By now all of the back and fourth between "This game is epic!" and "This game is epic fail!" is probably giving those of you who are considering Lair a few headaches. A lot of press reviewers hate it, a lot of user reviewers love it, the creator of Bioshock defended it and there are mixed reviews abroad. The controversy is mainly around the controls/gameplay so that will be my focus, primarily sticking to the technical details. I picked up this game on clearance at a local retailer since they had it on clearance and I will do my best to collect the facts together from my experiences since simply yet another opinion might not be too helpful at this point.

First and foremost, as action oriented as this game is, it is NOT for the impatient. The title does not lend itself well to anyone who feels it shouldn't be necessary to put effort into liking a game. I'll explain in a bit.

Julian Eggebrecht (the game's Director) mentioned in an interview with G4 that, unlike Factor 5's previous games, the dragon you fly has real weight and physics attached to the flight simulations thanks to the PS3's super-de-duper Cell processor. They wanted banking to "feel heavy" when using the Sixaxis controller as your dragon's fat rump flings through the air across your screen. What this means is that the beast is not ever going to turn on a dime, even if your Sixaxis will. Needless to say, turning an intense action game into a fantasy flight simulator pushes up the learning curve considerably, let alone adding an extra level of skill required to line up even the simplest of shots.

Motion Control:

How the Sixaxis flight controls actually function is more absolute than relative. If you want your dragon to fly straight, you hold the controller level and if you want to pull up, you tilt the controller up. While this sounds pretty straightforward on the surface, what often throws me off is the "absolute" nature of this. If you want to keep pulling up, you have to keep the controller held vertically and if you want to hold a nose dive you have to hold the face of the controller away from you for as long as you want to hold the dive. If they were to make this more like other flight-sims, tilting the controller up would control the rate-of-change rather than the absolute angle. Having played a handful joystick flight-sims I found myself leveling out the controller at times I wanted to hold my incline or descent, but ended up leveling out myself instead. Horizontal banking is a bit more intuitive even with its absolute nature so long as you do not mind the massive delay for your overweight, infantry munching dragon to respond to the Sixaxis' orientation.

Before the patch, there were a couple of waggle functions I did not particularly like at all. Thrusting the controller forward would effectively be a speed boost. Quickly lifting the controller upward would do a midair 180. The problem is the game only understood my gestures three out of four times and every once in a while it would confuse which gesture I was trying to perform. Also, there is a full second delay after you perform the gesture before the dragon performs the action. Having motion controls for these also disturbs your flight control for obvious reasons.

After the patch, they bound those two waggle functions to D-Pad Left for 180 and D-Pad Right for boost (those buttons were previously unassigned). I find these to be much more responsive and predictable. The motion for 180 remains, but they took out motion control for boost to avoid any input confusion.

Analog Control:

I have played with the motion controls for quite a bit (I do not want to say "extensively") before that 245MB Lair patch landed on PSN. So how does the analog controls compare to the default Sixaxis? Let's just say that after toying with the analog mode in a previously played mission to get a feel for it, I jumped straight into the Hard flight course and beat my previous best time by 30 seconds. While the dragon still maneuvers like a starving whale, I had a MUCH easier time actually flying *through* the rings. Thinking "maybe I'm just getting used to the physics of the game" I went back and did the course again with the sixaxis. Try as I might, I could not even beat my previous best let alone come anywhere near what I did with the analog.

The kicker for me was that I actually know what the extremities are on the analog stick because I know how the analog stick works. With the sixaxis I kind of have to pick an angle and just kind of hope my dragon does what I want it to do in due time. If you're patient, the tilt controls can be fun, but if you've watched the "mastering the beast" video on Amazon page for this very product, I would say those developers were drinking the kool aid if they honestly felt they could remove the analog controls from the game when the Sixaxis was introduced to them by Sony.

In the same interview with Eggebrecht that I've mentioned earlier, the Director felt that the controversy was that gamers were more or less set in their ways because novices liked the tilt controls and the core gamers didn't. I think the real story here is that the novice gamers don't really know what they were missing and were just stoked that they could control a dragon by moving a controller around. While I do feel the sixaxis control in Lair could be improved, it doesn't really end there.

Targeting:

Any target that enters your dragon's direct line of sight gets a subtle white glow on it, hitting R1 or L1 will lock on and the glow will turn red to indicate as such. While locked-on your camera will always face the target regardless of which way you are flying, though you will generally orbit any target you are locked on to. Your dragon will autoaim on anything with the white glow without having to lock on which is extremely handy.

The quirk here is that there are a LOT of any potential targets on any given battlefield and it's very easy to switch to an unwanted target the very second you hit the shoulder button. Advisably, you should only lock on to standouts like objectives, turrets or the tougher dragons you wish to execute take downs on. Trying to target everything you strike will give seizures to players with even the mightiest constitution.

The patch added an option to turn on Crosshairs which produces a Starfox style reticle. I highly suggest using this because it instantly cleared up how the heck the game was picking its targets as well as having the sixaxis control actually make some degree of sense.

If you think that's a lot to forgive, it is. There is an enjoyable game to be found here, but like I said, it'll require patience.. even at half the price. If you think these quirks are minor enough for you to give it a try, well.. there's more.

Missions:

Without giving too much away, various missions do offer variety, but most of them will have you fending off several fronts at once without a good way at letting you know which forces need to be prioritized, so it is largely a game of trial and error the first run through.

There is an arrow that vaguely points to the direction of your current objective and it only appears if the game thinks you are ridiculously lost. If you are anywhere near the action (often when you need it most) the arrow vanishes. Just... keep your eyes wide open and watch where you're going.

While the replay value of this game is much higher than what you might expect, the first run through will drive you nuts. When diving into a new level with a billion things going on, it's very easy to lose your bearings. The moment you are about to figure out where you are in relation to the action, the game interrupts with a cutscene, introducing a new threat and throwing you off. Once you recover from that, you'll get hit with another cutscene. Then they'll do it again. Even in the earlier missions they cutscene the crap out of you. I LIKE cutscenes, but even I think Lair pushes it to the point of silliness. Of course once you actually played through a mission once or twice, you know where the triggers are and where the threats are and that's the point the game becomes enjoyable.. if you can get past the controls.

I give Lair three out of five stars. It is not without issues and I believe they could have made the game much more accessible than they did, it is not a complete disaster. It's a game. Think about the functionality I've described and see if you can picture it fitting your play style. If your primary game is action-simulation, flying or driving, with a strong desire to burninate, you'll likely find something to enjoy here. If you're all about the first person shooter with lightning quick reflexes, steer clear.

Before playing Lair I read some scathing reviews on it, and of course the main criticism for the game is the controls. I've heard they are unresponsive, tortorous, sluggish, and many other names from critics, and regular gamers. Still after reading these reviews, I still wanted to play the game. I had a feeling that some of the people playing this game didn't take the time to learn the controls, and gave up on it, saying the game was poorly designed.Well I just recently got a PS3 and Lair was amongst the first games I bought, and after playing through and beating the game, I couldn't disagree with those people more.

Story: I'm not going to go too much into the story, involving the warring nations of Asylia and the Mokai, except to say I was impressed with what was there. It's not complex, but is very interesting and told very well through some great FMV cutscenes between levels. I really didn't think there would be a lot of story, figuring it would be like a typical action game, but I was wrong. Again, nothing complex, but better than your average action game. It's even emotional at times.

Graphics: The graphics in the game look really good. Mostly the colors are earthen, using a lot of browns, blacks, and greys, but they are still well done. Lots of details on the dragons of course, but also the other creatures like the giant manta bombers or huge warbeasts. The levels themselves all look great. As you fly past towers in the cities you will see decorative markings on them. The water isn't the best looking water I've seen, but it still looks nice, especially when the sun is reflecting on it. Fire effects look great of course, as well as explosions which look awesome.

Sound: The sound in the game is fantastic, from the voice acting, the screech of the dragons, explosions, and soldiers screaming as they catch on fire or are chomped on, all sound great. The music is good. Damn good. Like the story, I was shocked by how great the music was. In my opinion it would fit well into the Lord of the Rings trilogy. When I first started the game and went to the main menu, I stopped when I heard the music and sat there and listened to it before starting the game. It is that good.

Controls: A lot of bad things have been said about the controls. In my experience they work almost like a dream. Yes they do feel weird at first, but there are tutorials to help you out. The movement of the dragon in the air is entirely Sixaxis based motion controls that is supposed to simulate you using the reins of a dragon. Tilt the controller up, the dragon goes up, tilt down and she (the dragons you ride are female) goes down. Left and right the same. Flick up and the dragon does a cool 180 degree turn, flick down and she gets a burst of speed. Jerk the controller to the right or left and she does a dodge move in that direction. Square button shoots the fireballs, hold it down to shoot a stream, useful for taking out dozens of ground troops at once. Tapping the X button makes the dragon go faster, L1 or R1 is your lock on button, L2 or R2 is your brake button, and pressing those both together will make you hover, or land if you are near the ground. On the ground the left stick moves your dragon, circle makes her swipe, square again handles the fire, and pressing the triangle makes the dragon chomp on a soldier. Keep holding the triangle button down and the soldier gets devoured, replenishing your energy. The controls sound complex, but I really think with practice you can get used to them. I thought they were so good that I didn't even bother with the tutorials, after the second mission I was pretty comfortable with them, dodging fireballs left and right, tracking and taking down dragons. Sometimes the controls did some things I didn't want them to, like doing a speed dash instead of the 180, but these were few and far between, and never caused me to die or fail a mission. Overall I loved the controls, and think a lot of people just didn't take the time to learn them.

Gameplay: The game is very short, and can be beat over a weekend, but none of it is filler, and is all quality. Each mission is a little different and range from epic battles, escorting and protecting, a jail break, a somewhat stealth mission that had you avoiding spot lights, plus the occasional boss battle. Each mission has a variety of objectives, from protecting manta bombers, taking out a certain number of ground troops, destroying ballista emplacements, and just straight up dog fights, er, dragon fights.

Before playing the game I thought this would be a basic flying game, but again, I was wrong. Yes there are a lot of air battles, but you will be doing more. Landing on the ground and roasting, eating or swiping back ground troops never gets old. Sometimes when doing this the game will go into slow mo, and you will see the troops and armor pieces flying back from you strike. One particular moment, which I will never ever forget, that happened while I was engaging the troops on the ground was when I set dozens of them on fire, then knocking more down with my swipes,I finally had my dragon bite down on a lone soldier who somehow survived my previous slaughter. When I bit down on him, the game went into slow mo, the soldier writhing in pain screaming as blood spewed forth, and all around me the buring corpses of my foes, then my dragon swallowed him whole armor and all. It was a fantastic moment.

There will be times where you will actually get into a fist fight,or claw fight while in the air, with another dragon. When this happen you have different moves, you can breath fire on your opponent, swipe them with your claws, and bite them. You also get some combo moves. Like the swiping feeding move where your dragon swipes the other dragon, and bites the rider. Use this as the killing blow and you get a lot of energy back.

Another cool thing are the takedown moves. These are God of War style button pressing action sequences. These allow you to take down an enemy dragon or boss in a spectactular fasion. There are a variety of these scenes and they are very impressive. There are some boss fights, but not many. They are pretty good though, especially with the giant sea serpent, and I do mean giant.

To help fight your enemies, you have two types of lock on functions. A soft lock on, when the game automatically locks on to your opponent, which is shown by a white halo, and a hard lock on which happens when you press the lock on button. When this happens the halo turns red, and the game kind of takes over flying for you,and you just have to shoot at whatever it is that you are locked on to. With the soft lock on, which I mostly relied on, the fireballs you shoot home in on the target, making it easy to hit other dragons or gun emplacements. I had hardly any trouble with zeroing in on my targets. Like the controls the targeting takes some practice to get used to, but I thought it worked really well.

Cons: Now on to the bad stuff. Most people's problems stem from the controls. Mine is the waypoint system. There is no radar map to guide you around, only an arrow pointing you to your next objective which sounds good, but trust me, it's not as helpful as other games waypoint systems. Here is an example. In one mission you have to take out three generators to destroy some spot lights. The game points you toward the objective, and when you are near the objective, the arrow will vanish, signalling you that you are there. Now, there are no highlights on the generators, and trust me when I say that the generators in Lair don't look like normal generators. It took me a while to figure out what the generators looked like before I could destroy them. This happened a lot throughout the missions, the game telling you what you needed to do, but not properly highlighting your objective. It wasn't too major, and other gamers may not have a problem with it, but I sure did. Its made all the worse when you have multiple objectives. Like one mission where you had to destroy enemy ground troops on a slope, destroy the enemy ships, and take out other dragons. All of this can happen all at once, and you have to figure out what is the most dangerous threat. Again, nothing that can't be dealt with, but still annoying. That was my biggest problem with the game, but it still didn't detract from my enjoyment.

Well I hope this review was helpful. You'll notice that there are times where I said "I was wrong" about something. That is because this game kept shattering my expectations. It does so much that in my opinion it can't be called a simple flight game. I really really loved this game. I was excited while playing and it never felt dull or boring. Occasionally frustraing, but what game isn't? I think the game is vastly underrated and undeserving of the critical bashing it has taken. This is one of the most unique, fun, and refreshing games I have ever played and I will defend it if I ever get into a conversation about it. I'm sorry if my review was too long, and for any grammatical errors I made. I'm not the best speller, and even worse at punctuating, but hopefully I made it easy enough to understand, and hopefully help you in your decision on whether or not you will play this game. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.

I have read a LOT of negative reviews of this game, and was worried that it would end up being a big disappointment for me. I have looked forward to it ever since I first heard of it almost a year ago. Many have said that the motion sensor controls are "horrible", "abysmal", "torturous" etc. If you want a game to just open up and begin to fully enjoy without any practice, you had better look elsewhere. However, if you don't mind going to the practice area to hone your skills, you will enjoy this game. I find that the motion sense controls add a certain freedom of movement that you can't get using the thumbsticks. Yes, it did take me a little while to get used to, and I had to go to the training section to practice certain skills, but each time I play, I get better and better at controlling my dragon. If you want to get the gold medals, you will find yourself replaying each mission, hopefully improving with each repeat. But if you just want to play the game, then you can just play right through the entire story. Perhaps the designers might have considered that some people just don't like the motion control, and therefore should have offered the user to decide which controls to use. If you are unsure of whether or not you will like these controls, I would suggest renting before buying. However, if you are like me and have been waiting for a good game to come out on the PS3 that makes full use of the motion sensor capabilities, then I would suggest giving Lair a try. I will say that the one thing that I found a little annoying was that just when I was starting to enjoy myself fighting on the ground, it was time for me to return to the air to continue my mission. So, while Lair is not a perfect game, I do think that it is not the colossal failure that some reviewers have made it out to be. It is a truly beautiful game to play with a great story and gorgeous music. All in all, I'm a very happy dragon rider!!!

I love dragons. I love video games. Put the two together and I am in absolute heaven.

Or so I thought.

After waiting with baited breath for the arrival of LAIR in my local game store, my bf and I brought it home and popped it into our PS3 only to find out....the controls are damned difficult.

At first I thought it was simply him having issues mastering the sixaxis controls, as I'd spent some time previously playing "Flow" where the only controls are via the controller's sixaxis sensors. But when I got my hands on the controller finally and tried it out myself it was difficult, sluggish, and overall very frustrating. So much so that I believe we tried to play this game for 2 hours between the two of us and we haven't put it back in since. It felt like a lot of money to spend on a game that was difficult to maneuver through. (As an aside we're both experienced, veteran gamers. We've had plenty of chances to sample challenging game play AND poor character controls. This game features the latter.)

The game would definitely benefit from giving the players the ability to choose between either using the sixaxis controls or going with the old standbys, your LS and RS on the game controller. WarHawk was designed this way and there has been plenty of time wasted in our house on that game because we could choose between the two.

I do want to give the game props for being visually stunning to play, as well as having a few interesting features. Being able to slam in to the enemy by jerking the sixaxis controller was, although difficult to accomplish, an interesting way to attack them. It definitely made you feel as if you were more in to the story that way. Being blown all over the practice map was irritating but did give you an idea of just how harsh the conditions were that you were dealing with in that world.

If they ever do run the rumored patch to allow you to control the dragon with the joysticks instead of the sixaxis, I will absolutely pick the game back up to play it. Running the practice course was very fun and could only be improved with greater ability to handle your mount. With that one correction I would easily restore the other two stars to this review.

I enjoy shooters and action games where precision is key; however, sometimes you need a rest from the clichés of those genres: Lair provides just that. Although many have criticized the motion control scheme, Lair uses it to great effect. From the second you pick up the controller and start turning it, the dragon will immediately react. You get the feeling that you're piloting a massive beast. Last time I checked, dragons aren't considered high-precision military aircraft, so I don't understand why people are complaining that the dragons in this game don't turn on a dime. The levels are epic in scale, so the design has taken this fact into account. Lair has insane production values, and the music, sound effects, graphics, etc. will blow you away. The lock-on system certainly isn't perfect, but I've played games with far worse implementations of this mechanic. In short, Lair is a unique and pleasant departure from the shooter-heavy lineup of this holiday season and the foreseeable future. Just realize this game isn't for everyone. Some people would rather stay on the ground.

I'm using this with Rockband 2 and it's so close to being great. The guitar is small-ish, about the same size a the official Rockband guitar.

Here's a quick summary:

PRO's:

* No setup: Just plug in the USB receiver, turn on the guitar and they automatically link.

* The USB receiver in in the shape of the axe blade. How cool is that?

* The buttons (all of them!) are responsive and have a nice feel. They look good too.

* Overall build is solid. Very well made for the price. The guitar screams QUALITY! None of its parts, down to the USB receiver, look or feel cheap.

* I actually play better and have more fun.

CON's:

* The neck is too small for adult's hand, smaller than Rockand 2 guitar's neck. I don't have big hands and the guitar's neck still feels tiny.

========

I also own RB 1, RB2 and Nyko guitars. The Gene Simmons Axe is hands down THE COOLEST and is the one I'm most comfortable playing with right now. My wish is they would make a full size version for adult's hand. I would definitely pay extra to get it!

One important note: the strap comes off easily unless you really work it into the button's groove when you first put it on. Just make sure you use your fingernail or something flat to press the strap's "button hole" into the silver button's groove located on top of the axe blade.

The Good:

The guitar really looks cool.

Button response is superior to all other guitar controllers I've used.

The Bad:

The guitar feels thin and cheap, especially the neck.

The neck is too long and feels akward.

On other guitar controllers the buttons start on the first fret. On the axe the buttons start on the second fret. You may not think this is such a big deal until you actually start to play it. When I play the green button my hand automatically goes to the first fret which makes sense but there is no button on the first fret so now I'm off by one fret which causes me to miss a bunch of the following notes until I can realign my finger to the proper button.

The strap button closest to the neck will not hold the strap for very long. I've had the strap come off many times while playing which is very frustrating.

The Gene Simmons Axe is a cool idea but it seemed to be poorly designed.

I will keep mine and used it when playing the bass tracks on Guitar Hero and Rock band but it will not be my main 'axe' for guitar tracks and solos.

the guitar is well built. it has some weight to it so it doesnt feel flimsy. I think the buttons are the best i have tried(rockband and ace flying v as comparisons) the buttons are curved and the part of the button closest to the edge of the fingerboard are tapered so it takes very little effort to press. the strum lever is not noisey like some other clickers if have seen and more importantly heard.

Minusesi dont care for the position of the whammy bar and i prefer a toggle effects switch in place of the slide switch-and it isnt very useful in the place they put it

aside from that? This is a quality instrument that is priced a tad high but made up for in its quality.

for the person who said its a leftyit isntyou go by the strum hand so this is a righty guitar

I've had this guitar for 3 months exactly as of today...today it died for good. The wammy bar broke on it a week ago (imagine all the points I lost cause of that). And today it just stopped working. To be honest, it never worked that good with Guitar Hero Metallica to begin with. Seemed fine with Aerosmith though...maybe it was just already dying when I started playing GH:Metallica...who knows. It's a pile of junk. Guess I should have just stuck with the cheapo GH one.

Quality built guitar with great response time for the ps3. Did I mention the size. WoW! It looks like a full size guitar when my 8 year old holds it. For GH and Kiss fans , this is a must.

I must say that I was quite skeptical of ordering this headset. I read many reviews about this set(mostly positive) and decided to order them through Amazon. Having played with this headset for a couple of weeks now I must say that I am very pleased. I have owned the P11's, as well as Tritton AX720's(good sound but uncomfortable) and Turlte Beach Delta's(good sound but wireless interference) in the past and the DP11's are easily my favorite. Comfortable and the sound quality is outstanding for the price. It does take some finagling with the DSS setting to get the sound to your personal liking. Setup was very easy. Only took about 5 minutes and I was off and running. The negatives reviews that I have read about this particular headset was those who heard "buzzing" or "humming" from the DSS unit into the headset. I have had no such issue with this.

All in all this is an outstanding headset. I recommend it to anyone who may be considering purchasing it.

I've also got a turtle beach x12 which are amazing but for my pc and I decided to purchase a gaming headset for my ps3. These two headsets are very similar in specs but since this pack comes with the dss2 , I get much better sound quality. I don't play my games with out these I love them. Definitely recommend this to any looking for a high end but cheap headset.

Overall this product is good but there will always be a flaw because of our nature.

The Good: Light Weight, Microphone is clear or at least what my team says, separate volume control for game and chat, equalizer and speaker positioning.

The Bad: It feels cheap because of the plastic build.

The Built: mostly made out of plastic and yes it feels cheap. The whole weight will rest on the top of your head and the cup doesn't hug your ears.

Sound Quality – With the digital output the sound is better and with its mini amplifier/enhancer the sound is more beefy. Wired also means that the sound is more constant compared to wireless that can be interfered. I usually play MW3 and yes footsteps are louder but so does the other sound. You still have to know the map and how the floor should sound when someone is stepping on it or else it will be hard to distinguish footsteps from the other sounds.

Volume rocker: it has game and chat volume control. It also has the mic mute sliding on/off switch.

Mini Enhancer: Equalizer, speaker positioning, surround, main volume knob and on/off switch. The only gripe on this one is that you wouldn't know what preset are you on in the Equalizer and positioning because you just cycle through the settings. I don't think it remembers the last setting you are on if you turn off PS3 or the headset.

The Verdict – The feel of the headset is cheap and it's mostly made out of plastic but the sound quality is very good. For the price you are mainly paying for the DSS2 attachment that can amplify any headphones (well it seems like it). I would recommend this headset because my average score improved and microphone wouldn't kill the ears of your teammates.

Have had this headset for about a week, after returning the P11 after the left ear went out. This headset is actually alot better due to the DSS2, the optical cable I feel increases the quailty in the headset and makes for an overall better sound. Would recommend this to anyone on a budget looking for a good headset!

I was a little iffy about getting these, at first I was just going to buy the head phones without the processor since it was half off. But I liked the fact that you don't have to run cables to your TV with these since they include the optical cable everything is only connected to the PlayStation. My first impression was simply wow! I could hear things that my TV speakers simply didn't produce! The mic is also super clear. I wear these things for hours and don't even feel them on. Get of the fence and buy these I promise you will not be disappointed. Oh yeah and watching movies with them is amazing too :p

The wheel is ok if you are not totally dedicated to the racing games, otherwise it lacks the precision necessary to feel connected to the game. For example the gas pedal has so much back pressure on it, that it is impossible to run (at a steady pace) the posted speed on pit road. On the track where precision is less important both the steering and pedals work fine. I am using it on my PC with older EA Sports NASCAR games (just for fun) and it is ok, but for the guy truly dedicated to the games there are better options. As of now I have not managed to get it to work on my PS-3 but I will keep trying. Give it 2 1/2 stars.

I am a corporate trainer and I purchased this to run with a driving simulator (not a game) for the company I work for. I'd give the quality and construction about 7.5 out of 10, which is pretty good. It worked flawlessly and effortlessly with the simulator, so in that respect it gets a 10. I would recommend.

lots of trouble installing and the provided booklet has very little information. Contacted customer service many times and don't get any good answers to questions, just a general runaround. It's as if they don't have the foggiest idea about this product and don't care to be helpful. My advice....BUY A DIFFERENT PRODUCT!

Let me start by saying that this is the real deal. Especially if it's made by an electronic drum company who knows what good quality is. The drum kit itself is very sturdy and is 30 lbs mostly metal parts. Nothing is cheap on here for sure.

-Pros-

Rubber material

Great rebound

Registers 99% of hits

Consists mostly of metal material

Customization with the pads

Pedal is loose making it easier to hit the double bass notes

Pedal is made mostly of metal

Great design

Pad is bigger than the regular

The pad sounds cool when you hit it haha

-Cons-

putting the drum kit together is somewhat confusing

Lots of wires but once you wrap it around the bar, you'll be fine.

-Things to improve-

Make it wireless

-Conclusion-

It's a good investment for only $200 dollars. Probably how much you're going to end up paying if you stick with the regular ones which will break

eventually.(yes I have 3. 2 of which are broken)I highly recommend this drum kit if you are an expert

rock band player. If you have any questions about the drum kit, just leave a comment on this review.

I bought this set to sort of celebrate the release of Rock Band 3 a week ago, but was disappointed in what I found. I hooked them up to play Rock Band 2 and was instantly underwhelmed at the response and sensitivity of the pads. My RB1 stock set with silencers is much more quiet and responsive, even when I re-calibrated. The pedal, as many know, is loud and clunky, also inferior to the steel plated RB 2 stock pedal. One big reason I wanted the Ions was to expand to double bass. I have a Destroyer pedal and was eager to hook it up, only to find that the jacks in the Ion module are NOT sized for headphone-like inputs. The ports on the module are probably twice as big plus there is no port for a double pedal. I come to find out I'd have to pay for the cost of a second roadie pedal along with a coupler if I wanted the double bass capability, and after sinking $200 into the set already, going a step further seemed rediculous. Yes, I realize there is a cap out there so you can plug the Destroyer into the Ion module, but it would still mean only one pedal at a time. Simply put, this did not live up to the hype and I just got back from the UPS where I shipped the set back to the vendor AMS, who were very nice and understanding and also were good on the initial shipping time, so I would at least recommend them. If you're a novice at the drums and have the money then by all means buy these, but any serious player worth their salt can get by just fine on a stock set, and I warn you to either save your money or buy some $2,000+ set of modded Roland v-drums or something like that.

This is about all there is without going BIG budget if you want to rock a little harder than the stock fake drums that go with Rockband. Overall I like it. Quieter than stock kit, more realistic. DON'T BUY ION cymbals, buy Pinntec cymbals. The Ions are crap, they are loud and the break and are just cheaply made. Don't expect much from the pedal either, it is cheap too, I bought a Rock Pedal. I am not impressed with the "brain" either... i have had 2 and when I use 3 cymbals the blue cymbal causes green hits occasionally which is obviously not good for maintaining a streak. But, what else ya gonna buy?

Want PS3 Audio Drum Rocker Core Rock Band 2 Drum Set without Cymbals Discount?

After we literally beat our original RockBand Drum set to pieces, I was pleased to find a more solid looking option. The box was reassuringly hefty on receipt.

Setup was pretty straightforward, although maybe a little more complex than most tweens are used to with about 20 pieces that need identifying, wiring and attaching.

The disappointment started when we set up our first song, the drums started working right away but failed with a connection error about 75% of the way through the song. This happened 3 more times...and when we started trouble shooting with a few different versions of Rock Band (2 and 3) even with a solo drummer...the same failures happened again.

On further investigation, there are numerous poor reviews of this product on line, so our experience is not unique.

Not Recommended.

This was a great deal when you consider the price for everything you get in the bundle. The game by itself is pretty cheap and I would consider it a solid buy for 20.00 or less if you don't need the Move Bundle. I have an 11 year old and a 16 year old and my wife and I had a blast playing this new years eve with them. My only wish would be for maybe 3 or 4 more mini games. The ones that it does have are very fun and you have the option to choose them individually to play or in a group of 5 or more where the game chooses which challenges you will face. There are separate difficulty settings for each player so it makes it very competitive regardless of skill. Also of note is hard as we tried the PS eye will not take a picture nearly as clear for your on screen avatar as you see on the box. Not a big deal though. Most the time we grabbed a stuffed animal or a picture or the dog and created a funny avatar. Yes it also records your voice and repeats whatever you call yourself when its your turn. Overall a great purchase!!

i was really excited about this game. i somehow got the impression there were free hunts at some point. i found out the free hunts have the same lame timer as all the other hunts. the only difference is you get to hunt as many as you can in the time. however the timer is a joke, it runs out so fast you practically have to run through the brush like a stampeding rhino to get to the next herd. this makes all the interesting tracking options invalid and unuseable. the graphics are nice i love the enviornments and the really cool atv, BUT having a timer so unrealistic you cant enjoy any of the features.

the logs and such that provide cover are kinda cool but you can only approach them from one side. this means you can sneak up on the herd and come up to the cover press X (for prone) and actually lie down behind the log with your back to the herd. and while you are prone you have a small window left to right to aim, so you cant target anything to the sides.

i like the spoting points and the overhead planning views, the only problem is if the herd gets spooked they run off and the game still gives you the prompts and views as if they were still there.

the gun buying/modding feature is kinda interesting but really kinda pointless. its only useful to unlock a new gun type but really whats the point in making us unlock a gun type if you only get points for using the guns they want you to anyway.

i love the voice actor for this guy, it just has to be adam west, if not hes dead on identical. he cracks me up every time he talks, which i guess says something about the game when youre spending more time agreeing with mayor west than tracking a target.

love the graphics, great enviornments, like the vehicles, good scopes, like the vitals highlights on the targets, cool voice actor......... unrealistic timer ruins it all.

This game was purchased for me as a gift. At first I was apprehensive as I thought it would be climbing up a tree and sitting in a (deer) stand and waiting for hours for an animal. I was delightfully surprised to learn that was not the case. This game is a lot of fun and not difficult for the non-hunter to play. I have spent hours playing this game. If you want a break from reality and hunt in different states and countries with excellent graphics and scenery then this game is an excellent choice. I would have liked for there to have been more career hunting levels as it was somewhat easy to beat the game. Still fun and I would recommend this game.

This is a great game with great graphics, and if you shoot in the right spot it will go into slow motion until it hits a Big Game. But one down fall if you have a gun it works but the aim is way off, when you shoot high you got to bring the gun's aim above your device or the TV to make it work. There is no adjustments in the game to make it right on. But either then that overall if you like hunting this is a great game to start out and learn about hunting or just a refresher....

My family actually bought this bundle solely to have a spare guitar, and this was the coolest guitar available. However, the first one that arrived had a sticking strum bar. I did some research, and it appears that there have been a number of people who had the same issue with various GH guitars. There's a replacement strum bar available online for $7, but I was within my 30 day purchase period, so took it back. The second guitar works perfectly.

If you've ever owned the MH3rd Portable on PSP, you'll love the HD update ported to the PS3. Digitally remastered, the graphics look crisp, fresh, and visually stimulating.

For those that've tried tri or unite, here are some new features that shouldn't be overlooked:

1. customization of felyne companions' equipment

2. guild hall has a felyne kitchen, now called a hot spring, can be upgraded by clearing hot spring quests (put in some serious work)

3. hunting fields in tri are included in this title

4. mountain stream new field

5. hunts are finally easier due to the fact that monster attacks are divided between player and companion

6. tons of new creatures

I've put in nearly 150 hours into this game and am still playing. It's in Japanese, but on PSP, there is an english patch to turn the entire game to english.

Don't import this game unless you have:

1. A good understanding of the Japanese language.

-or-

2. Play a lot (100 hours+) of Monster Hunter games.

I have spent over around 800 hours playing monster hunter games in the last 6 years, and still want to play more. This game is available on the psp, and if you have a "hacked" psp, fans have released a mostly translated version. Unfortunately, due to Sony and or/Capcom dropping the ball, we may never see an official English release of this title. My wife bought me this PS3 version for Christmas. This game is the same as the psp game with higher resolution graphics for an HDTV, you can even transfer your save data between your ps3 and psp. Another cool thing about it is that it comes with the Japanese version ofAdHocParty on the disc. This program has voice chat while you play! With this program on your ps3, you can play this game, and the psp version with anyone else using the Japanese AdHocParty. You can even play the psp version, and the ps3 version together online! There are specific rooms online for English players, so if your a big monster hunter fan, and the language barrier is stopping you from playing this game, I hope to chat with you soon!

*It seems your ps3 must be connected to the internet with a cable for AdHocParty to work. Because AdHocParty needs the wireless connection to be available for a psp to connect. This is ok because if you want to play this game online, your going to need really solid internet to play with people in Japan anyway.

Buy Capcom Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. for PS3 Now

I have been meaning to buy this game since its release, but decided to give it sometime and wait for an English release. It has been a little over a year since the PSP release, and there has not yet been any progress towards an english release. This PS3 version was released in August 25, 2011. About 8 months from today (March 15, 2012). I decided to wait a bit for an English Release of this PS3 version, but recently decided i was done waiting (I have been waiting for 16 months for an English release of the PSP version, but there has been no announcement of it being translated). So i decided to buy this game, even tho i have NO experience of the Japanese language. The only monster hunter game i have played is Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP). With 0 japanese knowledge, about 100 hours of monster hunter play, and this being my FIRST game i have ever imported, I figured id be screwed if i bought this game. However, That was not the case. After playing the game for 10 minutes, i realized its basically a clone of MHFU, except it has more customization options for your Felynes, and a other improvements. The menus function the same way as MHFU, except for a few which had more or less option. The only trouble im having is figuring out the equipment information and what is needed to make it. Basically making equipment. After walking around town, i started a mission with my usual weapon (didn't even bother to go to the training school). Once i entered the map, just looking at the screen, the controls from MHFU came back to me, and i instantly started doing my favorite combos and such. The first monster i fought died easily. It felt like i was playing MHFU, but with different monsters, different maps, and a lot more Badass (1080P XD). This game supports 480P, 720P, 1080i, 1080P & 3D TV's..Wish I had one :(

Things to know...

1) This game supports online, but you MUST have a wired conection (Ethernet Cable) to play online. You also must make a Japanese PSN account to download the Ad Hoc Party utility (Free) needed to play online. You can play this game online on any account, but you must make a Japanese PSN account to download the utility. Up to 4 hunters may embark on a single mission together, and whatever you receive/complete/do Online saves to your Offline account (Also supports voice chat). For instruction on making a Japanese PSN account and downloading the Utility, I recommend you go to Youtube and search "How to play MHP3rd HD online"

2) If you need help in translating Menus/Materials/Items/Quests/Text, I would recommend you go to google and search "MHP3rd Translation" (Even tho the translations are for the PSP version, this game is a digitally remastered version for the PS3, so all the gameplay is the same as well as the Text)

3) In U.S.A, the X button is usually to Accept/Yes/Proceed, while the O button is to Cancel/No/Back. In Japan however, its backwards. X is to Cancel/No/Back, while O is to Accept/Yes/Proceed. This will be confusing at first -.but you'll get the hang of it soon.

My ratings...

Menu Ease = 8/10

Graphics = 10/10

Controls = 10/10

Online = 10/10

--------

OVERALL = 10/10 for a Must Have game ;)

my friend did not know any japanese, he remembered the feel of the game all from playing the previous monster hunger games

All those who patiently waited for the proverbial bottom to fall on the PS3 price, this must be 'it'. At $299 for a PS3, 2 games and a $10 gift card, it's unlikely that it's going to get any better than this, at least this year.

Those who don't find these specific two games appealing should be aware that other BLACK FRIDAY BUNDLES, packing different games are available from other merchants [on Nov. 27]. Check the comment to this review for information on who offers these] bundles.

One thing to keep in mind is that all the other non-Amazon merchants are likely to charge you sales tax right away and, possibly, shipping so, money-wise, Amazon's deal is by far the best probably $30-40 less than everyone else's so, even if you don't want the 2 games in Amazon's bundle, you could still order this from Amazon and possibly sell the games later and buy what you really want.

Killzone 2 is considered as one of the best FPS this year and also one of the best PS3 exclusives. I know most people are currently playing MW2 (including me), but this game can't be missed by any FPS' fans. PS3 slim has almost similar features with the "phat" version, except Linux (That's all I can recalled). Still no backwards feature, so just get $99 PS2 if you want to play PS2 games. It is a very good thing that this controller is only around $6, because it is a complete rip off.

I'll start with the good though:

-The buttons are all very smooth

-All the PS3 Controller accessories I got for it fit perfectly (trigger extensions and Keypad)

-It can be run on a PC immediately without needing to install any 3rd party drivers.

The bad:

It claims to be a PS3 off-brand controller lacking only the Sixaxis motion control. But in reality, it is lacking pretty much everything.

-It has no motion control like it says

-It also has no rumble

-It has no pressure sensitivity in the triggers

-It has no internal chargeable battery or Bluetooth.

-Both the joysticks and the triggers have a -massivedeadzone of about 15-20% (meaning you have to move them beyond that threshold for it to register)

-The joysticks have extremely low accuracy. It was one thing when I was having a complete mess of a time trying to use the joystick to control the cursor, but even moving the character through 8 directions in a game was a mess. As an example, I could move the joystick up and about 35-40 degrees to the right, and the character would still be moving straight forward.

-The R3/L3 (Joystick) buttons are unbelievably loud; pressing them is like popping the tin lid on a jar.

-It is spectacularly frail and shoddy. It feels sturdy, but after about a week, like others have said, one of the joysticks has simply started to weaken and lose it's center. It now occasionally drifts off to the side without touching it.

The shipping was incredibly fast, which I was very pleased with, so you can understand how excited I was when I opened up the box. So I plugged it into my computer, set it up to play Call of Duty 4, and it worked great! Though after about five minutes of using it, the mouse started drifting all the way to the left. I tried using a different cable (I just so happened to have the same type of cable it came with), tried using a different USB port, and even tried using a different configuration program, but all of my attempts at trying to make it work were futile. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean you need to buy it. Invest you're money in a controller that's made by a well known company.

I am not certain if this is simply because I am using it on the PC and there are no specific drivers available for it so it just uses the HID compliant driver, or if this controller really does not have Dual Shock capabilities, but Windows 7 does not believe it does. That is the only thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars. Luckily, I could care less if the controllers shake in my hands when I play a game, so it is great for what I need. I bought two of these and they are solid, high-quality, and come with a long USB cable, so I do not have to sit right on top of my PC when playing. I do not have a PS3, so I cannot review how they work with that, but with Windows 7, the are fine.

Read Best Reviews of Game Controller for PC or PlayStation 3 (PS3) Here

This controller is excellent. When I first received it, yes I was amazed at the obvious knock off qualities but I didn't expect anything else when I purchased it. I bought this controller to play games on my PC, and works great on both my desktop and laptop PCs. Some games will recognize it right away, others (like Kingdoms of Amalur for example, which is very picky) need x360ce to get it to work because it wants the XBOX controller. You just have to get used to the XBOX button names is all (if you're used to the PS3 controller).

I have had no problems with the sticks not responding correctly or anything like that, it really works like a charm. The only time it gets a little weird is when you have to map keyboard buttons, which will usually be a little weird anyways. In comparison, I also bought the SteelSeries 3GC Dual Vibration PC Gaming Controller for 19.99 from Gamestop because I had a giftcard, which was broken out of package, and has been nothing BUT an uncooperative pain! THIS controller however, is an extremely pleasant surprise and I will be buying another as soon as I can. So if you buy this and it doesn't work, just don't give up so easily every game is different and there are some emulators out there that may help. Personally, I would give it a higher rating if I could, I am that impressed with its abilities!

UPDATE: It is now December 4, 2012 and the controller has worked well until this date when it ceased to be recognized by any of my computers. I have emailed the manufacturer to see about redeeming the Lifetime Warranty and will update when I get word on how to resolve the issue I apologize to anyone who was influenced by my review to purchase this item, as it was apparently too optimistically hasty. :( I will leave my previous review to show the error of my ways..

LAST UPDATE: Now December 9, the company Gator Crunch (listed as the manufacturer "Lifetime warranty For first 30 days contact Amazon directly for return/exchange, after 30 days contact Gator Crunch directly for warranty service") informed me that this seller (GyroTek) is selling "knockoffs" of their product. (A knockoff of a knockoff?? I don't know, whatever) Anyway, Amazon is taking care of my issue and will be giving me a refund since Gator Crunch claims that this is not their product and the selling of this item by GyroTek is fraudulent. I'm still confused, but happy I guess because the item is completely dead now, and I can choose not to buy another which I won't. Next time it will be Logitech or something this one worked fine for awhile, but I definitely want one that will work for longer than (almost)a month and a half.

Want Game Controller for PC or PlayStation 3 (PS3) Discount?

Alright, so I bought one of these mainly to replace my Logitech Rumblepad that I've had for years. I love the layout of Playstation's controllers because of the d-pad not being one circular piece. Anyway onto the review of this controller.

When I first opened it up, I noticed IMMEDIATELY that ALL the buttons, except for start and select, were extremely stiff. I figured hey its new...just gotta break it in. I played with this controller heavily all day and everything is still just as stiff. Not a huge gripe though as all buttons work.

The controller performed at an acceptable level for the games I was playing on PC (Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, some old emulators, etc). The controller feels very lightweight, almost like the original PS3 controllers. The usb cable it uses to plug into the PC and PS3 is about 6 feet long, so definitely a good length. There is no brand of any kind anywhere on this controller. Not even "Dualshock" like it shows in the picture. The only words I see is start, select, and the numbers above each light up square to tell you which controller you are (1, 2, 3, or 4). Overall for the PC, I would say performance is definitely acceptable, especially for how cheap this controller is. Also, I never had any vibration happen while playing on PC.

I decided to also try it out on my PS3. For great testing purposes, I decided to try out Call of Duty Black Ops. First I played with 9 bots on the easiest difficulty, then I played a match of zombies on kino der toten. Wow....this is where the controller is ugly. When you move the joysticks just a slight bit, nothing happens. You have to push about 20% in the direction you want to go before anything happens. Very easy to overdo it. Also noticed, while trying to sprint, that when the joystick is pushed all the way in any direction, you can't push down to click L3 or R3. This is a HUGE problem for games like Call of Duty where you sprint while moving. That, in combination with the dead zone on the joysticks, really makes it hard to like it for PS3. The controller DID vibrate while I was playing Call of Duty, so the function is in there somewhere, just don't expect strong vibrations like what Sony's controllers offer.

So, overall, I would NOT recommend buying this controller for PS3. Sure it does the job, but just barely. Maybe if you were playing a game like Littlebigplanet or an RPG or something like that then it wouldn't matter as much, but for precision, this controller is definitely lacking. Other than that, this thing is GREAT for what you pay for it. My total with shipping ended up being under $12 bucks! You just can't beat that. Oh yeah, one last thing. There is NO BATTERY in this controller, meaning that it ALWAYS has to be plugged in. I was hoping I could just sync it up with my PS3 and just charge it with my PC, but unfortunately that isn't the case.

I got tge dust cover for my PS3 slim, and it fits perfectly over the console.

Its made of thick material...kinda like a canvas material and covers the system completely to keep the dust etc. out of the system while not being used.

****NOTE****

The manufacturer DOES NOT sell the dust covers for a PS3 slim on Amazon.

I ordered mine through Amazon, but I emailed the manufacturer stating that I had a PS3 slim & not an Xbox360.They replied back stating that the dust covers they listed on Amazon.com are for the older "fatter" PS3's,but they do sell covers for the newer slims, and that theyd just go ahead and pull a slim cove from their stock & send it.

I did go to their actual online store, and sure enough, the PS3 slim covers were same priced as the PS3 Fat cover. They have covers for all sorts of systems & electronics.

I just want to be sure anyone else that orders a PS3 dust cover knows that the ones listed on Amazon are not for the Slim model....

If your looking for a perfect custom fit dust cover for your gaming console, then this is not the one you want however, dust covers in general are only suppose to fit around the device and that is exactly what this does. It is free standing and drops over your gaming console, and this is exactly the way I prefer, rather than a tight fit that can ruin the cover or scratch the finish of your device, (XBOX/PS3). I received the product on time and delivered by the post office USPS. It does the job because my house harbors dust and I don't want that in my XBOX. Although I dust every other day, this cover gives me peace of mind because we all know that when dust settles on electronics, the devices will run hotter and eventually overheat and malfunction. The seller is actually located in Colorado, and they make these covers for every device i.e. copiers, printers, gaming consoles. I am very happy with this 20 dollar investment that will protect my 300 dollar console! I gave it 5 stars as a dust cover not a game as it was asking me to rate.
