The Penguins of Madagascar cartoon debuted on Nickelodeon in 2009 and has led to a regular running series as well as a few specials and video games. In the latest video game adaptation, the Penguins of Madagascar are once again trying to avert possible world destruction from their arch enemy, Dr. Blowhole. The game is a companion piece to the stand-alone episode of the same name, Dr. Blowhole Returns Again.

At its most basic level, the Penguins of Madagascar: Dr. Blowhole Returns Again, is a puzzle game. The game offers no combat whatsoever, despite the content of the cartoon it is based off of. Each level consists of a different environment on the way to finding Dr. Blowhole. The penguins start off in the zoo and make their way through the sewers to Dr. Blowhole's underground lair. Each penguin has unique abilities, Skipper can take charge of the entire group and have them work together, Kowalski can build things with items found around the maps, Rico can blow things up and Private is smaller than the rest and can fit into tight spaces or charm nearby creatures. The key to success in the game is realising which penguin is needed in each situation and how to maneuver them around the map successfully.

Each level increases in difficulty and I only found myself perplexed on rare occasions. What made the levels more interesting were hidden chameleons around each map. There are also snow cones, fish and peanut butter winkies that are used as currency throughout the game. The player can collect these and then redeem them for mini-games purchased in King Julien's store.

What makes this game so much fun is the adorable animation of the main characters. While this game won't win Game of the Year for graphics, story or any other intangibles, the game makes up for this with ingenuity and full inclusion of the cast that makes up the Penguins of Madagascar cartoon. The cut scenes feature various characters from the cartoon, including Phil and Mason, the monkeys, Marlene, the otter, Burt, the elephant, Alice, the zookeeper as well as the lemurs led by King Julien. The characters are all true to form and some even assist the penguins in their task to traverse the zoo.

The graphics in this game are sub-par in many areas, most notably the cut scenes. Considering this game is based off of a cartoon, I was disappointed to see a lack of polish in this area. The animation and graphics of the actual game play are near flawless. There are no visual inconsistencies that stood out or made the characters walk through walls. There were no clear frame rate issues and the penguins' movements matched those from the show exactly. Penguins don't run, they glide, which was wonderfully captured and integrated into the game play.

The sound and voice acting were pitch perfect, it matched what any fan would come to expect. All the regular voice actors made appearance in the game, including Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Blowhole. The background music was quiet and not over-bearing, the sound effects for the movements helped understand what was needed in specific situations.

The main storyline will take any experienced gamer less than 5-10 hours, but the game includes additional mini games as well. The games include a Bowling game, using Mort as a bowling ball, a Ninja fighting game, as the penguins fight ninja bowling pins and a Dance game with King Julien. All three games are simple enough, though the trophies attached to them are quite challenging to reach. Of the trophies I'm missing, it is only these three that are missing and denying my platinum status for this game.

Overall, this is a really fun game to play, but at the price tag of, currently, $40, I can't say that it is worth it. The game play, while interesting, becomes stale after only a few hours, despite varied environments. I am a fan of the show and felt that it would be an adorable game, much like other cartoon based game. I was glad to see I wasn't disappointed, as many adaptation games take the fun out, and this one certainly did not. There doesn't appear to be a difficulty setting in the game, so replay value for the main campaign is low, but the mini games could prove to have an undetermined amount of time to sink into the game. On the whole, this is a fun game, but it is more likely designed for kids than adults.

This is a fantastic game. My 6 yr old boys love it and played it exclusively for two days in a row. The game is fun and entertaining, Dr. Blowhole is reminiscent of Dr. Doofenshmertz of Phineas and Ferb. The game is challenging enough without being too complicated. The only draw back is that it is a single player game. I didn't do enough research on that score, I figured that with all the characters there would be an option for two players so that they could play together or against each other. However, this is a personal issue and not a reflection on the quality of the game. It was a good purchase and we're happy with it.

It protects well against sweaty hands, dirt, and in case u drop ur controller. but for mine, i had to cut pieces of it off in order to use the joy stick more freely. at times when using the joy stick part of the controller, it would get in contact of the silicone pad slowing the action down. but its worth it for the price.

These skins work great. They add a little bit of bulk to the controllers, which is great if you have big hands. They also keep the little one's greasy fingers from getting all over the controller and protect them a tiny bit if they get dropped. My only gripe is that, on the black one, you cannot see which controller you are assigned to because the lights are covered. You can see through the clear one but not the black one. I resolved this by cutting out a little rectangle with a razor.

Overall, a great product for the price.

This bundle was a great deal that is fun to use with a multitude of different PS3 Move games. They are very lightweight and seem flimsy; however, they have held up to the rigor of my teenage son and his friends. So, they are certainly serving their purpose! The Move controller fits into each one perfectly, which is great...no need to have to work hard to put the controllers in or take the controllers out! None of the controllers have ever come loose either. I wish the material for this bundle was a bit more durable-feeling, but the lightweight design does make them very easy to uses for kids, women and guys alike!

I bought this because my friend he had his for like 2 months before me and said it has hella good. He was right. The mic and sound was great. Okay, let me start by saying that this control is a step up from the dualshock 3, only in the aspect that its better for SSF4. As for buttons very comfortable, nice layout, but the Directional pad just isn't that durable. Its a good idea for a D-pad to be free, so it would give you more flexibility, but I just don't think it was executed well, the functionality isn't the best. Well long story short, if your really hardcore about fighting game's, you should just save up for a fight stick. That's all you really need.

Back in 2000, there was a little unknown gem on Sega Dreamcast called 'Shenmue', which became a huge financial flop despite the universal critical praises. Its sequel only showed up in Japan and later ported to the original X-Box after Dreamcast's demise. Shenmue was the game that invented QTE (Quick Time Event) that are so frequently used by many games like Resident Evil 4, Heavy Rain and God of War series.

Yakuza 3 is the third installment of the popular Japanese action adventure game series by Sega that inherit all the characteristics of Shenmue series. But it is this installment that finally exceeds everything Shenmue tried to be in spades with so much more contents and depths. Yakuza series was understandably not well-known outside Japan at all due to its quirky and idiosyncratic eccentricity stemming from distictively Japanese culture. Make no mistake, this is one of the most popular game in Japan. With population half as big as the U.S. but so much diversities in different genres of video games (each game is targeted speficically for intended demographic rather than potential demographic as here in the U.S.), half-million copies sold is viewed as bona-fide success. With sensible budget and half-million copies means good profits and the next sequel. The fourth one has just been released in Japan. There have been tons and tons of games on PS and Nintendo consoles that never make outside Japan, and Yakuza series are one of the rare ones that are available here in the U.S.

Warning to fans of GTA or the likes and JRPG; Yakuza 3 is not a console RPG or GTA-clone, as many would describe it. It's a grand style action adventure game that indeed plays very much like JRPG but so jam-packed with contents that it put arguably all console RPG to shame and gives even the longest CRPG like 'Oblivion' or 'Fallout 3' some serious run for its money. Don't be surprise to clock in over 100 hours to unlock 100 percent completion percentage. Beside the main story, which gives you good 20-25 hours, the game is overflowing with substories and side activities. Plus you can always engage in street fight at certain points. On and all, if you ever played either of Shenmue, you'll know exactly what you're getting into. This really is 'Shenmue' reincarnated, so if you ever moaned about the demise of the series, pick this up without any hesitation.

Its fighting mechanics is Sega's own 'Streets of Rage' style beat-them-up brawler with some depth. Just don't expect more complicated fighting game like Sega's own 'Virtua Fighter'. But the actual fighting is much more brutal, violent, bone-crunching and over the top than the unrealistic arcady fighting games that let you shoot fireball from your eyes so you will have a heck of a time engaging in combat. It's really fun.

The story is thoroughly Japanese and also very realistic and real-life related like actual Japanese TV drama. The plot progresses via dynamic cutscenes and static dialogues. While each literation in the series offers a self-contain story arc but you would have much more emotional resonance if you've already played the first two on PS2. It also have many recurring themes overlapping from the first two. Luckily, the game gives you full rundown of the story of the first two games with cutscenes directly lifted from the PS2 games.

However, the game only offers Japanese soundtrack with English subtitle, due to huge cultural differences between Japanese and western nations, the game will be difficult to get into for a lot of people. Don't be surprised if you don't understand many of customs, references and logics. Pacing would also make things difficult for more casual gamers who are used to quick access and fast-paced run-of-the-mill action game. This is an action adventure game that heavily focuses on human drama. Episodic and sometimes brutal, sometimes poignant, but always humane and realistic, it requires you to read and reminisce a lot as a main character on the way.

Visual is indeed very impressive. Facial model is the most impressive aspect and on par with 'Heavy Rain'. The graphical style opts for photo-realism so everything is very real-life like. But the jagged character models and color imperfection signal that this is still a video game. While not exactly 'Uncharted 2' or 'God of War 3', this is one fine looking game.

Controversy surrounding the contents cut from the original Japanese version are indeed true.

Cut content from the western version of Yakuza 3 includes:

-"Loser" (Japanese theme song by Eikichi Yazawa)

-Wooing women in hostess clubs

-Managing a hostess club

-Mahjong mini-game

-Shogi mini-game

-Massage parlor mini-game

-Answer X Answer trivia game

-Convenience store magazine browsing (you can only see the covers)

-A handful of sub-missions all related to aforementioned cut contents (26 out of 126 substories to be precise)

The official explanation of the cut is due to the cultural gap between Japanese and westerners, Sega worried that it would not resonate as much with western gamers with the axed contents. I personally call this a load of crap for Yakuza 1 and 2 previously had massage parlor, casino, hostess club mini games. I assure you that the omitted contents really don't change the game at all. Only some of the extra side activities are cut and the game is already jam-packed with side activities. But it would be much nicer to maintain the integrity of the original work.

It's been a crazy couple of months for me. From belated port of 'Star Ocean: The Last Hope', revolutionary 3D adventure game called 'Heavy Rain' to highly controversial yet solid 'Final Fantasy XIII' and the return of the king in 'God of War 3', it really has been taxing on my budget. Now 'Yakuza 3' is another excellent addition to already impressive Playstation library filled with diversified entries, variaties and quality. With 'Fallout: New Vegas', 'Two Worlds II', 'Arcania: A Gothic Tale', 'God of War III', 'MGS: Peace Walker', 'Metroid: Other M', and possibly another Zelda, my urges and passion for CRPG and action adventure games will be thoroughly satisfied in the year 2010.

I feel very torn in writing this review, as the release of Yakuza 3 in the US is the big carrot we must chase to get Yakuza 4 (which comes out in Japan a mere week after this release in the US) released stateside.

SEGA, I need you guys to pay attention. There's obviously been some miscommunication and misunderstanding in how this all should work. Ryu Ga Gotoku 3, the original Japanese title, is a fine and stellar game. It has a fantastic story, excellent mini games, substories and submissions to follow, and does what I feel is serve as an excellent representation of life in Japan, more to the point of life as a Japanese gangster.

The seedy underbelly and the familiar touches to anyone who has been to either Okinawa or Kabuki-cho in Shibuya are going to see massively detailed recreations at work here.

There was clearly a lot of love poured into the Japanese release. The US release, Yakuza 3, seems to have been the victim of time and poor project management. SEGA dodged questions for months regarding a western release of Yakuza 3, and when they finally announced their intentions, did so with the heaviest reservations possible.

To back this up a little bit, SEGA has had a troubled past with the series on the PS2 in the US. It's never been a high selling title, touted as a GTA game set in Japan. It's not really. It's basically Shenmue with more fighting, more gangsters, and a lot of seedy underbelly. There's no looking for sailors here or running off to look for a mirror. Your character is haunted by the violence surrounding his life and wants to be rid of the life he can never leave.

SEGA took the opportunity to take a heavy black marker to the full content of the Japanese release and started making deep and heavy cuts to the content.

Much was said about the Hostess Bar missions being cut for lack of purpose to the western audience, or that they removed the massage parlor in Kamuro-cho (the fake name for the real life Kabuki-cho).

I'm not here to defend or deny the need for those missions or content. What I'm far more worried about is how whitewashed and rushed the final product has become. There are large chunks of side story sub missions missing from the US release that were in the Japanese version. Missions that had absolutely nothing to do with the Hostess Bars or any illicit activity. Cutting Shogi and Mahjong? It's questionable why this was cut, but not Koi Koi or Oichi-ku.

I'm really disturbed that SEGA has set a trend in threatening the customer with regard to bringing the series stateside, but I want to contrast my concerns regarding the game with a very pertinent statement from Sega's own staffers.

Aaron Webber:

"It's not a question I can really answer for you, but I would encourage all fans of the series to show their support for Yakuza by picking up a copy [of Yakuza 3]. At the end of the day, numbers often speak loudest."

Speaking that the best way to see Yakuza 4 get localized in the US is to buy Yakuza 3 is an upsetting trend to someone who sees so much changed between the US and Japanese versions of the game.

SEGA, if you want to address this properly, tell the fans that when Yakuza 4 gets released stateside that it will not receive any cuts, that the gameplay, Nihongo-esque weirdness and all, will be fully intact.

As it is now, I have to rate the game with 4 stars because, it's identical to the Japanese version, but what's been cut is stuff that SEGA is deceiving it's customers into believing wasn't important to the original game.

When you release a game that's about life as a Japanese person, in Japan, cutting stuff that the western audience wouldn't understand is a ludicrous and silly decision to make at the expense of what is already a stellar title.

Buy Yakuza 3 Now

You're being surrounded by a bunch of yakuza punks in a small children's park. They were hassling a woman, trying to take her

back to their boss, until you and your buddy stepped in. Soon, you're fending off these five or six thugs with kicks, uppercuts

and curb stomps. All of a sudden, when it just comes down to you and one other punk, you spy a pair of pliers lying on the

ground; you don't know why they're there, but you don't give it a second thought and quickly snag them. In a heartbeat, you've

taken the last punk in a headlock and messily ripped one of his teeth from his mouth, throwing him to ground and watching him

roll around in pain. This isn't the latest blockbuster action flick; it's just one of the many crazy moments from the superb world of "Yakuza 3."

Story: A-

An ex-yakuza chairman, Kazuma Kiryu left behind his path of violence and destruction in order to open up an orphanage on the

island of Okinawa. After a brief period of peace, he's soon sucked back into the world of violence when a developer threatens

to run him and the orphans he cares for out of their home, in order to build a resort and military base so as to stimulate

Okinawa's waning economy. This sets off a series of events both serious and lighthearted in nature. Moments of violence

and gritty crime drama are interspersed with missions which involve taking care of your kids and finding food for a stray dog.

Unlike the plot of "Grand Theft Auto IV", which was a more or less monotoned look at the criminal underworld, "Yakuza 3" crafts

a truly complex and intricate web of a plot, laced with heart-pounding action sequences and more conspiracies than you can

shake a stick at.

Gameplay: A+

To some, this may seem like a run-the-mill button-mashing affair; you've got your square button for light attacks, triangle for

heavy attacks, and circle for grab. However, this is prevented from getting stale by the colorful assortment of moves Kazuma

has at his disposal, as well as the fact that a great deal of objects can be picked up and wielded with deadly proficiency.

Hammer a street punk down to the ground with a nearby bicycle, or smash a boss stage in the face with a leather sofa. How

much enjoyment the combat provides is directly tied to just how much you like wreaking untold levels of unrealistic violence.

Very light RPG elements are also involved, as you gather experience from beating up gang members and helping out citizens, which

can be applied towards health expansions and new fight moves.

As far as exploration is concerned, you guide Kazuma through the streets of Okinawa and Tokyo, searching for side-missions while

at the same time following the main plot of the game. A few of the locations you can visit include weapons shops, crowded market-

places and seedy bars. Wandering the crowded streets never gets dull, because much like the random battles of a traditional RPG,

there is always a threat of some lone punk stepping out of the shadows and challenging you to a fight. There are no load screens

between the battles and the exploration, which makes it all the more enjoyable. "Yakuza 3" has the right balance of action and

exploration, striking the right chord with both seasoned gamers and newbies alike.

Sound: A-

The game includes superb voice acting, which is all in Japanese, and a varied soundtrack which jumps from J-Pop, to orchestral

pieces, then all the way to classic Japanese enka music. Sound always fits the mood perfectly in this game, and that is a big

feat in and of itself.

Graphics: A

It's rare to find such an accurate depiction of Japan in a video game ("Persona 4" did a pretty decent job; however, it was a little

fantastical because of the overall tone of the game itself), but "Yakuza 3" nails it spot-on. Streets are packed to the brim with

people, tiny alleyways are all over the place, and real-world locations are rendered with the utmost accuracy. Also noteworthy is

the use of real Japanese products (Boss canned coffee, C.C. Lemon, and Young Magazine, to name a few), which add to the overall

authenticity of the game.

Character models are very well constructed, facial movements are convincing and never feel strained, and the aforementioned

locations you visit are truly immersing. The only complaint I can warrant are the deceptive cutscenes, which are gorgeous, but

then set you up for thinking the in-game graphics look THAT good, which they definitely do not. Not that the in-game graphics

are BAD, but they definitely aren't as beautiful as the cutscenes would lead you to believe.

IN THE END:

"Yakuza 3" stands as one of the exclusive titles that PS3 owners can flaunt proudly. Japanophiles will love it for it's accurate

portrayal of the country they love so much, and action junkies will love the variety of ways they can defeat their enemies (Hint:

handheld flamethrower + random goon's face= good times!). If you have PS3, then there's really no reason you shouldn't be playing

this game.

OVERALL GRADE: A+

Note: For those (like me) who didn't play the first two entries in this series, and fear that they will be alienated by the plot, don't

worry: from the main menu, you can access two extended cutscenes which explain the events leading up to "Yakuza 3." Plus, the story is

really easy to jump into, and after about five to ten hours of play, you have a good idea of who's who in the plot.

Read Best Reviews of Yakuza 3 Here

I saw this game in a local K-Mart (yes, they still exist), and decided to pick it up for ten bucks. If I knew then what I know now, I would have paid 60 for it. The fact is, Yakuza 3 is one of the gems of the system.

I don't know about the Japanese version, or the cuts that were made. I would assume that the dating mini-game is expanded considerably. If this is the case, it's one of the best things Sega could have done. Maybe Mahjongg was fun, though.

Anyway, this is a review of the AMERICAN version of Yakuza, dependent only on the content found there. And that content, despite the cuts, is vast, and it is mostly excellent. Of course you have the main game, which is a great combination of JRPG and Final Fight (not Grand Theft Auto, as many people have claimed). Let's start with the fighting: it is excellent. Arcade-style brawler action really hits the spot. The controls are mostly tight, the moves are simple enough to allow for progress into the game, and complex enough to keep the player from getting bored. Even after over 300 random encounters, I still find myself enjoying the action. The finishing moves are great, the counter-attacks are fantastic, and the HEAT system (which I won't explain here think of it as the special move system) is fantastic. I never get tired of seeing my character kick the crap out of enemies using special moves.

The bosses are generally difficult (at least on Hard difficulty), and require significantly better technique than the random encounter. Bosses fight differently, so don't expect that the same tactics will work all the time (although I find the dash-punch combo is pretty much unstoppable, as long as you're patient).

The JRPG aspect might put off some potential players, but I think it's great. It's equal parts hilariously cheesy and gripping. I won't spoil story, but you'll see what I mean. Dialogue can drag on, however, and because the game's language is Japanese, you are pretty much forced to sit and read subtitles continuously. I don't find it bad at all, but buyer beware if you don't like your games talky, you might want to look elsewhere.

On top of the main game are numerous minigames, and for the most part, they are a blast. I thoroughly enjoyed the pool and golf minigames, and the karaoke rhythm game is hilarious. A fishing minigame seems almost required in Japanese RPGs, and this one is actually pretty fun. There are also batting cage minigames, darts, an arcade, etc. These aren't quite as fun as the two I mentioned, but they are well above passable. All in all, they paid attention to the minigames, and it shows. Woven into many of these mingames are subplots. There is a long hitman mission that essentially has you fighting some extra bosses. This is OK, but I found it tiresome after 10 extra bosses or so. There are also random stories which can be engaged by talking to people on the street. These are a mixed bag. Most of them end up involving a standard random fight at the end, which is somewhat unexciting. There are a few exceptions (I enjoyed the movie subplot, e.g.), but all in all, the fun lies mostly in finding these missions, not playing them. There are other collectables in the game (e.g. there are 100 locker keys hidden across the two cities, and many of these are nigh impossible to find on your own), but this mostly wraps up the game description.

All in all, I love this game. So, why the star deduction? Well, there are certain elements that just don't cut it. There are numerous chase scenes in the game. I hate them (particularly at night time). Generally, they require you to memorize the terrain in order to catch the perpetrator, and this really lacks the heart-pounding excitement you would expect. In one particularly odious encounter, I was trying to avoid cops, but kept running the wrong path. It didn't really matter, as I could just retry the whole thing, so what's the point?

The camera often betrays you. There is no devoted "lock-on" within the game. Rather, you can take a fighting stance, which kind of targets your punches. The problem is that at times, the camera will just drift and you can't see your opponent. At times, the bosses can be cruel, and losing track of them can really hurt you. In the same vein, the computer just cheats sometimes. Occasionally, you will be forced to go through QTEs while fighting bosses. These themselves are fine, but the problem is that they govern cut scenes. Too often, the cut scene drags a bit, and when you regain full control of your character, the enemy has already launched into a combo. Cheap as hell, but what are you going to do?

The in-game map is a real problem It would have been nice to be able to place points on your map for particular hotspots. Instead, I find that I have to constantly return to the map in the pause menu. This map itself is not particularly user-friendly, mind you, but it's a real pain to constantly refer to this thing, and you'll be doing it a lot.

But all in all, you really can't go wrong with this one, particularly for the current sweet price. I would highly recommend it overall, and I hope that Persona 5 takes a cue from this for its in-town interactions.

I really did not know what to expect from this game, as I was not really familiar with the franchise. But, based on recommendations, I decided to take a chance. I am very glad I did. It is nearly impossible to categorize this game, so I will not even try. Before you begin play, you can watch videos that explain the events of the first two Yakuza games. So, if you did not already know, you play as a former crime boss who now wants nothing more than to retire and run an orphanage on the beach (just like all former crime bosses). But, of course, life does not work out that way and you are soon caught up in it once again. The game-play involves a lot of walking around various parts of Japan completing various objectives. The main story is very good, but what really makes this game stand out are the numerous side missions. Everything from tracking down treats for a stray dog, to mediating disputes at the orphanage, and, oh yeah, beating up on Yakuza thugs. Combat, of which there is a lot, is very much arcade style, and can start to feel old rather quickly. Fortunately, the game-play is more than varied enough. Side missions will keep you busy for some time, playing bit parts in movies, taking girls out on dates, going to hostess clubs, helping citizens find lost children, etc. In fact, there is almost too much to do in this game so that you have a difficult time deciding what to do next. When you are not doing missions, there is still plenty to keep you busy. Get a drink at the local bar, shop at the many convenience stores and pawn shops (most items serve to replenish health and you can also obtain weapons, etc.), sample the fare at the many restaurants (eating food replenishes your health), go to the batting cages, hang out at the betting parlor, go bowling, visit the video arcade, get a massage, play some pool or some darts, etc. etc. These alone are so much fun that you can easily play this game for an entire day and not even undertake a single mission. If you are looking for something that will keep you busy for days on end, and you are able to look past the odd mixture of cutesy Japanese style (e.g. buying ice cream for young orphan girls in an effort to increase their "affinity" meter) and the Yakuza underworld, then I definitely recommend that you give this game a try.

First off I bought this and never got it. So I went to GameXchange and bought two, one for the PS3 (Ken) and one for the 360 (Ryu) so I could play at home or at a friend's when I come over. I then bought a joystick that I am now accustomed to. When I bought the pads I liked them better then the traditional PS3 and 360 pads. The lessened the pain of using the d-pad, but didn't eliminate it all together.

The buttons are positioned nicely. The L1 is still a little hard for me to hit when I need it, but otherwise no problem there. As for problems with the controller, as many people talk about, I haven't noticed too many. Last time I played with the Ryu controller I noticed when I walked to my opponent I took more then just a step when I tapped forward. This only happened a few times though. With the Ken controller one button acted strange once. I turned the controller off and then back on and nothing went wrong after that. If this is a prelude to worse things to come I can't say. Since I have my joystick now I can't go back to these for fighting games. But if that's the worst that will happen with them then I guess I was lucky.

I was very excited about the Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang Pro-Guitar when it was first announced.

I received mine yesterday (11/29) and was eager to try it out of the box. Straight out of the box, I noted that the overall body was still plastic but its heft and build are quite solid. The guitar comes in 3 pieces and snap together quite easily. I plugged it in along with the USB dongle into the PS3...and the game crashed. Tried it again, same result. So, I thought that maybe I had too many USB dongles in at once so I tried just plugging in the Mustang dongle by itself. At that point, the game launched fine. So here are a couple of warnings up front for you:

1. This guitar is not like you other guitar controllers. It actually functions as an alternate PS3 controller, so be sure that you are actually synced up with the dongle.

2. This guitar is a little bit finicky straight off the bat. I would suggest that you sync this guitar up prior to syncing up with other instruments. I haven't found the right combination yet as to what WON'T make it crash, but plugging in 1 at a time appears to work so far.

So, with the unpleasantness out of the way, how does it play? Wonderfully!! All 6 strings are nylon coated steel (which disconcertingly sound like plastic, but they hold up) and all 102 buttons along the 17 frets respond accurately and with no visible delay. If you're a real guitar player, you'll marvel at the realistic response; however, you may complain (and justifiably) that the fret buttons are all the same width and you won't be able to tell which "string" is which. If you're hung up on this, wait until the Squier (which doubles as a real, fully-stringed guitar AND a controller) comes out in the Spring for a rumored value of $280 +/-. The only other complaint that purists may have is that the "notes" on the guitar highway are a combination of numbers placed over strings. No, they aren't notes they just tell you which fret/string you have to hit. If you're used to reading sheet music, you may not be familiar about the 16th fret on the 2nd string...you may know it only as a note and a place to put your finger without consciously thinking how many frets down it is. If you're looking for actual notes, you're out of luck there.

The video game tutorials on RB3 were also fairly helpful in getting a beginner guitar player up to speed, but don't expect these lessons alone to make you a bona fide guitar player on their own steam. Still, they WILL teach you about the numbering and string schematics and also instruct you which fingers are appropriate for which chords. It's not a bad primer.

Overall, it's a fun guitar and the gameplay is phenomenal. Why they can support over 102 different possible fret/string combinations and yet be unable to support drums/keyboard/guitar/bass/vocalists without entering you into All Instrument Mode (as I explain in my review of Rock Band 3) is quite beyond me. My only other complaint is that for a guitar which costs so much, it would have been nice if they had opted for something other than a plastic body; I do feel entitled to something better for that kind of cash. Beyond that, it does work as advertised.

When I got my MadCatz Fender Mustang Guitar Controller, I felt kind of sorry for it because for some reason someone felt it was necessary to put this message on the front of its packaging: "Not A Real Guitar". No, I guess not. A "real guitar" is like my Fender Strat which sat in the closet unplayed for 20 years due to a disheartening lack of real guitar playing talent. To me, that's a real guitar.

I've had my MFMGC for only a week now and I'm sure I've played it more than I played my Strat in 20 years. The disheartening lack of real guitar playing talent is not a problem on an instrument that is not a real guitar! With some computer help, playing this thing is a ton of actual fun and I actually feel like I'm gaining some real guitar playing talent as a bonus.

I'm not a great judge of whether a guitar-like object is big or small, so I'll provide some useful dimensions for you to decide for yourself.

Neck length (nut to 17th fret): 405mm

Width head (E to E centers at nut): 34mm

Width tail (E to E centers at 17th fret): 45mm

Width strings (E to E centers on strings): 47mm

Some things about playing this are a lot easier than a "real guitar" and some things are harder. Obviously I don't have wires slicing into my finger tips. However, I think that if you play with this thing for hours a day (which is easy to do), you'll go far in preparing your fingertips for real guitar strings. The button action is definitely not real strings, but it's not a terrible substitute if you're not fussy. The button action seems pretty capable of doing what needs to be done. I have had a button get stuck pressed in, but it's very rare and the RockBand feedback points it out right away. Tapping that button cures the problem.

I'm no expert but playing RockBand3 with this seems to foster good habits. The weird one is that you never look at the thing. Never. Harmonix made a fuss about how cool their fret fingering feedback is and that's true, however, they intentionally kept quiet about string feedback because, of course, there is none. I find myself resting the pick on a string just so I can know where it or its neighbor is when I need it. On a "real guitar" that would mute that string.

Some RockBand specific features are good, some not so good. For example, this device can automatically calibrate your audio and video latency for optimal game play. The menu in RockBand to use this feature was kind of confusing, but eventually it seemed to work. I do not like the overdrive feature being tied to the "Select" button. It would have been better had they put it on the down pad or maybe the X. Overdrive still works fine if you tip the neck up to some steep angle, but with complex playing that can be tricky if you're sitting down.

I've played this probably over 50 hours now and I'm still on the original 3 AA batteries. Could be worse for a wireless device. I should note that the battery compartment doesn't have a stupid retaining screw so you don't have to find a small screwdriver just to change the batteries like you did on other RockBand guitar controllers.

Now we come to the coolest part about this unreal guitar. I had thought that if I were going to design such a thing I wouldn't reinvent the wheel but instead I'd use a standard music instrument digital interface. And indeed, they did and they even put a standard MIDI output port on this. This feature makes the price suddenly pretty interesting just for a MIDI controller. After some fussing, I was finally able to hook the Mustang up to a MIDI to USB converter and get Ubuntu on my laptop to see the MIDI events. Then I used the awesome and free music editor Rosegarden to redirect the MIDI events back out to Fluidsynth, a free software synthesizer. This allowed me to play the guitar controller and have the sound come out my laptop. There's a bit of latency with such a setup, but it proves the controller is serious about standard MIDI output. It's not going to be the best guitar-like MIDI controller in the world, but for educational purposes and simple guitar track recording, I think it's great. One odd thing is that if you hit an open string, it tends not to ever decay depending on the patch. However, when you hit a fretted note, the note decays after you let up on the fret button. The way to cancel an open string note is to press a button on that string. It's workable. There's even a mode (press "Start") to send note events by pressing the fret buttons and ignoring strumming (think fretboard tapping). I also confirmed that the strings were velocity sensitive I don't think it's extremely fine, but there are at least two levels of intensity for hitting a string. I should also mention the mysterious headphone jack which disables the MIDI output. I don't know what it's for, but I didn't hear anything with headphones.

So there you have it. This is not a "real guitar". But it is a real musical instrument (technically a part of one) and a pretty fancy one at that. I'm having a great time with it and for me it's a better way to improve "real guitar" playing skills than playing a real guitar.

Unable to find a Logitech G27 racing wheel last night I ended up buying the pro guitar for RB3. So far I have found it just as hard as learning to play a real guitar except my fingers don't hurt from holding down strings. I think this guitar is a good aid in helping one learn to play because it keeps your interest longer than say a real guitar and book or lesson. However if you are expecting to pick this up and be a pro playing medium or even hard in a months time than you might not have much fun. It will take time patience and dedication. I'm sure it will be months before I get past easy, even if I find the time to practice\play everyday. On a real guitar I know about 5 chords barely. On the normal guitar controllers I was able to complete all songs in Guitar Hero 1-3 on hard with all stars (except for one song on GH 3) but anyway... Right now I'm having trouble playing songs with the PRO Guitar for RB3 that use two strings and 3 buttons. I certainly don't feel like a rockstar when I'm struggling with only 2 strings and 3 fret buttons. I find RB3 overly challenging using this guitar(games are fun right?), but at the same time I feel like I'm going to be able to apply what I am trying to do with the RB3 pro guitar to my real acoustic guitar. And after all it would be pretty awesome if I'm ever able to play Free Bird on Pro Medium. I mean much much cooler and rockstar-esque than using that 5 button regular guitar controller.

Please try this product before you buy, if you are a real guitar player, it at first, doesn't quite feel like a real guitar. Although, after about an hour of an adjustment period (and a pick is necessary), it starts feeling better and works quite well. I have also tried out the more expensive Squire Pro Guitar model, which has a much better feel, but is slightly less accurate than this one. If you don't already own an electric, the Squire one would be ideal, and if you have one, the Mustang Pro should be fine. The Pros on this guitar are the realistic strumming mechanism, close to the size and scale of a Mustang Guitar, wireless functionality and the amazing accuracy of hitting complex chords and strums. The only downside is getting used to the buttons vs real strings, but after the adjustment period, its not so frustrating.

I just got my guitar controller today,

I have been a semi pro guitar player for 35 years (meaning I have been paid to play, but never made a living at it) I have turned my nose up at the guitar hero and rock band franchises because of the unrealistic guitars but I have been having a great time with the pro drumset and had the mustang guitar on pre order for more than a month before it arrived.

Well it arrived in the mail today and I rushed to put it together and start playing.

I am pleasantly surprised that there doesn't seem to be any notable latency at all. The fret buttons don't feel very much like guitar strings, but they do not take long to get used to at all. This could be a big plus for those who do not play guitar regularly and are not prepared to deal with the pain of getting your fingers accustomed to guitar strings.

I don't like that RB3 docks points for hitting extra notes, but I can't imagine how they would score otherwise. I am not used to reading music or playing songs "note for note" I usually do a great deal of improvisation when playing actual guitar, so this game is teaching me discipline I have never had before. Over all its a great accessory and I am enjoying it quite a bit. My biggest disappointment is the lack of pro guitar tracks in the DLC.

This game is fun. It's not awful but it's not great either. I think kids would enjoy this game. I enjoyed that it has many of the characters from the show with strong performances from all the voice actors. I also liked that it captures the same humor that makes the tv show good family fun. My biggest disappointment was with the graphics which make a PS3 game look like something made for the wii. Far too often the camera view is too far from the action. This game would be so much better if you could be real close to the action. Another disappointment was that the game was too short. The game play is very similar to the Lego Star Wars game but with less content. If you're going to get the PS3 version I would recommend renting instead of buying or wait until the price drops below $30. Or get the PC version instead.

When I read the first review here I decided not to purchase the game even though my son (13 years old) had downloaded the demo and loved it. However, I did decide to rent it and my son loves it. When I asked him what he likes his reply was "everything." When pressed to give specific examples he replied that he likes that you can play as so many different characters, and that missions take place between Season 1 and 2 of the show so things are new. I know he likes the fact that in the game he can use his points to purchase "hats and masks" and change his character's look. This can get quite humorous when the original slender bodies are topped by some outrageous looking hats, helmets and masks. It does make it easy to spot your character though!

He's been playing this for the last three days so I know he likes it. How does this game compare to other Star War games he has played? He played "The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels" for about 20 minutes before he announced to me that I could return it to the rental store. Thank goodness I didn't buy that. He really likes the "Lego Star Wars" games and he played them a lot when we first bought them a couple years ago--but at 13 he has kinda outgrown those versions and finds "Clone Wars: Republic Heroes" better. This game is more advanced that Lego Star Wars.

I also read a review that was criticial of the small size of the characters, but for us this hasn't been an issue. He's been playing this on a 40-inch LCD screen, so perhaps at half the size this could become an issue.

Bottom line: This is a fun game with an interesting story line and good graphics.

Look, folks....here's the deal. I bought this game because my son (3) likes to both play and watch me play the PS3 and Wii. I bought this for the PS3 and we play it co-op.

If you're anywhere close to being an adult (or teenager...or maybe even 10), then this game will likely be way too easy and boring for you. There are tons of checkpoints on each level, and if you die, you just respawn at the checkpoint (seriously...you can't go 10 seconds without going over the next checkpoint).

You play most of the levels as Jedi, but there are a number of Clone Trooper levels, too (which I think are more fun). Each level is fairly short, so it's like bite sized Star Wars. My son has no trouble playing on the normal levels, but he wouldn't be able to pass the boss levels on his own. I had to coach him through some of the controls, but he can blast and slice his way through droids with no problem.

Without rehashing what other reviewers have said, just know what you're buying. I'm giving this game 4 stars because FOR WHAT I BOUGHT IT FOR (playing co-op with my 3 year old), it's a great game. No consequences if you die, easy and it's Star Wars. If you're looking for some in-depth, engaging experience, look elsewhere.

My son and I love being on the same side in this game. This is just the right level of difficulty for a family game. I also should mention that the Prima strategy guide has alleviated frustration once or twice.

Want Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes Discount?

Well the demo was shockingly bad.

The reviews are giving the full game between 3/10 to 5/10.

The good

-It Star Wars

-They have the voice Actors

-The sound is good.

The amazing bad

-Awful Controls

-Shoot with the R stick? Really? Its like Smash TV in the 80's.

-It looks like a ps1 game played on the ps2 while looking through your own tears.

-Jedi can't die, they come back to life faster then Optimus Prime.

-Take over droids by stabbing them? Had that even worked on anything?

Do you want even the smallest chance that your kids will stab something to control it.

-Yoda tells you how to do everything, and I mean everything, short of up is up and down isn't up.

The Rant

Where is Battlefront 3 ?

Where is Rogue Squadron X ?

Where is the originality ?

Why can't any star wars game by good? Why? Whats so difficult?

A starwars fps, flight sim or RPG that you don't have to play online is badly needed.

Verdict

2/10 for creating a crappy game and disapointing us all, again.

I was expecting a faceplate but turns out it was a decal, oh well, no biggie, it's really high quality and it's so easy to stick, it doesn't bubble at all and if you mess up you can peel it off and start over again.

Anyway's they should advertise more clearly that it is in fact a decal.

first off, the thing really works, and it works pretty well for being so cheap. the entire body is a clear PSP ripoff right down to the top corners looking like fake shoulder buttons.

I'll skip the praise otherwise though as most have it covered and get to the point.

THE BUILD OF THIS IS EXTREMELY CHEAP AND NEEDS A VERY IMPORTANT INTERNAL REINFORCEMENT OTHERWISE IT WILL BREAK!

When i bought my first one it died within 3 days of use, i opened it up and took a good look around, noticing something VERY wrong right away!

the cartridge slot's connection sits right on top of 4 very tiny and very weak circuits, after repeated use the cart connector will come loose and snap these circuits right off the board once a cartridge is inserted hard.

i returned the broken unit and got a replacement, took it home and heres what i did to prevent this from happening again.

opening the unit and used a hot glue gun to glue the connection and the little guard/rail piece thats just half acedly stuck around it right down to the board and in place, then i added a layer around the cartridge connector itself to reinforce its place and hopefully prevent the easy break that happened the first time around.

this not only seems to have made it stronger in place, but it also fixed the death grip it had on my cartridges as well as made them insert a lot easier.

so far no downsides to be seen and i've had it over a week with constant use and in/out cartridge swapping for stress testing.

IMPORTANT EDIT: My Genmobile broke a day after I got it. Cheap thing wouldn't power on. I Got my refund but from now on I'm not going to waste money on it. I'd recommend the Gopher or the Retrogen. Looks like Retrogen wins! But I stll stand behind the things I said about the Genmobile in this review.

OLD REVIEW: I was hearing a lot of debate over the internet about this device. I had a RetroGen that I bought almost a year prior and it's been working pretty good. The only drawbacks of it were the fact that some games didn't work and also the screen was kinda weird. Blacks were green, yellows were green-ish.

So how is the Genmobile?

Well it is a hell of a lot better than the Retrogen for various reasons. First of all the game system comes with twenty built-in Sega Genesis games. Some of them are good, but other than the fact that I utterly fail at Golden Axe, they're fun. Most of them I don't giv a crap about, like Shadow Dancer. And Columns 3. Overall they work great, no graphical errors or any color discolorations. The audio is somewhat messed up, but in the sense that the music is out of pitch, but you can turn the speaker up as loud as you want (and believe me you, it goes VERY loud). Games like Streets of Rage 2 and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 sound fine despite the pitch oddities, and as you know those games have awesome music.

One thing that bugs me is the screen to the Genmobile is actually SMALLER both in physical resolution and the size. Text games are difficult to read, and when I tried Phantasy Star this was a big problem. On that note, Phantasy Star IV boots up but you can't play a saved game. You have to play it from the beginning, and that is a huge drawback of this system AND the RetroGen.

Also, just like the RetroGen, this thing connects to the TV with the included AV cable. But this one's AV cable has a much smaller input jack so you can't use any of th ones you got laying around. What the heck were they thinking? Well at any rate, this one puts out a somewhat clearer picture than the Retrogen does.

Now, I'll talk about compatibility. For this system, I was having (and still do) a bit of trouble when I inserted the cartridge inside the system. When the system detects a game it skips the 20 games menu and boots up the game. But in some cases, the games are so hard to insert that when you put one in the game doesn't detect it and boots up the 20 games menu.

So is it better than the Retrogen? It's just a nicer version of it with built-in games. REAL games as opposed to the 13 crap games on the Retrogen. As long as it plays Sega Genesis games I guess that's all that matters. It's got a better D-pad, but the screen's resolution is dwarfed. Just like the Retro Mini-X, the sprites are all smushed a bit.

Another thing I noticed was that Mortal Kombat 3 on the Retrogen didn't let you use special moves or fatalities unless it was hooked up to a TV. The Genmobile had no such problems, but some games like I said just didn't detect the first time I put them in. The system, despite its flaws, is in my opinion, dominant over the Retrogen, but just barely. If you're going to get one, get it for the D-pad or the 20 games. Either way, you got Sega Genesis on the go.

I bought two of these things last year. And guess what? Both of them broke! The second one I bought was a replacement for the first one! True, it does have several built in games, but they break easily if you push an external cartridge in too hard, AND not all games work on it anyway! And also the sound emulation is way off. Music is played in the wrong key. Save your money! It's not worth it! This thing is a piece of junk!

Other reviews have covered a lot of ground reviewing this excellent game.

I would like to add one point:

As a casual gamer, I often get frustrated with games as I don't have the time to learn dozens of controls, nor have the dexterity I once did. Plus, too often games get frustrating and I get stuck or bored by being forced to re-do too much when I fail at a mission.

This game is excellent in the sense that it is just hard enough. Yes, I played it on Easy mode, and I amazed more games don't have this. Gives hints, just hard enough, and when I have to re-do something, 90% it doesn't go back too far where I get bored and frustrated.

This was one of the most fun games I have played in a long time. (And I finished it too, which is pure joy.)

I hope other publishers follow this trend. People in their 30's often have the money to drop 50-60 bucks on a game, but too often we are ignored by publishers by making the games too hard.

Nathan Drake is not typical of characters you see in videogames much lately. Nate doesn't look like he pumps iron, he won't win any sexiest man alive awards, and his unassuming ways make him enjoyable. Of course you may recognize the name Drake for the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. Yes Nate is related to the famous explorer and now he is off to find the mysterious El Dorado(City of Gold). To say the least the journey will be unforgettable to most.

The story starts off more like a movie. On this quest you are accompanied by an attractive documentarian Elena and of course your comrade Sullie. What sets Uncharted apart from some many games is the cinematic approach is so seemless it makes it hard to seperate gameplay from movie watching. As your journey progresses you begin to realize you have many enemies. It seems Sullie doesn't live the cleanest life and borrowing money from a bad guy doesn't help. So now the bad guys are out to collect the debt by finding El Dorado. Although it becomes apparent that El Dorado is not a city of gold but a man of gold.

Without getting too much into the story it will definately leave you filling your aderaline need. The gameplay is incredible in this game. The enemy A.I. starts off slow and quickly progresses as you get further into this game. Enemies will actually out manuever you. If you don't plan out your attacks well you will find yourself dead. Although the battles are not the only thing you face in this game there are a number of puzzles that are not overlly difficult. What I do enjoy about this game is that it has a hint option. You can use it to help you in confusing spots. Although if you are more hardcore you will probably leave this option off. There are four difficulty levels and the toughest option is locked until you beat the game on hard. What is a first for a PS3 game is the reward system that is being used. There are 60 treasures that can be found througout your journey. On top of that there are objectives that you can try to complete. Some are simple like killing a certain amount of enemies with one of your weapons and others are more complex like getting a certain amount of stealth kills.

The visuals in this game are stunning and some of the best I have ever seen. What is good to watch is the incredible amount of detail put into everything. The jungle environments are lush and beautiful and the water effects are some of the best ever. Sometimes it is enjoyable just to stand and enjoy the beauty of the environment. Tree branches sway, clouds move, and leaves fly all over the place. This is as close to reality as I have seen.

If you own a PS3 this game is a must buy. To say the least it is one of the best games available on any console. The storyline is enjoyable and reminiscent of many great adventure movies. Uncharted sets a new bar on next gen games and hopefully others will follow with this excellent quality. If you like action and adventure and don't mind being the star of a playable movie then Uncharted should be on your list.

Uncharted is the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. The game-play is flawlessly implemented. There is an excellent balance between fun platforming and third person shooting with the best cover system I've seen in a game. In my opinion the cover system in Uncharted works better than Gears of War.

Visually this is the best looking console game ever made. Hands down, no question. As someone who enjoys immersion in games, I've never had a better experience with a video game.

Have you ever wanted to play a GOOD Indiana Jones game? Well, this is that game. The world, style, and humor is straight out of Indiana Jones. So you have a game set in a world that is much like Indiana Jones, and it just happens to have some of the best game play I've experienced in any game on any console. If you own a PS3, you simply must buy this game. If you don't, I feel sorry for you. If you don't own a PS3, you should buy one to play this game, and pick up Ratchet and Clank while you're at it. You will not be disappointed.

I wasn't buying into the hype for this game as I was focusing on Assassins Creed... Two days later I went to return the unplayable-glitchy-pile-of-digital-crap that was Assassins Creed and needed something to get the bad taste out, so I bought this figuring there's nothing better right now.

This game is absolute blast. I won't go into details you can read them everywhere else. I'll just say that graphics are beautiful, story is engaging in an Indiana Jones type way, but the BEST PART: the enemies are SMART (I'm playing this on normal difficulty)! Yeah, I couldn't believe it either. Combat also requires thinking on your part you will not be picking up 200 rounds of ammo of each dead enemy, so you actually have to think before you shoot. The cover system is also great. You can't just duck behind a stone, as the enemy will flank you immediately. You have to keep moving and constantly be aware of where your enemies are. Long story short you can not advance in the game by just running down the middle in spraying hundreds of rounds of ammo you will have to develop tactics.

To keep the game from being repetitive, there's a very big platform and puzzle element (although puzzles have been kind of easy so far). But all of this works really well.

In short, I would recommend this over any PS3 title that's out there right now.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is one of the most complete, immersive, and outright FUN games I have ever played. It is a remarkably fluid game, that transitions seamlessly from pulse-pounding action to epic exploration, all tied together in a fantastic cinematic style. The game is relentlessly entertaining and delivers the goods on EVERY level, with some fantastic twists leading up to a truly satisfying finale. It was with some regret that I watched the ending credits roll, but now I get to go through the game again! (It took roughly 12 hrs to complete on the "Hard" difficulty -finishing on Hard unlocks the "Crushing" difficulty).

Gameplay is where Uncharted really shines. Since you are constantly doing and seeing new things (there are some truly dazzling set-pieces), there is never a "grinding" feeling to the game that too many action games seem to have these days. What surprised me most is the fact that not only does Uncharted succeed as an adventure game (you will visit all sorts of exotic locales and climb cliffs, scale walls, etc.), but is also a great action game in its own right with a well-designed and balanced combat system. The game features both gun-play as well as viscerally thrilling melee combat. Unlike the Tomb Raider series, the gun play requires some skill (there is only 'limited' auto-aim) and has a lot of depth. The different weapons are fun to use, and you are forced to make some tactical choices due to the fact that you can only carry around two weapons (plus grenades) at a time. The enemy AI is pretty intelligent and will sit back or aggressively charge/flank you depending on your own posturing.

The story line is well written and neatly ties the whole package together. Let's be clear -the story is not the Next Great American Novel. What it IS is the best of adventure pulp fiction, rolled together with some faux historical intrigue a la the Da Vinci Code. Most importantly, all the characters in the game are likable and deliver some good laughs in the process. Note: the game is rated "Teen" and deservedly so without any spoilers, there is some content that would likely be pretty disturbing for younger children.

The graphics and audio are top-notch and well-polished, which adds greatly to the immersive feeling of the game. The whole world feels alive trees sway in the wind, fish swim in the ponds, ambient noises are well balanced by heroic in-game contextual music. Close attention has been paid to details: Nathan Drake (the character you play) will grit his teeth and mutter under his breath when bullets go whizzing by him, if he is too close to a concussive blast you will hear the ringing in his ears as the other sounds fade out. The level designs in Uncharted are also amazing. While the game play is linear (story-driven), the world still feels expansive and the architecture of the various ruins, castles, etc. are beautiful and allow for plenty of exploration (you can find treasures hidden throughout the game that allow you unlock various extras in the game).

The unlockable extras and the built-in rewards system make the game well-worth replaying as well. In summary, this is a terrific game that shouldn't be missed. I can't wait for Uncharted 2!
