The detail on this faceplate is incredible! It has a few places where the paint has been "worn" off and the wood looks very natural. There's also a few paint drips and other things.

Before seeing this in person we were thrilled. Now we're blown away.

Great job by the designers.

When I first heard last year that F.E.A.R. 3 was on the making I couldn't wait for its release. I got the game the day it came out. That day I didn't do anything but play F.E.A.R. 3 the whole day (it was my day off from work). This game has non-stop action. The cover system is really cool, reminded me of Killzone 2's cover system and also how the guns on the floor shine so you can spot them. I had a lot of fun playing the campaign. But the one thing I felt it missed was the "horror" part. There were some parts of the game were I felt jumpy, but not scared like the first F.E.A.R. game made me feel. I wish the game would've been scarier to the point were I would have to sleep with the lights on. Other than that, awesome game.

I have to admit I'm a bit torn about the 3rd installment of FEAR, and I'm a big fan of the first two. I've just finished the single-player campaign as Point Man, but most of what I have to say will probably apply to co-op. I'll admit that I haven't played through as Fattel yet, so I concede that I have no idea what the game is like if you play as him.

On one hand, they've polished the gameplay to perfection. Character movement is smooth and feels natural, and target assist helps you spray bullets a little less than the first two required. The armored suit parts are fun (if a little short) and as with FEAR 2, help break up the pace. Creeping around enclosed environments is fun, but a good old fashioned blow everything up mech segment is a nice way to give yourself the occasional reset.

On the other hand, it's just not that interesting. You end up back in the city that got the "physic nuke" from Alma in the last game, and it's crawling with crazed people who've been whacked in the head by the Alma bomb. Sadly, unlike the interesting and weird soldiers and warped entities from the first two, the people in this one basically act like rabid zombies. So, most of the game feels like a mix of gunfights against conventional soldiers and a rabid axe-wielding zombie hunt. The weapons are less interesting, too, although the duel-wield, full-auto pistols are way cool and better than similar guns in any other game.

The scare factor goes way down, although unlike some critics, the Alma-pops-up-outta-nowhere-then-vanishes moments are always fun to me. But that's it. This isn't really creepy the way the first two were. And the enemy AI is almost TOO good. The level of difficulty is ramped way up, and you get mobbed by soldiers a lot more than before. Whereas in the first two you might find yourself facing a dozen enemies, it was almost always in an enclosed space like a large office or cellar, with plenty of opportunity to pick them off. Now they throw a dozen soldiers at you within an open plaza or yard that, yes, has plenty of cover opportunities; but you get flanked so quickly and often that cover doesn't do much good. Or, along with a dozen soldiers coming from all directions, they throw an enemy mech at you along with them. A shame, really, because the new cover system is simple and works well. And this game badly suffers from "alternate universe grenade syndrome." Yours suck, yet the constant hailstorm of enemy grenades (and they throw a LOT of grenades in this) are near-fatal.

To sum up, FEAR 3 plays like a missed opportunity. They did polish what needed polishing, but the stuff that made you say out loud "oh, cool!", like the ash people in the street in FEAR 2 that puffed away when you touched them, is completely absent. FEAR has become a by-the-numbers shooter with a good story and controls, but nothing worthwhile to add for atmosphere or enemies. And, for a FPS junkie like myself who's played dozens, it's, well, kinda hard! And I'm playing on "recruit." Barely surviving an overly-frantic gunfight really isn't as fun or satisfying as more moderately paced action. You finish, the screen a red haze, and just feel relieved that you made it, not satisfied that you did a good job.

I knew FEAR 2 would be hard to follow up, and I'm sad to say they failed to live up to it.

I have to admit it's not as scary as fear 2 but it will leave your heart pumping, one thing for sure is that this game has nonstop action.better graphics and more dynamic gameplay.the only thing I don't like is that its short.has like 8 chapters while fear 2 had like 15.but overall this game kicks ass

I have not played with on one player mode. I bought this because of the great reviews for split screen multiplayer. This game is so much fun. Highly recommended and AWESOME gameplay!!

Want F.E.A.R. 3 Discount?

The F.E.A.R. series is just great. For an industry that is flooded with games and overused plots, this one really stands on its own as unique and well thought out. Each of the three installments are quite different in game play but continue the same great story.

F.3.A.R. introduces many new aspects to the series. While the first installment, made by Sierra, was more horror driven and tasked with the need to introduce all of the characters that are built upon in the second and third titles, WB has changed the feel to more of a quick run-and-gun than slower horror-driven atmospheres. As the cover suggests, the two brothers are at the forefront of this game. The first time through single player you take control of Point Man. Upon successful completion of each interval the player unlocks the ability to replay as Fettel, the "evil" brother. This adds to the replay factor of the game. Also, along this line, the game introduces co-op multiplayer for the first time. While I have yet to try this it seems like a great way to extend the life of the game.

F.3.A.R. also introduces a slight bit of an RPG feel with the ability to level your character up. Throughout the game you will realize that different challenges will unlock points for your character. These points add up to new player levels and provide such benefits as extended slo-mo time, more life, the ability to carry more grenades, etc. This is nice, but really locks this game in as more of a FPS than a horror title.

This game is exceptionally gory. If you've played either of the first two games this should come as no surprise, but if you haven't be prepared. While there is an option to reduce the violence/gore, I haven't tried it and am unable to say how much is really censored.

In the end, this game is phenomenal. The story is well developed, the visuals are stunning, and the new features are worth checking out. Coupled with Amazon's great price this is a no-brainer for all dark FPS fans.

This game is great! There are going to be people who complain about everything, so, unless you feel like they do, you will enjoy this game! It is so fun! I have been playing since we got it. My brother, sister, and I play against each other and with each other. I love all the songs on it. This isn't my favorite game bar none, life changing, or perfect, but it's definitely the most bang for the buck of any game I've played this generation.

But if you're considering it, you need to understand: this is Gran Turismo. It's not like other games. For better or worse, they are not attempting to make it like other games or fundamentally change their formula. Many of Gran Turismo's fans over the past 15 years liked the game because there wasn't anything closer to their tastes, but today, there is more competition.

Do you want a Gran Turismo style game? If so, this is excellent. Do you instead want something that doesn't take many hours of work to open up? It's up to you.

Gran Turismo 5 is excellent, but there may be other games that are closer to what you actually want. Dirt's series is much easier to dive into and has plenty of graphics punch. Blur and other more arcadey games present cars you see on Top Gear or other TV shows, but with Mario Kart style action.

Gran Turismo presents a tremendous amount of content. Many cars, many tracks. With that content, you can painstakingly perfect your driving technique and develop tuning concepts while enjoying a very wide array of driving situations. The graphics, particularly the lighting, is superior to other games. Period. Forza presents the stiffest challenge, but is somewhat less realistic and has inferior graphics (at least 1-3... I have yet to play the new one) and levels of content. That said, Forza is a great game. Some will find it more fun. Some will wish it had that extra depth GT always brings.

GT has added 'levels' to this game, and you build experience when you do various things. You need a certain level in order to buy cars or drive in events. The licenses are there, but are totally optional. This is my primary gripe with GT. The licenses force one to learn proper technique. I think you'll have much more fun with the game if you do the licenses.

Otherwise: here's how to play. Buy a cheap car with your starter money. Race some easy races while upgrading the car. Race harder races and buy better cars, building your empire of cars and trophies. It's great fun.

GT5 has an A spec mode, where you do the driving, and a B spec mode, where one of your fleet of AIs do the driving. The AI is really good, in my opinion. They track stress and mental and physical fatigue and have differing levels of skills. And in B spec, you can tune the car and enjoy the amazing graphics.

GT5 has added Seasonal events, which you have to download from the internet (for free). This provides constant variety as you build a collection of cars from the three dealerships (premium new cars, standard used cars (Which inferior graphics, I should add), and online dealer.

The seasonals are essential to loving this game, as there are far fewer standard offline races than in GT4.

The audio in this game is a radical massive improvement. In most cases, it is obvious the audio is a real recording of the actual car. I can tell how many cylinders and the exhaust system, simply based on the car. A few times, I have heard a car passing me and realized what car it is, simply from having heard that car in real life. It is amazing, and you will love this game if you have a quality surround sound system. Even spectating is great, simply because the audio engrosses.

The graphics are ridiculously good. The standard cars look good (some look amazing and would be the best except they pale in comparison to the premiums). This game has crossed the threshold of graphics. It looks more realistic than real life. Watching the shadows of trees flicker over your leather dashboard, as you use cockpit view without any heads up, it is often impossible to tell this is a game rather than a video. The photo mode is also amazing, and you should check out gtplanet's photomode forum. You actually can learn a great deal about photography from this game.

For the money I paid, this game is a tremendous value. It's not perfect. In particular, the game is not evolving from the Gran Turismo formula, and some didn't want that game when they bought this. I did, and I'm thrilled.

This game suffers from a degree of fanboy mentality that has plagued this generation of PS3 and XBOX 360. Don't let that bug you. This game (And Forza as well) are excellent and worth the asking price. If you love realistic racing, you should buy this game.

I wish this game was recognized for the things it did do rather than the things it didn't do.

I've never spent more time with a game in my life, let alone a racing game.

It all boils down to WHY one plays a game and, for me, one of the greatest factors is immersion.

So expectations were enormous. The damage modeling is moderate, there are a huge number of "standard" model cars, there are a few jaggy shadows here and there, and some of the details in a handful of tracks don't scream PS3.

BUT, the detail in the cockpits of those premium cars, those cars that I dream of sitting in but probably never will, is phenomenal. Sway your view left to right and in reverse and the sense of immersion is unparalleled. When it comes to graphics, I always ask myself, "is there enough here to keep me in the game or has the game blatantly broken my sense of immersion?" The goal of Gran Turismo 5 is realism so the minimalist approach to details on the track is actually appreciated. You won't find any exaggerations or artistic indulgences here. The result is pure focus on the vehicle in which you are seated and the driving experience--an aspect of the game that needs no explanation or defense.

Tune one of the hundreds of high-powered premium cars, take a seat and hit the road. For me, this was enough.

So GT5 would rate 4-stars normally, but given the fact that Polyphonic developed this for 6 years, expectations are higher, and this game doesn't meet them.

I'll start off with the good parts of the game first.

Graphics:

It's got outstanding graphics. The photo mode is insane. Yes, only 20% of the cars are fully scanned by GT5, but it's not a big deal, really. Asking GT5 to put that amount of work into all 1,000 cars is just asking too much for such a small improvement. The game size is already large enough as it is. Stages also look very good.

Car selection:

Couldn't ask for more. You can look up which cars are available on the web. I won't list them here. However, some races require used cars, and since dealers don't have a WHOLE lot of those, you'll have to wait for them to be offered on the very small Used Car lot. This could take forever. I still can't find a truck.

Presentation:

Outstanding. Menus are navigable and simple, races are easy and quick to restart, and everything looks very clean. Load times are OK.

Content:

Pretty good amount of content. You won't be disappointed.

OK, now the bad parts.

Collisions:

One of the big things they promoted about this game was the collision physics, new to GT5. However, I'm not sure if they changed anything at all. Two cars hitting each other at any speed sounds like someone kicked a rubbermaid trashcan for some reason, and barely ever causes any physical change in the car, nor the kind of collision response you'd expect (touching a wall or another car at any angle, even just a glancing touch, brakes you as hard as if both objects were made of rubber). Also, just like in previous game iterations, computer cars are planted securely on the road no matter how hard you try to knock them off. God forbid you position yourself to run them into a wall or try to force them into a tailspin, they'll win the battle every time, knocking you across the track. I guess you could argue that GT5 isn't about such aggressive contact racing, but then why can the AI run me off the road? In 20 hours of play never once have I been able to force someone's car more than 1 or 2 feet off the road, much less spin it out, yet they do it to me constantly.

Physics:

Car physics and performance seem good until you get to some of the mid-engined cars, when they go nuts. The Lamborghini Murcielago LP670 SV performs far below where it should, often being unable to out-accelerate Miuras or Gallardos, and with brakes so bad they'll constantly send you spinning into walls. The Lotus Elise race on the Top Gear track is famous for being essentially impossible. Touch the brakes and you'll spin out. Touch the throttle and you'll spin out. I did the course about 70-90 times and I've only been able to complete the first lap (of two) twice. And, by the way, I use to have a Lotus Elise that I tracked, and it DOES NOT perform like it does on GT5. There are various theories on the web as to what the problems arise from (someone forgot to program down force on some cars?). Despite all this, the Ferrari 458 and the Lamborghini Miura, both mid-engine cars, perform very well.

Customization:

Where to begin. Customization has been getting worse and worse in GT5 games, and the pattern continues. You can upgrade about 30 different things but not your brakes. Overly-expensive turbos add a minuscule amount of power (what kind of turbo adds 20hp?). You have EXTREMELY limited amount of control over what you can adjust on cars compared to previous GT5 games. No camber, toe-in/out, splitter, brake force, or wing adjustments, among others. You have a limited control over transmission, suspension, and brake balance, but only if you buy EXTREMELY expensive upgrades, which you won't want to do usually. That's about it. The only visual customization is paint color.

B-Spec:

B-spec mode, another new thing they added to allow you to direct someone else while they're driving, is horrible. There's no introduction so you don't exactly know how your driver is interpreting your commands, but there's only 4 anyway. Aside from those 4 commands, there's nothing else to do. You just sit there and watch. Oh, and B-spec races are twice the length of A-spec.

Music:

The music is ABSOLTELY TERRIBLE. Half of it puts you to sleep, the other half just leaves your mouth puckered in disgust. I don't recognize a single song other than the zany rendition of The Entertainer that plays when you go in the maintenance shop.

In the end, this game makes you wonder what they've been doing for 6 years. I mean, companies make entire universes of content if given 6 years (like MMOs). GT5 seems to have spent all of that time in the following way: 85% lets' scan 200 cars into GT5 in minute detail, 9% new courses, 3% photo modes, 3% new menus and screens, 0.0001% collision physics.

Read Best Reviews of Gran Turismo 5 Here

First let me start out by saying, if you dont have a wheel at least like Logitechs driving force gt at around 130 bucks you will probably be quite underwhelmed wth the game.

The game has undergone numerous updates which have gone a long way to fix the slow plodding menus, some graphical anomalies, and the terrible ai.

The AI now isnt bad. They will dodge you, theyll try to find their way around you. However, the AI ISNT exciting. You dont have different personalities come through. But it's still perfectly serviceable.

The graphiocs are FANTASTIC. You really cant ask for more. The engine sounds sounded nice at the start but just not quite beefy. (Update: I set it to the full dynamic range (large theater setting) and got a good headphone setup that can actually do this very thing. Oh my goodness. Problem solved :) It sounded phenomenal. I was racing a ferari enzo and I was in cockpit mode. I heard this roaring engine deafening me at loud RPM's not in the center but slightly to the right of the center as it should be in real life. But most people probably will not have this type of setup so I imagine the engines will still not very beefy. . )

One other MAJOR CON is that you have to get to level 20 to really get much enjoyment out of the rich graphics, or the damage etc. This takes a looooooooong time. So, if you dont have the time or a wheel, dont bother.

Also, it's nearly impossible to slide an AI car out. You just cant.

Now the Good.

Graphics!!! Wow. After level 20, most cars you will drive are the 200 premium cars which look stunning including the interiors.

PHYSICS and gameplay: Incredible sensation of control on the steering wheel. amazing handling. The different tires make a difference. Drifting isnt easy as it should be. The cars just feel like they behave right. For instance if Im taking a turn and let off the throttle the car will not steer as well as if I had momentum going. If I brake at high speeds on certain cars without ABS enabled, Ill feel the steering wheel pulling as I struggle to keep the car from spinning out in a straight line. A ferrari enzo handled very different from the 458 italia though both had great performance. The enzo was tougher to control. But the incredible bit was there was a billion subtleties in the control system that it was just sublime.

The mini was a blast to drive as was the Evo and the lancia delta. The lancia delta being incredible at drifting. The mustang not as easy. All the different styles of cars behaved differently from model to model. The tires made a huge difference. Racing tires had the best grip but lost a bit of the wildness that standard tires had etc.

I cant emphasize how gorgeous the models are and there is a lot of satisfaction watching the replays just because your car looks stunning and you look good driving it.

When I discovered the ehandbrake button, things got much better as it allowed me to perform wilder maneuvers. Throttle and breaking feel great where you need careful control on the throttle and brake. For instance if you try braking in a turn you are more liable to spin the car out. But if you do you can cut the opposite way if you are fast enough and try to initiate a drift, but if your speed is out of the correct range this technique doesnt work. As you can see the options are nearly infinite as are the selection of vehicles.

You have TRUCKS! Mini cars! Cars! Electric cars! Karts! Dirt Cars! Incredible.

After level 20 the damage looks nice but it feels mainly cosmetic and doesnt really contribute much. But the point of gt5 is clean racing. This is a realistic game (for a console) that is just not meant to be played as an ass.

My friends came over and tried the steerring wheel and kept crashing constantly as they tried to steer at way too high speeds.

The force feedback is great, from bumper pads on the corners, feeling your wheels spin out, the steering tensing up at higher speeds, shuddering at ridiculous speeds. Slamming that h-shifter in gear. Even using the paddles are great. With a g25 you ca even use the clutch though I havent tried this. You can tell which side is spinning out or even in sopme cases which tire by the accuracy of the feedback.

Amazing.

The Veyrons spoiler goes up and down with speed and the airbrake comes on if you brake at a certain speed. As you drift, lots of smoke is given off and then as the back end touches the grass dirt flies everywhere.

Driving a classic benz 300 on the nurbrughring in the rain i nthe evening, the rain spray off the other cars was lit up by my headlights making it hard to see. Nice. Apparently you can turn off the lights during these events.

Certain tracks have great changes in elevation which make a difference in the handling. Accelerating on an inclined cuve will give you more grip than on a regular curve etc. I dont know what magic they put in their physics system but its near unbelievable. Frame rate drops have beeen improved by updagtes.

Even the upgrades dont provide the sae performance increase in different cars. And your top speed wont necessarily go exponentially up past a limit while you upgrade a crappy car.

The SEASONAL EVENTS are much more balanced than most of the races in the game. So spend your time on these things as you will get a greater challenge.

This game is not for you IF:

You use a controller. You want to race dirty or crazy and just arent very good at doing so. You dont have an extraordinary amount of time and patience. If you liked TEST DRIVE unlimited or arcade racing games. This is not an arcade game. This game isnt like another very good game called Dirt 2 or 3. This is slower in pace and not as crazy.

Is for you:

If you like realism. If you have a wheel. If you have patience to get to level 20. You dont mind somewhat simplistic upgrade systems. (You still have options but they are dumbed down a bit, and you cant upgrade your brakes, though the dfferent cars braking capabilities all vary).

As someone that spent months playing Gran Turismo 3 I was very excited for the release of GT5. I eagerly picked it up on the first day of release and jumped right into it. As everyone will find out pretty quick it's relatively easy to play. There is a lot of depth to this game and you will find many ways to customize the car of your choice. The early skill level events of the game are usually easy to get first place in even if you have decided not to tune your car. Soon you will find yourself repeating the same 5-10 tracks over and over in an attempt to build up credits to buy new cars and new mods. While this does start to get monotonous it's fun to learn every area of each track to really hone your skills. Also you're going to need that kind of experience on each track as the level of competition and number of laps increases through the intermediate level to the advanced level. Eventually you will open up the endurance events, which in my opinion are the most fun and challenging events in the game.

Pros:

+Classic Gran Turismo controls and game play

+Many cars and tracks

+Pretty good music library

+Responsive controls with standard and wheel controllers

Cons:

-Shading and rendering of many vehicles looks unfinished

-Tons of menu screens and loading times

-Vehicle damage was hyped, but didn't deliver!

-Grinding tracks 100+ times for credits

Overall this is a very fun game and excellent value for fans of the previous Gran Turismo titles or anyone willing to spend hours and hours playing a racing game. There are some glaring flaws in the visuals that you would have hoped that 5+ years of development would have fixed. With that being said I really enjoyed playing this game from the first race I completed in my 75 HP car all the way up until I stopped playing with 98% completion. Order today!

EDIT 18 Sep 11

So, its been several months since I have touched this game. After watching a few episodes of Top Gear I really missed playing GT5 so I thought I would give it another go around. Whats the first thing I see? I need to install the last 7 updates that I have missed since I stopped playing...BLAH! After the updates are finally finshed I start looking around at some of the new features and I gotta say, WOW! Buying/installing/uninstalling parts and tires can now be done on almost any menu screen. This may not seem like a big improvement to some, but for those of us that have spent numerous hours playing the game and have been frustrated having to back out of menus to fix the smallest details its completely awesome! Another improvement is to the placing/prize system for seasonal events. Before when you finished first place you would get the prize money, but if you raced and finished first on that same track again you would get nothing. Now instead of having to resort to grinding an A Spec track, for a weak $90,000 to save up to buy that new car you want just hop on your favorite seasonal event and grind it for sometimes up $400,000+ a race.

Im really enjoying playing GT5 again. Best racing game ever!

Months ago, the boyfriend called from Gamestop while returning a couple of Silent Hill games we foolishly bought one weekend. "Google games & tell me the first one that comes up that looks good."

For the next few weeks I sat beside him & watched in awe as he struggled to get through the Asylum Demon (the very first boss, maybe 10 minutes into the game). As time went by the two of us had our weekends consumed, him playing & me watching. I eventually started sitting with my laptop constantly on & at the ready in case he needed help finding items or wanted recommended strategies from the multitude of Wiki material available online. I rememeber at one point I actually started telling him he was doing things wrong, criticizing his play! Me who had never even played the game. I would tell friends about it with great enthusiasm, encouraging them to play too. These conversations grew awkward though, simply due to the fact that I had nothing to back it up. I had still yet to play..

I became so intruiged that I finally decided to give it a shot. Though I was sure I would fail, as games that required manual sight control (ie; Skyrim) historically have defeated me almost instantaneously. I struggled & got insanely frustrated trying to wildly maneuver around both joysticks just so that I could see where in god's name I was going, let alone try to fight something, hah! My journey ended shortly after it began in the Undead Asylum. I owned up my initial defeat to a combination of my struggles with the controls, my complete lack of practice, & not knowing when some scary monster might come around a corner & attack me! My level 2 Pyromancer forever sits at that bonfire.

A while later I got a bit angry with myself for quitting so quickly & mustered up the courage to try again. This game was just too cool to give up before I had even gotten to the first boss fight. I spent hours & hours in the Asylum just running around killing Floppys, (or Hollows, as they're referred to) but I prefer Floppys. I finally realized by accident how to LOCK ON to an enemy! Oh my god! I can actually fight now! Aghh I'm so awesome! Oh god the boss. And I'm dead. Omg plunging attack AGGHH!! And I'm dead again. Ok I'll stop.

Now.

After creating many new characters from scratch I think I've finally settled on one I can be happy with. The directions that you can take your character are endless & require careful planning & strategy early on, otherwise you, like me, may end up having to start over with a new one in order to get on the right track. Visually this game is stunning. It is so captivating & you allow it to draw you in without question. Dying becomes a bit less heart-breaking every time, & the run back to regain what was lost can vary between a slow strategic trek, to an all-out crazy, flailing sprint! This game will get your heart pumping. It will keep you up at night, which is why, fellow students, I recommend purchasing it over the summer. It will make you mad, FURIOUS at times! Furious enough to wake the neighbors. But when you FINALLY defeat that especially difficult boss, or that particularly annoying invader, with your very last shard of humanity, with only a fraction of your health left, I guarantee it will bring you to your feet for an immediate victory dance Tiger Woods style.

Sorry for the somewhat disjointed review. There's just too much to explain in order to create an adequete non-bias review of this product in its entirety, so I tried to create one that depicted the way the game made me feel when I play. Hopefully you feel the same way. It's definitely a ride worth taking! :)

To those considering this game, I would give it 100 stars if I could. Expect a challenge, & buy it. If a noob like myself was able to get the hang of it, anyone can.

Praise the Sun!

Well, these are exaggerations on both counts but... you get the idea.

I do not consider myself a hard core gamer but there were a few grand games that I played hard and long on the PS3: Oblivion, Fallout, Grand Turismo, Demon's Souls. Of these, Demon's Souls was the only Platinum I've ever earned and it clocks at over 500 hours of pure fear, strong anxiety and intense frustration punctuated by brief moments of pride and joy brought by the hard earned sweet victories.

I started talking about Demon's Souls because to us, PS3 gamers, Dark Souls is NOT the first coming of unspeakable terror onto our consoles. Dark Souls is the SECOND coming. And what a visitation this promises to be :)

Okay, here it is, after the first few hours. I am going to post updates (not spoilers) as I progress through the game.

THE COMMONS

Deomon's Souls has many, never-seen-before, amazing innovations. We hoped and we expected to see most of them again on 'chapter two' and Dark Souls does not disappoint even though Dark's seems to be a Universe unrelated to Demon's. It's not even a parallel Universe (I like to think of parallel Universes as those in which the other fellow Dark Souls players exist if running around as a hollowed-out soul you can call 'existence'. It's a different world but a lot works in seemingly familiar ways.

Here's what I would call the Demon's heritage:

One-save only. And this is a BIG thing because the game saves itself every couple of seconds. Once you get hurt or you hurt someone you didn't mean to you can't go back to the previous save because there's no such thing. Unless you have one hand on the power cord ready to pull it, everything you do has consequences and you can't go back and try again. Be VERY careful when you talk to them merchants or blacksmiths because one unintended slap and they will never deal with you again.

Human vs. Soul form. Can't be invaded by other players while in Soul (Hollow) form. As a Human you can invade other words, help others, seek help.

Classes. You pick yours from 10. Not exactly the same as in Demon's though.

Stats. Again, 10 different categories, some differently named, some totally new like 'humanity' and 'attunement'.

The ability to seek help and to help others. I believe that you can have up to 3 others helping.

The Stones. They are of different colors but they have uses not unlike the Demon's stones, possibly more: to seek help, to leave messages, to invade.

Souls as currency of the land and the price price you must pay to level up. And you lose them all every time you die so... use them (buy, uplevel) before you lose them.

Every time you rest all non-boss enemies respawn.

The ability to play nasty and invade other players' worlds.

Blood stains. You can see how others died.

Second (and ONLY second) chance. You can recover lost souls if you can touch your own blood stain before you die again.

Messages. Can leave messages but don't expect to be able to type away detailed clues. You pick your message from a pre-approved list.

Incredibly precise combat. Each class of weapons acts differently and you can see/feel the difference between hitting flesh, bone or armor.

Uchigatanas!!! Need I say more? These are by far the coolest katanas you'll ever swing in any game and probably the best you can get through this one at least through mid-game. Demon Souls most terrifying black phantoms (invading players) where the 2-Uchigatana dudes. Most, possibly all of the Demon's weapons can be found in Dark: Claymores, Halberds, Clubs, Axes, Estocs and so forth.

Practice makes perfect. Like Demon's Souls, this is a struggle for perfection because in most instances only perfect or near-perfect attacks and defenses will save you from yet another horrific death.

Continues the Deomon's tradition of no difficulty levels. Like its predecessor, there's only one difficulty level on Dark and that's 'very easy', as in 'very easy to get yourself killed'. Seriously, for anyone who played Demon's, Dark feels like the second or third playthrough only you start at a low level, have no weapons or armor and find yourself in completely unfamiliar territory now so it takes a little bit of dying, observing and experimenting before your learn the ropes.

THE DELTAS (new and never seen before)

This, I'm sure, is going to be a growing list and I'm going to update it as I progress into the game. If what's going on in this game can be called 'progress'.

One-world design. This appear to be a huge world but gates, bridges and passes are all well guarded so be prepared to shed a lot of blood and die a lot to earn your right of passage. Unlike Demon's which had a hub that was the only connection between the several separate 'worlds', Dark's world regrions are very much interconnected and much of the fun and mystery is your gradually discovering and unlocking sometimes secret doors and passages.

The healing system. The role of 'grasses' is drastically reduced (there are some mosses that you can still use to cure ailments) but Dark doesn't make it as easy when it comes to your ability to recover health. It's no longer near-unlimited.

The Covenants. Each of the 9 will open new play modes and, as always, every action brings about consequences. Joining may appear an easy decision but separation can be painful and costly.

Pyromancy as a THIRD class of magic, joining sorcery and miracles. For anyone who likes fire and explosions... it's awesome.

The Gifts. Interestingly some seem to have no effect while others such as the Magic Key you get if you pick the class of Thief is quite useful.

Danger times 2. It may be just because I'm a little rusty playing Souls or because I know Demon's so well now it's like a walk in the park but Dark appears to be a lot harder. But... we play, we learn. We shall see :)

More color. Can't imagine Demon's with colors but in this world the occasional bright splashes blend well and don't subtract from the feeling of danger.

No Luck. You COULD get lucky in Deomon's Souls but that's no longer the case. That particular stat has disappeared, replaced by your ability to hold 'humanities' which you lose every time you die.

Sweet revenge. One of the covenants mission is to hunt down and kill those nasty dark phantom bullies.

And, of course, Dark Souls does away with all the gentleness and hand-holding occasionally found in Demon's. It really does. Remember that nice Russian lady in the Nexus that you must kill if you want your Platinum? Gone! My first impressions: don't trust anyone because everybody seems to be either evil or insane.

THE STORY

Not quite sure what's expected of me yet and I don't think I should spoil anyone's fun anyway. There is a prologue, of course and, clearly, terrible things happened that caused this not to be a happy world. Need to investigate some more but I'm not sure who's to be trusted, who should be used, who can be a friend.

MY RATING

If Amazon's 5 stars stands for 'I love it', what would be the star count for "I love it, I fear it and, 80 hours into the game I'm obsessed by it"? Well... 5's the limit :). I expect to spend hundreds of hours playing this game and, hopefully, with a little or maybe a lot of help from my friends and a lot of priceless advice from some of the game-focused sites I will name my favorites on a comment to this review.

__________________________________________

July 2012 Update:

Several months and several hundreds hours of gameplay later, I'm still playing Dark Souls.

Sure, I 'beat' the game so many times already but finishing the game the first time is only the beginning. Then you play 'new game plus' (NG+), then NG++, NG+++ and so on where everything gets harder and harder. Can't get the platinum trophy unless you go through the game at least twice.

And there's the PvP (player vs. player) which is where, with your most deadly or your most fun character built to much your skills you can face other players in everything ranging from helping out a fellow player beat a boss or a fair 1v1 fight where players bow to each other in the beginning and pay their respects to the defeated one once the fight is over to no-rules melees where magic and poison knives fly, buffed greatswords or halberds hit hard and you may face up to 3 players plus whatever the game may be throwing at you at the same time. The fun never ends, the variety is almost endless and it's addictive.

I would not recommend this cable at all. I purchased this cable in order to hook up a PS3 to a Samsung 40" LCD TV. The highest setting I could get though was 1080I. I subsequently purchased another cheaper HDMI cable from Amazon and had no issues at all getting set up at 1080P.

Here is the cable I bought that worked:

"no such thing as a better cable" is a misnomer. HDMI cables are rated by the bandwidth capacity (commonly known as bitrate per second), the higher the rate, the more info it can pass digitally in a given timeframe. Why is this important? Because, as games become faster, and higher-bit color graphics emerge, HDMI cables will need the additional bandwidth capacity to smoothly transmit the digital signal from game/video source to your T.V. Emerging technologies, such as 12, 16, and 18-bit color, and "lossless audio" will become standard in the near future.

There are some HDMI cables capable of 3.4 Gbit/s, which can more than handle today's 1080P/12-bit color requirements. Some manufacturers, like Monster Cable, claim 10.2 Gbit/s with their M1000HD series HDMI cable, but it's really 3.4 Gbit/s cable multiplied by it's channels (3).

Current sources, such as HD DVD, BluRay and the current crop of PS3 games are adequately served by the HDMI cable listed here. However it won't be long before a "better cable" is required to handle the latest technology. You don't have to sweat it, for the moment.

This cable did not work with any of my equipment. I ordered it with my PS3 to connect directly to my TV. I had no signal at all. Also tried from my HD cable box to the TV and had no better luck.

I tried my PS3 with another HDMI cable and had no problems.

Don't buy this cable.

I commented fairly extensively on HDMI cable technology about 16 months ago. Some people are having a problem with this particular cable. I've found through doing several hook-ups of friend's and family's systems that they were usually doing something wrong in the hook-up process. Typically, after installing the HDMI cables they failed to change the source input/ouput to HDMI on their TV's or game consoles, or incorrectly matched the source resolution that best suits their TV. It is important to sync the hardware so it's all on the same page.

That being said, I won't defend this cable. I don't use it. I found Blue Jeans Cable to be perfectly suited for my 1080p setup. I use Belden bonded-pair HDMI 1.3a cable (apx. $4/ft) throughout my system. Moving to 1.3a or better will help to futureproof your system. And any decent HDMI cable will operate your PS3, so you don't have to buy this one.

Although this seems to be a fairly well constructed cable for the price, it does not appear to be 1.3 compliant. Avoid the hype that it says it's for PS3. If your TV requires an HDMI 1.3 compliant cable, you will not get better than 1080i, or in my case, garbled video. Nowhere on the packaging could I find the spec, even on the MFR's web site.

This is honestly the best game under the One Piece franchise yet. It is an improvement in almost every way compared to the first one. Such as follows:

1.) Instead of 13 characters, there are 27 (37 counting the Pre-skip Straw Hats and Blackbeard with two Devil Fruits).

2.) Where as previously, Chopper and Nami were among the worst characters to play simply because they were under powered or their movesets were terrible, here, they are improved and now they are among the better characters to play.

3.) All annoying Quick Time Events have been removed, as have the clunky platforming sections.

4.) Instead of a measly 20 enemies or so on the screen at a time, there are over double and sometimes triple the amount of enemies.

5.) The Level cap can be raised from 50 to 100.

6.) Each character is very unique in their own respective ways; no two characters are alike in movesets.

7.) the Team strike has been replaced with the more interesting Haki system, which allows you to move faster or do more damage depending on the character in addition to being able to use a support character.

8.) There is a lot more support characters including some that are not playable, but neat to use in your Haki mode.

9.) There is more to do. Rather than just the Story Mode and a couple of other logs, there are more stages, challenges, and stuff the unlock.

Be warned however, unless you use logic (or simply know Japanese), it would be easier to wait for the English version to come out in August, but it is very well worth it. If you do buy this, know that there are guides to help you on the internet (i.e. Youtube).

The game itself (as a fan of all things One Piece) was a must buy for me but after playing it, I really fell in love.

Definitely a top five game for me. Combat hugely improved from the first Kaizou Musou. Story is Non canon but still great & it has many other interesting qualities. Larger groups of enemies,More Characters and even some new combos for the characters from the first game(During Style action) which by the way is very cool. Makes you feel very over powered even on the highest difficulty but nonetheless I would recommend this to One Piece fans, anime fans, people who like beat em' ups etc..

Battleship is a really fun game and it is not too hard either. The graphics are pretty good. The ships look great. Since the fighting takes place on and around islands, you can watch all of the ships battling each other = very cool.

This is a first person shooter. During the ground battle you can open ship control. Winning both the ground campaign and the War at Sea is fun!

Enemy soldiers, once defeated, sometimes drop Wild Card power ups for your ships. These are really cool. There is one power up called Ship Command that lets you battle an alien ship in real time for 20 seconds. During this time your ship does double damage as you easily aim and fire the ship's guns.

There are different ships to command including, of course, a Mighty Battleship. Off-shore bombardment is the key to winning the ground battle.

Battleship is not a long game clocking in at about 8 hours or so, counting failed missions. The checkpoint system is good, however. Battleship is a really fun game!

This game is good to a certain point The only bad thing is that it would have been really good if you could have air support for one of the strikes you could call in .Also the alien weapons are not that much stronger than the humans

This game is not bad. But the problem is when you have a young kid just starting out reading, that where the problem comes in. You will find yourself reading the mission to your young child. Recommend ten years and beyond. If you are a parent with little time to sit and read mission this game is not for your young child. Instead, he plays black opps.

Plays exactly like Dynasty Warriors series and Samurai Warriors. If you like the other games then you'll probably like this too. I don't mind the hack and slash games, but I only played Dynasty Warriors 4 and 5 on the PS2 and Samurai Warriors. I would recommend this to those that like the other series just because well it's a little new. It plays the same and all, but with the added Gundam theme. It's basically just like going from Dynasty Warriors to Samurai Warriors. Story isn't really that great though, but if you just wanna destroy 1000 enemies then this is it. I have only watched G Gundam and Gundam Wings, so I'm not sure how the other series was. But characters comes from all over the series, but only Domon from G Gundam and Heero from Gundam Wing is in here. Cuz I don't really recognize any of the other Gundams.

The game to me is shorter then the other series because well, there's really no more then 4 missions for each character. And it basically just drag each mission on to about 15 30 min. So basically to level your pilots (max 30) or Gundam (max 10) you would have to play the mission over and over. That's probably why they give the option to play with a pilot using different Gundam. Along with the cutscene and victories, they seem to be all the same no matter what Pilot you use. But there is a "Offical Mode" which follows the Gundam storyline, and it will end the same, with the same cut scenes no matter what side you pick....... The "Original Mode" Which is a story about a mysterious planet and all Gundam pilots are just thrown in there.

If you like the series, but don't like the Gundam theme then I suggest you just wait for Dynasty Warriors 6.

At the current price, it's a must for any Gundam fans. They have about every series covered, although some are more highly favored than others(Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Seed). I would really like to see a game based soley on Gundam Wing come out soon!

Buy Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Now

I have played several installments of the Dynasty Warriors series and it never truly felt anything had really changed. Like Street Fighter, the games used the same formula with new characters and for loyal fans, it worked but unless you were a fan of the series, it just wouldn't grab your attention. I've watched several Gundam series over the years and was excitied when I first heard of this game. I had read good reviews on it and many people I spoke with said it was worth a look so I bought a copy and have loved it. I can tell you right now that many Gundams are not included in this game mainly from the G-Gundam series though to be fair, many would prefer more Gundams from the Gundam Wing Series. I honestly would like to see Dragon Gundam and DeathScythe Gundam in this game but I am hoping they will do a sequel and add those Gundams in. Still regardless of how I would like certain characters added in, I still very much enjoy playing this game. It is just great fun to have several Zaku mobile suits coming at you at once and you just unleash combos on all of them and before you know it, you have already put down 100 enemies in less than a minute and a half. I would reccommend this game to any Gundam fan or Dyansty Warriors fan, however if you are not someone into battling several opponents at once, I would pass on this but I still would tell anyone, this is a great game to own.

Here's my Pros and Cons for this game.

Pros:

Graphics of the Gundams are very detailed and seeing your Gundams in action is very cool.

Tons of stuff to unlock, such as, Mobile Suits, Characters, and even the Space Ships.

Japanese Voice Over option!

Fun Hack n' Slash and Hundreds of Enemies!!! Don't need to really think. Just sit down, play, and enjoy the eye candy.

Some simple RPG Elements, such as, Leveling up and equipments.

Cons:

Backgrounds are kinda dull looking.

Repetitive Gameplay.

Overall:

I'm an Anime Fan and I enjoyed it a lot. Just looking at Gundams in Action was well worth it. I would recommend this to all Anime Fans.

I will not get into the details of how great the PS3 is. It is a good product.

My original PS3 60 GB just died after 6 years of light use and I had to replace it with this bundle.

Overall it is a great bundle but the Amazon picture shows the PS3 installed vertically on a stand. I honestly believed that I will get everything that is shown in the picture. Unfortunatelly, the vertical stand is not included and the cheapest I could find one was $20.

Also, as another reviewer noted, the games are in sleeves, not in cases.

I recommend the bundle but know what you are getting.

Hello Amazon review board. I have been a player and buyer of games for many years and I have never done a single review but I see the need to help everyone who got this ps3 bundle. I purchased this one only a month ago when it was for 280. I had the same long ringing problem that a lot of other people are getting on this system and this is how I simply fixed it. THERE WAS A PIECE OF CLEAR TAPE OF THE TRAY THAT SLIDES OPEN AND WHEN I FIRST PLAYED A DISC IT MADE A HUGE LOUD SOUND AND SCREECH, BUT AFTER YOU COMPLETELY REMOVE THE LITTLE PIECE OF CLEAR TAPE ON THE SLIDER TRAY IT SHOULD SOUND PERFECT AND PLAY SMOOTH. After I removed it the disc and system played quiet and smooth and I was so relieved. I hope it helps people out who are having the same problem. I would hate for people to have to fight through that. Hopefully this helps. First and last review for anything. Thanks

The games that come included aren't really the best, but for what they give you, it's still a really good price! Two games, the new PS3 and a media remote for BluRay movies! I personally loved this. I own an Xbox 360 and got a PS3 just for the awesome single player games! Definitely worth it!

Read Best Reviews of PS3 250GB Amazon Exclusive Family Entertainment Bundle Here

I've been gaming since the original NES, and I've owned a PSX and PS2, but I held off on buying a PS3 due to the originally high price. I adopted the Xbox 360 and played that as my main console for years. After Gran Turismo 5 came out, I started looking at the PS3 more seriously but never ended up pulling the trigger. I recently bought a HDTV, and wanted a BluRay player and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to finally get a PS3.

This bundle comes with a comically large BluRay remote, which doesn't really fit in my hand very well. It's also difficult to see the buttons, especially in a dimly lit room. Comes with 2 AAA batteries and works fine, though. It also doubles as a controller as it has the traditional buttons on it (X, O, square, triangle, etc.).

The Super Slim PS3 is much smaller than I anticipated. My large Xbox 360 looks downright huge next to it. I'm on the fence about the sliding disc drive cover, but it does its job. The drive sounds quiet, and I can't hear it unless there is no sound on the TV. Sometimes I wish the drive had a button that you pushed to open the cover (like on the original PSX) but that's probably just being nit-picky.

The controller is wireless and rechargeable. I would've liked a removeable battery pack a la the Xbox 360 just in case the internal battery stops holding a charge. You charge this controller using a USB cable that is included. The cable is pretty short, so I would recommend just charging the controller using a PC's USB port rather than trying to play with it connected to the console. It also only charges when the console is on, another plus for PC charging. The controller is almost identical to the Dual Shock 2, but there is now a motion-detector (SIXAXIS) and the L2/R2 buttons are now triggers rather than traditional buttons. There's also a center button that allows you to access the menus and turn on/off the controller and console.

I'm pleasantly surprised with All-Stars Battle Royale, but I have yet to open the Ratchet & Clank collection. It also comes with a 1 month trial of Playstation+, but you have to enter your credit card information to use the trial. If you don't cancel before the end of the month, they will continue to charge you for the subscription. The Playstation+ subscription allows you to get discounts on the Playstation Store and you can also download a limited selection of free games (LittleBigPlanet 2, inFamous 2, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, etc.). There are also free 1 hour trials of a large selection of retail games for you to try on Playstation+. The included games do not come in a traditional plastic case, just a cardboard sleeve. Not a huge deal, but something that probably deserves mentioning.

Comparing the PSN service to Xbox Live, I prefer Xbox Live. It's easier to communicate with friends using Xbox Live and it's easier to play cooperatively and compare stats. Xbox Live just seems to have more effort put into it than Sony put into PSN. The trophy system also seems a little bit more shallow than the point-based achievement system on the Xbox 360. However, I am pleased with the fact that you can level-up based on the number of trophies you have. That adds an extra element of competition amongst your friends.

I did encounter one major issue with my PS3 out of the box. I completed the initial setup using the default (automatic) options, and I noticed that every so often my screen would go completely black, then come back on. The sound during this time would also be lost. I removed the option to use 1080p, and left 720p checked and that seemed to help, but it still does it every once in a great while... just not as often as before. If it continues to do this, I may consider lowering the score. At the rate it's doing it now (maybe once every couple of days) it's not a huge deal to me. If it goes back to doing it multiple times per session, though, I'll be thoroughly disappointed. I'm connected to my TV using the HDMI cable at the moment.

[UPDATE 6-24-13] I haven't experienced the black screen issue in a few months, so I believe it's fixed. My guess is that it was trying to output 1080p to my TV, which is 720p. I'll keep it in my review, though, in case anyone else runs into the same problem. I updated my score, however.

All-in-all, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I've been enjoying Gran Turismo 5, Twisted Metal, and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale the most out of the games I've played. There's a huge library of games out there that I didn't even know existed. Lots of great JRPGs and exclusive titles to check out. I highly recommend the PS3.

I actually took one apart that i got for free so here is everything i know that i can tell you :)

1. The PS3 Super Slim is 20 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than the previous model. It measures 11.4″ (W) x 2.36″ (T) x 9.05″ (D).

2. Like its predecessor, this PS3 has two USB ports and a hard drive activity light along the front. Around back, you'll find the same Ethernet, HDMI, optical audio, and PS3 AV ports found on the previous model.

3. Redesigned Blu-ray drive: The new machine's optical drive has a manual sliding disc cover instead of a motorized slot-loading mechanism. This design likely helped Sony cut both costs and save space, but it just feels cheap and as Bakalar wrote, it's "ultimately a step back."

4. Repositioned HDD: The original PS3's hard drive was accessed through a panel on the side. Sony moved that access point to the front on the PS3 Slim. And now, they've gone right back to the side. But on the Super Slim you remove the whole side panel and not just a small cover.

5. Smaller power supply: Like the optical drive, the new machine's power supply is smaller than the PS3 Slim's. It's also rated for fewer Amps, so the new console appears to be drawing less current than its predecessors.

6. Smaller fan that's more difficult to remove: Unlike the PS3 Slim you can't remove the fan without removing the whole motherboard assembly and then separating the shield from the motherboard. Given the Super Slim's more compact design, it's not surprising that the cooling fan is smaller than the one in the larger Slim.

7. More compact motherboard, new components, same overall specs: Compared to the PS3 Slim's board, the Super Slim's board is smaller and the chips are placed closer to each other. Sony also removed the heat spreader from the Reality Synthesizer package, swapped Marvell's discreet wireless board for a newer Marvell WLAN/Bluetooth SoC, and went with two 1Gb XDR DRAM chips for the machine's main memory instead of older machine's four 512Mb chips.
