i'm a pc gamer. hardcore. mouse and keyboard since the quake 3 arena days. i have never been able to compete on the consoles because i can't get my thumbs to make a controller do what i want. while all of my friends play on consoles.

for people like me the Shark is a godsend.

i own the original wired fragfx, a fragenstein, and a scorch. the shark performs well above all of these.

the mouse movement on the shark is perfect. playing mw2 with the in game sensitivity at 9 and the shark set around 2.

my only problem with it is the size. the mouse is just too big. i need to hold my hand a certain way just to reach all of the buttons..kind of annoying. and we can really do without the rapid fire and macros.

when i wear this one out i'll definitely buy another.

I play games in bed with my TV at the foot. It gets uncomfortable after awhile with my arms holding a dualshock 3 over my stomach. This controller allows them to rest on either side of me. You can also set this controller to the same input as your dualshock Eg. 1. That way you can have a dualshock in your right hand and the fragchuck in your left. I love the "fragchuck". It fits well in hand and everything for the left hand is there, plus motion sensitivity, macros, rapid fire, and more! Could pack 2-3 more buttons in, though.

The mouse feels good, the buttons take a little getting used to, but are intuitive and easy to adapt to. The mous pad is good too. However, it's a little too big for me and I have good sized hands 7 inches from my middle finger to the bottom of my palm. Because of the shape, It actually fits better in my left hand than my right, of course then the buttons are imposable to use. I could have gotton used to the size but didn't want to since it wasen't very compatable with some of my games (See details section below).

There is a lot of disinformation surrounding this product. There are a lot of positive reviews from people playing Calld of Duty (Newer ones) and a lot of bad reviews calling it a "rip off". Aparently compatbility is hit or miss since PS3 was not made for a mouse and the fragfx shark has to emulate a thumb stick. To be fair to Splitfish they made a niche product, great for some of todays most popular games, but it's game manufacturers that are not making their titles compatible with Splitfish controllers. But then, why should they? It is a 3rd party controller. Also, why would Sony make the PS3 compatable with mice when most console gamers like the dualshock 3? I should add that some users don't like to use mice and the only refuge they have from the advantage a mouse gives users is on a console.

THE BOTTOM LINE: DOES IT WORK, AND IS IT WORTH $89?

Yes and no to both points! It works with some games and not with others. It may be worth it if your game is supported, you get past the learning curve, and you really want to take your "hard core" gameing up a level, or if you seriously want to get into PC gaming without the keboard. Otherwise, it's not for you and you will end up unsatisfied. I suggest you keep everything, and thouroughly test out all your games as soon as you get it, then you can get a refund if it does not meet your expectations.

DETAILS:

There was no combination of ingame look sensitivity and "dead zone" sensitivity that removed diagonal "staircasing" without making tracking too slow for most of the games I've tested. I saw reviews that mentioned the same thing before I purchased. I decided to give it a try anyway. To their defence, I tried evey combination of dead zone to ingame look sensitivity in the games below with limited success.

Homefront (Demo):

Staircased at dead zones of 0-5 and required too much mouse tracking with 6-9. 6.5 was almost workable except it required me to repeatedly pick up the mouse and reset it to look around. Was less efiecient than the dualshock.

Call of Duty: Classic

Same as aboave, but worse.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (Demo)

Works really well but seems to move up/Down slower than lept/right. No staircasing/jittering with ingame sensitvity at max (Insane) and deadzone = 3. Workable but will take some getting used to. Recommended for this game but it's not perfect.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Demo)

Same as black ops aboave. Abviously, these are the game it was intended for.

Killzone 2 (Demo):

I was able to resolve staircasing and jittering. Requires maximum ingame sensitivity and a deadzone of 4. Too slow of movement, mouse has to be picked up and drageed all over in this one. Not recomended.

Killzone 3 (Demo):

Better than above but not as good as COD:MW2 or black ops. It is still too slow. too much mouse tracking.

Battlefield 1943:

No staircasing. I needed a dead zone of about 3 to get rid of the jittery/jumping when trying to "pixle point" at an object. Although better, I found tracking was still too slow/difficult to play with. Would take some getting used to. It makes driving vehicals or flying extreemly difficult, if not imposable.

Infamous:

Works well enough to play. Better feel than the dualshock but jittery/staircasing not completly gone.

PC USERS:

When set as a mouse it is fine, sweet to have four extra buttons! Not as good as my logetech MX 5000 laser mouse but it tracks as well as an optical (A cheap one). Also, since I was a console gamer before PC, I tried this on a game I have always dreamed of having a "fragchuck" for...The Descent series. Although windows 7 x64 recognizes it as a gamepad and all of the buttons/analog stick work, it would not recognize the anolog or mouse movement in Descent 1. In Descent 2 this problem is fixed but the mouse has dead zone issues, and when that is ajusted it's too slow, requires too much movement, and is'nt as accurate as my MX5000 laser (Not even close). So, it was esentially useless. Too bad! Fine, I can just use the MX5000 instead by choosing the mouse and joystick option. Worked perfect, very addicting. I set drop bombs to the motion sensative melee and afterburners to the joystick button (L3)! That is sweet and there are 10 buttons on the fragchuck, if you count L3 and the D-Pad, to assign functions to. They could have packed 2-3 more buttons in though. I also, tested a few other FPS games (Older School) that did not work to my satisfaction. Bottom line: if your game supports joystick and mouse operation in tandom (and gives you complete control over button reassignments) then it "might" work like you want it to, otherwise it's a crap shoot. Don't know about newer games like far cry, fallout, and etc.

Note:

I really wanted it to work for me and to give it a fair review. I even pulled it back out of the return box to test it agian on a few titles I forgot about, just to make sure I wanted to return it. No go. Given the range of experiance I got out of it and the problems I was able to almost resolve, I would say my unit was not defective. It just almost works. Maybe it will work better for the games you want it for. Good Luck.

PS:

that guy on youtube (zDD) is displayed prominantly on the packaging and endorsed by Splitfish. Not to say his videos are fake, but his incentive is to paint the product in a positive light. Therefore he's not going to post a video showing what games it doesn't work in! A one sided story is at best a half-truth. So, don't be supprised if your experiance is different form his.

After several hours of researching the Frag FX Shark, AIMON PS, EagleEye, and XIM3, I finally settled on purchasing the Frag FX Shark controller. Here's the lowdown:

The Frag FX Shark does work as promised, depending on the game being played (based on what I've read). I have only tried it on COD MW3. The best thing about the Frag FX specifically is the sensitivity dial on the controller. This makes it as plug and play as can be with this type of setup. No need to download game specific firmware or any other garbage. The controller is fully customizable as well (remap buttons, macros, blah blah). Basically, you plug in the wireless stick into a USB slot, turn on the mouse and controller, and presto -it works. It is recommended to set in game sensitivity to max and then adjust using the dial on the controller. I've found slightly past 2 to work best for me.

Yes, there is some staircasing with the Frag FX. It won't affect gameplay much for the average gamer and it might even get sorted out with a firmware update later on.

The wireless works well and I had 0 problems with interference. I have a wifi TV, 2 routers, cellphone, cordless house phone, iPad, and the ps3 all in the same area. Did not have any problems at all.

My biggest issue with the product is the ridiculous size of the mouse. I can get over the cheap feel of the plastic, but the size of the mouse is as if it was designed for Captain Banana-hands. This isn't enough to make me return the product.. it is, however, the MAIN reason I knocked the Shark down to 4 stars. The only other issue is more of an annoyance than anything else... even when the controller and mouse are turned off, if the USB stick is plugged in, the ps3 will assign it to controller 1-4. This is annoying in 2-player games if you want to use the dual shock controller and play by yourself as the game will ask player 2 to hit X to join (or automatically add player 2 into the game).

If you are a typical gamer, this is a great product at a great price. It's not as great as a PC mouse in terms of accuracy or quality, but it does do the job.

If you are a hard-core FPS gamer looking to dominate everyone just get the XIM3. This is one area where you definitely get what you pay for.

Want to use a real keyboard and mouse at low cost? Get the EAGLE EYE (then head to their forums and read up)

Insist on the absolute best, regardless of price (hardcore gamer)? Get the XIM3 (then head to their forums and read up)

You can't really go wrong with any of the 4 options.. I got the Frag FX because there's no setup and amazon prime shipping was offered.

I will update this review after testing the Frag FX on Battlefield 3.. I've held off because I doubt it will work very well as the game itself currently has lag issues.

I was scared when ordering the shark. I thought it may not be worth the money. but i am glad i did get it. It works great in call of duty and battlefield bad company 2. i also tried it in fall out 3 and new vegas. I works ok but it does smoothly go diagonally in these games. ALso in the fallouts you can not get the sensitivity high enough to make it seem like you are playing on computer i have to constantly pick up the mouse. In call of duty is where it shines it gives me pixel by pixel aiming i can turn quickly up down side to side diagonally it all works really good.

i mostly play call of duty black ops so the controller was worth it to me if you play games other than fps it might not work good but for fps it is alot of fun. It makes target acquisition much easier as well as following moving targets.

the build feels sturdy doesnt feel cheap. It is really easy to set up

comes with a mouse pad that is pretty good

I just picked up the new fragfx shark... I have never used a mouse for gaming before, as I never game on a pc. Been gaming on consoles since Atari, but wanted to try this out based on all the hype about mouse being better than analog sticks for aiming and all. The thing cst $90 plus shipping, but I took the plunge to try it out with black ops. Got it in thursday after playing black ops for a few days with my dualshock 3. The first day I thought i had wasted over $100 on something that I could never learn. My first 3 matches I went roughly 1 kill and 23 deaths average. Considering I had been going 21-16 K/D with the dualshock it wasn't very promising. I decided to stick it out for a week before putting it on craigslist and ebay.. I am sooooo glad i did that, because after only 2 or 3 days I finally got used to using the mouse to aim, and now I feel quicker and better in game. Played a round of Battlefield and went 36-9 K/D playing conquest on white pass, No camping , moving from flag to flag the whole time. On Black Ops had my first ever 7 kill streak and did it twice with a k/d of 21-9 in one game. granted the game is new and I undoubtedly got better as I learned the maps, but I have been playing BFBC2 since launch and this was my best round ever.. I got the Shark which is wireless, and I have noticed no lag, but the price is steep. I have no experience with any of the other models, but this one works great for me and I will probably never go back to using the dualshock for an fps.

A few side notes. I have heard reviews say the mousepad isn't good. I am hoping to buy a better mousepad to compare but the one it comes with does seem a little smaller than I would like.

I bought a 4 pack of pre charged duracell 2000 MaH rechargeable batteries with the charger at walmart for $13 and still haven't ran the first 2 batteries dead. The battery life is very good, and with rechargeable batteries cost should be minimal.

UPDATE...... I bought a rocketfish gaming mousepad from best buy and would highly recommend it. A little bigger, way more responsive, and has a speed and control side. I prefer the speed side but both are better than the one provided by splitfish.

Guitar hero is finally back! This game has taken me to back in the day when Guitar hero was king. Before it lost out to rock band. The game play is right back on par and and I've really enjoyed the new features added to this version including the ability to slide and hammer on notes. Much more realistic to actual guitar playing.

Pros:

*Music: Some great old school classics (including Phish,Santana, and Bon Jovi) mixed with current pop hits, great for all ages.

Cons:

The only slightly negative thing I would have to say is that they haven't brought down the price of the downloadable content yet. They should group more of them together for less money. Because I don't want to pay $20 for 10 new songs.

Ps3 Online Multi-player makes it difficult to find people on the network.

Overall a good buy and a great addition to the guitar hero family.

All the new features and setlist are what make this game amazing.

I was really getting tired of RB/GH Releasing the same thing over and over again with new songs, almost no new features, and the same tired note charts. Guitar Hero 5 changes everything. Completely redesigned interface that makes you feel like you can NEVER press a wrong button. You can switch modes within modes, go directly online from within modes, and even pull up your friends list from a new in-game menu (on PlayStation Network) and send network invites. The only thing I hate about this is, they took away the XMB friends list (it'd be equal to pulling up the Xbox Live invite list) for their own friends screen which doesn't sort by whether your friend is on/offline and whether they are playing Guitar Hero 5 or not. It's kind of crappy. However, it does let you see their Rocker Card for friends who've played the game.

That's probably the only complaint I have about the game. Everything else is prestine and adds a new funky freshness to the genre. Rock Band 3 is already trying to copy the new and improved music studio adding in their own thing. You can know use RB2 cymbals in GH5, which used to cause an error on previous games. You can import GHWT, GHSH, GHVH, and BH into Guitar Hero 5 and all your GHWT DLC except for Jimi Hendrix.

Updated note charts for RB drum players, too. You now use green for a cymbal and yellow isn't only for hi-hat anymore and velocity sensitivity has been added in for RB2 drums, also.

If you like rockband and you like country music, you are going to like this.

One thing to keep in mind, that these are the same songs that are included in the country trackpacks 1,2, and 3 that are available via DLC. So if you don't have any this is going to be cheaper. If you already have 1 and 2, then you are much better off just buying the 3rd.

You might also like to know that there is a country 4 trackpack that is available for $14.99 which includes like 8 more country songs. And then there is also some Toby Keith not included in any of the country packs.

I think this is a great game for all those who love country music. Like any rock band game if you can't sing you get booed off stage; so if you have young kids this can get a little discouraging for them. The game has a wide variety of songs that range from old country to newer country. I would love to see another country rock band come out. This game is a little harder I think than regular rock band but still fun to play!

Let me start by saying that I am a die-hard Silent Hill fan. I played the first game when it was released in 1999, which made me about 12 years old (my parents obviously made a very "wise" purchasing decision at the time) and bought every subsequent game (aside from the Japanese play novel and on-rails arcade game) on the dates of their release. Despite that the game disturbed me beyond words and gave me recurrent nightmares, I felt compelled to keep coming back for more just because it was such an inexplicable, bizarre, unique, emotional, "otherworldly" experience. I was never the type to lose sleep over movies and games about zombies, diseases or war/general violence; Silent Hill transcended those things to me because it was like it was pulled directly from my deepest, darkness nightmares and fears of evil, eternal damnation, etc. Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 aren't "video games" so much as they are, in my opinion, works of absolute genius, developed by a handful of Japanese game designers that were clearly very well versed in classic horror films, novels and religious lore. They have set an incredibly high standard for anyone to attempt to live up to.

With that said, Silent Hill Downpour is certainly a valiant effort, not to be mistaken as the absolute failure that a couple of other reviews around the internet have described it as. It is a massive improvement from SH: Homecoming (which pretty much played out like someone watched the movie, played the first game for ten minutes and said, "OK, I get it.") but alas, still doesn't hold a candle to the first three games in terms of their artistry, imagination, soundtrack and the way they just... well, stuck with you, making you lose sleep and contemplate the overwhelming weirdness you had just witnessed.

First of all, The enemies in this game are somewhat unoriginal. It's ironic that the band Korn did the song for the trailer because one of the first enemies you encounter almost looks like a zombie version of one of the Korn band members; complete with black, parted bangs that hang over its face. The designers did a nice job of making the light reflect off of their bodies which appear to have a charred texture, reminiscent of Silent Hill 2's "prisoner" demons, which looked as if they were encased in their own burnt flesh. But despite this one cool visual effect, these creatures (referred to as, "screamers") aren't that disturbing. One of the other enemies you encounter are these tall, lanky beings that have the ability to crawl around on the ceiling and attack you from above... sounds scary, right? Not really. They're kind of goofy looking and their movements are a little bit too exaggerated. And the last type I'll mention (brace yourselves)... sex dolls with blacked out eyes whose ghosts are invisible and fight you. I mean, really? Luckily their existence in the environments makes for a much more frightening experience than the enemies do by themselves.

The other major downfall to this game is the overall lack of polish on the final product. Before buying this game I told myself the rumors of camera jitter, image chopping and framerate dips weren't going to effect my playing experience because I know there is supposed to be so much more to this series than the occasional programming flaw. Despite telling myself that, trust me, they do cut into the gameplay experience. None of the visual faults lie in the graphics themselves; only in the camera, the visual rendering and the occasional pop-up textures. While it is easy to overlook, it does make the game feel like less of a complete product than previous games. Hopefully the developers will take the hint and release a patch that fixes these issues because they take what would be in my mind a 4-star game and turn it into a 3-star one.

The environments are very detailed and it's clear the developers put a lot of time and effort into making sure everything looked truly abandoned, like it was inhabited at some point and the inhabitants just mysteriously disappeared one day. The crumbling walls, dusty interiors, strewn garbage and great lighting effects combine to create a chilling world that will feel like home to any hardcore Silent Hill fan. This is one of the game's biggest selling points. If it didn't feel like Silent Hill, it wouldn't be worth playing and it really does feel like Silent Hill. The dramatically improved graphics from previous entries in the series only adds to the believability. The only problem I have with the environments is that there are too many sections where you have a lot of visibility. That might sound strange to newcomers of the series but to old school fans like myself, the extremely limited visibility actually pulled the player deeper into the game, making them wonder what was going to be around every turn and just what unimaginable horrors lay just out of view. Luckily there are sections where the game is extremely dark and the only light you have is the light of your flashlight. These are the classic Silent Hill moments and by far the creepiest sections (look forward to the mines and certain cramped interiors, both on and off the beaten path).

Here is where my heart breaks a little bit. The "otherworld" sequences are a mix of engaging and totally cliche'. The "wall-peeling" mechanic introduced in the movie is something I've really grown tired of seeing. Not every transition has to come with the walls peeling away. Some of the transitions into the nightmare realm in Silent Hill 1, 2 and 3 didn't even involve sirens or anything; sometimes they involved going through some strange door, taking a ride on an elevator decorated with flesh or getting consumed by black veins and passing out. It's not just some stupid alternate dimension, it's a re-imaging of the current dimension incorporated with the main character's deepest and darkest fears. I'm so sick of it playing out like some silly trip to another planet or something. There are some cool things in the nightmare realm in this game, such as bodies rattling around in cages but you don't really get to enjoy them to their full extent when you're running from an all-consuming ball of light, which is not that scary. It's kind of scary when it catches you because Murphy (the main character) starts to peel away kind of like the walls and emits an ear-piercing scream but other than that the concept of the floating black hole is not really that frightening. I miss the days of stark black, chain link, blood, rust, walls that move and breathe like they're alive, strange pictures and statues posing in mind-boggling ways... these are the things that embody the nightmare universe, not some stupid vortex chasing you along catwalks.

Lastly, to be positive, I'm really happy they brought back the explorational elements of the game. There are so many different side quests to be experienced (many of them more eerie than the linear storyline itself) all with their own psychological rewards. The puzzles are the perfect degree of hard without being so hard that you want to pull your hair out and stop playing the game. The characters are particularly interesting and really remind me of the kind of 'people' one would encounter in a Silent Hill game including the main character, and the voice acting and motion capture are some of the best the series has ever seen.

To summarize, if you are a Silent Hill fanatic like me, there are fruits to be experienced in this game that will perhaps tide you over until a game comes out that is everything we could ever hope for (if that ever happens) but don't expect it to blow you away like the first three did. If you've never played a Silent Hill game, there is enough here for you to find enjoyable and unique, particularly if you're a fan of survival horror. There are cracks in the surface of this game and it's clear it isn't the work of 'Team Silent' but it is a worthy addition to the collection of anyone who takes an interest in the macabre and the generally bizarre. But it won't keep you up telling yourself it's the scariest thing you've ever seen. -Joman

I've been eagerly awaiting this game for a long time. I've been playing Silent Hill games for as long as I can remember, and agree with the fact that the series was declining. WAS. Contrary to IGN's beliefs, this is the Silent Hill fans have been waiting for.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you all the pros and cons of the game, but I felt that I should defend the game's honor against a scathing IGN review giving the game 4.5 out of 10. Seriously...a 4.5? That implies the game is an unplayable piece of garbage, which SH:D most certainly is not. I was worried by all the negativity and honestly feared another Homecoming type experience (blah at best) but so far have been pleased by the offerings of Downpour.

I don't necessarily understand reviews that say the combat is "clunky." Its the first time in a Silent Hill game where the combat isn't actually just a pain in the ass and actually adds to the game. Items break and Murphy is by no means a superhuman, which means running away is your best bet more often than not. Firearms are VERY rare, meaning you save shots for when you have absolutely no other choice.

The game is among the scariest Silent Hills, and my first trip to Otherworld left me thinking WTF by the time I was free. The story itself is also interesting, because the player doesn't know if Murphy is an evil man or a good man who got caught up in bad circumstances. Little morality choices throughout the game don't seem to really matter, but I feel better inside knowing I at least tried to save the person dangling over the cliff.

All in all the game is a real return to form for the Silent Hill franchise. Be aware that there are minor framerate issues, but they in no way hinder gameplay. Usually they only happen when entering from one area to another, and never in the middle of a life and death fight (which is somewhat odd come to think about it). Don't believe the people at IGN giving it a 4.5. While it isn't the most perfect game ever, it's certainly at least an 8.0. Have fun in Silent Hill and make sure you have a light on nearby!

I've never written a review before on here. I just got it, but I had to give my opinion due to the scores this title has been receiving. Mainly, IGN's abysmal 4.5/10 review.

The game begins with Murphy in prison and quickly sees his bus careen off-track during transport to another facility. This is where the game begins proper, and oh boy, is it freaky. There is still fog, and the rain adds a nice density to it.

You can use anything for a weapon. Frying pan, knife, hammer, broom, anything, which is realistic. This adds the elusive survival element that has been missing from horror since, well...Silent Hill 4. I've heard combat is clunky, but we're going for realism here. Murphy is a convict (for what is the million dollar question), so unless he's an expert murderer, he won't be good with weapons. And after you fight your first monsters (which are freaky), you won't feel like combat is clunky. At least it doesn't to me.

The only problem I see so far is lag when it's auto-saving, as well as the inability to save it whenever you want. These are minor grips. Also, it's worth noting that the achievements/trophies are actually fun to get in this game. The side quests will add a good dimension to Silent Hill, although I haven't come across those yet.

You can open doors slowly, too, which adds to the intensity of the horror. There are Otherworld sequences where you're getting chased by a mysterious black and red orb of light, and the first time you experience this in the game, you won't expect it. It adds an interesting chase set piece to the game.

So far, so good. Silent Hill fans needn't not hold their breath any longer. This is the real deal.

Plenty of reviews on here already that cover much of what this game has to offer, so I think I will just keep it short and sweet with a "Good" and "Bad" list. This list is primarily for Silent Hill fans who are still debating about whether or not to pick up this chapter in the series. I, too, am a fan of the series, and dove into this game with plenty of hopes and dreads for where it would take the series. Bottom line: It's well worth the plunge because it's a hell of a lot of fun, but I did miss a lot of what made the first three games truly scary.

THE GOOD:

1. Nearly open-world exploration with plenty of side quests: I loved being able to run all over Silent Hill for most of this game (at least, when I wasn't blocked by construction barriers or missing roads), and the subway shortcuts simply added to this pleasure. The developers did an excellent job bringing this town to life, allowing the player to pop into houses, businesses, and apartment complexes to find reward items or side quests. The side quests really made this game for me, as they give Silent Hill more history and personality (and I mean in a good, morbid way). Plus, these quests are actually fun to complete, especially if you like exploring and solving puzzles.

2. Puzzle-solving: There is a nice variety of puzzles for players to tackle here, a few of which (the tougher ones) require exploration to solve. I played on the hard difficulty (for both game and puzzle levels), and even though the puzzles were challenging, they were not controller-hurling impossible.

3. A true sense of danger (though, unfortunately, not of dread -see "THE BAD" #1 below): Even though there are many melee weapons available, they all break fairly easily. This, in addition to some unpredictable attack patterns from the enemies, brings a lot of tension back to Silent Hill (unlike in Homecoming, whose protagonist was a soldier and could easily slaughter anything that stepped in his path). Running is definitely a good idea.

4. Passing through doors: This may seem weird to those of you who haven't played this yet, but the way your character opens doors in Downpour is ingenious and COULD have really added to the terror. As you begin to open a door, the camera zooms in to over-the-shoulder mode, and you use the control stick to open the door as quickly or as slowly as you like, just in case you want to peek at what's on the other side before you go barreling in. Unfortunately, this would have been a LOT better if there were moments when the peek reveals something truly horrifying. Mostly, however, there are just empty rooms on the other side of that door.

5. The atmosphere: The overall feel of Downpour, in my opinion, is a true step in the right direction. Leaves twirl down onto the streets, everything is shrouded in mist (or fog), the collectible "mystery" items like letters and newspaper articles that Murphy picks up throughout the game, the dimly-lit and decaying dwellings -all these make Silent Hill FEEL like a haunted place again.

6. The music: Actually very good, and adds to the point above. Never has "Born Free" been so freakin' creepy.

THE BAD

1. A real sense of DREAD: What made the first three Silent Hill titles so memorable was the DREAD caused by their monsters. I am talking real dread here. The kind of dread where you literally stop playing because you have to build up the courage to go down that hallway. Downpour mainly fails in its ability to realize how the first three games made their monsters work. There are only five monster types in Downpour, none of which are actually very scary. Silent Hill should be a place where the creatures are truly grotesque -like, when they come shuffling through the fog so you can see them better, and you still can't figure out what it is you're looking at? The monsters in Downpour are too identifiable, too familiar. And they DON'T LURK, which totally sucks. In Downpour, if your walkie talkie starts squelching, chances are the monster sees you and will come charging right at you. The series needs to go back to those moments I had in Silent Hill 2 where I'm creeping through the darkened hallways of the hospital and my radio starts to crackle -so I stop and try to peer far ahead into the gloom to see if I can make out one of those pistol-wielding nurses up ahead, or if she's just around the next corner, and I'm trying to decide if I have enough bullets to take her if I bump into her, but hopefully I can avoid her if I JUST KNEW WHERE THE HELL SHE WAS! Sigh. The developers have a really good thing going with that door-opening mechanic to rebuild this dread I used to have. Shame they did nothing with it. Yeah, the monsters in Downpour takes #1 for THE BAD.

2. The story: I actually debated about putting this in the "Good" section, because there IS a good story here -but, it isn't Silent Hill quality, unfortunately. There was something literary in the first three titles that has been lost in recent installments. I mean, you can actually find extraordinarily in-depth essays online that try to tackle the themes, plot, and symbolism that were put into the early Silent Hill games. I'm an English teacher. I teach literature for a living. Even I was confused by the stories behind the first three Silent Hills --but it was a good confused. The early stories gave you just enough to paint a vague landscape of what was going on, and left you to ponder the details long after you had defeated the final boss. Recently, however, Silent Hill stories are basically spelled out for you, tossing art aside. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the story in Downpour, but because I don't have to think about what just happened, it has become forgettable. Even the side quest stories, as cool as they are, are still all laid out for you. Shame.

3. The Otherworld scenes: First of all, there are not very many Otherworld transformations going on this time around, and when they DO happen, they are crap. The Otherworld is a Silent Hill staple -an even DARKER version of an already dark place. For this to have been done right, there should have been moments when you had to wander Silent Hill (or your current level) in its Otherworld form. The Otherworld sequences in Downpour seem like completely different places, with very little (if any) representation of the level or location they are the "Otherworld" of. Then again, Silent Hill is bigger here than it has ever been, so perhaps making TWO versions would have been too much? I dunno, but judging from the size of games like Skyrim, I don't think this would have been a problem, and would have really been cool. Instead, we are treated to short sequences of "run from the glowing a**hole" moments and hope you pick the right path, because reloading is a bi*ch.

So, overall, I think that there are a lot of things going on that is right with this game, and could really be used to bring the series back to its heyday, maybe even SURPASS those initial titles if the developers hadn't dropped the ball on those three important points I listed in "THE BAD". Silent Hill will never be Silent Hill without those things.

Simply said this game is fantastic. What stands out to me the most is the lushness of the environments. All locations are laid out in such detail, variety and believability that it is incredibly engrossing. The settings may be surreal (ie. A tree's branches overgrown and broken into the interior of building) but it's rendered in such a way that seems beyond plausible. Going with the tree example you can see the musky dust and dirt that comes in the room lightly settling on the furniture with vein-like burn marks on the floor from a previous fire. It's truly an escapist experience. Furthermore, the game sports fantastic voice acting, complex flushed out characters, a highly likable protagonist and to it's major credit superb sound design. Most of all Downpour always comes across as fresh and scary never coming across as bankrupt of ideas.

In conclusion : Downpour is Smart, Scary and ultimately highly Successful. Tension keeps ratcheting up all the way to the finale.

It is obviously apparent that VATRA has put their heart and soul into this game and if I could I would give them a standing ovation. I guess this review will just have to do.

NOTE:

I am posting this mainly for the first time buyers so I will be talking about the game in its entirety rather than discussing mainly the expansion PS3 gamers who somehow missed the original Dark Souls and now have the opportunity to try out the vastly expanded edition. Anyone who has the original game has or should get the DLC from the PlayStation Store, no need to buy a new disc-based game.

I do not consider myself a hard core gamer but there were a few grand games that I played hard and long on the PS3: Oblivion, Fallout, Grand Turismo, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls. Of these, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are the only Platinum I've ever earned and I probably did way over 1000 hours of pure fear, strong anxiety and intense frustration punctuated by brief moments of pride and joy brought by the hard earned sweet victories.

I started talking about Demon's Souls because to us, PS3 gamers, Dark Souls is NOT the first coming of unspeakable terror onto our consoles. Dark Souls is the SECOND coming. And what a visitation this is :)

For those of you who played Demon's, what follows is a brief comparison between the two Souls games. For everyone else it's just a hint of what you may find in what I view as the most innovative RPG game that was ever released for a console can't speak for PCs because I don't play too many big PC games.

THE COMMONS

Deomon's Souls had many, never-seen-before, amazing innovations. We hoped and we expected to see most of them again on 'chapter two' and Dark Souls does not disappoint even though Dark's seems to be a Universe unrelated to Demon's. It's not even a parallel Universe (I like to think of parallel Universes as those in which the other fellow Dark Souls players exist if running around as a hollowed-out soul you can call 'existence'. It's a different world but a lot works in seemingly familiar ways.

Here's what I would call the Demon's heritage:

One-save only. And this is a BIG thing because the game saves itself every couple of seconds. Once you get hurt or you hurt someone you didn't mean to you can't go back to the previous save because there's no such thing. Unless you have one hand on the power cord ready to pull it, everything you do has consequences and you can't go back and try again. Be VERY careful when you talk to them merchants or blacksmiths because one unintended slap and they will never deal with you again unless... well there are ways to repent for your sins :) but I won't do spoilers.

Human vs. Soul form. Can't be invaded by other players while in Soul (Hollow) form. As a Human you can invade other words, help others, seek help.

Classes. You pick yours from 10. Not exactly the same as in Demon's though.

Stats. Again, 10 different categories, some differently named, some totally new like 'humanity' and 'attunement'.

The ability to seek help and to help others. You can have up to 2 humans or NPCs on your side.

The Stones. They are of different colors but they have uses not unlike the Demon's stones, possibly more: to seek help, to leave messages, to invade.

Souls as currency of the land and the price price you must pay to level up. And you lose them all every time you die so... use them (buy, uplevel) before you lose them.

Every time you rest most non-boss enemies respawn.

The ability to play nasty and invade other players' worlds.

Blood stains. You can see how others died.

Second (and ONLY second) chance. You can recover lost souls if you can touch your own blood stain before you die again. Or... there are ways not to lose your hard-earned souls but, again, no spoilers and almost everything in Dark Souls comes at a price.

Messages. Can leave messages but don't expect to be able to type away detailed clues. You pick your message from a pre-approved list.

Incredibly precise combat (well... there is lag when you do online battles). Each class of weapons acts differently and you can see/feel the difference between hitting flesh, bone or armor.

Uchigatanas!!! Need I say more? These are by far the coolest katanas you'll ever swing in any game and probably the best you can get through this one at least through mid-game. Demon Souls most terrifying black phantoms (invading players) where the 2-Uchigatana dudes. Most, possibly all of the Demon's weapons can be found in Dark: Claymores, Halberds, Clubs, Axes, Estocs and so forth.

Practice makes perfect. Like Demon's Souls, this is a struggle for perfection because in most instances only perfect or near-perfect attacks and defenses will save you from yet another horrific death.

Continues the Deomon's tradition of no difficulty levels. Like its predecessor, there's only one difficulty level on Dark and that's 'very easy', as in 'very easy to get yourself killed'. Seriously, for anyone who played Demon's, Dark feels like the second or third playthrough only you start at a low level, have no weapons or armor and find yourself in completely unfamiliar territory now so it takes a little bit of dying, observing and experimenting before your learn the ropes.

THE DELTAS (new and never seen before)

This, I'm sure, is going to be a growing list and I'm going to update it as I progress into the game. If what's going on in this game can be called 'progress'.

One inter-connect world design. No Nexus hub here. This appear to be a huge world but gates, bridges and passes are all well guarded so be prepared to shed a lot of blood and die a lot to earn your right to open shortcuts. Unlike Demon's which had a hub that was the only connection between the several separate 'worlds', Dark's world regrions are very much interconnected and much of the fun and mystery is your gradually discovering and unlocking sometimes secret doors and passages.

The healing system. The role of 'grasses' is drastically reduced (there are some mosses that you can still use to cure ailments) but Dark doesn't make it as easy when it comes to your ability to recover health. You can gulp an Estus flask for a quick heal or you can sacrifice a humanity or use any or a number of healing miracles.

The Covenants. Each of the 9 will open new play modes and, as always, every action brings about consequences.

Pyromancy as a THIRD class of magic, joining sorcery and miracles. For anyone who likes fire and explosions... it's awesome and you don't need to be 'high level' to be an effective pyromancer.

The Gifts. Interestingly some seem to have no effect while others such as the Magic Key is quite useful.

Danger times 2. It may be just because I'm a little rusty playing Souls or because I know Demon's so well now it's like a walk in the park but Dark appears to be a lot harder. But... we play, we learn.

More color. Can't imagine Demon's with colors but in this world the occasional bright splashes blend well and don't subtract from the feeling of danger.

No Luck. You COULD get lucky in Deomon's Souls but that's no longer the case. That particular stat has disappeared, replaced by your ability to hold 'humanities' which you lose every time you die unless you can recover them by making it back to the place of your last death in one piece.

Sweet revenge. One of the covenants mission is to hunt down and kill those nasty dark phantom bullies.

And, of course, Dark Souls does away with all the gentleness and hand-holding occasionally found in Demon's. It really does. Remember that nice Russian lady in the Nexus that you must kill if you want your Platinum? Gone!

THE STORY

Don't expect to 'get it' immediately. The lore is there: hints from conversations with merchants and other NPCs, the descriptions for the various weapons, armor or magic items... the big picture will emerge, eventually if you have the patience.

THE EXPANSION

If you are buying this, most likely you are new to the game because if you own original game you purchase the expansion as a DLC from the PlayStation Store. I've been playing it for the past couple of weeks and I am pleased to note that FROM did not give in to the calls for 'easy modes' or making the game any more forgiving. If anything, the new bosses you unlock when travelling back in time to the long-lost world of Oolacile, they are more challenging. In fact each of the three major bosses: Artorias, Kalameet and Manus are harder to defeat than any of the original ones. Add to that a number of cool NPCs, armor sets, sorceries and weapons and you get probably the best expansion ever added to the greatest game I've ever played on my PS3.

MY RATING

If Amazon's 5 stars stands for 'I love it', what would be the star count for "I love it, I fear it and, 80 hours into the game I'm obsessed by it"? Well... 5's the limit :). I spent hundreds of hours on the original game and, until the third Souls game becomes available I hope they are already working on it I'll be spending hundreds more.

If you have an entertainment center where you prefer not to have wires spilling out the front, this is the perfect product for your PS3. It conveniently (and quickly) charges up to 4 PS3 controllers at once. But it does have a bad point that doesn't make the product terrible, but might give you pause before you purchase it.

The Goods:

1) Power Source: It's handy to be able to plug this into the wall instead of the PS3 via a USB cable. You don't have to have that wire hanging off the front of the unit all the time, which kept the glass door on the front of my entertainment center from closing.

2) Design: It can charge up to four controllers at once and has LED indicators to indicate if the controller is charging or fully-charged. It has a slim design that allows you to put it anywhere convenient.

The Bad:

1) It can be a bit tricky to plug the controller's USB socket into the one on the charge base. Out of the six or so times that I put my controllers on the charge base, there hasn't been a single time where I got the controller to easily slide on without having to gently manipulate both the charge base and controller. It can take about a minute to line up the sockets and get the controller in place, and you need to do this GENTLY.

Overall:

To me, it's worth it because of the slim design, the wall-power source, and the convenience of being able to charge 4 controllers at once. But since it can be tricky to get the controllers in to the base, I wouldn't recommend this product to kids who might get impatient when the controller doesn't slide in quickly.

After reading several reviews about this product, I was a bit concerned that it would be difficult to insert and remove a SIXAXIS controller, but that concern proved to be unfounded.

Yes, it does take a bit of lining up to get it to work, but it's so trivially easy to do that I got used to it within the first three times I inserted the controller.

What makes it tricky is that there are spring-loaded plastic nubs that are intended to hold your controller in place, and you have to push the controller past the nubs before you reach the connector. So you push a bit, then make sure the controller is lined up with the connector--which is easy to do since the USB socket on the SIXAXIS is recessed. Once you can feel that the connector within the recession, a gentle push completes the connection.

The device includes scratch-prevention stickers that you can apply to your SIXAXIS, but they really aren't necessary. Just be a bit patient the first couple times you do it, and it becomes second nature.

If you've got multiple controllers, this is an ideal product to have--it allows you to charge them in a place that may be more convenient for you than having them tethered to your PS3. If you're looking for a convenient way to charge your controllers--up to four of them--don't let concerns about how "tricky" it is to insert the controller dissuade you from purchasing this.

The product works great, it even looks great. I really like that it allows me store the controllers in one compact location. However, there is the major design flaw that everyone mentions: It is Very difficult to seat the controllers USB recactacle port onto the chrgers USB plug!!! I am very patient and gentle with the thing, but it takes me at least a good 1-2 minutes to get it to seat properly. I have already damaged the port on one controller. I design electronic products for a living, they could have easily made this product better with very little added expense.

The charger is almost an essential add-on; charging your controllers via the PS3 can take time and if you only have a single USB cable, forget it. The charger charges the controllers quickly and doesn't take up a lot of room.

Never once have I gotten the controllers plugged in without an argument. I figured it would be something that would get easier over time as I did it more, but it hasn't. You would think, given how fragile both the male and female components of the USB connectors are, that the designers would have ensured an easy slide in/out, but they didn't.

Having not purchased a new gaming console since the NES, I am fascinated with the advancements made in gaming, as well as the peripherals. Fear not, adding a few wireless controllers doesn't detract from the sophisticated appearance of one's entertainment system. Integrating the Nyko Charger into the system only contributed to the ease of the system's maintenance. Before purchasing the charger, I was charging my controllers while using the computer via USB cables, given the system must be on to begin charging. Additionally, there is very little downtime, as it takes about an hour to fully charge the controllers. Some may find it appealing that the charger is a self-contained unit, meaning it doesn't need to be connected to the console. Thus, allowing the console to focus on what it does best without having to bear the burden of allocating energy for the controllers.

There are a few inherent drawbacks in the charger's design. However, they shouldn't be vexing enough to prevent anyone from purchasing it. Similar to everyone else's comments, it is difficult to plug in. I can't throw the controllers in the charger haphazardly. Admittedly, I read the comments prior to purchasing it, and just shrugged it off. As mentioned above, the charger provides you with a few stickers to place around the USB port, which affords you some protection against possible scratches.

The slots are very slim allowing only the controller to be inserted. If you have a silicone cover, it will need to be removed before performing the arduous task of aligning the controller for insertion. Regardless, it is still valuable tool that will integrate nicely.

I have to admit, I was a little worried that this game would be somewhat like, well, what many people write it off as being, without giving it a second look, and that is boring and pointless. After playing it, I am relieved that it is such a good experience for anyone interested in wildlife cinematography and photography.

For those of you interested in photography, here's a little insight into the level of sophistication the game has to offer. The game allows you to accumulate and upgrade cameras and purchase lenses. It does a great job of creating depth of field changes with aperture settings, and you have shutter speed settings that affect exposure and motion blur as in real world cameras, and there are priority modes or even full manual settings that can be played around with, with realistic results in your photographs. There is enough devotion to real life photgraphy put into the development of Afrika to make it a gem on that premise alone.

Here's a tip to keep in mind -patience is rewarded, as you will realize that the new cameras and lenses you unlock and purchase are dramatically improving the quality of your photos. The beginning camera takes lousy pictures and it would be sad if people didn't realize that the game intends the quality to start out poor, just like in the real world starting out with cheap cameras.

As the game begins, you choose your character and start out at base camp with a laptop, camera, binoculars and GPS. You get emailed requests to take specific types of pictures and you are on your way, driving here and there with a guide. Gameplay is more like an animal watching sim than anything else. While there is no hardcore gaming action going on here, there are grand moments in the game such as photographing a mother elephant with her calf in a herd, driving alongside a cheetah, getting attacked by an African Bufffalo ... damn those African Buffalos .... they attacked me over and over again. Unfortunately, when you are attacked, the animal charges at you (many different animals can attack you) but before any kind of contact is made, the screen fades, and you are sent back to Base Camp to start your daily safari all over again. So there is no real violence, just the implication of it.

After a few missions, you eventually lose the guide and drive yourself to wherever you want to go. You can buy a tent and camp out in other areas, away from your base camp, if you decide to not return to base camp when the sun sets.

The graphics are superb and do justice to the 720p display but can be a little overly sharpened on the trees and foliage at times, giving it a less real look and more "video game" look. Distant vistas and mountains look great, the animals look great also and are animated well enough that you feel like you are around real wild animals. The animals look fantastic through the binoculars and it is pleasing that the camera work progresses toward that quality you see through the binoculars as you upgrade your gear.

The sounds of the animals are authentic and very well done. Just playing the game brings the sounds of the outdoors into your home.

The music is mostly grand orchestral and for the most part is very cinematic and movie-like large, but at times is African light melody.

Sunsets and sunrises are cool looking but kind of foggy at times.

There are a few activities to choose from within the main menu. You can start or continue your "Safari", which is the main game mode, allowing you to progress through the game. There is also a "big game trophy" mode that allows you to replay the more exciting photo shoots you unlock. Having this mode is really nice. There is a built in National Geographic library of real life photographs and information that unlocks and expands as you encounter each animal. There is also an environment "viewer" that allows you to play customized video clips that showcase each area and the animals that inhabit it.

You also have your photo library on your in-game laptop. This is where all of your pictures get stored and you can sort through them, delete them, play a slide show ... etc.

If you can picture yourself enjoying wildlife photography, then I would imagine you would like Afrika quite a bit. If the idea of that sounds boring, then I would bet you would find the game lacking.

I've never written a review on Amazon before for any item. I feel incredibly compelled to do so for this game, "Afrika". A lot of reviews from "gaming" websites and magazines have given this experience a less than favorable score for it's gameplay. Folk's, let me make this short and sweet. There is a wealth of information on the animals you will encounter during this game that is presented in an easy to use an entertaining fashion within the software. The graphics on each animal are top notch and the sound makes you feel as if you were indeed in Africa. If you enjoy exploring the world's creatures from within your living room, (with a beverage of your choice, for relaxing...hint...is this thing on?) then purchase this title and help to ensure another one will follow. I've been a gamer since the days of Pong, (ok, so I'm not in my 20's, jeeze!) so please trust in my opinion that if you want the experience that you hope this is, you will get it in spades. Hello all, well ill get a few things out of the way, i like action adventure games with or without the blood is fine by me, i also like shooters and survival horror (just read all my reviews). When i first heard about afrika back when the ps3 was just launching i thought "wow that sounds dumber than all hell" and it kinda slipt my mind for along time. One day while trying to get demons souls imported i came upon a deal of buy 3 get free shipping (seeing as how the were coming from asia couldnt pass up) so i got demons souls (fantastic) ratchet and clank quest for booty (on a disc and in english) and Hakuna Matata (afrika). At the time i picked these up the only one definetly coming to the u.s. was ratchet so i figured what the heck if i didnt like afrika id sell it. well this game is not leaving my collection.

the pros are

+graphics are really good

+gameplay is rewarding

+its a relaxing break from violence

the cons are

-no voice whatsoever

-none violent (a monkey ran infront of my jeep and brought me to a dead stop)

-if you dont like animals or photography its not for you.

those are the majors for me but i look at it like this,

sometimes i can only play while kids are sleeping and you dont need the sound for this.

my daughter like to watch me play and she is learning from the info in this game as am i.

again no violence means i can play while they watch.

overall i think its a fantastic experience and while it isnt my most favorite game atm i do put it in regularly to relax and unwind. Usually i go on a safari a day at least.

p.s. patience is a virtue in this game, youll see.

This is such a classy and well done title. Playing this game is almost like watching a National Geographic documentary. You accept jobs via email from magazines on your handy laptop. (Take a picture of a hippo with it's mouth open, take a picture of a zebra head on, etc...) You are then paid based on how good the picture is. Closeness, focus, centered all figure into the judging. You have to be careful, many animals will charge and trample you!!!

It is both beautiful and fun, even if you're watching someone else play. Highly recommended.

Everyone is different... I have "Endless Ocean" for the Wii. I loved the game and highly recommended it to friends... Funny, they all hated it. "You can't kill anything! All you do is swim around and take pictures", was the reply. I laughed and shrugged my shoulders.

Played this game in WDW and loved it. (It's one of the more popular rides in Hollywood Studios.)

When I saw this on another website, I knew I had to buy it for my girlfriend. We've played it for well over 20 hours, so far, with no end in sight.

Great game. Well worth the money.

All of the modes work as stated, I had to tweak some shots per second on BO2 but it was easy and explained in the manual provided. I actually bought a 2nd one after i played with this one awhile.

Product was not delivered by estimated date, I actually ended up waiting an extra 4 days on delivery, company could not tell me the exact location of my item.. The product is a great idea and it has come a long way since simple rapid fire. The problem is that Black Ops 2 multiplayer will catch you and you will instantly get an update message. Once you have applied the update (or turned the game off and on again), you will be playing with some of the worst cheaters known, I have seen wall hacks, aimbots and a cheat that appears to be a permanent orbital vsat. If you are looking for a little advantage over your opponents, this is not going to help you at all.

Overall, the controller is great. You can program different rapid fire rates easily, you can turn off all mods very quickly. It feels almost identical to the stock Sony controller and the buttons and pads have excellent grip. You just have to be careful what game you use it on or you could take a Master Prestige account and ruin it.

The GeniusMods web site claims that the controller is undetectable, this is probably true but I think Treyarch is wise to the fact that consistently hitting your R1 button 20 times in a single second is probably not possible without a modded controller.

The GeniusMods web site (FAQ page) states ...

Q: Can I get in trouble, or banned for using modded controllers? Is it illegal?

A: Not at all – the only thing you can get banned for or in trouble for is if you mod your Xbox 360 console. Controller modifications are perfectly legal.

However, here is what Treyarch says ...

Any user who utilizes an unsupported external hardware device or application to interact with the game is subject to penalty. Unsupported peripheral devices and applications include but are not limited to modded controllers, IP flooders and lag switches.

I gave this controller 2/5 because it says that it is designed for Black Ops 2 (the only game that I play) and it is basically worthless to me. Shortly after trying out this this controller, I boxed up my entire Playstation system and plan to sell it all.

I just had a PS3 die on me and I figured it was due to heat. So I looked extensively for a cooling fan that was reliable and easy to install. I discovered this one, the Intercooler TS by Nyko.

The cooler was a very simple to attach to the PS3. All you do is snap it to the back and that's it. Very simple. Most of the gripes I read about other coolers were about installation problems. You will not have this problem with this cooler.

Another positive about this cooler is that it runs on its own power source. No using limitied USB slots (depending on your PS3 system) to power the device. The fans run automatically depending on the temperature of the Playstation so you don't have to manually shut the cooler off. Big plus!

There are four fans that cool off the system. I have my PS3 located in an entertainment center. Before I installed the fans, you could feel the heat radiating from the system. Now, it's cooler. You still feel the heat coming from the top (when standing up), but you can feel cooler air coming from the back.

Now for the negatives. The fans are LOUD!!! Even on low they are significantly loud. Just so there is no confusion: The fans turn on and off automatically, but they don't adjust in the same fashion (another negative I'll get to in a minute). When set at the highest setting they are annoyingly loud. Playing a game or movie at a high volume drains the noise out a bit but it is still noticable.

Now for the adjustment nob; I thought it was a bit of an annoyance that the fans turn on and off automatically, but the fan speeds don't adjust in the same way. You have to do that on your own. It makes me a bit uneasy because I keep wondering do I have the fans up high enough to avoid overheating the Playstation. I don't want to keep the fans on high constantly because I feel it will wear the intercooler down faster. That's just me.

Overall I think the Intercooler TS works well. If you are having overheating issues with your Playstation 3, or you store it in a confined entertainment center, you seriously want to consider buying this device. Of all the devices on the market, I thought this was the better buy.

The Intercooler is a the perfect way to ensure that your PS3 stays cool during long game play or if your PS3 is in a poor/less desirable area which limits air.

Let's begin by saying that I don't live in the U.S.

I thought I needed this because I have my PS3 located in a small entertainment center and I decided to give it a try. The design is really nice and the installation is pretty easy, but man this thing is extremely loud, nevermind the design and installation you will forget them pretty soon after you listen to this thing, and to make things even worst, after a couple of weeks what began as a really anoying BUZZZ now has turned into a CHAINSAW, so the best advice I can give you is to stay away from this cooler.

I'm sure that you can cover the noise if you turn the volume up but if a you are a late night player like me this is out of the question.

I don't really use to criticize products and I really wanted to like this but the best thing you can do is keep looking for another solution if you think you need a cooler for your PS3.

I got this on a weekend travel so I can't give it back.

You simply cannot afford not to own this Nyko Intercooler. I purchased my 60 Gig PS3 just over a year ago. It was used but had pretty low miles on it. I think it's previous owner played movies on it more than play games because there were only a couple of trophies in it's memory.

Of course it has had much use over the past year because it is just so much fun to play, and there are so many awesome games worth playing on it.

2 months ago it died! (THE PS3, THAT IS!)

I found a very reputable local source to repair it. I did not want to send it to SONY and have it's memory erased. It cost $90.00 to replace the laser. Not to expensive given the going repair prices from other sources.

Then a month later it died again. The guy who fixed it stands by his work and also gives a warranty on all work done. This time though it was the drive that died. My repair person told me the first time it died that i should get a NYKO INTERCOOLER to prevent the unit from not only overheating but to lengthen the life expectancy of my PS3. He mentioned to me when i picked the unit up from being repaired that he had never actually replaced a whole drive unit, and was amazed to see that the wires were just fried. It cost me $50.00 for a drive replacement.

As soon as i left his place i came home and immediately ordered the Intercooler based on his recommendation. He said it was the best. One of the things that make this Intercooler better than it's predecessor is that it has it's own power supply cord, (a 10 foot long one), so it does not steal power from the PS3. I did some research before purchasing it and came to the conclusion that the other fans on the market that plug into the USB port, simply are not powerful enough. The variable speed control is a nice touch also, but i just crank mine. Depending on where you live, or if you have central air conditioning, you can make the adjustments based on how warm your system is running.

My wife thinks the Intercooler runs a little loud, but i think it is fine. I do not really play my games on loud volume, but do find that now i turn them up a little bit to drown out the four fans on the Intercooler.

The bottom line is that repair costs for a PS3 are not cheap. For far less money, you can own one of these Nyko Intercoolers and protect your investment.

Nyko Intercooler TS is noisy, feels cheaply made and the way it attaches to the ps3 isn't as secure as you hope it is. The intercooler also makes unplugging an Ethernet cord from the ps3 a chore without removing the entire fan setup.

However, it does move a large amount of air out of the ps3 and will indeed keep your ps3 cooler for a little over $20 dollars.

Turn it on when your on an extended gaming session with a headset rocking and you won't hear it....Turn it off when your watching a movie or all you will hear during movie dialogue will be "WWRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

OK, let's start by mentioning that there are TWO versions of this DVD. There is a DVD-ROM version which requires Windows 95/98 to run, and there is THIS version (called DVD-VIDEO) which does NOT require a computer to run. Both versions are manufactured by Digital Leisure.

Here is the scoop on both versions...

DVD-ROM version:

-Requires Windows 95/98 to run. (I don't know if it will work with Windows 2000 or Windows Me)

-Has smoother game play. From what I have heard from other people, the game play on this version is practically flawless.

-I don't think that this version has the "watch" feature, which lets you view the entire animation without actually playing the game.



DVD-VIDEO Version:

-Does NOT require a computer to run.

-When I use this on my Sony DVD player that is hooked to my TV, the game play is painful. There are 2-3 second gaps between moves that makes the game almost unbearable. However, when I play this on my computer's DVD drive, the game play is quite good. There are still gaps between moves, but only about 1/4 of a second or so.

-Has a "watch" feature that lets you view the entire animation without playing it. This is very cool!

-Works on MOST DVD players, except some Toshiba models.



WHY I BOUGHT THIS VERSION:

Even though the game play is better on the DVD-ROM version, I decided to buy the DVD-VIDEO version for a couple of reasons...

-The "watch" feature was important to me. I wanted the ability to just sit back and take in the whole beautiful animation without having to do shoot, left, left, shoot, etc.

-I wanted this purchase to last. In other words, I didn't want to be forced to buy a new version of this product when I switch my computer system over to Windows 2000 (or whatever Bill Gates comes up with next).



ABOUT THE ACTUAL GAME:

What can I say??? This game is an arcade classic, and a personal all-time favorite of mine. The images on the DVD look EXACTLY like they did in the arcade. I can not tell any difference. It is awesome, and I love it!!!

Back in the 80's Space Ace was a game for people to get in line because it was a lot of fun. Space Ace has been in every format, and now after almost 20 years from its release we can enjoy it in our house with our DVD's. There is a little pause between every move to the game but that will vary from player to player. There is also a "watch" option that lets you relax and watch the hole game without playing it. A great Classic. Don Bluth made a great game.

If you plunked a lot of quarters into the old Dragon's Lair or Space Ace arcade games then give this game a shot. The graphics and move sequences of Space Ace DVD-ROM emulate the arcade game almost perfectly. The only shortcomings of this game are that the "good move", "bad move" sounds are missing. Also, the timing of some of the moves is slightly off in some areas, which means that you have to make your move a split second before the "danger" appears.

Other than that, it's like having a "Space Ace" arcade game on your computer!

If you have never heard of or played "Space Ace" however, then I don't really recommend it. By today's standards, it is not that great of a game. I bought it largely as a nostalgia item.

To say that I am a Space Ace fan is an understatement. Back in the 80s, I don't know how many quarters I spent trying to discover the correct routes for every sequence (the only games I spent more money on was probably the first few versions of Street Fighter II). I became someone who can consistently complete the game on one quarter (on Cadet level anyway). Everytime I played at the local arcade, I always drew a crowd watching as I took command of Ace to rescue the fair Kimberly. Space Ace certainly has a special place in my heart.

So believe me when I say I tried many of the home conversions that became commercially available over the years, and was left sorely disappointed every time. Of the ones I remember, I tried Sega CD, Panasonic 3DO, PC, and the Philips CDI. Graphic quality of these were usually horrendous. The timing of the moves were completely different from the arcade, and some were just straight up wrong. Some versions did not even include every sequence. The best conversion thus far was probably the CDI version (which I tried at a store demo), but even that was not perfect, and I'm not about to buy a machine costing $300+ at the time just for Space Ace.

When I found out about Space Ace HD on amazon, I had to try it. I've been jaded by all the conversions thus far so I didn't entirely have high hopes, but the very affordable price, the promise of HD, and the generally positive reviews here made it too enticing.

I am happy to report that this is the Space Ace that we have been waiting for! Graphic quality is excellent! Keep in mind that this was done in the 80s so there's only so much they can do, but on my 1080p 46-inch set, the video quality is really sharp. I played thru the entire game on Ace difficulty, and the timing of the inputs is just as I remembered from the arcade. Every sequence is intact. There is both a widescreen and standard video mode. A visual guide setting is available to help with timing. All 3 difficulties are present. If you just want to watch the whole thing in one sitting, there's a watch mode. I'm not really an audiophile so can't comment in this area, but it seemed pretty good to me.

And just in case you read some earlier reviews here, I had no problems on my PS3. And the thing about the lack of Kimberly's "get me out of here" on Ace and Captain modes, that's how it was in the arcade. It is only available on Cadet mode (as it should be), and the watch mode.

So what you you waiting for? If you're reading this, Space Ace must mean something to you, so buy it now! You will not regret it.

Incredible conversion and bug free despite some reviews. check sound output is linear on your PS3 and enjoy the 5.1 surround mix on your biggest 1080p screen.

Cannot wait for DL2 to go on blu-ray as Dig Leisure have really gone the extra mile in perfecting this product. Obviously there is no future plan to convert DL3 as that product was a severe embarrasment of the past and was nothing more than a pathetic recording of somebody playing DL3D.

But as for DL1 DL2 and space ace you would have to be brain dead not to snatch these titles up while they last. Simply the most superb interactive movie computer games ever created and have been for over 25 years for those gamers too young to recall their massive impact. My package from Amazon arrived here in Australia just 4 days after paying for them which completely stunned me.
