The kids enjoyed playing it the first couple of times, but now it is relegated to a dusty spot on the shelf. Unlike some of the Lego games (Batman, Indiana Jones) which they play constantly, Monsters vs Aliens is just another game.

My son hardly plays this game. He states that is boring but he looks the move better. If it wasnt for the movie he wouldnt try to get into the game.

The graphics are not very good and it is easy to finish. It does not have the roam around features of the better games.

My expectations for this game weren't all that high going in; even after hearing some online reviewers compare the platforming experience to Ratchet & Clank games. Suffice it to say that I was more than pleasantly surprised when I actually dug into what it had to offer.

Firstly, other reviews I've seen pretty much hit the nail on the head. This game really does take some of the R&C series' best platforming mechanics and make them feel fresh; often even improving upon them with the sheer amount of inventive variety each new stage presents as the game progresses. There are also a few more comparisons to be drawn from other franchises as well; going as far as incorporating themes from games as seemingly unrelated as oldschool Tony Hawk and even God Of War.

The game controls really well, offers a wide variety of hardcore challenges for the more serious platforming fanatic, and is continually switching up the gameplay. You'll move from character to character each time you complete a level; each with their own abilities and stage stylings. Ginormica's stages are a bit like an on-rail racer. The Missing Link is true to form beat-em-up platforming. And B.O.B.'s areas are more puzzle oriented than all others. You collect DNA points in order to purchase new abilities and challenge levels as you move through the game. All of these are positive things, as each character feels unique and manages to succeed. Stages are fun to replay, and you'll want to anyway for the sake of unlocking new goodies.

Monsters vs Aliens also looks very good. The on-screen action is relentless, and the camera angles are continually shifting; giving you that same sense of visual awe that the movie produces. It's also pretty amazing how the developers managed to fit their ideas in with the actual storyline of the film. The game is also insanely cheap at the moment, and offers up some ultra-fun trophy hunting/collecting. The boss battles all look and feel fantastic. The game is rather lengthy as well.

Two things I would warn any buyer of however: The game is not your average kids game. The difficulty can be pretty unforgiving unless you're pretty familiar with platformers in general. So please note that the training wheels most children's platforming games offer up are not present here. Teens and adults are more likely to love this game than small children will be. Children should be able to handle it most of the way through. But the challenge stages are clearly meant for an older generation of gamers.

Also please be warned that the two player co-op isn't what you might expect. The second player is always Dr. Cockroach. And all that player is able to do is move a reticle around on screen, collecting and shooting things, etc. This upset me at first, because I intended to play this with a friend and wasn't expecting uneven abilities. But we ended up loving it; simply switching the first player's controller back and forth whenever one of us was better suited to taking the lead on a particular stage. It's a lot like the two player function you'll see in the Mario Galaxy games, only slightly more involved and useful.

In short, this game deserves much more attention and praise than it's received. Much like Toy Story 3, this one doesn't disappoint and manages to never feel like a cheaply made game; aimed at making a quick buck. The developers really showed this one a great deal of attention. Admittedly, it took me about twenty minutes of gameplay to really get hooked. But this was mostly due to the game throwing you headfirst into the action and immediately switching characters; all with different controlling mechanics. But once I'd play a few stages with each character, I found that I more than liked this game. I couldn't put it down. So my advice is to pick this up if you have even the slightest interest in platformers at all. For this is an inexpensive winner, hands down.
