To be fair this game and its earlier ones were made to bring a more realistic feeling to a WW2 shooter. It is not your typical shooter where you storm through a stage killing enemies by the 100's. You play as a Srg and have to command your squads around to cover one another and flank. The game has great graphics, a good AI, awesome sound effects and a even better story that will challenge and give you many hours of strategic combat. Please understand that most people knock this game because they are used to and I guess are not bored of your average shooter. If you are tired of typical shooters with no strategy whatsoever then I bet you will love this game. Also note that this game focuses alot more on single player then online.

Pros:

Emphasis on tactics (flanking the enemy is important). Team concept.

Graphics are very good. They are not the best that the PS3 has to offer, but very good. Excellent slo-motion effects.

Some historical relevance using a fictional squad within the US Army's 101st Airborne Division.

Good storyline.

Cons:

Audio and visual bugs (minus 1 star overall).

Online play is available, but not great. No emphasis on team concept online.

Linear play.

Finding a sniper rifle or using standard rifles can make it somewhat easy to pick off the enemy in each mission.

Rambos need not apply for this title. Running and gunning, while possible, makes the game more difficult to play.

At first I was nervous about having to use teamwork to advance in a game, since I'm used to go-it-alone type games, but this teamwork makes for a good game. I die a tremendous amount of times, but I still continue because it's all about strategy, but not to the extremely frustrating point. Graphics are good, gameplay is good and action is intense. Bottom line is that it is doable. Might take many attempts, but it's fun while you try. Can't go wrong with this title especially since the price has been falling. Enjoy.

First of all, this is NOT a run-and-gun FPS. Actually, it's a TPS (Third-person-shooter). Anyway, this requires a more slow and methodical play style than your Halo or Resistance type of shooter.

On-line play is OK, but the poor controls really kill the fun.

The Good:

Very good cut-scenes. Helps move the story along. And there IS a story, which some may not care about. For me, it kept things more interesting. And despite what someone claimed earlier, you CAN skip the cut-scenes.

Things to do other than just killing Nazis. You've got "Recon Sites" you can visit, which unlock some historical facts about Operation Market Garden. You also have "Kilroys" to find.

Squad mechanics is done fairly well. It has its problems, but nothing major.

Makes you think about the battlefield and how to use cover/flanking/etc.

The Bad

Third Person Shooter. Some people like that, some don't care. I generally don't like TPS, because you always end up at some point not being able to look in the direction you want to look. It's just a problem with TPS in general (the worst was an older Metal Gear game I played on Xbox... the only game I've ever returned).

Poor choice of controls. Why does each game designer insist on using different control layouts than everyone else? Half the games I've played use R1 for primary fire, while the other half use R2. WHY???

No ability to customize controls (related to above). Come on now! This is a sore point for me. It seems fewer and fewer games allow any type of customization of the controls, yet each one has its own idea of which button should do what. Why do I have to re-learn which trigger is primary fire each time I play a different game??? VERY BAD!!!

In Realistic difficulty, you don't have any cross-hairs. OK, sounds "realistic", except if you're dug in behind cover and pop out to shoot, since this is a TPS, you can't see where you're aiming!!! Did anyone actually play-test this thing???

Can't pick up grenades from bodies.

No jumping.

No crawling or prone position.

No melee. All the pics show you have this nasty combat knife, but you can't actually use it???

Poor AI. Your squads don't use very good judgement about using cover to get to where you want them. You sometimes have to micro-manage their route, or they'll run in front of some cover and get killed.

In Realistic mode, you have no idea how many magazines you're carrying. I understand you may not know how many bullets are left in a magazine, but surely you know if you only have one left vs 10 left.

No consistency about what objects you can vault over and which you can't.

Related to above, when running, bumping into the smallest of obstacles brings you to a complete halt. I've gotten killed numerous times when I was trying to run to cover but nicked the corner of some piece of wood or something, coming to a complete halt. You also can't really turn very well while running.

There's more, but I don't want to seem like I'm bashing the game.

Overall, I enjoyed the game (except in Realistic mode, due to the myriad of interface and control flaws). If you can pick it up for under $15 or $20, I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this game. I don't spend much time on the PS3, but this is the best game I have bought so far. I didn't really rate COD World At War, it felt rushed and basic, but I loved COD4 Modern Warfare. Although this is a different style of play, I think this game surpasses COD4 due to the need to think about the game, not just run and gun. The graphics are great, the story is good, the gameplay could be improved by more involvement in picking your teams specialities and your own weapons, but I would still rate this a 5!

Beast Hunters Apex Hunter Armor Suit w/breakdown is badass! This is one cool cyberverse Mech Suit that converts into a Battle Station with awesome features and quality construction.Basically the Apex Hunter Armor has the same mold as the cyberverse Bumblebee Battle Suit.It also transforms from one mode to another the same way as well.Breakdown has a Mech Suit that is epuipped with crusher claws, spring out blaster cannons, and one cool as hell 4 shot rapid -fire missile launcher. The chest compartment that holds Breakdown is wicked cool looking with beastly attitude and compliments the overall mech suit perfectly. This bad boy can also hold 3 cyberverse legion class transformers for even more fun.The poseability is outstanding with great stability for creating cool battle scenes or displaying where you please. The durability is excellent as well with a solid build in either Mech Suit or Battle Station modes.Breakdown himself is one overall quality transformer with solid ball-joint construction and excellent durability to hold up to any challenge that comes his way.The transformation level is easy meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is no difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 they can handle the process with ease.To go from the Apex Hunter Armor Mech Suit to the Battle Station you simpley start by slightly extending back the rear treads while rotating the front treads inwards. The platform piece on the back rotates up as the feet treads seperate to the front and back. Now the bright green pieces with the decepticon symbols pull outwards which will automatically spring the chest piece down and rotate the blaster cannons forward into place.Next you attach the missile launcher weapon and the battle station is ready to rumble! This is a great addition for any fan of the cyberverse vehicle line or transformers prime in general.Bottom line Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Apex Hunter Armor is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 cyberverse transformer that all fans will enjoy.I highly recommend Transformers Prime Apex Hunter Armor to all transformer fans and collectors out there.Apex Hunter Armor w/Breakdown Rocks and Transformers Rule!!!

This is going to be a short review on Quantum Of Solace released in 2008 the same year as the movie. You also deal with the plot from Casino Royale. You play as Bond portrayed by Daniel Craig this time. The 1st 3 levels deal with Quantum Of Solace you & this girl named Camille go after Dominic Greene & General Madrano. The levels in between are The Casino Royale missions then the last level is pretty much what you have at the end of Quantum Of Solace. The combat system is good much better than Bloodstone. It uses a 3rd person prespective when you go behind cover the weapon selection is pretty good. I'm going through this pretty quickly cause I covered this game in 2009 on my other account. The controls are great it follows the movie as good as it can. Short review but if you want a more in depth review go to ny older account & look for it you'll have to back track a lot back to summer 09 if you want to read it. Next I will review Bloodstone.

If you have played the previous series (Arland) and enjoyed them then this game will be a refreshing change in plot and characters and you won't regret adding this title to your collection. If you weren't thrilled with the previous series and hoped for lots of changes, then this might be a hit or miss for you.

Pros:

-Party and supporting characters are very likeable and interesting. Each one has their own traits and distinctive personality. I especially liked the fact that your party characters play a more active role when it comes to exploring.

-More towns to explore, with each town containing a place for you to practice your alchemy and get some rest.

-More save points.

-Lots of sidequests.

-Improved battle system.

-Better basket and container handling for you to view and gather your items.

-I actually liked the english voice actors.

-Improved goal system.

-Definitely pretty to look at. Each place you explore is very unique.

Cons:

-If you disliked the previous series because of the time limits and constant time tracking of gathering items, traveling, and synthesizing items, then you won't be thrilled with the changes. There is a little bit more freedom (you don't have to gather as many items and synthesis in terms of days needed is faster), but you still have limitations that greatly limit your first gameplay and will most likely continue to limit additional gameplays.

-Its obvious that the creators assumed those who were playing this game would have played the previous titles. There was a noticeable lack of explanation and tutorials. I also found myself constantly checking the help section and reading online even though I had played other titles.

-This last one is just a personal opinion and I am sure lots of people may disagree, which is fine. I have never been a fan of the main female leads for the previous series and wasn't a huge fan of Ayesha for the same reasons. She isn't terrible and I like her costume design, but she still lets all the other characters walk all over her and they treat her like a child. I could see the creators tried to make her seem a bit more mature, but I was looking for a female lead with just a little more of a backbone.

I was going to put the lack of story direction as a Con (even though the very end goal is quite obvious), but you get used to the new goal development system and I liked how it didn't force you in one direction. They might have purposely made it more open because it was the first of the new series.

Overall, its a great new title. While there is still a need for some improvements, I felt it got better and is headed in the right direction. I am looking forward to future titles and would definitely recommend that people support this series by buying this game.

Ayesha is the start to a new trilogy of Atelier games. If you enjoyed the previous Arland trilogy, you will find many familiar things, as well as many new things.

Gameplay wise, the game is similar to the Arland games. Alchemy is back, of course. So is the usual time limit with time passing for various tasks like alchemy, traveling, fighting and gathering. The game also has an excellent sound track like previous games. Combat is turn based like before, but has a new positioning system that plays a big part.

There are a fair number of differences from the Arland games though. Most obviously, this is a brand new setting, so none of the Arland characters are there. Its an entirely different world after all. Secondly, the alchemy system has been changed up a bit. Furthermore, if you liked the kingdom building aspects of Meruru, those did not make a return in Ayesha.

Ayesha does have some downsides. The most common complaint is the sparse voice acting. All the major scenes and some minor scenes are voiced, but the majority of minor scenes are not. Furthermore, the game is a bit shorter than the previous games, though it has the same replayability as older games with new game plus and going for new endings. Also, a minor annoyance, there is little variety in enemies. There are about 10 different kinds of normal enemies, and maybe 6 or so different boss enemies, and you fight pallete swap versions of them throughout the game.

Overall, if you enjoyed the original trilogy, you should find plenty to love with this one. Its less meaty than Meruru, but it sets a firm foundation as the first game in a new trilogy and if you liked the previous games, you would be doing yourself a disservice not giving it a go. If you have been interested in the series but haven't played the earlier games for whatever reason, this isn't a bad starting point either.

A fantastic, open-ended alchemy adventure with a sweet heroine and a slightly more somber tone than its predecessors. The character models are beautiful, the music is great, and the combat is much improved since the days of Atelier Rorona. The game gives you a tremendous amount of freedom in advancing the story your own way. The voice acting and script are fair-to-good, but everything else about the game is lovely.

Highly recommended to fans of the Arland trilogy and Japanese RPGs in general.

Atelier Ayesha is the fourth installment in alchemist games for the PS3 and the first to be set outside Arland. It follows the story of a young herbalist/apothecary trying to save her little sister who has been "spirited away" by "flowers". The pacing has been increased from previous iterations, accelerating the rate of alchemical discovery and exploration compared to both Totori and Meruru.

PROS:

1. Gameplay-wise, a new positional element has been added that integrates into party-member assists. It adds a new element to the tried and true Atelier formula, but ultimately it only helps to boost battlefield prowess slightly without adding significant depth or differences to core gameplay.

2. Story. The plot is quite enjoyable and I'd rank it above Totori as the best of the 4 Atelier games for the PS3.

3. OST. The sometimes quirky, sometimes epic music returns with appropriate tracks for all situations and sets a good atmosphere.

CONS:

1. Not only is the Japanese VA missing due to a business decision by the new publisher, Tecmo Koei, but the English VA performance is not up to snuff compared to Atelier Meruru. At the very least, Ayesha's VA delivers a somewhat flat and bland performance for the lead character. Disappointing.

2. Graphical style took a step back with Atelier Ayesha. The characters look somewhat disproportionate and their design are slightly out of place. I feel like Meruru had a far superior visual representation.

Overall I think if you're a fan of the previous Arland games getting Atelier Ayesha is a no-brainer. Atelier games offer a more cerebral and time-management oriented style of JRPG with a significant emphasis on crafting compared to more action-oriented traditional fair like Tales of Graces or Final Fantasy XIII. I'd recommend Atlier Ayesha based on the sum of its parts.

Want Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk Discount?

I've been a long and avid fan of the Atelier franchise for a long time now. I got into them with Annie on the DS on it's early release at a convention and was hooked ever since, going back and playing earlier titles and, of course, keeping up with the new releases as well.

I've played Annie, Rorona, Totori, Meruru, Iris (all 3), some of Mana Khemia, and now Ayesha. Of all of them, Ayesha is by far the best.

I'll do this in a more organized list fashion to keep it shorter than it'd end up otherwise;

Overall Pros (in comparison to prior Atelier titles):

No Time Limit: There is a restriction in that you need to finish the game within 3 years, but there's nothing else no longer do you have to worry about turning in this side job in a few days or getting screwed for it. It's much more manageable and never gives you that feeling of being rushed as the past games have.

Graphically this is way more beautiful than the previous games. I loved Mel Kishida doing the designs for the last 3 titles, but this artwork by the new guy doing the designs for this trilogy fits much better with the 3D models and backgrounds than Kishida's did. It looks stunning.

The music is far superior to the previous games (aside Rorona's workshop tune, which I put on in this one in the workshops).

The story this time is actually a real story. Most Atelier games have a "story" but nothing very important or serious, a lightly tacked on point of progression, here though the story is actually very well written and after getting all the endings including the true one, you really see that this story is building up into something amazing. Hopefully KT brings over the sequel. You constantly feel a sense of foreboding and 'the end of the world' and the old ways of alchemy being so incredibly powerful all come up very often throughout the game. The setting, unlike in the past games, feels much darker and somber, but...

the lighthearted upbeat feeling is still here entirely! And, actually, this game is much more "just a girl living her life" than the previous ones wherein you were a princess trying to prove daddy wrong, or a girl forced to run the shop, and so on.

Cities and outside areas are all much more lively and big, no more five foot sized zones.

Gameplay Pros:

Battles have been drastically improved from the other games. They are much smoother, more fluid, and now a placement system has been put in that makes strategy actually relevant.

Synthesis is also handled way more fluidly and user-friendly, yet at the same time while it feels much simpler it's also much more complex, it's just laid out better so that it doesn't HAVE to be. You can synth stuff easily enough, but for those who want to go further the system now has much more depth to it and creating items is very fun and rewarding. You have (if you choose to care about it) entire control over the ingredients, what order you put them into the mix, traits, and so on.

Loading is not a problem anymore, everything is pretty instant.

The cast this time around is also probably the most well written and developed too of the series, with the exception of the Atelier Rorona cast.

The only cons for this game are ones that are a little exaggerated by some fans of the series who refuse(d) to buy this:

The game is dub-only. KT decided to not include the original JP audio on the discs for some reason. However, the dub is very good even by the standards of people who aren't usually open to English audio, so I wouldn't recommend letting this turn you off from it.

The dub is mostly complete, but some smaller less relevant scenes don't have audio because KT didn't want to spend the extra money. It sounds very bad but honestly after playing through three times now and 100%ing it each time, this is pretty much entirely unnoticeable.

Overall I'd definitely, 100%, no doubt, suggest this game to just about anybody. One thing I hear gamers complain about a lot is a lack of originality in gaming and this series is extremely original, with the entire focus being on item synthesis (which no other games aside those made inspired by this mostly just indie Japanese titles have done) and even smaller details like how combat works (using your own self-made weapons, healing items, and explosives to attack the enemy) and so on.

On top of that, these games are just outstanding and extremely fun. If you're someone looking for something original or unique, someone into anime, someone into JRPGs, or someone who is already a fan of this series I'd say for sure to get this game. Especially if you're a fan who is 'on the fence' due to the dub issue. This game is way too good to pass up for any reason.

I must say I am impressed and a little surprised with what they have done with Max Payne. I have been building this game up in my head for the past few years since I first caught wind of it and I must say it has met and beat my expectations. The game is very well put together. There is intense action, a lot of violence, and a carefully woven story that is peppered with flashbacks and poetic cut scenes. The single player campaign is roughly 10 hours long and the trophies are split up between single player and multiplayer, though there are a few more single player trophies. Fans of the original games will enjoy this very much. I have a feeling that newcomers may gravitate more toward the multiplayer side of the game, while us old timers play Max Payne for the gripping story and the depressed main characters drunken inner monologue.

The full installation size is 5.5 gigs, there was a 25mb update on release day and a 59mb update on 5-21-12 which may have corrected some of the below issues gamers have been having. You DO NOT need to be connected to the internet for Max Payne 3 to save your game, as others have claimed you do. I unhooked my network and played for an hour, quit, restarted and it went right to where I left off. You also will earn trophies, but you need the internet to sync them to the PSN. Some players have noted that there are audio interruptions throughout the game, I have noticed this as well, however they are very minimal and random throughout the game which does not hinder the game playing experience. My only issue was that the voice did not match the characters lips moving in a short cut scene, again, a very mild issue which may have been corrected with the most recent update as I have not had any issues since.

Pros

+ Beautiful natural feeling graphics. Fairly well detailed and smooth running. It has a unique style that is very entertaining.

+ There is a very nicely woven storyline that really holds your interest throughout.

+ The A.I. is very good in my opinion giving us smart challenging enemies.

+ Music is classic Max Payne, but with a modern twist. Sound is very clear and strong. Voice acting is top notch and funny at times.

+ Bullet time is very well crafted. 360 shooting while on the ground is a nice touch. Shooting from cover is also well achieved.

+ Multiplayer does grow on you after more plays. It is fast, simple and smooth.

Cons

Multiplayer is not as great as I was hoping. It is a bit clunky and only mildly entertaining. Bullet time is fun, however easily becomes a mess with many players. I would not recommend this game simply for multiplayer.

Control in single player and multiplayer takes a little while to get used to. It is good, however it needs to grow on you. Sort of reminds me of the Alan Wake controls and the aiming system reminds me of Red Dead Redemption.

I found that the game does get slightly repetitive after a while, however with the regular scenery change and story jumping it is very minimal.

Bullet time can sometimes actually hinder your game play. If an enemy shoots you and you are near death, you are forced into a locked bullet time, which is cool, but if you need to reload or an object is in your way you will die and you have no control. Very frustrating.

There a few weird clipping issues. Sometimes when you shoot an enemy they will just stand there frozen, and eventually fall.

One little pet peeve of mine in games is when they take the control away from the player, well due to all the loading cut scenes they do take the control away quite often and have varying length cut scenes. It does get annoying after a while and for the most part you cannot skip the cut scenes as it is loading the next section. However I rather sit through a cut scene than a empty loading screen.

As a huge Max Payne series fan, I was a little insulted by them adding multiplayer, though it is mildly fun and entertaining and like any multiplayer game it greatly depends on who you are playing with. Other reviews are saying this third installment in the Max Payne series has drifted from its roots. I agree and disagree. It has been almost 10 years since Max Payne 2 came out and the game needed a facelift. It is still Max Payne, however they have gone above and beyond to make this a new gaming experience yet still hold on to the classic aspects we look for. Max is old, I felt as bad for him as I did for Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4. He still has it though! Max's sad poetic dialogue, painkillers, and bullet time are all here. The game is very violent and intense, mostly seen in bullet time slow-mo kills showing the bullets flying through your enemies like a grapefruit.

The game is very smooth and stable and I have had no issues with glitching or lagging. At one point a multiplayer game did freeze up (the game, not the system) on me and it restarted within 30 seconds and took me back to the multiplayer menu.

Over-all I am very happy with Max Payne 3. It has lived up to my expectations and the hype. However keep in mind it is a single player game, with a less than perfect multiplayer game latched onto the single player for survival. The style is great; it is like a Heavy Rain and L.A. Noire and a Tony Scott (especially Man on Fire) film all in one. It is highly entertaining and the dialogue is fun and holds your interest throughout the game play. The loading times are hidden in the cut scenes, so there are many long cut scenes and they do seem to interrupt often, so if you are looking for a shoot um' up style game you'll get it with MP3, however you'll have to sit through the cut scenes first.

Highly recommended.

Dark, gritty, and incredibly violent, "Max Payne 3" was clearly inspired by the works of the late, great Tony Scott. Spoken words of dialogue sporadically popping up on the screen as white text... color distortions and filters... multiple frames split with bold lines... a muted color palette... all of these elements of style summoned Scott's films to mind, while playing MP3. More than anything else, however, it was the gritty storytelling and the darkness of character that reminded me of Scott. The first thing that popped into my mind when I began playing MP3 was "Man on Fire", the great Denzel Washington revenge movie. And at its core, that's exactly what MP3 is: an interactive revenge movie.

I can't think of another game I've played that's as atmospheric as MP3. You can feel the suffering of this man, and all his many follies. The other characters are also richly drawn, and the settings of Brazil (both the impoverished areas and the wealthy ones) are created effectively and convincingly. The various chapters are oftentimes brilliant, with some of the standouts being an enormous soccer stadium, a river traversed by speedboat, and a siege upon a luxury yacht in the Panama Canal. The story, voice acting, and cut scenes are all surprisingly good, and they paint a story that at first seems generic, but slowly becomes a riveting force that propels you forward through the campaign, eager to see the next chapter.

I feel like Rockstar Studios would have been better served by creating a new IP for this game, because it's so much more advanced and sophisticated than the other two titles in the series... but that's far more of a compliment than a complaint.

I took off one star for some issues: Foremost, the violence. I understand this is a violent story, and a mature title designed for adults, just like an R rated film. But some of the violence is simply gratuitous, particularly the slow motion, close up kills that signify the clearing of enemies in a roomand to make matters worse, this is hardly a new "trick". "Stranglehold" was doing this way back in 2006.

Second, the mechanics are a tad dated, and not quite as smooth as the best of the competition. Rockstar insists on mapping their aim and trigger inputs to the bumper buttons for some reason (just like in "Red Dead Redemption"), as opposed to the trigger buttons. This is fundamentally inconvenient for a couple of reasons... it defies the industry standards, and makes it difficult for gamers who are hardwired for conventional controls (alternate button mapping is possible, but you can't use the triggers for triggers, no matter what you choose). There is a very good reason why the trigger buttons on your controller are called trigger buttons... it's because they replicate triggers!

The slow motion trick (otherwise known as "bullet time") has not aged particularly well. The combat of this game is at its best when it relies upon the stop and pop, cover based shooting. Diving around in slow motion feels forced, and is not very fun. I only used slow motion when I was absolutely forced to, because there was no cover around.

These shortcomings, however, cannot undo what is a fantastic game, a credit to Rockstar Studios, and a fitting homage to Tony Scott.

Buy Max Payne 3 Now

The terrible pun best describes my experience with this game. Really it's a good game (for $20 anyway) but boy does it annoy at times. The story is lengthy and engaging and the acting fantastic, but the main character's bout of depression and self destruction got tiresome. Gameplay is fun but glitchy. As many here have mentioned, you do occasionally get stuck while in cover, forcing a checkpoint reload. Another gripe of mine lies with the game being cinematic to a fault. Whether it be a lengthy monologue while strolling sloooowly towards your destination or a particularly long cutscene (of which there are many), the game is determined to ensure you experience every agonizing second of it, New Game + or not.

The biggest payne though is the difficulty which tends to skyrocket at various moments, leading to retries after retries after retries. I'm not opposed to a game using health items instead of a recharging bar, in fact I prefer that to the tiresome blood-splatter-color-fading screens that accompany rechargeable health. But it takes so little to put Max down that you'll be spending most of your shootouts on the ground writhing in payne than on your feet.

Despite these problems the game is fun, especially considering that it includes cheats which gives it high replay in my book. If you want a good 3rd person shooter and can find this for under $30, you won't be disappointed.

If you're big on 3rd person shooters, this game is for you. I prefer some stealth in my games, there is none in this. The story left a little bit to be desired as well. The graphic and action were great. Easy controls.

Good game, just not really my thing

Want Max Payne 3 Discount?

The developers should have asked these questions and then should have picked one approach. Instead now you have a game where you play a shootout for 2-3 mins and then put the controller aside and watch a cut scene for 5-10 mins.

The game looks gorgeous. The cut scenes are not too bad actually. I am just extremely offended by the fact that the developers decided not to let the players have a choice in skipping a cut scene (interestingly you can skip these in Arcade mode but not in Story mode) . I wonder is they sat through each cut scene every time they tested a level. There are just far too many cut scenes. Even the simple act of open a door is a cut scene. And each cut scene changes the weapon selection to default. So... 2-3 min of game play, 5-10 mins of cut scene, change weapon selection... repeat. And if this review is starting to get repetitive, that pretty much what the game experience is like.

The "interactive" part of the game is nice, while it lasts, which is about 40% of the game. Hence my score...40%

Let me start by saying that I am only about 2 and a half hours into the game which is far from beating it. However, I feel compelled to write something as this game just was released today. I want to let others know what they can expect in case they are on the fence about buying the game.

I have uploaded a video of the packaging and it's contents (Limited Edition). I have to say that over all the presentation is a lot nicer than I was expecting. The one thing I sort of didn't like was that the art book is attached into the packaging. It made it harder to flip through and enjoy.

Getting into the game I was curious as what to expect. I read a lot of pre-release reviews comparing this game to God of Way. But was hoping for more than just another hack and slash and so far this game has delivered BIG. I have played through all 3 god of war games and can say I never honestly used the block button one time. In this game I found myself using it quite a bit. Also i think this game takes a bit more defensive strategy than just going toe-to-toe and mashing one button over and over.

There are so many incredible things about this game that stand out. I will be careful to not give anything away as I want you to enjoy all the wonderful surprises just like I have. But, the way the game intertwines cut scenes right in the middle of battle adds a whole new level of depth to the game-play. It was like battle with a real quick cut to cut-scene, than battle ,cut-scene,battle,battle,cut-scene, battle all with what seemed like no load time. Added a very high level of energy to the battles without taking the gamer out of the experience. It should be said that you have no control over the camera at any time. But, I think they did a great job with always keeping the camera at an angle that seems so natural that not once did I find myself frustrated by not having control. The levels are set up where you are encouraged to explore and in just the first few levels their are multiple paths you can go down. In the first 5 levels I not completed more than %60 of any one level and I pride myself on being an explorer. This will add to the value of the game for me as now I want to go back and replay the levels to find everything missed. Also, there are items you can see but can't reach until you have upgraded later in the game and have to come back.

Some other subtle things I thought were worth mentioning was the 3rd person perspective. the weather elements interact with the screen so you feel like you are with the character. The rain in particular is cool as the drops run down the screen after hitting. Also , when your character is stopped the screen has a swaying, bobbling effect like you are carrying a camera on your shoulder following the character. So, far every single environment I have been in has added a deep layer of atmospheric effect, whether it is rain, mist, or windy snow. It always keeps you from seeing everything 100% crystal clear but really adds another cool layer of realism. speaking of realism I thought it was worth noting that when you interact with a tree the branches move as well as when you are walking through tall grass...Don't think your efforts went unnoticed Konami! I have to say I am an artist who has drawn in one form or another my whole life. I really appreciate art and the effort that goes into creating it. I cannot count how many times in the first 2 hours I said WOW! out loud. The scenery is so well done I found myself almost enjoying the times between battles more than the battles themselves just so I could soak in the environments and scenery they created. Truly beautiful work on the environments!

The voice acting is top notch! I should mention for any adults reading this that may want to buy the game for a young child. That there was one moment in the first 2 hours of play with a full frontal nude fairy (nips and all). That may be the only moment in the game I am not sure as I said before i am only about 1/12 of the way into the game. But I imagine if it's there once it will probably be there again...(ehhhhmmm ehhhmmm Dante's Inferno.)

They also have added an RPG element. You gain experiece as you battle enemies and can use that experiece to unlock new moves or special extras like artwork in a gallery. The music is amazing! The milted edition comes with the soundtrack as you can see. I can actually see myself listening to it and enjoying it.

Hope this helped answer some questions about the game. Thanks for taking time to read my review.

The game: The graphics are very, very well done. The voice acting is great and I enjoy the story even if it is a bit simple. The game takes you to many atmospheric areas and all the locations are well designed with an expert artist's eye. There's always something to notice in the background. The game has visual depth other games dream about. The gameplay at first is basic 3rd person action game fare. Then you get into the sub-weapons (dagger, fairies, holy water, a dark crystal for summoning a demon) and eventually you get into learning to use your magic. You get light magic, which when activated turns the damage you do to enemies into health regeneration for you. And you get dark magic, which makes your attacks stronger. And various subweapons are altered depending on which magic state you are in. There are loads of new fighting moves to buy and learn with the credit you gain from solving puzzles, killing monsters / bosses, and clearing levels. The game is rather large, with 12 chapters, each containing anywhere from 2 or 3 to close to 10 stages within them. And once you beat a stage / level, you can go back to find new sub-weapon upgrades and life / light / dark gems for gaining more life / magic. And when you beat a level you also unlock the trial for that level, which is just a challenge specifically for that level. For example: After you defeat the Ice Titan at the end of Chapter 1, you unlock the trial to defeat it again in under 1 minute 30 seconds. This is impossible until you unlock a dark crystal, but you get the idea. When you complete challenges, you gain credit and you also gain more completion percentage. It's possible to get 110% in each level (Beat it on all difficulties, complete the trial, find all sub-weapon upgrades and gems). The combat is more about evasion than attacking in most cases, as you will die easily if you're not careful. Thankfully there are no enemies with cheap moves and you can see all enemy attacks coming early enough to dodge. Not early enough to make the game easy or boring, but if you pay attention, you'll stay alive. The boss battles are surprisingly fun and exciting. I haven't had a problem with the camera being fixed at all. I'm currently on Chapter 10 and should have the game beat soon enough, though I'm not rushing it. I think it's taken me about 12-15 hours to get this far, but I've also gone back and done challenges and searched for missing gems, so it hasn't been a straightforward play-through.

Now about the Collector's Edition. I really enjoy the cover art. It tells you: You are playing a Castlevania game. Now, the "art" in the art book, which is inconveniently inseparable from the game case, is disappointing. It isn't art at all, but the rendered 3D models of the characters and enemies. I wanted art like the cover, hand drawn and beautifully Castlevania-like. But no. Though the game does come with a soundtrack that is actually very well done. It's the best video game soundtrack I've heard since Silent Hill 2. It's over an hour long and has a good sense of theme to it, unlike the terrible scene-based music of God of War III, which was a soundtrack I regretted purchasing and was highly forgettable. I've listened to the Lords of Shadow soundtrack from beginning to end about 9 times now and I notice little aural nuances I hadn't heard before each time. The soundtrack is just as layered as the visuals, which is a plus. Overall I'd say if you can find the soundtrack from another source, skip the Collector's Edition, as that's the only good thing about it. Other than the embossed cover art.

The game itself still stands as an incredible journey through a dark land filled with interesting characters and bloody battles. The action is fun and the game is always throwing something different at you so it never gets stagnant. A worthy purchase for anyone who is a fan of video games or even just action games.

Also, God of War II being one of my favorite games, I'm getting sick and tired of the God of War comparisons. God of War III was beautiful but highly overrated and had a terrible ending. This game is better than GoW3 in my opinion. More variety in gameplay and combat. There were games like Devil May Cry out before God of War that were kicking ass and taking names, but these God of War fanatics don't seem to realize just how much their precious game took from other, better games before it. Yes, this game has similar elements to other games, but I won't get into that, because it is irrelevant. In any entertainment medium, good ideas live on through other iterations. Bashing a game for using another game's ideas is stupid and pointless. A good idea is a good idea, regardless what color it is or what buttons you have to push to make it happen. And Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a good game, regardless of what it has borrowed from others.

And to the people who are complaining about "hitbox issues" and "poorly designed puzzles"...I just don't know how to fight ignorance of that magnitude.

Okay, I'm finished.

******************************REVIEW OF THE LIMITED EDITION**************************************

Here are 3 reasons you should spend extra bucks to buy Limited Edition of the game. If you are interested in the review of the game just scroll below.

BOX: Clearly seen as in pictures, the box is different than standard addition, it has more art to it. The box is actually like a hard covered book with art pics, sound track DVD and game in it.

SOUND TRACK: This is the main reason, I bought the limited Edition. I loved the music, especially main theme and theme of certain boss fights. As I am assuming you haven't played the game I don't want to spoil it by giving names of perticular songs.

ARTWORK: There are 20 or more different pics of main characters and villians in the game. I really like the pics of some of the villians.

Since I am a big fan of Vampire, werewolf, necromonian genre I LOVED THE GAME and I personally thought LE was worth the price (specially because of the soundtrack). So this is 5 stars for me.

******************************REVIEW OF THE ACTUAL GAME**************************************

I have never played a Castlevania game before, so I was hesitant to buy this at first. However, each trailer I saw for this game looked great and when I played the demo, it kinda reminded me of God of War 2 (one my most favorite games of all time), so I had to give this one a shot. After I finished it once, here is what I thought.

PROS.

SOLID AND FLAWLESS ACTION: The combat system in this game is just perfect. Last time I enjoyed punishing enemies was in Devil May Cry games. Everything works just as you want to. Controls respond very well. Tactical use of dark and light magic adds whole new dimension to the combat. Once you master the different moves, the joy you get punishing the enemies using them, is just indescribable.

SPECTACULAR SUSPENSEFUL STORY: It has been a while since I have experienced a story in the game that makes me go wow. While the game does starts out a bit abruptly, things will make sense in the end. Don't want to spoil much.

UNANITICIPATED AFTER CREDIT ENDING: If you are familiar with character names than you may see this after the credits ending I am talking about, but I sure as hell did not see it coming. I was very surprised by it and quite frankly could not get this ending (LONG VIDEO) out of my head for days. Don't want to spoil much, but please FINISH THE GAME, trust me, after the credits will make it worth your while.

BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION: This game will make you go through jungles, valley, barren towers, huge castles etc. etc. Frankly, they are very nicely designed and the game looks great in 720p.

GREAT VARIETY IN ENEMY: It has been a while I have seen SO MANY different types of enemies in the same game. Different types of werewolves, vampires, goblins, deads and other creatures I can't remember names of. All of these gothically designed. I am telling you artwork in this game is just magnificent.

RIDING HUGE ENEMIES GAMEPLAY: I personally loved it. Once you weaken huge enemies such as big warewolves, spiders etc, YOU CAN RIDE THEM. Use them to unleash devastating attacks, solve puzzle etc. etc. Truly remarkable.

TONS OF CHALLENGING BOSSES: Slaughtering hordes and hordes of enemies and moving forward in the game will reward you with some really compelling boss battles. Just like levels and small fry enemies, these bosses are also very aesthetically animated. To me boss battle was the third strongest aspect of the game (after story and art). As soon as I defeated a boss, I look forward to the next one. Such anticipation and mysterious story really drives you forward in this game.

ACROBATIC GAMEPLAY AND PUZZLES: If you like puzzles there are tons and tons of them in this game. If you don't like puzzles no worries. Spend your experience points and you don't have to solve them. HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT? I salute this game for providing that option. Genius! The acrobatic gameplay, which would be hanging from cliff, then jumping from cliff to cliff, is pretty good. Kind of like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time games. What I particularly found interesting was use of the chain to do acrobats. There points in the game you can jump off of cliffs, use chains to hang somewhere, use the momentum of chain to break through weak structures etc. You have to play it to get a feel for what I am saying.

UPGRADABLES AND HIDDEN ITEMS: In this game you can buy new combat moves and upgrade them by trading your experience. While most of the moves can be purchased through the first gameplay (assuming you don't trade experience for solving puzzles), to get all moves and all hidden items, you will have to play different chapters in the game over again.

TREMENDOUS REPLAYABILITY: The game itself is long enough. If you want to go for 100% of the items, it will even take longer since you will have to revisit chapters and use your upgrades. In addition it comes with 4 different difficulty levels and a minigame. This will keep you engage for a long while.

CONS.

MINOR ISSUES WITH PUZZLES: Honestly the only con I found in this game was I was too used to God of War 2 controls. Because of that I was stuck in puzzles such as clocktower puzzle. Fortunately I figured out the difference in controls and was able to solve the puzzle. An example: In clocktower puzzle, ever time I tried to raise a platform, it would rise halfway and then fall as my character would let go of the lever contrary to the fact that I was holding the button. THE KEY IS TO LET GO OF R2(or L2 whichever is to hold the lever) once you hold the lever. The character will hold it himself without you having to hold the button. Other than this I think some puzzles are a bit too challenging. But again every one of them is solvable and if not, YOU CAN ALWAYS SOLVE THEM BY TRADING EXPERIENCE.

CONCLUSION:

I frankly am quite impressed by this game. As listed above, Pros. easily outweighs Cons. My score for this game would be 9.5/10. God of War, Prince of Persia and Devil May Cry fans, THIS IS A MUST BUY. Only thing I recommend is play it on the hardest mode possible for those of who are veteran to God of War type of games.

This game takes the traditional 3rd person adventure platform and supercharges it. The attacks take a little getting used too, but the game eases you into this format slowly and efficiently. Definitely worth the price of admission. If your looking for a 3rd person adventure game that feels different but is still incredibly fun while adding a decent story line this is the game for you.Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Limited Edition

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is the game that bleeds fresh blood into the 20 plus year history of the Castlevania franchise. Like many other classic titles made famous on the Nintendo console back in the 80's, Castlevania has suffered from not following a timeline or staying true to one. The Legend of Zelda probably leads the pack, nobody knows which Link they are playing with or if it's a different version even though they all have the same name and more or less look alike. Almost all Final Fantasy games are not connected one to the other and that has somehow become one of the main draws of the series because each game can hold its own without a sequential storytelling and are really fantastic to play. The games usually are benchmarks of all role playing games. I can't think of another series that defines a genre better than Final Fantasy. In First Person Shooters I can pull 3 series out of a hat that are brands to measure up to: Call of Duty, Halo and BioShock.

Castlevania has not defined its genre. The series has never revolutionized the industry. The games, however, have been entertaining for the most part. The story, at first, was clear. Main character comes from a lineage of vampire killers and goes after the biggest threat to the land, vampire king Dracula. Every century or so Dracula comes back to life and a descendant of the Belmont family has the duty of ridding the world of Dracula's presence again.

Simple plot, maybe handcuffed to the game cartridges they came in, but definitely entertaining to play. Now other series ( most notably Ninja Gaiden and Metal Gear ) held substantially more plot in their games in the same media size, so you can't blame the simple storyline on a lack of kilobytes. One of the main knocks I've had on the Castlevania series is the fact that in most of the games, some way or another you ended up battling the same end boss: Dracula. I have beaten almost every game they threw out there, even the incredibly awful Castlevania64. Now it's not like Konami Xeroxed the game like CAPCOM did with MegaMan, but I thought that they would have come up with better creative results for the end of their games than to battle a different version of the same character, through the years, across different platforms, and definitely not in a higher advanced era of gaming. To my knowledge only The Legend of Zelda has been able to pull that off successfully on a commercial and critically acclaimed level.

What becomes even more unforgiving how the series bore after a while is when you consider the source material, the inspiration from which the Castlevania series was born. It came out of the fantasy novels that started in 1984 called Vampire Hunter D. It borrowed key elements from the novel ( and later films ) including the vampire theme, the use of the whip, more importantly Dracula as a main adversary to humans ( although in the novels he is known as the Vampire King and was long gone when the story starts ). Having read 4 of the novels now available in a language you and I can understand it is bewildering how the Castlevania series has had a thin plot line in most of the games and too many turns in the wrong direction. Those novels are fantastic, and I encourage everyone to rent and see the 2000 anime film of Vampire Hunter D so you can get a taste of what I am talking about.

Being a long time fan of the series, I was rather frustrated on how other series made successful leaps into the 3D realm but my favorite series wavered. It began to dominate the hand-held universe however, using the same formula they applied to their most critically acclaimed game, Symphony of the Night, released in 1997 for the original Playstation. Year after year good ( or decent ) games were released for the Gameboy Advance and later Nintendo DS. The year 2003 saw a very good 3D Castlevania game for the Playstation 2, but it arrived 2 years late after a certain CAPCOM created a series called Devil May Cry. This game gave me the illusion of what a great 3D Castlevania could be, so I thought why did Konami get beat to it? The lead character, Dante, is one of the deepest characters created for a video game that I have ever seen. The world it is set in/against are demons not vampires but the landscapes and structures feel Gothic giving it somewhat of a Castlevania feel. So I understand when Lament of Innocence which was released 2 years after that most people would feel like it was sort of a Devil May Cry rip-off. Main character looked similar, pre-set cameras throughout the game, life bars were identical aside from the color scheme, to name a few. In my point of view CAPCOM just defined the third person action/adventure genre with that game so everybody else would have to try and 'catch up' to them...and in this case rather copy.

Lament of Innocence is a very good game. It suffers from poor level design however and that is essentially what sets the game back. The gameplay is fantastic, the boss battles are mostly great and the graphics are quite good. The story is OK, tries to set a platform for the series to go on. The other entry in the 3D realm came in 2005 with Curse of Darkness, which was less of a game because it still suffered from poor level design, although it had a better story to go on, same graphics, forgettable boss battles ( aside from the fight with Isaac and his Innocent Devil ) and the main character, a former bad guy, looked MORE like Dante from Devil May Cry. I remember pledging to never buy a new video game retail after Curse of Darkness ( $50 for the PS2 ) until I knew for sure a game was great. It took 2 more years for that to happen, God of War 2. I kept on playing the 2D hand-held versions of Castlevania ( Portrait of Ruin being my favorite of those ) wondering when a day would come that Konami could make a great 3D Castlevania game.

That day has finally come.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is my favorite video game of all-time. Where other games failed this one surpassed, expectations were met then blown away and when I thought this is where it is going to fail, it kept on going seamlessly. I had never played a game where I was looking for it to fail someplace and I finish the game and it left me searching for something that wasn't there. The previous game to hold the honor was Resident Evil 4. My only requirement for this award is the answer to this question: if you were stranded on a deserted island, and you were only allowed to take one game with you, which game would that be? The answer cannot take more than 2 seconds. It must be clear cut or unanimous. Lords of Shadow is now the hands down winner.

I bought the Limited Edition PS3 version of the game, which comes on a single disc and only has the box art, soundtrack and book case presentation to differ from the regular version. It is good to note that the Xbox 360 version of the game comes on TWO discs ( which was used on the IGN review ) because PS3s use Blu-ray discs which hold more memory than the HD-DVDs that the Xbox 360 uses...yes the game is that long.

Lords of Shadow starts when Gabriel Belmont, a knight from the Brotherhood of Light, sets out on a mission to find the evil that murdered his wife and has apparently distanced the earth from the heavens; cutting off communication with God allowing evil to flourish on the land. You arrive in a town looking for the god Pan, after a brief fight with some werewolves you are shown the way and the adventure begins.

PRESENTATION: Very good. The story is told through in-game cutscenes mostly, narrated through your 'log book' by the secondary character Zobek. Pause menu is a small screen capture of the moment you actually paused the game. This 'log book' holds the beastiary, weapons and items you have, explains the combo systems you can acquire and also shows what they look like once you perform them in a rather storyboard film or black & white cartoon way. Very cool. There is no map per se, but there is a progress map that logs your completion through the areas you have gone through, shows you how much of that level or chapter you have completed, and what items are to be found there. This is key in the way that you don't have to wander aimlessly through the WHOLE game looking for example for those 3 red gems you are missing. This progress map shows you what is to be found in each level and if you have found all the items in that specific level.

GRAPHICS: Spectacular. After playing God of War 3 early last year I thought that it would take some time before I saw a game that came close to the graphical prowess of that game, but I was wrong. Lords of Shadow looks incredible. The environments are vivid, fluid colors, the framerate is fierce, no visible slowdowns and the action in this game sometimes never stops. Quicktime events are seamless, the markers are better placed than in previous games in the same genre and do not interfere with the action performed in the least. Enemies and bosses are detailed and modeled well, main character model is very good although not as polished as Kratos in God of War 3, and the female characters look good but not great like the ones in Dante's Inferno. There is a noticeable difference between the two models in this game ( male vs female ) yet at the same time looks intentional, not unfinished. The scale of the game makes the graphical aspects of this game seem more impressive. ( You will remember that chain walk in the snow trust me among others ) SOUND: Excellent. The voice acting in the game is very good. Patrick Stewart lends a hand as the narrator and does a great job with it. Sometimes the narrative itself is too long and that diminishes the effort as you kind of get tired of hearing his voice in that specific segment. Robert Carlyle does the voicework for Gabriel Belmont which result in several memorable quotes throughout the entire story and lends to the intensity and the resolve of the main character. The music is very well composed and plays an intricate part in the game and fits the mood of the game perfectly. Initially you think it might be the same song over and over again, but the reality is far from that truth. There are 20 unique songs in the game, some are similar and used in specific situations but carry the 'charge on' theme to them that makes the game feel more 'epic'. At the same time sounds pertaining to walking or moving through different surfaces are crisp, whether you are walking through leaves, snow or a brick floor. Weapons clash are clear, blocking effectively is magnified and heard without compromising framerates and critical hits cries encourage the player to pile on some more damage to your foe. Some would advocate why no classic tunes were remastered in any way, but I think it's fine, it is time to create new ones. Fact is the music made me feel like I was playing a movie. Yes the musical score is that good.

GAMEPLAY: Fantastic. This section carries the heaviest weight for me when analyzing a video game. Normally I really don't care how good the game looks, I mean there are more games with great graphics that are terrible that you and I know about. However, there are few games with great gameplay, and this is one of them. High on the fun factor, spectacular combos to pull off and a long variance of simple attacks that are too long to list. Eventually you will pick a good set of moves to master and you carry on from there. There is no way to bulldoze through the game so using the same combos against different enemies will only get you annihilated. What has certainly separated Castlevania from other games initially was the use of a whip as your main weapon. Konami went full force on it here and stuck to its guns. You can eventually whip, saw, climb, swing, and stab with the thing. You also gain access to a gauntlet that can move objects, block, and make earth shattering attacks with. A couple of simple sub weapons include daggers, holy water and some fairies that stall smaller enemies from attacking you. There is a dark crystal that once you collect all the pieces can unleash some serious hell on whichever foes you desire to wrath the beast to. Several moves you can perform in this game are perfected versions of ones from the Leon Belmont character in Lament of Innocence, which were very cool to pull off. The dynamic of Light magic to replenish health and the Dark magic to inflict more damage which you decide to apply to as you kill enemies away brings a nice pace to the game. Although health fountains do exist in the game, there are actually few and exist more at the start of the journey. Inflicting damage without getting hit fills up your focus meter which at full capacity makes EVERY hit turn into a magic orb to which you can decide, on the fly, to apply to either the Light or Magic bars by pressing down on L3 or R3. Gabriel is fast ( Then again the bosses are no slow Joes either). He moves around quickly and the response time of the game is impressive. Dodge, block, jump, attack while all the enemies move around can be pulled off easily. There are no 'BS I hit block and I got hit anyway' moments. I played it on hard, trust me.

LEVEL DESIGN: Superb. No more wandering endless hallways like in previous 3d entries. You actually feel immersed in this world of fantasy. The atmosphere in the game is one of its strongest points and captures the theme it wants to portray with incredible accuracy. You will feel the world your character is fighting through and wonder if he will be able to pull off this feat to save the land from eternal darkness. The transition from one area to the next is coherent, and you can actually envision the areas you traverse through translated onto a 2D map. Portals are used occasionally when there is an abrupt change of scenery but for the most part the levels stay true to the chapter and environments. The level design influences the pace of the game greatly, and what also stands out is that none of the platforming gets overwhelming in the veins say of Uncharted. It is balanced enough that there will be hordes waiting to attack you once you get comfortable thinking 'oh this is the jumping around stage' or something like that. I had no problems uncovering which ledges were to be jumped onto nor did I die aimlessly trying to get to a ledge that was not meant to be jumped on. If you try to sweep through the game though I think you might get that effect, taking an extra second or so to move around would erase this mishap. You will see that the ledges to access are visible and easy to reach. The puzzles in this game are very clever. They are not frustratingly difficult like in some of the painting puzzles found in Assassin's Creed 2 ( thanks to History of Art & Architecture classes 1, 2 and 3 that I took in college was the only way I was able to get around those ) they make you think, offer a hint to its solution, and give you some sense of accomplishment when you discover the answer. I mean the level inside the music box is a fairy tale moment...Only knock I can give to the level design is that most of the boss battles occur in some type of circular platform, although they were able to camouflage it well for the most part, and I was only able to pick this up my second time through the game on the Paladin difficulty.

BEASTIARY: Fantastic. Castlevania Lords of Shadow throws an extensive onslaught of enemies at you and holds a large number of bosses to defeat. Anything from Goblins, Werewolves, Lycans, Skeleton Warriors, Chupacabras, Knights, Giant Spiders, Vampires and everything else they forgot to put into the previous installments they are found here. You would think with such a large number of enemies that the quantity and quality of the bosses would suffer. That is not the case at all. They're are 20 unique boss battles to be found in the game, which are quite epic for the most part. Three of them are larger than your TV can handle size, dwarfing the boss battle experience I had in Tartarus on God of War III. True to Castlevania form, some bosses do not let you wink until you defeat them or Quicktime event them to death or it will end up costing you your life. The battles are usually long and have in-battle checkpoints due to the length of them, but if you made it there with only one more blow to endure, you will end up having to finish the battle as is if you do not have any Light Magic to replenish your health. ( I went through this mishap on my battle with Cornell, although it made it more interesting, it was difficult to finish him off, albeit on hard ) The boss health bar has two distinct colors, a reddish/orange tone which depicts its normal state and a silver gray one which calls for a special move to be executed in order to proceed damage. This could be either a Quicktime event, a puzzle to be solved, or a simple press of the action button ( R2 on PS3 ) There are several memorable battles, The Gravedigger, Carmilla, all 3 Titans, the Giant Ogre, to name a few. You are not going to feel like any boss is a cheap one, although the first one pales to all the rest in every way but it does a good job of pacing you well towards the rest of the game. My only complaint would be that you do not battle the Grim Reaper per se...but that is later explained in the story.

DIFFICULTY: Above average. Most videogames these days are rather easy or have no difficulty setting at all ( Assassin's Creed 2 ) which can take away from the overall feeling of accomplishment once you go through them. This game stays true to the difficulty settings found in former and old school games as it is not an easy one to finish. The game itself lingers around the 20 hours play through on any setting because of its length so real time would be somewhere north of the 30 to 40 hour range. This means that you will die...a lot. There is no 'wall' in the game, a place where you will die twenty thousand times trying to get through it like in Dante's Inferno or God of War III, but figuring out the patterns of the bosses and miscalculating a jump or two will set you back a couple of hours as you face the red screen of death. I must have died at least once facing the 20 bosses in the game, so be prepared. This is not a game to bulldoze through. But don't worry, it's nowhere near the sadistic levels of difficulty of Ninja Gaiden II on Xbox360. There is a difficulty setting, and it apparently only affects the damage you can endure and the damage you inflict on the enemies & bosses, hence the easier the setting the faster they die, and vice versa. I saw no difference in the number of enemies thrown at you from hard to very hard, something quite prevalent in Dante's Inferno, but there is a trophy or achievement to be gained this time around from actually beating the game in a higher difficulty setting. Awesome.

LASTING APPEAL: With incredible boss battles, a terrific atmosphere and an incredible storyline, Lords of Shadow is a must play for any action/adventure fan. It executes tried formulas effectively and has a clear theme to the game weaved into the music, its look, plot and pace that when you look at the game as a whole after you've finished it you will realize how well done the game is. Two Downloadable Contents will be released early this year that will further enhance the experience, something unthinkable as there is so much already packed in the main game.

LAST THOUGHTS: This is the best action/adventure game of 2010 and probably one that many people stay on the fence over because of the failures of its predecessors but make no mistake, if you have not played this game yet you are missing out on one of the most epic games you will ever play.

I rate it a 9.2 / 10.0

Contacting Genius modes and will ship back to controller (my dime) so they can fix R2.

In the past I've taken several controllers apart and either fixed or modified them but that would break the warranty here.

Other than the R2 button the controller works very well although the metal sticks (imo) aren't as good as the regular sticks when it comes to precision and quick movements.Once I get this fixed I will change my review to 4 stars.

I had my PS3 for three years and mostly used it to watch movies. After getting my hands on IronMan 2 in blu-ray I tried to play the movie only to find out my PS3 wouldn't read the disc. After multiple attempts, including other movies and games, my PS3s' disc reading abilities was dead. After lots of research I found out that a number of units' lasers go bad and Sony wanted $200 to fix it when it's out of warranty. Luckily I found that it could be easily replaced, which lead me to finding this product. Not only was it cheap, but it arrived very fast and was truly easy to install. After putting everything together, my PS3 could now read discs again. I would recommend this to anyone who had the same issues I had with my PS3. Boo Sony for not acknowledging this issue and offering a fix similar to what Microsoft did with the red ring of death.

I am typing up this review a mere day after replacing my dysfunctional stock PS3 bluray lens (on an older 60GB PS3) with this product. Bearing that in mind, this review only reflects my initial thoughts and may be subject to change pending the ongoing performance of the product; I've been hearing that some of these replacement kits (not necessarily this model) tend to go bad very early in their life.

Installation was quite easy if you are patient and do not rush. I initially made the mistake of disassembling the bluray drive to find that I left a disc inside the drive. Do NOT disassemble the drive with a disc inside of it. Some of the mechanisms, specifically those repsonsible for insertion and ejection of the disc, are in a state of tension with a disc present and will not go back together easily. Youtube is a good source for DIY videos regarding lens replacement.

The only comment I can make regarding product performance is that it is working normally, and that is all I asked for. If it holds up, then I'll stand by my initial assessment that this is an excellent, cost-effective alternative to other fixes available at the moment. For roughly $30, it's at least worth a try before exploring other options.

::Warning:: Don't make the mistake of leaving a disc inside your PS3 before taking it apart!!! If I hadn't done that, installation would have gone a lot smoother. But since I did, I had to take a few extra steps and do an emergency eject. It wasn't hard to do though...

Installed this about a month or two ago. It was easy, and I haven't had any problems since. I'll update this review if the laser goes bad.

Wow...graphics are awful for next gen...looks like a ps2 game. Camera is pretty bad. Combat is remedial, repetitive and just plain boring. I can't believe somebody gave this a 5 star rating. Please, don't trust me or the other person...go to a games site and check out a "professional" review...guaranteed to save you money on this. It'll be in the bargain bin before the movie hits dvd. IMHO, you'd be crazy to spend the full sixty bucks on this game. I suppose if you are a hard core fan of the books/movie, then anything with this theme will be desirable to a degree, but if not for the license, this game would be DOA. Actually, it pretty much still is.

This is more like watching a trimmed-down, horribly rendered, poorly scripted version of a movie only it costs more and takes longer!

Gameplay is virtually nonexistent. You don't really do much of anything but guide the characters down short paths, engage in minor button-pressing battles, and press sequences of buttons to manipulate objects for some odd reason. Walking across balance beams is exceptionally slow and tedious.

Most of your time is spent engaged in ridiculous dialogs which cannot progress until you play three or more extremely poor-quality mini games such as "push the balls into a hole", "avoid the balls", "match the symbols" and so on.

Your Pan discovers symbols throughout your journey which make it easier to answer questions using the Alethiometer. Keep the target to the center until a button symbol appears, then press the button and then go through that two more times for the answer to the question to be revealed, allowing you to pass on to the next pointless activity.

Graphics are minimally detailed. Not much to see, and it all looks similar. Enemies include the dude in a tall hat, the dude with antlers on his head, the flamethrower guy in an underwater helmet, the witch, and the bear, maybe one more. Each class of character comes in only one flavor and is barely articulated it's pathetic.

Audio is the only thing cool about this game, although at points it gets choppy and cuts out on occasion.

Is this what the gaming industry is coming to? What a waste of programmers' time! What a waste of everyone's time, really.

They had it at Wal Mart for $10, so I thought I'd play it through. Absolutely dumb game. I'm not sure how others justify a five star review.

Bought this game for my 10yr. old daughter and she loves it as much as she loved the movie...thats all that matters to me on this one.

Shes well pleased with it so...so am I.

With graphics that certainly cannot be considered high-quality, and a plot that does not even follow the movie correctly--let alone the book, this game really was no more and no less than I expected it to be. When it comes to games based off movies, it is rare that you'll find one that is truly good. And seeing how the movie wasn't exactly a smash anyhow, you can only expect the game to be half (at the least) as good as the film. I finished the game within 3 days, it wasn't a challenge for me. And it was absurdly boring, but seeing how I had nothing better to do, I went on and finished it anyway. If you enjoy cheesy, slow-going, and horribly animated video games or are much to young to tell the difference between a good game and a bad game, this is for you. If you like games that are...well, not, then try something else.

Tekken Hybrid is a great little package that die hard Tekken fans will totally love. Containing an HD update of the great Tekken Tag Tournament, a "prologue" of the upcoming Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and the full-length CG animated feature Tekken: Blood Vengeance. All that at a relatively budget price makes Tekken Hybrid a more than worthy pick up, for the most part that is. The original Tekken Tag Tournament is still a great game over a decade plus later, and has received a little bit of a visual upgrade as well. What's disappointing however is that there is no online play at all. I personally would have loved to have taken Takken Tag online, and there's no reason why it couldn't have been either. The prologue for Tekken Tag 2 is spectacular, featuring four fighters and glorious graphics, and will leave you salivating for the full game to be released. The Tekken: Blood Vengeance CG film is a mixed bag to say it lightly. The animation is beautiful yes, but only the most hardcore of Tekken fans will get maximum enjoyment out of it. All in all, Tekken Hybrid is an awesome package to pick up, and will leave you yearning for Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which can't come out soon enough.

The Tekken Hybrid Limited Edition package is the best!I was waiting with much anticipation of this bundle and when I bought it I was not disappointed at all.The best part is that it comes with the movie which itself was very good, much better than the live action film they made recently. As a bonus it comes with a preview of Tekken Tag Tournament 2.In the demo you are able to use Devil Jin,Devil Kazuya,Alisa, and Xiaoyu(chosen for the obvious reason that these are the main characters of the movie).Another reason to buy the Limited Edition is that it comes with the soundtrack of TTT and TTT2.I think personally that the compositions for the games are sublime. However the most important thing about this package is the actual Tekken Tag Tournament game in HD!It brought back many good memories and nastalgia.Very good buy!!!

This edition is the ultimate Tekken Fan package,it's incredible,it is worth the price,Tekken Tag Tournamet 1 stands the test of time as one of the best fighting games ever made, the HD bump in graphics is also a plus,TTT 2 makes me wish it would be coming out sooner, the adjustments in fighting, the graphics, man I can't wait.....and Blood Vengeance,It's a Tekken film, nothing spectacular in the story department but it makes it up in the visuals,The 3D is also very well done ,in short if you are a Tekken Fan I highly recommend this package!

Tekken Hybrid Limited Edition. Nostalgia trip ticket back to the great early PS2 days! Now in HD. Such a great game it makes you wonder why such the long wait for a sequel?... This game has also been out for a while now too so the price has dropped quite a bit. So the question is, Should I get this game for $14 or get the Limited Edition for $30? If you're a hardcore Tekken fan and just haven't had the chance to pick this up yet, get the $30 LE otherwise get the $14 standard version. I got the LE since I am a hardcore Tekken fan.

The standard version has TTT in HD, this alone is well worth $14. Such a great classic fighting game that brought Tekken to a whole new level of fighting by introducing tag team! On the disc is also a demo with trophies for TTT2 Prologue. This was months before TTT2 was released so this was a first hands on for TTT2 out of Japan. The demo has 4 fighters, Alisa, Xiaoyu, Devil Jin, and Kazuya who was in his Devil form. It also has 3 stages that will be in TTT2. The thing about this demo is that they have outfits from the Tekken: Blood Vengeance and Devil Jin and Kazuya alone is why I still play the demo. The devil forms in the demo look EFF'N AWESOME!!! Too bad they didn't include those outfits in TTT2. Maybe in a update hopefully. Third, they have the Tekken CG movie, Tekken: Blood Vengeance in 2D and 3D. The movie could have been better, It was still pretty good, it just took a while to get going. Could of used more fighters from the game, and more fights. The fight scenes however, do not dissapoint! The climactic fight is just stunning and BAD A**!!!

Now with the LE, you get all that was stated above, also with a 2 disc music CD that has all the Tekken Tag music on it. You also get The art of Tekken hardcover book that shows art work and the making of Tekken: BV and a look at the actors/actresses that voiced the fighters. Pretty decent book! All of this comes in a nice case to place it all. It did have a voucher for Tekken items in PS Home, but it has expired since it has been out for a while. This is the only negative about the LE. Yet though it could be why the price has dropped some, so for a LE that contains all of this for $30 is really good. A great classic fighting game and a great price = a great buy!

P.S. Tekken Bowl is also a great plus in this game!

Want TEKKEN Hybrid Limited Edition Discount?

Let me start off by saying that I begrudged this "Limited Edition" first, because I already owned Tekken Tag Tournament for PS2; and second I REALLY wasn't impressed with Tekken 6!!! Honestly, I haven't been impressed with Tekken since TTT for PS2...I think somewhere along the development line the sparkle has been lost or something. (Yeah, 5 was pretty and 6 is gorgeous & in spanking HD...but something is missing...I won't even go there with 4!!!)

Ok, so you got a box of stuff. What's in it? An HD remake, a demo, a movie, a book, some DLC and a two disc soundtrack. (Note: if you don't have an HD TV you might not wanna bother with this because frankly, I couldn't tell the difference between the two until I did a direct comparison of TTT (PS2) and TTHD (PS3)on my son's Vizio with an HDMI cable...the difference (HUGE!!!) is stunning...Now I see why MANY people retire their PS2 games...they run VERY fuzzy on PS3!!! I own a 60GB PS3...)

The HDremake game is MILES from the first. Yes, it plays basically the same as the first, but the graphic detail is undeniable. The good thing is ALL the characters come shipped unlocked. The ONLY slight bad thing is...maybe it's my PS3, but when I was selecting characters my selector froze on me. Maybe it's just my system. All the bells & whistles are packed in...especially Tekken Bowl!!! (Knock out Bosconovich for an added chuckle!!!)

TT2-Prologue is a mixed bag...WELL, actually it's a GREAT bag!!! It's pretty, LOTS of combos, bumpin music. But, like I experienced with Tekken 6...somethings missing!!! (Ok, yeah...the rest of the characters!!! No, seriously...I've been with Katsuhiro Harada since the first Tekken on PS1...so I feel like I kinda have a tiny bit of insight here...sorry folks!!!)

The movie is CG with some truly amazing visuals, but preposterous plot. I mean, come on...Mokujin..or a million mokujins forming around Heihachi to create a godzilla-type creature??? Umm...YEAH!!! What weed were ya'll smokin??? Beautiful artwork...puzzling, but it i what it is...

The book is top notch...PERIOD!!! Nice visuals, lots of concept sketches, MANY composites of the TTT characters. VERY well done. The only thing that I possibly would have included is a silver autograph from Harada...Yeah, it would have increased the asking price, but SOME Tekken fans like myself would have coughed up the bread, nonetheless...

I just recently d/l'd Playstation Home (beta) so I really don't feel qualified to comment on the DLC. I have seen the t-shirt that they let you put on...kinda generic, but it is what it is...

The soundtrack. Oh boy!!! This is definitely where the value comes in. So, I did a little bit of research for soundtracks. Tekken Tag Tournament (the one with the 4 remixes at the end of the CD) is roughly $17.00. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has to be ordered from overseas; it's gonna run you about $45.00 (minus 2 extended edits on the disc) So, honestly, you are at ALMOST the cost of the bundle itself if you were to buy JUST the soundtracks. Nuff said...

All in all, like I mentioned before, I begrudged Namco for releasing something that I was ignorant of. I thought I was being taken for a ride. Boy, was I wrong!!! It's a TREMENDOUS value. A LOT of stuff is offered here. Get it before sellers jack up the price.

"EXCELLENT!!!" --Lee Chaolan
