I bought this for a friend who does not have a credit card. He already had genesis collection, and this is the same game. They didn't even bother to change the art for the games that had different art on the mega drive vs the genesis. It is exactly the same...except the trophies. He bought this just to get a second platinum trophy for beating the same game twice.

So, not worth buying if you have Genesis collection...probably not worth buying if you are a trophy chaser, and just barely worth buying if you are unemployed with a small trust fund and a goal to get more trophies than anyone else on earth (like my friend).

The games are all working and in HD. My only complaint is sometimes, it takes a few minutes to load the game startup screen, while at other times, it loads within a few seconds. I suspect it's the European CD version I'm using. Otherwise, this collection is a keeper!

Gamers will recognize structural elements from Bioshock, which, to my mind, is a very good thing. Here, however, the stealth mechanics work flawlessly, and your magical abilities aren't simply various weapons. Rather, the mechanics allow you to teleport short distances, see through walls (a la Batman, Deus Ex, Assassin's Creed, etc) and inhabit animals and other humans. Not only are these mechanics just cool, they allow you to attack objectives in a multiplicity of ways. DISHONORED is thus a game that can sustain at least a few play throughs.

TIPS:

Get Dark Vision Immediately.

Then Upgrade Blink to level 2.

Then upgrade Agility to 1, as your ability to jump higher will enable higher blinks. Agility 2 is useless.

Then get Bend time. Then STOP time. Stop time costs 8 runes, and it's worth it--especially when you want to kill Tall Boys.

My only gripe would be that the game seems to punish you for being what you are--an assassin-as killing just a moderate amount of people (in video game reality, obviously) leads to the "dark" ending. To that I ask, who hired the Church Lady as a designer on this thing? I did my best to spare non-combatants, yet the game still seems to take a dim view of killing. And I won't give anything away, but the "dark" ending is not satisfying. I was hoping for at least something bittersweet, like the end of The Searchers.

There's also no barometer to give you real-time data on how much "chaos" you're creating. However, you do get your stats at the end of a mission. So if you're going for the no-kill play through, you ca re-do that mission if you accidentally killed someone. (Unlike Deus Ex, which kept you guessing until the end--Lame.)

It would be good to have some "chaos" gradations in this game. Therefore, you could have a play through with

1. a normal ending (you killed a lot of guys because you're a badasss and they got in your way) but spared civilians, knocked out people when you could and weren't a complete psycho),

2. an ending where you were one of the Super Friends (you killed very few people).

3. a REALLY twisted ending where you played through as a complete homicidal maniac--killing everyone and their pets without compunction and without mercy and often without reason except because there's something wrong with you.

However, I simply played how I wanted--with a fairly strict scorched Earth policy--and watched the "happy" ending on YouTube. Maybe I'll do a no-kill play through at some later point.

But this is pretty nit-picky. Playing the game is really fun. I'm just a little irritated by the end (if you didn't get that).

In conclusion, if you dig first person stealth action games with broad (though not strictly open) worlds, buy this game. It's great.

I just finished a stealth playthrough of the game. To me, it was a somewhat frustrating experience, but still fun. I wanted the good ending, so I killed as few people as possible, but I did resort to direct combat at times.

Attacking people directly is not only quicker, but there is also a more satisfying array of options. The game gives you many lethal weapons, such as guns, traps and the ability to reprogram any enemy technology to target bad guys instead. There are also powers that allow you to summon rats that devour your enemies and whirlwinds that slam them into walls.

In stealth mode, there aren't very many ways to incapacitate the guards. There are crossbow bolts that put people to sleep, and you can sneak up behind people and knock them out, but that's about it. The option to knock people out does not always work as planned, either, and, even if the prompt comes up on screen, Corvo will sometimes raise his knife to block instead, usually right before the guard turns and sees you creepily standing behind him, which understandably freaks him out.

In a nutshell, if you're still deciding which way to play, stealth offers the good ending, and violence offers gameplay fluidity.

One decision I thought was strange was that the game always had Corvo carry a knife in his right hand, even if you are doing a nonviolent playthrough and even when you are only attempting to use a stealth skill such as blink. I never used the knife, but it was always there, in a space that could have been occupied by more useful abilities or equipment.

The area levels are relatively open, compared to some of the more linear games that are out nowadays, but it's difficult to fully appreciate your surroundings in a stealth playthrough. At some points, I just wanted to walk around and look at the city, which had a watercolor aesthetic I really liked, but guards are everywhere, and you have to get rid of all of them before you can explore openly.

I did not let that keep me from doing sidequests, though. I am very much a completionist, so I tried to explore all the areas fully before I left. There are many sidequests that don't even show up in your journal until you find a specific area, like saving a woman who's surrounded by rats or protecting an accused witch from overzealous guards, which helps with replayability. It was also fun to find the runes that upgrade your abilities and listen to the Outsider's (the guy who gives you your powers) take on in-game events.

Though I tried to be as thorough as possible, and though I played stealth mode, which is inherently time-consuming, I finished the game in about eight hours. The story was a little formulaic, and the only characters who were really interesting were Granny Rags and the Outsider. I did like the audiographs, though, which important characters used to record their private thoughts (Sometimes too private, actually. If I was feeling guilty about murdering someone, I probably wouldn't record myself saying so.)

Another thing that offers insight into the world is the heart the Outsider gives you, which can tell you more about characters and places in the game. The heart has a really cool voice and sometimes says interesting things about important NPC's. I was especially shocked at what it said about Piero, the scientist who upgrades your equipment at the Hound Pits Pub. Unfortunately, minor NPCs with similar backgrounds all have the same descriptions, like 'she hides her hands, which are red and raw from work,' will be a description for all women who aren't nobles or major NPCs.

The tall boys, which were featured heavily in advertisements, show up very late in the game, and, as far as I could tell, there's no way to incapacitate them without killing them, which was annoying. There was an interesting tidbit in one of the books at Lady Boyle's party, though, which made them way more interesting and sympathetic.

Despite my negativity in this review, I did like the game enough to give it three stars. I enjoyed playing a new IP, and I actually do like stealth games most of the time. Dishonored offers a lot of unique ways to get around without being seen, like possessing animals and stopping time, and it was fun to play with all the different options. The more destructive powers look promising too. Usually I can't stand to play the darker path, but for this game I'll try to give it a go so I can try out all the abilities.

I pre-ordered this game months ago, and I think it was worth it. It was exciting to play something so new and different, even if there were a few flaws. Dishonored is hard to fit in one category, so I'm not sure how to recommend it to others, but hopefully this review will help anyone on the fence about buying the game.

This game was pretty cool and kind of a refreshing play, mainly do to the fact that the player has options about how he or she wants to go about undertaking the game! You can go full bore and just kill everyone, or there is ways to sneak around, and you can also render guards unconsious if you would rather instead of killing them. On my first time through, I experimented with several different ways of doing things and I tried out all the various different weapons & abilities, just to get a taste of everything and find out how I most preferred going about things.

I only had one main gripe about the game, and it was an ever so small annoyance too: Occasionally trying to chose a weapon or skill from the wheel, (especially as you earn more abilities & such) was sometimes a bit glitchy. For example, there were times later in the game that I was trying to chose my pistol with the regular shots over this one with explosive rounds and it would give me the pistol with the explosive rounds, and so on. It was a slight bit frustrating, but fortunately that only happened every once in a while.

The game was a little shorter than I was expecting, but then again it would seem short, especially after playing on a game like Skyrim off & on throughout many months. So don't let that deter you, because the game is actually a decent length...I'd say roughly around 15 hours. And just because I had no life for 2 days and sat on my arse & played it throughout much of release day and the following Wednesday, lulz.

I'd say definitely play it though! If you like stealth & action mixed in one game with all sorts of player options throughout the game, then I highly recommend checking this game out! I for one plan to play through it at least a couple more times eventually and try out different means of getting through the game...first time through was just a trial play to get a feel for everything. Next time I'm going to get down to business! Check this one out fellow gamers! I love a good stealth/assassin game! Looking forward also to Assassin's Creed III and Hitman: Absolution!

After having this game on pre-order for months, I was thrilled with I finally got to play it. I was surprised to see there wasn't a ton of back-story in the game. Usually with games like this, you have to sit through 10 minutes of game story screens before you even start to play. So I was happy to jump right in and get started.

Graphics: 7 out of 10

The graphics were good, but by no means spectacular. What made them good was the items in the game itself were interesting to look at. Menacing Tall-Boys, abandoned buildings, artwork and such gave the game a colonial dark-age feel, but the actual detail of the final thing was a little less than mind blowing. The graphics of the city itself could have been better than it was. What was supposed to appear as a large, wide open city, instead it felt more like an enclosed island, with no other outside world.

Story: 8 out of 10

Protector turns assassin, when the empress he's charged with protecting is killed and the murder is blamed on him. After escaping jail on the eve of your execution, you begin to help a group of loyalists find the missing heir to the throne, the empresses daughter. She was taken by the same men who killed her mother, and framed you for her murder. You're charged with tasks, each one different than the others. Some involve finding documents, some finding people. The game plays out much like the game inFamous, where you chose either an evil path or a good one. Depending on how many people you kill during your missions, the city and story line changes accordingly. The game actually had a fairly predictable ending, which can change depending on how you reach to it.

Violence: 7 of 10

Not as much as many of the games out there. And not nearly as much as I thought there would be. The game previews made it look like the main goal was to go around killing everyone, but in actuality it's the opposite. You are rewarded with points at the end of each mission, and extra points are given for not killing people. While the story-line of the game makes you think you're an assassin out for revenge, the goal is actually to hurt as few people as possible along the way. You are rewarded more greatly for doing so. It's also much harder to complete the missions with out hurting anyone. Your enemies are out to kill you, and if they see you, come out in large numbers and attack. To complete each mission without violence takes a lot of work, but it's encouraged through out the whole game.

Game length: Medium-Long

The game took several days to complete and that was playing many hours each day, on the average difficulty level. It would have even taken longer had I spent the time to explore the game thoroughly, and tried to complete it without killing anyone. At one point I felt like the game was even getting a little too long, and I was ready to be at the end. I believe that was because at one point in the game, you are lead to believe you have completed it, when actually you are only about 2/3 of the way through.

Gameplay: 8 of 10

While the game starts out a bit slow, it picks up as you go along. Gaining magical powers and finding ways to use them really increases the fun in the gameplay. The more you use the powers, the better you get at using them. Physical weapons are minimal, but fun. They work well for the time frame this game is supposed to be set in. Pistols, swords and crossbows are your main weapons. You can also stealthily sneak up on enemies, and knock them out, so that you're not killing them, but disabling them as a threat so you can continue with your mission. One of the two most ominous foes in the game are the Tall-Boys, a soldier in a mean looking mechanical suite, with a powerful cannon attached that he shoots people with. You know when they're coming for you, since each step they take shakes the ground around you as they get closer. The second enemy is one you don't suspect, the rats in the streets. They come out of nowhere and attack at random times. They move in on a subject in a large swarm, and actually eat the person they attack, if they aren't able to get away first. The game does a good job of focusing on a main goal, and not jumping around so much that it makes following the story-line difficult.

Hidden items and how they work:

There are important items stashed all over the city for you to find. Some of these items give you new, much needed magical powers, some are just coins to buy things with, or extra supplies of health of magic power refills. There are books and papers everywhere, and reading them can give you even more back-story to the game, not included in the regular scenes. They offer clues on where to find hidden things, passwords to locked safes hidden throughout the game, and lots of background as to who people are you meet in the game. You are given a heart as a tool, and when you equip it, it will direct you to where many of these hidden items are. It can also tell you what the a game character is really thinking, or information on deeds from their past.

Conclusion:

While the game started out a little slow, and first impressions made me think it was too similar to the gameplay of inFamous, the rest of the game proved to me it was one of a kind. I liked that the game was set in the era of the black plague, and that much of the story line was based off the repercussions of the illness affecting the whole city. Game load times were acceptable, and glitches and lagging were pretty much non-existent, which was a relief, since Bethesda games have had issues with them in the past. While the previews make the game out to be all about getting revenge and killing as many people as you can, there's actually a lot more to it. The game actually encourages you to try and take the more difficult rout, a non-lethal approach. Plenty of hours of gameplay, and lots of hidden things to find along the way. The graphics were acceptable, but had they been better, it could have made Dishonored even better. It's a sold 4 star game, has replay-ability, since you'll likely want to do a play-though seeing the story line for both the good and the evil choices you can make.

First, I have to add the caveat that I typically HATE first person action games. I find the first person perspective to be incredibly disorienting and difficult to control. This becomes particularly problematic during sequences of intense action or where intricate stunts are required. I always feel like I have blinders strapped on that limit peripheral vision and create a confusing and claustrophobic game experience.

However I love steam-punk and dystopian story concepts and felt compelled to give Dishonored a try despite the first person POV.

I was not disappointed. Though the story starts out as a simple stereotypical quest-fest wherein some random NPC you just met starts barking orders at you which you dutifully jump to fulfill, the story eventually evolves into an intricate plot that carries you through a depressing and troubled though hauntingly beautiful realm afflicted with numerous plagues, both biological and political in nature.

Each mission is elegantly constructed and features numerous possible solutions. By numerous I do not mean that there are two or even three ways to complete your objectives I mean there are at LEAST three, probably more, ways to approach each target. This represents what must have been a painstakingly intricate process for the game's developers. The payoff is a game unlike any other in terms of its potential for player ingenuity and personal style. Literally, it is staggering to consider how many different paths are available to you.

The interesting thing about Dishonored is that you can complete the entire game without killing anyone. It's difficult especially if you try to beat the game while maintaining a flawless "ghost" achievement wherein you not only kill no one, but you perform zero non-lethal take-downs as well. One must make expert use of the available skills your character possess and be extremely patient but this option of game play is a strategic mastermind's paradise. Political targets can be taken down without assassinating them. Removing targets from power instead takes a much more political and therefore narratively more interesting tactic, thus allowing the player to become the author of some extremely rewarding plot twists.

Unlike most first person action games, the stealthy nature of game play and the specific powers available to you makes game play smooth and easy to master. The lack of peripheral perception that hampers most first person POV games does nothing to lessen your character's potential here.

But the real star of Dishonored isn't the story or the elegant game mechanics. It is the world itself. The story takes place within the city of Dunwall, which in addition to being in the grip of an illegitimate totalitarian regime is also beset with a deadly plague. The scenery, attitudes of the populace, and overall environmental tone of the game drives Dishonored. It is this prevailing pessimistic sense of doom amid a world that is yet full of wealth, privilege, and beauty that creates such a memorable and mesmerizing game experience. The illusion that this world is real and in the absolute darkest of times is so absolutely convincing and masterfully handled that the initial quest-fest feel and the occasional in-congruent hazard (there are these weird acid-spitting plants that pop up every now and then which are totally inappropriate for the rest of the game) is quickly forgiven.

The music and stylized graphics also serve to help Dishonored stand out among the myriad of new releases hitting stores this season. Although skeptical at first, I have to recommend Dishonored to any player seeking a unique and breathtakingly gorgeous game experience. This one is definitely a work of art.

The reasons why I bought the game were because 4 people could play and that it was under $20.00. I thought it would be a monster killing, zombie bashing game that wouldn't take more than a couple of hours to finish.

Boy was I wrong.

It is in fact a monster killing, zombie bashing game. However, it took us (2 players) 8-9 hours of continuous play in order to finish it.

The story is akin to those of zombie movies: The evil undead arise and a rag-tag team of teenagers are amongst the few who can fight against them. As the game advances, other type of monsters appear. Aliens, werewolves, demons and B movies cannon fodder.

There are cutscenes between missions, which help the story advance and at least let you know why you're actually walking into the wolve's den.

Gameplay is simple. You choose a character and proceed to kick evil butt in isometric view. Each character has a "reccomended" melee weapon hidden in each scene. If you get on that isn't suited to your character, he/she complaints and attacks slower with it. You can also buy and upgrade other "home made" weapons, like nail guns, flame-throwers and CD Launchers. They use ammo though, and you'll have to buy that too with crystals left by monsters when they are destroyed.

There are scenes in which you can ride a tank, buggy or hovercraft. Some have some kind of weapon, like a cannon or a machine gun. Others will just be used for transportation.

There are also in-game achievements. For example, if you find the weapon for a character during a mission, you'll discover a new suit/disguise for that character.

One of the downsides of the game (from my POV) is that the main characters are practically immortal. What happens after losing 3 lives is that you drop some of the crystals used to upgrade weapons/buy ammo and start again exactly where you died (I think you can choose another character, but I could be wrong).

There's also a versus option, in which you can just whack other players. It's not Super Smash Bros, but it is rewarding being able to deal with a human opponent using a nail gun.

All in all, it's not a bad game for $20.00 or less.

I tried the demo of this game, and fell in love with it. I bought it for a great price (10 dollars plus shipping). It has a fun, classic feel to the game play, and even though it may be more "kiddie-centric", it really has some gameplay value for older players (I'm 35!). On top of that, it has 4 player simultaneous mode! Too many games nowadays are lacking this type of feature. For parents, it's a great game to play with the kids. And it has plenty of upgradeable stuff and little tidbits to keep adults interested too (see if you can pick out all of the old monster movie cliches ;) ).

This game reminds me of a game I used to have a few years ago I think it was called "Zombies Ate My Neighbors". I've only played the demo version, but I intend to buy the full game in a few days I liked it a lot. Its not very hard you just wander around and kill zombies that get progressively more imaginative and harder to kill. It's a good thing to play when you have some energy and don't want to think too much. Actually, it some respects, its one of the best games for ps3 I've seen in a while I'm really looking forward to getting it.

I got to this game at a time I was looking for something I could play with my girlfriend, as she isn't fond of shooters. The demo alone was loads of fun, best of all, the loved it!

So I went for the full game. Colourful graphs, more funny home-grown weapons (which can be upgraded) and lots of action killing (?) the undead. It's a pretty straightforward game which was worth every penny when my girlfriend, who doesn't like gaming, asking 'so, are we playing Monster Madness today!?'.

Sadly, the game looses interest once you've finished it once, despite the side games (which are independent from the main one).

If you liked the first game, you'll definitely like the second. The core premise of the R6 Vegas games is relatively short, but white-hot gunfights in various locations. These can take place in large, open areas with lots of running; or strategic, carefully planned room takedowns where you have to worry about hostages. The AI is generally smart (and improved over the last game) and will flank you, or try to hide in dark corners. They will pop smoke grenades, use covering fire techniques, "leapfrog", and generally try to use wits as much as firepower. The locations of the game are also varied. You might have to sneak around a huge refinery, or you might have to escape a skyscraper before it blows up. It is a carefully plotted game, and very exciting, much like an action movie.

The frame-rate is very smooth, there are more levels in single-player, and the variety present in the online modes is astounding. The graphics probably won't blow you away, but this game is more about tactical choices than it is about eye-candy. The sound-effects are also top-notch, with guns and grenades actually sounding very realistic.

One interesting addition over the last game is the ability to customize your character for single-player and multi-player. There is a wide variety of faces (males and female), armor, camo patterns, and assorted gear. If you have a webcam or Eye Toy, you can put your own face on the character (it's creepily realistic). Experience points, used to unlock gear and guns, is accumulated over both single-player and multi-player modes, so you won't feel like a "noob" when you enter an online match after completing the story mode.

One warning: As of 3/21/08, the online modes are having a little trouble. This is a server overload issue, not a problem with the game. It will probably be cleared up within the coming weeks.

If you like challenging, tactical shooters, you will no doubt like this game. It's not run-and-gun like Halo, and it is definitely a very hard game (two shots and you're dead, and the bad guys are very accurate!) There are also a few minor bugs here and there, but definitely nothing game-breaking. While the graphics could have used a little more polish, and Ubisoft could have anticipated the demand for online play a little better, it's still a solid release, and might even take Call of Duty 4 out of your disc drive.

The problem that "Rainbow Six: Vegas 2" faces is that it is faced again with reinventing the wheel. First person shooters are the staple of the current generation of consoles in much the same way as driving games were for the last generation. Moreover, last year's hugely successful "Call Of Duty" iteration raised the bar for what gamers should expect from the conventional FPS. "RS:V2" delivers polished shooting action, throwing in the requisite online modes, but without really blowing the hinges off what we would expect from a FPS in 2008.

The new "Rainbow Six" generally sticks to the formula established by Ubisoft Montreal in the first outing. The squad-based Special Ops action will feel very familiar to anyone that has played that game or its stablemate "Ghost Recon" games. Graphically and sonically the sequel matches the first game, although additions such as a cover system and experience levelling set-up (where you gain points for different aspects of fighting) are welcome additions.

Although based in Sin City, the game often accents on the mundane warehouses and leisure complexes of Las Vegas, rather than vulgar casinos and the like. This is my first complaint about the game: it seems rather samey, and at least in the PlayStation 3 version, the backgrounds can seem a little sparse: grey abandoned warehouse segues to nondescript hotel complex, and so on, without there being anything really to capture the eye or the imagination. The game does not feel as cinematic, as much of an "event" as "CoD4". Similarly, the mundanity often stretches to your direction of the AI squad members: move to the closed door, open it, clear the room and then repeat. There is no real incentive to lead the charge from the front, especially as you often earn experience points from the squad's action.

The squad AI can often be irritating, too. For instance, it is not uncommon for one of your "buddies" to block your line of fire, or stand in the middle of the war zone just waiting to be shot: often the squad will not respond to orders very quickly, either. I have also noticed that there is quite marked slowdown in some sections of the PS3 version of the game, which is pretty unforgivable in a current generation game and from a top developer such as Ubisoft, to boot.

On the plus side, "RS:V2" does provide plentiful reasons for immersion in the later stages of the game thanks to the experience levelling system: there seems to be some form of progression from playing through the game at point when you would otherwise feel ready to hang up your MP5 for the night. The online "Terrorist Hunt" mode, where you co-operate with other players online is a good idea, although I have often encountered connection problems trying to access this.

An overall assessment of the new "Rainbow Six" would be that it is a good enough game, which offers plenty of challenge. However, judged by the impressive yardstick of "CoD4" and the deluge of up-and-coming releases for the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360, the game is not really individual or exceptional enough to warrant more than an extended rental play.

to start: this game took a while to load. It might have seemed even longer to me, because when I got it on the 24th of March PSN also released a Systems Update. So I had to wait for that to download/install. I started the game. RB6V2 had a patch (1.10). So I had to wait for that to download/install (this one was short). After that the game had to install itself. This took about as long as the Sys Update. It was just kind of ironic since I was anxious to get started.

RB6V2 is a good sequel. I had tried out the first, and it was just ok. The sequel is more enjoyable in my opinion. The ranking system and the new ACES system that allows for you to gain XP and weapons based on your style of play is a nice / welcome touch.

Within a couple of levels I noticed my "Marksman" and "CQB" XP rose very quickly as opposed to my "Assault" XP. So it depends on your personal style of play. Tag a headshot on a guy through a window while repelling will earn you points toward Marksman, while chucking a grenade into a room will get you well on your way towards the next Assault tier. And every other level rewards you with another weapon; while the Ranking system (total XP) seems to be more geared towards personalizing your character.

I especially liked this feature, and am looking forward to unlocking some features later in the game. Just remember that while outfitting your character, certain camo-styles are NOT appropriate for all terrain/situations!

(Kinda like Corky Romano, Brick: "Nice tie." Corky: "Thanks!" Brick: "It should give some lucky sniper a nice target to aim for.")

I also like how you can play through Single-Player (or Co-Op) to gain XP, which can be used Online as well. CoD4 had a similar system, but XP was only gained for ranks, and could only be gained online.

Heh... speaking of which, unfortunately it took me a second or two to get used to the controls after playing CoD4, the L1 is now "Cover" as opposed to the Weapon Scope, which is R3. Made for a couple "interesting" firefights when I first started.

While the first installment of Rainbow Six Vegas flew under the radar the first few months it was out, the sequel has been eagerly anticipated by the large group of enthusiasts who swear by this franchise. Well here it is. This is not your average sequel! The folks at Ubisoft Montreal knew they had a good thing, and merely improved the game where they deemed fitting, and left alone what worked. New to this game is an experience system that encompasses EVERY game mode this time around, rather than just online multi player. A useful 'sprint' command has been added to the game, which allows you to run faster in short bursts. The graphics are very similar to the first game, just a bit more crisp and refined. This game also still can boast the most realistic weapon physics of ANY fps out to date. Even if you have never played a Rainbow Six game before, RSV2 is a perfect place to start. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

First off, I will say that I am not a fan of games where you simply run around and shoot things. Granted, some days you just need to do that in a video game, but for long-term fun it just simply does not occur. I am more of a fan of strategic games and absolutely loved the "Rogue Spear" title way back in the day ("Rogue Spear" is a mix of first-person shooter and strategic planning for multiple teams). Knowing little about what the Rainbow 6 franchise moved to, I purchased this title thinking it would be more like "Rogue Spear". Unfortunately, it was not.

Now, that's not to say that I hated this game. The storyline was quite interesting overall and there is clearly an effort to tie it in with a general Rainbow Six master storyline. When playing, it does move towards being a "run around and shoot stuff" game, but it keeps some strategic elements to it that I hoped for. For example, you have two assisting Rainbow Six swat officers that you can command around, such as sending them to clear a room, throw grenades, or hold position while you survey the area. This is a "bottom-up" strategic approach, which is better than nothing in my mind, but I really hoped for a more "top-down" strategic approach. The AI seems a little dumb... you can shoot terrorists by firing off a gun repeatedly, yet their buddies a level up seem to only think that "something might be up." It's a step-up from older games where you could shoot one terrorist and his pal would continue smoking a cigarette over the dead body, but it's still a little peculiar.

Overall, if this had been only a game where you shot things, I would have given it 2 stars. I gave it one more star for a creative story and another star for the "bottom-up" strategic planning. It's certainly not the best game I've ever played, but it was not a total waste. At the very least, the multiplayer/terrorist hunt element can provide some entertainment.

A note on the downloadable content:

You get 5 really sweet Chrome Line cars (427 Shelby Cobra, BMW M3, Audi R8, Lambo Mercy, MB 300SL).

A note on the "Collector's Edition":

-I destroyed the custom packaging trying to get the game out; "Custom" equates to a bigger box with fancier cardboard.

-The keychain is decent, but I probably won't use it for anything.

-The die-cast model is cool albeit a little on the small side.

-The book is awesome. It has tips on everything from suspension and engine oil to the rule of thirds when taking pictures. There's also a listing of all the car makes/models in the back.

If you have your own music on the PS3, I recommend making a playlist of driving music before starting the game. You have the option to play your own music while racing.

The game asks if you want to install data files onto the PS3. This is supposed to speed up various processes in the game by taking up 8GB of HDD space. Just as a word of warning on this, the prompt says 20 minutes, but it was twice that for me, in addition to various initialization screens. This could be because of my aftermarket HDD. I don't know for sure. Also, be careful when peeling the silver sticker off the promo insert. You don't want to risk tearing the paper and losing your downloadable content.

I also wanted to give a shout-out to Amazon for delivering it to me 5 days earlier than estimated.

Car notables for me in GT5...

Old:

Plymouth Superbird

Mercury Cougar XR-7

RUF CTR "Yellow Bird"

New:

Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 Super Veloce

HPA Motorsports FT565 Twin Turbo Audi TT

It's like GT had a high school reunion, but also invited the new kids.

New GT5 features:

-You need to create a driver BEFORE you start any races. I assumed that the game wouldn't let me use DC cars in A/B-Spec races so I blew my seed money on a used car out of ignorance.

-Selectable Soundtracks You can choose from various music genres.

-B-Spec is comparable to GT4, but a new feature is that your driver will get agitated by his surroundings, i.e. the computer getting all Dale Earnhardt on your bumper.

More to come.

Please note, this is a review of the value added items included with the Collector's Edition of Gran Turismo 5. A proper review of the game itself is not possible without investing a great deal of time in it, as Polyphony Digital has packed this game with SO MUCH content for absolute automotive enthusiast to digest(this is a good thing!)

Collector's Edition Box and packaging: It's an attractive package/box that folds open, encased in an embossed, branded slip cover. Will look nice on display. Upon folding the box open, the spine, glue, and binding separated, leaving ugly exposed white portions, like a poorly removed sticker. This was disappointing. The contents on the other hand, were neatly packed and fit into each compartment with no risk of destroying the packaging when removing each item or placing them back inside.

The stainless steel keychain looks good from far, but on close inspection, mine had visible pitting and burrs. Laser etching of the GT5 logo was good, but the machining of the keychain itself was poor. I've seen Chinese manufactured, unlicensed GT branded stuff of better quality. Kind of disappointing. Nonetheless, it's still going on my keychain.

The die cast GT5 R35 GTR is really sweet. Very good detail work, decal placement is precise, and will make for a great addition for collectors of die cast cars. I would have preferred a die cast Mercedes SLS or a Ford GT, but the GTR is really quite well done.

The Apex car guide is a nice little book. Not quite large enough as a coffee table piece, but the content is great. The book goes into great detail with the minutiae of various motor's inner workings, driving dynamics, and many other automotive related subjects. I did notice a couple editing errors (duplicate words, missing punctuation), but they are easily overlooked. The content is very Japanese centric in its approach to notable automotive historical events; this may upset some people. Paper stock is ok, but mine had some waviness to the pages. I anticipate that I'll read this book several times, over a series of bathroom trips.

Unlockable cars (M3, 427 Shelby Cobra, Audi R8, Murcielago, 300SL) are very cool.

Certificate of Authenticity It's authentic alright! Just don't believe you have a super rare thing with the collector's edition. My serial number was in the 42,000's-that's more Collector's Editions out there than sales numbers in a year for some games.

Overall, the Collector's Edition value added items are good, but the quality is hit and miss. I am satisfied with the purchase, but if I wasn't in such a rush to play this game after waiting for so long, I would wait until after Christmas when you could probably snag the Collector's edition for a bit less. I'd recommend the Collector's Edition for hardcore fans of the series and fans of all things automotive.

As far as the game goes, I am greatly enjoying it so far and looking forward to the countless hours I will inevitably spend trying to get 100%.

Amazon kept sending me emails to review this product, well here my review. Basically the controller feels like a XBox 360 controller, but that is the only good part about this controller if you like 360 controllers. When it arrived it didn't work. The clip that holds the battery pack in didn't hold it. If you give the controller a shake the pack goes flying. I had to stretch out the batttery coils just to get it to power up. Once it started working, I had to download an update from my PC, just so I could sync the controller to my PS3. The USB cable that was in the package was a little thicker than dental floss and didn't work, had to use a different cable to update and sync. More than half of the advertised features don't work. I tried to contact Datel Support, to try and figure out why the features didn't work, it's been more than month and still haven't received a response. I can't even say that this is a good cheap controller because it costs as much as an official Sony controller. If you want a headache, a controller that you will need to use tape to hold the battery pack in place,or a controller that isn't going to work right out of the package, then this is a controller for you. If not stay away from Datel controllers.

The instructions that come with the device are pretty vague (inadequate), you must download a more complete manual.

The software (download that also) is very easy to use.

However, be aware that until you PAIR this device with your PS3 only a DATEL LOGO will appear in the LCD.

To Pair (first time only)

Your PS3 must be on. Hold down the 'PS' button on the DATEL EVO for about 3 seconds.

Now you can start the PS3 via the PS button just like the standard controller.

Testing this is Sniper mode pretty cool however the controls even in the fast mode are not as responsive as a standard Sony sixaxis.

I'll post more as I experience this unit.

I bought this controller from Datel's website. Upon recieving the controller i was very frustrated with it. The screen would just flicker and couldnt get anything to work. Well, the first thing to do was I downloaded the user manual from the website and the PC program "PS3 Evo Customizer" When I pluged the controller into the PC the program said there was a firmware update, I did that and that got rid of the screen flickering and any other issues I have had with it.

This controller has ALOT of features and the PC program allows you to drag and drop new features into it. I also have a modded factory Sony PS3 controller and I would recommend that to anyone before this one, however it is a good controller and I really like the button remapping and thumbstick tweaking for sniper use. This looks ALOT like XBox's MW3 controller as well but alittle more chunkier. Overall I would recommend this but it will never beat a modded factory PS3 controller, BUT! I've used alot of 3rd party contollers and this is by far the best I have used. As a bonus, you can even use the Microsoft XBox 360 Battery pack in this as well.

Exactly the part I needed, note that the battery itself fits into the controller, but depending on which model controller you may end up with old battery internal cradle or the battery might just end up plugged in with nothing securing it in place...either way it work great and at the price so worth it. The USB cables were all standard, though short. Shipping cost more than the part itself ...only downside.

Splatterhouse returns with a big "Splat" and brings back a classic game with a bit of twist. In the original Splatterhouse, the premise is simple, Rick is killed and with the help of a demonic mask, returns to exact revenge and reclaim his girl. The story remains more or less the same but with a few changes, after all, this is a relaunch of the series and not exactly a remake.

The first level prepares you for the challenges ahead while previewing the powers you will eventually be able to use to obliterate the forces of evil. The mask has a more Willem Dafoe's green goblin personality and assist you in rescuing your helpless girlfriend. A few classic enemies return and new ones await in Dr West's mansion.

Overall the game is fun but a lot of the enemy characters are used over and over again, so half way through the game you will have seen all the monsters and demons you will demolish along the way. Hidden pictures of Jennifer are scattered along the way and once revealed add a bit of an incentive to find them all (especially if you are trophy hunting).

In addition to the main game, there are challenging bonus stages that challenge you while not been overly frustrating and during the main game you can unlock all three original Splatterhouse games, so in effect you get four games in one. A great value to any Ps3 collection.

If God of War and Dante's Inferno had kids, Splatterhouse would be the crazy emotionally disturbed adolescent that lives in the basement. Great aspects from both games that i loved in both games are in this one. Dante's inferno had a more sexual theme to it than GOW so what does Splatterhouse have? Hidden pictures of your naked girlfriend scattered throughout the game that you can put together and veiw as sort of amateur porn pics. Gow had great visuals and story. Unfortunately Splatterhouse has none of these but when you get a game where you grab an enemy and dismember it in a text based minigame you can't help but compare it to GOW.

Visually as i said this game does not compare to GOW or Dante's Inferno. It looks and plays like Afro Samurai except for TONS of blood, Humor and endless ways to kill your enemies.

Gameplay can be a bit hard to figure out. You can't really stand up and mash buttons til everyone on the screen is dead (not until you unlock a bunch of skills first atleast). You have to use the block/roll button for defense if you get surrounded or if you unlocked certain skills you can bulldoze your way through it or just grab the nearest enemy and swing them 360 til you have enough room.

One cool aspect of the game is the healing feature that uses spilt blood that you have accumulated by killing enemies to heal yourself. Which is incredibly useful if your getting your ass kicked and your surrounded by a ton of enemies, you just throw out spikes that literally suck the blood out of the nearby enemies completely refilling your health.

Fun factor all depends on how much gore you can stand. If you think gutting a centuar in GOW3 was gross then you haven't seen anything yet. In Splatterhouse Rick opens the mouth of a enemy snapping the skull from the jaw then shoving his hand down their throat pulling out the lungs and throwing them on the floor. If your opposed to that type of gore and violence then this game might not be as fun for you.

Update and Spoiler alert sorta: Sickest part of the game is pulling out the sphincter of a mutant demon frog man.

Much like Afro Samurai the music was a great compliment to the game but unlike Afro Samurai this game is not Repetitive or easy.

Beating certain chapters of the game unlocks the original Splatterhouse games (1,2 & 3) as well as different versions of the survival arena where you go to a certain level and beat wave after wave of enemies until you die.

Overall great game for fans of blood and violence period. If you want something that looks amazing buy God of War: Collection/God of War III. If you want something other than GOW with an incredibly perverted storyline from begining all the way to Satan's dong swinging end battle then Dante's Inferno Divine Edition is for you. If you want a game that is all about blood, gore, violence, humor, heavy metal and beating enemies with dismembered parts of your or your enemies body then get Splatterhouse. It has lived up to my expectations and it just might surprise you how much fun it really is.

Buy Splatterhouse Now

This game is exceedingly gross, which the producers know . . . they said that on one of their interviews I read off of gamespot, but . . . it is addictive!

In the absence of a review from any of the major critic websites--due in part to, I guess the Thanksgiving holiday and people actually taking a break from their jobs to enjoy themselves and relax, everyone needs to--I thought I'd put up a quick review to get things going.

This review is based on a 30% completion rate, so I still have more to go, but after probably close to 10 hours, I think I'm safe as to sharing an opinion as to what it's all about.

Yes, it's worth full price. Definitely. I was very skeptical at first, I though it would be like Golden Axe, playing off of a strong name, but being one of the worst ever games to play. Not at all! They took the title and improved upon it. If you were around to play the original games from Genesis and the arcade version, never saw that one in an arcade myself, but I remember seeing the Genesis version and wanting to buy it, but I had my Nintendo, this game is all of that gory fun x10. Be ready to see blood splatter. The game is fun in that it knows it's gross, and at one point, **one line spoiler alert** the actor for the mask even says, "That right there is why we got a f#$@in' "M" rating." Funniest line so far breaking the 4th wall.

There is no repetition in this game. There are a variety of evil demons to kill, and then there are similar ones, but they have different colorings and slightly different move set, just enough to keep things fresh throughout the whole game.

The most challenging part for me so far was Stage 3. Near the beginning you're jumping from roof top to roof top, but there's one part, where if you miss, I had to restart the game to reset the timing on it so the roof didn't collapse down around me before I was able to make the jump. So, you'll play for the challenge, but some parts where you just have to memorize the sequence in order to make it past, yes it's challenging and that has kept me playing it for the payoff reward when I finally do get through, but if you don't like that kind of game play it could be a major turn off point.

I also thought I'd like this game because the old ones were thrown in free, but once you get to today's current graphics, while there is some nostalgia about playing the older games, you'll be thankful the developers cared enough to really concentrate on this last iteration and pack if full of new material and new challenges. This is without a doubt a mature game, wouldn't want to play this with children in the room. But on the upside, it reminded me a lot of the first Ninja Gaiden Sigma and a little like God of War. Once you get past the learning curve, seeing all the ways you can obliterate enemies even starts to make you chuckle. I can only imagine the design teams meetings when they were thinking up all of this stuff. Someone asks, "Another question . . . how else can we make it more gory?" But the challenge is undeniable, the graphics are smooth, but some of the sequences can be frustrating, and one more of my biggest peeves, not enough variation in the load screens. I'd rather have a spinning mask than some of the creatures it shows while the game reloads after you die.

I rented this, but it is worth the money. I'll most likely grab a copy for Christmas. Fun game that you must give a try.

I don't usually play modern beat 'em up's. I never tried any God of War game at all, as the theme just doesn't appeal to me. However, I always liked the original Splatterhouse on Turbographix 16, and this game was on my wish list for a while. It is a wonderful specimen of modernization while retaining all the details from the original. A lot of the reviews said that the game had broken controls, buggy, etc. Well that's just not true. Technically it plays smoothly and enjoyably with no bugs at all. It is challenging from a gaming perspective, but so was the original, and I'm glad that this new one isn't a total cakewalk. You have to actually know what Rick's moves are, and use them for certain enemies, rather than just button mashing. You can get a good little beat 'em up trance going when you're in the zone. The 2d parts are great; just what fans of the original would want. At first I thought the graphics looked odd and couldn't put my finger on it until I realized that they were using the same weird palette of colors that the original had. Quite unsettling for some reason. The story elements are simple, fast paced, unobtrusive, and fun, as they should be. I read that this game lost all support from Namco shortly before release due to company leadership shake ups, thus a sequel is unlikely. That said, I am super happy to have gotten this game at all, and will probably play through again--something else I don't do too often in modern games. I like that it's short enough to beat in a weekend. I can't tell you how many times I enjoyed beating Contra, or Bionic Commando, or Splatterhouse over and over. This modernization retains that kind of feel. Go ahead and order it. Splatterhouse still rules!

Splatterhouse is a decent game. Not stellar by any stretch of the imagination but decent overall.

Lets start with the good:

The graphics are solid and it's evident that the developers put a good deal of time into creating a detailed, interesting and appropriate atmosphere. The creatures you battle are creative and varied and overall the game succeeds in this category.

The voice work is above average and there are plenty of humorous comments scattered about to break up the monotony. The soundtrack fits the game play. You may not like heavy metal but really, what else would fit a game where you are basically destroying everything in your path?

The mechanics of the game are good when you are fighting and moving around throughout the levels, with one noted exception which I'll address later. Make no mistake, this game is a button masher. Yes, there are combos you can learn as you work your way through the game but they are just more button mash-y goodness.

A plus with the game is the ability to restore your health during battles. This feature impacts the game significantly. Early on it makes it practically impossible to die but as the battles get harder, you'll need it believe me.

The game is a gore fest. I mean an arm ripping, decapitating, sick, twisted, bloody, mutilated, gore fest. It's called Splatterhouse so what did you expect? This is good for some I suppose but read on and see that it can be bad as well.

Now onto the Not-So-Good:

My number one complaint about this game without a doubt is the platforming portions. First off, they seem gimmicky and don't really fit the game overall and no, I don't care about any throw backs to previous games. Worse yet is the fact that they are fixed camera and the camera is almost always in an awkward position where you can't really see what you are doing. When you need the camera beside you, it's positioned behind you, etc. It adds a layer of difficulty that is just irritating and completely unnecessary. Then to make matters worse, the controls while playing these areas are not nearly as responsive as they need to be. For example, you have to sprint past some giant something-or-other that is trying to squash you but your character keeps on running even after you release the button so you typically run into some other object that smashes you or slices you in half, etc. Nice, lovely. The same is true for rolling under objects too. Jumping thankfully doesn't seem that bad but the other moves mean you'll get to play the same section over and over again.

Another issue is with the LOAD times. They are ridiculous. I'm not talking about load times between chapters either, I'm referring to the load times when you die. Get used to seeing the same scrawny monster load screens because they are frequent and way too long. If you are a player that is having problems and dying a lot, who knows how many hours you'll see of the load screens. Seriously.

The game is a gore fest. Now, again I'm not saying that is a bad thing because it is called SPLATTERhouse but there were times when I was on a killing rampage and there was so much blood splattered all over the screen that literally I couldn't see the characters, including the enemies. I mean, blood splattered all over the walls, ceiling and floor is fine but is it really necessary to have it completely coat the camera lens? No, it is not.

So in summary, this game is decent, pure button mashing, mindless fun. The kind of game you can pick up and play a bit and then move on. I wasn't expecting much in the way of storyline so I wasn't disappointed. If you were a fan of the previous Splatterhouse games then buying this is probably a no brainer. It is a great looking shiny upgrade to previous versions. If you are looking for deep or complex storyline, then look elsewhere. Personally, I think the game is worth the purchase but not at full price. Buy it when its on sale, pick up a used copy or rent it first and see if you like it.

It is a very good thing that this controller is only around $6, because it is a complete rip off.

I'll start with the good though:

-The buttons are all very smooth

-All the PS3 Controller accessories I got for it fit perfectly (trigger extensions and Keypad)

-It can be run on a PC immediately without needing to install any 3rd party drivers.

The bad:

It claims to be a PS3 off-brand controller lacking only the Sixaxis motion control. But in reality, it is lacking pretty much everything.

-It has no motion control like it says

-It also has no rumble

-It has no pressure sensitivity in the triggers

-It has no internal chargeable battery or Bluetooth.

-Both the joysticks and the triggers have a -massivedeadzone of about 15-20% (meaning you have to move them beyond that threshold for it to register)

-The joysticks have extremely low accuracy. It was one thing when I was having a complete mess of a time trying to use the joystick to control the cursor, but even moving the character through 8 directions in a game was a mess. As an example, I could move the joystick up and about 35-40 degrees to the right, and the character would still be moving straight forward.

-The R3/L3 (Joystick) buttons are unbelievably loud; pressing them is like popping the tin lid on a jar.

-It is spectacularly frail and shoddy. It feels sturdy, but after about a week, like others have said, one of the joysticks has simply started to weaken and lose it's center. It now occasionally drifts off to the side without touching it.

The shipping was incredibly fast, which I was very pleased with, so you can understand how excited I was when I opened up the box. So I plugged it into my computer, set it up to play Call of Duty 4, and it worked great! Though after about five minutes of using it, the mouse started drifting all the way to the left. I tried using a different cable (I just so happened to have the same type of cable it came with), tried using a different USB port, and even tried using a different configuration program, but all of my attempts at trying to make it work were futile. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Just because it's cheap, doesn't mean you need to buy it. Invest you're money in a controller that's made by a well known company.

I am not certain if this is simply because I am using it on the PC and there are no specific drivers available for it so it just uses the HID compliant driver, or if this controller really does not have Dual Shock capabilities, but Windows 7 does not believe it does. That is the only thing that kept me from giving this 5 stars. Luckily, I could care less if the controllers shake in my hands when I play a game, so it is great for what I need. I bought two of these and they are solid, high-quality, and come with a long USB cable, so I do not have to sit right on top of my PC when playing. I do not have a PS3, so I cannot review how they work with that, but with Windows 7, the are fine.

This controller is excellent. When I first received it, yes I was amazed at the obvious knock off qualities but I didn't expect anything else when I purchased it. I bought this controller to play games on my PC, and works great on both my desktop and laptop PCs. Some games will recognize it right away, others (like Kingdoms of Amalur for example, which is very picky) need x360ce to get it to work because it wants the XBOX controller. You just have to get used to the XBOX button names is all (if you're used to the PS3 controller).

I have had no problems with the sticks not responding correctly or anything like that, it really works like a charm. The only time it gets a little weird is when you have to map keyboard buttons, which will usually be a little weird anyways. In comparison, I also bought the SteelSeries 3GC Dual Vibration PC Gaming Controller for 19.99 from Gamestop because I had a giftcard, which was broken out of package, and has been nothing BUT an uncooperative pain! THIS controller however, is an extremely pleasant surprise and I will be buying another as soon as I can. So if you buy this and it doesn't work, just don't give up so easily every game is different and there are some emulators out there that may help. Personally, I would give it a higher rating if I could, I am that impressed with its abilities!

UPDATE: It is now December 4, 2012 and the controller has worked well until this date when it ceased to be recognized by any of my computers. I have emailed the manufacturer to see about redeeming the Lifetime Warranty and will update when I get word on how to resolve the issue I apologize to anyone who was influenced by my review to purchase this item, as it was apparently too optimistically hasty. :( I will leave my previous review to show the error of my ways..

LAST UPDATE: Now December 9, the company Gator Crunch (listed as the manufacturer "Lifetime warranty For first 30 days contact Amazon directly for return/exchange, after 30 days contact Gator Crunch directly for warranty service") informed me that this seller (GyroTek) is selling "knockoffs" of their product. (A knockoff of a knockoff?? I don't know, whatever) Anyway, Amazon is taking care of my issue and will be giving me a refund since Gator Crunch claims that this is not their product and the selling of this item by GyroTek is fraudulent. I'm still confused, but happy I guess because the item is completely dead now, and I can choose not to buy another which I won't. Next time it will be Logitech or something this one worked fine for awhile, but I definitely want one that will work for longer than (almost)a month and a half.

Want Game Controller for PC or PlayStation 3 (PS3) Discount?

Alright, so I bought one of these mainly to replace my Logitech Rumblepad that I've had for years. I love the layout of Playstation's controllers because of the d-pad not being one circular piece. Anyway onto the review of this controller.

When I first opened it up, I noticed IMMEDIATELY that ALL the buttons, except for start and select, were extremely stiff. I figured hey its new...just gotta break it in. I played with this controller heavily all day and everything is still just as stiff. Not a huge gripe though as all buttons work.

The controller performed at an acceptable level for the games I was playing on PC (Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, some old emulators, etc). The controller feels very lightweight, almost like the original PS3 controllers. The usb cable it uses to plug into the PC and PS3 is about 6 feet long, so definitely a good length. There is no brand of any kind anywhere on this controller. Not even "Dualshock" like it shows in the picture. The only words I see is start, select, and the numbers above each light up square to tell you which controller you are (1, 2, 3, or 4). Overall for the PC, I would say performance is definitely acceptable, especially for how cheap this controller is. Also, I never had any vibration happen while playing on PC.

I decided to also try it out on my PS3. For great testing purposes, I decided to try out Call of Duty Black Ops. First I played with 9 bots on the easiest difficulty, then I played a match of zombies on kino der toten. Wow....this is where the controller is ugly. When you move the joysticks just a slight bit, nothing happens. You have to push about 20% in the direction you want to go before anything happens. Very easy to overdo it. Also noticed, while trying to sprint, that when the joystick is pushed all the way in any direction, you can't push down to click L3 or R3. This is a HUGE problem for games like Call of Duty where you sprint while moving. That, in combination with the dead zone on the joysticks, really makes it hard to like it for PS3. The controller DID vibrate while I was playing Call of Duty, so the function is in there somewhere, just don't expect strong vibrations like what Sony's controllers offer.

So, overall, I would NOT recommend buying this controller for PS3. Sure it does the job, but just barely. Maybe if you were playing a game like Littlebigplanet or an RPG or something like that then it wouldn't matter as much, but for precision, this controller is definitely lacking. Other than that, this thing is GREAT for what you pay for it. My total with shipping ended up being under $12 bucks! You just can't beat that. Oh yeah, one last thing. There is NO BATTERY in this controller, meaning that it ALWAYS has to be plugged in. I was hoping I could just sync it up with my PS3 and just charge it with my PC, but unfortunately that isn't the case.
