You can read my review of Borderlands 2, in which I lavish praise on a game that's seen more support in 6 months then most games see in their entire run (maybe to include sequels too).

However, this is a money grab in the worst possible way. Let me count the ways:

The Season Pass costs $30. This will give you Captain Scarlett, Torgue's Campaign of Carnage AND Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt AND the released Level Cap increase AND the 4th DLC to come out in June.

So right there, you're getting $25 worth of DLC that this does NOT include for $25. Meaning you'll have to end up eventually paying $50 to have all of the DLC items that would have cost you $30. If you want to pay another $20 bucks for that, it's your choice.

But let's go on:

The Gearbox Guns are crap. Pre-Order adopters got this initially. They'll help you get *MAYBE* through the first area but by then you'll find other guns that are superior to your level.

The Creature Slaughter Dome is an OK place to level up, and yes, you get a rocket launcher from Moxxi, HOWEVER...the Norfleet, among others, are superior RL and you'll most likely never use it. CSD was a pre-order exclusive from GameStop. You won't miss it.

Yes, you do get Gaige, but with the patching of The Bee shield as well as the Evil Smasher glitch AND the fact that after 5 months there are bugs with her character that GBX has yet to patch, you'd be better off just doing this separately with the $20 you save from the Season Pass (Gaige is $10 on PSN). Honestly, you can get by with the other 4 just fine.

Heads and Skins have made GBX millions I am sure by this point. They add nothing and do nothing to help you play the game. The only ones that are tradable are the ones found in-game by drops.

The Fireworks grenade is outclassed by many, many others (hello Longbow Stormfront) in the game. You'll use it once like the Moxxi RL and be done with it.

And there's one final caveat: You MUST HAVE the Borderlands 2 game to use this. Period.

So please, if you are that into BL2, buy the season pass, and if you REALLY need every character, get Gaige. In spending $40 that way, you will get 4 DLC's and the level cap increase. Vs. spending $25 and missing several updates.

One final point. GBX released a Game of the Year edition of BL1. You can expect the same once DLC 4 releases a few months later for BL2.

There is absolutely no reason to buy this, so save your money. BL2 the game, 5 stars. This is a 1 star rip-off money grab that no one should buy.

UPDATE!!! (28 August 2013). And wouldn't you know it, the Borderlands 2 Game of the Year edition was just announced and will be available effective 8 October 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and this will include:

All pre-order bonuses

All 4 DLC packs

The level cap raise (to 61) as well as the Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.

With this, and no offense, but you have to pretty much be dense to pay $30 for this, $20 for the regular game, and then still be shorted in the DLC department. The GOTY will retail for $60 at launch but with various discounts you could probably get it at $45-50 at launch.

PLEASE, for the love of all things sacred, do NOT buy this! Period! Save your money. :)

Greetings.

Totally agree with the sensibly critical review of this add-on for the game (what?!?). Folks that are able to take advantage of the season pass, etc., should stop reading this review and "go do that"...

This product:

1. duplicated offerings

2. overpriced duplicated offerings

3. requires a separate "real" game disc

That having been said, the add-ons are top-quality and top-notch. No difficulty in installation, version conflicts, etc. (which seem to happen with other properties almost all the time).

So, why would/should anyone get this? There are many folks that for a variety of reasons want a pressed disc for their content, and while the eventual release of a GOTY edition is likely, "when?" comes to mind. The last mission for the DLC associated with Seasons Pass hasn't even been released yet.

For even more gamers, there is a host of resentments and hangups about everything from non-dependability of the PS Network to the sketchiness of DLC handling. There are a ton of coop gamers who are not on network... and the reason they are not factored into these discussions and development adequately is because (drum roll) they are not on network. These include the folks that don't want to waste an afternoon arguing over a code. Personally, I am thunderstruck over the crappy connectivity and poor play experiences folks are willing to suffer through when they could be NATing or local. It is a different culture, and the folks with the functional pipe are certainly on the cutting edge of play experience and game culture. This disc offering is a solution for folks that can't or won't go there.

Next time I'll have to read the info a little better. This is only the first two DLC and other tidbits. It'd be cheaper to just buy the main game and then the season pass.

I used to be an NBA Live fan and other EA Sports game, mainly Madden. But I remember playing demos when I bought the PS3 and was comparing what I like better. There was NBA 2K7, NBA Live 07, and NBA 07. 2K7 just was just more realistic to me and had better gameplay. I play it with my little brother and friends, and it's just the small details that make it better then the rest. Players wear their signature shoes and even the real shots that players do. Especially Shawn Marion's horrible looking jumper.

2K8 was fun last year as well, except that lockdown feature really was broken. I can be Shaq and guard Tony Parker or Allen Iverson just by holding down a button. This one improves ont he lockdown defense and none of that Shaq on any point guard defense.

A few things I noticed, which is the same problem 2K8 had, is goaltending is way off. The ball will bounce off the rim or backboard and someone would touch it after and get called goaltending. This usually happens only once every 5 games in 2K8, but already it has happened in about 2 or 3 times in every game I played. Not sure what is up with that.

Also I don't understand what's with all the confusing menus. The menus also was bad, but they tried to change it and seem to have made it worst.

The one main feature that is missing and I don't understand why is, Sixaxis control for the PS3. I don't understand why this was taken out, were they too lazy? Just trying please everyone and make it exactly the same as the 360 version. I mean that's what set it apart from the other games. And made the free throw feel a lot more "real" then using an analog or watching a ball bounce across the backboard. Last year you can either have it on or off so the choice was yours, if you didn't like it. This has thrown me off, and I still hold the controller with 2 hand awaiting to throw a free throw when I realized that it doesn't work. So what was wrong with it? I can't imagine people complaining because you were able to turn it off. Now it's just gone........

Overall the gameplay is fun and better then the other NBA games. I only tried the demos for Live and 09.

The online I haven't tried much, I usually have people in the same room to play with........ But if you don't have anyone to play with and need online, I guess it would suck if it freezes like all the other reviews said. I will give it a try later.

Every year I look forward to the season opener and a new NBA 2K. This year is no exception, the quality of the upgrades on this game justifies spending $60 on it.

#1 Graphics I thought 2K8 was good, somehow 2K9 made it even better, even more realistic. Countless times my wife walks past and says there's basketball at this hour?

#2 Controls The post play controls are really tight, there's a lot of moves and fakes, it may take time to learn and get comfortable with all of it, but once you do, it feels very realistic.

#3 Commentary Unfortunately this is a bit of a backstep IMO. I liked Steven A. Smith, and there's more bugs than last year like wrong names, wrong teams said in the wrong situation.

#4 Updates 1 month past the release and there's a big patch out that allows 2K8 to update the roster as soon as the real NBA roster updates, now that's really cool. That one was function EA's NBA Live had and missing from 2K.

#5 Association It's very deep, yet can be fully automated as well. The trades system got easier to manage, option to automate parts of the scouting or draft if you don't want to micromanage everything.

Other than Yao Ming getting blocked by AI, the rest of the game feels very realistic. Overall, well worth the $60 spent, now it's another year of waiting until 2K10 comes out. Hm... Wonder if they'll change the name, that doesn't sound right. Two K Ten.

This game is the finest to come out yet. The detail is awesome. For those that notice the little things, you will be impressed. The crowd all do different movements, are dressed different and can be seen walking in and out as if they are going to consessions, etc. . The player movements are improved and they look more real than ever. Muscle tone and small details are enhanced. Probably the biggest thing I noticed was the individual players have their own shot movements just as they do in real life.

1) Love play-off games and the extra (including Questlove ;p characters)

2) Love the online play with friends and best for settling scores ;p

3) The bad thing is they (NBA2K) do not update the roster (tho there are people who do put up their own point version updates) :( as they just get newer game version to buy. I wish they atleast keep supporting their year old game rosters !! :(

When the new SSX was announced, I got giddy at the though and jumped up and down. Some of my friends didn't understand why I was so excited and I had to explain to them the amazingness of this series. Now that I have it, I have some mixed feelings, but I feel it's an overall good entry in the series.

A brief history: SSX has evolved continuously over the years. While some feel the games weren't different enough, I think it's one of the few series that varied greatly over it's iterations. The only SSX to not add or change much was SSX On Tour. Thankfully that is not the case with the new SSX. Fun fact: when EA got rid of EA Sport Big, they decided to start making EA Sports Freestyle, a more casual focused company, and the head of that sub company specifically said they would not be making a new SSX. Thank goodness that didn't stay true!

What's new: a rail riding button, extra gear required for certain courses which changes gameplay and adds additional concerns to keep track of, a whole new button configuration option (which is the default), rewind, no punching, no grabs (where you grab an edge and stay), no reset button, no halfpipe, and no freeride mode. Accidentally going 'off course' has been replaced by chasms of death that you have to 'rewind' out of or die. Also, new to the game, is death. snowflake multipliers have been replaced by geotags and snowflakes that give either experience points or money. The game also feels incredibly fast. In a developer interview, he said outside SSX, the biggest influence was Burnout Paradise. It shows. The new grind button is almost optional, since you can still grind without it, but it's harder. You can no longer grind if you hit the rail at an odd angle, which I found a little less fun.

Game modes: The game has 3 modes: World Tour (story), Explore (traditional SSX Medal score mode), and Global Events (psedo-multiplayer).

In Would Tour mode you open up playable characters. When you beat events, it doesn't matter what place you are as long as you aren't last. On feature that's interesting is if you keep failing an event, it will offer to simply pass it for you. I expected this would not give me my completion check, but there are no signs that I didn't beat that stage. If you wanted to go back and try it later, you'll have to remember what stage it was on your own. It also gives you any money and experience you would have received. This mode is mostly there to open up characters and reveal the 'story'. Each character has a motion comic video that plays to introduce you to them. Unfortunately, one of the biggest problems with this games vs the old games is that it lacks character. The characters are very vague, lacking the bite they used to have. As much as I love the old SSX characters, they might have well as used 'Male Racer A' or some generic build-your-own character. You'd think this mode would be all about building more out of those characters, but it just falls flat. As such, this mode is just there to slowly introduce you to elements of gameplay, mostly the new gear. This could easily have been done in a single level of Explore mode. Because it doesn't really work on both of these points, this mode ends up being mostly pointless, though it does give you a good feeling of 'progression', as opposed to simply earning money and opening up levels and medals. I also find the mode very unbalanced, because sometimes I'd beat the goal by a ridiculous amount, follow by a course I have to play 5 times, and back again. The XP and prize money don't really reflect difficulty either.

Explore Mode is the more traditional SSX fare, with most tracks having race, trick, and sometimes survival courses, with more options for each course than you'd find in World Tour mode. Survival (also in Would Tour mode) is new to SSX. Here you will have to make it to the bottom of the course without dying. The length you need to go to get a gold metal can be longer the course, which means once you get to the bottom, you go right back to the top and start over again. Until you die. This makes this 'survival' mode very different from anything in previous SSX games and can be closely compared to endless runners (i.e. Cannabalt). Trick and Race work very similar to previous titles. There's also a new avalanche mode that feels a bit like a mini-game, but takes the game and lets you play it from a different view. While it wasn't bad, it felt like a demo or mini-game at best, which is probably why I haven't seen it much in the game.

Courses, Death, and Rewind: The courses in this SSX have a very different feel than previous entries. The paths feel off-the-chart and not at all stadium-like. This makes the courses less memorable, but also gives a feeling of realism and each course has a more open feel to it. You don't just have one or two shortcuts, but the whole track feels like one open potential shortcut. I'm not sure if I prefer either type, they both have a lot of potential fun. The ability to die in the game adds some very difficult challenges and I found racing mode suffered the most from it. I also find I just plain think it ruins the pacing and fun of both racing and trick tracks. Previously, in racing, it's all about knowing the track and executing a near flawless performance. This time around though, there are a lot more places to fall and die, which makes you have to rewind. Unfortunately, the rewind only effects your character and the other racers speed ahead. The rewind is in 1:1 speed, so take the time it takes for you to realize you are in a chasm/dead-zone, then your reaction time to that, then the amount of time it takes to get to back to a point where you can safely not repeat the same mistake. You didn't just go from first to second place, you are now dead last. Also, half time time, I found that I'd end up somehow making the same mistake, so while you think you can back up to the exact moment you messed up, you actually have to back up several moments before. Meanwhile, a snail passes you by. Overall, the feeling of the game is entirely changed for racing, from 'getting it just right' to 'oh please don't mess up'. Rewind works better in trick mode, where it reduces your trick points significantly every time you use it. In survival mode, it has a limited number of uses (3, I think), which makes sense. Unfortunately, Rewind is really easy to hit with classic controls, causing me to hit it for some of the more complicated trick. Also, being in rewind is how you place geotags. I accidentally placed at least two geo tags. Rewind should have been mapped to the select button.

Score multiplayer, combo, trick mode, and landing: In previous entries, there was a perfectionism in the precision of taking a big trick, then landing, then chaining it, then doing another trick. Here, you have a combo score and a multiplier. The manual in the game is unclear on how they relate, but at some point there was a loading screen that clarified. And yet, I'm still not sure I get it. And that's sad, because previous entries let you know exactly how the scoring system worked. I still can't tell if doing one long trick on a rail vs multiple is better in the long run. I miss the clarity and find the hud in this very unhelpful. Also, it's easy to accidentally cancel your combo. In SSX3, you had to use the right analog stick to do last minute adjustments. I was sad when this was simplified to a button press in SSX Blur, but in this game it is taken out entirely. You simply land it if you've released all the buttons. And I do mean all the buttons. If you tweaked a grab using the boost button, then you have to make sure you let go of boost before you land. This caused me to crash the first few times, but I got used to it. Now having to adjust before I landed allows for me to call it much closer than I would have in previous entries. I feel it takes a little fun out, but it adds a little risk. The multiplier here works differently too, relying on you keeping up your speed and continuing to do tricks, regardless of whether or not you combo them. As said above, it's hard to get a clear strategy from the game as to which one is more beneficial or exactly how they interact. While I like the idea of speed, I miss the perfection of squeezing out every perfection I could get out of a course. Though, now, you no longer have to worry about time limits, since they multiplier forces you to not go back or it will cancel out.

Pseudo-multiplayer: This game has no real multiplayer. It has, at best, vaguely interactive scoreboards. This works fine for trick mode, which was essentially previously a simultaneous one player experience (not much interaction). Unfortunately, race mode suffers. I no longer feel like I'm racing against people. Not even the CPU. I'm simply racing against a previously known time limit. In some modes, you can still knock the CPU down if you hit them with your character, but most modes have ghosts instead. This would be why they took out punching. Geotags are a new way to interact with other plays over asynchronous multiplayer, but I just didn't care much for it. I can leave it around, and the longer players don't get it, the more points I get for it. I just don't care much, especially when the reward is basically the same as beating a race. On the flip side, collecting them is a little fun, since it's hard to say how much they'll be worth.

Customization: This is a really odd one. The customization in this game can be easily compared to what you'd find in a facebook game. It's very off putting. Just like a facebook game you can spend extra money (real life) for extra credits (in game). The items you can buy are randomly selected and you have 4 options which can range from amazing to useless (especially in the beginning). I can honestly say I can't stand it. The different outfits are just different colors, sometimes they have a perk, but it never tells you the details of the perk other than 'extra boost' or the like. How much extra? It's annoying, because you can see a board you want, but then can't afford. Next time you go to the store it will be 4 different random items. When it comes to gear required for a coarse (such as the wingsuit), if you don't have it, it will randomly put at least on in the list, from what I can tell. But then, in order to play, you are stuck with having to buy that one gear, even if you know there's a better one you can afford just around the corner. Or, you could play another race and come back I guess.

Music: Music and interactive audio has always been a highlight in the SSX series. The series peaked with the soundtrack to SSX Blur, whose soundtrack was done by Junkie XL. Unfortunately, the music in this one isn't nearly as charming or interactive. The soundtrack is more similar to On Tour, which was a mixed bag instead of just doing it's own thing and sticking to it. The tracks also don't have the feeling of interaction that previous entries do. Previously, when you soar in the air, the drums drop out and atmosphere kicks in, with only parts of the music still playing. In this one, there is what sounds like a simple frequency cut off filter. It's still good, but not nearly as intricate as previous entries, especially not Blur. This one does allow you to load your own soundtrack though, instead of the 35 tracks available. The results are surprisingly good. When in the air the low frequency cuts off, when gliding there is a delay/doubling effect. It's good stuff. I wish the soundtrack were a little consistence, but since I can load my own, it more than makes up for it. Hopefully in the next one they'll get one artist to work on the whole thing. I'm hoping for Amon Tobin, who has at least one 'hidden' track in the game.

PS3 exclusive content: 2 different main routs and 6 ways to play it (3 trick and 3 race). I'm happy I own a PS3, but I'm sad to hear xbox fans are missing out. It won't be forever though, the box says content is exclusive until 8/29/12. The mountain is fun, but definitely not an easy course. Both routes feel similar honestly, so it mostly feels like 1 track with both trick and race options.

Overall: While this is a great overhaul of the series, but the overhaul already needs an overhaul. I'm mostly happy with it, but I can see why others might not be. It's a good scoreboard based game, but that may not appeal to some. I think I'll appreciate this entry in the series, even when a newer better one comes out. Hopefully we'll reminisce on how interesting the death mechanic was and how great it was that they took it out, but that it was a neat idea. I look forward to the next one and hope they listen to everyones complaints and ideas on this one. Inject some character back into the characters, get rid of death (my biggest gripe), bring back punching and real multiplayer (local and online), completely rethink customization (no facebook feel), give a variety of tracks (both memorable and open), have an amazing soundtrack, and you may have yourself the best SSX of all time.

This is a fun game as far as a pure snowboarding, single-player experience is concerned, but unfortunately there are a number of things that are lacking in this title that leave the game falling short of my expectations. If you have an affinity for the previous SSX releases you may be disapppointed as a lot of what made the previous releases great is absent here. Also, if you are looking for a solid multiplayer experience you may want to look elsewhere.

EA has taken a more serious approach to this game. Originally the game was going to be called SSX Deadly Decents, and after negative consumer feedback with regards to the new serious direction taken in the revamped IP they decided to remove Deadly Decents from the title and just call it SSX. However, it doesn't appear that they made any attempt to alter the original game they programmed based on this consumer feedback. It is a shame because I feel like EA completely ignored the feedback from their fan base and said we are giving you the game we made whether you like it or not. So the game ends up feeling less like an SSX game and more like a survival snowboarding game. That aside, if you are new to the franchise you may not have the nostalgia associated with previous iterations of the game and find the snowboarding gameplay fun in its own right. They have tried to add a little bit of a story to the game through some comic book pages in between mountains, but it is superficial at best.

The basic premise of the game is that you are traveling around the globe to recruit members to your SSX team. Each member is specialized to handle one of the unique challenges each of the 9 mountain ranges presents. Each mountain range starts with you competing in a few race and tricky events and finishes with you taking on a deadly descent. You can think of each mountain range having one peak that is a boss battle the deadly descent survival final stage. So for one mountain range the deadly descent may be darkness, another avalanches, etc., with specialized gear being required to handle each unique challenge presented. These mountain boss battles or survival runs include whiteouts (use special goggles for terrain mapping), darkness (headlamp), drop offs (requires a wingsuit to glide over crevices), ice (ice picks to improve turning ability), extreme cold (solar panel for heat), thin air (oxygen tank), rocks (armor), avalanches, and trees.

Some of the game highlights and drawbacks are outlined below:

PROS:

-The controls are tight making it easy to carve up the mountain and perform stunts.

-Athough pretty limited, the soundtrack is decent. I do wish there was a little more variety provided in the music included.

-The landscapes are large and beautiful with some pretty long runs down the mountain.

-There are a number of game modes (racing, trick events, survival events) and a larger number of locations/trails to decend than I expected.

-The ability to purchase a number of upgrades to each snowboarder is a plus.

-Several welcome nuances have been added to the gameplay on the various mountains that require specialized gear to survive descents like headlamps, wing suits, armor, ice picks, and solar panels. These subtle changes to gameplay help keep the game interesting.

-A GEOTAG system has been added that basically allows you and other players to hide markers on the various slopes. The player who dropped the GEOTAG collects money at a certain rate until the marker is discovered and other players that find the marker get money for locating the marker. It can be fun trying to find the perfect spot to hide a marker and trying to figure out how to reach those hard to reach GEOTAGS you see glimmering in the distance.

-I do think the survival aspects added to the game are a welcome addition, but I wish more emphasis was placed on the SSX brand and less on the deadly descent aspects.

CONS:

-The over the top personalities of the characters developed in earlier iterations of this game are non-existent so you really don't develop an attachment to any of the characters. Also, even though you can change the color of of your character's snowsuit, there doesn't appear to be any unique alternative character models like in previous SSX games. The base character models have changed for some of the characters making them not really feel like the same character you use to know.

-The lack of real live head to head competition really hurts the game. Beating the ghost of a friend just isn't the same as racing or tricking right next to them. Although the GEOTAG system is a fun little add-on, multiplayer feels very underdeveloped and tacked on.

-Although there are unique aspects to the mountains in terms of terrain (ice versus rock versus forrest), the differences are subtle. There was a real distinction in various locations in the previous SSX games that is lacking here.

In the past few days a problem has risen in my ability to connect to Ridernet ( the online aspect of the game). This is an issue other gamers are also having. While it isn't affecting every user, it is affecting both 360 and PS3 versions of the game. I have contacted EA about the problem, but they have yet to get back to me. Given this latest turn of events I cannot recommend that anyone buy this game until the issue is resolved. Also, given the lackluster multiplayer I would also wait until the price drops before picking this title up. I was enjoying the game for what it was worth up to the point where my technical issue developed but I admit that I am left partially disappointed by the neutering of the personality associated with SSX tricky.

EDIT:

Since I wrote my review I did get a fix from EA on the Ridernet issue. I am providing the solution below for anyone playing it on the PS3 that is experiencing this problem (although I did not get credit for GEOTAGS still left in the game world, it does appear to work)

"Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

Firstly, I apologize for the issue caused to you while connecting to rider-net,therefore I request you to follow these step to make issue fix:

1. Start the game up as usual WITHOUT being signed into PSN.

2. Once at the main screen when you have World Tour/Explore/Global Events, go to Global Events and it'll prompt you

to sign into PSN.

3. Sign into PSN, and it'll likely not connect to RiderNet still.

4. Press PS button and SIGN OUT of PSN. Press PS button again to go back to game.

5. The game will come up with an error saying you were disconnected from the servers. Hit Cancel

6. Press PS button again and SIGN IN to PSN.

7. Now go to Global Events, and do the "sync" thing when you see it at the top left with "select".

8. You're now connected despite seeing the icon in the bottom right saying "Connecting to RiderNet and it will

connect for you.

So here is the deal. For me, this game came to my attention by surprise and the title itself was kinda (in my opinion) "under the radar" in terms of both marketing and publicity. At least, at first...now, the fact that this game is already sold out (first day) on Amazon speaks volumes as to how much "word of mouth" has taken this game. So if you've played the demo (which is exceptional) and still are unsure whether or not to purchase the game, then perhaps I can lend a hand and help you make a more informed decision.

Multiplayer: Okay, normally I don't start off with this topic, however this seems to be the one that people have the most concern about, therefore I feel I must address this first. There are basically two different types of multiplayer modes essentially. The first type is when you play in "Explore" mode. Technically this is a single player type mode, however I'll give it the "multiplayer seal of approval" because basically in this mode, if you have a friend that has played a certain course, it will let you compete with a "ghost" of them. Kinda like how back in (for example) Mario Kart (for those of you that have played it) or just about any racing game (like Gran Turismo) for that matter in which you would do a "Time Trial" and try and race against a ghost of yourself to beat your time. Well in this case, you're competing against the saved ghost of a friend (whether by beating their time or a certain amount of points). The other type of multiplayer mode, is basically the same thing, except rather than being limited to just your friend's times/scores you are competing in "Global Events" against the vast majority of those who own/rent SSX (provided they have an "Online Pass." If you're wondering if this game has at-home splitscreen multiplayer capabilities...I regret to inform you that it does not, so if that is a "deal breaker" toward purchasing this game, I would recommend searching elsewhere.

Gameplay: In short, for what it is, it's top notch. Getting more detailed however, there are game modes to endure. I already mentioned above the "Global Events" and "Explore" modes, yet also there is somewhat of a story mode called "World Tour" mode. This is where you can unlock all of the characters (although you can also unlock them by purchasing them with in-game credits) and also learn the basics of the game and the different types of gear that can be used to enhance/help you through each course. Basically there are 9 regions (and also as a PS3 exclusive, a Japan Mt. Fuji level is included in "Explore" mode) to explore each with several courses that you can play through. These courses are split into three categories: Race, Tricks, and Survival. The first two are pretty much self-explanatory, and as for "Survival," that basically puts your boarder up against various extreme conditions and you're given a certain type of gear to help aid you through the challenge (whether it be an oxygen tank to help you survive thin air at Mt. Everest, or an Ice Axe to help you board more smoothly on overly icy surfaces). Each character n the game levels up, and as they do so, you can purchase new gear to improve their performance; I haven't seen it all yet, but so far there seems to be a decent amount of customization. Anyway, having said all that, there is a lot of replay value in all of this (especially if you're into collecting trophies and such). It's actually kinda cool to try and outscore or beat your friend's records...a very satisfying feeling if I may say so myself.

Graphics: Very well done. No, they're not phenomenal, however you can clearly tell that both time and effort was put into trying to make this snowboarding experience a feast for the eyes. All the locations and various weather conditions are accurately portrayed here in this game. So if you're the type of gamer where "looks" are important, then I can safely say you will not be disappointed here.

Sound: Overall, the sound here is not too bad. The soundtrack itself used during the game is actually fairly enjoyable, however the voice acting is mildly cheesy...also the things that the characters say is kinda cheesy as well...Yet this game isn't suppose to be serious. It's a sports fantasy that let's players enact their wildest dreams at the touch of a button, so with that in mind, I'll let the "cheesy factor" slide, since it is all in good fun!

Controls: Personally, I find them fairly easy to get use to. For those of you that may be veterans of the series, the game allows you to switch to-and-from an SSX Classic controls setting (which is actually pretty neat). Yet aside from that, I haven't really had any trouble with either bad camera angles or controls what so ever, which is a definite plus!

Alright, now with that out of the way, here are what my scores for the game itself would be:

Graphics: 4/5

Controls: 4/5

Sound: 5/5

Multiplayer: 4/5

Gameplay: 5/5

Overall: 4.5/5

To be honest, it's hard for me to give the game a score of a "4.5/5" cause in my opinion, that seems a little low. It really is a great title and it is a rather enjoyable arcade-style action experience, but then again, I have to force myself to realize that it isn't exactly perfect...the multiplayer is great, but COULD have been better (especially with the use of at-home splitscreen). Either way, these are just my own thoughts and personal opinions on the game. Hopefully with this review you can pick up a copy and see for yourself! Bottom line, I'd definitely say to AT LEAST give this game a rent, but I would definitely say it warrants a purchase (if you're into these sorts of games). :)

Update (March 4, 2012): Alright, I've had quite a bit of playtime with this game since receiving it on it's release date and I must say, this game truly is incredible. I didn't think I'd end up clocking in as much time with this game as I already have but life is full of surprises. It would be a crime for me to not STRONGLY recommend this game. There is nothing quite like that "rush" or feeling you get when you take down a friend's score or beat their time in an event and you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you choose not to AT LEAST pick this up as a rental. Again, I know I'm slightly being redundant here, but the purpose of this update is to show that my stance on the game hasn't declined, in fact, it may have grown even better!

Update: (March 6, 2012): I've earned 52% of the trophies now for the game (there are 37 trophies in all for those wondering), so I've put in a decent amount of time playing this. I'm going to change my score for the "Sound" category from "4/5" to "5/5." Why? Well as another reviewer mentioned, you can edit the music that plays in-game with a playlist/songs of your own (provided that you've uploaded them onto your PS3). Nothing quite like racing to the sounds of "Paradise City" or "Party Rock Anthem." This is a really neat feature that I believe more games should implement in the future. Anyway, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Update number 1: (3/5/2012)

After playing it a few more days to continue my review, this game just keeps on giving me awesome replay value. First off, when -allof your friends are offline, you can race their ghost and try to beat their high score, race time, and survive it meters.

My recommendation : Stick with 1 of your favorite snowboarders because you can get amazing experience points and everything with 1 person. If you skip around with different people, you won't level up for certain globe areas.

The best race option in my opinion is, is "survive it". It puts you on a corse where you have to survive it, huge jumps, big cliff drops, AVALANCHES, etc. Even on some you have to have oxygen tanks (Mt Fuji). There are different types of survive it, type 1 and 2. Type one is extremely fast paced in your normal 3rd person view. Type 2 is the hardest and it's set in a opposite facing panned out 3rd person view that's kind of wonky at first. But you definitely get used to it.

Will update later with more information, again, I wouldn't listen to the 1 star reviews, seem like trolls to me.

Goodluck!

(original review)

Bought the game yesterday and it's honestly the most fun game I have played on this current gen consoles. This is exactly what this generation was missing, an arcade-like, super fun snow boarding game.

You can customize everything, there are loads of maps to play on, there is online multiplayer, challenge friends scores, all sorts of goodies that everyone likes.

It's exceedingly easy to play, not one hiccup with controls, you can customize the controls to your liking. What I did was just made the controls similar to Tony Hawk style of controls so I could sort of already be used to the design.

My rating would easily be a 9+/10, it's just too fun not to rate otherwise.

It seems like people need to do their research before they spend 60 dollars on a videogame, it's not really the games fault that you can't read, it's your fault.

Thank you for reading.

I played the original SSX games and bought this one because I was feeling nostalgic. Here are a few points on the game:

-No split screen multiplayer, which was a major bummer.

-Maps are very mountainous and have many many different ways to get to the bottom.

-Single player mode has players riding down various challenges and each new area requires a new subtle tweak to the gameplay. For example, some maps require a squirrel suit so you can glide over large gaps in the mountain. Others require ice picks so you can turn on the ice. Basically this just adds another interesting level of depth to the gameplay, which is otherwise riding a snowboard down a mountain.

-Basically you ride the gnar pow down the mountain as quickly as possible or string tricks together in order to get massive scores.

Not as great as the originals in my opinion, but an interesting game none the less. Check out a full game review elsewhere for more!

I really enjoy this headset even though it is very basic. It's great that you can attach the ring around your neck which also has a mic at the end of the band. The mic picks up my voice really well but also picks up anything else in the room. The ear piece fits perfectly in my ear but I've noticed that it projects the volume a little loud and because it doesn't have a volume control button, this can be problematic. The USB cord is over 13 feet long so i can move all around the room with it still being on. What i dont like about the headset is that it is very basic. No mute button, which is a must for most gaming headsets, same with a volume control. Last gripe i have is that i noticed when testing my voice through the PS3 accessory control setup is that it sounds a beeping noise i guess to acknowledge that it is on. With two of my friends that i ave tested it with, they say that it is very faint but still, why would it do that? I got this on sale for $20 dollars and i'm really pleased with it. According to my friends, they say my voice sounds clear as day and same with the receiving end.

Pros:

great cord length

Great design

comfortable

Cons:

Very basicno mute button, volume control

could put padding on the end of the neck ring

Just got this item and I have to say, I was anticipating something that was a little more then what I got. Now don't get me wrong, this is a good item, but I thought it would help eliminate the outside noise that you can hear all too well when using a regular Bluetooth headset. Having got this little gripe out of the way, let's break down the item.

Pros

-----

1. Comfort-I give this a solid 4 stars for comfort. Only the very ends of the Headset, where the mic is located, actually have any force against the neck. Put one hand on top of the other and set them in your lap, that about how much pressure you would feel, so this is very comfortable. As for the ear piece, it's light and while it looks like it would be bulky or awkward, it was obviously well designed. I barely feel it in my ear, yet it gives clear sound at a good volume level. And even with the piece in my ear, I can clearly hear someone talking to me out of that same ear.

2. Clarity -Here I have to break this down into two sections. First is the clarity of the mic. Having done a quick initial test recording of normal speech, as well as whispering, it was easy to hear my voice in each case. However, if you mumble your words or don't pronounce them too clearly, it could be a bit difficult for your team to hear the correct words. I give the mic 3 stars. (side note){Yes, I said recording. I plugged the headset into my computer first, just to see if it would work, and it functioned perfectly.}

-For the earpiece, clarity is still pretty decent. Listening to me own voice is fine, but if your an audiophile, you wouldn't want to listen to music with this. (If your an audiophile and you like listening to music with this earpiece, your not an audiophile at all, stop lying to yourself.) For plain ol' comm use, I give this 3.5 stars.

3. Ease of Use -The cord is just as advertised. In a word, massive. I could walk almost across my living room and forget about the wire most of the way, till it tugged the USB out of the port. And even using the headset with my computer, it was a simple PlugandPlay. Nothing to worry about later, no disks to lose, just sweet, sweet gaming. 4 stars.

Cons

----

1. Outside Noise -Now as I noted before, this thing does still pick up some ambient sounds. Don't expect to be able to play and only ever have your voice be heard over the comm system. That being said, I bought the headset hoping for no outside sound being picked up, so I'm kinda disappointed. Not enough to send this back, but be aware of the limitations of something that, considering what a real throat mic goes for, can be considered cheap.

2. Cord -Honestly, I first unwound the cord, and then had to keep unwinding. I took for granted just how long this thing really is, use a tape measure to see how far 13 ft really is, if you don't already know. Your going to want some way to keep the cord in check, even while your using it. A rubber band or even the twist-tie that it comes packaged with should work just fine, though I recommend a CableCuff myself. I use the small ones for most of my small electronics wires, they work like a charm with just about everything, this monster cord included. The real reason I consider so much cord to be con is because they don't give a good way to keep it out of your way. Unless your sitting near a wall or something, there's a good chance someone could trip over the cord and either yank the headset off your neck, or even damage the cord. A little care is more then enough to combat this problem though, so it's not a major pain in the neck. (Joke intended)

Overview

----

The long cord is a mixed blessing, and this is a cheap member if it's product family. That being said, it's still a good buy, and it doesn't need constant charging like a well-used Bluetooth will. Even if I don't always use this, it's a good backup for if my Bluetooth fails, or if I need to charge the wireless headset. A solid buy if your looking for a good gaming mic.

3.5 stars overall.

This came fast and was a birthday gift for my son. It took a little while to get it set up, and all you can hear in the headphones is the talking, you will have to play the background sound/music through your regular speakers.

One day he got up and touched it and due to dry winter weather he shocked it and it was fried after that. So be careful with this when you go to touch it, Touch something else first.

...or watching Barry Sanders singlehandedly shred a defense for a 40-yard TD run. I've been glued to this game since I brought it home...

THE GOOD: the graphics and sound are amazing. Much better than the Madden line of games. The game is supposed to be rendered in 1080p, but comes on in 720p for some reason on my TV. I went into the PS3's display settings and turned off 720p, and that fixed the issue. Players retain dirt and scuffs on their uniforms, and celebrations after TD's and sacks are excellent. The game really gets the feel for each individual player. Gone are the ratings based on 0-100 scales. When you choose a player, it tells you exactly what this player does well. You have total control of every single player on the field in pre-snap: hot routes, blocking schemes, formation switches and audibles all before you hike the ball; zone coverage, blitzing, shifting, drop off and pinching on defense...all of this can be tailored for each player one at a time, meaning, for instance, you can blitz your weak side LB ("Will") by hitting 3 buttons. You really have to learn the button layout, though.

The gameplay is fluid and fast, but not too fast. The QB can slide in the pocket, duck under and avoid sacks with the ease of the Left control stick. RB's and WR's have a slew of moves. What's different here? Used to be, players moved on a horizontal axis, making them look and act almost like horses on a merry-go-round, with a pole running up through them. Now, player movement is very fluid, very smooth, and players you would expect to just seem to "glide"...OJ Simpson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, etc. After years of playing both the Madden games and the 2K games, I'd have to say that this version looks the most realistic--the tackles, the moves, the blocking, players knocked off balance, the ball movement...your QB will even throw a wobbler into the ground (or worse--into the air and up for grabs) when he is hit as he throws.

Also, it's great to be able to build your own team of NFL Legends. Right now, I have 4 teams which I've built, including designing their home and away uniforms, and I compete with each of them. You'll be pleasantly surprised by many of the names included in the game--too many to name here. The CPU teams are made up of legends as well, though, so be prepared to get your butt kicked the first time you play.

Essentially, you pick 11 players from the "legend" database. This field of players is broken down into 3 tiers: Gold, Silver and Bronze. You get to choose 2 gold players, 3 silver players and 6 bronze. The game fills the rest of your roster with random players; suspiciously with familiar names (my back up QB's name is "Archuleta"). True, you don't get to pick anyone beyond the 11 legends, but the random players are pretty darn good, and you do get to choose how the roster is filled: your extra WR's can be balanced, possession or deep threats; your extra RB's can be finesse or power runners; your D-linemen can be run stoppers are pass rushers, etc. I've heard complaints be early reviewers about the uniforms, but as long as no one's in pink, who cares what they are wearing? The uniforms are OK, and you create your own when you make a team from the helmet to the shoes. Also, the stadiums are absolutely over-the-top. One has a huge shark coming through the top of the scoreboard...it's awesome.

THE BAD: there are negatives to this title. You can only play with your created teams. I would love to play with the team called "LEGENDS" as it has 11 gold tier players on it, but it is a CPU only team. The choices for gameplay are very, very thin. You can play a quick game with one of your created teams against a CPU team, or start a season, where you basically play a round-robin against the other CPU teams, then go to a playoff series. If you do win the league championship at the end, it's over. This was a real downer for me. This is also why I created 4 teams, because I really wanted to play with Ditka, Night Train Lane, Eugene Robinson, Reggie White, John Elway, Ronnie Lott, etc. etc. etc., but you can only have 11 legends on your team at a time.

It seems the developers spent way more time on the offense. As fluid as it is, the defensive backfield is still a tad shaky in it's player movement (a la NCAA Football 06 or 07), especially strafing, and potential INT's seem to bounce right off DB's chests and facemasks. Watching a sack unfold is gorgeous, though, and linemen can swim, club, spin and bullrush to gain an advantage over their blocker, which makes rushing the QB the most fun aspect of playing defense.

Kicking is a nightmare. 2K uses the right stick, much like the EA games do, but there's no kick meter. You pull the stick back to start the whole process, and right before the kicker actually makes contact with the ball, you thrust the stick forward. You won't know if you did it right until you see the flight of the ball. A text indicator comes on screen to let you know how well your timing and aiming was, but it's an after thought--if your kick was bad, you'll know as it sails out of bounds.

Online play can't really be reviewed here, as there aren't many players out there yet. I'm sure by next week, it will be jamming. There are quite a few options out there, though, like Tournament play, online seasons, custom play and quick play, and all are separated by difficulty level. I saw one profile player already had a record of 12-1 as of last night (the day the game hit the shelves) but there were only 44 others players online at the time, so wait for later reviews to discuss online play.

ALL IN ALL, I love this game, and it has exceeded my expectations in so many ways, but it falls short in a couple of small but key aspects: the anonymous "extra" players (who have no visible ratings), the thin gameplay options, the frustrating circus that is "kicking," and the dropped INT's. But nowhere else can you find this vast field of NFL Hall of Famers. I can only compare it to last year's games, so it may be unfair, but I will say that this game blows Madden 07 away in nearly every aspect of actual gameplay, but not in it's menu items.

First thing first, judge this game for what it is not what it isn't. Clearly, this game is not Madden and it's not an NFL licensed game, however, it's a great football game. The football play is first rate and it's equally fun to play both offense and defense. I've played multiple defensive positions and they're all solid. The concept is great and it's a lot of fun to build your team from the Gold, Silver and Bronze players from the Hall of Fame. I own Madden 2008 as well, which is also a good game, however, I find myself keep coming back to All Pro Football, it's just a hell of a lot of fun to play.

All Pro Football 2k8 = slightly juiced up NFL 2k5

Now I'm not saying that this game is not fun, as you can tell by my fun rating. I enjoy the game very much. 2k sports continues to put out a line of quality products and most importantly, a good football game. Being able to play with the retired legends in this game is amazing and jumping right into the fantasy draft was awesome. Everything I loved about 2k5 was here.............

With that being said....... This game is basically a souped up version of 2k5.... and I'm talking Honda Civic with three different colors of body kits souped up. The graphics are honestly not that impressive, for a next gen game I would expect more. The controls feel a little sloppy at times, especially on defense when trying to tackle some of the legendary backs or receivers in this game. Lastly, the commentary sounds completely recycled from NFL 2k5 (although, there was a rather funny discussion that went one between Peter and Dan about them never hugging).

I have enjoyed APF 2k8 so far, it's a refreshing change from Madden. The overall gameplay is fantastic, you don't run into your lineman's backs and stop, your runner adjusts and turns to get by them. The way that the players interact is PHENOMINAL!! Your running back is never down from just the slightest contact with the defense. If you have a shifty back like Barry Sanders and throw a spin move on a 300 pound linemen or linebacker, a lot of times he is gonna leave them reaching for air just like Barry DID!! On the flip side! There is also gonna be that situation tho when he gets bottled up and one guy will stand him up and here comes two linebackers to take you down for a loss. These are the kind of small things that make football games enjoyable.

To sum it up, Will APF 2k8 give Madden a run for it's money?? Probably not this year. APF 2k8 is an excellent start for the 2k series into the next gen console market, but there in lies the problem. Dated graphics and features really hold this one back from being an excellent title without the BUT after words.

First of all. If you aren't going to rate this product with an open mind, please:

A) Put your hand down

and

B) Do NOT write a review for this game

With that said I am going to give you my ratings, per my personal catagories, also; please note that I am not going by stars, but thumbs (I.E.Two equals excellent, One and Two Thirds equals great, One and One-Half equals good, et al.):

Fun: Two Thumbs Up

Obviously, this game happens to be the most inthralling game that I have played. You litterally feel like if you were in the game! Hearing home the crowd go off for every hard hit, every defensive stance, and every touchdown. It is 100% mesmerizing to watch a game, let alone play it, you hear the crowd chant, and the ruckus that is in the crowd is truely amazing. Obviously, 2K Sports have done their homework, and it is surreally done.

Plus, it is ALWAYS fun to have a Sweetness-Moose-Rice Combination on your team (Like mine). Good memories.

Gameplay: Two Thumbs Up

Although the physics engine looks GREAT, there are very minute things that would need to be tweaked. Things like when a diving defensive player goes to stop a Runner/Wide Reciever. They dive, but it is like the player bounces off of the player, then fall to the ground.

While this is pretty entertaining to watch this, it would still be much more believable if the defensive player looks to at least go for a shoe-string tackle.

But other than that, it still is a good physics engine. Plus, you cannot discount the bonus of having to taylor your game to your opponent. Things like, when you see that your opponent's defense has one side

loaded with Bronze/Silver/Gold Linemen or Linebackers, you could opt out to run to the opposite side, or you could try your luck going to that side; if your opponent has all-star Cornerbacks and Safeties, you could opt out to either use your running game, or try your luck passing.

This included into the bonuses that your star players possess all of this adds on to the realisim of the game; added onto their characteristics and mannerisims.

Plus, this whole give-and-take strategy proccedes throughout the game. It is a real jewel of this game. You could have the best offense, but if your opponent has the best defense, it becomes a struggle; which is something that is TRUELY realistic of this game.

Graphics: One and One Half Thumbs

While I could go on, and on, about the amazing job that Take Two have done on the Gameplay of this game.

Too bad that I can't say the same about the graphics. This happens to be the only weak spot on the game. While pretty good, it still looks only a little better than that of a PS2.

While the stadiums are beautifully designed, it still looks fairly choppy, something that you'd wouldn't expect on a PS3. The character models looks very good also. Too bad that this game suffers from arms, legs, and sometimes shoulders dissappearing into their opponents/teamates.

Again, this is something that one would have expected to see in a PS1/PS2 game, but with the power and design ceilings that the newer generation systems have, it is concerning that this little kink could not have been fixed through the proccess.

Another thing that is concerning is the field construction (or should I say distruction). It still looks like the field destroys in a manner of the last gen systems. Where you only see moderate distruction on the field during rainy games.

This was something that I saw applied better in Madden 2007, reguarless of how pathetic that freshman attempt at a next generation game, during a rainy game, you could see puddles develop in certain parts of the field, thoughout the game.

While the game could do much better on the physics and graphics department, this are fairly minor gripes to a SURPREMELY good game.

Highly recommended for purchase and rental, and I am offically sold on All Pro Football series, and cannot wait to see better impovement to the graphics and physics systems; along with a couple of add-ons of a career and other single player modes.

Therefore, I am giving this game a grade of One and Three Quaters thumbs up!

Overall Rating: One and Two-Thirds Thubs up!

A great game, and if you are ANY bit of an American Football fan, it is HIGHLY advisable to have this game in your collection.

if you want realistic football with suction tackles or tumble-weed animations, this is the game to get. you really have to have skill to play this game, even on rookie. the movements and animations are so real with realistic head tracking on the ball, meaning if your receiver or cornerback is not looking at the ball, he's not going to catch it. this is the only game where you can have Jerry Rice and John Elway on the same team.

Me and my brother had been looking for an alternative to the PS3 controller for a long time, as we prefer the placement of the analog sticks on the 360 controller. Our first attempt was to try the Baterang Controller, which was a terrible decision, as it had a very noticeable delay. When we found out about these adapters for the 360 controller, we promptly bought one. It arrived on time and in great condition. I was a bit worried when I saw the packaging. It was a cheap looking package that tried to resemble the official Microsoft packaging. My first reaction to seeing this was that it would be a very cheaply made product that would not function properly. Thankfully upon using it I realized that I was wrong. The response time on button pushes has no noticeable difference (if at all). The movements are very fluid. Now I just hope that this little guy lasts for at least a year. To anyone who is skeptical about this product, I highly recommend that you give it a try.

Very much works fine for the N64 system. Very hard to find a unit that will connect to your tv in where the cable wire goes. This one connects perfect. No issues!! From previous reviews and from pictures it's hard to tell if this will hook up to the back of your tv but it will.

UPDATE: Just wanted to give a quick update. Unit is still running fine but the picture quality is not as good as the NyKo N64 wire avalible from Amazon. If you want the best picture quality, go with the NyKo cord. The NyKo cord also plugs into where the cable wire goes in the back of the tv. Picture Quality is dramtically improved as well as sound on the NyKo. I own both.

I have used these in the past, and I thought they worked fine. That is UNTIL ... I don't know what happened, and NOW the two that I have (one on an Xbox and one on N64) are all the sudden not allowing the cable to come through. Don't waste your money.. buy something that will work for more than a few months.

Although I think the seller should be more descriptive in the item page, the product shipped fast and works perfectly.

The cable is in no way distorted when using the RF swtich, and the picture comes out fine. It works for my GCN/Xbox, I don't have a PS1/2 to try it out with.

I was having a hard time choosing between this game, Darksiders and Bayonetta and I think I made the right choice. For starters this game is alot of fun. The graphics are really good, picture perfect. The gameplay is good also lots of duck, cover, and fire. The AI seems way more responsive and better than the last game with different commands you issue your partner,Also you can switch from a right angle OTS to left angle OTS witch is really helpfull for those enemies who are hard to see on either side of the screen. One thing I have a problem about this game just like any other action game that has come out for the ps3 and xbox 360 is the lenght of the single player campaign. I've played the game for 3 hours now and I'm already on the 3rd chapter, I checked my trophie menu on my ps3 and counted only 5 chapters in the game. This is the reason I play rpg's because you actually get your $60 dollars worth. Videogame companies spend too much time trying to make the online gaming experience so great that they make the regular playthrough so short. Not alot of people can play online so they can only hope that the game is long enough to make it worth there while and money.I have not played online yet so I can't tell you if it is good or not, from what I've read it is alot of fun. Oh yeah I didn't mention the weapon upgrades, there are plenty of awsome weapons witch can be upgraded with different components that you either find throughout the game or you get depending on some situation choices that you make during your game. So besides my one complaint about the game beng short, it is a really fun game and probably even better if you play with a friend.

Although, I haven't had this very long but, from what I've played is extremely satisfying this game rocks. I love the weaponry and cutscenes and dialogue already in this game. The storymode so far in this is interesting, that gives it great single and co-op play, the AGGRO system in here very sharp and pleasing, you should love faking surrenders and faking death in a hard place, the graphicss are good but not as good as MW2. This game does however bring back something I love which is BDA (bullet damage action) if you're using the right weapon and give someone a headshot you blow their head off, which really makes a shooter worthy of M ratings. I played all of the online multiplayer modes and they're all great, they strongly enforce teamwork which is what this type of game is all about. Oh yeah cannot forget about the weapon and mask and armor customization I designed my mask and armor and they're just what I expected them to be you should be pleased too. Now for my ratings STORYMODE 5stars, GAMEPLAY 5stars, GRAPHICS 4STARS, MULTIPLAYER 3stars and CO-OP 5stars. This one kick-ass game you won't regret. ARMY OF TWO: THE 40th DAY 5stars

Never played the original so this was a new experience for me and won't be able to comment on comparisons to the first one. AoT: 40th Day is 3rd person shooter specifically designed for co-op play, online or split-screen. The premise of the game is to traverse through Shanghai killing bad guys while making moral decisions along the way that will affect the outcome of the game and the relationship with your partner. The game focuses on drastic customization of your weapons (e.g., adding a AK-47 barrel to an M4, or a screw driver bayonet to the end of your shotgun) and the ability to draw fire from the enemy in order to get your partner to tacticlly flank them. There some other features like feigning your death, mock surrenders and syncronized sniper shots.

Overall the game is okay, but it seems the bad leveled out the good. The game does NOT save after you customize a weapon only after checkpoints; if you waste 4-5 minutes toying with your weapons and die...you have to do it over again. Speaking of dying (which will happen a lot), if you die in a fight that required a cut scene you have to watch the cut scene everytime you restart CANNOT BE SKIPPED. Pretty annoying. The bosses are cliched; armored gatling gunner...flame thower guy with weak point in the back. The customization is cool, but some of the stuff is so ridiculous it seems pointless they added it: bubbled camoflauge? soda can silencer? Depsite the stats of some weapons, they basically seemed the same to me. Lastly, this is the only game for the PS3 that ever frozen.

As mentioned this game is decent, but there are way too many other games out there like MW2 and Uncharted 2 that just seem to make this game feel like a waste of time. Will not be conducting a second playthrough.

Pros:

Extremely detailed; added a cool scope to your AK?...it's in the cutscenes.

Nice cut scenes on outcome of moral decisions moments.

Some nice weapon customizations.

Fun co-op, takes some tactical decisions to be made as opposed to rushing a situation.

Cons:

No auto-save feature after weapon customization. Annoying.

Cannot skip cut-scenes. Even more annoying, especially if your stuck on a boss.

Some dumb weapon customizations; who wants a flowered painted RPG?

Weak focus on melee combat.

May freeze on you; could be faulty copy though.

Only 3 pistols? WTF.

I was one of the few who enjoyed the first one. I really loved the co-op play. The second one is much improved. The basic game play is the same but the AI is really improved. Playing with a friend online is great and playing with the AI is still pretty good. The storyline is a lot of fun, although fairly short. There are 7 levels and each one only takes about 30 minutes. I played the online multi player a bit but was not a big fan. It just cannot compete with good multi players like Modern Warfare 2 so I quickly lost interest.

Overall, a good game and a lot of fun to play. Also, it has fairly easy trophies if you are into trophies.

The first Army of two (Ao2) game concluded with our heroes Elliot Salem and Tyson Rios deciding to form their own private military company together known as Trans World Operations (T.W.O.). The sequel takes place a couple of years after this. While on a routine mission in Shanghai, China Rios and Salem find themselves trapped in a city underseige. Their initial reaction is to locate their mission coordinator Alice Murray and to leave the city; however things aren't quite so simple. They'll have to use their wits, skills, and teamwork to fight for every inch of ground in this city. Along the way they'll have to make life or death decisions that'll test the strength of their bond.

The sequel makes many improvements over the original game while still managing to maintain the best parts of the previous game. This time around if you're playing in solo campaign mode your AI partner is much more intelligent. If you're wounded your partner will not drag you right in to the enemies' line fire so that you can both die. Also it doesn't matter what part of the game you're in you can command your partner to take the lead versus the original game where even if you wanted them to go first at certain points they wouldn't.

Other improvements to the game play include the use of the shield. Instead of always sharing a shield now both people can take a shield and split up to take on the enemy. Both characters' can also sprint at any time, which is really useful in some areas. Now you can customize your weapons at any point during the game when you're not in battle instead of going shopping before and at the end of missions like in the first game. There are now new options in how you engage the enemies. You don't have to kill them all the time, you can tie them up, or you or your partner can do a mock surrender while the other person takes the enemies out. When you're wounded instead of lying out in the open waiting to be shot now you can drag yourself someplace safe until your partner arrives to heal you. The environment is now destructible which presents a new level of fun. Also depending on the type of gun you use you can blow enemies' heads clean off *weg*. Another noteworthy improvement for the sequel is the visuals. Shanghai is stunning to behold especially the zoo level. Once you beat the game you can unlock different outfits for both Rios and Salem including the original Ao2 gear.

Great things from the 1st game that have returned include the aggro meter. The aggro meter is a gauge that indicates which player is the focus of the enemy's attention. Whichever player has the highest Aggro rating will attract all the enemies towards them. This allows the other player to become virtually invisible and thus sneak up to enemy positions. You can still go back to back at certain points, engage in blind fire, perform step jumps, do the fake death, and the emote factor has returned. The sequel features some new emotes both positive and negative that I'm sure anyone can appreciate.

Let me start off by saying that this game was in a very rough spot when it was being developed. The first Bioshock was and still is one of the greatest games ever made, and seeing as video games are a rare medium where the sequel is almost always better, the bar was set high. I pretty much had my hopes set rather low, as I knew it could never live up to the near-flawless first installment.

So how accurate was I? Its about as good as I thought it would be.

Bioshock 2 is by no means a bad game. Its still Bioshock, you're still in Rapture, and the gameplay is the same with improvements made here and there. But, as my previous statement said, there are things that hold this installment back.

-The Pros-

Even though this isn't the first time we've stepped foot in Rapture and some of the mystery is gone due to that fact it is still full of the same great atmosphere and art design that made the original so great. There are still flickering lights, leaky walls and ceilings, art deco goodness, and a general sense of a lost utopia in every area. There is still the same feeling of nervous excitement and slight fear around every corner.

The gameplay is more or less unchanged, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The shooting is still pretty tight, as is the use of plasmids. You have your standard plasmids and gene tonics from the first game, with a few tweaks here and there such as the ability to use plasmids and weapons at the same time.

There are also some small things that I took notice of and really enjoyed:

Subject Delta (your character) grew on me for some reason. I always found the Big Daddies to be oddly lovable, and this guy is no different.

The drill arm is a great addition to the weapon selection. I found myself using it even late in the game and upgrading it before upgrading my guns.

Guarding the Little Sisters wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I hate escort type missions, and thought I would hate this mechanic, but I wound up loving it. You can also just down the other Daddies and return the Sisters to the vents, without doing the ADAM harvesting part. The Little Sisters are also cute and sometimes funny in what they say, and it was a good choice to allow the player to interact with them more this time around.

(!!SPOILER!!) Later on in the game, you are able to see the world of Rapture as the Little Sisters see it, which is incredibly interesting. During this section, the real decayed Rapture is juxtaposed with the imagined Little Sister-vision Rapture, and it is very powerful when it happens.

(!!SPOILER!!) The Subject Delta/Eleanor relationship was well told, despite the fact that I have several complaints regarding the story.

The opening cinematic gives you a very brief glimpse of life in Rapture before its fall. I found it very interesting even though it barely lasts a minute.

The Cons -

Before I go into the cons, just know that despite everything I say, this game is still good, and still worth playing. When writing reviews, I tend to focus on the negative too much, and the game is not as bad as these cons will make it out to be.

While the fact that the gameplay is unchanged isn't really that bad, it also strikes me as a missed chance to really improve on it. There are really no new weapons or plasmids that strike you as being really "new", as most of them are either unchanged or rehashed versions of other weapons or plasmids from the first game. The fact that you're a Big Daddy also doesn't make that much of a difference. I found my health being depleted rapidly by average splicers, and my blows with weapons or the drill arm not being as effective as they should be. The game tries to write this off as the splicers growing stronger in the ten years since the first game, but it still made a bad impression on me.

Music has seemed to have taken a backseat in this game. The first Bioshock used music to such great effect that I bought the soundtrack. Music is more or less absent in this game. I remember hearing music maybe 4 or 5 times throughout the entire game, compared to the literal dozens of songs heard throughout Rapture in Bioshock 1.

The hacking mechanic being changed is a smaller annoyance I had, as I love the original games hacking minigame a lot more compared to the color/needle game you play in this game.

Something that really confuses me is the graphics. They seem to have gotten worse since Bioshock 1. Low-res textures make several appearances, the water isn't as impressive, and the particle effects are rather pixelated. Graphics aren't really that big of a deal to me, but the obvious downgrade from the first game just confuses me.

The areas explored throughout the game are also relatively lacking. There are no Welcome to Rapture Centers or Fort Frolics in this game.

(SPOILERS ABOUND BELOW)

My absolute biggest complaint about Bioshock 2 is the story. While I wasn't expecting something of Bioshock 1 quality, I was expecting something more than what was presented.

Sofia Lamb, while being a decent antagonist, falls very very short of filling Andrew Ryan's shoes.

Her speeches aren't as fascinating, her motives aren't as clear, and her malevolence isn't as convincing. She tries to be the omniscient voice of Ryan and the villain of Fontaine all at once, and fails.

This is indicative of another problem: the characters. While the characters are still deeper than 95% of characters in other games, the first Bioshock still reigns supreme in this area. Sinclair is a likable character, but pales in comparison to Atlas (Sinclair more or less fills Atlas' role in this game). Grace Holloway plays the role of fallen artist in this game, but never lives up to the mad genius of Sander Cohen. Even the audio logs are lacking due to the characters not being as strong.

The big reveal around the 75% complete mark in this game was also unremarkable. Expect no "Would you kindly?" or "Atlas is Fontaine". I didn't even understand the significance of the twist in this game. I was unaffected by it completely.

There is also no final boss fight, no satisfying explanation for the Big Sisters, and no sense of closure that approaches the first games'.

My last complaint story-wise is about Tenenbaum. Despite being the only character from the first game in this game, she makes one appearance and then COMPLETELY disappears from the game. You aren't even told what becomes of her. This really frustrated me.

Despite all of my complaints, this is still a very solid game and worth playing. Especially if you've played the amazing first game. However, if you're new to this series, I highly recommend playing the first one to see if you like this type of game.

I loved Bioshock; I became immediately immersed in it and spent well over 20 hours completing it during my first playthrough because there was so much to explore in the game. Bioshock 2 is no different. What a cool game Bioshock 2 is so far. Let me say up front that I haven't finished it, and I don't want to be finished. I have played for over 6 hours and I don't get the impression that I'm remotely close to finishing.

After 6 hours, I'm sure that I could have gotten a lot farther in the game than I am a lot faster, but you can prolong the game by exploring areas that may not be the most direct route to your goal. And I spend a lot of time exploring. These little explorations are usually fruitful, because hidden throughout the expansive game are all kinds of weapons, perks and information about where you've once again suddenly found yourself captive: In the underwater city of Rapture. (Edit 3/1/10: Finished the game and the game is as good as the rest of this review suggests. Spent, I'd say, well over 15 hours playing. Extensive searching kept my ammo and "Eve" full at all times.)

The game begins with a flashback cutscene with you as a Big Daddy protecting a Little Sister apparently just before the events of the first game. The cutscene ends badly for you, but you are suddenly "reactivated" about 10 years later within Andrew Ryan's utopian city of Rapture now under the control of a woman named Sofia Lamb, and Lamb is not happy to see you. Did I say utopian city? Well, that may have been the original idea, but the Rapture you ultimately find yourself in is the antithesis of a utopia and in even worse shape than in the first Bioshock. I believe the term is dystopia. Anyway, a familiar name contacts you and helps guide you, a Big Daddy, to your goals.

The good news is that in Bioshock 2, unlike Bioshock 1, your peripheral vision isn't limited like it was by the Big Daddy helmet. Remember that part in Bioshock 1 where you became the Big Daddy and you had to escort the Little Sister? That was one of the tougher parts on the game, no? Well, it looks like we're in for a lot of that in Bioshock 2.

You are given goals and roadblocks o'plenty to prevent you from easily reaching your goals. The few people (called Splicers) left in Rapture that you run into have all gone (are still) stark raving mad, and they'll ruin your day or the Little Sister's day that you're trying to protect if you let them get too close. And don't trip a security alarm; it'll summon armed drones and more Splicers. At the beginning of the first level you get a quick glimpse of something that looks a lot worse than a Splicer, and it becomes clear that the gene altering that was going on in the first one has been taken to the next level in this one.

At least it's easier to hack everything from security cameras to drones to vending machines to safes in Bioshock 2. Not only can you hack from a distance by firing a "hack dart" at a machine like a gun turret, the hacking itself is a new timed system that is based on stopping a needle that moves back in forth over a color coded grid versus the first game's complete the puzzle before time runs out system.

You get all kinds of weapons and occasional opportunities to upgrade your weapons. You're well equipped. And this time not only do you get the Big Daddy's Rivet Gun, but also his oversize drill. The drill is quite effective so far on Splicers and saves on precious ammo; there's a new melee attack added to your defense system and a melee with the drill equipped is almost as effective as the drill itself. You get the a camera again too to take pictures that allow you to conduct research on your foes to increase the damage you can inflict on them and lessen the damage that they inflict on you (don't worry...all you have to do is take the dang picture; the research is done automatically).

In addition to the corpses strewn throughout the game that can be searched for goodies, so is ammo, money and other knick-knacks that will help you progress. Just be sure to search everything if you want to maximize your strength. And speaking of maximizing your strength, one of the first things you get are, just like the first game, Plasmids...or put another way...special abilities. Telekinesis. Pyrokinesis. And a bunch of other Plasmid "kinesises" are unlocked pending your ability to find or buy them. Try picking something heavy up with your telekinesis and throwing it at your enemy...better yet, plant a few Trap Rivets on that thing before you toss it! You're also granted "tonics" to customize your character with. Stuff like armor, various strengths, first aid boosts, and secondary damage on your enemies from your weapons or from just plain old being attacked. Really cool stuff.

Unlike most games, but just like Bioshock 1, the game lets you save at any time, and when you restart play it starts you at the exact place you last saved...not at the last checkpoint. Nice. Very nice. So right before you get to what you think might be a tough part...save! Cuz if you play "poorly", you can just quit and try again.

Like any game with redundant enemies (think RE4's ganados or Uncharted's pirates), the Splicers become quite annoying, but I suppose that's the idea. And yup, you even need to battle with other Big Daddies again. And as tough as they are, wait until you have to battle your newest foe, the Big Sister. My first battle with one of these didn't go so well. Thank goodness for the save anywhere feature! You have GOT to remember to hit that first aid button before your health runs out. You reload automatically, and your Plasmids will recharge automatically (if you've got some Eve), but you don't heal automatically.

Your goals change all the time. Just when you think you've attained a critical goal...it backfires or you're immediately given another that requires backtracking...and then backtracking again. But rest assured it never gets boring. The eerie atmospheres and creepy environments that Bioshock's creators have put together are more than effective. Some areas are really creepy, and there's nothing worse than not being able to find your way out of those which isn't always easy. But that's the fun! Oh yeah, and now that you're in the Big Daddy suit, you're even required to make it through some underwater (or should I say in the water) adventures.

If you like shooters or survival / horror games...Bioshock 2 is for you. The first game is really cheap here at Amazon, and I'd highly recommend that you play it first for chronology's sake. But chronology is completely unnecessary for Bioshock 2. Come to think of it....play Bioshock 2 first then play Bioshock 1 as a prequel!

Because one thing that Bioshock 2 has that Bioshock 1 doesn't is Multiplayer mode. This is really fun. Ya know how Modern Warfare 2 was really a multiplayer game with a bonus single player campaign? Well, Bioshock 2 is a single player game with a bonus multiplayer mode. Think Modern Warfare 2 combined with World at War Zombie mode combined with, well, Bioshock. I tried Multiplayer last night and in my first sitting got almost all of the Trophies (for anyone that cares about that). I really bought Bioshock 2 for the single player mode. But the addition of Multiplayer only adds to the hours of good times to be had with this game. Multiplayer is an interesting story driven mode where the player takes on the role of a citizen of Rapture before the events of the first Bioshock.

So is there anything bad about Bioshock 2 so far. Well, if I had to come up with something it'd be that the graphics seem to have received no upgrade whatsoever. After games like Uncharted, you'd think that 2K would have made some improvements in this department, but I'm not seeing it. The Splicers look as cartoonish as it gets. And my only other complaint would be the familiarity that Bioshock 2 has with the original. But that's the idea, right? You are "reborn" into Rapture.

I've heard some talk about how Bioshock 2 is a carbon copy of the first game. And that talk is just ridiculous. Again, take my review for what it's worth since I'm only just getting into it. But after 6 hours I'd say that there's no question here...add this to your cart. This is a 5-star game...whether you've played the first already or not.

(P.S.--I know that video game to big screen conversions mostly seem to fail, but have you heard that there's a movie adaptation of Bioshock with the 28 Weeks Later Director at the helm?)

Buy Bioshock 2 Now

I loved BioShock 1 so much I actually bought it for both my 360 & PS3, this time around I only will review the PS3 version.

Yes the game installs to the hard drive. Now I personally like games that install to the HDD as they run faster during game play. It's a bit longer than 10 minutes for the initial setup, I didn't time it with a stop watch, but the DualShock had turned off, which it does after 10 minutes.

I waited on ordering this until I saw at least 3 reviews on reputable gaming sites. They had some big shoes to fill after BioShock 1, and so far I think they've done an awesome job. I really enjoy exploring the maps making sure I've covered every inch. Most of the enemies are the same so far, with two new additional Boss type monsters that I've encountered so far.

The graphics and sound effects are great, only a few glitches here and there, but nothing worth even really mentioning. No crashes so far, and I've played at least 12 hours, collecting as many trophies as I can.

I'm very much enjoying this, maybe not as much as the first, only because BioShock was so unique at the time. If you liked BioShock 1 you should love 2. There are many new weapon enhancements, and the great plasmid system is still intact.

I've not yet tried the multiplayer, or really have any desire to, and sometimes wish developers would just forget about it and make a longer single player experience.

This will be one of the few "shooters" that gets 3 or more playthroughs. 95% of shooters I play once and move on, so for me it's that good.

Read Best Reviews of Bioshock 2 Here

Note: This review does contain some spoilers. However, they largely pertain to the first game and the spoilers for Bio 2 are stuff you'd find out at the very beginning. Also, I'm writing this under the assumption that people are familiar with the basics of Bioshock and Rapture even if they didn't play the 1st one. Finally, I have not played multiplayer, so I can't vouch for it. With that, on to the review...

Story: Bioshock had one of the best stories in modern gaming, as it took Ayn Rand and ran with it, putting extreme Objectivism in a horror setting Rob Zombie would enjoy and sprinkling on some "Manchurian Candidate" for good measure. It also produced extremely interesting characters. Andrew Ryan is one of the better villains in modern gaming because he has hubris. He truly believes mankind will evolve and thrive with religious morality and all but the bare minimum of government authority absent; he just doesn't understand there is something inherently selfish and evil about humans and that without at least some regulation humanity will descend into chaos, with horrific consequences. Dr. Tenenbaum, the creator of the Little Sisters, is another interesting character, so guilt-ridden by what she's done that by the time the main character, Jack, has stumbled into Rapture she's hard at work trying to restore the Little Sisters to their human form and get them out of Rapture. And then there's Atlas/Fontaine. 'Nuf said. However, I just wasn't really invested in Jack. It wasn't that his character was uninteresting (the Fight Club-esque revelation sees to that); it's just that you're not overly concerned about what happens to him or to the Little Sisters. Also, the ending was abrupt, anti-climatic, and out of place in lieu of everything that had happened. Still, though, Bioshock contained one hell of a story about survival and horrible self-realization.

Bioshock 2's story is set 8 years following the events in the first game. This time, you play an older-model Big Daddy codenamed Delta. As the flashbacks show, 10 years earlier you were following your adopted Little Sister around (having developed an unusually strong bond with her) when suddenly Dr. Sophia Lamb (the new antagonist) uses a Hypnotize Plasmid to force you to blow your brains out. However, now you've been revived via a Vita-Chamber, and you're now desperately searching the ruins of Rapture for your lost Little Sister, Eleanor. The guiding philosophy of Dr. Lamb is the polar opposite of Ryan's. She's a collectivist, believing in "the greatest good for the greatest number", even if it means murdering people and kidnapping little girls from the surface and taking them down to Rapture to be transformed into Little Sisters. The problem is, Dr. Lamb is just not a great villain; she's just Nurse Rached (of "Cuckoo's Nest") in video game form: cold, manipulative, and meglomaniacal. Dr. Tenenbaum makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the game (she apparently fled Rapture and is now back to save the new Little Sisters and get them out of Rapture), but she's otherwise absent. This absence doesn't detract from the story, but she was so interesting in the 1st game it would have been nice to know what she'd been up to and to know a little more about her dark past. Sinclair (your guide and essentially Bio 2's answer to Atlas) isn't nearly as good or as interesting as Fontaine, even with his Southern draw and the horrible thing that happens to him at the end. Delta, however, is a far better main character than Jack, primarily because you are emotionally invested in him. There is an invisible, melancholy sadness about him as he searches for Eleanor (which isn't to say he's not a bad-ass). Furthermore, there is much more of an emotional component to tracking down and harvesting/saving Little Sisters. Instead of constantly hearing "Look, Mr. Bubbles, it's an angel" you hear things like "You'll always be there for me, Daddy?". In this game, the Little Sisters really do see their Big Daddies as fathers, making harvesting them even more reprehensible (in the end, I couldn't do it, even though this is a video game; you really do get that emotional vibe off of them). Overall, I'd say this one is a draw between the 2 games.

Gameplay: There are several changes to note for Bioshock 2, all of which I believe enhance the game over the 1st one. Because you are a Big Daddy, you can wield a Plasmid and a weapon at the same time. Not only do you not have to waste time switching back and forth in the middle of a battle but now it's easier to use environmental kills on your enemies, making for some pretty cool attacks and set-ups. Because you are a Big Daddy, instead of a wrench you have the drill, which as with weapons can be upgraded at the Power to the People stations. The drill can be upgraded to repel enemy fire, and eventually you will get an upgrade that will allow you to charge your opponent, which is pretty handy (no pun intended).

As for situations and enemies, your basic Splicers return with a few additions. The Bruiser Splicer is an overgrown beast that requires a significant amount of firepower to defeat (recommend explosives and anti-personnel rounds and the Winter Blast Plasmid). The new-model Big Daddies aren't any more armored than they were in the previous game, but they now move a lot faster and some have explosives launchers (if you have the Telekinesis Plasmid, they're still not hard to defeat). However, the biggest edition to the enemies list are the Big Sisters. These armored monsters move fast, use Plasmids of their own, and possess Spider Splicer abilities, meaning you'll need patience, traps, and plenty of ammo and Eve to defeat. Overall, in fact, the Splicers are significantly more difficult than in the 1st game. In the first game, I could get all the upgrades to my shotgun and easily take out a Houdini Splicer (at least in Easy and Medium modes). In this game, you'll still need a lot of skill and planning to defeat them. Furthermore, you're limited to 6 each of Health Kits and Eve Syringes (and that's if you buy upgrades; otherwise it's 5 and 5), so by the final battle you're really going to be using everything you've got, even on Easy.

If you decide to "adopt" a Little Sister, you have the option of letting them walk around collecting Adam from dead bodies. The benefit of this is you get just as much Adam as you would harvesting these poor kids. The bad news is that while they're harvesting, you have to defend them from wave after difficult wave of Splicers, requiring careful planning and full health and ammo. It's an interesting scenario (although not mandatory; you can just drop the kid off at a vent and be done with it) and will really test your skills. In this respect, definitely an upgrade over the 1st game.

Graphics and so forth: Not much has changed. Bioshock 2 uses the same graphics engine as before, so don't expect any changes there, and Rapture looks almost exactly the same. In fact, some areas such as Sander Cohen's digs are carryovers from the 1st game (with some alterations to reflect Rapture's destroyed state). This is somewhat disappointing, because it means the wonder of Rapture is now gone, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The music is also essentially a carryover from the first game.

Conclusion: Bioshock 2 takes the 1st game and makes several significant improvements that enhance the experience. While graphics and sounds stand pat, and even though most of the characters aren't as interesting as the ones previous, Bioshock 2 is a must-have for any FPS fan.

So I have to admit I was more then a little disappointed with my first day of Bioshock 2. After about 5 hours of playing I finally accepted the fact that really nothing new was going to be introduced in this game. That's not all bad, Bioshock 1 was a very fun game... The environment is still one of the best conceived for a video game. The game play is dark and twisted which I enjoy it just felt like for a sequel there wasn't much new content that will keep me playing this game.

The new Hacking is too easy but at the same time they give you a pain in the a$$ gun to shoot hacking darts. ( I hate that gun personally, switching to it in the middle of a fight causes serious frustration). The new weapons they have are nothing to write home about. And to me the graphics looked the exact same as the last bioshock. After seeing how Mass Effect overhauled graphics from 1 to 2 I was kind of hoping for the same thing here. That's not the case.

All in all the game feels like a clone of the first one with a story that doesn't pull you in the same way. If you were a fan of the first bioshock then you will appreciate this game but doesn't expect the single player to give you anything more then the first. The multiplayer is fun but by no means addictive like many others game out there today. So I would give this game 4 stars for fun factor, 3 stars overall. I just wish it had a little more content for the money we shell out.
