I'm just now getting around to writing a review on this skin, over two years after purchasing it. It has held up well, much better than I would have expected. I am always setting controllers and stuff on top of my PS3 and after a couple years it hasn't scratched or peeled at all. They were simple to install and are very high quality.

This skin looks amazing! The colors are very vivid, and don't look cheap like I had expected. The different pieces of the skin flow together perfectly if installed correctly. The cutouts for buttons and stuff are precise. All of the edges are still intact without showing ANY signs of wear. This is indeed for the old school "FAT" unit... so if you don't know what I'm talking about in regards to multiple skin pieces you probably have the slim one. Either way, this high quality skin is sweet!

Got my ps3 cooler about 3 weeks ago and it works pretty good for the price. It doesnt move tons of air, but enough to feel a little cooler, but what do you expect from a $10 investment. I'm not blaming it on this product, but on new years eve my ps3 froze on the start up greetings screen and has not worked since, but it was a 60gb purchased in February of 2007 so it was an older model, luckily i have a best buy warranty so i can just exchange for a new one without switching HDD. I got the item about 6 days after ordering. Plugged it in, worked fine except for that it didn't click on for me. It plugs into a usb port and then is supposed to attatch to a hole in one of the vents. I used a dab of hot glue and its fine. Its not that loud, not enough to bother. And I dont know if I was ripped off but I bought the same cord at Circut City for more than 60 bucks.

After a lot of research and fixing the ps3 for the second time. I realized this is useless. To prevent overheating you need to clean it, put new artic silver and keep it away from anything for airflow. Plus put the ps3 in a cold environment. No fan or series of fans will save it from overheating. At least the free cable works.

This didn't fit my 60GB Backwards Compatible PS3.

However it did fit my brother's non backwards compatible fat PS3.

Does not have much in the way of airflow. I got this as a precautionary measurement against FAT overheating issues.

FAT overheated with it. So don't get this if you are preventing the overheating issue.

The HDMI cable is alright, I wouldn't say it is amazing. It is only version 1.3, so don't expect amazing quality, especially in 3D. (I ended up getting a version 1.4 HDMI cable for 3D).

Overall HDMI cable is worth the price paid for the kit, so if you are in a pinch and need an HDMI cable, this is a good deal. However, don't get it thinking the fan will help you.

MLB 2K13 review

I have played the game for a bit now and to me one of the biggest weaknesses of the game is the graphics. The players just dont look as nice as others in the sport videao game arena. Although they have made some improvements from the previous years MLB games the graphics still look poorly done and could use some work. The modeling of the players seems out of place to the rest of the game. For the most part, the gameplay is pretty good, pitching and fielding work smoothly and seem to perform the way it should. The weakness seem to be in how the ball performs when it is hit. It doesnt appear to be rendered accurately at times.

MLB 2K13 really seems add very little over MLB 2K12 and doesnt really make you think there is something reinvented here. There really arent any major difference besides the roster updates and improving the functionality of some of the gameplay.

Maybe for those that are hardcore MLB2K fans, there is something for you but for 60 bucks just for some minor upgrades, I am not so sure. Is it worth shelling 60 bucks to get the latest version.... well not unless you just have to have the latest version.

NBA 2K13 review

Hardcore hoops fans and anyone else who even casually picks up the odd sports game should play NBA 2K13. This version continues to keep the bar high, enhancing the realism of and adding a superb new control scheme to this excellent recreation of pro basketball. Pace, graphics, animations, sound effects, and commentary are all so dead on that you feel like you've walked onto the court at Staples Center or Madison Square Garden. Only a few issues with the interface and the absence of controller tutorials, along with ridiculously overblown production values from Jay Z, get between you and the full appreciation of what looks, sounds, and feels like the real thing.

The good stuff:

Enhanced realism and a great new control setup make NBA 2K13 a fantastic recreation of pro hoops.

Excellent game flow emulates the real thing

New right-stick controls make slick moves easy to pull off

Signature skills enhance player depth

TV-realistic graphics and animations

Lively, varied play-by-play

The bad:

Confusing interface

Too much of Jay-Z

With this package, you get two decent games that are not without flaws but enjoyable to play at a discounted price.

I'm very disappointed about this product. Don't get me wrong, MLB2K13 is really fun to play and it's a real good game. My bad score is all NBA's fault. I can't believe they released a game with so many bugs in it. This game must be probably unfinished. I took it out of the box to the PS3 and surprise, it freezes. I suggest everyone look up for "Updating New Content Freeze" in Google. Apparently I'm not the only one that got this issue. I tried to fix it several times deleting and reinstalling game data with unsuccessful results. I decided to see what happens if PS3 has no access to Internet and my surprise was that the game actually worked. So, here it is... I can't play NBA2K13 online nor start the game without turning off Internet Connection, otherwise it will crash. This is a very serious problem that by this time of the season doesn't have any patch. I would recommend to buy MLB2K13 and forget about NBA2K13, it's totally frustrating. Even more if you're like me that played their games on 2011 and 2012... Too bad for 2k13... It seems to me they lost respect for their customers.

The main reason I bought this lightning green skin for my Guitar Hero controller was to match my XBOX 360 Elite, and it looks great displayed next to it! well THE BIGGEST problem, game is not released to us or Canada, so i had to order it from UK. The game-play and graphics are second to none, i have never seen a game quite like The Ashes, graphics are similar to NBA 2K10, with players facial expressions and swatting. you pretty much can play all the shots like in a real game mid-on, off etc....the bowling is also realistic with drift, dusras spin. The one feature, i enjoy the most is the ability to change how old the pitch is, i.e one game old two games old etc. It supports trophies so you will have new trophy every time you complete a challenge in a game.

The game is good but needs a patch released for fielding glitches, its very difficult to catch a ball, believe me i have played over 50hrs of it. on my good day i am able to complete only 80% of all catches. its not fully licensed by all cricket boards, so they have purposely misspelled the names of all the counties players except Australia and England. I would expect product like it, to be fully licensed. sometimes its hard to hit the ball but i have realized once you have passed the learning curve it almost becomes second nature.

overall, the game is 9/10. i personally feel its a step in the right direction as far as cricket games are concerned for xbox, and ps3. yes even though this game is PAL, format it play with ps3 in united states, you have to make sure you are using HDMI cables and HDTV

Cricket games have never captured the public imagination like, say, football games, mainly because a more complex sport is bound to breed a less-easily-grasped video game.

But Codemasters' Brian Lara-branded games of yore consistently outshone their rivals, and finally, the Britsoft publisher has acquired the plum cricketing licence: the Ashes. It's a big shame that Ashes Cricket 2009 didn't make it to the crease in time for the first Test in Cardiff, but at least it's a classy and thoroughly playable effort.

If I had played this game for an hour and stopped, I would have given it 5 stars. Unfortunately, I tried to beat the game in one sitting. After so much repetition of the 5 Rob Zombie/White Zombie songs I was about to throw my guitar through my television.

This game is pretty good but doesn't have a large variety of songs and it makes you go through each level which could be up to half an hour listening to the same song over and over until you either beat the level or until a big character rushes you which will start a short clip of the level song (usually the intro or refrain). During these battles, you will have to play Guitar Hero/Rock Band style. If you get enough notes correct the baddie will die, if not you have to start over again. Once you go back to the game, the level song track starts again. It's alright in the beginning where you don't get rushed that much but toward the end you get rushed every few seconds. It's not all Rob Zombie though. The game also has heavy metal versions of classical music which surprisingly aren't as annoying as listening to Zombie over and over. This is pretty bad because I am a Rob Zombie fan, I can only imagine people who don't like his music playing this game.

As for the other parts of the game Dougie Howser (Neil Patrick Harris) plays the main character and makes interesting quirky remarks throughout the game. It makes the game interesting and fun to play. The game itself does not take itself too serious (having to fight a transformer made up of the vehicles in a trailer park) and would have been a pleasure to play if not for the bad soundtrack.

In Case you are wondering the soundtrack is made up of Blur the Technicolor, American Witch, What? & Mars Needs Women by Rob Zombie and O Fortuna, Ochi Chyorne, Danse De La Fee Dragee, Galop Infernal, Dans L'antre Du Roi De La Montagne, Pavane En Fa-Diese Mineur, No Moonlight performed by David Bernabo and Corey Layman, and PPM, Hagr, MB Battle, Toccata Et Fugue In Re Mineur by Bret Johnson.

This was a great random find... for this OBSCURE and under-appreciated gem of a game. what it lacks in overall polish is made up for by innovative concept and game play. I have always thought it would be FUN to revive the old "The Bard's Tale" as a new game using the ubiquitous guitar controller everyone has these days, but until that day, this will just have to suffice. This was one of the most disappointing PS3 games that I've played.

It had two gameplay aspects that I love: arcade shooter and music. Despite that, it ends up being an awful game.

The biggest problem is its length. The game just goes on and on and on. The entire game takes over 4 hours to clear, and for an imitation arcade-shooter, that's way too long. It went from an interesting concept of defeating monsters with music notes to an annoying one.

Another big problem is the music. Most of the tracks are by Rob Zombie, but the battles with big monsters are done with random sections of the same song instead of in order. Sometimes, the same song sections will appear with 2 or more big monsters in the same level.

The voiceovers are textbook definitions of "phoned-in". Everyone sounded like there were just reading their lines.

I've spent years searching and experimenting with different games to play with my "non-gamer" wife: Dr Muto, Jax and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, etc., and the Simpsons is the best by far.

While each of the above titles has something to offer, they all ended up with my wife getting frustrated by having to "grind out" a particular level over and over and over again from the beginning until we get it right. Aside from the time trials, the Simpsons is very forgiving in terms of character death, and lets you continue in the level from where where you died most often without any game interruption or restarting at all.

The "episodes" are challenging enough to hold your interest through the use of humor and standard puzzles, and short enough that you can play for an hour and actually feel like you've accomplished something. This has always been a key area in holding my wife's interest in a game, because if she walks away feeling like she wasted her time... forget it that game's a goner.

So, if you've been looking for a PS3 game that you get your non-gamer spouse to play with you I think you ought to give the Simpsons a go.

It's kind of odd, a few months before The Simpsons Game was released, I was reading previews all over the place about how everyone thought this was not only the best Simpsons game ever made, but also a contendor for game of the year. I guess that the demo versions they played, they must have assumed that the few problems it has would be fixed, because while the game is indeed great, it does have some glaring problems.

First and foremost is the camera angle. It wants to get in your way quite often, and it can really tick you off when you're doing some of the mor eprecise platforming parts of the game. Honestly, EA is a pretty respectable company with a lot of talent under their leadership, they could have come up with a better camera for the game... one that doesn't remind me of the crappy camera angles mosr 3D games had in the mid 90's. Some people have said this game has sloppy controls. Not really, it actually controls really well, it's just the buggy camera that makes it hard to make precise jumps or get yourself oriented in the 3D world. Another complaint I have is the animation during the cut scenes varies from horrible to amazing. Playing this on my HDTV makes the game look wonderful, especially during cut-scenes. BUT... from time to time the animation is horribly drawn. I don't know if they were trying to recapture how the characters looked during the Tracy Ullman days, if so, that is cool as hell, but they don't really look like the Tracy Ullman characters, so I'm left wondering if from time to time cheap animation was used to save moeny or something. Either way, no big deal as it doesn't occur often.

Does all of the above make this a bad game? Well, my rating for it should clue you in to an answer of "no". Camera issues aside, The Simpsons Game is pure, simple, mindless FUN! The game makes fun of itself, of other games and is full of innuendos that fans of the show will eat up. Oh, and the game is hilarious, much more so than a majority of the new episodes of the show even! If you're a fan of old video and arcade games, you'll love how some of the gameplay mimics games like Everquest, Frogger, Grand Theft Auto and more. There's just so much fun to be had here, that aside from the camera issues I'd consider the game nearly perfect and a must buyu for anyone a fan of the show. The humor and fun-factor is so great, I find myself playing just a bit more to listen to various character's comments, or to see just one more funny cut-scene.

I've heard rumors that you can unlock the old Simpsons arcade game during the course of playing this game. I'm really hoping so, that would be the icing an an already half-eaten-by-Homer cake.

I've been a huges Simpsons fans since a kid and have played most of the Simpsons games from NES Simpsons games to Hit & Run. This one may be the best from the sheer fact that the graphics are the best to date and the voices are the actual cast of the Simpsons. Graphics for the PS3 version are very good, but they could have pushed it a little further.

Animation scenes are also brilliant. Plays & looks well on my 61" 1080P TV. Also you can play 2 players for all the missions which is sort of fun. This game is a little too hard for little kids but ages seven and up should enjoy it.

I'm a busy 40 year old who was looking for a game that I could jump into for 20 minutes before bedtime for some relaxation. The Simpson's game fits the bill for the PS3.

The good:

-balanced gameplay-not too easy or hard

-good puzzles

-well written story with lots of 'inside' gags

-cell shaded graphics looks just right for the Simpson's world

The bad:

-Several of the cut scenes had some PG language that disqualifies it from being a kids game (can't turn them off).

-people under 30 probably won't get some of the gameplay gags. Not to ruin the surprises but there are some 80's arcade homage's to be found.

All in all i expected more from the Simpsons. Granted, they haven't had a real good video game since the old arcade ones, but i still though this would be the one to turn it around.

I read good reviews of it, but when i bought it and played about half way through i got tired of it, and haven't had the desire to put it back in.

The graphics seem like they're not using the PS3 to it's full potential, the controls are surprisingly sloppy, and the cell-shading can make the terrain trickier than it should be.

The stories and characters are funny, i'll say that much. It's a very well written game. But hours of sub-par gameplay can bring it down.

The shoddy controls and the semi-decent graphics make the simplest of things (Say jumping off the edge of something to get a secret item) impossibly hard. Seriously, there are a lot of packages you need to find for each character, the hard part should be finding them, not jumping a hundred times to make sure you land on it properly.

If you have an entertainment center where you prefer not to have wires spilling out the front, this is the perfect product for your PS3. It conveniently (and quickly) charges up to 4 PS3 controllers at once. But it does have a bad point that doesn't make the product terrible, but might give you pause before you purchase it.

The Goods:

1) Power Source: It's handy to be able to plug this into the wall instead of the PS3 via a USB cable. You don't have to have that wire hanging off the front of the unit all the time, which kept the glass door on the front of my entertainment center from closing.

2) Design: It can charge up to four controllers at once and has LED indicators to indicate if the controller is charging or fully-charged. It has a slim design that allows you to put it anywhere convenient.

The Bad:

1) It can be a bit tricky to plug the controller's USB socket into the one on the charge base. Out of the six or so times that I put my controllers on the charge base, there hasn't been a single time where I got the controller to easily slide on without having to gently manipulate both the charge base and controller. It can take about a minute to line up the sockets and get the controller in place, and you need to do this GENTLY.

Overall:

To me, it's worth it because of the slim design, the wall-power source, and the convenience of being able to charge 4 controllers at once. But since it can be tricky to get the controllers in to the base, I wouldn't recommend this product to kids who might get impatient when the controller doesn't slide in quickly.

After reading several reviews about this product, I was a bit concerned that it would be difficult to insert and remove a SIXAXIS controller, but that concern proved to be unfounded.

Yes, it does take a bit of lining up to get it to work, but it's so trivially easy to do that I got used to it within the first three times I inserted the controller.

What makes it tricky is that there are spring-loaded plastic nubs that are intended to hold your controller in place, and you have to push the controller past the nubs before you reach the connector. So you push a bit, then make sure the controller is lined up with the connector--which is easy to do since the USB socket on the SIXAXIS is recessed. Once you can feel that the connector within the recession, a gentle push completes the connection.

The device includes scratch-prevention stickers that you can apply to your SIXAXIS, but they really aren't necessary. Just be a bit patient the first couple times you do it, and it becomes second nature.

If you've got multiple controllers, this is an ideal product to have--it allows you to charge them in a place that may be more convenient for you than having them tethered to your PS3. If you're looking for a convenient way to charge your controllers--up to four of them--don't let concerns about how "tricky" it is to insert the controller dissuade you from purchasing this.

The product works great, it even looks great. I really like that it allows me store the controllers in one compact location. However, there is the major design flaw that everyone mentions: It is Very difficult to seat the controllers USB recactacle port onto the chrgers USB plug!!! I am very patient and gentle with the thing, but it takes me at least a good 1-2 minutes to get it to seat properly. I have already damaged the port on one controller. I design electronic products for a living, they could have easily made this product better with very little added expense.

The charger is almost an essential add-on; charging your controllers via the PS3 can take time and if you only have a single USB cable, forget it. The charger charges the controllers quickly and doesn't take up a lot of room.

Never once have I gotten the controllers plugged in without an argument. I figured it would be something that would get easier over time as I did it more, but it hasn't. You would think, given how fragile both the male and female components of the USB connectors are, that the designers would have ensured an easy slide in/out, but they didn't.

Before purchasing the charger, I was charging my controllers while using the computer via USB cables, given the system must be on to begin charging. Additionally, there is very little downtime, as it takes about an hour to fully charge the controllers. Some may find it appealing that the charger is a self-contained unit, meaning it doesn't need to be connected to the console. Thus, allowing the console to focus on what it does best without having to bear the burden of allocating energy for the controllers.

There are a few inherent drawbacks in the charger's design. However, they shouldn't be vexing enough to prevent anyone from purchasing it. Similar to everyone else's comments, it is difficult to plug in. I can't throw the controllers in the charger haphazardly. Admittedly, I read the comments prior to purchasing it, and just shrugged it off. As mentioned above, the charger provides you with a few stickers to place around the USB port, which affords you some protection against possible scratches.

The slots are very slim allowing only the controller to be inserted. If you have a silicone cover, it will need to be removed before performing the arduous task of aligning the controller for insertion. Regardless, it is still valuable tool that will integrate nicely.

NHL13 is the most impressive and frustrating entry in the NHL series. But this review specifically addresses the shortcomings of the Collector's Edition. A Special/Collector's Edition that includes only downloadable content is just fluff. There's no real content unless you want an extra boost for your Online Pro (so very insignificant) or your Ultimate Team (a bunch of Kings, Devils and Wayne Gretzky), a mode that you may or may not play. The only legitimate benefit for buying the Stanley Cup edition is not having to look at Claude Giroux and Flyer orange on the cover. But even then, he's on the disc so there's no escaping him. (He haunts my dreams.) I know most of the stuff that comes in CEs are junk. But it's junk that you can hold in your hands and show to your friends with an air of mock sincerity while they secretly consider you a fool for spending extra $20. With this edition, however, after the the novelty of beating innocent HUT players with your ageless Gretzky diminishes, the only trinket you have left is regret.

For 20 extra dollars you are getting a embossed steel case and extra DLC. The DLC is 3 ultimate team packs and a boost pack for create a pro, so if you do not play those modes, I would not recommend the product. For the ps3 edition, you also get 10 percent off a purchase on the NHL store, which i'm never going to use cause Amazon has everything way cheaper even after 10 percent, and the full NHL arcade game that is priced at 9.99 if you were to buy it separate on the ps store.. All in all, to me, this was a great deal for me as just the extra game covers half of the extra price of the upgrade. The steelbook looks very nice, and the DLC is very useful, great buy!

I have never owned a hockey game, but the playoffs got me more interested in hockey. I couldn't wait for NHL 14 to come out, so I bought the 13 edition. I have not been disappointed with it. Really enjoy the creation part and putting your own player through what an NHL player goes through. Very exciting game.

Or check the size of the "steelbook" casing? My copy wont even fit in my DVD shelf, that is made for individual discs. The casing for the Stanley Cup Edition is atrocious and cheap. It is oversized and plastic with an aluminum feeling wrapping that makes the case too large to store with other DVD's (which are already larger than PS3 and BluRay dics).

In addition, the game play is not all that changed from the 2002 version of the game. Some controls are changed, but there are too many controls and the convoluted button layout must have been rushed together or never tested...or both...because they are terrible.

Moreover, the game glitches constantly, the AI is terrible and in HUT (hockey ultimate team) EA doesn't even apologize for ripping you off. They charge you (real or in game money...which takes ages to accumulate) for digital hockey cards that can be used in your team, however, more often than not the packs are never loaded to your account and they just take your money. I have talked to EA about this and got "help" but after months still no packs or refunds.

In addition, the in game money (pucks) do not always load either, so they basically force you to pay real money for no real product.

Stay away from EA and all their titles.

Unfortunately, if you are a Hockey fan EA is the only choice for you. Hopefully there will be some competition once EA is sued for monopoly style business practices (in which EA buys out the rights to the leagues, logos and players and no one else can use) and other companies can create competitive practices and choices for the gamers. These business practices by EA are illegal and have the end result of belittling the consumer.

Again, avoid ALL EA titles if you can help it, they do not care about you, just your money.

After watching all the cool videos EA has been putting out and getting caught up in the hype of this game, I shouldn't have been surprised when I actually played the game, it is part of the Need for Speed franchise, one that's never had accurate physics. But I thought maybe Shift 2 would be different. It was being billed as an amazing sim racer, so I was expecting something on Par with at least GT4. Here's what I hated about it:

1. The physics are horrible. Like previous reviewers have mentioned, it's like driving a boat on ice. The tires seem to have little to no grip, the cars understeer more than they should, and even in a straight line the cars just seem to twitch back and forth and want to run for the infield like a race horse with a full bladder. The cars seem to suffer from what I call the Weather-Vane Effect. Cars like in

2. All the cutscenes have this Formula D person I've never heard of "coaching" you through the game. He even talks to you during races telling you to "keep pushing!" and "you've almost got this!". It's kinda like TOCA from the PS2, but just more annoying.

3. The menus. When you press the start button on your controller, you'd expect to see a pause menu that'd let you adjust various aspects of the game or at the very least so and alter the controller layout. Not here. You can only change driving assists, HUD, and audio.

4. The graphics really are nothing to write home about. From the teaser video they put out (the same one they show at the beginning of the game), you'd expect a higher level of polish in the game. It does have a little more "atmosphere" than GT5, which always felt a little too clinical and weirdly lighted, but the detail of the cars and tracks is nowhere near GT5's level.

A couple of weird quirks I saw as I was playing. Once at the start of a race, I was going to fast into a corner and slammed into the tire barrier. The screen did this weird black and white thing, which I expected, but then it seemed to place my car behind the barrier and none of my controls worked. The only thing I could do was choose to restart the race and when I did, I kid you not, my car was facing the wrong way on the starting grid! Was this game even tested before release?

I don't know if all these problems could be fixed with a patch, but I'll never buy another EA "driving" game again day 1 without reading reviews first. Like a previous reviewer said, fool me once...

I was so frustrated by how poorly the cars handled with a steering wheel in Need For Speed Shift that despite how much I liked many of the game's features I had to stop using it. I've followed the development of Shift 2 Unleashed and listened to representatives talk about how much they've improved the handling in this game, one saying it was 200% better. Of course they would fix it; enough people complained about it. Well, I guess 200% better than terrible is still terrible.

I use a Fanatec GT2 wheel with Clubsport pedals. It works beautifully with Dirt 2 on the PS3 and Forza 3 on the Xbox. Gran Turismo 5 is a little loose in the center but tuning the wheel (something you can do with the Fanatec) can compensate pretty well. From these games my experience is that the cars respond 1-to-1 with input to the wheel. If in cockpit view, I see the movement of the hands of the driver mimic my hands. It's a beautiful synergy.

Shift 2 Unleashed on my PS3 allows me to relive the total frustration of Need For Speed Shift and it's not something I ever wanted to do again. People will undoubtedly say that I haven't adjusted the dead zone correctly or I've missed some sensitivity setting. Well, I've tried the recommendations of others online and spent hours tweaking both the in-game settings and my Fanatec's settings. I was NEVER able to eliminate the loose feel of the car. Perhaps with a game pad this is not an issue but with a wheel it most certainly is. I actually played Forza 3 again just to make sure I wasn't nuts. Control was perfect, as I remembered it.

I don't want to work this hard to try and make a game playable when there are others available that work correctly straight out of the box. As soon as Amazon offers a trade-in I'll be sending it in for whatever credit I can get. I didn't even bother to use the online code. Needless to say, I will never try another EA racing title. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

But I will say I really liked the concept of Autolog and would have enjoyed matching times with my PS3 friends. Oh well.

3/30/11 I must agree with other reviewers regarding the sense of being on ice. I was so focused on the poor handling that I didn't mention that earlier. It feels like you're racing on bald tires. The car slides around in turns and gives me no confidence in the level of control. Just another nail in the coffin, unfortunately.

3/31/11 OK, further adventures with Shift 2. First let me state clearly that if Amazon offered to refund my money I would send this game back in a heartbeat but, whereas that's not an option, I'm trying to get some value out of the game. I spent a couple hours with it last night and made some progress. Basically, by turning off all assists and doing some heavy tuning in the advanced controls screen and with my wheel I was able to get the cars drivable. But it requires a change in mindset. Rather than think I'm driving finely tuned race cars on paved courses, as in Forza 3, I have to think about driving cars on dirt courses, as in Dirt 2. Once I made that mental adjustment and drove as if I was on dirt I started to get a feel for the cars and courses. It's not what I wanted when I bought the game and it's a lot of physical work as I fight the wheel but it should let me get some hours in it and some value out of it.

Bizarre that the developers could produce a game like this and think it was a true simulation. All they had to do was compare it to Forza 3 to realize they had completely missed the boat.

Also strange that they couldn't even get the gameplay clock to work. After over two hours it said I had played 14 minutes. Even if the clock is for actual race time, I know I raced for more than 14 minutes.

For future reference, if the driving game is for a console and isn't from Codemasters, Polyphony Digital or Turn 10, I'd stay away from it. :-)

3/31/11 (evening) The final chapter in my tales of Shift 2. I spent another couple hours with it tonight, reaching what I felt was the best balance between game and wheel settings to approximate a passable driving sim. Driving a Ford Focus through the first tier events it wasn't perfect but I was managing. Then I entered some hot lap events where the game provided me cars to race. It was as if I had accomplished nothing with all my tuning. These cars were all over the track and I fought with each one trying to keep it on the pavement, even doing 50 mph on a high-speed track. I've heard some people say they adjust the tuning of the controls for each car but you've got to be kidding. Then I bought a Mitsubishi for a Class C race at Suzuka, a course I know well and enjoy racing. Mitsubishis are good handling cars that I've enjoyed driving in Dirt 2 and GT5 and it had a decent handling rating in Shift 2. Well, the car continually oscillated back and forth across the track while I struggled to keep it on the drive line. I didn't even finish the 2nd of 5 laps. I turned off the game, removed the disk from my PS3 and will trade it in as soon as I can. I'm done with it.

It is very possible that if you drive using a game pad there are no issues and perhaps even other wheels are fine but if you have a Fanatec GT2 then I warn you, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Dirt 3 is coming in May and Forza 4 is coming this Fall. Save your money for them.

Back in March of this year, I was extremely excited to play Shift 2 and couldn't wait to pick it up on launch day. Reading the SpeedHunters' blog in which one of the creative directors regularly posted updates on the development of the game(Read them here: , you can see they put a lot of work in to making it as authentic as it could be.), made me even more excited then the launch of Gran Turismo 5! GT5 is still my favorite "driving" game but had many dissapointing shortcomings that Shift 2 would seem to fill.

Launch day came and I picked it up as soon as I was able and threw it in my PS3. Everything was as advertised except the dealbreaker: The input lag and forcefeed back of the wheel. I played it with the Logitech Driving Force GT, I searched all over the internet for that perfect wheel setting but never could find it. I gave it about a week and tried to like it, but it was just undrivable to me. It did so many other things right (which I will get into later) but ultimately gave up and traded it in, which I now completely regret doing.

I recently upgraded to a Fanated GT3 RS v2 wheel with ClubSport pedals. (It was a steal off of craigslist!) I love playing GT5 with this set up, but wanted to try a different game with it. Someone suggested I try Shift 2 again. I did not want to whatsoever. The game has all but been abandoned by EA and the developer has departed. But he insisted I need to give it a second chance. His reasons were that they had patched input lag, the Legends DLC was legendary (no pun, haha), and that I need to get into the mindset of tuning the cars rather than expecting them to drive perfectly right out of the box (as in GT5). So I picked up a used copy, (not giving EA more money) and gave it a go and to my surprise, the game has changed for the better! The input lag was greatly reduced, and the force feedback, whether it be my new wheel or the patch, feels so much better. With a little patience and knowledge of tuning, the cars handled better. It is now very enjoyable and giving GT5 a run for which game I play most now.

Onto the review portion. (I will be comparing it alot to GT5, thats really all I have to compare it too.)

I'll start with the bad:

-It is more of a sim than people give it credit for(not a bad thing, of course). For example, tire pressure, wear and temperature are all factored in. But on the longer (endurance races) there is no pitting, which is dissapointing given that pitting is a big part of racing in my mind. So dont wear out those tires!

-Most of the career races (except endurance races) are extremely short, only 2-3 laps which to me isn't much of a race. There is a quick race mode in which you can set laps, track, etc and can make longer races that way, but the career should have contained some longer ones.

-I liked the tutorials and videos that had real drivers, but got really annoyed with constant chatter coming from the drifter as you drive. Luckily, you can turn off that voice in the options.

-The learning curve. This is not GT5. The cars don't handle well out of the box at high speed. You have to be patient and learn the basics of tuning. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but probably turns away alot of people.

Things I thought that are good, but could have been handled better:

-The over-the-top race day flair littered on all the tracks. Look, this isnt a terrible thing. I wish GT5 had some of that race day feeling on all their tracks. (As beautifully rendered as they are in GT5, they are a bit bland and feel more like a random track day than a race day.) But Shift 2 is the complete opposite. Holy freaking billboards, flags, balloons, helicopters and product placement! I dont mind some of that, but it makes it look more like an arcade game than a sim that it is trying to be sold as. I do like that it has flag signals and a guy waving a checkered flag as you cross the finish. Something GT5 should have had...

-Engine sound. Don't get me wrong. The sound is great! Much better than GT5's sound. However, it is over the top on the stock production cars. The stock cars sound like race cars! Which is just not accurate. But on the tuned/race cars, it adds to the immersion.

-The AI is great for the most part. They race and are fast. Most of the time they do try and avoid you, I have run plenty off the road when trying to avoid me. On the other hand, they can be aggressive and ram you. I have taken some hits by the AI. Should have tuned the AI a bit to be more consistent. But still, much better than GT5's AI.

-You do have different times of day and night racing for ALL tracks. Another cool thing is sometimes there are random overcast days (no rain, though) which I read is supposed to affect the temperature of the assphault and in turn affects grip. Just wish they could have implemented a dynamic lighting system with day/night cycles, but I'm sure that is easier said than done.

-Visual customization. It is decent but not very intuitive. And why no number vinyls??? However, at least it has a livery editor so you can express yourself online. (ahem, Polyphony, take note please)

-Too many night races. Look, night races aren't a bad thing. In fact, they are exciting and dramatic in this game. I just think there are too many that take place at night. Honestly, how many real races are held at night?

-Don't know if i'm qualified to mention this as I have never driven on any of the tracks in the game, but some of the tracks may not be truly accurate to their real life counterpart. Some parts of the 'Ring feel wider than they were in GT5, for example. Not a big complaint, but noticable.

-Drifting is extremely hard.

Onto the good stuff. This game is extremely immersive and fun. Here is why:

-The car selection. Okay, so there are about 150 cars total. To many that seems to pale in comparison to GT5 and Forza 4. However, 90% of the cars are cars one would want to drive and eventually convert into an all out race car. Believe me, the selection is great and you won't find any Prius' either.

-On the subject of cars, they are not on GT5 premium models but are modeled great both inside and out. This game has the best cockpit view of any (console) game! Even has the reflection of the dashboard in the windshield. All gauges work and I personally enjoy the helmet cam. Another thing that adds to the immersion.

-The damage model is leaps and bounds above GT5. You do not want to crash in this game! It is realistic looking as well as handled realistically. It all depends on where you are hit. Unlike GT5, you will be worried about crashing!

-The number of real life tracks is phenominal. 'Nuf said.

-Legends pack is the best $10 I have ever spent. I could go on about the legends pack, but I am just going to say, get it!

-You know what? I could go on and on about the great things, but this review is getting long. This game set out to put the player in the seat of a real car and a real race and feel all the emotions a real race car driver would endure during a race. And it accomplishes just that. It is exciting, fun and honestly more realistic than what people want to give it credit for. This game is really more sim than arcade.

In closing, give the game a second chance. Go in with the mindset that you need to be patient and tune a car to your style and you will see why this game shines. I know I sounded like I was ripping on GT5, I am a huge GT fanboy, but I can be honest and say 5 fell short in many areas. Shift 2 fills the shortcomings that GT5 has. I still play both and don't have a problem going back and forth between the two. I highly recommend it.

I never write a review and never sell a game through Amazon until now! If you're a casual gamer you need to avoid this like the plaque. Like others have said, this game is near impossible to control. I was able to fine tune the car for the first few races...but then they force you to race in a car that you CANNOT fine tune, so good luck in trying to win any races because you'll be slipping and sliding all over the place. A steering wheel might help, but I doubt it. I honestly wanted to like this game and tried every suggestion online, but in the end, it's impossible for a casual gamer like myself.

Loved the first game. Tried to like this one but it just doesn't have the fun factor of the first. Handling seems a lot different (as someone put it "driving with bald tires on ice"), aggressive actions (which were encouraged and one of my favorite features of the first game)are frowned upon. I know they want to compete with the other sim games out there but the mix of arcade/sim from the first is gone and replaced with more emphasis on precision (which some will like better, just not me).

I'll give it another go tomorrow, but it looks like I'll be sticking with the first.

**Updated a few days later Tweaking the advanced steering and braking options helps a bit, but the game continues to frustrate. Don't even think of tapping or being tapped by an opponent or wall as this will result in you crashing and facing 180 degrees backwards (regardless of what you do during the spin). No way you'll get back in the race when this happens: Pause/Restart every time. This game is like walking on egg shells instead of being fun by taking chances and pushing the limits. Between focusing on not hitting anything (even a slight touch) and the mushy handling, this game is just not fun. Time to trade in. Too bad because I really was looking forward to it as the first Shift was my favorite racing game (not too arcade like Hot Pursuit/Split Second/etc and not to sim like GT5).

I tired for a couple years driving my logitech driving wheel for my PS3 on many different objects to make it work. Tables, chairs, TV trays, my lap and needless to say nothing worked that well. I thought this seat would be the perfect solution, but I was somewhat disappointed in the seat. I didn't realize it was mostly hard molded plastic. This made the seat extremely uncomfortable. This also made the seat hard to put together. On mine the bolts didn't line up exactly making it hard to put together. The steering wheel support arm mounts to the plastic seat as well with a single bolt making it less stable than a truly solid base. The steering wheel mounting plate and the pedal supports are plastic making it somewhat unstale too. It also lacked a good place to put the gear shifter. At this point I have to say even with all the drawbacks it was still the best solution I had used to date, but after a couple of weeks being miserable sitting in the seat I decided to return it. I know not everyone can afford a more expensive seat so moving up to an EVO or better may not be an option, so this seat maybe be a good enough solution. I however I decide to bite the bullet and go with a WRC that I found on sale on Amazon also. I will say it is worth ever penny of the difference. It is so much more stable because there is so little plastic in this seat. The steering wheel arm mounts to the metal frame with four bolts making it rock solid. The seat is a thick padded cushion on springs making it so comfortable I sometimes sit in the chair even when I am not playing a game, but simply watching TV. I will say the gear shift mount is a little low compared to the shifter in my real car, but still better than the options I had to come up with on the rookie seat. Bottom line: if even $200 stretches your budget get the rookie seat, otherwise the full seats are worth every penny you spend on them.

I saved a bit of money because this is my second playseat and lets face it having one is a luxury. The seat is plastic with no cushion and even though it looks like the regular seat it is not. It is a butt killer. The wheel support arm is a tad wobbly and it secures into the plastic seat so I worry about its long term durability. The seating position is also not as good as the regular seat.

This seat really improves the racing experience. I bought it to play Forza 4, and the difference in immersion between mounting your wheel on a seat like this and setting on your lap is immediately noticeable. I recommend it for anyone who wants to take their simulation experience to the next level.

It assembles easily, and can be quickly adjusted to fit taller or shorter players. The seat itself is hard plastic, but I've found it to be very comfortable. You might want to a pad of some sort if you intend to use it for extended periods, but I can easily sit in it for at least an hour without any discomfort.

The frame feels sturdy and stable, and it is light enough to pick up and move out of the way when you're not using it.
