It's a shame that bad reviews regarding technical issues tend to derate this product in the eyes of the perspective buyer. I feel sorry for those with technical issues because this is a great game. I have a large gameroom, but the clear space around the circumference of the board is only a few feet. Not even enough to be considered 'safe'. Still, calibration was surprisingly quick and I was up and training in minutes.

WARNING: This game is physically challenging for overweight 40 year olds. But, I'm personally very happy about that because I am one. To be honest, 1st person shooters are doing nothing for my belly, so a bit of enjoyable exercise was welcome. Also, this isn't 'Tony Hawk's American Wasteland' = No storyline. The Gameplay involves getting through courses and going for high scores. Plenty to unlock. The presentation is lighthearted and fun with a strong Wii-like influence. There is quite a bit of live video commentary which only adds to the fun. The music is excellent like most Hawk games, 64 tracks!

IMPORTANT: I've read complaints about linearity and lack of freedom of gameplay and poor responsiveness. There are several modes of gameplay which exist to help players get used to the innovative controller. The board is responsive yet difficult to master. Give it a chance and step up to hardcore mode before judging. Free Skate is available for levels that have been unlocked. There are also several multi-player mode challenges similar to older Hawk games that can be played on one controller.

VERDICT: Fun! Buy this game if you are looking for good clean fun.

CAVEAT: Challenging! Avoid this game if physical activity is contraindicated.

I saw mostly negative reviews for RIDE. I was lucky too busy to try it nor any game back in then.

As a casual skater/boarder and serious gamer,

I enjoyed great original games like Tony hawk Pro skater, SSX, GTA3, Antigrav, GrandTourisumo, JetSetRadio Future, as well as Top Skater on arcade. They showed me new possibility of game and was FUN.

Some reviewers say Shred is not realistic and kiddy. They say SKATE is better. Fine. To me, controlling virtual board with finger is so 20th century and nothing new. No reason to spend my precious time for. Kinect and Move, I don't know if this they can do better job than what EyeToy and Wii already done.

Shred. So far I played 3hours, The board controller works well. Menu is well designed. Loading time is okay. I like graphics.

If you demand dirty street feel and reality, grab your board and leave home. I enjoy this virtually enhanced version of these sports. Well worth the price.

Run don't walk away from this game. Could not get the board to complete initial calibration. Instructions read "make sure there is four feet of clearence around the controller". However , the fine print on the Activision help site reads "It's possible that walls, people, or other entities are triggering the IR sensors on the sides of the board. Large metal objects such as filing cabinets can also cause this issue, even outside the four foot range. To prevent this issue, make sure that there are four feet of free space on all sides whenever playing. Ensure no large metal objects are nearby (within 10 feet.) If that doesn't resolve the issue please try a different set of batteries, and reattempt the calibration process." And "It's possible that walls, people, or other entities are triggering the IR sensors on the sides of the board. To prevent this issue, make sure that there are four feet of free space on all sides whenever playing and that there are no large metal objects nearby. Return to the main menu and select "Options", then select "Calibrate Board" and follow the onscreen instructions. Make sure to follow the steps exactly and hold the board in the calibrating positions for the amount of the time the video that is playing is telling you. During the initial IR sensor calibration process ensure that you are standing away from the board and that you are motionless. When it is time to calibrate each individual IR sensor you will then be asked to stand on the board and will be shown some positions on the board to hold. Ensure that your entire foot is covering the lens of the particular IR sensor you are instructed to cover. Also ensure the board is facing the right direction. The buttons on the board should be on the left side of the board. Cover the whole sensor for the full count. Tony Hawk will say "Got it" when the timer is finishing. Continue to hold that board position until the button prompt to continue appears. Stepping off of the board before that will cause an error even after Tony Hawk says "Got it". You do not need to press a button to continue to move on to the next step. The calibration video will move on to the next step on its own. If you still have issues with the calibration then try lowering the lights in the room. Sometimes bright lights can interfere with the IR sensors. If failure to calibrate persists, move the board over a few inches in any direction from the start point of the failed calibration. Repositioning the board from the start point has shown to help during calibration issues. If all else fails try a different set of batteries, and attempt to recalibrate the board." 1) moved ALL furniture out of the room, 2) replaced batteries, 3)closed the blinds in the room. NOTHING worked. I have prepared for a return and will update when my refund is received.

The lack of a test utility in the options doesn't help. I guess they never bothered to test this in different environments other than their offices, and in real world conditions which is why a high percentage of people have problems getting stuff to work. Note that they don't say you need huge floor space, bright lights and plain walls ANYWHERE on the packaging. This game doesn't work. I spent 2 days trying to get the board to calibrate. I never actually got the game past the second calibration, so i never got to play the game. I called Activision to get a RGA. Sent them the whole package telling them it was defective.

Have not heard back from Activision yet to what they are gonna do. Whether it be fixing the game/board controller they released.

How can they even sell this product? Stay away from anything made by Activision. It will frustate you to no end.

Also you cannot return this broken game once you open it. It is a joke. Activision sells a broken game. You buy the broken game, and you can't do anything about it other than just NOT BUYING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

*******update***** I ended up contacting Tony Hawk and Activision. They sent me a replacement and it works fine. Game is okay, perfect for a rainy day where you can't go outside to skate.... Tony Hawk's customer service is great, i spoke with his sister. They were very helpful and very sympathetic unlike Activision. I suspect that Activision just rushed these out the door. If you get a bad one, contact Tony Hawk at his website. They will take care of you.
