This game is a classic point and click style video game. Being a gamer in his mid 30's it brings me back to a time when a lot of point and click style adventure games were coming out on the PC.

Point and click translates perfectly on the PS3.

I enjoyed the game a lot, matching DNA sequences, figuring out what substances were in the chem analyzer by figuring out what markers are part of the sample, running prints based off a few reference points and matching them to evidence. I enjoyed all this.

I'm also a CSI fan and this game totally "gets" the feel of the CSI series.

Some of the dialog is a bit drawn out but you can skip any dialog you dont want to hear....i wouldn't suggest rushing though sometimes the dialog gives you hints as to what is next, although it will show up on your PDA too (your in-game cell phone/organizer)

I would gladly buy a CSI2 or a few expansion packs with more cases.

This would be my fourth CSI game so far (I've played all three on DS and the one on PS2) and I'm now pretty much hooked on the game series. Funnily enough, though, I'm still not, nor have I ever been, a fan of the show. In fact, I haven't even seen a single episode of the TV show (although I'm sure it's lovely), so expect this review to judge the game on its own merits and not on it's relationship to the TV show. Anyway, all the previous CSI games have been pretty similar so far, so I'm sure I'm in for a good experience...

Graphics (score 6/10): I can't tell you if the character models really resemble the people they are supposed to be since I've never seen the show, but it turns out that it may not be terribly important... The character models in general look pretty bad for a PS3 game I wouldn't say they were exactly PS2 level, but their darn close to looking that dated. The background environments aren't terribly impressive either. Thankfully, the game is still plenty enjoyable as there is nothing wrong with the graphics that hinders gameplay itself, despite aesthetics.

Music (score 7/10): The music is mostly ambient it's there, but you probably won't really notice it much. As it is, it's pleasant enough and serves it's purpose of keeping the game from being boringly silent. The voice acting is okay not the best I've heard, but okay. I've only noticed one possible audio glitch: occasionally it seems like some of the voices get oddly quiet for no reason. I don't know if it's a glitch or not, but it could be...

Characters (score 7/10): Well, this game doesn't have much by way of characterization. You play as a completely nameless faceless new member of the CSI team (you are never seen and the other characters just speak directly at the screen when talking to "you"), so the playable character isn't really a "character" in the traditional sense. As for the actual characters modeled on cast members, they are present in the game. I'm not sure how bland/interesting the characters' personalities from the show are, but they are pretty bland here. That's what I've come to expect, though; this series is really more focused on the gameplay of immersing you in the world of CSI than it is on characterization (I assume that the game developer's expect you to have previous knowledge about the characters from the TV show).

Story (score 8/10): After having played so many CSI games, I've come to expect the story to be just there enough to keep one interested in solving the case, but nothing more (this certainly isn't Phoenix Wright we're dealing with here...). For the most part, this game falls in line with that expectation. I did notice though, that there is a bit more of a plot thread tying all the cases together (the drug overlord plot thread) than in previous games. After so many games where the cases were pretty unrelated, it's nice to see some kind of overarching story arc present. In fact, I'd say out of all the CSI games I've played, this one has the best story!

Gameplay (score 7/10): This is a bit of a catch-all category for me. First off, I'd like to talk about the nearly useless "tutorial" descriptions that you can turn on and off. When I first started the game, I turned the tutorial on thinking that it would be helpful. Well, that really wasn't the case. The tutorial always tells you (in a really irritating over-chipper voice) the most inane and obvious things ("the evidence button selects evidence" yeah, thanks for that.). Sadly, I had a true moment of confusion at the beginning of the game when I didn't realize that you could select multiple chemical scans to match your chemical sample, but the tutorial never bothers to tell you that! I think I'll be switching that tutorial off. It's really only helpful to someone with absolutely no experience with the CSI game series and possibly no experience with video games in general. As for the actual gameplay, it's fairly straightforward point-and-click type stuff: talking to people, searching crime scenes, and running tests in the lab. For the most part the point-and-click interface works fine, although I wish the pointer moved a tad faster. Oh well, better too slow than too fast anyway... As for the lab gameplay, it's mostly matching colored shapes and line patterns and stuff in order to do DNA tests and whatnot. None of it is too difficult. I rather like this game series because it tends to be very forgiving in the difficulty, and sometimes I need a bit of relaxation in my life. The game is especially kind in giving you checkmarks when you've found all the clues in an area or finished everything that can be done with an item (usually, I've noticed the checks are wrong a couple times). This prevents needless wandering and backtracking. There is also a lovely hint system that you can turn onto "low", "medium", or "high" that basically consists of Catherine sending you emails to give you reminders on what to do next. That's rather nice. Well, that's about it for gameplay. There is one last thing I'd like to talk about: product placement. I don't normally mind product placement because I understand that companies need funding and stuff. It just bugs me when it's so intrusive. The darn Trend Micro antivirus thing scans the computers at the beginning of each new case before you can use them in the data lab to no point or purpose. I mean, there's product placement that doesn't hurt anyone (such as all the Asus branded PCs present which I didn't mind at all), and then there's annoying and intrusive. Well, at least it didn't pop up ALL the time...

Overall (score 7/10): NOTE this score is not an average; it's my subjective overall score. Well, I enjoyed this one just as much as the other CSI games I've played (with the exception of CSI: Dark Motives, which is considerably worse). I'd recommend it to fans of the show or the game series, or fans of point and click adventure games in general (if you like crime investigation sort of games). I must warn people though, that just because this entry is on the PS3 does not mean it's any longer than any of the DS entries. In fact, it's about 20 hours long, so don't spend an excessive amount of money on it. Well, that's about it. I look forward to future CSI games!

Got this because my wife like CSI but not the PS3 and she would play this with me. Its not a bad game, my wife who doesn't play video games enjoyed it and it was something we did together.

PROS: 5 Stories and it takes some time to gather clues. Plots are decent and are like the show.

CONS: The first 2 stories are OK but it gets to be the same thing over and over again. Gets very repetitive after a while. For a PS3 game the graphics leave a lot to be desired. Could've been a little more imaginative with graphics and clues.

Buy the game if you like the show, if you're not a fan of the show, there are definitely better role playing games.
