If you don't have a 60 GB PS3, you'll definitely have problems fitting this fan into it's proper position. The fan plugs into the fourth USB slot on the 60 GB, and you'll hear a soft click once it's locked into place. My PS3 is already making a lot less noise which is great, since I want to keep it for as long as possible. Please know that this fan can't completely save your old PS3's life; that comes from caring for it properly which includes, but is not limited to: keeping it clean, getting rid of dusty build-up (using the air in a can thing) and leaving it in a well-ventilated area. But the fan helps, it really does. And for the price? It's a steal.

I bought this for my overheating 40gb PS3. It makes a HUGE difference. The back of the system used to get super hot after about an hour of playing anything. But with this on it takes up to 3 hours or more! It's fantastic. I highly recommend getting this. It's worth the money.

The only problem is that it takes up 1 usb port.......but I don't use them except when I'm charging my controller so it's no big deal.

Anyways, buy this. You will not be dissatisfied.

I bought this on May 2nd so far so good . I bought it because i just had my ps3 fixed (i got the ylod)and i wanted something that would help keep it cool. It came as a package deal with the lighted vertical stand. So i thought it was a real good idea to kill two birds with one stone. You are supposed to keep the old ps3's vertical to vent the heat better. Anyway the fan is really hard to snap on to the system. They should have designed the clip better. Once I got the fan installed I noticed the fan works pretty good it circulates more cooler air into the ps3.

I thought this would fit all older generation PS3's but didnt realize that the original original PS3 had 4 USB ports in the front. My PS3 only has 2 therefore this intercooler will not fit. It fits into the USB port fine and draws power but there is not attachment points on the front panel to the connectors on the intercooler for a tigher fit. It basically just snaps into the USB port and that's how its being secured. Hopes this helps someone else. This will definitely not fit the new slim model I believe.

It does seem to keep the PS3 alittle cooler though I don't like the insecure fit.

If you have an older fat, 4 usb port PS3 this will fit perfectly. It plugs into the 4th slot on the right and snaps right on and stays on. If you don't have 4 usb ports, don't bother.

I've repaired my old PS3 5 times now. But with real backward compatibility (EE chip) 4 usb ports and media card support, I just keep repairing it. I sat a regular fan in back of it not realizing I was just blowing the hot air back on it. It died pretty quickly that way so I started searching for other solutions and found this device.

It's smaller than I expected for a four fan unit. Since it fits perfectly it has a nice aesthetic. It has a red light on the bottom, on off switch and a substitute usb port on the front. Of course on the front is PIII turbo fan. Hehe. Would've added a nice touch to actually say PS3 but oh well. But I admit it is much better than I expected for a $8 product that was made in China.

It's quieter than I expected. It's not noisy but that is not to say it doesn't make noise. It's four fans and has an ambiance you would expect from four fans going. But I didn't find it audibly intrusive.

The big question is does it cool. I've been letting the PS3 run for about an hour now and the PS3 does run cooler with it. I'd say it's acceptably warm. Will it fix the problem permanently? Probably not, but we shall see. I'll update if the PS3 happens to die again, which without the fan and with moderate use, takes about 4-6 months. So if lasts longer than that, I figure I got my money's worth.

Well 3 months later and still going strong. The PS3 is continuing to run noticeably cooler. It hasn't overheated at all. The fans are very quiet. Noise I thought was coming from the fans initially was actually coming from the PS3 itself. But gone is that fan noise that makes the PS3 sound like a jet about to take off. When I heard that I knew it wouldn't be long before it died again. So, so far so good, very happy with this purchase.

UPDATE Jan. 4, 2012

The PS3 died. Which unfortunately makes this purchase useless as it didn't even extend the life of the PS3 past what it usually is without the fan. I still stand by my initial review however, it does keep the PS3 cool through extended play. But that does not solve the design issue with the YOLD. So it appears I have to take apart the PS3 and reflow the motherboard indefinitely. Sucks but eh those are the breaks.
