I've personally purchased every FIFA game since 2001 and played the game since it first appeared on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. That's over a decade of yearly iterations plus the "World Cup" and "UEFA" editions. I know what I'm talking about.

FIFA 08 on the PS3 is the best FIFA game ever to be released on a Sony system. The graphics and music are top-notch, but that's standard for the game's last few years.

Where the game breaks new ground is in the physics department. Never have professional athletes been honoured with such life-like avatars. Every kick, deak and tackle looks and more importantly feels like the real thing. The new shooting mechanics are inspired as are the ball physics. Combined these two components push the realism through the roof.

The list of impressive attributes continues: loading times are nearly non-existent, Create-a-player is more robust, the arena interface (also found in EA's NBA LIVE 08) is simple and fun and the addition of custom formations is a long awaited boon.

Finally the return of "The Lounge", the tweaking of "Manager Mode" and the addition of the "Be-A-Pro Mode"(which allows the user to control only one player during the match) ups the replay value exponentially.

FIFA 08 is stellar really an awesome buy for anyone looking for a great sports game. My only complaint involves the lacklustre commentary, which despite being broad in scope is less than enthusiastic.

That small flaw aside, EA has a real winner here. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

This is the best FIFA Soccer game yet the graphics are wonderful on a 1080p DLP TV and the presentation, licensing, is top notch. Gameplay is much improved, although I agree with several previous reviewers on two very important points:

1. When defending, all you can really do is run alongside the ball handler and try to pressure him off of the ball. That's it. Timing a tackle can also work, but if you miss, you're in odd-man situation and the AI does a fairly good job at working a shot.

2. Trying to execute a 'trick' move is very hard to do, must be anticipated well in advance, and even then, there is little success. Even in extreme situations (i.e. C Ronaldo vs. any Derby County defender get the point).

Also, the AI seems very proficient at corner kicks much more proficient then you will find you will be able to be. But enough criticism. The game is fun, has very little framerate issues (you'll see a slight hesitation rarely), has great stadiums & kits and plays well online. This is a big step for this franchise and sets the stage for a (potentially) very strong, PES-challenging game platform. In fact, FIFA '08 is strong enough to make those of us fluent in the PES/Winning Eleven series to start nit-picking that game (mainly, the lack of licensing and amount of editing needed to be done to present the teams & kits properly). What's important at the end of the day, however, is the play on the pitch, and FIFA has made big strides. It's not quite as smooth and responsive as PES, but the gap is narrowing and "Seabass" (the producer of PES 2008) should be on DEFCOM alert 4.

Purchase with confidence enjoy!

I'm a football video gaming freak and have been for a decade now. With regards to this game, i feel it is one of the best fifa games i've ever played. visuals, audio and detail is brilliant. however, most of us want to get INTO the game only to an extent, and what matters most is the gameplayviz passing, shooting, making moves. I completely echo review "JB"'s comments. Antipation is key, but even if you know what to do have pulled off the button combination for attack/defend, the player responsiveness just is not as sharp and timely as you would find in a pro evolution soccer game. I know, now you must be thinking I am biased towards the latter, but I've played fifa games for a decade now and I know what a fantastic football game should be like. In this latest version, like JB said, when you defend you can't do much apart from run alongside the attacker and hope for the best, and attacking, again because you have to anticipate so far in advance it makes it difficult to put any classy move together. Fun to play in doubles or more though, since controller sensitivity and player response frustrations are mitigated somewhat. overall still a fun game, and probably the best until evo 2008 comes out. if fifa can just tweak the current game play to make the players slightly more responsive, there would be no competition. alas, another year to be spent in hope

Fifa 08 is a very good game. I sold my Fifa 10 (very frustrating, especially w/ foul system) and traded down to the closest thing to Fifa 07 which was this. At first experience playing on semi-pro level, it was very difficult to score goals. However, over time I got experienced and it wasn't difficult for me anymore. Keeping it short & simple. PROS: Excellent graphics, Good AI, Ability to manage finances in Manager Mode (not avail. in Fifa 10). CONS: Sometimes other teammates get in your way when you're on the ball, They are sometimes non-responsive when the ball is passed to them, No milestone for every five goal increment, Commentators sometimes give false info, Commentator judgments are often delayed, or slow, Absence of referee on the field (only shows up for R/Y cards). Overall Fifa 08 is a very good game and I would recommend it.

Finally, how grateful am I that a true soccer game has returned. I'm pleased to say that this is the best FIFA that has come in years. The feel of the game, the graphics, the sounds, the new gameplay, etc. I'll try not to make this a long review so here it goes. FIFA has all of the clubs that matter, (and many that don't, really) with official kits, boots, balls, stadiums and many more. The new addition is the shooting system, place the ball where you want it. There is also the new be a pro mode that allows you to play with a single player and be judged on your performance. I have said before that FIFA was becoming an expensive roster update, but I must now take that back and judge this game as excellent. Please, if you love soccer, do us all a favor and pick this game, you won't regret it, I bet my life on it.

Bought this to get some extra USB slots and it works great.

I was a bit hesitant after seeing the other review mentioning that it wasn't that snug...I found that at first as well then decided to read the manual before throwing it away, there is a hook on the right hand side that fits into the PS3, then you hook up the USB side...this makes it a lot tighter and a better fit.

This was the best accessory I ever purchased for the PS3. It fits perfectly and is completely snug IF INSTALLED CORRECTLY! Make sure to install the hook end FIRST then the usb port SECOND. If installed that way, it works absolutely perfectly! I tried every port and it read everything that I plugged in and quickly too.

On top of it all, it's aesthetically pleasing which basically it doesn't stick out far and fits perfectly. When installed, it looks like its part of the system naturally! No large jutting pieces or anything like other media expansions.

I would recommend this to anyone, its cheap, and literally perfect! A MUST BUY FOR ANY PS3 USER!

This media expansion bar works fine, but Power A should definitely re-think their definition of "seamless." It fits okay, but to me does not look like part of the system (as the box and product description would have you believe). I've used it to transfer videos and photos as well as play Rock Band and it has worked well thus far. The only other thing is you have to be careful when removing USB connectors and media cards as the unit doesn't really fit into the PS3 all that securely. All in all I think I would have been better off getting a media hub slim, but was able to get this new for less than 10 bucks so couldn't pass it up, and I'd say it was worth what I paid for it.

This product was a little bit tricky to install. If you don't pay attention to the small hook-shaped tab, you can easily plug the device in incorrectly, which will cause it to feel wobbly and loose. Once it is installed correctly though, the usb hub/card reader fits very securely.

The device blends in with the system perfectly and you can barely notice it's there, which is a plus. I plugged in an Eye Toy camera, charged 2 controllers and a bluetooth headset, and everything seemed to function just fine.

The main reason I chose this Expansion Bar is because I used to own a 60GB model ps3 that had 4 usb ports and a multi-card reader, and this add-on attachment basically brings those features back.

I used to always keep a memory stick pro duo plugged into my 60gb ps3 and I used to routinely back up my game saves to it. The cool thing about the 60gb ps3 was that there was a plastic door that concealed the card reader and you could keep the memory cards plugged in at all times without worry of dust or having the sticks accidentally bumped. After testing out the card reader for this "Media Expansion Bar", I noticed that the pro duo memory card stuck out almost an inch out of the front like a flimsy diving board. I was hoping to leave the memory card in there at all times, but the memory stick can easily be bumped and possibly damaged because it sticks out so far. The ps3 detected the memory stick just fine and I was able to import and export game saves, music, and other files with ease. Another problem with the card reader is that there is no door or covers to keep dust out of the open memory card slots, so expect a lot of dust to build up after a while.

Overall, here is what I loved and hated about the "POWER A Media Expansion Bar":

LOVED:

I can finally charge multiple accessories without having to unplug something else (4 USB ports)

The device blends in with the console, not too bulky

fits very securely into the system (if installed correctly)

HATED:

the "hook" part can be a little tricky to install (and uninstall)

memory cards stick out too far, putting the cards data or the card itself at risk of damage

no way to keep dust out of card reader

In the end, this is great USB hub and I am mostly satisfied, but if you are looking to keep your memory cards plugged in at all times, look elsewhere.

Want POWER A Media Expansion Bar for PS3 Slim Discount?

Overall I like the product; for the money, it is a nice way to add some additional ports and memory card slots (which I miss not having after owning an original PS3 "fat").

The fit and finish in my opinion is just fine snaps right in fairly tight. It took about 5 seconds to install, and seemed to work flawlessly for the last month.

So why only 3 stars? I went to plug in my PS3 SingStar USB microphones (branded and sold specifically for PS3; not some cheapo aftermarket thing), and the SingStar program continually kept recognizing and then dropping the microphones. I finally unplugged my new media expansion bar and just used the original PS3 USB ports, and the microphones worked perfectly. So bottom line, all of your accessories may not work with this product, which is a major flaw.

Still, overall for the money it is decent. If you just play normal games (no singing) and need the memory card slots for slideshows, etc, then this product will be fine for you. And it detaches fairly easily, so if you have to temporarily disconnect it, it isn't a big deal.

Overall recommended, but just go in knowing that it isn't a perfect product.

With the recent announcement of the PS4, you might think that the era of the PS3 is over. But it isn't yet. I hadn't owned a gaming console for several years when I found out about Ni no Kuni. Now, I played my fair share of games back in the day, but the video game market in recent years has just seemed... dull. In large part that's because I don't care for first-person shooters or fantasy sports games. I don't begrudge anyone who does, but I play games for the same reason I read books: to escape into a story. Online shootouts with trigger-happy 14-year olds just doesn't do it for me.

Of course, the gaming studios mainly make games for those 14-year olds, not me. So instead of original content and new stories, we get Call of Duty sequels. So when I found out Studio Ghibli was involved in production of a video game, I was only cautiously optimistic. It seemed too good to be true, and it was hard to imagine that their first video game collaboration would be a resounding success. Then I saw the screenshots... and that was when I started poking around eBay for a second-hand PS3.

Because, you see, the game art is astounding. It's really a step above any video game world you've ever seen. Ni no Kuni is simply a Studio Ghibli anime rendered as an entire walk-through world. As you play, you'll come across a scene and think it's the best-looking shot in the game. And then, a few minutes later, you'll come across something better. One of my favorite visuals comes late in the game: a character's backstory told with haunting, comic book-style sketches. It should go without saying that this isn't a game you want to play on an old CRT TV: an HD screen is the way to go, the larger the better (mine is a 100-inch projection system I was worried about quality, but the game looks great.) Also, turn up the volume: I'd be denying the skill of Joe Hisaishi if I didn't mention the music. In my opinion, it's the best score he's done since Spirited Away.

Now, if the game just looked and sounded great, it would still be worth playing. But the other half of the game's development was done by Level 5. Level 5 has been building critically-acclaimed JRPG's for over a decade. And they've been getting better at it. The story builds throughout the game, is clever and amusing, and seems to make an effort to avoid cliches while also making fun of them (your first major objective in the game is to find the king's red herring). As a resident of southeast Michigan, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that this is certainly the first time Detroit (or a throwback to a 50's era Detroit suburb, rather) has been featured in a JRPG! There's even a "To I-75 North" sign on one of the streets in the neighborhood.

The battle system in Ni no Kuni is the best and most fun I've ever used a clever hybrid of live-action and turn-based attacks. Basically, most actions have a time-out period after you use them, but you're still free to move around the arena, or cancel an in-progress attack if you suddenly need to cast a spell instead. But that's not all like most games involving physical battle, there are defensive moves (usually overlooked in favor of repeatedly pressing the attack button!) In Ni no Kuni, you must learn when to defend, when to attack, and when to use provisions/spells if you're going to beat the game.

I played the game all the way through and completed all the side-quests. In the end, it took me just over 100 hours spread across January to April, but you could certainly do it in less, and I could have easily spent more. A big factor in this game is how many familiars you want to collect and battle with I only had about 30 total. There's also an entire in-game book (the Wizard's Companion), of which I've read only bits-and-pieces. If you think the game is expensive, think of it this way: if you buy the game at full price and a used PS3 for, say, $200 total, you're paying $2/hour for entertainment for a few months. My only real complaints are the click-through dialog text, which gets to be repetitive, and that most of the side-quests weren't very hard. But really, these are small complaints in a masterpiece game. Quite frankly, if you're on the edge about playing the game, you should go do it. You won't regret it.

I am a fan of Studio Ghibli. More of a fan of Hayao Miyazaki (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Howl's Moving Castle) but he has had a hand in selecting animators for Studio Ghibli over the years and is himself an exceptional animator. So for that reason alone I have been anxiously awaiting to see the great animation cut scenes for this game. Not to mention music by Joe Hisaishi, composer for Howl's Moving Castle and Ponyo.

I am by no means a fan of RPG's or JRPG's. I am just a fan of art and video games are one medium I really enjoy. Mainly because a big team of people make an entire world for us to explore and play in. LEVEL 5 is a master at this. This is the closest I have seen a game come to looking like an animated film. Although I do have to note that the Namco's game Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm blew my mind with its cell shading and anime look, as well as Rayman Origins with it's wonderful 2D side scrolling animations. This LEVEL 5 production takes playing in the world of animation to a whole other level. Side note, like Naruto you can choose to have the English dubbed track or the Japanese audio with English subtitles which I think is great.

I am not very far into this game and will update as I venture further into it. As of now, I have had no glitches or problems, load times are as expected. The controls are tight and responsive, the visuals are stunning of course.

The inner kid in me wishes that they had released a game this massive and epic and cartoony when I was a kid. The main character Oliver and his guide Mr. Drippy are very classic Studio Ghibli styled characters and the animation cut scenes have been most impressive so far. The learning curve is pretty nice for this style of RPG. As my only familiarity with RPG's are Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, and Eternal Sonata, and in that order, I can't really compare this to many other RPG's. I have read some things online comparing this game to Pokemon for the Gameboy (mainly because you capture creatures or "familiars" who help you in your battles), I can't speak to that. What I really like about the battle system is that it is not just button mashing or the regular RPG style pick and choose how to attack and then watch it happen, but being in real time and an open battleground, it is to your advantage to stay moving when attacking the enemy. So far I haven't found the errands (side quests) to be repetitive. Compared to the aforementioned games however, this will undoubtedly go down as a classic among them. I have heard this game can be beaten in about 40 hours if you don't do any errands and just stick to the story. Something tells me you can squeeze a good 65 hours out of this at least.

Any fan of Studio Ghibli films, classic RPG's like Chrono Trigger and any fan of solid game design need to get this. Highly Recommended. If you are a huge nerd like me, you should try and get your hands on the Wizard Edition, it comes with a physical copy of the Wizard's companion that you use in the game.

*UPDATE*

I am a big fan of what they have done with the familiars in this game. There are a lot, 14 different genuses and each genuses (Arcana, Dracones, and Vermes to name a few) has countless different familiars within their respective class. Each with their own unique abilites which makes gameplay very deep when doing battle with enemies who's weakness may be exploited with a particular familiar.

Like other reviewers have said, the world map is stellar and detailed and harkens back to old school RPG's. This game does take a while to get going, but if you played Assassins Creed III, then this game in comparison seems like it gets going immediately. So far I have not had to use the Prima Guide I ordered for this game. The in game Wizard companion book is very helpful. I can't wait to get my Wizard Edition to have the physical copy that will make it much easier to reference. The more I play the more I love this game. Unfortunately I am stuck at work, otherwise I probably would have played all night and would still be playing now.

Buy Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Now

Ever since I saw My Neighbor Totoro as a kid back in the early 1990's, I had wanted to see what would happen when Studio Ghibli combines their efforts with another developer to create a video game. Now that we have the end result, I couldn't be more satisfied. P.S., this is going to be one heck of a bias review.

Ni No Kuni is one of the best JRPG'S I have ever played. Combining Studio Ghibli's incredible imagination with Level 5's polished and fun gameplay mechanics, Ni No Kuni feels like the JRPG'S of old while revitalizing a dying genre. It feels like Dragon Quest VIII (a personal favorite), mixing elements of Tales, Star Ocean, and Pokemon into one pot of pure bliss. And man, how I've missed an overworld!

The story and world sucks you in right quick, creating a sense of charm and wonder right from the get go. The opening is a tear-jerker, creating a sense of desperation and sympathy for our hero, Oliver. More than anything, Studio Ghibli's incredible ability to create such unique and real emotion in such with their animation is one of their strengths, and combining that with Level 5's sincere approach to the story, it works like magic. Right away, you meet Drippy, one of the most incredibly charismatic and lovable characters to ever grace a video game. The writing and script is top notch, filled with hilarious dialogue and wonderful characters (that feature some of the best English Dubs of any JRPG translation that I've played).

Battles play out like a synthesis of Tales meets Pokemon. You gain control of familiars, small creates that have attributes (sword and shield, tank, fire, etc.) that do your fighting in battles. You can also take control of Oliver to command him to use various tools such as the ability to use items, heal, and run. Battles begin fairly simple with you fighting one to two monsters, but the progression exponentially increases and by no time battles become chaotic affairs that will test your wit and reflexes. The combat is incredibly addicting, rewarding constant interaction and movement on the battlefield. One of the best features is the real time aspect of the battle system. If you command your familiars to attack, defend, and use tricks (or special abilities) at the right time HP and MP orbs fall from your enemies, offering a quick heal. It sounds like a simple mechanic, but it keeps you constantly engaged while in combat, offering a fun, fast paced and exciting tug of war against your enemies.

Story telling is, to put it simply, reminiscent of Studio Ghibli. A hero going on an epic adventure to save his kingdom, healing the people of the land of their broken-heartedness, all while trying to save your mother sounds, walks, and talks just a Ghibli presentation shoud. NNK can be enjoyed by a younger audience, but the elements here are consistently dark and mature, which comes as a major relief. Keeping it spoiler free, the game engages you quite well. It's a simple yet emotionally effective story that grabs you right away.

Also of note is Joe Hisaishi's majestic, sweeping, and beautiful original score. Frequent collaborator with Studio Ghibli, Joe was (gladly) offered to compose the score, and man is it incredible. The overworld theme is still reverberating in my head as I write this. It captures the moods with gorgeous melodies and memorable themes. It allows you to explore and enjoy an already tremendous achievement all the more. They seriously need to release the PS3 soundtrack, because this is as good as JRPG and video game scores get.

And speaking of outside influence, Studio Ghibli made a significant contribution in the art department. There are original animated cut scenes produced by Ghibli themselves (namely Momose)which are wonderful (especially in HD!), the monsters are original and cute, and the gorgeous colors used in the backdrops provoke the imagination. Everything is here, and it feels like Ghibli production combined with Level 5's JRPG mastery in full force.

If there are any complaints (and these are minor grievances) it's that the draw distance is nothing to write home about. On the world map you'll see mountains "peel" in in the distance, and foliage in more graphically intensive areas obviously pops in as you walk through the areas. This is such a minor complaint though, honestly, as it comes from years of playing games and eventually noticing technical "tricks" that developers use to cut corners.

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is sincere, wholesome, and most importantly FUN entertainment that might just be the last push the JRPG genre needs to get its legs again in a predominantly "bald-space-dude-marine-bro" controlled market. Some may ask "why is the title stupid?" or say "it looks like a game for ten year olds!," which at that point I would say that Ni No Kuni game isn't appropriate for them. If you aren't willing to give the game a shot, you'll be missing out. Ni No Kuni takes skill, dedication, and maturity to play and enjoy this long and challenging adventure; it dares to be different from just about every JRPG out there, straying from the spiky-hair-big-sword cliches that have plagued the genre for years, and succeeds so incredibly well at doing so.

And in case you just looked to the end to see the score or closing comments, here they are: Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch is one of the best JRPG's ever made, and it rightfully deserves the praise it is receiving. Part homage to JRPG's and part fan service for Studio Ghibli lovers, it's hard not to like Ni No Kuni. If you love RPG's/JRPG's, this is a no brainer. If you love Studio Ghibli, this is a no brainer. If you've been looking to jump into the genre, you won't get a better chance. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a steroid shot to the imagination, giving players freedom to explore one of the best adventures this console generation. It's a masterpiece that won't soon be forgotten.

It's not every day we are given such an incredible gem. Just leaving here with one comment: Thank you Level-5 for the incredible adventure and Studio Ghibli for continuing to create entertainment that is both wholesome and enjoyable.

So what are you waiting for? Go play Ni No Kuni for flippen sake!

Afterthoughts: Just completed the game! My opinions from the beginning couple hours have not changed. I love Ni No Kuni even more now. The ending tied up and explained all of the mysteries and loose ends (without being stupid, farfetched, or cliche), the characters came full circle and were developed so well, and Oliver really grows up into a hero, and a quite likable one at that. There seems to be plenty of post game challenges left, so consider me excited to continue exploring this world.

Total play time for story run: 51:14:06.

Final score: 10/10

I have not had this much fun playing a game since I first bought the original Playstation and Final Fantasy VII and hooked it up.The game looks like it was made for kids when you first see the animation but don't let that fool you. This game is deep. The story line is inviting and the battle system is challenging and down right fun!! I have to drag myself away from it to do important life things like work! I am a fifty something old man who has been playing video games since Pong. And this game may just very well be the best I have ever played. To me it is that good !!

Want Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Discount?

I am not an RPG fan like most reviewers here. I was drawn in by my love for Studio Gibli, and the breathless universal enthusiasm for the game. Indeed the game looks like a Studio Gibli epic, and everything about it is top-notch in terms or quality. The art is stunning. The story tugs at heart strings (even if having mom keel over and die is a little un-subtle way to tug them).

However several hours in and I am struggling to maintain interest. The battle system may be great for this type of game, but I find it tedious and repetitive. Walk walk walk, fight, walk walk walk, fight, walk, fight, die, back up and repeat. The enemies are cute, but repetitive and flat. Fighting involves a ton of selecting this character and that spell that takes a while to deal with, pulling me out if the action. I'm sure this gets more intuitive after a while, but often I wish I could just slash away and be done with it.

It is like playing a movie, except for the fact that most of the dialog is just subtitles, and there are boring stretches of Pokemon style battles every 30 seconds as you go on some errand to find some thing to enable some other thing. I do love the fact that the gameplay is indistinguishable (almost) from the cut scenes. But the fact is the characters are 2D cartoons, so that shouldn't be such a feat. Having just played Skyrim for a million hours, I am no stranger to walking and fighting and running errands, but this feels more like a chore. I felt much more immersed in Skyrim. In Ni No Kuni I feel much more bogged down by menus and stuck on the tracks of the story.

That said, the more interactive story engagement sections of the game are wonderful, if a little corny and childlike.

I have a feeling if I were 14 this would have me riveted for weeks. But as a an adult non RPG gamer, I'm struggling to get into this. I realize I may not be the target audience, but for others who were attracted by the Studio Gibli association, I think an outsider perspective may be useful to temper the hype surrounding this game.

i bought this guitar so my friends and i could play at the same time on either my ps2 guitar hero 2 or my new guitar hero worldtour for ps3. first of all, my friends always complain that its not good and they'd rather use my other guitar. second, for some reason it doesnt work on my ps3, why, i dont know, and that was the whole point i spent 50 bucks on it. I'd look for an alternative.

I bought this so I could play Rock Band on PS3 without having to deal with batteries. The guitar works exactly the same as the guitar that comes with rock band except for 4 things:

1) the effects switch seems to get set to a random effect every time you turn on the PS3 (if you move the switch to an effect and back to off you can reset it and then it works normally)

2) sometimes if you have two of these controllers plugged in at the same time one of them wont register as plugged in (if you unplug the guitar that isn't registering and plug it in again both guitars will work as normal)

3) the D-pad on the guitar doesn't work properly at all and i have no idea how to fix this (press right and the cursor goes up, down is down, but left and up dont work at all)

4)durring a solo you can't switch to the higher fret buttons and play all of it without strumming. I think this feature went unoticed in the creation of this guitar (I never used this ability any so it doesn't bother me any).

I originally bought a PS2 just to play guitar hero 1. And it was quite ground breaking. I then followed it up and bought GH2 and Rock the 80's. GH2 was a big improvement over the first, and 80's is the exact same engine as 2, just with different songs and graphic overlays.

Now, I was expecting quite a bit for GH3 but I don't think I was expecting anything over the top of what is possible. And here start all my issues with GH3:

1. Sony added bluetooth to the PS3 which was an amazing idea. There was NO need to add a wireless dongle. There is wireless built into the PS3 for a reason, USE IT! A wireless dongle for PS2 would be understandable. But common activision, there is NO excuse for the dongle.

2. The implementation of the GH3 controller with the PS3 is below standards. You CANNOT turn on the PS3 with the controller like you can the sixaxis.

3. People have been waiting for a guitar controller for the PS3 so they can play the old GH's on the system. Here is the controller everyone has been waiting for, but sorry... this controller doesn't work with anything but GH3. GH I, II, and rock the 80's still have no way to play on a PS3 even though sony added backwards compatability for legacy games.

4. Why couldn't they model the guitar after a sixaxis? They could have made the guitar run just like a sixaxis which in turn would create a seamless integration with the PS3 like it should be. The 5 colored buttons could stay the way they are right now, the two bottom triggers on the sixaxis are pressure sensitive and could have been used for the wammy bar. The built in motion sensor could be the 'star power' trigger, and there is still many more buttons left over. There is no need for such a poorly integrated controller.

5. The overall timing of the game feels 'off'. I've calibrated and still the game doesn't feel right.

6. In practice mode, your calibration doesn't work. So if you calibrate your TV with lets say 50ms, in practice mode it's always at 0ms no matter what. In the high ms (80+) you will not be able to hit one note properly. Go try it and see for yourself.

7. There are some great songs on here, but there is way more filler than the good stuff. I've already beat the game on expert, and I got excited for maybe 4 or 5 songs the entire way through. Mostly it was "lets get this over so I can move on" type songs.

8. The guitar runs on 2 AA batteries. Again, if this was modeled after the sixaxis like it should have been, it would have been a simple usb cord to charge the guitar. Yeah I know it's just 2 batteries, but I still feel the developers were lazy putting this package together.

There are positives, the removable neck is great, the guitar feels solid, removable face plate, updated graphics (720P), downloadable content in the future. But I still feel let down with this one. Let the flaming begin ;)

First off let me just say that this is a great game. I was a little concerned when it switched from Harmonix to Neversoft, but they have stayed true to what guitar hero is all about. Mechanics of the game is the same and the game play is very fun as usual.

This however is not for the faint hearted. The song list is great (mostly original artists and not cover bands like the last 2 games) but they are very fast paced and particulary "shredders" where you feel your arm is about to fall off. I play on hard and expert. You shouldn't have any problems and if you are new to guitar hero I recommend on starting out easy/medium due to the difficultly level being anti-upped in guitar hero 3. "One" in particular is the song title by Metallica which is a very hard song to beat and this would be for those who have played guitar hero before and want a significant challenge.

What's interesting is that they have added what's called "battle mode" which instead of star power, you get battle power. So when you activate your "battle power" (same as activating star power) you are able to distract your opponent but cutting a string, flipping his guitar to lefty, making him hit the whammy bar, upping the difficult (hard to expert) and doubling the notes. This is a very fun addition and adds to the party game experience while adding challenge too.

As far as the guitar it's self, I had no problem hooking it (bluetooth and the PS3 version using a dongle). Just hit the button on the dongle then the PS button on the controller. The strum bar does not click as much and it is slightly longer than the previous models making strumming easier. The buttons and neck seem sturdier and les paul design is classic with inter-changable face plates. The guitar is significantly heavier (but not heavy where it hurts the neck) so you don't feel like you're going to break it while rocking out to the songs. Online play is great and I haven't had any problems so far with lag time/delays. I would highly recommend this to has played guitar hero before and to people who want to start playing (just start out on medium trust me).

I was a little worried when I ordered this game based on some of the complaints I'd been reading. Having received it and spent several hours playing, I find that the complaints are basically valid but not as big a deal as some might have one believe. Here are my thoughts:

* The song list ranges from worthless to classic. They're trying to please too many different people and should probably consider releasing separate games in specific genres going forward. I love the classic rock and '80s metal tracks, but a lot of the others don't do anything for me. I'm sure that plenty of younger gamers have the opposite reaction. Also, the fact that a few of the songs can only be played in multiplayer mode is extremely annoying.

* The gameplay is indeed much harder than in previous games. Aside from the fact that Easy still uses only 3 fret buttons and Medium uses 4, each difficulty level is roughly equivalent to the next highest level in the earlier games.

* The fact that the controller isn't compatible with the earlier games still blows my mind. This is shocking and inexcusable! What were they thinking?

* The controller does have some issues -it occasionally misses notes and the star power sensor is way too sensitive. If, like me, you're mainly interested in just jamming along to fun tunes, it's not really a big deal. If your goal is to beat every song on Expert level, it might drive you crazy. I've found that playing while sitting down helps, but of course that's not as fun as rockin' around the room. (Note to those complaining about lack of Bluetooth -bear in mind that the bluetooth guitar will probably cost an extra $50. The RF works fine just hit the dongle button and then the P button on the controller. You might need to fiddle with it if it doesn't set the guitar up as controller #1 though.)

* If you have lag problems, try putting the TV into Game Mode (most newer HD sets have this). That cuts out most of the image processing in the TV and may solve the problem. I went through the GH calibration on my Toshiba DLP set and it reported 0 ms lag. I haven't had any lag problems at all.

* A couple of song download packs are now available, but they're on the expensive side for only 3 songs per pack.

That all said, it's still Guitar Hero and basically the same idea as the earlier games. The fun songs are still fun and it's still worth playing. It's just not at the level of quality that it could have been.

I picked up my copy of GHIII last night and played it a bit when I got home and this morning. If you're a fan of the other GH games, you'll love this one too.

First the positives: I love the boss battles. Lots of fun battling against slash and one of the devil's minions. The expert level boss battles are insane!

I liked the smaller guitar and fret buttons. Gameplay controls and response time is spot on. I tried to play the PS2 versions of GH II and 80s on the PS3 with the adapter, but I ended up taking it all back to the store because the controls were crap. Finally we get a GH game made just for the PS3!

Now the middle road: I'm sure I'll get some crap for this, but I'm not that happy with the song list. Yes, playing "Welcome to the Jungle" with Slash and playing Metallica's "One" is awsome, along with Slayer, etc. BUT, I miss the GH II tracks I played when I used to have the 360 (before I traded it after the ring of death and having to deal with Microsoft...what a mess). I REALLY hope the track list for GH, GHII and 80s will eventually be available for PS3, whether its by a campanion CD or download from PSNetwork. Afterall, the price of the PS3 version is the same as the 360 version and that console can play GH II at least and has a better online capability (for now at least).

What I didn't like: With all the advances the PS3 has made...how dare Activision and Red Octane release the game with a "wireless" guitar that required a gongle attached to a USB port. Are you serious?! You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with a way to make it just as wireless as the useless six axis remote? Come on! No Bluetooth? No USB recharge capability? Weak! Just another thing I have to keep buying batteries for.

Lastely, I know I mentioned this already, but I want to be able to play tracks from older versions on the PS3 the way they were meant to be played. They better make it happen!

A fun game, fans of the older versions will love it. Gamers who buy this version as their first will probably be a little dissapointed to not have some of the tracks they heard about in the previous games.

When it came to great music games, nothing this past year has really proven to shine like the Guitar Hero franchise. With the past few installments delivering well on the Playstation 2, many PS3 owners have been anxious for their debut on the great video game. Nevertheless, it hasn't all been smiles. With the spinoff Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80's, it really didn't click definitively with die hard Playstation 2 fans. But, the PS3 has that opportunity to make it its own into the well-dedicated franchise with the latest installment of the Guitar Hero franchise, and it will, it will definitely rock you!

Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock for the Playstation 3, brings the latest installment of Activision's great music game as it debuts for the PS3. The game brings out a lot when it comes to great rock music. The game includes a special wireless guitar for the PS3 which works well with the game. The graphics and sound really deliver well into the game. The latest installment also includes some new features into the game like boss battles, which fair well, but don't completely shine with just 3 bosses, unlike the rest of the game. The standard features are here like the previous installment with multiplayer action improved, as you can compete with others online, as well as co-op mode. The songlist also shines better here as well with Rock classics like Barracuda from Heart, One by metal gods Metallica, the traditional Rock N' Roll party anthem Rock N' Roll All Night by Kiss, and other interesting surprises here like the Beastie Boys Rap classic Sabatoge. The control works well with Playstation 3, as you strum your way with the specialty PS3 guitar, and the fun works quite well, as you bring out your inner rock god. There are also a few added features here, as you can unlock specialty venues and faceplates that you can customize your guitar with.

All in all, Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is a great buy for the Playstation 3 that really is worth the money, and a mostly well-delivered debut for Sony's latest console. I absolutely recommend this as one of the top music games of 2007, and the price is definitely right.

When DBZ Budokai 1 came out I immediately fell in love with the game. 2 years later, Budokai 3 came out and it exploded into a new intense era of DBZ games. I remember spending countless hours and hours playing Budokai 3 and after it's 10 year release of 2002 the series of DBZ Budokai is still amazing. The remastered collection brings out the most upbringing graphics of today's standards. The visuals make the game even more intense and fun as well. To be honest, I was never fond of the Tenkaichi series because it drifted away from the fighting style in which Budokai containted. Although both series have their own set of standards, I choose the Budokai series instead since there was so much action and criteria.

Budokai 1 contains 23 characters

Budokai 3 contains 38 characters including 8 fusions and reincarnations which total 46 characters.

Pros:

Remastered in HD

Supports trophies

Beautiful graphics

Intense action and fighting (especially Budokai 3)

Cons:

No online multiplayer

DBZ Budokai 2 is not included

Price should at least be $30

Other characters should have been imported from DBZ Infinite World such as Super Android 17, Baby Vegeta, Pan, etc.

Nevertheless if you are new to the DBZ Budokai series and like and/or love fast action packed fighting games, then this is the game you will definitely want to pick up and play. As for old comers, you will still enjoy the game it left out since 2002 :D

P.S

For new comers, I would play Budokai 1 first so you can see and learn the origin of how the Budokai series started and as you go into Budokai 3, be prepared to be spend countless hours of staying home and playing it :D

P.S.S

What 9000? :O!!!

First off I will say this game is the same as Budokai 1 and Budokai 3, except with better graphics, achievements/trophies, and new music.

People seemed to be concerned about the music, the fact that the origninal music from the Budokai games was replace with the new music from the Tenkaichi games is due to the fact the composer for the Budokai games had plagerized the soundtrack from another artist. Due to the that the music was changed.

Aside from that this game is an excellent buy, with the only knock on it being there is no online mode.

I wish they had the original soundtrack for the games and actually took the time to recreate the entire game in HD rather than take shortcuts, but it is great to be able to go and play one of my all time favorite games. The fight scenes in Budokai 3 are absolutely phenomenal in high definition. Even though so much got changed and taken out, these are still bad ass games.

This is a great game to play all over again. I remember why I liked it so much the first time it was released on the PS2. This is a great fighting game even after all these years. I know some people complained about the music being different, but I honestly didn't even notice because I was busy playing the game.

So, to start. If I see one more "Xbox 360 this and that compared to PS3" I'm going to throw up. I hope you feel the same. Folks, they are 2 different systems, both are great for their own reasons, no need to compare.

So for Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PS3. I've never played it on 360, never looked at it on 360, never really cared to. All I can say is, the game plays fantastic, it doesn't feel like some "ported" game. The graphics look great, I am yet to have any loss of framerate, everything is super fluid, controls are fantastic as well.

The controls feel extremely natural, all the buttons are in just the right spot, and overall the game plays extremely well, I was very impressed. You aren't trying to quickly switch between stick and d-pad/buttons to do certain things, for instance, instead of pressing down on the d-pad to kneel, you just press down on your left thumbstick that you almost always already have your thumb on. Everything plays this way.

The campaigns are interesting and fun, and the weapons seem quite accurate. The only thing I really dislike about the campaign is checkpoint saves, in fact, I DESPISE checkpoint saves, and the checkpoints often times are far apart. It forces you to play more carefully, but can be extremely frustrating at the same time. But it's not a make or break thing.

The squad controls are very well done as well, they are extremely easy to work with, in fact, you only use 3 buttons, one to call them closer/stop them, one to tell them to hold fire or fire at will, and the last button you use to tell them where to go, which works by just looking somewhere with your crosshairs and pressing the button.

The A.I. is phenominal, your squad clears rooms properly, takes cover, etc... I was blown away. The enemies seem to work together and take cover as well. This also has the option for cover fire much like Gears of War, really neat.

Online Multiplayer is a great addition, almost everyone uses a headset as well and the player base is quite mature and pleasant to play with. The maps are great and the play types are fun too. I honestly can't get enough online multiplayer, I'm on it all the time. And it's only been a couple days since release! There are a couple glitches like lag and what not with MP, but the game was just released, most of these issues get fixed right away.

In conclusion, this game is a must have. Ignore the 360 vs PS3 garbage. Everything plays fantastic, graphics are great, and the online (FREE on ps3) works really good too with lots of players already.

This is a solid game with excellent gameplay. The control scheme is intuitive and really immerses you in the realistic action. Graphically could be better, a little hazy for my taste, but it brings to mind the real life cigarette smoke filled Vegas casinos. I have never played the Xbox 360 version so can't compare. Overall this is a must have FPS for PS3 owners and a top 5 game on the platform. NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU MANUALLY SET YOUR PS3 TO 720P AND NOT 1080i (FOR SOME REASON 1080i MAKES EVERYTHING SUPER BLURRY).

Very bad if you mess up, there is only one save point. At the last level it appears there is a glitch where many game users are having a problem with reloading the level (Nevada Dam Warehouse)where you see Irena thru window then game crashes destroying the one and only save point. This has happened to several users. According to UBI support you must delete the one and only allowed saved game and reload/restart the game from the beginning again. I tried this twice, and it crashed twice! So I gave up! UBI programers need to learn how to allow multiple save points.

Overall the game has good picture quality. Content ok. But for PS3 there are no updates. So I advise buying it used and trying it.

In this review section, you are supposed to rate the quality of the game, not Amazon. So by all of you giving bad ratings to "Amazon", you are all making the game look bad...Please stop this!! Thanks!

The game is great and although there are a few minor tweaks to the PS3 version of this game, it is basically just the same as the Xbox 360 version.

If you haven't played this game and you own a PS3, this is a MUST-BUY!

Want Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas Discount?

The game is VERY enjoyable--and almost addicting. You are a Special Forces team leader and have, most of the time, two other Special Forces members at your disposal. You are put into various missions where you use your weapons and team members to take out the "bad guys." You have a large assortment of weapons--from several different types of sniper rifles to an assortment of assault rifles to a nice selection of pistols and various grenades and similar options--all complete with various scopes and related attachments. You'll spend the majority of the time hiding behind cover, getting some shots off and telling your teams members what to do--and these Special Forces members are quite good. You'll do a fair about of rappelling through windows, using your team members to open doors and clear rooms and, somehow, you'll be able to withstand an inhuman amount of bullets. Overall, it's a very enjoyable game--even if the AI is only fair.

However, the saddest and most annoying part of this game for me is that the 1080i feature doesn't actually work properly and makes the game uselessly blurry--to the point where Ubisoft should be sued for false advertising. In a world where 720p games are "the norm," advertising 1080i when it doesn't exist or work is just plain lying. The workaround for this problem is to reconfigure/force your PS3 to output video at 720p--and while this addresses the problem by not giving you 1080i, every time I want to watch a Blu-ray movie I have to switch it back to 1080p and then back to 720p to play the game and so on until this gets exceedingly annoying. This bug alone is almost a deal breaker for me and had I known about this before my purchase, I might not have made the purchase.

Didnt expect this game to be so fun. Ill go through some pros and cons of the game.

Pros:

Very Nice Graphics, much better than the Saints Row game series.

Great Storyline.

Open world envirnment.

Hours of fun, dosent get old fast because of the endless side missions.

AIRJACKING, this is the #1 pro for this game, it is and awesome feature that should be in all open world games.

Controls are very smooth and easy... no interface problems works great.

Cons

Cant kill people on the streets, cant kill cops. If you shoot a cop he will spin around and start shooting at you again. You can blow up their cars but they'll just stand up like that didnt hurt them. You can only kill gang members and you can only find gang members during a mission. If you shoot a person on the street you will instantly get 3-4 stars and the person wont even be affected by it. Gunplay is not the games strongpoint.

To familiar, it features a star system just like gta determined by what youve done you will get a certain amount of stars then you will get cops after you who you cant kill. If you get more than 3 stars its impossible to get away from the cops.

The Game does have great graphics but vin diseal looks like a patato he was not rendered good.

overall it gets a 4 out of 5 stars because gta and saints row are funner.

I am an avid gamer. I watched/read some reviews on Wheelman and found out it was supposed to be Ok. I held off purchasing until I downloaded a demo from PSN, and I loved it! I played it through 3 times. The graphics are great and the gameplay style is well put together. Personally, I find the voice acting amazing and even though the story is confusing it is definitely intriguing. The gameplay style is open world and GTA like but don't take that the wrong way, this game is nothing like GTA (violence, etc.). I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who wants a unique gaming experience.

I don't understand the other reviews.. This game is a pretty fun one.. I really had a good time playing this.. Graphs and story are not perfect, but ok.. You will find lots of missings if you compare with GTA IV (like not so many cars, not too long playability, not so realistic etc), but this comparison is unnecessary. I believe the game makers could have made the game more realistic like GTA, but they decided to choose to be more on the fun side and less on the reality.. Overall, all games are intended for fun...

Both my sons have been talking about this game for awhile. My younger son got a playstation 3 and this game for chistmas and both my sons have played it quit a bit. Would reccomend.

Want Wheelman Discount?

Wheelman is far from perfect but it can still be a lot of fun. It's almost like Driver meets Hulk. You go around in Barcelona doing missions, racing, destroying the city, and this is surprisingly fun because of the ability to smash into things using the right joystick. But no, you don't just hit the cars and they crash into a wall, there is a ridiculous barrel roll followed by an over the top explosion! This is what makes Wheelman stand out a bit more. There are also on foot missions that are mediocre but not unplayable. The good news is that there really aren't very many of these missions.

The graphics vary from good to bad. The city itself looks quite good but the people look terrible. I almost thought I was playing a Playstation 2 game at times.

At the end of the day I would say this game is worth it if you're a fan of arcade style racing, over the top explosions, and you can get it for the right price. $20 is worth it.

I got this back when Streetfighter 4 first came out, and the Madcatz controllers were hard to find. When I started using it, I was surprised at how difficult it was to execute moves, especially circle moves like fireballs/dragon punches. This being my first stick since the Sega Genesis days, I chalked it up to inexperience with fight sticks in general. However, after a week I still had trouble pulling off basic moves. At the time I simply figured I was too used to the normal controller, and that was that. I put the stick up for consigment and decided to stick to the ol' D-pad.

Recently I decided to give sticks another chance, but this time I elected to drop the extra cash and get one of the Tournament Edition sticks. It wasn't until I started using the TE stick that I realized what a poor product the "Dominator" was. The dominator's plastic feels light, cheap, and transparent (perhaps by design, allowing the LED lights to be more visable). The stick is hard to move, you need to pull rather hard in any direction to get it to register. The same can be said about the buttons, which need to be pounded. Another complaint is the sharp edges, which make putting this in your lap uncomfortable. When you compare all of this to a Madcatz stick, which has a very reactive stick, buttons that are TOO sensitive if anything, a piano black finish, a heavy weight, and angled edges for for comfortable lap use, you really see where the extra cash goes.

The only pros are the LED lights and chrome buttons, which are purely cosmetic. But even on a superficial level, the dominator looks and feels like a toy.

A word on the memory feature...

I had no intention on using this feature when I purchased the stick, so I didn't bother with it. However before I took it in I decided to test it. The first thing I'll say is the button to activate what you program is small and poorly located above the stick. I can't imagine fumbling to find and use it in an actual game.

Anyone worried someone will use this online and program El Fuerte's infinate combo can rest easy, because IT CAN NOT HANDLE ADANCED STREETFIGHTER COMBOS. Streetfighter "block string" combos ( i.e. crouch LP, crouch LP, crouch MK-Hadoken) reqire imputs as fast as 1 to 4 frames, in other words 1/60 to 4/60 of a SECOND. This device simply isn't sophisticated enough to handle that level of precision. I suppose it might work on 10 hit Tekken combos, but again, the placing of the activation button will be an issue if you want to cheat.

First let me say that I've never been compelled to write a review before, but I'm so thoroughly disgusted by this product that I just had to.

Save your money and get a different joystick. The original d-pad had a much better response for sf2 hd remix and marvel vs capcom 2. The buttons stick, and often times had to be pressed on with force for them to work. At other times, when my fingers weren't placed directly on the center of the button, it wouldn't depress fully, and therefore didn't register. I could barely pull off a fireball, let alone a dragon punch. The build quality seems, well...pretty cheap. For a controller this size, you'd expect some heft to it, but it's disturbingly light. I didn't mess around with the move program options or the turbo buttons, so I can't really comment on those aspects.

I consider myself a fighting game veteran, and this is just unacceptable. I didn't want to spend bucks for a joystick, so I settled for this one based on the first two reviews, but if you purchase this product, you're just throwing you're money away.

Read Best Reviews of XCM Dominator Joystick for PS3 Here

I begin by saying that I am not a devoted fighting games enthusiast, but I enjoy SF2, SSF2T:HD and SF4 the most out of all the fighting games I have ever played. I used to own all of the SF2s on the Super Famicom/SNES and had a Capcom Fighting Stick.

I bought this on around the 21st of Feb at a local retailer in Hong Kong (1/F of 188 Oriental Shopping Centre in Wan Chai) for HK$498. I understand that play-asia.com has them in stock too. The stick is primarily intended for use with SF4. I haven't watched the video review above, and have only used it for around 2 hours total. Before that I had used the DS3 for around an hour, hence why I went shopping for a stick. I haven't tried it with any other fighting games.

The Dominator was for me the cheapest and most easily available alternative to the really rather expensive Hori sticks which I could find locally. The Horis were going in the shops for around HK$1300 and even play-asia.com's cheapest Hori was just below HK$1000. So for the price of that I could have (though I didn't) bought 2 of these and gotten my mates over to play! Plus I have already spent a lot of money and space on other gaming kit, such as 2 Rock Band guitars, the drums, and a Logitech G25 mounted on a Playseat full racing seat setup...

The stick itself really does resemble that in the picture. The blue LEDs are slightly less tacky-looking in real life than they are in the picture, particularly as the translucent plastic used in the base, while acceptable, will not go particularly well with your Ligne Rosset lounge chairs. The button action is acceptable, although I find that MP is a bit firmer than the rest for some reason. They are all coated with somewhat cheap-looking chrome paint.

The stick (the ball of which is also coated with the slightly cheap-looking chrome paint) is far better than the D-pad on the DS3. Ther eis an acceptable 8-way clicky action to it. Fireball-style moves can still be a bit hard to pull off, but this probably has to do with the angle with which I am using the stick (can't put it on the table) plus the fact that I haven't used an arcade stick for SF-style games for well-over a year. It's superb for dragon punches and charging moves. I haven't played much with Zangief so I decline to attempt to grade my spinning piledriver attempts. It does make using E.Honda a real pleasure though.

I should point out that I am having trouble executing the Ken kata-throw (as mentioned in a 1up guide MK followed quickly by throw) as well as effectively cancelling into focus moves, but I think that is also probably more a matter of timing than anything else.

I have not tried out the macro function as I would rather develope l337 sk1llz or die trying. ;)

Overall, as you may be able to tell from what I have said above, the build quality of the stick is acceptable, given the price. Furthermore, and more importantly, it is inherently usable as a fighting stick. I intend to try it with Soldner-X and 1942 Joint Strike when I have some free time, but I see no reason why it would be any worse for those if it can put up with SF4.

The only reason I have rated this stick 4 stars instead of 5 is that it's a bit cheap-looking and is obviously not made out of super-high-end components. However, in this case, and particularly given the cost of the Hori sticks, it's just a matter of getting what you pay for. Plus it's not like one is going to be able to use this stick for 10 years or more anyway (as my still-working Capcom Fighting Stick with its outdated SNES/Super Famicom connector will tell you). Highly recommended for cash-strapped fighting enthusiasts.

This was the first game i beat on my ps3 and the first metal gear game i beat(except for metal gear acid!, which is non-canon and a card game). After beating this game i became a huge metal gear fan, and instantly dusted off my ps2 and beat metal gear solid 2, metal gear solid 3, the original metal gear solid on ps1 and metal gear solid portable ops on the psp. This game was so good i wanted to go back and play all the mgs games i had not played. Ive heard some people say if your not a metal gear fan steer clear of this game i disagree though. metal gear solid 4, was the first metal gear game i beat and the story made sense, the game play was so good i couldn't put the controller down. After i beat metal gear 1,2,3, and PO, I went back and beat mgs 4 again and picked up on a lot of mgs inside jokes i completely missed on my first play thru. So my advice is get this game. Prior metal gear storyline knowledge is not a must, but does enhance the game. This game is so good it stands on its own as a great game and more then likely will make you a metal gear addict and make you want to play the older versions to fill in all the gaps.

I'm writing this review for all of those out there who see the high ratings/reviews (and even the crappy reviews) and still wonder if this is the game for them. For some of you it will be, and for some others it won't be.

Let me begin by saying, if you don't like stealth-action games, then you won't like this game. Pick your genre well when playing games, and you'll be set. However, if you like being stealthy, shooting enemies from a hidden vantage point, and the like, then you get plenty of that with this game. You can (and sometimes have to) change your stealth tactics depending on your environment: middle eastern battle fields, jungle environments, sneaking through the rainy streets of western Europe... all those and others can be approached in various ways.

On that note, the sheer number of choices you get in the game really make for a robust and dynamic game play feeling. You can choose from a multitude of weapons and distances to attack from. You can even choose to go hand to hand if you like. You could go all Rambo on them and blast everything in sight until you can escape or you can go through the entire game without killing a soul, if you really want a challenge.

The amount of varied game play is also worth taking note of. This is going from one style (first/third person shooter from Snake running/sneaking around) to a completely different style (the obligatory off the back of a vehicle chase style of MGS) to others that are even different still. I won't purposefully ruin anything, but the final two types are pretty epic and wonderfully appropriate for the final type.

There are a lot of complaints that the game has too many cut scenes and a complicated story that is too hard to follow. This game is meant to wrap the entire MGS series up to an ultimate ending. That will require a decent amount of story presented in a series of movie style cut scenes (and near movie quality by the way). However, I can assure you that there is plenty of game play in the game to balance out the cut scenes (the quickest you can beat the game is apparently somewhere around five hours, though I haven't gotten under six... and that's almost just running through the game and skipping every single cut scene including the very long last one).

Lastly, the replay factor is pretty high as one can use entertaining ammo (won't ruin anything here), the usual stealth cammo for near perfect invisibility, special weapons, and a bunch of unlockables based on the ratings/achievements you receive at the end of the game. All that while being able to collect more DP (money) to buy tons of stuff from the weapons dealer.

This game caters to those who are more casual stealth gamers to even difficult enough to challenge the most hard core stealth gamers out there (some ratings require insane marks to be met such as never being spotted, not killing anyone including bosses, not using a single continue, not using a single health regen item, and all that while completing the game in a really short period of time... like 5 hours). That all leads back to the number of choices the player has in the game. Your choices dictate how hard the game is for you (even beyond the choice of easy, normal, and hard when the game is started).

Let me say again, if you don't like MGS, stealth games, or robust/complex game play and story, then avoid this game as it was meant for people who do like some or all of those things. If you do like some or all of those things, then, chances are, you'll love this game for what it has to offer.

All that and I didn't even talk about how awesome the graphics are or how varied the boss tactics are... just know that the game deserves the ratings and good reviews it got based on the type of game it is.

Outside of Uncharted 2, I dont really know of any other PS3 game that comes close to how good Metal Gear Solid 4 is.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a story about an rapidly aging artifically created soldier by the name of Solid Snake, who is seeking to thwart the evil plans of a man by the name of Liquid Ocelot. Solid Snake goes through about 4 or 5 acts in the game, each scenery or locale drastically different from the previous one. Here are the pros:

1. You have control over what type of game you want: action or stealth. This game gives you a wide assortment of weapons, and you could easily go through it blasting away(of course, it depends on what difficulty level you have selected...you dont last long with this technique in "Big Boss" mode). You could also go through the game without a bad guy ever seeing you. What I love is that there are still are scene that require you to use weapons. For someone who wants to use stealth for the whole game with the exception of these mandatory shoot em up scenes, its sheer brilliance.

2. the visuals are spectacular, especially in 1080p. The visual transition quality from cut scenes to live game play are almost seamless.

3. Voice acting is above par, to the point where some characters are actually pretty annoying. (Snakes assortment of grunts, and Octacon being annoying as f***)

4. Not every act requires the same actions or goals. The game plays out like a movie, with different creative objectives in each chapter.

Cons:

1. I would say that the game feels short for being so epic.

2. Too many cutscenes. Sometimes it feels like half the game is just cutscene after cutscene, but thats inherent in any metal gear game.

This is a must have for any ps3 owner.

Title pretty much sums up my feelings.

MGS4 is and probably always will be the best stealth action game of all time. There is simply no half way here. Kojima has finally perfected his 3D world that he started with Metal Gear Solid. Every area has more thought put into it than most full-length games for sale out now. The story wraps up the franchise in a unique and thought-provoking manner.

Oh? You have a problem with complex, moving stories that encompass the faults and triumphs of human behavior?

I pity the fool that would bash this game for its cut scenes.

There is only one con of this game: after you play it, you'll look at your other games and just sit there wishing they were as cool.

I held off on getting this game because I saw all of the reviews that suggested this was a very middle of the road game. And for sixty bucks, it is very middle of the road, maybe even terrible.

But for THIRTY bucks now....

Storyline fair to slightly above average. You go through different islands and clear different areas based on what you learn along the way. You collect gold to get upgrades on everything from maps to weapons. I'm a fan of the viking period in history, so I found myself more interested in the story than I probably should have been. It does get rather repetitive. It does get rather repetitive.

Difficulty game is easy to learn and to play. Maybe too easy. You run around and use combo's to slay enemies. And I do mean slay them.

Graphics not too bad. Kills are VERY gory. Probably the only reason for the "M" rating is the quantity of blood and limbs that are thrown around with finishing moves. The AI is not very good, if you run out of eyesight of enemies, they forget you exist most of the time. I didn't care very much for the cutscenes between major battles.

Overall I'm glad I bought and played it. I'm probably not going to finish the game, and I've put about 12 to 15 hours into it, but am very rapidly losing interest. At thirty bucks I feel like I got my money's worth.

Hope you found my review helpful!

As I understand it, Viking: Battle for Asgard was something of a dud when it was first released. I first picked up a used copy at Gamestop for 15 bucks... and proceeded to play it so many times that it developed stress fractures around the center of the disc from me taking it in and out of the case so many times.

I picked up a second copy for $9. I can't say how many times I've played it, but it has become just about my favorite out of all the games I have ever played. I understand it is not for everyone, as one reviewer said there is a lot of just running around, but for me it is ideal, because it captures exactly what I want in a video game experience.

Unlike say, The Force Unleashed, this game is not a nonstop barrage of mindless action. If you want action, you can always venture out and chop some Legion to pieces. But if you want to search for treasure to upgrade your weapons, or set free some Viking prisoners, or just explore a beautifully realized world, you can do that too. Although the graphics look primitive now, (i.e. the characters' lips don't move when they talk) the landscapes and views still hold up well.

If I get off of a stressful day at work, I can turn on my PS3 and escape in the Viking world. If I want to smash some heads and work out my frustration, I can seek out some Legion and chop them to pieces. If I want to relax and explore a beautiful landscape, I can do that too. The story is engaging, and has some amazing, epic battles involving armies of thousands, and you are right there fighting in the middle of it. I didn't find the battles too difficult. To me they were challenging, but not impossible.

Since it wasn't a fantastic success, I guess there will never be a sequel, which is a shame to me. I would love to see the game taken to a new level.

I don't like most RPG, but this one is very good.

PROS:

1. Good medieval graphics

2. Many strategic solutions

3. Good learning system.

4. Incredible graphics with armies.

CONS:

5. Too slow in running.

Good game if you like the ones with blades, axes, shields, mistery and medieval magic.

Wow! I really thought this game would have been a lot more fun. I couldn't wait to get down to some serious hack-n-slash action. I didn't know my character was going to have to run a marathon to do it though. Seriously...running all over that map is very boring. I know they have their goofy leystones, but you still end up jogging all over the joint. Plus...when you do get somewhere close to some action, it's either pointlessly boring or impossibly difficult.

GOOD: The gore factor is turned up to ten on this one. LOVE the finishing sequences! The game is sufficiently brutal...loved repeatedly stabbing that Legion Champion in the face over and over.

BAD: Unfortunately, the brutality of some of the sequences doesn't make up for all of the boring in-between stuff. The ending of the fight with the Legion Champion was probably so gratifying because it was so frustratingly boring getting to that point. Fighting on inclines or declines is ridiculous. You end up missing your enemy half of the time. The multiple enemy combat is pointlesss. Get surrounded by 5 enemies...you die almost all of the time. I thought this guy was supposed to be the Ultimate Viking Warrior!!!

In the end...I was expecting a Viking version of God of War...instead, I got a slow, boring version of Dynasty Warriors without the ability to actually lay waste to multiple foes during a battle. The developers don't seem to know if they wanted to make this game tactical or arcade style. They got themselves stuck in between with some end product that just isn't fun at all. I could go on and on about how many of this games interactive aspects are so unbelievably flawed...but I really don't feel like wasting any more of my time on this one.

Okay folks this is yet another boring, middle-of-the-road Playstation 3 game. Amazon has given us a game description, I'll offer my thoughts on them.

[High-impact, brutal combat. Dismember enemies and experience high-impact melee combat unlike any game you've played.]

(My reply) Well, the combat is brutal, I will give you that. Dismemberments, decapitations, they are here, and they are plentiful. However, this combat style isn't unique, I've played several games like this. You'll use two buttons most of the time: One button for strong (but slow) attacks, and another button for weak (but fast) attacks. Been there, done that, bought the CD. Some of the fights with mini-bosses requires a "key in the correct sequence" of buttons to finish an enemy. Sorry, this was already done in God of War and God of War 2.

[Mythical powers. Tame dragons and command them to rain fire upon your enemies. Power up your weapons with elemental abilities and lay waste to your adversaries.]

(my reply) While raining fire on enemies with dragons is very cool, it does get old after a bit. The elemental power-ups for the weapons give us an edge in combat, but we've already seen this before. Freezing enemies and shattering them? That's old school, Mortal Kombat stuff. Catching enemies on fire? That's PSI-OPS Mindgate Conspiracy battle tactics. Using lightning to take out our enemies? Again, Mortal Kombat. With the upgrades, Viking is a little more interesting than the average hack 'n' slash game. However, the fighting engine has a collision error: it only works on level ground. If the distance between the character and his enemies is altered because of a hill/mountain, all those well-placed combos can miss, opening the player up for a crushing counterattack.

[Three open-world environments. Explore, uncover and fight your way across huge Norse worlds full of combat and exploration.]

(my reply) Yes, there are 3 worlds to explore, but the exploration isn't as open as you'd think. You move through one world at a time, and it isn't like Grand Theft Auto III or Oblivion, where you have tons of side quests to keep you entertained: Viking is a very linear game. Typical quests are freeing Vikings to join your cause by beating the snot out of enemy forces, finding artifacts, or opening enemy gates. I was surprised a court jester didn't pop out from behind a tree saying I could harness the power of the atom by bringing him the keys to the Wizard's sock drawer. Some of the quests are that lame.

[Climactic, epic battles. Lay the foundations for huge battles featuring hundreds of warriors at once. Subtly influence the battle through targeted assassination and sabotage, or wade in to save stricken allies.]

(my reply) Okay, this is where the game let me down big time. I was expecting to see battles akin to Braveheart, but instead I get a Dynasty Warriors rip-off type battle which is only possible after I complete a laundry list of quests first (gather more Vikings, open bridges, relinquish the keys to the Wizard's sock drawer, you get the point). The 'saving stricken allies' means you go up to a group of three guys tied to a tree and untie a rope to free them. That's it.

On the plus side, the in-game cutscenes between chapters are a huge plus they are reminicent of a Frank Miller comic, and it's sad there aren't more of them.

Viking is not a terrible game, but it's also nothing extraordinary. It has incorporated Mortal Kombat and Psi-Ops fighting elements, Tenchu's stealth tactics, Dynasty Warriors' battle mode and God of War's mini-games and chest opening sequences. On the whole, this Frankenstein combination doesn't deliver a lasting, engrossing game for me. I can't honestly see a reason for someone to own this game; especially since you'll probably never play it again after completing it. This game can be finished in about a week, hardly worth its high price tag.

I was a little skeptical this game would live up to the hype. Then some diminished reviews came around and I was already feeling a let down. Where could they go wrong? Was my thoughts. Well that didn't stop me from purchasing this game. After 30 minutes I was blown away. All skepticism was gone and I was in Gamer Heaven.

Let me start off from the beginning. Yes there is a plot twist and it's pretty bizarre. Just think that your watching a Michael Crichton movie and it will make sense. Playing in the Middle East several hundred years ago is a different idea. It's hard to say what you could expect with this concept.

So what makes this game amazing. Lets start off with the landscape. It's brilliant and beautiful...Really majestic. You don't understand the scope of this game until you start playing. The world is surrounded by several small villages and three large cities. The only way to travese this open terrain with a horse. Fortunately they are about as easy to find as a car in todays society.

What also sets this game apart is the ability to do what you want when you want. There is no clock on you and your not stuck going into a mission. Everything is open based. The character is amazingly fun to control you can scale tall buildings and make amazing leaps of faith. Climbing up a building that is several stories and then leaping to certain doom is breathtaking excitement. This is what games should be about.

Beyond that is a mission based game. Similiar to Grand Theft Auto in style. You can accept simple missions like pickpocketing and protecting citizens to the more main based assasin missions. You can battle soldiers if you want as you have many enemies but it's not really advised. Following the assasin missions can be complex and involve several steps that make the story very intresting. Obviously a lot of time was put into making this top notch.

For anyone who likes open based games with large environments then Assassins Creed is for you. From the majestic peaks to the clustered cities. This is trully a next gen experience. The storyline and incentive program will keep you playing for many hours. Definately a worthwhile gameplay experience. If you want something to keep you busy that doesn't involve guns go out and get Assasins Creed.

Assassin's Creed

Ubi Soft has become known to me as a company that puts out products they promise. When they state the game will display certain features, they deliver in spades. Assassins Creed is no different from this rule. They promised a new distinct control system, done. They promised a diverse and exciting way to explore the open environments they created, done and done. They said this game would make you feel like an assassin with iron in his veins and skill in his actions, well they didnt promise that, but its their too.

This game is a marvel to be seen, with your own eyes, while you control every move on the screen. And I mean every, the controls let you do more than just button mash. You are the assassin. If you own a next gen system, you should own this game. The grace and precision that the lead character, Altair, uses to climb and leap his way through the large cities presented here is in one word, amazing.

Never have I seen anything like this in my years as a gamer. I couldnt stop exploring and killing, because every minute spent, feels new and fresh. I simply adored this game since it was announced and I love it more that I have played it. Dont get me wrong though, the game has a few flaws, but the creators put so much in it, that they are easily either excusable or passed over because you are to busy to catch them cause you are having so much damn fun with what is awesome about it.

I am a huge fan of UBISOFT and their gem of a franchise titled Assassin's Creed is no exception. I have owned/played this game on all three platforms namely Playstation 3, Xbox360, and PC. In my Opinion the PS3 version is by far the best and that is if you have configured your console correctly to your HD television.

Altair is an awesome main character to play as it really contributes to bringing the Holy Land to life and immersing you in a epic tale like no other ever told before through a video game. The Limited Edition is the way to go with an extra blueray disk with all kind's of special features taking you behind the scenes and dragging you more into the life of an assassin. The only complaint i had was UBISOFT could of included a bigger and not so cheaply made figurine. With this aside the game is so good that i can look past this minor flaw and appreciate the graphic art and story put behind altair and the world around him. A must have game on any console!!!

I'm sure some will decry my statement about this game, but I was disappointed with this game as a whole. Yes, the visuals are stunning and intricately detailed. Yes, it does have some innovative control schemes. It is also very fun to be able to climb any building around. So what do I NOT like about this game???? Well...first of all, after completing 3 assassinations, I found myself doing the same things over and over and over: Come into new town and find several high spots to scout out the surroundings, rescue citizens from harassing soldiers, pickpocket things from certain people in town, eavesdrop on conversations to get information. Everything about this game looks great when you first get into it, but after you get a good ways into the game, it seems you are living in "Groundhog Day". I was really looking forward to the release of this game, so I really don't like giving it a 3. However, after playing through a few levels, I have lost interest in even completing the game. I hate to say it, but this game was a HUGE letdown for me. I would suggest renting it and playing through a couple of towns before buying.

Want Assassin's Creed Limited Edition Discount?

Other reviewers have noted that the game feels really repetitive and that they lost interest in completing the game. I agree (I have competed the game so that I could write this review), but want to emphasize that the negative "feel." I feel very disconnected from the character. This results from

(1) his movement ... sometimes he feels heavy and slow, it's frustrating to move him. The free run parts are exciting but they are not that interactive;

(2) the miniquests ... these are redundant, and resort to "timed challenges" to add difficulty which IMO is a bit of a cop-out. The deeper problem is that the mini-quests aren't longer run character choices they're just random events that don't really involve the mission you're doing except you for a few random lines of dialog.

(3) the action/stealth ratio ... I realize bought a game called "assassins creed" I thought the point of the game would be stealth kills and daring escapes. As it turns out, a lot of the kills are not stealth, but after big battles. There's no "economy of violence" principle forcing you to limit your killing (like thief and Splinter Cell had), there's no penalty to you at all for killing, in fact the game guides you to enter into big high-publicity fights. This part of the game just doesn't tick the way it should.

(4) no real risks ... my character has a lot of health. I can battle thirty people and be OK, or jump from a big ledge and lose most of my health only to recover it in a few seconds.

(5) Annoyances ... there is a lot of recurring sound bits. These take me out of the game.

The assassination missions are OK. They do get progressively harder, but more through battle elements than through stealth elements.

The game is a pretty decent fight and explore game, and the cities are pretty and the free-running is fun, but the game design has some major flaws.

I recommend you rent this before you buy it to see how you like it. If you're really interested, I think you'll see a lot of used copies available soon (not all of them played to completion).
