan should at least enjoy as a "Lost episode" like faeture.

Graphics:

The game's graphics are nothing spectacular but serve their purpose, it is evident who is who and what you are looking for. While the backgrounds and characters are bland for the most part you never really feel like they are "too bad" either in the grand scheme of things.

Replay value:

I would say the replay value on this game is low, you can't move onto the next scene until you have completed 100% of your objective and you are practically given every Trophy/achievement in the game just for completing it so there's very little to go back to unless you feel the desire to go back several months/years down the line and replay it.

Length:

Each episode of the game lasts roughly an hour (Roughly the length of an episode of the show) However gamers with good coordination will probably be able to beat this game much quicker.

Overall:

This is a game that any fan of the show can get into, while you may not get exactly what you would hope out of the package you do get a bit of additional content for those of you who love the show and want a bit more. It's a good game and does what it was set up to do. But it is a casual experience, do not look for too much depth here. For this, I give the overall game 3/5 stars.

I love both in NCIS shows so I was ecstatic to find that they made a video game based upon the show. As soon as I got the game, I rushed to my PlayStation 3 ecstatic that I was going to be able to solve crimes alongside Gibbs and his team. I was a little disappointed to hear the voice actors were not the actors on the TV show all except for Ducky and it was a little surprising to hear the different voices than what I was used to hearing on the show. I also feel that they could have made the episodes longer or added more episodes for you to play. Because just when I got in the groove of what I was doing the game was over and the only option you have is to start it over again but by that time your you know how to solve the cases. Overall, it is a great game for someone who loves mystery games and loves the show.

I am a hardcore NCIS fan and wanted this game to be like the show. With action and free roaming . The game looks and sounds good. I hated to accept the realization that is is just a bunch of mini games . I wanted to interview people and run, drive and shoot.. Even work on a boat while drinking bourbon in Gibbs basement. I was hoping role playing or something. Feel how it is to walk around the office. Nothing of any sort. Not even the real actors voices. This was a rushed play on gamers love of the show to get a quick buck. No fun and it doesn't get any better then the first ten minutes. By the time you read this you should be able to get it used for a couple of dollars, literally. Even the most hardcore fan can do without.

Looks great, but the second day after applying, the yellow one fell off and cracks formed on the red and other heads. Considering a refund or exchanged, but see the same thing happening again. There just aren't skins for this set that can stand up to consistant playing. I have mine taped until I figure something out.

I love this sticker set but I think maybe it's been sitting around a while because the drum pads and the background wouldn't stay stuck down, quite a bit of peeling on the background and a little edge peeling on the pads. This package is a pretty good deal. Yes, you could buy all three separately for a bit more or a bit less depending on where you look. The best part of this deal is that you get all of the dlc for Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. But, if you already have the games, then this wouldn't be worth the time. No new content or anything, just the original trilogy. This is wonderful for people like me who don't have the time to play every game that comes out, or for people who just overlooked this amazing title. The game for the most part has solid controls, every once in a while your character will collide with a ledge or something you didn't intend to and it will screw you up, but it happens so little and the rest of the game is so wonderful that you don't notice it.

The only problem I have with this package deal (and this is being extremely picky) is that the games were not meant for this. The people that sell it have packaged the original retail games thus they remove the original UPC codes on the back. The only reason I find this annoying is because the codes have to be cut out. I enjoy the game cases as much as the game. It is a reminder of when I got the product and I just would have like to seen it in tact. It also takes away from the feeling of opening the package, because the cellophane has been cut as well to remove the code, taking away the satisfaction of wrestling with that stubborn packaging to get to the gem inside. But that isn't enough for me to not recommend the product. It is wonderful and I need not be picky with the physical packaging.

There is an 'outer-shell' type thing, which can old all three games together. It was shrink-wrapped. Each individual game was also shrink-wrapped, but they were pre-opened. The seller cut out the UPC Barcodes from the corners of all the games (probably for a rebate of some kind). This is kind of a bummer for those who like the game cases to look 'perfect,' but it doesn't detract from the games themselves, and it isn't a big enough deal for me to lower the rating of the seller or the product. Granted, the seller could have been a little more careful and neat about cutting the codes out, but it's not really a big deal. A bit of tape, and it's fine.

Opening the cases of each game, you got the strong smell of brand new plastic, which gives a higher likelihood that the games are actually 'new' and haven't been played. None of the discs were scratched or worn, and all of the booklets came with the game. With the second two games (AC 2 and AC Brotherhood), there's a single slip of paper that gives two separate codes (one for each game) to unlock bonus material namely: maps, skins, bonus armour, and extra multplayer characters. I have yet to test if these codes actually work, but I'm very positive that they will.

The games themselves all worked. There were no glitches or slowdowns or anything. They all ran perfectly in the PS3 system. As for how fun the games are, well, that's up to the individual. But I very much enjoy them. The story is interesting, exciting, new, and original.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend gamers to buy this product (unless you have one or more of the individual games I'd just buy the remaining ones separately). If you don't own any of these games, it's nice to be able to get all three of these together. If you have some of them, like I said, I'd buy the others separately it'll probably save you some money.

When I bought this I had never played any of the franchise, and after seeing the latest installment coming in of American history I was super interested, as I Talked to people it was going to be in a way of a continuation of the previous 4 games. I figured it was high time I found out who Altaïr and Ezio was. With in the first few hours I would hooked. I blew through the first game only missing a few flags in about 20 hours. I'm nearly done with the second game, the Assassin's network established by Ubi Soft tracks my progress. I'm 80% through currently. Missing mostly feathers which I'll get later. I'm being told that the Brotherhood is the best in the series. As far as game play content goes, The story Arc with desmond is a side note, and something that I've not thought about at all. I get rather irritated when I get pulled out of the Animus. This is particularly True with the second game

My only complaint, is that you have to enter the code through game, and it enabled a lot of content... but I have no idea what it was or where to find it.

This is another game I had been planning to order, until I discovered that EA has yet again placed hidden software in the game that is incredibly difficult to uninstall (and has had issues with Vista 64, my OS). I am all for companies protecting their IP, but they should find better ways to do it, such as through Steam or other verification platforms that do not install hidden software that will slow down my computer for the rest of the time I own it.

When EA keeps giving birth to such beautiful yet stillborn babies (killed by the decision to bundle another infamous SecuROM 7+/LIMITED ACTIVATIONS scheme), one can only ask: WHAT HAVE ITS EXECUTIVES BEEN SMOKING?!

MASS EFFECT can be found in clearance bins only months after its release; SPORE undersold miserably; EA's stock was hit hard because of these failures (way BEFORE the market dive) and yet, no one seems to be awake at the helm.

By insisting on slipping in such problematic and hated DRM scheme in DEAD SPACE (and RED ALERT 3 in a week) EA proves in how little respect it holds its own customers. Of course, calling "pirates and petulant children" the 3,100 Amazon reviewers that rated with 1-star the, similarly plagued, SPORE should have been an early hint.

SecuROM 7+ has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH FIGHTING PIRACY. Proof: both MASS EFFECT and SPORE (as with BIOSHOCK last year) were pirated ...hours within their release and if I can find this by simply Googling it, so can anyone.... I would bet dollars to donuts that EA is well aware of this yet keeps bundling SecuROM 7+ although it severely hurts its sales! Ever wonder why?

SecuROM has always been more about data-mining and reporting back to its occasional mothership than...fighting piracy. That is why even FREE demos contain SecuROM. And that is why completely uninstalling a game plagued with SecuROM will NOT remove SecuROM which will keep playing havoc with your system.

Lately, these security concerns have been accentuated as known Trojans seem to be exploiting SecuROM's backdoor access for their own purposes. In effect, installing a SecuROM-infected game in our computer will be placing your hardware and data at risk long after having uninstalled the game.

The game publishers that utilize SecuROM (such as EA) realize that they are not actually fighting piracy but use it as a pretext to bundle SecuROM with their product WITHOUT THE INFORMED CONSENT of their customers. A snooping-subroutine would require full disclosure whereas an "antipiracy" scheme can enjoy some more leeway.

Their near future plans (according to interviews given by their own executives) call for turning our computers into their proprietary consoles where we will be playing games for which we will be paying by the minute.

This nightmarish Pay-per-Play future apparently depends in them first consolidating their technological hold on as many computers as possible. After all, they see us as their cash-cows and they just started herding us in.

I, for one, REFUSE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER RENT-A-GAME.

Tell you what EA, you can keep your defective games and I will keep my hard-earned money. Let's see who has more to loose...

Went to Best Buy to buy a new Wiimote yesterday and saw this game. I bought both.

Came back and install it on my Dell Dimension 9200, which is about as pre-built as you can get right? No vista driver problems for me, right?

WRONG. 2 + 2 = giraffes WRONG.

First I had to tell my antivirus and spyware software about a BILLION times to let secure-rom install.

Second I installed it and rebooted.

Third my dvd drive no longer works.

I am not sure what changed between Bioshock and this game cause I bought Bioshock and had no problem with secure-rom back then. I bought bioshock full price and don't regret a single cent because I ACTUALLY GOT TO PLAY BIOSHOCK. I finished bioshock without even cracking it (although I eventually did for a second play-through, cause who wants to find the dvd everytime right).

REVIEW UPDATED :

Funny thing. I never did install Dead Space again on my system. I just can't risk having SecureRom on it again since I actually do tons of work on it. So here is a review of a cracked version of the game, as opposed to the boxed copy which now sits next to other games I don't play anymore (poor HL2). I think EA should have an option when you insert the disk that lets you chose between installing their DRM version or downloading a cracked one. I am joking but I totally am not.

The game runs nicely on my Dell Dimension 9200, which ran Bioshock and COD4 on high just fine. If you compare it to PC exclusive titles you can tell the textures in this game is low quality. Nevertheless, it has a nice, polished look.

The controls are fine. I tried it with my xbox 360 control but just can't bring myself to play any kind of fps without keyboard/mouse. The game forces the mouse turn rate so your character can't magically turn 180 degrees in half a second. This didn't bother me, and I actually think it's a nice way to add some realism into the controls.

The overall experience is effective and addictive, if not for the reason the developer stated. They said it was mostly about psychological fear, with help from shadows and music. The game is actually mostly about enemies popping out or dropping down from ceilings. They said it's about strategic dismemberment. It's strategic the first 5 times, by then it's more like habitual dismemberment. Shoot limbs for maximum damage doesn't require more IQ than boom headshot.

Nevertheless, the game just flows very well, and lots of little things are put into it to keep you in the game world 99% of the time. It's obvious the developers put a lot of thought into the interface and controls. It's something new to the genre that future games can learn from.

So now having played the game (I plan on replaying it on Easy so I can just wack the enemies to death, and then on Hard to give myself more of a rush) I think it's worth the money. However, a big part of the reason I think that is cause I played a cracked copy put together by the pirates which installed the game and not secure rom. So I'm very conflicted about the whole thing. I definitely don't want any more secure rom nonsense but at the same time I'm happy I bought the game (to support more games like this on my PC). I guess I'll continue to buy games with secure rom if it's good enough like this one or bioshock, but I'll still be playing the vastly superior pirated copy instead. Everybody wins, I guess. At least everybody who is honest enough to buy the game, and then smart enough to download a cracked copy too :/

Dead Space is definitely a good game and I don't regret buying it, but the port from Xbox 360/Playstation 3 was clearly a half-a**ed job. The mouse and keyboard are typically a much, much better interface than a game controller for shooters, in my opinion, but this game eliminates much of that because of how badly it was ported. The game treats the mouse as if it's an analog stick on a game console and as a result it's really wonky--the mouse sensitivity is very non-linear and it has a huge "dead zone" where precise, small mouse movements literally do not move the cursor (in other words, the game has dramatic, obnoxious non-adjustable mouse acceleration). In a game where precise aiming is quite important, this is a problem--I can't properly dismember Necromorphs if I can't precisely (and quickly!) aim my weapons.

Fortunately, you can mitigate this somewhat by turning Vsync off (and enabling Triple-Buffering through video card drivers manually to compensate for the horrible screen tearing that results from turning Vsync off) and turning the mouse sensitivity to max. It makes the game perfectly playable, but it never feels quite as good as most PC shooters do, which is rather disappointing. If you don't do this, it feels like you're aiming/looking in mud--it's really obnoxious. Also, EA has stated that they have NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER to patch the game to fix this, so if you're hoping that that could solve the problem, I wouldn't hold your breath (the game is also already two years old as of this review and its sequel is imminent).

The game looks and runs great otherwise. I'm playing it at 1920x1080 ("1080p") on Windows 7 with 3GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 (2.66GHz), and an EVGA nVidia Geforce 9600GT.

My first play through took about 16 hours to complete. I greatly prefer if a game has 30+ hours on a single play through, but pure shooters don't often hit that mark and the game makes some attempts to deliver replayability with the perks given for second play throughs. Granted, these would be more useful if the difficulty of the game could be increased on these other play throughs (or at any other time, like many games allow now) to compensate for your better gear, but at least it's something. In any case, the price right now is *really* low (I paid about US$10.50), so even if the game is short, it's not hard to feel like you're getting your money's worth here.

The story is pretty decent (if derivative) but the execution is what makes it more compelling--voice acting, atmospheres, etc. Given that the game has been out for a while, it seems unnecessary to go into depth on this part of the game, as there are a lot of good reviews out there that are basically platform-independent if you're curious about the game in general.

Finally, I opted for the Digital Download version of the game since it was the same price as the disc version and Amazon lets you re-download the game later if you want to. This worked perfectly and I'm quite impressed with the process. Kudos to Amazon for getting this system put together well.

If you like software as a service, go ahead and spend your hard-earned cash on a game with no resale value. Others have already told you how much fun it is to fight with SecuROM for control of your own system.

This is brutal, it's unfair, and I hope other companies don't follow in EA's footsteps.

Hopefully, Left4Dead will deliver a fun gore-fest without killing my computer in the process.

Small Disclaimer: I have not yet finished the game but feel I have experienced it enough to give an accurate description of mechanics, atmosphere etc. There are no spoilers in this review. If me reviewing the game before completing is a problem for you then please stop reading here.

It's truly difficult to talk about Dead Island and do it any justice. This is an experience, one that each player will make unique for his or herself. I can't tell you how sprinting away from a horde of infected and listening to them screaming in rage as they give chase makes you feel. Or locking yourself in a bungalow, frantically searching for a couple of energy drinks just so you can descend a little further into the nightmare that is Dead Island.

It's those moments that make it so hard to describe. It's amazing how much this game changed me in the nine straight hours I played last night. The minute I was unleashed onto the breathtakingly beautiful Island Resort with only a paddle in hand I thought I had this game figured. At first I ran into every encounter headfirst, merrily swinging my paddle around like a manic zombie slayer. After being torn to shreds several times I rethought my strategy. I became a survivor. The enemies in this game are dangerous and relentless and melee combat is brutal and unforgiving. I will now avoid large mobs if I can and when I can't I am using my head and searching for a way out while trying to keep the zombies in front of me. I am no longer trying to rack up my kill combo; I am fighting to stay alive.

I could draw many comparisons on this game comparing it to the likes of fallout, borderlands, resident evil, dead rising, left 4 dead etc. But tons of other, better reviews have already done that and yes I will concede it does take things from all of those titles but the game itself is completely original for one big reason. It's the feelings you have when playing this game. Never in my life have I ever felt so much dread in rounding a corner praying I don't walk into a group of the infected. Then the sense of complete and utter hopelessness when I do, you back yourself into a corner and get ready to fight with whatever you have on hand and the sense of grim victory when you finally win the hard earned battle. Yes this game takes parts from all those games, but this isn't a game, this is an experience and I urge you to go in with that in mind. Now lets delve into what makes this game good and not so good:

Pros:

Combat:

The combat is what truly makes this game shine. You aren't a super hero or a generic soldier; you are an average person thrown into something bigger than his or herself. The infected will show you no mercy. If you are mobbed with them then you are as good as dead. If you run in swinging your stamina will deplete quickly and you will be left defenseless and you again, will die. You must be methodical in combat, use any advantage you can find. This game will not hold your hand, if you are outnumbered then you need to find the upper hand or flee.

The combat is gritty, realistic and satisfying. I feel like a human when I am fighting. If I am mobbed then I don't have a chance in landing a blow, being off balance makes you feel powerless and defenseless and rightfully so. But if I stay just out of reach by using tight alleys, obstacles and backing away I might get out of the battle alive.

Each infected reacts differently when struck; I might break a zombies arm sending it stumbling back into the rest of them buying me a moment or two to replenish lost stamina. I did this a couple of times and thought I had found a winning formula for the rest of the games mobs. The next battle I found myself in I broke the zombies arm only to have it lash out with the ruined limb and send me stumbling back allowing the rest of the creatures to move in for the kill. And kill me they did all because I got too complacent.

Now every time I walk into a fight I don't know what the outcome will be but I have learned to be careful. It's this that makes the game so exciting and engaging. I have never experienced such a savage glee smashing a zombies head only for it to cut into slow motion to show me the creature spinning through the air after a hard fought battle.

Zombies:

I'm giving these guys a category all of their own because they are so well done. They all look unique, you will never see the same creature in a mob and it really lends to the immersion of the game. I like how in the resort you will be fighting bikini clad beasts but the further you venture into the town you will find them sporting work clothes and gang wear. It again adds to the immersion.

The zombies aren't just eye candy they are also believable. In the combat section I wrote how well they reacted to me, but they also interact with the world in cool ways. Driving by zombies you will see them eating their fallen victims. You will see them pounding on survivor's doors trying to gain entry or skulk around aimlessly waiting for their next victim. If you are driving they will give chase to your vehicle and try to knock it off the road. All of this again makes me feel so much more immersed in this world. Instead of them standing around idly waiting for you to walk by they are active in their world.

In combat they are savage and ruthless and are really a terrifying foe to do battle with. From the generic walkers to the sub boss character each infected feels challenging and scary. Something I really appreciate in this title.

Game play:

The rest of the game play feels like an action RPG. You kill zombies for exp which makes you a better zombie killer. There are some surprising skills one skill I particularly enjoy is when my character is drunk he becomes twice as powerful. There are four character templates to pick out and each have their own unique skill and look, but there are so many skills to choose from you will have a character completely unique to your play style. The zombies also level with you as you level meaning the only thing keeping them at bay is your weapons and skill choices. I liked the leveling because it keeps the game feeling challenging the whole way through but doesn't stunt your sense of progression either.

You collect weapons rated a colour based system White for trash to purple for legendary. This is one of the best parts, there's nothing better than finding a rare machete, the hunt is addictive and it's exciting never knowing what you will find.

Driving is actually really nice and a convenient way to get from point a to point b. It's not perfect though as you can't look out your back window making reversing while surrounded by the undead pretty tough.

There are some pretty cool ways to interact with the world, if you attempt to breach a barricaded door you will need to use brute force to open it. It's dealt with in a cool little mini game where your character tries to use his or her shoulder to break the door down and you are more successful the closer you are to the middle. It might not sound like much but try frantically entering a building like this while the infected are hot on your tail. You will also break down computers take apart vehicles and raid any container you can find in search of items to craft with. Speaking of crafting...

Crafting:

The weapons you find are great and all a machete will take off limbs and heads with ease but how about an electric machete? Or a flaming baseball bat? This is where it feels the most like Dead Rising you will find crafting supplies around the island and so long as you have the blueprints can modify your weapon to your liking. It's easy and worthwhile.

I wasn't too excited about crafting but it feels pretty realistic and makes the weapons look great. The effects are brilliant too, every time I score a critical hit on a zombie with my electrified machete he becomes a conductor and spreads it to all of his zombie pals wreaking havok on an entire mob!

Quests & Story:

I find the story very interesting so far, you are immune from the infection and so become the errand boy for several survivors camps. On the surface it's nothing but fetch quests, but it's not as simple as kill X amount of zombies for reward. Instead one quest may see you driving to a nearby gas station and frantically trying to fill up tanks of gas and fend of zombies in the process. The reason? to burn the infected the camp has killed so as to not attract more with the smell. Another quest has you reinforcing a car to make a daring run deeper into town to find more survivors and supplies, or building a help sign out of discarded luggage that can be seen from the air. The quests really make you feel like a survivor in a zombie outbreak they are realistic and enjoyable and I have yet to become bored by them.

There are a ton of side quests to be done and two out of the three above quests mentioned are actually side quests. They are fun and original and really help boost your XP.

Graphics:

The games graphics are rich and varied and adds to the atmosphere of the game. From the lush tropical beaches spotted with long abandoned beach towels and sand castles to the deadly silent streets with overturned trash cans and wrecked cars everything is rendered beautifully and lends to the atmosphere.

Sound:

The music is surprisingly melancholy and lends to the sense of hopelessness you feel when traversing the island. The sounds the zombies make are terrifying they will let out a scream when they spot you that chill the spine. Each creature sounds unique and terrifying.

Cons

Combat:

How is combat both in the pros and cons list you ask? Well as amazing at it is it is not without its flaws. There has been more than a few times where my attacks fail to register or the attack button becomes unresponsive. Throwing weapons while a great way to keep the zombies far from you is not without it's problems. In the heat of battle I would have to stop swinging my weapon, hold down my throw button for a couple of seconds until the reticule showed up and then throw. It broke the flow of combat and felt clunky and out of place. I would use it when starting a battle, just be sure you don't throw your favourite weapon!

Weapon Degrade:

The degradation of weapons is really cool and all and it lends to that same sense of fear that's prevalent through my whole game. There is nothing worse than getting attacked when your baseball bat's ready to fall apart. The only problem I had with it is that it's too fast, that legendary weapon I had? It's awesome but after a few run ins with the undead it's nothing but a hunk of junk. That wouldn't be such a problem but because it's a legendary weapon, it costs a lot of cash to repair as opposed to a regular weapon which makes using those awesome, kickass weapons feel prohibitive because I just don't have the funds to keep up with the cost of maintaining them.

Mini-games:

That cool mini game I mentioned up above are good and all but there are so many missed opportunities to break up the monotony. Lock picking for instance is only a skill if you don't have the necessary skill to pick a lock you can't. If you level up it opens like any other container. That's it. There are a multitude of tasks that require you to just hold down a button, something that makes the game a bit dull.

Voice Acting:

Some of the accents are just really bad. Some are fine but none are spectacular.

Sounds:

I had a couple of issues with sounds where it will cut out altogether for a few seconds, not a big deal until the zombie you didn't hear screaming is now chewing on your face.

Shooting:

When I found my first gun eight hours in I thought the game would be easy. It's not, Zombies soak up bullets like you wouldn't believe and ammo is scarce. The reasons it's in the cons is because when fighting humans they dive in and out of cover and I can't. I have only my crouch button and in a game made for melee combat that's fine but when in a gunfight it's irritating. You get used to it, it just feels like an overlooked aspect of the game. Aiming feels off too, I haven't poured any skill points into firearms though so that could be the problem. Thankfully you don't rely on guns too heavily. They are useful for thugs though ;)

Death:

I don't know if this is a pro or a con but when you die you respawn a few feet away from where you fell and lose a bit of money and exp. Your health is filled up and you're ready to go again. The thing is, despite the lack of punishment for death I still fought to stay alive and dreaded walking into a fight with only a few bars left, so it doesn't break the immersion.

Online:

I'm not placing this in the pro's or con's because I have yet to get a chance to play it, it seems the servers were overloaded on release day. Looks good though :P

Conclusion:

For a game coming so late to the zombie party and using techniques that many games have used to a better degree this is a standout title. It feels fresh and original in an over saturated genre and the experience of true survival horror you will feel while playing this game is unparalleled to anything I have ever experienced before.

This game is huge and varied and a delight to play. It will be filled with a ton of awesome water-cooler moments, the experience you have will differ greatly from mine but you will have an experience I guarantee you that.

This deserves 4 out of 5 but I'm going to be generous and give it a 5/5. For a low budget title such as this the list a gripes are nothing compared to the hours of fun you will have playing this stellar title.

I'll admit that I had my doubts on this one, even after reading all I could find on it and watching trailer after trailer of graphical zombie goodness. It turns out that, so far, this is the most fun I've had playing a game this year. I currently about 10 hours in playing it and have just found some guns. Yes, it does take a bit of time to acquire guns and ammo is somewhat scarce, but this adds a whole new element that melee doesn't. It took me about 2 or 3 hours to get used to the controls and menus and such. Select pulls up your map. Up on the D-pad pulls up your inventory. There is a bit of experimenting to be done with Dead Island before it becomes second nature as the instruction manual is very lackluster and there are no in-game tutorials. But don't let that detract you from this superb zombie game!

The graphics looks amazing on my 47" LED TV. The music is quite diverse and fits the mood of the game perfectly. You can play as one of 4 players, but choose wisely because each one has a different skill path they can embark upon. Let me also say this: This is a MAMMOTH of a game as far as length is concerned. By the time you go through the main campaign and all of the side quests I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it ended up being a 30 hour affair! Fine by me! The more the merrier.

To me, what really stands out with this game is how fun and addicting it is. Once you get going and figure out the basics, putting down the controller is the equivalent of a crack addict going cold turkey. I couldn't stand waiting for my copy from Amazon to come via UPS today, so I went to GameStop at midnight last night, got it, then went brain dead(pun intended) for 6 hours straight, slept for about 3 hours and played another 4 more. I'll lose return shipping sending it back, but it'll be worth it knowing I've already gotten to play a large chunk of the game. Needless to say, I had to take a break from my 2nd assault on Banoi Island because my eyes were/are still burning. But what amazing fun the game is and I'm sure will continue to be! There are certain times where you have to use your brain to get out of hairy situations and it will get your pulse racing. The fall onslaught of games is upon us and Dead Island starts off the assault with a BANG!

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this ends up being a sleeper hit, since the developer(Deep Silver?) is not well known and they did have a huge budget with which to promote the game. What they achieved with the limited resources they had is nothing short of amazing. Go buy this now!

I've only had 2 hours put into this so far but I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite games this year.

First of all, if you're buying this game because you liked the tacked on afterthought zombie mode in any of those overrated Call of Duty games, you're going to be majorly disappointed. The whole point of this game is survival on a zombie infested island, not to fight off hordes of zombies from a house. If you enjoyed Borderlands or like games where you have to do quests, loot and kill zombies, this will surely be one of your best purchases this year.

The graphics in this game aren't going to win any awards, but that's not to say they're horrible in any way. The landscape has a lot of pop in textures at times. The physics are kind of hit and miss as well since you can kick through solid things to hit zombies/they can run at you through things but the items never budge (usually an umbrella and sometimes a fence). I was also disappointed to find that throwing a knife at a throwable propane tank didn't blow it up. But never fear, for if you have a gun and find a propane tank, throw it and shoot it to burninate any zombies around it.

As with Left 4 Dead and Borderlands, this game is best played co-op. As you do quests, many of the zombies you encounter may be a bit too much for just 1 person. It's doable, but know that if you die, you lose 10% of your cash. Sadly, split-screen isn't supported so you do need 3 psn/xbla friends who all have the game online to play with them.

The story in this game takes a backseat for those just wanting to get to slaying the undead. You can skip every cutscene and not feel like you're missing anything, or really care. The dialogue in this game is pretty stereotypical anyways so unless you like hearing f this, f that, jc this, jfc that, skipping every cutscene and dialogue will become second nature pretty quickly.

There are tons of weapons scattered through the game but this game has a very heavy focus on melee weapons so you're going to find a large supply of paddles, bats, pipes, knives, brass knuckles, wrenches, etc. Guns are pretty scarce in this game but with the ability to run around kicking the snot out of zombies, it feels ok. Health packs are scarce as well however energy drinks replenish your health and seem to always be near by in areas you'd need them the most. You can't inventory them however so unless you really need them, just leave them for later in case you need them. You're going to do a ton of backtracking/exploring in this game and you're able to drive vehicles after a few quests. You eventually are able to modify weapons after obtaining blueprints/mod abilities to create things like a baseball bat with nails sticking out of it or an electric paddle. Don't put too much money into your weapons though as you're likely to constantly be finding something better. You can carry 4 weapons at first but unlock more slots as you progress and you can swap out your inventory at any time. You have to pull up your weapon wheel to select your current weapon rather than hitting triangle or Y. Also, like the first fear game, your flashlight battery depletes so conserve your flashlight for the pitch black areas only. You can find batteries laying around but they aren't too common.

Each character has their own specialty. One is good with ranged weapons, the other melee, another with guns and another with short ranged weapons. There isn't much to differentiate them outside of the skill tree. Like Borderlands, your character has 3 trees of ability upgrades. As you level up, you get ability points to use on these that do things like increase your accuracy, increase critical hit damage/chances, decrease the amount of money needed to repair weapons, etc.

All in all, this game offers a whole lot of content and a rather large island to explore. With a group of friends, you'll have no trouble sinking hours upon hours into this game as you loot and lay waste to the undead. Any zombie slaying fanatic will love this game.

Update: Techland fixed the save game problems several weeks later. The game is still glitchy as a mad hatter, but I've actually started considering the glitches, at least occasionally, charming. The audio will glitch so that a dead zombie is still screaming at you, or it will glitch so you never hear the zombie at all. Has the awesome effect of either keeping you on your toes by creeping you out without a cause or simply scaring you silly because you get attacked without ever realizing a zombie is near. Glitching producing the kind of random effect that ought to be built into any horror game. Other glitches are ridiculously hilarious. Few are game-breaking and I don't believe I've come across any since the fix that couldn't be fixed by loading a save.

As for the co-op, Dead Island beats Left 4 Dead 2 and Dead Rising 2 for sheer fun, especially once you get to the city. While the game starts you out on a beautiful tropical beach, eventually you get shifted to a heavily infested city. Me and two friends accidentally wandered into the Quarantine zone before we knew what it was. I was the only one playing the Asian chick which meant I could run away fast enough to find safety. One of my friends was not so lucky. I had the joy of watching him die over and over and over while he tried to run down a single block. I laughed until I was blue in the face. The constant respawn of the infected in the Quarantine zone might be a headache when you initially reach the city, but once you get a feel for the lay-out, it's the funnest part of the entire game. I could do without the sewer levels, however. There isn't a lot of fun to be had when the option of running away or around a special zombie is taken away. The rainforest-type levels weren't too bad. I didn't think you could make a sunlit rainforest creepy in any way, but I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, the game isn't terrifying on any level, but it gets the feel of a zombie apocalypse down pretty well.

A lot of people negatively compare Dead Island's weapon customization to Dead Rising 2. I honestly think Dead Island is more superior in that respect. There is certainly less variability and silliness, but the modded weapons are often far more durable than DR2's were. This is primarily because DR2 was about improvising on the move and DI is more about finding what kind of strategy works best for you. I tended to go for Deathstalker weapons, but a friend of mine loved the fire-based ones. And really, comparing DI to DR2 puts DR2 in a bad light. The world is much bigger and the zombies much more dangerous than DR2's.

Most of the side and story missions occur in the first two maps (the resort and the city). Later parts of the game are skimpier compared to earlier parts, to be honest. Perhaps when they release the sequel, they'll have ironed out some of the less amusing glitches and given it a more robust shine. Dead Island doesn't really have anything in the way of plot, but the setting and the various zombies make it far more enjoyable than L4D2 or DR2 ever was, in my opinion. Glitches and all.

Original review: Had I written this review 20 minutes ago, it would've been fairly glowing. Yes, the game is extremely glitchy, but it's rare for the glitches to cause a major problem. The only one that did was an escort mission that was interrupted; it would fail (death of NPC) when we tried to re-trigger it, only to find the guy hanging out around the corner later. Usually it's just a matter of fast-traveling or restarting from a checkpoint to correct any mission blocks. Other glitches are usually mildly irritating. Quite often, they're hilarious.

However, there is a save glitch that may currently be specific only to the PS3 version. I started a game that had saved during Chapter 2 when I was a level 8. The problem is, when I'd last played that save game, I ended in Chapter 5, on a totally different map and a level 14. When I talked to a buddy I'd been playing with the day before, he'd made it to the hotel area only to have his game reset him to Chapter 1 (he lost far more progress than I did). This is an extremely common glitch. Google it, you'll see. The patch they released for the PS3 version hasn't fixed the problem, because all of the progress I made was post-patch.

This game was released in a form that I wouldn't even describe as beta. Techland couldn't or wouldn't push back the release date so what we have is a game whose testing was extremely incomplete. You are buying an unfinished product, and it's not like Minecraft (which was functional even in beta).

Techland: if a gamer cannot save their progression through the story, then they have two options. One is to simply not turn the game off until you've finished, but that is both wasteful of the hardware and completely ruins any replay value. Two, they simply repeat the same small section of your game, endlessly. And I don't care how awesome a game is, that gets old real fast. You know what could've prevented this glitch from being a game-killer? Manual save option. Invented long, long before Dead Island went into development.

Ok first off ill start out by saying this is my first review of anything in a long time so don't be to critical.

Gameplay

Ill admit it is a bit repetitive but the ample amount of missions and the hordes of zombies and the different ways to kill them make up for the running back and forth to the same places. Another thing that kind of annoyed me at first was the weapons. I hated that you don't get a gun for quite some time. But after playing the game i realized that is what makes this game great. That you have to learn how to fight with a measly stick before you can take em down with a rifle. I love the skills you get to upgrade along the way. Also you have a special ability that once your meter gets high enough you become like a ninja throwing chinese stars and you can take down a whole horde of zombies. I love the mini bosses in this game you think you will just run up on them and chop chop they go down but no you chop off one arm and think oh they will be easier but they wack you with the other arm so you chop off the other arm and what happens now, they head butt you. This in itself i found to be really unique. Some of the quest are a bit cheasy but overall they are all pretty exciting. Driving a vehicle is great in this i love thats its first person behind the wheel and not some third person overhead cam. It reminds me of how you drove a car in Farcry 2. Overall i would compare this game to Left 4 Dead meets Fallout 3 meet Farcry 2. Its just too amazing to say anything more.

CO-OP

The co-op is amazing i love that you can take 3 friends along and work on each others missions together. I always said they needed a game like fallout but where you could go online and work on each others quest together. Well here it is.

Weapons

The weapons are great. You have a huge array of weapons from machetes to small throwing knives to a rifle. The weapons go on and on. Thing i dont like is how quickly they wear out but they do have a bench you can go to to repair them that look exactly like the benches to create ammo in fallout.

Well thats pretty much it i hope it has been helpful and sorry i didnt go more in depth but my hand was starting to fall asleep.

I am not one to really get into a game. Fallout 3, New Vegas, Dead Space 1 And 2, Bioshock 1 and 2 and the Parasite Eve Games are the only real games that i would replay again and again. Well i will now say Dead Island is also on that list.

I can tell you through experience there is no better value out there right now in gaming consoles. I have the 120 gb version of this product and I paid $300.00 just for that and the 6 axis controller. The internet hook up was fast and easy. You're online almost instantaneously which means I often check emails using the ps3 instead of my desktop Vista PC which takes 5 minutes or more to get on line. I'd recommend a Standard USB Keyboard ($10.99 w/super saver shipping) for typing in text while surfing or signing up for the Playstation Network because it's way faster than using the 6 axis controller. The photo section of this product got no press in the promo but it is world class. You just plug your digital camera into one of the usb ports, download some software from the internet for free by prompt and you have 4 different versions of slide shows featuring the music you upload to the ps3 or the music that comes with the software, your choice. I haven't tried uploading videos. The graphics are just stunning on my 720p Plasma. There is no better gaming console for graphics than the PS3. With these two games, 'Ratchet & Clank' & 'SingStar Dance Party Pack', I think you have a super compelling family value. The Wii I don't know, I returned mine because of internet connectivity issues,(no pppoe support for ethernet connections). I can tell you through experience you'll have no such issues with the ps3 and your graphics will be much better because of the HDMI hookup and the NVIDIA graphics engine. The 6 axis controller is a quality controller that should afford years of trouble free service and right now you can buy another one for $40.00 if you want a backup or need to play two people at a time. If you're into the motion control fad you can purchase a move controller/eye camera package with 'Sports Champions' for under $100.00 but in all honesty I don't think you're missing much. I have one and use it occasionally but the 6 axis controller is really where it's at for me. You should get an HDMI cable with this. It's essential for the highest resolution picture. Amazon sells a good 6 footer for $6.99 and no additional shipping. Additional nice things to have though not essential would be the extra controller as mentioned previously, a Nyko 2 controller charge station($17.99),(charges two 6 axis controllers without a usb cable and is the best charger available), and the USB keyboard also previously mentioned. This is a fantastic deal on a quality package. Get it for your kids but know that as an adult you made a decision based on quality that will pay dividends for years to come. According to my watt meter this product only draws about 70 watts when playing disc based 720p video games. I was surprised by that being that the product is rated at 230 watts. I tested it on a 32 inch and a 42 inch television and the watt draw was about the same.

This is my first Amazon review. I am making this review as somewhat of a "guide" for people who are thinking of purchasing this bundle and need help deciding. I hope whoever reads this finds it informative and helpful!

What you are looking at here is the Playstation 3 160GB Amazon family bundle. It comes with a PS3 160GB, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, SingStar + Dance Party Pack, and $25 in credit on Amazon's video game store.

As the title implies this is definitely a good bundle for anyone that wants a more family oriented experience. But we all know that PS3 is considered a hardcore gaming console because of it's raw power, so the bundle is also good for getting started and getting some nice sweet little extras. The two games that come with it along with the $25 in credit total are worth around $91 so you will easily be able to get at least one or two new PS3 games from Amazon and selling or trading in the included games if you wish.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time is the final third chapter in the Ratchet & Clank Future series, the first two being Tools Of Destruction and Quest For Booty. Before you pass on Ratchet & Clank I highly recommend you give it a try even if you are not a platform gamer. I am not a platform gamer but I have highly enjoyed the Ratchet & Clank series. It may be a family friendly game but it is hilarious (they are constantly whipping joke after joke) and a blast to play with tons of hidden stuff to find. I am living proof that probably just about anyone who bought this bundle could get into the game.

SingStar + Dance Party Pack may be another story. Initially I planned to sell it which you could do and get good money for it on Ebay, but I decided to keep it in case my girlfriend wanted to play it or we had friends over, whatever. Looking on the back of the case once I received the bundle I realized that there were actually some pretty good songs on it and it has the ability to download new songs from PSN. It does include two microphones as well and a USB adapter to connect both mics. The mics are well made and good quality. They fell heavy and as well-made as a professional mic in your hand, honestly. Still I know a lot of hardcore gamers looking at this bundle or a lot of other people are not going to be interested in this game. Like I said it can be sold for a good price if you leave it unopened.

Then there's the PS3 system itself. Unlike bundles we're used to seeing, it's not a bundle that actually comes with Ratchet & Clank and SingStar bundled in the PS3 box. Rather Amazon takes a big box and puts a normal PS3 160GB in it and packages a copy of Ratchet & Clank and SingStar along in the big box with the PS3 box. A fair word of warning (if it matters to anyone) that this PS3 does not come with a Blu-ray disc with previews and videos of movies and PS3 games. Not too big a deal but I rather liked those discs which came with all my previous PS3 units I bought new. The normal stuff comes with the PS3 160GB you'd normally expect in a PS3 package...The unit itself, AV cables (HDMI cable still sold separately), Dual Shock 3 SIX AXIS controller, power adapter, and paperwork.

So all in all if you are looking at starting out on a PS3, switching to one, or upgrading from a fat model, this bundle is perfect. There are other bundles that were available for Black Friday with better games and a movie that are probably harder to find now, but that doesn't mean you can't sell or trade the included games and then use the $25 in credit on Amazon's video game store toward new games...Although the Ratchet & Clank game is a generally very good game that most people who bought this bundle would want to keep I would think.

On another note, surprisingly enough, the $25 in credit can also be used toward accessories. Anything in th video game store that is shipped and sold by Amazon. I used mine on a brand-new copy of Borderlands and a brand-new PSP car charger. The total order ended up being $0.66 Hard to beat. :)

That's it for the PS3 160GB Amazon family bundle. I hope whoever is looking into this bundle now will have a much better idea of what it's all about and whether they wish to get it or not.

For Microsoft fans I recommend the Xbox 360 2010 Holiday bundle. $299.99 for a slim 250GB Xbox 360 and two completely awesome games, Forza Motorsport 3 and Alan Wake. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-250GB-Holiday-Bundle/dp/B0047Y9BGE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1291865481&sr=8-3

For Nintendo fans I recommend the limited edition red Nintendo Wii bundle. At $199.99 this Wii looks awesome in hot red and comes bundled with Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros Wii. Both are entertaining and fun right out of the box! http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Hardware-Bundle-Red-Nintendo/dp/B0045FEEAS/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1291865704&sr=1-2

This bundle is really great deal especially if you plan to get a PS3.

At first I wouldn't pay $300 for the PS3 because to be it is very expansive until I saw this bundle. I bought one mainly because of this bundle!

It comes with a LOT of stuff: SingStar the game, 2 microphones, Ratchet and Clank,a $25 gift certificate and of course the PS3.

The SingStar game is really fun and it comes with 2 microphones and its great for parties and those who love to sing. The songs are also really nice.

The Ratchet and Clank game is also a really great adventure game.

The $25 online gift is really nice because you can get a game of your choice.

Of all the deals this is the best deal for the holidays on a PS3 as you are getting a $40(SingStar) + $30(RatClank) + $25 Bonus = $95 worth of stuff and a PS3 for the price of $300 (the price most people paid for the console itself).

In Addition if you pay with a master card you get 2 day shipping for Free!

The PS3:

Pros:

1. Awesome graphics for games and can watch Blu ray and DVD movies.

2. Free Internet.

3. Lots of games to choose from.

4. You can download demos and try them out before you buy the game.

5. The controller is wireless.

6. Can play with many people and have a party.

Cons:

1. It is a little big compared to other consoles of the past but still a good size (PS2, Gamecube, etc).

2. Internet can be confusing to set up for some people depending on what internet modem you have.

I'm happy with this PS3 bundle and I recommend it to all those who are looking to buy a PS3 for themselves or to give as a gift. It is an Excellent Deal!!

I was impressed by the quickness and accuracy of my order. Good job Amazon.com!!! The Playstation 3 is a great system. Graphics are great and so is the sound. Not really into the Dance and sing from Singstar, but the Ratchet and Crank games was ok. Being able to go online and check my emails, youtube and Facebook comes in handy on the PS 3 system. Worth the money to invest.

I must say during the holiday season it was quite difficult choosing a PS3 bundle. Reason being there were so many options available, but I must say the AMAZON family bundle is really the best choice. Sing Star is really a fantastic family activity game that both adults and kids can enjoy alike also Ratchet and Clank is a great action adventure game to get started with this consol. I would advise anyone looking for a PS3 to purchase this bundle, its still available at AMAZON right now, but for how long is the question. In addition to the great games and USB microphones which are included this bundle offers savings of $70.00 which is a total of 23% of the cost of the system. Again I would like to say I'm totally satisfied thus far with this package and would recommend it to anyone.

You may consider this a premature review, but I thought I would share my initial feelings about the game anyways. It really doesn't matter the company, whether 2K or EA, but whenever the yearly edition of your favorite sports game is released, it's painfully obvious that the transition between one year to the next is subtle at best. Thankfully 2K doesn't simply add a new feature and highlight it as EA does year in and out with their games. For NBA 2K11, 2K knew it could not let down the legions of Jordan fanboys and fanatics worldwide by pushing out an inferior product and let me tell you, 2K11 has NOT disappointed me thus far. I received this game approximately 4 hours ago, THANK YOU UPS GUY, and after 4 hours of non-stop play, I am VERY satisfied. I'll attempt to break down what I've seen.

Pros:

1) Michael FREAKING Jordan. His presence is already the showstopper part of the game, but 2K does not simply include him in a "Legendary" team and call it quits. No, Sir. As you've already read, they include him on 10 of his legendary Bulls teams whether to relive his classic moments or to use them against current teams. Another cool feature is the ability to unlock all his Jordan brand shoes where upon wearing them, your player will gain specific stat boosts.

2) Inclusion of other legendary teams. They didn't have to, but they so kindly did.

3) Improved AI. Every year 2K and EA claim they have more life-like AI, this year is different. Basically once you pop the game in the disk you're already playing as a Jordan-led team and the difficulty was on Pro. I noticed immediately that the same passes to cutters will not fly. I played 2K10 on Hall of Fame and those passes were money. Well, not anymore. It takes a lot more know-how and timing to get things right and I couldn't be happier.

4) Buttons and moves. By this I mean 2K tweaked the buttons slightly and it's made things easier in my estimation. Circle no longer sets your picks (rather it is the "fake pass" button), as it's now L1. Pushing L1 calls your screener to get into position and releasing it tells him to roll. Rather than allowing the AI to determine when they should roll allows the player to better gauge what the best play will be. You can call a quick screen so that he simply slows the guy guarding you down and allow you to blow by for a layup or dunk, or you can set an adequate pick-and-roll (that would make Stockton and Malone happy) by allowing your screener to have a head full of steam before getting the ball. Performing moves is a lot easier for me this time around, it's hard to get into detail so you'll have to see for yourself. I say moves are a positive this time around because of the newly added animations allow for more variation when trying to break your defender down.

5) Clear difference between Stars and nobodies. When you're using a superior player and an inferior player guards you, performing moves will easily allow you to "brush your shoulder" of the guy. For instance, if you're using Derrick Rose and Robin Lopez switches to guard you, he's basically screwed. Higher ball skill ratings vs. lower speed means when you do a move against him, he'll be left in the dust. Also, star players definitely shine in this game. If you're using MJ or Kobe, being guarded perfectly doesn't mean your shot will clank. Everybody knows these two make/made impossible shots, as ridiculous as it looks/seems, they did it for real and you can do it in the game. Using Kobe in 2K10 was semi-frustrating because it would've been nice if I could've made some of those difficult shots that he makes in reality, now I can see them drop more often that not. Just my preference that I'd like to see some contested shots go down since some guys can pull it off. Again, you need to see for yourself how clear the difference is now.

6) Improved layout & presentation. You could do without this, but it does look nicer. Presentation looks especially cool, what you'd expect if you were watching a game on ESPN or any other live TV station. Massive improvement here that wasn't necessary but is absolutely a pleasure to have.

7) My Player. A lot of the things here will seem familiar to you, but 2K did add nice features here and there and allow for a more variation when developing your player. The combinations of shots, moves, etc. are endless. This feature was already solid in 2K10, but 2K added some nice little features here and there.

8) Graphics. I think the graphics this year around are fairly crisp and to anybody griping about looks, have you ever considered that maybe companies have already maxed out on how great these games can look? 1080p is basically the standard and if it doesn't look as good as you think it should be, try getting an LED tv and then get back to me.

Cons:

1) Same announcers, but they did add some new one liners. Either way, playing two games successively means you hear them rant about the same things. I don't think any game developer is willing to pay two new guys to announce their games every year.

2) I have not encountered any bugs thus far, but I suppose with more playing I'll see something? (SEE UPDATE)

Conclusion:

I think when word got out how amazing 2K11 was, EA finally accepted what they already knew. They were pushing out an inferior product year after year. It's never been more obvious this year as EA delayed their interpretation of basketball by 5 (FIVE!) months. If anybody even tried their demo, I don't blame them. Frankly, I'd get this game just for the Jordan factor... but I thank 2K Sports for merely letting his presence be an attention grabber while letting their actual game do the talking. Whether you're a 2K or Live/Elite fanboy, you really owe it to yourself to get this game. 2K didn't have to add a lot of the stuff that they did, but they did so anyways because they really wanted to prove to people that they've mastering their craft with dedication and thought. I hope that anybody who reads this review got something out of it because ever since popping the game in, I really felt the need for everyone else out there to see what I saw. If you have any questions or think I'm talking out of my ass, please let me know! And in the future, don't let EA sell you on their Great Balls of Fire (NBA JAM) to buy their games! Quality will always win out against HYPE!

UPDATE 9/10/10

The more and more I play this game, the more I am impressed. The emphasis this year around was actually SIMULATION of basketball. This is why so many casual gamers are upset, because they can't simply pick up the controller and score 50 with any star player as they'd hope. As good as those players are in real life, it's still insanely hard to pull it off on any given night, as it is in the game as well.

Year in and year out, the AI is ALWAYS a big issue. Game reviewers and connoisseurs, like myself and I'm sure many of you, always complain about the simpleton computer. Hall of Fame is NEVER a challenge....... until NOW. I read a review somewhere else on Amazon, complaining about how hard it was to score and how 2K made the game worse. These complaints are RIDICULOUS because the guy clearly didn't know what this game's about.

However, I've seen a few things that annoyed me.

1) Throwing hail mary passes don't work when you're doing them, but the computer can underhand a hail mary pass directly the guy down court.

2) Where are the Kobe shoes?

3) The new dunk contest. I preferred last year's version, though I'm glad that Sprite guy who announces it is gone.

These little things bug me, but the game is otherwise flawless. Game play is authentic and the animations are amazing.

My advice to anybody in the market for a basketball game is that, know what you're purchasing before you buy it. If you want some fantasy game where you can do whatever the hell you like and score a million points, you can purchase a copy of Live 2001-forseeable future or even a pre NBA 2K-11 2K game. This is the finest sports SIMULATION game ever and with that said, you cannot seriously expect to have things be handed to you when playing this. NBA 2K11 is meant for basketball purists who want the most authentic experience playing their favorite sport in virtual reality. Performing moves, running plays, making shots, etc. everything requires attention to detail and an ability to survey the situation at hand... as your favorite baller would in real life.

I am currently playing the game and have only taken a break from it for dinner today. One thing that I noticed is that the player movement is much more fluid compared to 2k10. Jumpers, especially, look really good (compare Kobe from 2k10 to this version and there is a glaring difference). Iso-motion controls are better this time, especially for the different shot types. The post-moves have definitely improved in this game as well. Another thing I liked is that defenders get posterized more often now by superstars. Before, a defender could be late to react to a dunk, and the AI would just hack you in mid-air (pretty unrealistic). That used to be really annoying, and I'm glad they fixed that. Oh, and for you Lebron fans, don't worry...he doesn't look like a gremlin anymore.

I'm sure some of you have seen the horrendous nba elite 11 demo video on youtube...if not, here it is:

Now, if you thought Bynum was Jesus in nba elite 11, just wait until you see Jordan in nba 2k11. I mean seriously...the guy is an absolute monster in this game. He's basically unstoppable from anywhere on the court (except for the mid-80s and the 98 Jordan who aren't great from deep). Other than those two versions, you can put the game on any difficulty you want, and it still seems like Jordan can score at will, regardless of the defense. Personally, I think it's a bit unrealistic that Jordan has a higher rating from 3pt land than Kobe, but I guess their career averages aren't too far apart. Also, he has a 99 steal rating. I know Jordan got the DPOY and averaged high steal numbers throughout his career, but 99? really? Also, MJ will often posterize 2-3 defenders in a single dunk (sometimes while clearly looking down on the rim), and he does the ft-line dunk occasionally in actual games (unlike in real life where he only did that in the dunk contests). The Jordan challenge, however, is definitely a lot of fun, and it is somewhat challenging to finish with assists/rebounds and huge scoring nights. I haven't tried the Creating a Legend mode yet, but I'm sure that wont disappoint either.

One annoying part is that they've made the Heat lineup a little unrealistic. I sincerely doubt that Wade is going to play PG with Mike Miller at SG. Most likely, we will see Miller coming off the bench for Lebron during the regular season with Wade at SG, but I'm sure you can fix this in the roster settings. Another annoyance is the spin dunks. They're very slow in terms of game speed, but they're usually successful, which doesn't really make sense. You'd think the defenders would do much better against this with all the time it takes the offensive player to do a spin move near the basket.

Other than these minor annoyances, nba 2k11 is by far the best basketball game I've ever played (and I've played a lot), and, like IGN mentions, it may be the best sports game ever made. Graphics, gameplay, and the addition of Jordan make this release a must buy. 10/10.

For ages basketball games have been hampered by the clunkiness of their execution, poor AI opponents, and being far from an homage to the fans. NBA2k11 is the complete antithesis of all the above flaws. Is it THE perfect basketball game? No. But it comes quite close! Below you will find my thoughts on what was done awesomely as well as what was done poorly.

WHAT WAS DONE RIGHT...

Beautiful B-ballers:

Though graphics do not necessarily make the game, NBA2k11 paints true to life avatars of some epic b-baller greats. Bone structure, muscle tone, facial expressions...you name it! Each is done with lots of care and precision. Thankfully this attention to detail also translates well when it comes to the player animations too. One teensy flaw in this category though is the animations for coaches and fans are much less impressive. Where Kobe's court prowess comes off as smooth and silky, the Laker's coach comes off as robotic and rigid. There's also the occasional muddiness or lack of aliasing woes in the PS3 version. Regardless of the hiccups, the presentation is still a satisfying experience for whichever console you play on.

Arena Atmosphere and Sounds:

Everything about the arenas in this game make it feel as if you are in the midst of a fever pitched basketball game. The crowd is far from a mass of 2 or 3 clones but rather very unique looking at all angles. The cheer tracks do not sound canned and the excitement in the revelry rises when you score some sweet slam dunks or buzzer beater shots. Your teammates and coaches will even get in on the action and give you approving fist pumps. Besides the big picture stuff, even the little details will make you smile. For example, you'll catch glimpses of the court janitor leaning on his mop as you prepare yourself for a free throw. It's the tiny but thoughtful stuff like this that really adds realism to the game to me.

Great and Fluid Control:

Dribbling feels as natural as it would in real life. Nudging the controller in a rhythmic left to right or quickly backpedaling it feels flawless. Initiating plays through the D-pad is a pretty easy procedure too and won't halt the gameplay a second. Shooting is one stumbling block for beginners but once you get your timing and placing down it couldn't be easier. Things may be tough to grasp at first but once you learn to do effective passing rhythms and not to spam square to steal, you'll really start to enjoy how the mechanics of this game work.

My Player...Create a Pro the Real Way:

My Player is really one of the most satisfying career components I have ever played in a sports game. Not only do you get to personalize an athlete but you really get to create a legitimate reputation for him based on his actions later down the line. While some criticize My Player as feeling too dragged and long, I feel that the length of time to really see your Pro bloom is just right. It honestly is more fun to build up a player from nothing and use your skills to nudge him up to bigger and better things. If I wanted a Pro right from the get-go, I'd have just fired up a game with the Bulls and MJ!

WHAT WAS DONE WRONG...

Tedious and Buried Menus:

Though I understand how feature rich this game is, digging around the menus to find a certain feature is no fun. At first I wasn't even sure if the menus existed until I inadvertently pressed the analog stick. I'd much rather prefer that the popular game modes to be right at the front and the smaller features stored in other menus. The good thing is though, if you do not wish to go into Association play or the MJ challenges just yet, there's the ever easy Quick Game option right on the first screen.

The Move Doesn't Move Me:

I am quite underwhelmed with how the Move was executed in NBA2k11. The controls are responsive enough but I dislike all the different button configurations you need to remember while doing gestures (if I wanted more buttons I'd stick with the Dualshock). Plus what happens on the screen does not mimic your movements but rather executes a pre-programmed animation. One of the biggest thorns is the fact that the navigational controller is NOT recognized by the game. This means you are stuck with uncomfortably holding the Dualshock controller in your other hand. Hopefully 2k will patch the navigational controller in at a later time but at the moment it looks quite unlikely. Ironically the one thing the Move does incredibly well in NBA2k11 is shooting. I timed my freethrows way easier by lifting my move controller in a throwing motion than I did with the analog stick.

All in all, NBA2k11 is the sports game to beat this year, perhaps even for the next five years. It is a classic in the making and the future of sports gaming all in one. Hopefully competitors can take note of 2k's efforts and up the ante for their future sports offerings to come.

NBA 2K11 is the best basketball game on the market, and the best I've ever played.

I was up until 2am last night playing the Jordan Challenges. Scoring 69 points with Jordan while shooting 50%+ AND dishing 6 assists with 8 minute quarters? Brutal!

Fortunately the game is so much fun that I didn't mind having to try about 4 times till I did it.

This game is going to consume a LOT of my time. I look forward to getting very little sleep in the near future.

I now see why EA Sports basically admitted defeat and went back to the drawing board with Elite.

NBA2k11 features Michael Jordan, and as I grew up with video games ever since the NES days, I can tell you that there were many basketball games that he didn't allow himself to be in. This game is like a makeup for all those lost years when they had some guy on the bulls, with no profile picture, and some generic name, but usually had mad skills! But even if you hate Jordan (i.e. Jazz fans), NBA2K11 is better than last years game, which had terrible team defense, with a hard to master shooting stick.

The gameplay is much smoother. On defense, you aren't so inclined to crouch down in some crab defensive posture, when instead you are trying to prevent a fast break. You back peddal at such a brisk pace that you are allowed to make some little mistakes on defense without basically giving the keys to the paint to quicker guards now. It seems as though the defense is still filled with some glitches though. It is very hard to pass to who you want everytime. I average way too many turnovers because of this, and the commentators are never slow in pointing that out either. And the defenders have great hands, and are always looking to deflect your passes, no matter how skilled of a passer you may have. Put the two problems together and you have moments when you get really mad, and offense can turn to defense really quick. You better learn how to defend the fast break unless you have found a way with the your playstation move controller that my PS3 dual shock control can't do, because you are going to give up the rock tryin to feed the post. Even on simple pick and rolls, on seemingly money plays, at the last moment the defending center can at the last moment raise his arm (with the back of his head faced to you!) and make the deflection!

Some of the amazing things that I have never seen in a basketball game are dynamic stadiums. Some games are not very filled with fans, while Laker games are really energetic! Nitpicking here, the Staples center usually lowers the lighting on the audience, and sometimes I felt that they had too much lighting on the crowd, and also, they had the crowd all in their seats at the beginning of the game. If you have been a Laker fan for long, you will know that Laker fans are awesome, but they are usually late to the game LOL! But this is a fantastic element to the game that I am amazed with!

Although I feel the graphics altogether to be better than last years, it does seem as though some of the players don't look like who they are supposed to be. I felt that Derek Fisher's game persona, looked really bad! And Kobe still looks like an alien, like last years. But I really enjoyed some of the reactions of the players. There are some really spot on behaviors done by alot of players.

As time goes by and I play more of this game, I hope to add more to my review. So far, I absolutely love playing classic Michael Jordan games, and seeing a better game dynamic than ever before. I have much to learn about this years game, even though I have played last years version alot, it is much different. I love this game, and it is the best basketball game ever.
