As a huge horror movie fan I really loved the concept of this game. I wanted nothing more than to absolutely fall in love with it. Unfortunately I did not. I do not regret the purchase because I did have $10 off, but it is definitely not a $50 title.
The general game play is a lot of fun. The special kills, especially are both violent and adorable. The levels are unfortunately rather repetitive. The graphics are kinda meh. I really wish they would have added more detail to the textures with it being 2010 and all. The AI is kind of hit or miss. I wish you could make use of stealth a little more, and walk fast without sprinting like most slashers.
I haven't tried the online yet, so I can't vouch either way for that aspect.
If it was a $30 game it would be worth it. It is fun to play while you have a little time to kill and don't want to get engrossed in an epic story.

I, for one, was looking forward to this game. However, as its release date drew near, there existed no gameplay videos or anything outside of some very cool looking execution trailers and a few video spoofs. The game sounded interesting this way but once I finally got my hands on it, I was insanely disappointed with what I saw. This game is an absolute mess. The framerate begins hiccuping if there's more than 1 bear anywhere around you (so good luck if you've got a small crowd that you're wanting to sneak up on). The controls feel very broken as well as I found myself fighting to get the camera view the way I wanted it more often than not. The game forces you to play the side-missions to unlock the rest of the story missions (if you really even wanna get into it...and you probably won't). All in all, this game seems like more time was spent making the cool looking trailers for it than actually being worked on. Do not pay over 10 dollars for this game. This should have just been an Xbox Live Arcade/Playstation Network release. It's insanely mediocre and nothing special in any way. When I first saw pictures of Naughty Bear, I was a little interested. A killer teddy bear? 'sounds like good dumb fun to me! Though at the same time, I noticed that very few details about gameplay were revealed, which was pretty smart on the developer's part, because it made more people buy the game without knowing about what they were getting into. After watching someone play Naughty Bear for 15 minutes, I knew this game sucked. Then, after playing it for a few hours myself, I can tell you that I haven't played a game this bad since Superman 64. Yeah, I used the S word there. Where Superman 64 was so bad that it was funny to watch, there's nothing redeeming about Naughty Bear unless you're that desperate for trophies.
What do I even say about the game's story? You're a gruff, tough bear who doesn't like anyone that lives around him. All his neighbors are these happy bears with high, squeaky voices that sound an awful lot like the Teletubbies, and for no real reason, it's up to you to beat the stuffing out of them. You'll use bats, machetes, and many other weapons [that all do the same thing] to terrorize the neighborhood while doing some forced stealth segments in an attempt to add some variety to the game. Level after level, you go around, beating up bears, raising your Naughty meter. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I know the most common comment for this game is that it should've been a downloadable game for 1/5 the price, but I have to agree with them. Whoever said that it was ok to release Naughty Bear as a full price, real game, is nuts.
So just how bad is the gameplay? Imagine a game where attack moves are unresponsive, the camera is constantly getting stuck behind walls and other objects, you just mash the attack button over and over, and you attack the same characters while the same grinding track plays in the background over and over. That's Naughty Bear. A game like this had a lot of potential, but after playing the final product, I can't even begin to think of how this could've been a good game. The bad-ness took out any good ideas in my head. There are some parts of the game that have some genuine thought put into them, like smashing a phone before a bear can call the cops, but it doesn't matter much because by the time you get to the phone, it's too late. You'll have fought the camera for at least 30 seconds, then positioned yourself just right so you can open a door or break open a window. That's rightyou have to be in just the right spot before the window asking if you want to open the door pops up. The weapons are all very basic, and while some kills did make me laugh a little, they could've been done better. I was too bothered by the over-use of 'Naughty' by the poorly voiced fake British narrator to be that into the game. Heck, I got sick of the word 'naughty' after 5 minutes.
The graphics aren't exactly pushing the ps3 to its limits. To tell you the truth, I could see this being done just fine on the ps2 or even the PSP. And yet, there's a lot of slowdown and frame issues with Naughty Bear. Why the heck does a game this basic have slowdown on the ps3? Character models and locations don't have much detail to begin with, so don't expect much from the visuals in any aspect. The audio's even worse, with that ungodly horrendous track that played over and over, the annoying bear voices and that narrator that should've ditched the accent.
I don't just hand out 1 star ratings for things. Usually, I can see some positive aspects in games, movies, or books that get nothing but bad reviews from others, and rate it appropriately. With Naughty Bear, there's no hope. I'll give it 2 stars for fun because it used the cool Deadly Creatures/X-Men Origins: Wolverine camera that would sometimes cut to the victim's point of view and show you popping up into view, taking them out mercilessly. That's always great, and I wish more [good] games would use it. As it is, there's no reason what so ever to buy this. Even if someone loans it to you, as is my case, I think you'll feel insulted more than anything.

I'm having sooo much fun with this game and here is why. I have heard so much negativity about this game and yet I have been playing it for months. I have heard that the narrator is annoying. I have heard that the game is repetitive. I have heard that this is the worst game of the year. I would like to provide feedback on all of the above and more. The entire game is divided into multiple episodes. Each episode has different chapters with different conditions that must be met to advance through the game. There is a narrator at the beginning of each episode that introduces the story of each episode. People have said he is annoying but, he has the same type of character flavor as the narrator in Little Big Planet. I kind of like him more. The premise of the game is you are a bear who has a bad attitude amongst a land of happy bears. Somehow, you feel bad for the bear because he is not invited to parties or gets tricked by the happy bears. So you must go around killing the bears or scaring them to the point that they kill themselves. You do this by hiding in places or breaking the bears appliances. Apparently, bears do not like to have appliances broken and when you do around breaking their turntables or breaking their bbq pits they must fix them immediately which gives you an open window for a Manhunt-style stealth kill. Some levels you have to hide and scare the bears to the point that they commit suicide. Some levels you have to stealth kill the bears. Some levels you have to kill the bears fast. The levels are diverse. Yes, they are log cabins in the woods. But, one level is Evil Dead themed where the Teddy Bears have a cooking party (they don't invite Naughty Bear) and they acciently start reading the book of the dead and zombie bears run amok. I honestly, have played games since 8-bit Nintendo and get bored with games very easily. But, I am having fun completing challenges and unlocking different outfits. There is this bear called the Unibear (which is a unicorned bear) that comes and smells a flower and then runs away before you can kill him. It is fun to try to kill him. I play games like Omikron, Manhunt, Dead Rising, GTA, Halo, Demon Souls to name a few. This game holds my attention. Yeah, this game is not as polished as those games or other top tier games. However, if you accept it for what it is then, it will make you laugh and it is fun to play with friends. Then, there is some downloadable content with a superhero, pirate, alien, vampire episode. Who knows what future downloadable content will come out next. The game challenges you to get high scores by changing up your methods in which you kill the bears and rewards you with diffent bear-themed outfits. Long story short I got my moneys worth on this one. I didn't trade it in at the game store like I often do. I am still playing it having fun with the downloadable content. Also, the game had a few technical glitches but, the PS3 downloadable patch helped correct many of them. This game effected my life in two ways. Whenever, I don't get invited to a party I wanted to go to. I just hear in my head "Poor Naughty Bear nobody wanted you to go to that party." and secondly, whenever my toaster breaks and I am too lazy to fix it; I just think about the excellent work ethic of those happy bears that whenever anything breaks they get right on it and fix it. This game is creative and hilarious. I read so many bad reviews from reliable sources I almost did not give this game a chance. I am sure glad that I gave this game a chance. I have practically fallen asleep or been playing games thinking "is this suppossed to be fun." Not this game I always have a blast. Now here is the flaw. The loading time reminds me of some racing titles where it takes forever to load like Modracers. Sometimes the framerate can be choppy too. The game did freeze on me a few times too. The patch fixes some of this. I'm just being honest. This game is no angel but, if you go into it with an open mind you might be surprised with how much fun you have. Last thing to mention, this game has a picture in a picture at the top of the screen that allows you to monitor bearing fixing stuff that you broke or bears calling the cops or bears trying to escape by car or boat or bears trying to free other bears from bear traps. You get the point some crazy stuff:)I remember the original manhunt being fun and rather gripping at times. When I saw Naughty Bear, what I expected was a cartoonish, parodic Manhunt: Teddy Chainsaw Massacre. What comes out is a awful tripe that masquerades as being a point-based scare game. You're the Naughty Bear, shunned by all the other bears. When you're birthday present is trashed, thats the last straw prior to your bear-induced rampage, and theres nothing to be done but de-bear the entire island. And thats the entirety of the plot pretty much.
An annoying English narrartor tries to give helpful overlays, but only serves as a counterpoint to this ridiculous setup. Graphics are repetitive and plain, with little to distinguish it from any contemporary. Gameplay is based on stealth, but the flows and pace is so off that the game is effectively a chase and trap before long in every stage. Gratuitous trophy challenges are added in as some sort of bait to keep people playing, but apart from being worth a few chuckles for some of the sights, you'll be through with this hunk of garbage in an hour.
