How games like this get overlooked while mediocre games like Rainbow Six Vegas get all the hype, I'll never know. What a little gem of a game. If you're a fan of Sci Fi shooters, you'll like Timeshift. First the bad. The story is almost non existent. But what it lacks in story, it makes up for in gameplay. In the beginning, I found using the time shifting abilities a little cumbersome. But once you get used to it, boy does this game get fun. The graphics are excellent, the guns are cool. The environments are varied and challenging. The enemies are smart and will flank you fast. The game never feels redundant. One of Timeshift's greatest assets however is the checkpoint system. I HATE games where if you die, you have to repeat the last 6-10 minutes of gameplay you just finished before you died. This can ruin what might be an otherwise decent game. That never happens in Timeshift. The checkpoints are perfectly placed. It becomes apparent that the developers put autosaves just before really challenging parts. A huge plus! All I can say is don't let this game pass you by. I am a fan of shooters like Resistance, Halo, Call Of Duty franchise, and in my opinion Timeshift is just as worthy a shooter.

I checked the other reviews first before buying this game and wasn't sure what to expect. The beginning was okay but then the game opened up into a real good time. This isn't just a shooting game but a thought game at the same time. Learning to use the suits power to adjust time to proceed are fun. The weapons get better and better as the game progresses. I'm playing it for the second time and it's even better.

In short, I've never seen a game look better, run better, or play better on the PS3.

It runs with my DualShock 3? Rumble on the PS3? This has to be a first.

More? It has at least 22 hours of Single Play, some of the fastest multiplay, and the best framerates I've seen to date on this platform. What is interesting is that in a side-by-side, often folks seem to think the PS3 looks better than the Xbox 360. How often do you hear that?

Lastly, after hours and hours over the past couple of days on the highly configurable (over 40 choices for play-types, and settings) multiplayer ripping and playing well at both low and high pings?

I'm a fan. Thank you, TimeShift. There's finally a shooter (that works and works well) with PC Shooter pacing and console playability on the PS3. Happy Boy Here.

Let me start of by saying that we've played them all: Halo 1-3, Gears of War, Black, Call of Duty 1-4, Lost Planet, Doom 3, Resident Evil (all of them) Rainbow Six Las Vegas 1 and 2, and on and on. So it goes without saying that we are FPS shooter fans first and foremost, and are hard to please when it comes to this genre. Given the reviews of this game, we weren't expecting much, but thought, you never know. Well surprise, surprise, this really is a very good FPS...The storyline may be derivative of games like Half-Life, and is certainly not it's strong point. Nonetheless, the graphics are great, the weapons unique (the crossbow with exploding bolts in particular), and the environments great to get around in. The game really shines, however, with the ability to manipulate time. This is a feature that no other game that we have played really has, and it adds a cool dimension to the combat sequences. It's great to sneak up on an group of enemies, plant a grenade, sneak out without them noticing and then watch the whole lot of them blow up in real time. This feature also gives one the ability to destroy enemies in a variety of different ways over and over again, thus making what is essentially a linear game very multi-dimensional.

It may not be Halo or Gears of War, but few games are that caliber, that being said, it's a lot of fun and well worth the price.

A madman betrays his fellow scientists and steals a time-jumping super suit, leaving a timed explosive in his wake. In a last-ditch effort to save himself, one researcher jumps into the other prototype suit that they have and chases after him. What he finds is a world where the use of future technology has allowed said madman to become an unstoppable fascist dictator. That's the plot of Timeshift, a first person shooter for the PS3 that combines Half Life 2's dystopian future with Prince of Persia's time-changing abilities.

The main abilities in the game focus on the suit's time-warping, which can slow down, stop, or reverse time for short periods. Slowing time will increase your reflexes and agility, boosting your fighting ability. It also has a fairly long effect before it runs out of juice, so it's a good one to use during regular firefights. Stopping time has two different effects: one, it allows you to move among the enemy even less impeded than in slowed time, allowing you to literally grab the guns from their hands as they stand frozen in place. The other effect it has is on physics and the world; teetering boards that in other games would lower if you stood on them can be frozen in place and used as a solid walking platform, and water can be run across like solid ground. Reversing time is useful only in certain situations; unlike Prince of Persia, the player character is not moved by the reversing of time (so you can't pull yourself out of dangerous falls or whatever). What you can do, however, is undo damage done to, say, a bridge, so that you can cross before it gets destroyed again. You can also use it to free yourself from a sticky grenade that has caught onto you. The effects from these are pretty cool, and also tie into the health system (which regenerates over time); you can use time effects to surprise your enemies, run to cover, escape an ambush, or just plain beat up your foes. The time effects are definitely the best part of the game.

The FPS part of the game comes from the guns used by the player. However, they're almost all textbook weapons pistol, rifle with grenade launcher, shotgun, sniper rifle, and so on. There's nothing particularly noteworthy in the field of firearms, and they're mostly there to give you something to shoot with when you freeze or slow time. The controls are weird and unintuitive, and they can't be changed except for a single button switch.

The graphics and sound in the game are nice, but not excellent. The sound especially is fairly mediocre, though there are some interesting enemy responses to your time-shifting ("He just appeared!" "What just happened?!?"). The characters are bulky and odd and don't seem natural for whatever reason. None of the designs are particularly good; all of them have the same "future trooper" motif.

As a whole, this game has one neat element and a lot more mediocre ones. If it had been more developed, then it would've been enough, but it doesn't feel like the inclusion of one cool thing is enough to carry the game.

Features choice of playing game in English or Japanese audio with English or Japanese subs. Great for all levels of Japanese language study. Game was also really entertaining too roles pretty smooth like a movie with a pretty gripping story that involves you with the 4 different characters you play. Only bought less than month ago and going through game 2nd time how you play changes story flow quite a bit.

Item arrived fine, packaged in a single mailer with 2 small zip-lock type bags, one for each set of pieces. Product appeared as shown and described, however when I went to install the items in my controller, I found that there were two "O" buttons in one of the bags. As the buttons have guide tabs to fit the controller, I had to use the "X" button from the other set, so I was only able to get one complete set from both sets of pieces. This isn't a big deal to me as I was planning on only modding one controller, but is worth noting.

UPDATE: after a few months of use (bought in early november, 2009, it's now Jan 5th, 2010) the face buttons have begun to malfunction quite badly, sometimes they don't even engage. The shoulder buttons are also not very responsive anymore, if you don't press them in HARD they will mostly not function. The sticks and battery life are still good, but that doesn't matter now.

I am leaving my original review since that was what I experienced when I FIRST bought the controller, it is now headed for the trash. I am back to the dualshock 3, even though the sticks are in the wrong place, it's in perfect condition after much heavier use than this thing.

I wish I would have listened to the other reviewers, this is a waste of money. I apologize to anyone who bought this thing after reading my review.

----original review below----

This controller does what it says it does, it's basically an xbox 360 controller clone for the PS3.

There are only a couple of downsides to it in my opinion:

-the triggers are almost worse than the dualshock 3, the shape is better than DS3 but the feeling is downright awful with them.

-it requires a dongle to be plugged into the ps3 at all times. This isn't that big a deal, but it can be annoying.

-it turns itself off automatically and sometimes gives me a hard time reconnecting to the console, sometimes it won't come back at all without plugging it in via USB.

-it's not as comfortable as it should be, the "wings" are very narrow which forces your hands inwards, which creates discomfort after playing hard stuff.

-the analogue stick buttons (clicking down on the stick) is VERY loud, almost comically loud. Luckily most games do not use this at all.

-shoulder buttons are not great, you have to press them in strongly, otherwise they can disengage (like when you're aiming.)

But there are also very strong positives:

-it's not perfect but it is more comfortable than DS3. The finish on the plastic is very nice, it is a solid improvement on the DS3.

-it feels rugged, not cheap and lightweight like the DS3.

-analogue sticks are excellent, I like these sticks better than xbox 360 sticks, that's how good they are. This is the biggest selling point for me.

-solid buttons, no issues with them.

-good battery life (so far.)

-rumble works as advertised, so does sixxaxxis.

-it's good looking.

Is it worth $50 dollars? Sort of, a brand new 360 controller costs 40 dollars, but until we can use those (properly,) this is the next best thing I've found.

This is the best controller you can get for the PS3. It has a build similar to the Xbox 360 controller and it feels real comfortable in your hands. With this model they have also added rumble and sixaxis support, so you wont need a dualshock at all anymore! They have also fixed the dead zone in the analog sticks, which is great because this controller goes great for FPS games and you want the controller to be as precise as possible. The only thing I dislike is the D-Pad. It feels a bit too stiff for me and it clicks when I push down. Other than that though, it is a great controller. It is very responsive and it feels great! Highly Recommended!!

Bought this to use with Killzone 2. I love the XBox 360 controller and this seemed to be the closest thing to it. The controller itself feels great to use and I really wish it had worked well for shooters. I have to agree with other comments that the "dead zone" when aiming is just too large. It really makes it unusable for shooters. It's unfortunate because otherwise it's a great controller.

I am a big handed person and this fits them well. The caseing is very solid. The finish feel is the best of any controller I have owned. It almost has the feel of the 360 controller.

I bought the controller for Shooters but it is no good. There is a dead space between right and left with the analog sticks which makes fine aiming impossible. I took it apart and sad to say that it is because of cheap analog buttons! The hole is slightly larger than the pin. Wish I still had an original xbox controller to swap them out.

After 1 1/2 months the buttons are all ready sticking. This is because the buttons are not in an enternal inclosure and become etched. So taking it apart for a clean will not help. Two can not be used at the same time because the wireless signals interfere with one another and shuts each other off.

Mt thoughts, do not buy. DreamGear has a great idea and hopefully continue to make improvments to this product.

Okay, so here it goes. I've been on this epic search to find a ps3 controller that rivals the wonderfully designed xbox 360 controller... and guess what... this controller did it!! I took it out of the package and the second I put it in my hands it felt phenomenal! So I turned on Killzone 2 super excited to test this baby out and... the DEAD ZONE is horrible!!! Please save yourself the trouble and DO NOT BUY THIS! If you play FPS games (who doesn't?), trust me these analog sticks and the enormous dead zone will kill your accuracy and you won't be able to play for more than five minutes before getting too frustrated with your inability to finely adjust your aim. Not only that, but the R2/L2 buttons are terrible as well! Sure they fixed the shape and made them concave, but they feel terrible... not sure how to describe, but trust me you won't like them!

So frustrating, because they absolutely nailed the comfort and design for this controller, but epically failed on the analog sticks and R2/L2 buttons.

I really think this product deserves more like a 3-star rating since it's so close to being perfect, but I needed to give it a 1, so people would know to stay away.

First of all, there is no English in the game whatsoever. For those who don't understand Japanese, there are translations over the internet you can follow along and even a nice app with dialogue bubble by bubble translation at this link

http://apps.lushu.org/vesperia/

Now that the language issue is out of the way, this game is good for anyone who likes a game with a good story! The basic battle system is similar to the Tales games that came before this where all the fights are in a secluded dimension, but with added features such as additional skills that are sealed inside weapons.

So far it's a really great game (I'm 10 hours in), and as a JRPG fan, I would give this 9.8/10 where 10/10 would be Tales of Symphonia 1 (just because nothing is as good as Tales of Symphonia 1 imo).

There are many more features than the Xbox version, which I haven't played, such as double the scenes are voiced, more dungeons, playable characters, costumes, artes, songs, bosses, team colloseum, and new gameplay elements (you can use up to 16 artes shortcuts) (right now I only have 3 artes so I'm not sure how to use this yet but yea).

I highly recommend this game, it's definitely worth the price. For those of you who know a bit of Japanese like me from watching anime, the humor is really funny and you can enjoy the raw jokes that haven't been translated which is a plus for me.

Some minor sound issues but otherwise great game. It so badly needs the music and in game audio fixed. Buzz noises and sometimes the sound for battle music vanishes. I'm Giving it a five stars because the gameplay and redone plus added scenes more than makes up for it. I also appreciate Yuri's in game hair is now fixed and set to the proper color. The xbox 360 version his hair was purple. Also glad to have Flyn in my party and Patty is hilarious.

The original Deus Ex(DX) hit the market back in 2000 and with its combination of a Cyberpunk atmosphere and fusion of RPG and FPS elements, became a hit title that eventually won game of the year amongst many other awards. The game was ahead of its time in a way, similar to how Blade Runner (the movie) was ahead of its time for back in the 1980's. With this new release, DX: HR, does the game fall into mediocrity or does DX continue to be a a beautiful melody of various gameplays in an immerse environment?.... A few technical details aside, I would say this game easily marks a new generation in the Deus Ex line and could just be one of the best SP based campaign game released in 2011.

GAMEPLAY

And a whole lot of it! This game is massive and the cyberpunk vision of the future is captured beautifully. DX:HR I feel, tends to be a blend of FPS meets Stealth meets Espionage meets Social. You play as Adam Jensen who is a security officer for an Augmentation company. After an attack leaves him so badly wounded he needs heavy body augmentation the game begins. Who plotted the attack? Why? Terrorism? Self-Sabotage? The conspiracy runs deep and it is your job to figure out it! At your disposal is a very immerse and game changing set of mechanics that shapes how you play the game, yet adapts to your play-style. Need to get to the 5th floor and hack a terminal.. no problem go in guns blazing...or maybe stealth past the guards taking them out one at a time... or maybe break in through a vent system...or combine all 3! Not only can you approach objectives and quests from various methods, but there often are quite a few options available to you. You don't always need to take that grate on the left. You could hack the janitor's closet and steal the keycard and just walk right in on the objective. Maybe there is a guard wandering who has a keycard also, or someone wrote it in an email message that you found when hacking terminals. The variety is just huge and never gets old! To top it all off you can upgrade Mr. Jensen to better suit your play-style

As you complete objectives, side quests, or basically do anything you gain XP. Shoot a mob you get XP, stealth him instead XP, Avoid combat all together get XP! Hacking amounts to bonus XP as hacking is more of a mini-game than a mandatory tool in this game, but I found it worth my time to hack. It was fun and provided some interesting bits of information that paid off in the long run. Anyhow, the XP you gain is used to level up Jensen, and as you level you gain the ability to further boost the level of mods you have. What is so beautiful about this the upgrades compliment your play-style. You are not forced to pick upgrades you do not want, however I rarely found that I picked something that felt like a waste. It is a solid system that gives you the freedom to play as you want for the most part.

GRAPHICS

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is not the flashiest of games. It isn't the latest and greatest game engine that might choke your PS3/360 or stress your video card until it explodes. The game still looks very good though. It captures a cyberpunk / blade runner style atmosphere very well and uses a darker color pallet which makes for a slightly darker vision of the future. Character animations can seem a little stiff or awkward at times, but do remember people are walking around with augmentations so the body movements might seem a bit unnatural for a reason. On the PS3 version the Frame-rate dropped from time to time, especially during one or two intense cut-scenes but it wasn't that bad. There was similar frame-rate issues on the 360 but occurring in different areas spots so the drop is probably relating to how the system is handling the engine itself. Graphically, the PS3 vs the 360 have differences but not enough to sway me to one or the other. It really depends on what you are looking at, at the time you are comparing. Sometimes PS3 looked better, sometimes 360. PS3 lighting was better in some spots, yet the 360 had better coloring in others.

In short... The Graphics, while not the best, are very good and despite the PS3 and 360 having some frame-rate issues, either system is a perfect option for this game; each boasting pros and cons over the other.

SOUND/STORY

The music for this game is awesome! The style of music chosen fits the environment and setting of the game perfectly, going well with the cyberpunk theme. It helps immerse you into the game which is a big plus. Voice acting however is a sub-par as often the same voice actor played multiple characters and didn't even change their voice. You may even find multiple characters who say the same line of text. I'm not surprised by this though as the original Deus Ex had some of the Worst-yet best! voice acting of any game I played. .... Storyline wise, while I honestly have not completed the game at this point (the game is LONG!), the storyline is great! Everything you do has influences on the game, and the storyline is very deep and balanced. It is full of plot twists and surprises that had me hooked.

REPLAY/LENGTH

While this game lacks multiplayer, you are getting your $'s worth here. The game easily has 25+hrs of gameplay, more like 30-40 hrs if you factor in side quests and taking your time to really immerse yourself. Not only does this game boast a huge amount of varied gameplay, but I could easily see myself picking it up and doing it all over again! The variety in gameplay is just that amazing. You stealthed your way into the building for Mission 6, replay it and try going Rambo. You might find new items or bits of information, or even slightly influence events of that mission. Deus Ex reminds me a little of Mass Effect in this sense. Every new gameplay can be filled with little bits and pieces you may of missed, or simply did not see in a previous playthrough; plus there are multiple endings to this game which only tempt you to try alternative paths and methods.

CONS

Normally I integrate my Con's into each section, but Deus-Ex is the kind of game that you need to see the entire picture. The game can clock it easily +25hrs and has such a wide variety of elements to it things were bound to go wrong in some spots. This comes in the form of frame-rate problems(see graphics), boss encounters, and AI problems. Frame-rate has been covered but Boss Encounters were a disappointment simply because there is only one real way to fight them. RAMBO style! If you specialized in hacking that won't help you during the fight. The illusion of choice is removed here and you are forced into a play style you might not enjoy. This isn't a major problem but for someone who didn't specialize in guns, since the game is forgiving, it feels like bosses were rushed in rather than fully thought out. AI problems well, it was to be expected. Sometimes enemies just become stupid and forget you are there or have such obvious pathing it makes you wonder how they were even hired to be guards. Despite their AI problems however they seem to have eagle eye vision when it comes to accuracy with guns (which makes for a good challenge!)

OVERALL ... 93% (9.3 / A)

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a product of its sums. Individually each part of the game, from the shooter, to the stealth to the social aspects 'could have' been done better. Instead each element was created specifically to balance the other and what you end up with is a game that has multiple play-styles, gameplay which caters to the needs of the player, immerse storyline and environment, and a wide variety of methods to tackle the problem; so much so alternative play-throughs are a must! DX: HR has technical issues, but when a single game can easily surpass 25-30hrs and contain such variety, a few problems might slip through the cracks or be inevitable.

In the end, we have a beautiful game that will keep you glued to your PC, 360 or PS3.

I have been playing Dues Ex Human Revolution since yesterday and this may well be the Game of the Year for me. The gameplay feels so good and fresh. I love that you can completely avoid the enemies, sneak about and take-em down with awesome melee attacks or just assault them with weapons blazing. You don't have to play one way or a different way the whole game. You can play however the situation calls for to your taste. There is no penalty or special reward for doing something one way vs. another. It is all just good gameplay to achieve your goal / objective.

Every encounter, even the ones where I die and then replay has played very fresh. The AI is really very good (playing on Hard) in terms of being both fun and challenging.

As an example, these four dudes walking below and I shot one of them, the others started firing at me. I ducked behind cover and then migrated while out of their sight.

Two of them continued to burst fire on that position while the 3rd slowly moved to flank it. I had moved away from there and was just watching them. Once they realized I wasn't there anymore, they started fanning out and searching... then I took them out silently one at a time. It was great.

That is what I mean by the gameplay feels so good. It is rewarding without giving you an achievement / trophy to make you feel good.

Mix in all your augmentation possibilities and you get even more options on how you can handle different situations.

It almost feels like Rocksteady and original Deus Ex team got together and decided to put the best parts of original Deus Ex and Batman Arkham Asylum together for the gameplay and the best parts of Bioshock and Half-Life for how the story is presented and the rich feel to the characters. I am not saying they achieved on all these levels, but it feels like they reached for those standards.

This game doesn't give you choices like Mass Effect or others that overplay the whole good vs. evil action dialog choices. This game gives you choices more along the lines of Heavy Rain with the noted exception that you can get a game-over if you die but other than that in this game, the world goes on and unless you replay you won't necessarily know that things could turn out different if you had played different or had different success or failures. It just plays out naturally and you may think that is how it was supposed to play out which in terms of keeping things immersive, it was :)

I think this feature is very important to immersion in role playing games or really any game. Let the player make choices, but don't do it all through dialog trees where you indicate good or evil action. Actions can just be actions and still have distinct natural consequences (positive, neutral, or otherwise).

I'm not big on FPS games. In fact, Morrowind, Oblivion and the newer Fallout games are about as close as I normally get to FPS. I couldn't resist this game, however. Being from Detroit kinda influenced that; I wanted to see how much of my hometown they incorporated. I have to say, some things are familiar (including bums digging in the trash cans!) They really encouraged exploration here, with shops and hidden passageways scattered about. The streets of Detroit are more accurate than I expected, and they also included some nice landmarks.

At any rate, I'm pretty much blown away by this game. I really dig the story! The game play is remarkably fluid, and I really love the graphics and the music. The voice acting, for the most part, is top notch. One thing that really draws me in is that combat isn't exactly forced on you. Sometimes it's easier to simply take out the thugs. Other times, moving a box and exposing a vent shaft will take you around them. When it does come to combat, it seems pretty well done. I'm terrible at FPS type games, but I seem to hold my own here (I am playing on "Tell Me A Story..." I admit, I'm lame in that sense!) Ultimately, this feels like a role playing game with a FPS twist. You're not going to get a lot of sandboxing here like you would in Fallout or Oblivion, as the world you're in feels a bit smaller. Don't get me wrong, there is some exploring to be done but not as much as the other titles mentioned.

The level-up system is also nice, and leaves a lot of room for customization. It seems like you really can't go wrong with whatever build you take. It also allows you to focus more on stealth, or combat too, if you so desire. Experience is given by completion of quest, as well as for kills and take-downs. Yes, you have plenty of quests available! Once you complete the first mission (after the introductory mission,) you'll be given several side quests, as well as "main quests" that push the story forward.

Another really nice feature: I've noticed no bugs! Granted, I try to get from point A to point B asap, and haven't seen everything I could. Over all, I highly recommend this title!

My tastes in gaming run along the lines of Metal Gear Solid, Assassin's Creed, and Devil May cry. And I like games that offer flexibility in the way you play them, as well as a decent plot and likeable characters. To which Deus Ex: Human Revolution exceeds, and possibly sets the standard in those aspects.

The visuals leave a bit to be desired, but the color scheme and cyberpunk look and feel make up for it well. The game is literally a more modern rendition of the cybepunk story, one rife with the consequences technology produces on society and our lives, from fashion to medicine.

Honestly, if you find this game too difficult, it's because you aren't creative enough to find another way to complete what you need to do. And this game literally has something for everyone, sneaking, first person shooter, hacking, and wordplay all add up to an experience no other game this generation has produced.

Get it, play it, then play it again. You wont be disappointed, unless you simply can't comprehend what this truly great game has to offer you.

Want Deus Ex Human Revolution Discount?

I've got to say, this Deus Ex blew my mind. I had no good expectations going into this game with all the butchering of classic franchises nowadays. I was expecting a less than par game, but I was hooked about an hour in. Human Revolution is a worthy and true to the franchise entry. You can easily tell alot of love went into this game; with all the Easter egg references the developers drew inspiration from. While playing there are noticeable references to movies like RoboCop, and BladeRunner. This tells me the devs poured their hearts into developing this game. What stands out about this game is the fantastic augmentation system. There are a good amount of augmentations you can upgrade and the special abilities make the game incredibly fun. I don't want to go all "college thesis" on this review so I'll make my points brief below:

PROS:

+ Augmentations are great and add alot of strategy to gameplay.

+ You can play the game any way you want to (stealthy or run and gun etc)

+ The environments are HUGE (especially Hengshua)

+ Hacking is fun unlike other games

+ This game has great pacing, you'll be playing it for a long time and won't get sick of it.

+ LOOT (need I say more?)

CONS:

The graphics on characters look a bit bland, but it doesn't bother me too much.

The voice acting is inconsistent in believability (some characters are voiced perfect and others make you cringe)

Reloading after a game over is a long wait.

I don't typically ever go for a platinum trophy on any PS3 game period, but Deus Ex Human Revolution is so much fun that I feel its worth it going for a platinum trophy. I don't even know why I am typing this review on Amazon when I could be playing this contender for Game of the Year!

Understand when I give it two stars it only because i my feelings. The step is only a few inches high and even with the Wii fit step on top the height is not sufficiant. The middle of the step interlocked so if you aren't a size 10 the interlocking came apart. It not meant for the more full figured woman.

The block is made well enough but it is not wide enough to do most of the step moves. I should have sent it back but didn't want the trouble.

The first day I used it, the step broke in the middle when I stepped on it. Now there is a crescent shape right in the middle. I did buy two, and the second one has not broken. I gave it 3 stars instead of 1 because one is holding up and the other is broken.

It seems to throw my step aerobics games on Wii Fit off a little. I'm not sure if it's me or the board. For the most part it makes you workout a little bit more, and I care about burning calories more than scoring points, so I was good with that.

Same issue as prior review. I just could not get the logitech car pedals to line up properly. Playseat sells an out of stock replacement that lets you adjust the angle but it's too expensive. They should have included it standard for the price of this chair. Other than that, it's very well built and of good quality.

For anyone that played NFS:Hot Pursuit, one could argue the only thing that game was missing was a "freeplay" mode (ala Test Drive Unlimited 2) to run over any part of the map you wanted. But the gameplay was top notch, as was the online multiplayer, which shows why NFS: Hot Pursuit still has a strong following.

And while I can appreciate what EA tried to do with NFS: The Run, it's just not done very well.

For a full retail game ($60) to be over in THREE hours, that's not acceptable in a racing game considering that Blur could take you several WEEKS to work through, along with racers like Dirt 3, Gran Turismo 5, etc. This means unless you're a trophy hunter or a die-hard online player, the game's over in about the time it takes to play an NFL game on Sunday. So for this reason, I suggest if you don't fall into the categories I just mentioned, give this a rental.

From a graphics standpoint, the game looks awesome, especially during the cutscenes and the areas you'll be driving. However when the graphics is the strongest point of the game, you've got a problem right there.

One of the things that has plagued the Shift series of games is the floaty handling. And one of the things that made NFS:Hot Pursuit so GOOD was how well that game handled. Sadly, in NFS: The Run, it seems you're driving a Land Rover instead of a Zonda. It's extremely hard to execute good, drifting turns, hard to weave in and out of the environmental scenes (which Split/Second did far better and more convincingly), and more often then not, you end up wrecking. While the "rewind" feature is nice, a 10 second interruption in the gameplay is not while you're waiting to get back in the race.

Furthermore, if you're going to have a story you better care about the "main" character. Unfortunately, it seems like EA went to the Paris Hilton school of "souless" acting because while the cutscenes look cool, you're really not getting a sense of intrigue (OMG, we have to win, Jack owes $25M, he's going to die if he doesn't pay. Get the ___ out of my way, I gotta win! Erm, no so much).

I had VERY high hopes for this game. But coming out around the same time Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Batman, Saints Row and MW3, and containing about 1/10 of the gameplay time, I simply can't recommend buying this game except for the most diehard Autolog/achievement hunter.

And it's a shame. We want developers to push the edge, and then crack back on them when they fail. As much as I'd like to see EA make another go at this, you're probably going to see a return closer to what Hot Pursuit was then you'll see another "The Run" type of game.

Pros:

Great graphics and sound

Autolog and lots of achievements to chase

Cons:

WAY too short at 2-4 hours long

Bare multiplayer modes compared to NFS:Hot Pursuit

Sluggish controls/responsiveness

Lack of connection with the story

I give The Run 5 stars and I'm puzzled that there are so many complaints and 1 star ratings. I have several of the PS3 racing games, Grid, Dirt 1,2&3, GT, NFS series, and they all take a little getting used to, at least for me. Once you get the hang of it, it's simply a blast. With The Run, you get to street race in San Francisco against oncoming traffic or weave in and out of traffic on an LA freeway with spectacular graphics. Seriously, what's not to like. I'm about a third of the way thru, playing the challenges along the way and I think The Run is a 5 star addition to my game collection. That's my 2 cents.

Black Box is not Criteron Games, so I wasn't expecting anything nearly as good as Hot Pursuit. With that being said, I haven't been disappointed yet. The tracks all look amazing as do the cars. Yes, some of them are hard to handle but if you're having a hard time, just use a car with normal handling and you'll be ok. But there is great reward in mastering tracks with cars that are harder to handle as you'll take seconds off your lap time as you sacrifice easier handling for speed. There is a lot of rubber banding AI though. There's been several races that I've been on the final stretch, saw someone coming in behind me and I punch the nitro and they still fly right past me and beat me by a split second...and I started it on easy just so I could familiarize myself with the tracks. The cops in this game are more annoying than they are fun like in Hot Pursuit too. I can't count how many times so far that I'd go to drift around a turn only to be super human rammed by some cop and go flying right off a cliff or the path.

Speaking of that, the game also seems to have a problem with you being off of the beaten path. If it's not a shortcut or the actual road, the game will make you rewind (an annoying feature added that takes you back to your last checkpoint). It's a nice feature for when you wreck but more often than not, you're going to be seeing it because your car was slightly just past the cones or you were bumped through the yellow turn there arrows because they aren't an invisible wall in this game. My favorite so far has been getting a ton of air from a jump that I think I bounced off a tanker truck and then somehow I wrecked before I even hit the ground (and it would have been a perfect landing!). Bottom line is this game could have a lot of epic and cool moments but it prevents itself from ever allowing it. I'm also not a fan of a "story" mode in my racing games.

This game does have a rather interesting story, but it seems like it doesn't know how to go about it. Any rival races are introduced to you as text on the loading screen and that's all. But then you randomly have these poor looking cutscenes, and by poor I mean a lot of shading pixels around Jack (the guy you're racing as) and the frame rate often stutters a lot during them. On top of not being very visually pleasing, they tend to have some quick time events in there. There is nothing worse than quick time events. But the concept of racing across the US actually does work in the games favor by having a very wide and very nice variety of tracks. And while the story mode is rather short, there's good reason.

The game seems more focused on competing with friends (which hopefully you're not like me and actually have friends who did buy this game hah) so while yes, the story is fairly short, it's also to encourage you to replay it to surpass a friends autolog completion time for the campaign. But if you're not one to car for competition, then there are a good amount of challenge modes that unlock as you complete each stage in the campaign. You'll find yourself trying to better your lap times as you try to attain platinum medals for your efforts in these challenges. There are online modes, which seem to have a focus on working as a team but as i mentioned earlier, I don't currently have any psn friends who have this game yet. Hopefully after black friday that will be remedied but for now, I haven't had a chance to play online just yet.

All in all, the game is actually a lot of fun. The bugs in the game are in the parts that no one should really care about and the cars all handle well. It takes some getting used to since again, this isn't Hot Pursuit and the controls don't feel as great at first but with the right car, you'll have little to no problems drifting around tight corners. The asking price does seem a little steep so maybe wait til you can get it cheaper, but by all means this game offers quite a bit to do as long as you have friends to compete with.

Before I start off with this review, I would like you to know that I have been an avid supporter of the NFS series for years. I have played every single NFS game except for the first one and Shift 2. No, Pro Street never happened so I have never touched that game.

What I liked:

1. Thanks to Frostbite 2, the graphics look really good. The environment really shines. The cars aren't too shabby either.

2. The cars sounds fine. They aren't mind-blowing, but they're decent.

3. The quick=time events are surprisingly decent. I didn't mind them at all.

4. Personally, I like the licensed soundtrack a lot. It is pretty much a blend of alternative and rock.

5. Just a fun fact. Christina Hendricks plays a role in the game.

6. The cover looks pretty rad.

What I didn't like:

1. Compared to Hot Pursuit's feel of playing with toy cars, this one feels like pushing a cardboard box around. The vehicles don't feel alive. There is no sense of satisfaction in the driving portion. That could be a matter of preference though.

2. The game doesn't really pick up until your 80% into the game, when you start driving the ultra high end cars.

3. Very much similar to other non=simulation NFS titles, this game relies heavily on rubberband AI. Your opponents always catch up. You never get to the first place until the final seconds. The rubberband AI causes extreme frustrations on plenty of occasions.

4. The developer claimed that they placed a much larger emphasis on the storyline of the game. So the plot basically revolves around this guy named Jack who needs to win the cash in order to fend off the mob. Sam, his friend, hooked him up on the race. That's it. That's the entire storyline, literally. There are no further background information (such as why the mob was so interested in Jack, who are backing the race, what's the relationship between Sam and Jack).

5. Rival match ups are pointless. The game provides background info on them but never mentions why are they your rivals. In addition, their "challenges" aren't all that different from any other regular races in the game.

6. Considering it's a game named "Need for Speed", one would figure the game to bear more of a sense of speed. Surprisingly, you can't tell the difference between driving at 120 and 180.

7, The new rewind feature is essentially a checkpoint system like any other shooter games out there. What I didn't like about it is how the game seems to be built around this very feature. Whenever you get into a car crash, you'll start off at one of the checkpoints instead of just having your car reset. In addition, if you are unable to stay on the road even for a tiny bit, you'll be sent back to the most recent checkpoint.

8. The "career" is only slightly over 2 hours long. You will, however, be spending a lot longer than that since you will reattempt the races many times due to factors mentioned above. As a result, the game becomes a lot more frustrating than it should be.

Bottomline:

It's simply not worthy of a three year development cycle and is certainly not full price. Wait till it's in the bargain bin. You know what, even when it's in the bargain bin, don't get it. It's not an experience unique enough to command a fan base of its own. Just get Midnight Club: Los Angeles if you're looking for a budget arcade racing game, or NFS Hot Pursuit if you can shed out some more cash.

As a long time follower of the Need for Speed franchise; once again I have to said that this game was a disappointment! I am convinced that EA has totally lost touch with what consumer wants from the game. We want the old Need for Speed back, like how it was back in the days of "underground" or "hot pursuit" with just newer cars and better graphics. That's all!!!

Well I guess my rating and title should tell the whole story..., unfortunately it gets way worse. First off this thing barely even fits inside my ps3 input.. it just kinda flopped around like a dying fish (and they sent the "special modified version). Second it barely worked! The colors were distorted and there was NO SOUND for the first 3 days, but finally after plugging my cable wire into the adapter I finally got sound and a pretty decent picture, but that was only after some heavy rearrangements. And finally the 3rd spark that ignited the fuse attached to a big bomb of hatred I now have for this waste of landfill space came when I went to untwist the cable wire off my adapter... IT POPPED OFF!!!!!!! So needless to say this product is nowhere near worth the price and/or hassle. In fact I wouldn't accept this even if Amazon gave it to me for free and gave me 50$.

Well, I wasted $10.11 + shipping on this POS. The video signal was awful and there was no sound when I connected an Xbox 360 to my TV using this MadCatz product. It reminded me of the days of rabbit ears when you would ask your sister to stand there holding the antenna so you could try watching a signal from an out of state TV station. Either I got a defective product or it just doesn't work. I would strongly suggest getting a generic RF modulator instead of one that is product specific like this one is.

Amazon did get this to me pretty quickly, but it is not the correct item. The one they sent has the XBOX, GAMECUBE, and PS2 plugs molded together and the XBOX 360 plug on a separate cord. The one pictured has all 4 on separate cords. This is no big deal if you are plugging in only one of the first 3 systems, but if you are planning to leave it set up so you can play any game system without unplugging cords, this won't work. It says it has automatic switching. There is no way this thing is going to unplug itself from Gamecube and plug itself in to PS2. I am still waiting to hear from customer service to see if they can actually send me what I bought.

If you like real racing, not arcade racing, you will love this. I play it with a Playseat Revolution and a G25 (dremaing about buying a Fanatec Clubsport w/ forumla trim soon), playstation 3 console. I'm a true F1 fan, read news everyday and follow every race, qualifiers and sometimes practices on tv and I'm also going to Austin this year to watch the return of F1 to American soil. With all that being said, this game can simulate everything that happens at F1 in real life, from unpredictable weather to tire degradation. I have F1 2010, F1 2011 as well and I had a lot fun playing all games, career mode is fun and the best of all, playing online. I have friends that love this game for its realism and I have friends that hate this game for its realism, the second tier of friends are more into bumping, crashing and etc...This game is for someone that understand how every milisecond counts, for player that have sweating palms at the end of the race for keeping themselves focused on every detail and getting the most out or every corner. Codemasters has done a great job on every racing game that I have purchased from them, they're also de the developers of Dirt 3 and previous and later editions. There is also Grid, which I haven't played, but I saw that Grid 2 is coming out, so I'll check that out as well.

I followed the progress of this series from the beginning, but never pulled the trigger on buying or even trying the game. I decided to take the plunge this year and I'm happier than ever.

I'm a long time racing fan, having played and owned every Gran Turismo game, old f1 games for old systems, Need for Speed, etc. Played 'em all, and I've always loved racing games....

Man is this game tough. Hopeful that it's just because I am new to the series, but I've played a few races online so far and have been getting smoked! Online competition is steep. It's tough dealing with the jokers who are out to knock people off the track. I could really do with out that. It seems like the start of every race has some idiot plowing into the field in corner 1. But, if you survive it, the racing plays out beautifully online.

I also started my career and can already tell this game is going to be fun all winter long. I can't wait to keep exploring the depths of the game and am hopeful that I can get past the learning curve enough to be competitive with the other drivers.

psThis game is already proving to be a lot more fun than Gran Turismo 5 ever was, at least for me.

Buy F1: 2012 Now

Let me start this off by saying that i've put a lot of time into the first two games (2010 and 2011) and this probably the best so far. I'll be breaking down the review into sections with a run down of the basic parts of the game.

First off, when you start the game you run into the Young Drivers Test which is smartly disguised as a tutorial for beginners to the series. Since I already knew how the games played, it felt quite tedious having the game telling me what button to press to activate KERS since i've already done it hundreds of times, but it was a great time to use to get used to the game. I had just bought a new wheel to play this game it with and it certainly helped me come to grips with it.

Once you finish the drivers test, you get to choose a team to drive for in your career. Which teams are available depends on your performance in the YDT so be sure to try your best. After that, the game drops you off in the main menu and you can choose to do what you wish.

Quick Race is what the name says. You choose a driver, track, conditions/settings, and off you go.

Multiplayer Honestly, I've only done one online race in the last two/three years and was not impressed at all. There are too many variables that you can't control that I don't think it's worth the frustration. I don't want to turn away anyone from this component of the game though, so you'll have to read other reviews if you want an insight on multiplayer since I have zero experience with this part.

Career Same as before. You start with a low to mid level team (depending on the YDT) and work your way up the chain. This years Career mode has been greatly improved, starting with a complete overhaul of the menu from previous games. Everything this year feels so much more streamlined and intuitive. The teammate challenge is focused on more this year as well, as the first page you come upon when you enter the Career menu is a comparison of how you and your teammate have performed so far. You also have less selection in terms of race distances, I forget what the smaller distances were, but the longer ones were only 25%, 50%, or 100%(where as in 2011 you had more choices). This isn't necessarily a bad thing for me, I already did 50% races in 2011, but it may make it tough for people who liked to choose the distances that have been removed.

Proving Grounds The Time Attack and Time Trial modes are back. Time Attack puts you in the seat of a pre-selected car in tracks with varying conditions with a target time to beat, it's really fun trying to find how to beat the Gold time. Time Trial is just you in a car and track you selected with your quickest time(you can also choose someone else's time from the Leaderboards) and you just try to beat the times. New this year is the Champions Mode which puts you up against the six world champions that participated in the 2012 season. Each champion has their own individual challenge (that plays to their strengths) and has a final challenge where you have to beat them all in a shootout. This is a really fun mode and trying to get Gold in every challenge is not that easy.

The game was filled with glitches that were very frustrating at times, but they have all been repaired as of the writing of this review and the game works great.

Smaller things to touch on:

-Cars handle great. It may vary with different setups, but the cars feel so great when you have a great setup on.

-Engines sound amazing as usual.

-You can now adjust brake bias when you're on track, a feature missing from the last two games.

Overall, it's a great game and certainly one that an F1 fan(new or old) will enjoy.

Edit: I see that some reviews say to try out the demo first and then decide whether to buy or not, I would not suggest this. The demo has not seen any of the patches that have gone into the current game and there is a considerable difference in how the cars handle between both versions.

If you like F1 and you like racing games, this is a must buy. I have played a lot of F1 games over the years, the old PC EA ones up through the Sony championship edition game for Ps3 and none come close to this. This is hands down the best F1 game I've ever played. If you don't like F1 or simulation racing then this is probably not for you though. It's more realistic and challenging than Gran Turismo even. So bottom line, if you like F1 and realistic sim racing you should get this, but if you're more about arcade style racing then it's probably not for you.

Want F1: 2012 Discount?

I am new to F1 2012 and decided to give it a try. I have been looking for a good racing simulation that actually reflects real racing and is fun and exciting to play and at the same time having been disappointed in some of the Nascar racing entries in recent years. I don't understand why EA and others cant make a Papyrus type sim that matches modern day graphics and playability.

So far it seems that F1 2012 is equal parts simulation and excitement. I frankly don't know much about F1 racing, being more a Nascar fan myself, but F1 seems to capture the precision of the vehicles and the excitement of individual events. Althought it demands skill and tactics over thoughtless speeding and has a bit of a learning curve. So it may make you likely lose the interest due to the difficulty at times.

The graphics are sharp and the driving and crashes seem realistic. There is a bit of a beginners tutorial which will help a bit with the learning curve but it is still difficult to drive these tracks.

F1 2012 has a lot to offer and so far I am enjoying the ride. Now if I can just get a good Nascar racing game, I would be set.
