I just got this game and after playing for a couple of hours I can say that Need for Speed Series is back on track. I was around for the original Need for Speed and Hot Persuit series, those were so much fun, if they could oly bring those back.

ProStreet and Carbon were complete disasters, extreamly disapointing, I had to stop playing after my first time.... this one is at least 4 times better than the lader.

The graphics are crisp, but many daytime sceens look washed on my HDTV, I thought something was wrog with my TV. lol. But that's how the game is. But that aside, gameplay is designed for super highspeed, the stearing ratio is tight, meaning that if you just tap the controler, you'll hit a wall, but at high speeds, you need that tight streaing ratio. The cops aren;t that dumb like some say, they don't stop chasing you.... I got caught.

Some say the frame rate gets choppy, I have't seen that yet.

Overall gamplay and the fun factor are high.. the game is fast paced, not like the last 2 games that were out. I would say if you a NFS fan, this is the one to get.

EDIT: This game is better than I describe, I haven't been able to stop playing.. The cops caught me many times, and it's true that with the first car it's easy to beat the challenges, but the challenges get harder, where you need to upgrade your car and buy power add on's as well to win.... Frame rate is fine, absolutly no freezing..Great Game, I think the folks bashing this game, don't actually own it!

This game is one of the worrst in NFS series, Ive never felf so disapointed with an NFS game, 1st is extremely short, then the driving is so unrealistic, the story is boring, the only good point i can mention in the engine's sound of every car is almost like the real ones. But apart from that this game is a waste of time, I felt like I was plating on my old PS2 and not in a PS3. Luckily i found somebody that wanted to try it so I traded it for GRID, wich despite is almost a year older it's a much better game.

I just beat the game. Here is my word of warning to those considering this game.

This game goes from fun to busywork in less than an hour. Allow me to list some pros and cons, and then rant a bit.

Pros:

-Free roaming was a good idea

-being chased by the cops was fun (the first 5 or so times)

-decent amount of cars to choose from

cons:

-AI totally ridiculous, we're talking other drivers slamming into you at 150+mph causing you to lose your 1st place position after holding it for over 4 minutes. At the same time, if you try to hit them, you spin out.

-glitches, loading problems, loading times, and game freezes. those all happened way too regularly. When you get to driving past 200mph, the game starts to have trouble loading the road.

I also had the game freeze up on me at least 5 times.

-game detail is really lacking, looks rushed.

-tuning and upgrade options really weird. your driver levels up, which affects the stats of the car you drive. but you can also fix up your car.

-story was horrible. Acting just as bad

-too many cut scenes.

The ONLY reason I played this game, was because I was a fan of the previous NFS games (starting from porsche unleashed, underground 1 & 2, most wanted, etc), and that it had trophies.(well ok, it was mainly for the trophies)

This game is definitely lacking compared to those other games in the NFS franchise. The story (if you even pay attention) was plain, and felt like it bit off of "Fast and the Furious". The game was also frustrating due to the fact that I didn't know what races were necessary to progress through the story. Whenever there was a cutscene, I had to sit through a horribly acted scene. gameplay was frustrating in the fact that cars felt like they belonged in the burnout games. AI was too aggressive, and bystanding cars steered into your way as you're traveling down at 200+mph.

ARGH. don't buy this game.

don't even play it. Yuck. I would not recommend this game to ANYONE.

thank you for reading, hope it helped.

if you want a racing game for ps3, I highly recommend Gran Turismo 5, if you own an xbox 360, Forza 3 easily beats NFS undercover.

please please please for the love of God, don't touch this game!

Nice to have a non-track NFS on the PS3. But it's still only kinda open world-ed. There really is no point to explore since you can jump straight to each race or shop by pressing the down button or accessing the GPS. It's weird that the GPS doesn't guide you around town like in previous titles. Cut scenes are over the top cheesy. Upgrading cars is simpler. No more brand names like HKS and Turbonetics to upgrade the same part. Sometimes it seems like the racing is too fast for the PS3 to draw in the road ahead. Confusion and crashes follow. Everything can get pretty repetitive but there are so many racing modes that it breaks it up a little.

I was extremely hesitant on purchasing this title with my great disappointment with their franchise and the "Pro-Street" title in the series. After some research, I found that the franchise went back to what they were good at and created an enjoyable experience for anyone looking for an arcade racing game.

What makes this game so enjoyable is the variety of events. Story Races (to move the story forward), Circuit races (laps), checkpoint races (beat the clock), take the lead (stay ahead of other driver for specific period of time), damage to state (destroy police cars and enviornment), outrun (lose the cops).... just to name a few.

If you are expecting true physics and accuracy in handling of a vehicle, this game is not for you. Thats not what NFS is about. As a matter a fact, its not entirely about racing. A huge draw of this game is messing with the police, causing damage and getting away.

There is an open enviornment here, however, there is not much point to it, unless you want to cruise around or increase your wanted level outside of a race/mission. As a mattar of fact, you could complete the entire game without doing free roam a single time. A click of the button will pull up the map and you can simply click on the next event you would like to play (this is an improvement over the last burnout, where you had to drive to every single event, however this game should not be compared to burnout as it is a different experience altogether.

There is also a story line... somewhere... in the background, but it will be easy to forget while playing. The only time you'll remember youre in a story is when the cut scenes come up.

The vehicles themselves are a big part of the game and in certain races/missions you will win pink slips when you win races. When racing (outside of the storyline) you also have the chance to improve the overall specs on all the vehicles in your garage by "dominating" the race which is usually figured out by the time it takes you to complete it. You also earn money which allows you to go to your garage and add improvements to specific vehicles including horsepower, torque, handling, grip and even paint and decals.

The graphics are ok and at times the game will "hang" for a second in the middle of a race which generally isnt detrimental, but can be distracting.

I struggle between a 3 star rating and a 4 star rating for this game, as its not necissarily a ground breaking game or something you MUST BUY NOW. However the game is quite addictive which steers me more towards a 4 star.

Ultimatly the choice is yours and I hope this review helps with your decision.
